AEW doesn't understand the difference between go-away heat -- also known as "X-Pac heat" -- and heat. The fans don't want to see Jericho to get beat up.
AEW fans want Jericho off TV. But AEW interprets Jericho's go-away heat as "heel heat" and thinks Jericho deserves even more TV Time.
That's why we're seeing the Young Bucks so much on TV. AEW interprets the Young Bucks go-away heat as heel heat, so they book the Young Bucks like the top heels in the company.
The Bucks have fans, but they aren't nearly the top heels in AEW.

CW: Language - Jericho does use some cuss words in his promo and also the fans like to cuss Jericho out, I don't use any bad language in discussing Jericho.
Tony really needs to get Chris Jericho off television. The fans hate the guy, Jericho has the worst go-away heat that I've ever seen in wrestling. He makes X-Pac look like Stone Cold when it comes to crowd reaction.
When you get "Please retire" and "Shut up" chants for an entire 7-minute promo, the fans are screaming for you to go away for a while. Please, Tony, send Jericho to New Japan.
I can't be the only one really upset to see Jericho once again dragging a potential star down into the muck with him. Keith is a good promo and has a great look, the guy could be huge in AEW, but right now he's doing comedy with Chris Jericho and that's not going to get Keith over.
The "Thanks, guys" catchphrase is some of the worst "smart" IWC promos that I've seen in wrestling. It started as a phrase used by detractors to mock Tony Khan, but went "viral" when Jim Cornette's co-host used it to mock Tony Khan on twitter. It's like when Hulk Hogan lit a wrestling observer newsletter on fire in WCW in 1995 bad. The few AEW fans who get that reference probably will want to turn off the TV as most AEW fans despise Cornette.
This is embarrassing, even for a Jericho segment.
Does Jericho think year-old IWC twitter beef will attract fans to AEW?
You can't really justify the way Jericho has booked himself in AEW. First booking himself over one of the hottest AEW talents Hook and now burying (another) hot new AEW signing Bryan Keith by association? Jericho's segments aren't even good TV, this is awful!
Tony needs to put Chris Jericho in his place -- preferably, on a plane to Tokyo with a Bullet Club T-Shirt. The fans will appreciate Tony for it.

I don't know, I don't get the gimmick to be very honest and AEW have never done anything to explain it. I have been confused every time he appears. He was just some mascot for Orange Cassidy who wore face paint, he wrestled once, it kind of sucked and that's really been the sum of his time in this company.
It's obviously some dumb funny thing from the indies that AEW assumed all their viewers would be familiar with. For those of us who are not, he's just a total goofball and a stupid novelty act. I'm pretty sure he's just waiting for his contract to expire now.
I like Danhausen. He does some really enjoyable work in the midcard as AEW's resident comedy guy.
I think every promotion benefits from a comedy guy like Disco Inferno or a Shark Boy -- as long as they aren't pushed as a main event talent.
Tony's done a pretty good job limiting Danhausen to the right spots on the show. He's been kept away from the main event picture pretty reliably and been used sporadically to keep from getting stale.
Now, if Tony did decide to push Danhausen like Orange Cassidy and have Danhausen win every week, I'd get tired of Danhausen real quick.

The Darby Allin with a flamethrower angle didn't work for me on a number of levels.
I get why Tony did it -- the goal was for the clip to go viral and get eyes on the promotion. But for me, it's more trying to pop a rating by costing long-term storylines.
In kayfabe, what's stopping a wrestler from just bringing a weapon into the building? At least it makes sense for a wrestler to open carry a gun -- how many people own flamethrowers?
If security can't stop wrestlers from bringing in flamethrowers, how in kayfabe can they prevent a wrestler from bringing in a pistol? A flamethrower is way less easy to conceal -- not like Darby tried.
Security clearly can't stop someone from just driving up to the arena and walking in. Darby was able to waltz right past security despite being explicitly banned from the building.
If the Elite can't even hinder Darby Allin from entering the building, why can't the referees or other staff defy them to run in and save Danielson? Clearly, the Elite aren't actually running the show.
Tony Khan just isn't ready for TV, and the last thing I want to see on AEW TV is more Tony Khan as a major character. If nothing else, Tony Khan orchestrating the run-in keeps Darby from getting over.
I'm looking forward to Double or Nothing.
Dynamite ended on a sour note this week.

