1. I wanted to gauge the interest in a fairly bizarre concept. As some of you may know, I've been running my own indy promotion in real life for about nine months now. Pro Wrestling Takeover debuted with our first event in September and we've not looked back since. I've been considering running our events in TEW and keeping a journal of things that way; comparing the grades the game engine gives each segment or match with what I actually saw/see with my own eyes. That plus the undeniable fun that is the backstage drama, the glimpses into who these people really are behind their public personas is quite fascinating.

It struck me when I realized last night that I write our show scripts the exact same way that I used to write TEW diaries.

Felt like reaching out to see if there might be an audience for something like that, or whether it was too far away from the center. LOL.

  2.
Wanted to weigh in with a concept I'm trying out, using TCW as my initial try out the new '16 C-Verse company.

Given that USPW is a juggernaut in waiting, that SWF still has the biggest name, and that Tommy Cornell is taking up residence on the other side of the globe, something drastic needs to be done to keep TCW on the level, let alone having any thoughts about nudging USPW out of the top spot.

    Enter the COTT.

I don't know why the fit didn't occur to me before, when I was dredging around, trying to come up with diary concepts. TCW's product fits in with the bulk of what the indy companies are trying to do. Why not make TCW the flagship company of the COTT? TCW has TV and PPV coverage across the board where the small territories do not, by utilizing the talent trade option, TCW's roster is a lot more full than it is without the affiliation.

I moved TCW's base of operations from California up the coast to Seattle, so as not to ruffle the feathers of CZCW, and I keep my shows to the other areas not occupied by the other members of the alliance. The spillover and TV/PPV keeps me going there in lieu of shows.

I kept Total Wrestling, but dropped it to an hour long show, to keep the focus on the top guys in TCW. The Tuesday Night Wars are dead. I use the TCW Saturday Night Showcase as the COTT Weekly Showcase, where I book matches from all over the alliance while still keeping TCW a partial focus.

Going well so far, seven months deep I've pushed past SWF and am still growing. I get to try out all of the indy darlings. There's no way USPW can snatch them all up. Fun idea, fun game save.

  4.
Not sure if this as an alt request or not; if so, would someone fancy putting one of the updated Krusher Karloff heads on King Kong Kennedy's body? I want to use it as an alt for Marat.

  5. I don't like the idea of a "Rookie" DOTM.

To me, the primary reason we have DOTM is to drive competition between writers. I know it was perhaps started to bring the community together but on another level, I think it motivates all of us to write better in order to try and beat those diaries written by the great writers that always seem to win. Same reason I don't like the idea of the C-Verse divide. I plan to run a C-Verse diary in the future and I want them to be put up against every other diary on the board, not just the other C-Verse ones. I want to be better than the best, not better than the best of the small group of people that write a mod I am also writing (see how ridiculous that sounds?).

No, we don't need a sub-award for the new writers. Instead, they should be competing against the best diaries on the board in order for them to read the best diaries and get better at writing. They need to be taking bits and pieces from diaries they like and applying them to their own work. They need to be commenting and predicting - interacting with the other writers on the board in order for them to make friends and build a following of their own. A sub-award doesn't help a lesser writer, it only pigeonholes them into the lower echelon of a hierarchy that shouldn't exist in the first place.

    Agreed. Down to the letter.

  6. I fooled around with the T-Verse Platinum release when it came out and was impressed by the scope of it and the attention to detail that was obviously spent by the creators.

But for the last few weeks, I've been obsessed with a savegame other than my C-Verse diary one for the first time in....well, recent memory anyway. I'm rolling with AWF and am fairly certain that I am having the most fun with TEW I've had since it came out, '13 or any incarnation for that matter.

Everything is just so perfect and so damned fresh that it's recaptured my inner fanboy.

So, I guess what I'm saying is thank you to the folks that put this all together for the effort and the unholy amount of time a project like this must have taken. Kudos to you all. For real. It really has enriched my gaming experience.

    :)

    Best,

    NN

  7. Replies are a good way of seeing what part of your diary is successful, rather than whether the whole thing is working. If people mention certain characters, you can feature that character more. If you get more replies after one episode than usual, you know it had something worth talking about. As mentioned, replies aren't the be all and end all. And if you want them, you gotta do things to court them.

This pretty much hits the nail on the head. The occasional "hey, I'm still reading" post is great to let you know that someone is following along, but without any discussion of the diary, it can feel like you are writing in a vacuum sometimes.

I know personally, I have always appreciated the folks that offer predictions with some small notes underneath that explain why they picked like they did. And I've always been fond of Self's assertion in his diary that folks pick who they'd like to see win, not necessarily who they think will win.

That said, (sorry to ramble) I think more the more replies a diary has, the more views it is likely to get, just based on its position on the board. Nothing draws a crowd like a crowd, right?

  8. Vince was the underdog to that story. Now, the 80's was a different story.

Can't say I agree with that. WWF was the only national promotion in the country and even at the outset of Turner's buying in, WCW was a distant second.

