  1. Yeah. But HBK could get a match of the year performance out of any one of us or out of a statue if necessary. :D He's going for a consecutive 7 year run with the match of the year award. That's a unique achievement.

Heck, he could probably get a Match of the Year out of Vince McMahon. Wait, he actually did that.

When you really think about it, it's kind of incredible. There's been 19 calender years since the Rockers broke up and HBK has been a singles competitor. He missed 3 of those and almost all of 2 others due to his back injury, and he missed a good portion of another year when he "lost his smile." Aside from this year (since MOTY hasn't been determined yet), that leaves 12 years where he wrestled the whole year - he won MOTY in 10 of them. And one of the years he didn't was his first year after the Rockers and he was still establishing himself. Basically, he's 10-for-11 in Match of the Year wins. The year he didn't win it? His first full year after his back injury, when he fought Chris Jericho at Wrestlemania. That would be MOTY in a LOT of years. (it lost to the Angle-Lesnar Iron Man match)

They're in one of the main events of Summerslam. You gotta make them look strong. In surprised WWE went as far as they did though. I'd have kept the clean sweep, but I'd have had FAR more cheating from the Nexus dudes. Show the ref having trouble keeping tabs on all 7 of them, well-oiled machine as they are. Plus I probably would have swapped out the Harts for Santino & Koslov.

You can't push everybody. This time it's Nexus, which is a fine choice. Fresh meat.

I had no problem with the way that match went down...in fact, it's exactly what I was expecting and hoping for. That, combined with all the tension on Team Cenicho, really makes you think Nexus is going to win. That's the idea, anyway. I wouldn't have minded if there was more cheating and teamwork from Nexus, but I think the clean sweep was absolutely vital. And you had to have some legitimate names to make it impressive. I think it helps Nexus a lot more than it hurts Henry, Bourne, and the Harts.

  2. <p>I just had a horrifying thought. You look at Raw's team, and they have all been attacked by the Nexus...all except Khali. The only thing that happened between Khali and Nexus was that weird promo where his manager/translator/brother turned on him by saying Khali would run from Nexus and walking away, never to be seen again. So, here's my thought...is Ranjin Singh the leader of Nexus???</p><p> </p><p>

    They've done dumber things...</p>

The funniest thing to me was always, when Orton was a heel, the people that would complain about how boring Cena is because he only has a few moves and whatever, and then turn around and wet themselves over Orton...it's like, hello, even with Cena's 5 moves he has twice as many as Orton. At least Cena is entertaining on the mic...oh yeah, and he's not a jackass. As far as I'm concerned, Orton is a real world Big Smack Scott. Even if he has grown up lately like some say(which could be temporary, or stuff's just not getting out), he's still incredibly boring to me. It's painful to watch him try to cut a promo and I don't think he adds much in the ring.</p>

It's ridiculous beyond words to even mention TO and Brett Favre in the same post, let alone insinuate they're remotely similiar in terms of attitude.</p><p> </p><p> TO called his quarterback gay in San Francisco. He wasn't happy with his individual production there, so he forced his way out. Then when he didn't like where he was traded, he refused to report until they sent him somewhere else. He got his wish again, signed a seven year deal, and after one season demanded to renegotiate. When the team refused, he literally tore the team apart from the inside out. He was such a cancer that he was suspended for the maximum number of games allowed and then paid to sit at home for the rest of the season. Seriously - they were willing to pay him to stay away from the team. That doesn't sound like the good was outweighing the bad.</p><p> </p><p> What has Brett Favre done that's remotely comparable to any of that? Which teammates has he pubically attacked? When did he holdout? When did he force a suspension and a paid vacation? Ok, he takes his time deciding if he's going to play. Green Bay didn't have a problem with it until the last season - and when they did, they simply traded him. Minnesota's never had a problem with it. Their coach has repeatedly said that there's no timetable. And I've never seen one thing that indicates he's anything but the best teammate imaginable once he joins the team.</p>
  6. Its hard to believe its been over 4 years since Trips was a heel. He turned face in 06 I think it was to do the DX thing and hasn't been heel since I don't think.

Yep, he started his fued with Vince right after WM 22. Been a face ever since. Personally, I'm ready for him to be a heel again. DX is gone, so they're not going to have the comedy angles they provided, and I just don't think he's an effective face without that. IMO, he's a much better heel. Plus Raw has Cena and Orton already. Cena and Triple H still haven't had a full fledged, drawn out fued(just two one-off matches) and I think that could be a great one.