Ricky Starks recently did an interview discussing his lack of bookings on AEW Television. Rumors persist that Ricky's contract is expiring soon, which he didn't confirm or deny.
If Ricky is one foot out the door (as many speculate given his connection to Cody), I understand Tony Khan cooling Starks off.
Tony obviously doesn't want to waste TV Time on talent that might be headed to WWE soon (like Jade Cargill headed to WWE and became a top WWE Talent).That being said, Ricky Starks is electric and I miss seeing the guy on TV.

Kenny got a huge pop here -- Canada definitely loves him. Hope when he comes back AEW runs some big Canadian shows with Kenny on top.
Jack Perry is the wrong guy to put in that main event slot. He doesn't have the size or skills for this sort of spotlight -- even worse, AEW seems intent on pushing Jack as a physical threat, something Perry definitely isn't.
Really think Jack should've never left the Jungle Boy persona behind -- it was a good fit for him and really hid Perry's limitations.
Perry also should really consider hitting the gym and putting on some muscle to enhance his heel persona. He's scrawny and even a thick jean jacket can't hide that well.
Okada's probably the strongest member both on the mic and in the ring in The Elite. Hope we see more of him and less of The Bucks & Perry.
An AEW Omega-Okada match would really get everyone invested even this late in their careers.

AEW is running against a bigger, more established promotion. They had to bring in older guys to draw a rating.
Because of age or other reasons, a lot of AEW guys are injury prone.
Bryan Danielson is on the wrong side of 40 has spent a bunch of time on the shelf -- to the point where he's retiring largely due to injuries. He probably shouldn't be wrestling a bunkhouse match on Collision.
Will Ospreay (relatively) recently considered retiring at 30 due to extensive injuries. He shouldn't be going 15 minutes against midcarders on free TV.
Kenny Omega and Adam Cole also have spent a lot of time on the shelf. When they come back, AEW should definitely book them better.
Chris Jericho is 53 and has to be considering retirement soon.
Eddie Kingston is 42 and has spent a significant part of his career working death matches. Samoa Joe is 44 and has been wrestling for 20 years at a high level.
There's a better way for AEW to do things.

AEW really should've stepped in to prevent Jericho from working with Hook.
Jericho is clearly toxic right now, and needs to go away -- not drain momentum from one of the company's biggest stars.
If they're going to make a match between the two, have it be a one-off where Hook beats Jericho cleanly in six minutes and move on.
(Hopefully, it was Jericho's idea to work with Hook, and not AEW's. AEW setting that up would not reflect well on the company)

Like Angle said, Hendry's musical talent really sets him apart -- he could do the same musician gimmick as Elias or Max Caster but better. And unlike them, Hendry starts with a high-level amateur background.
I'm shocked that Hendry isn't a major player in AEW or WWE -- he's like Dalton Castle in that way, I don't know why someone hasn't pushed him given his pedigree and talent.

Hendry would be perfect for AEW (or WWE). He has an old-school style and has previous work on the UK scene -- which would come in handy for AEW when they run the UK next.
For now, Impact have to be happy to have him.
He's super believable and pretty stiff -- probably from his world-class amateur background.
He'd have a great match with someone like Danielson or Kingston.
Plus, Hendry looks great and has a ton of charisma. And on top of that, Hendry's a talented musician -- at one point, Hendry almost got signed by Sony.
When you get the Kurt Angle co-sign, you're good. Hendry is good.

Overall, I think the company would do better building storylines and characters slowly even it means a ratings drop in the short-term.
(Obviously, AEW isn't nearly as bad as Russo's WCW. But they do sometimes book with some of the same logic -- hence why WCW 2000 was trending on social media during AEW Dynamite)

Love Julia Hart's character work here. She's become the top star in the Women's division -- she's absolutely someone who could headline a PPV one day for AEW.
The production here was great as well.

I don't hate the concept here, I do think the execution here was flawed.
The angle wasn't very good and the footage itself was underwhelming. There was also no sound on the footage at all.
Matt and Nick dragged the promo out far too long. The Bucks could've easily summed up in one minute what took them four.
I think Matt and Nick were trying to compensate for the mediocre fight footage. I don't think them dragging the angle out worked.
I also think Matt and Nick could've taken a more serious approach to the angle. I think playing the EVP characters this way came off as "cheap heat".

If they air some dumb thing like The Young Bucks talking to Jack in a locker room, that's stupid because all the sheeties and journos have said this is the actual footage of the incident so then they're just doing a lame bait and switch to create a cheap promotional opportunity.
I am trying to reserve judgment until I see the angle but right now I just think this is a lose-lose situation for AEW and it all seems really stupid to me.
Wrestling media often criticizes AEW too much. Bischoff and Cornette are very entertaining, but they're also wrong a lot.
AEW (probably) made mistakes here.

