He's still in rough shape physically. Seeing him go over Flair was a real shocker to me, particularly because he's pushed as an upper midcarder. </p><p> </p><p> KVE, meanwhile, is a mess. Many attributed this to the continuing distraction of his drug problems. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>THE MEGA POWERS DOMINATE:</strong> The alliance between Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage would be WWF’s main story for the rest of the year. Freed from the influence of Bobby Heenan, Andre the Giant turned face so that he could oppose the Mega Powers. He was joined by the likes of Ricky Steamboat and Harley Race in an ongoing war that raged across multiple events. Thanks to interference from Savage and the rest of Jimmy Hart’s cronies, Hogan managed to retain the World title through the end of the year. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>REDECORATING THE FLOWER SHOP:</strong> In June, Adrian Adonis defeated Paul Orndorff to win the Intercontinental title. That would be the only title change after the events of WrestleMania V.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>PIPER’S QUIET RETURN:</strong> Roddy Piper returned to the company in July but failed to recapture his spot as top heel with the Mega Powers running hot. Rumors persist that an icy relationship between Piper and Vince McMahon may have contributed to Piper’s diminished role. He began the year as the hottest star in wrestling and ended it jobbing to the Big Boss Man. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>THE KING OF THE RING:</strong> Bob Orton Jr won the King of the Ring tournament for the second straight year, making sure the Kings Club continued on. The AWA remains the U.S.’s 3rd most popular company behind WWF and WCW, largely thanks to their deal with ESPN. The roster features a dozen wrestlers over 40 and only four under 30. Those youngsters – Buzz Sawyer, One Man Gang, and the Rockers – might not be content waiting their turn forever. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>FRITZ RETURNS:</strong> Using the money from Ted Turner’s buyout of WCWA, Fritz Von Erich leapt right back into the wrestling business, founding the USWA. WE! ARE! LIVE! From a sold out Metrodome in Minnesota! A venue I actually picked on purpose for once.

A handful of early arrivals watch Luna Vachon demolish Desiree Petersen to win the WWF Women’s Championship. One day, this division might escape pre-show purgatory.

    GRADE:
    21 (oof)

In our annual pre-show Battle Royale, the Big Bossman outlasts 19 other competitors. Adrian Adonis is the last man knocked over the top rope.

    GRADE:
    65

The PPV kicks off with the National Anthem and WWF World Champion Harley Race! Still popular from his AWA days, Race thanks the crowd for their support and reflects on his 30 year career. He sees a bit of his younger self in Hulk Hogan – a man who let ambition cloud his judgment. “I wish someone would’ve whipped me 10 years ago like I’m going to whip Hogan tonight!”

    GRADE:
    93

In our opening contest, Razor Ramon’s size advantage and willingness to bend the rules proves too much for Tito Santana. Ramon wins with a Razor’s Edge.

    GRADE:
    68

After a real slugfest, Ron Simmons puts away Jim Neidhart with a Dominator.

    GRADE:
    63

Honky Tonk Man and Nikita Koloff arrive for their match. But first – a sample from Honky Tonk: Live in Moscow! The Honky Tonk Man performs his hit song "Breadline Blues" while Koloff shouts the lyrics in Russian.

    GRADE:
    83

After a back-and-forth match, the Kings Club defeat Honky Tonk and Koloff after Beefcake puts Honky to sleep.

    GRADE:
    73

The Junkyard Dog arrives for his match against Davey Boy Smith with his ribs taped. It’s a bad sign for JYD as the British Bulldog takes him apart with repeated backbreakers and slams. Eventually, the ref calls for an end to the match as JYD can’t stand.

    GRADE:
    81

Next, Ricky Steamboat and Jake Roberts meet in a 30+ minute showcase of technical wrestling and drama. Roberts continuously tries to take the match outside and force Steamboat to engage in his violent ways, but Steamboat refuses to be baited. At one point, after Roberts swats him across the back with a chair, Steamboat begs the ref not to DQ his opponent. Finally, after an attempted DDT on the exposed floor that could’ve ended Steamboat’s career, the Dragon loses his temper. The crowd is hot for the match ending flurry that sees Steamboat pin Roberts after a vicious head kick.