  7. My question is why is the masked SES member still masked? Is RUMOR deleted really that big of a star to merit this long of build up to revealing who he is?

Ah, but you're assuming it actually is him under the mask...sure, it might be him playing him right now, but who knows who will be under there when the mask comes off. It could be HBK for all you know. (unlikely, but you get my point) Maybe it'll be Bryan Danielson - who I proposed join the SES as soon as he got voted off NXT.

You're also assuming this is leading to some type of big reveal...and there's no guarantee that's going to happen. As far as I know that guy hasn't even had a match yet. He may well just disappear one of these days, never to be seen again.

I'm actually glad they did that. Normally I'd be all abut a mask-mask fued, but i'm done with the Punk-Rey fued after 6 months of it, and it seems like the WWE is too.

In addition, why on earth would Rey put his mask on the line vs. Punk's? Rey's mask means something, Punk's is a joke. There was no reason, ever, for Rey to go mask vs. mask.

It would be like Racing for pink's, and one guy has a Sweet car and the other guy has his dad's trans-am.

Why on earth would the person in Rey's position agree to a MAsk vs. MAsk blow off?

I suspect that's why they canned the fued and moved rey to Swagger. Why on earth would Rey give a flying poop about putting his mask up to get one a shot at punk?

Yeah, it really doesn't make any sense. And at first I was thinking they could still at least unmask Punk on a PPV, as part of a fued with somebody else, but...we've already seen Punk bald. We saw him get shaved. It's really not that big of a deal. He'll probably have his mask on again next week, anyway.

  8. If you watch previous MITB matches, you'll notice that several people spend much of the match "laid out" outside the ring. They get up for a little sequence then return to the mats somehow. That's a role Mark Henry can play perfectly.

Yep. There's 8 guys in the match. There's time for just about every type of wrestler to do something. Mark Henry is there to pick up a ladder with 4 people on it, catch somebody jumping from the top of the ladder to the outside, etc.

And while watching a full Raw, you missed the replays they showed of what he did to Darren Young last week?

I assumed he meant taking out one or two more on THIS Raw...could be wrong though.

One thing I did notice though. The Dibiase-Morrison segment was GODAWFUL. Ted couldn't get through his lines without flubbing at least twice and it was about as compelling as trying to start a 30 year old lawnmower. And am I the only one to notice that Maryse has fewer curves than a no. 2 pencil? She's built like an 11 year old boy. I wonder who they'll pull out of mothballs to team with Morrison against Dibiase and Maryse.

I can't stand DiBiase. The sound of his voice alone puts me to sleep. I don't mind him in the ring, but they need to stop putting a mic in front of his face. Never been a fan of Maryse either. It's got to be Melina that teams with Morrison, assuming she's healthy enough to return...and she should be, since she's wrestling in FCW tomorrow night. Seems almost too obvious.

  9. You are so off base here, it's not even funny. Lemme ask you a serious question. A major media outlet offers you money (that you choose to donate to charity) to make your decision on their airspace in a televised special. Do you turn it down? HELL NO you don't. Seriously, if you know any professional athletes at all, you would know that it's often the MEDIA that promotes these things. If someone's offering you a million funneled to your crew to give them "exclusives", you wouldn't turn it down. And if you say you would, I'd question your honesty and your integrity. If a major media outlet or other major sponsor offers you cash money to follow you around for eight months and film your activities, you wouldn't turn it down. So why people hate on folks like TO or Ocho when they take the money and do that, I will never understand.

THIS is what's off base. This is all irrelevant, because the entire premise is wrong. It was LEBRON'S idea. HIS people pitched it to ESPN, not the other way around. Why didn't Wade and Bosh have a primetime special? Why didn't Kobe? Why didn't A-Rod? Comparing the average GreyDogSoftware poster to these player is ridiculous. No offense to the lovely posters here, but few (if any) have made hundreds of millions of dollars. Would I do it for a million dollars? Sure. Would I do it for 3% of what I make in a year? Not a chance in hell.

I can guarandamntee that ESPN got their best ratings in that timeslot than they ever have before. So it was well worth it for them to go through with it.

Exactly, why is why they would do it EVERY NIGHT OF THE WEEK if they could. They'd create ESPN 4: Decisions if they could. Every day, somebody else decides where they're going. Whether it be a free agent, a high profile recruit, or a team making a trade. Tune in tonight to see where the Mariners are sending Cliff Lee! Why aren't they doing it? BECAUSE THE PLAYERS SAY NO! I guarandamntee this isn't the first time they tried to do this.