Couldn't Tony get anyone else other than the heel authority figures to discuss this footage? I think either way (at least) some fans will assume this is an angle.
If nothing else, AEW shouldn't have the young bucks in their heel authority figure gimmick outfits for the promotional material.
Wasn't Danielson on the disciplinary committee? Why not have him present the footage?
(I hope this isn't an on-screen angle).

Man, Anthony Bowens can really work a crowd like few others in wrestling right now. When he's on, his promos are a joy to watch.
I love The Acclaimed, but I think the money for AEW will be with Bowens as a singles star. He's just on another level than Max.

His crowd reactions were always really good, even if the content wasn't always there.
Fans really lapped up that Jay White promo even though admittedly the content didn't land. That Tofu chant was over for a bit. When you take away a major star, it hurts crowd reaction, which in turn will make it harder to keep viewers.
Plus, he was at the center of the biggest storyline in the company (Adam Cole vs. MJF) and fighting with both the biggest heel factions (Undisputed Kingdom and Bullet Club Gold). If nothing else, AEW would be hurt essentially having to put those two storylines on ice until MJF heals.
They're definitely missing Max.

Given that the main event was A) an AEW woman's division match and b) both women were in the midcard and 3) it was a face vs. face match, the main event drew better than expected.
AEW has started to book the women better and we're starting to see results.
AEW will lose ratings when MJF is off TV. You'd expect to see a drop-off without MJF -- AEW has done good to keep most their audience intact.
(Also, AEW's 800,000 for big business doesn't include the overrun. With that included, the number probably would've been a smidge higher)

AEW has done well to keep ratings relatively consistent with MJF off TV.
I have to think Riho vs. Nightengale drew viewers (relatively) well. Toni Storm and Julia Hart probably are the most over in the women's division right now, and neither were involved in that match.
AEW deserves major credit for keeping business stable without their biggest star.

For me, the bigger deal was Hook taking his first clean loss by submission with little or no build on free TV. Hook deserved better than to have his momentum squandered like that to get a 40-something transitional champion over. If you're going to have Hook get a surprise title shot like that, at least have him win. I hope this sudden change in plans for Hook doesn't mean Hook is hurt -- that's why AEW similarly changed MJFs plan. The fans love Hook and his intensity is a genuine highlight. I wish they would build up his MMA credibility more -- maybe enroll the guy in Judo if he doesn't have a Black Belt in something.

I initially dismissed this, as I thought all of my lightweights were young, inexperienced, unpopular babyfaces, but... Jake Sloan can talk, Condor has popularity, Black Sheep's pretty wacky. That's the first thing I'm realizing I want something that can exist away from the DeColts. For now,, at least.
The championship structure is something that has always bothered me about CGC. I do not like midcard-belts-for-midcarders, without rules to explain why only a certain portion of the roster want it. Dislike the WWF Intercontinental Title. Dislike the CGC Canadian Title. And the CGC Television Title feels like another one of those. In my head canon, it came about to solve the very problem I'm trying to fix. Here's a belt you can put on TV a lot, so the big belts only need to be defended every 4-6 weeks. But it doesn't give me a whole lot creatively. Maybe some of the ideas here can make that one more interesting, as opposed to being a whole new belt.
Stipulations are interesting, as I'm not a natural stipulations guy either. I have to push myself to remember to add things like that. A belt with those rules could be fun.
How about a CGC Cascadia Title with the intention to put the focus on American talent? It would have more flavor than a classic "American" title or "intercontinental" title -- and you could use the Doug Flag to create a really fresh belt and/or graphics for the title and/or title division. Any belt with a green strap and/or green plates would immediately stand out.
Down the road, you could even add a division or secondary TV show around the Cascadian belt to appeal to a more American audience -- when the company gets big enough to justify it.

Wrestlers getting over because fans like to sing their music very much is an AEW thing.
I would pull the trigger on Hook winning.
Yes, Hook is green as grass, but so was Bill Goldberg in WCW.
And Samoa Joe is the perfect guy to drag a great and memorable match from Hook.
Joe is a great wrestler, but AEW hasn't presented him or protected him like Hook.
On the wrong side of 40, he doesn't have the upside Hook has either.
Either way, this should be a fun match.

To be fair, Jack seems to be talented at getting good talent to face off with him.
He better be doing the job for Umino, Shota is a top young talent in NJPW.
I don't even want Jack Perry to come back and let Hook get his win back. It would bring Hook down.
Just let people forget that Perry was ever considered a threat to Hook.