    GRADE:
    94

Hulk Hogan is backstage with Mean Gene. Responding to Race’s earlier promo, Hogan calls the champion a sad old man and a cautionary tale. He promises to retire Harley and then force Randy Savage to raise his hand.

    GRADE:

Demolition defeat the Patriots after Paul Roma falls victim to the Decapitation. Demolition at last win the WWF World Tag Team titles!

    GRADE:
    81

Once the bout between Andre the Giant and Paul Orndorff begins, it becomes very clear that Orndorff studied the Coliseum Video of Andre’s WrestleMania III match with Hogan. He copies Hogan’s strategy successfully, even managing to body slam the Giant. Bobby Heenan is in disbelief as the pinfall is counted.

    GRADE:
    76

In front of a sobbing Bobby Heenan, Paul Orndorff tears up The Brain’s managing license. The Heenan Family is officially dead.

    GRADE:
    90

The Flamingos defeat the Rougeaus in a hotly contested match with a lot of sequins.

    GRADE:
    60

Finally, in the main event, Harley Race battles Hulk Hogan in a hard-hitting brawl. The grizzled veteran is on the ropes multiple times, but always manages to come back – “Harley-ing Up” if you will. Randy Savage calls the match down the middle, at least until Jimmy Hart attempts to slide the World Title to Hogan. Savage rips the weapon away from his old rival…

…and cracks Harley in the face with it. Hogan hits a leg-drop to seal the victory and claim the WWF World Heavyweight Championship for the second time.

    GRADE:
    99

As boos rain down, Savage happily raises Hogan’s hand. “The MANIA and the MADNESS, yeah, we run this business… not Harley Race… not PRESIDENT Jack Tunney yeah…” Hogan and Savage shake hands as Jimmy Hart dances around them. “Welcome to the era of the Mega Powers, brother.”

    GRADE:

    OVERALL GRADE:

    Joshbrady91 – 7/10

    smw88 – 6/10

    Alpha – 5/10

*puts a gun to Bobby Heenan’s head* YOU DON’T THINK I’LL DO IT???

    March, Week 3, 1989.

Monsoon and Heenan present some exclusive footage from before the show. Randy Savage – who has been MIA since his loss to Harley Race at Saturday Night’s Main Event – arrives at the arena and immediately heads for Jack Tunney’s office.

Jim Duggan beats Tama with a shoulder tackle.

    GRADE:

Duggan is joined by fellow tag champ Paul Roma. As a couple of red-blooded patriots, they’ve got no time for Demolition’s un-American Satanism. At WrestleMania, they’re going to teach those demons a lesson – HOOOOOO!

In a non-title affair, Paul Orndorff pins Hercules after a piledriver. He locks eyes with Bobby Heenan as three is counted.

    GRADE:

After the Hercules loss, Heenan frets about losing his managing license. Andre the Giant soothes him by palming his head and promising to crush Orndorff.

In a skit from before the show, Honky Tonk Man and Nikita Koloff have set up a booth in front of the arena where they’re selling copies of
    Honky Tonk: Live in Moscow
. “This record’s going to win us the Nobel Peace Prize,” claims Jimmy Hart via his megaphone. Bob Orton and Brutus Beefcake happen by and heckle HTM and Koloff, eventually inviting the scant fans in line to come inside for free drinks on the Kings. Koloff and HTM are left fuming.

Ron Simmons defeats Tito Santana with a Dominator. During the match, Razor Ramon again comes to ringside. Simmons takes advantage when Tito tries to shoo Razor away.

    GRADE:

While Tito recovers from the Dominator, Razor gets a mic and steps on Tito’s head. “Since you don’t want my help, chico, maybe I make my name off you instead…” A beaten Tito gets a toothpick to the face.

The Kings Club defeat the Wild Samoans by DQ after Honky Tonk Man and Nikita Koloff rush the ring and beat down Orton and Beefcake.