Oh and HE choked? Hello? Basketball's a team sport. When did Jordan win his first title? Wasn't it after the Bulls surrounded him with players who complemented him?

...did you watch the game? Have you ever watched a basketball game? The only time he didn't choke is when he quit. Anybody who has watched the games knows the difference between how Jordan played when he lost and how LeBron played when he lost.

Why? Why feel bad for "Dan"? Did he not have SEVEN YEARS to build a team around arguably the best all around player in the game right now? You're giving Antawn Jamison way too much credit. He was decent two years ago. Now? I wouldn't take that leap of faith.

The Cavs franchise can go scratch. For four years, the Knicks have been in fire sale mode. David Lee's name has been bandied about in trade talks for two years. Where were the Cavs? You mean to tell me John Salmons wouldn't have been helpful to Cleveland? How about Sheed? Ben Wallace, even at his age, would've been a good fit defensively in the pivot (and the Cavs didn't need scoring from the 5). Brandon Roy's name has been in trade talks as well. What, is he not better than whoever's playing the 2 this year?

I'm sorry, I have zero sympathy for teams that don't give full, honest efforts to assemble championship caliber teams and then whine when their cornerstone players leave. Read Dan Gilbert's letter. Where was the guarantee three years ago? All of a sudden, he's full of piss & vinegar because his cash cow went to a better pasture? Tough.

You're forgetting the fact that LeBron had a say in EVERY decision the Cavaliers made over the last seven years. And no, that's not an exaggeration. He was the de facto owner, president, GM, and coach. Gilbert was there to write the checks, Ferry was there to make the phone calls for LeBron, and Mike Brown was there to tell the other players what LeBron wanted them to do. Why didn't the Cavaliers get those players you mentioned? Because LeBron didn't want them. He wanted Shaq, he got Shaq. He wanted Jamison, he got Jamison. If he wanted Sheed or Brandon Roy, he would've got them. If he had told them to tear apart the team and clear enough space under the cap to sign Bosh and Wade - like Wade told Pat Riley - it would've happened. He wanted to do it on his own, and bolted when he realized he couldn't do it.

Dan Gilbert needs to lay off the barbiturates and hallucinogenics, at least before writing a letter to his customers.

If you're talking about his guarantee, you're the one on barbiturates and hallucinogenics if you think there was anything wrong with that. I thought you were a businessman. What's he supposed to say? "Oh crap, it'll be another 50 years before Cleveland has a shot at a title! You better move to Miami if you want to see the next five NBA champions!"? Hello? He's trying to rally Cavaliers fans, aka his CUSTOMERS. Who cares if what he says has any chance of happening? It's called damage control. The idea isn't to predict the future, it's to keep his fans interested in the team and keep their support. And guess what? It worked. He (and by extension, his team) is more popular with Cavaliers fans than they were right after LeBron said "Miami Heat" a couple hours before that.

  10. Mike Miller got offered 5 years, $27-30 million, fueling speculation that the Heat will lose out on LeBron OR that the Big 3 will be taking less than max in order to ensure they get better pieces around them.

They have to take less so the Heat can sign Chris Paul in 2012.

(If you think I'm joking, I'm not. There's been reports floating that the Big 3 and Paul had so much fun playing together in the 2008 Olympics that they made a pact to get on the same team in the NBA. And I don't mean recent reports, these were coming out at the 2008 Olympics...but at this point, if LeBron does indeed go to Miami, it's too much of a coincidence for those reports not to be true. Bill Simmons has a great article on this on ESPN.)

  11. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="b0shey" data-cite="b0shey" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="25169" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>I bet next week it will be If you smell what the GM is cooking. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Agreed. And then he'll be telling somebody to rest in peace.</p><p> </p><p> To be honest, I doubt anybody is the GM right now. I think Bret Hart being fired was in reaction to Martha's lawsuit (and also Bret's insurance company complaining), and instead of bringing in Abraham Washington, they went this route. I don't mind it. It's the closest thing to having no on screen authority figure, which is my preference.</p>
  12. Even more of a reason they should have just went after them. They had them severely outnumbered.

I'm sure this isn't what the WWE writers were thinking at the time, but I like the idea of having the rookies be less organized, more reluctant, etc when Barrett isn't around. The worse they are without him, the better he looks. And this is all about him, after all. Or at least it should be.

Drew will be awful no matter what, so no worries there.