Sticking to the metaphor I started with, you can't be David when you were already Goliath. WCW rose to the the same heights as WWF and then started beating them at their own game. That's the infuriating part; they never acknowledge that WCW was beating them at their own game, that they were put on the ropes when WCW used the same tactics as WWF did when closing down all of the regionals.

I mean, it makes for a better story. Who doesn't love an underdog? But living through it, watching it play out as a fan, week-to-week, it's not what they are portraying it to be.

  9. Just wanted to check and see if anyone else was getting tired of watching the Monday Night Wars series on the WWE network?

When they started, I ate them up and really enjoyed them, as it was my favorite period in wrestling. But as they continue, the revisionist history is almost too much to bear. They actually tend to paint Vince McMahon as some sort of plucky underdog David taking on Ted Turner's Goliath.

I understand that history is written by the victors, but they are getting ridiculous. I find myself wondering how WCW would have made the same series if they had won and launched their own network.

    Thoughts?

  10. The development of the newly minted DOA is getting much closer to going live on the boards. With this in mind, I wanted to post my thoughts/newfound perspective for the company (just in case anyone wants to know what the 'new DOA' will look/feel like). For others who didn't see the original DOA concept, this will be a great way to step in from the ground floor, so to speak.

One of the reasons my SWF project was so much fun to write for was because of the depth of the company and it's characters/wrestlers. In the past, that's where other promotions of mine have fallen flat (no long term goals/plans for well-developed characters). Also, SWF had a grandiosity to it (actually booking people like Jack Bruce); so, I knew that I needed a dose of that in which to make this version 'pop'.

In this re-imagined version, the DOA has a lot more depth from top-to-bottom. I've kept a dose of modern ('medium' versus 'heavy' and 'key' in previous installments) but I left it more limited in which to give a well-rounded product. I think that's where I would fall flat in the past (as booking a total niche product makes it so you have to FOLLOW that niche at all times). Now, the product is what I like to call "Chicago Modern" (the Chicago part I will describe next). Needless to say, it's modern tinted wrestling (at a medium level) along with a hard-nosed mentality/sense of spine/rebellious nature.

Unlike the previous installments, the DOA Dungeon now resides in Chicago. Jensen Tarver, the top Arcadia executive in charge of DOA, is from Chicago and wanted to find a fanbase that could really house the aggressive nature of the DOA. While others within the network wanted the show to be filmed on the Arcadia lot in Los Angeles, Tarver (who we will come to know REALLY needs the DOA to succeed) was afraid that the local fanbase wasn't 'rabid' enough to really complete the tone of the program/company. That said, the Dungeon was built out of an old warehouse in Chicago; equip with modern, state of the art technology.

The roster is made up of two different facets. I call them "The Future is RIGHT now" and "I've got something to prove". That's more conceptual in nature (not actually separating the roster that way) but it's another aspect of the product. The "Future is NOW" crowd (heavily focused on the rise of Steven Parker as the face of this movement) are the young wrestlers on the roster who haven't really been seen on national TV yet. They are, essentially, 'home grown talent' (since they are associated with DOA vs. SWF/TCW/USPW). These wrestlers are people like: Steven Parker, Matthew Keith, The Ring Generals, Tank (Findlay), Dozer (Brandon Smith), Xavier (created wrestler from the UK). Outside of them are the veterans with something to prove: Greg Black, Clark Alexander, Akima Brave, Death Row, Acid, etc. These figures all have different reasons to "get back into the limelight" & these motivations will be documented leading up with time.

The schedule will be one 1 HR show a week (not always updating every week due to my schedule) and a PPV every 3 months. There is room for MORE PPV events but not right away. The first PPV will be "Survival of the Fearless" (3 months in); a PPV I've run in the past with the DOA. It's a one-night tournament event with the winner getting a shot at the DOA Championship. I feel, overall, the schedule will be more realistic for me and there will be times that you may only get one show a month (due to my schedule). There may be times that the thread even seems 'dead' in a way (again due to my schedule). That said, that's the only way I can proceed with a dynasty (which, I know, is a stark contrast from my past of 1-2 shows a week).

Jensen Tarver (as said above) is still the owner (along with Arcadia). I'm currently writing an editorial about his status right now (which will shed more light on him & his motivations for the DOA). In turn, my user character is Evan Vaughn (EV). He's a respected writer within Arcadia who was the lead writer for the network's biggest show -- "LEGENDS". When DOA was created, and "LEGENDS" wrapped up the series, EV was pulled in to help craft/book the DOA. Needless to say, several IWC members are annoyed that a 'hollywood writer' is the booker and NOT a wrestling mind. There's A LOT of pressure on EV (from the IWC and Tarver).

So, there in lies the re-imagined version of Deadly Overloaded Action. It should be going live sometime within the next few weeks!

Sounds pretty damned awesome. I'm going to buy my tickets now and hope for front row.

Any chance one of the talented folks on here could do me a graphical favor?

I was hoping to get two done of the one in sunglasses. One in a suit and one in an open collared shirt. Like The Rock or Alberto Del Rio.

And the one without sunglasses needs a Ric Flair robe. Any color(s) would be fine. I have no preference.

These alts will be going to good home in a (modestly) popular and long running TEW 2013 dynasty.

    Thanks in advance.

    :)