Jake Roberts addresses Ricky Steamboat from an undisclosed location. Roberts claims they were never friends and that Steamboat always knew what kind of man he was. Their partnership was only ever a convenient stepping stone for Roberts on his way to bigger things. “You’ve got the Snake’s venom in your veins, Dragon. You’re finished… you just don’t know it yet.”

    GRADE:

The Furies (the team of Luna Vachon and Dump Matsumoto) defeat WWF Women’s champion Desiree Petersen and former champ Tina Ferrari in a pretty one-sided encounter. Monsoon gets across how the Women’s Division has never seen the like of Vachon and Matsumoto.

    GRADE:
    64

In the main event, the Junkyard Dog defeats Davey Boy Smith by DQ after the British Bulldog takes the fight to the outside and smashes JYD’s back repeatedly into the railing, ignoring multiple warnings by the ref to stop.

Adrian Adonis welcomes Harley Race and Hulk Hogan into the Flower Shop. The two are separated by layers of security and Adonis warns them not to damage any of his precious plants. Due to their behavior over the last few weeks, no WWF official wants to work their match at WrestleMania. Therefore, it is Adrian’s duty to announce the special guest referee, as decided by President Jack Tunney…

    “Macho Man” Randy Savage.

  9. I am currently about 10 months ahead in-game of my diary (NJPW 2019 - Long Term), so I am thinking of slowing down (in-game) so that my writing can catch up to it a bit.

In the meantime I am considering starting a new dynasty on the side with NXT UK, I understand to do this without booking the entire WWE product I'll need to edit the relationship with WWE and make it a working agreement instead of a developmental/child company agreement. Do you think it's possible to run a successful federation this way? We would still have the WWE Network broadcasting deal for the TV Show/Events and all the workers contracts would have to change from developmental to written/PPA. I think the hardest part would be that basically no workers in the Fleisch mod have any pop in the UK, even Pete Dunne has like E pop in the British Isles I believe, so it could absolutely stink and fail.

I'm also contemplating a PROGRESS dynasty or perhaps Dragon Gate. Thoughts?

I'd be a little concerned with AI Vince dumping the working agreement and going to war. You might be better off putting NXT UK into an alliance with WWE. I imagine you'd be running a product that doesn't rely overmuch on popularity, so the low pop might not hurt you too much. Could probably work but I'd do a quick test run first once you've made edits to see if any problems crop up.

    PRIME TIME WRESTLING

    March, Week 2, 1989.

President Jack Tunney opens the show by summoning both Harley Race and Hulk Hogan for a formal reprimand after multiple officials were hurt during their brawl last week. Of course, another brawl erupts, with Hogan and Race again pulverizing WWF staff to get at each other. Both champion and challenger are eventually tossed from the arena.

    PRIME TIME WRESTLING

    March, Week 1, 1989.

New WWF Champion Harley Race opens the show, thanking the fans for their support. “I’ve won a lot of titles in my career, but this is definitely the most important.” I’m sure he didn’t mean that as a dig at WCW. Hulk Hogan arrives to offer Race a chance to retire gracefully or else risk the wrath of his 24 inch pythons. “I’ve stretched bigger boys than you, son,” Race replies, refusing to back down. The two are held apart by WWF security, but will meet later in tonight’s tag-team main event.

Heenan claims he’s the spiritual double champ of WWF. Overhearing, Orndorff comes out to make Heenan an offer – he’ll defend his IC title at WrestleMania against one of Heenan’s remaining clients, but only if Heenan puts his managing license on the line. 12. Harley Race. In WWF. In 1989. At 46. Is the WWF Champion.

    What a world.

Race as champion - the AI is old school … it's considering brigning back Bruno Sammartino for Mania I assume?

I had to read about this on Wikipedia because I don't remember it AT ALL, but apparently Race did turn face in '89 and briefly feud with King Haku leading into the Rumble. He's never been injured in this world like in real life so he's still hanging around. What's even more bizarre is that the three most popular guys on the roster (Hogan, Macho, Piper) are all heels and Race isn't even the most popular face (that's Steamboat).

And you joke about Bruno but he's still active in the game at 54! AI Vince makes some bizarre hires so I hope you didn't just curse me. Going to quit if I have Bruno main eventing WrestleMania VI.

  13. It will be interesting to see who the fourth Horseman is going to be.

    The White Castle of Fear...:eek::D

After booking that first SME, I simmed ahead with WCW and won't be picking back up with them until December 89 for Starrcade. It doesn't look like the AI got my memo on the Horsemen.

Counting down to the first OD on that WCW roster … 3...2...1

It's unbelievable to me that I've come this far and no one has OD'd or even fallen into a wood chipper.

    THE ROAD TO WRESTLEMANIA

WWF notes from January and February, 1989:

    CURTAINS FOR PIPER:
For months, Roddy Piper used every shortcut in the book to retain his WWF World Heavyweight title. Finally, at the Royal Rumble, he was forced to defend his belt against the Junkyard Dog with the stipulation that any count-out, DQ, or outside interference would result in the title being awarded to JYD. Piper still put JYD to sleep! But… after the match, backstage footage revealed Piper slipping a sedative into JYD’s water bottle. Piper was immediately stripped of the title and President Jack Tunney announced the belt would be awarded to the winner of that night’s Royal Rumble.

However, Piper managed to force his way into the Royal Rumble using Smash’s number. Thanks to constant interference from Demolition, Piper won the Rumble. Instead of being awarded the title, Piper was gifted with an indefinite suspension and the WWF title held up.

(Best explanation I could come up with for Piper retaining his title AND winning the Rumble just days before he leaves to shoot a movie. Thanks, AI.)

    MORE RUMBLE CONTROVERSY:
After their meeting at WrestleMania IV, Doom reigned as WWF Tag Champs throughout ’88, constantly battling the former champions the Hart Foundation. The rivalry took a turn during the Rumble event when Butch Reed eliminated both himself and Bret Hart with a brutal diving shoulder block. The tumble injured both men for the foreseeable future and Doom was forced to vacate the tag titles. The vacant belts were eventually won by The Patriots – the team of Jim Duggan and Paul Roma.

    TURN THE PAGE:
Three major turns went down between January and February. Overcome with frustration after losing the WWF World Title, Randy Savage returned to the dark side. (First guy the AI has turned twice.) Following a successful partnership with Ricky Steamboat, Jake Roberts turned on his friend at the Royale Rumble. And, on the heels of Paul Orndroff’s defection, Harley Race also left the Heenan Family…

    OLD MAN HARLEY:
…having scrapped his “King” schtick and gone to gone to a more grizzled veteran gimmick, Race faced Savage at February’s Saturday Night’s Main Event for the vacant WWF World title. He won. 46 year old Harley Race is your WWF champ heading into WrestleMania.

    Uh, great.

Feels like this might be a good time to start posting title lineages:

After months of signing independent workers to written contracts and poaching the occasional WWF worker like Rick Martel and Haku yet not producing a single wrestling show, Ted Turner and his World Championship Wrestling venture at last made their move. January saw Turner complete buyouts of both Jim Crockett Promotions and Fritz Von Erich’s World Championship Wrestling Association. Numerous contracts were kept, including Ric Flair and the onerous 10-year deal of Kerry Von Erich. The NWA title lineages are also being kept intact, although all belts have been vacated with the exception of Ric Flair’s newly renamed WCW World Heavyweight title.

The first episode of the rebranded WCW Saturday Night will air the first week of February in the coveted TBS slot.

    February, Week 1, 1989.

The Jims welcome us to the show and immediately toss to the ring where we await a formal introduction from the benefactor of WCW: Billionaire Ted. As bomb track “Money, Money, Money (Everybody’s Got a Price)” plays, “Billion Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase arrives. He claims to have invested significant personal wealth into assembling the best talent in the world. DiBiase is interrupted by WCW World Champion Ric Flair. “You might cut the checks – WOO! – but everybody here knows the Nature Boy sells the tickets!” Flair complains about having to defend his title in tonight’s main event against Kerry Von Erich. Hennig complains that Luger wasn’t up to his standard and that no one on this roster can match his technical prowess. “Sure about that, mate?” asks the Dynamite Kid as he swaggers/limps onto set. The two engage in a stare-down.

SOME PROGRAMMING NOTES: When I add my user character to the game, I try to pick the preset archetype that best fits the person. For instance, with Vince, I use "Creative Leader." When I took over WCW playing as Ted Turner, I chose "Top Negotiator" and didn't think much of it. Turns out, that type only has a '1' in Creativity, so virtually all the gimmicks bombed on WCW's debut show. Oops! After I left the game to start simming again, AI Turner hired Bill Watts so I'm sure everything will turn out great!

I'm not sure how much WCW I want to cover/play in this diary. Part of me wants to stick with just WWF so that I can advance into the future as quickly as possible. But I'm also drawn to a lot of the characters currently in WCW. We'll see.

Updates will be slow the next couple weeks as I'm traveling for the holidays. Thanks for following, everybody! It's been a lot of fun so far.

  16. Andre as IC champion is something I never even thought of. Love it just for being different.

Definitely not something I would've done if the AI hadn't foisted it on me. It feels weird!

Really trying to imagine what role Piper would play in Total Recall. Somehow I can picture him as Benny.

Two obvious ones Arnies or Ironsides, anyone who has seen They Live knows that he could have made it as an actor had wrestlers got more respect earlier. He actually had ability but was already too old to establish himself at that point. I could buy him as a construction worker or menacing goon. Verhoven liked using B actors in his films as it let him spend that money he saved on other things like special effects and TR IS a satire in many ways as are most of his films.

I love where this discussion has gone. Piper's gone for 5 months of filming and he's Icon level pop (in spite of my booking him to feud with Kamala). I figure it's got to be a pretty big part! Him playing Richter is probably the right call, but now I can't stop imagining a world where he's Quaid.

  17. 1988: THE YEAR IN REVIEW

    2wi7DDq.jpg

ANDRE’S BUTT CRACKS HEENAN FAMILY: A fractured tailbone in June would force Andre the Giant to vacate the Intercontinental title. Paul Orndorff claimed the vacant title and defended it successfully until Andre’s return. When told by Heenan to turn the belt over to Andre, Orndorff refused, turning face. He’d hold the title for the rest of ’88.

BELTS AND BAGPIPES: Randy Savage’s run as WWF World Champion would be short-lived. At the June supercard, Savage lost the belt to Roddy Piper (with Demolition interference). Piper’s reign of terror continued for the rest of the year.

THE KING OF THE RING: Bob Orton Jr won the King of the Ring tournament, defeating Greg Valentine in the Finals. He would go on to form a tag-team with fellow “King” Brutus Beefcake. Just some good ol’ blue collar royalty that likes having fun with the fans.

THE RUSSIAN NIGHTMARE ARRIVES: WWF’s big signing this year was Nikita Koloff who made the jump from JCP in August.

PAUL VERHOEVEN, PIPER STAN?: As the year came to a close, rumors circulated that WWF Champion Roddy Piper was close to being cast as a major character in upcoming sci-fi flick Total Recall. “If Vince doesn’t want me to moonlight, maybe he should pay my god damn health insurance.”

    P46JtKs.jpgwWF8VpX.jpgiGjPD8P.jpg

MIXED SIGNALS ON FLAIR: Ric Flair finished another calendar year as NWA World Champion, extending the reign that’s been going since 1986. Early in the year, rumors hit the dirt sheets that Flair would be downgraded from his top guy status. That would prove not to be the case as, by December, JCP had rededicated themselves to Flair, perhaps after cost-cutting measures forced them to release rising star Lex Luger.

AWA UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP: Following an abrupt retirement from Verne Gagne and the revelation of financial improprieties by his son Greg, the AWA fell into the hands of longtime jobber Danny Davis (not the ref). Under his stewardship, AWA continued to put on boring wrestling shows based around 54 year-old champion Nick Bockwinkel. Despite the dullness, their TV deal with ESPN made them more stable than most US companies.

TED TURNER RISING…? As the year came to a close, a number of wrestlers were signed to a project helmed by billionaire media mogul Ted Turner. Turner’s World Championship Wrestling has yet to air a single show and rumors persist that Turner is “waiting for the ink to dry…”

    gnhOg5U.jpgjQS1gKt.jpg

THE BATTLE FOR JAPAN, PART 2: New Japan once again finished ahead of All Japan, although the companies appeared virtually equal in popularity.

CHAMPION'S CARNIVAL: Road Warrior Animal won this year’s Champion’s Carnival, his first singles title of any kind. With the success they've garnered in Japan, it seems unlikely that the Road Warriors will ever return to America.

INTERNATIONAL WRESTLING GRAND PRIX: Tatsumi Fujinami won his second straight IWGP.

    6p6lhOv.jpg

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR: Yoshiaki Fujiwara (NJPW)

US WRESTLER OF THE YEAR: Hulk Hogan (#2)

TAG TEAM: Genichiro Tenryu & Jumbo Tsuruta (AJPW)

YOUNG WRESTLER OF THE YEAR: Takashi Iizuka (NJPW)

VETERAN WRESTLER OF THE YEAR: Antonio Inoki (NJPW)

FEMALE WRESTLER OF THE YEAR: Bull Nakano (AJW)

COMPANY OF THE YEAR: NJPW (10th time, 3rd straight)

MOST IMPROVED COMPANY: AJW (rose to cult; joshi doing well!)

CARD OF THE YEAR: WrestleMania IV

My curated MOTY list excludes matches from non-events and includes at least one match from each Cult+ company:

    10) Nick Bockwinkel d. “Dirty” Dick Slater to retain the AWA Heavyweight title, AWA January supercard. 80. No one wants this.

    9) Kevin Von Erich d. Kevin Sullivan to retain the WCWA World Heavyweight title, WCWA August Supercard. 89. Kevin Von Erich remains the champion in Texas, although his brother Kerry is still the more marketable star.

    8) El Dandy d. Lizmark to retain the NWA World Middleweight title, EMLL Risa Pasada. 90. Mexico!

    7) Ric Flair d. Dusty Rhodes to retain the NWA World Heavyweight title, JCP Starrcade. 91. Won’t you guys just admit that you’re in love with each other?

    6) Chigusa Nagayo d. Bull Nakano in block action, AJW Japan Grand Prix ’88. 95. Unlike in America, women wrestling has support in Japan. Nagayo would end up losing this tournament to Dump Matsumoto. Someone must have sent Vince a VHS, because WWF signed Matsumoto in October.

    5) Andre the Giant d. Randy Savage for the WWF Intercontinental Championship, WWF February supercard. 99. Finally, Andre gets his hands on “the wrestling” title. It was this match that would set Savage toward the biggest win of his career.

    4) Riki Chosu d. Jumbo Tsuruta to retain the PWF World Heavyweight title, AJPW Super Power Series. 99. AJPW has too many titles! That’s going to change in ’89…

    3) Tatsumi Fujinami d. Akira Maeda, NJPW Face of Danger II, December. 100. A grudge match between the vicious heel Maeda and the babyface Fujinami.

    2) Roddy Piper d. Randy Savage to retain the WWF World Heavyweight title, WWF October supercard. 100. The rematch where Savage would come up short yet again. The losses begin to send Savage spiraling down a dark path…

    1) Yoshiaki Fujiwara & Antonio Inoki d. Takashi Iizuka & Dean Malenko, NJPW Super Grade Tag League block action. 100. The heavyweight champion and the face of New Japan would go on to win the Tag League, but they wouldn’t soon forget this match against young upstarts.

As I progress along here, is there any information about the world you guys would like to know? Trying to cover the big events without getting too into the weeds, but I'm happy to fill in any gaps.

Roddy Piper defeats Kamala by count out. Less a match than an attempt at live action Looney Toons. Piper deploys various traps from around ringside – a snare, a net, a bamboo chute dart blower – avoiding disqualification only because Kamala proves so consistently elusive. However, with the ref distracted, Demolition, who have been hiding under the ring since their earlier victory, snag Kamala’s feet in some fur-lined shackles and prevent him from answering the count.

Doom defeats the Hart Foundation to win the WWF World Tag Team titles. The match plays out In typical Hart Foundation fashion: Hart gets worked over by Doom for most of the match, only to make a hot tag to Neidhart. WRESTLEMANIA IV AFTERMATH:

    • Hogan was not happy about jobbing to Savage. He'll literally still be bitching about it at WrestleMania V.

    • The AI does a brilliant thing and books Andre vs Savage at the April supercard. (Savage retains.)

    • The AI does an even MORE brilliant thing and turns Dino Bravo face then slaps him into a tag-team with Koko B Ware. The AI calls them Team Roar because computers can't understand birds. I rename them The Flamingos.

    PRIME TIME WRESTLING

    March, Week 3, 1988.

Hulk Hogan opens the show by summoning Andre the Giant to the ring. “I know you want to be in the main event, brother, so the Hulkster has an idea. Be my corner man. Shake my hand and we can put all this bad blood behind us.” Andre seems skeptical. Before he can respond, Macho Man and Junkyard Dog hit the ring armed with steel chairs to get some revenge for last week. Hogan escapes but Andre absorbs a few shots before plopping to the outside.

    GRADE:
    100

The Junkyard Dog d. Jimmy Jack Funk. JYD is especially fired up after getting one over on Andre.

    GRADE:
    74

Highlights play from a recent episode of Superstars where Dino Bravo lost by count out to Koko B Ware after being distracted by his parrot. In studio, Dino and manager Frenchy Martin cut a promo complaining that Koko’s bird said terrible things to Dino in Quebecois.

    GRADE:
    86

The Heenan Family (Hercules and Paul Orndorff) d. The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers in a very one-sided match.

    GRADE:
    75

Heenan announces that Hercules and Orndorff happily accept the challenge from Steamboat and Roberts. He wonders if Steamboat has any idea what kind of creep he’s teaming with. Steamboat and Roberts emerge from the back but are held back by officials.

    GRADE:
    93

“King Barber” Brutus Beefcake d. Greg Valentine by DQ. Harley Race spoils this back-and-forth match when he appears at ringside and brains Brutus with his own crown.

    GRADE:
    77

Bret Hart (with Jim Neidhart) d. Nikolai Volkoff with the Sharpshooter. A tough match for the Hitman. Gorilla speculates throughout what “surprise” Slick and Butch Reed might have for the tag champs.

    GRADE:
    82

A video of Davey Boy Smith lassoing a steer with one hand while drinking his afternoon tea with the other. “Any proper Englishman could roll out of bed and immediately best a cowboy.”

    GRADE:
    66

Doom (Butch Reed & Ron Simmons) squash the hell out of the Killer Bees.

    GRADE:
    61

Butch and Slick introduce Ron Simmons to the WWF audience. They call themselves Doom. The Hart Foundation should know their days as tag champs are numbered.

    GRADE:
    66

Hulk Hogan d. Outback Jack in a squash. Big boot. Leg drop.

    GRADE:
    79

Randy Savage again rushes the ring to get at Hulk Hogan, but is met by a team of officials. Hogan raises the World Title and cups a hand to his ear.

    GRADE:
    100

Roddy Piper & Demolition d. Kamala & Strike Force when Piper finishes off Rick Martel with a DDT after trapping him in a net. Throughout the match, Piper and his leather-clad minions repeatedly try to stuff Kamala into a crate.

    81

    OVERALL GRADE:

  22. This has been fantastic thus far. I love how you are trying to fix the AI's screw ups. I sometimes look at the result from AI shows and scratch my head, it is like Vince Russo entered the industry a few years earlier than in our time.

Thank you! I am about a year ahead right now and buddy that AI goes places. It's a lot of fun trying to produce a good show in four weeks after 11 months of absolute madness. It's made me throw up my hands at times. But then there are moments -- I'm thinking of two specific booking decisions that go down after WrestleMania IV -- that just work out perfectly.