Fixed that for ya. I'm glad Drew is gone (less stuff to fast forward through when I watch it on my DVR), but this is really crappy timing for Barrett. Hopefully he gets back soon. I wonder if they're considering bringing back Daniel Bryan early.

  13. I bet Dana White is throwing a huge party tonight now. He def doesn't need to bring fedor in to the UFC now. strikeforce saved him a lot of money showing that fedor isn't a top heavyweight and would of been a way over priced midcard in the UFC. Guess that kills the ppv for strikeforce as well. Can also stop hearing the fanboys call him p4p #1 too. Was a good show that I really enjoyed. Only gripe was the Cyborg fight should of been stopped WAY sooner. Was horrible reffing in that fight.

I say he would be a midcard in the UFC cause I don't believe he is as good as their top talent.

...is this sarcasm? Or do you just not follow MMA that closely?

It was one fight - one bad decision in one fight over a ten year career. And now he's a midcarder? Give me a break. There's nobody named Brock Lesnar (who has a loss, by the way - is he a midcarder since he lost to Mir?) that wouldn't be destroyed by Fedor.

  14. Actually, it's about who trademarked/copyrighted it first. I can copyright a bunch of stuff and never use it commercially. If you want to use it, you'd have to buy it from me. Regardless of whether it fits you more than it does just sitting on a shelf.

Did you just post a serious response to that post? Really? Well, as long as we're going down that road, what you said here is not true. Well, not entirely. You're using trademarks and coprights interchangably even though they're two COMPLETELY different things. First, you can't copyright a name. You trademark it. Also, what you said is basically true about copyrights, but not remotely true about trademarks. There are a variety of ways a trademark can be lost - not using it is one way(you have to show you're using it to keep the trademark), but not the only way. For example, the word "frisbee" used to be a trademark of Wham-O. It became so commonly associated with flying discs that the company now has no legal protection over the name. That's why Google tries so hard to stop "google" from being used as a verb.

What was my point? I have no idea. But regardless, there's no way in hell TNA or WWE or anybody else could or would get "Showtime" trademarked as a wrestler's nickname to the point that the other couldn't use it as a nickname for one of their wrestlers.

And to bring this something close to on topic, I'm highly amused by the suggestion that they somehow got the idea from TNA using the name for Erik Young. Does WWE know who Erik Young is? Of course. Not because they follow TNA like somebody said (because they don't), but because they know who every wrestler in the country is(not literally, but the reasonably good ones). They likely have dozens of people whose sole job is to find and watch wrestlers like Erik Young. Just like an NFL team knows about every college football player. However, do the people that gave Percy Watson the nickname 'Showtime' know who Erik Young is, let alone that he uses/used that nickname? Of course not. If they did, they wouldn't have used it.

  15. A nickname can always fix things, or a gradual switch to a swifter name, something like Michael McG(doesn't sound all that better on paper but when a name catches on, it catches on).

This. What would people say if an NXT rookie had the name Hunter Hearst Helmsley? That's a million times worse than Michael McGillicutty in every way possible. Same with Montel Vontavious Porter.

But we've talked about this before, and like I said then, a name only matters the first time you hear it. Then you get used to it and don't think about it. It has no little to no impact on whether or not a guy gets over, to be completely honest.

  16. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Remianen" data-cite="Remianen" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="26724" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>So wait, you're judging a market by what they did for a few months? </div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Short answer? Yes. The NBA moved the team there because of what they did for those few months.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="26724" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Umm Stennick? If he meant people who live there now, you're right of course. Vegas has the population to support a team in any of the major sports, without argument.</p><p> </p><p> But what I assumed he meant - and the (valid) argument against Las Vegas is that very few people living there are "locals" - people born there, raised there, etc. The people that live there don't care about the city, and they're not going to care about the city's sports teams. The sports fans that live there will continue to support the team that they do now, which are based in whatever city they came from. Give them a generation to develop "locals" that will cheer for their own hometown team.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="26724" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>CQI13, let's be real here. No civil jurisdiction is going to let the potential profit that a new stadium would generate go so it's worth it to them to OWN the thing and LEASE it to the team. That allows them to rent it out when it's otherwise not being used. How much money did the city of Denver make off of Barack Obama accepting the Democratic nomination for President? If Pat Bowlen owned that stadium, guess how much they would've made? Big difference between the two numbers. Besides, who wants to be the mayor/local authority who LOST the city's franchise (along with all the jobs attached or related to it) because he wanted to prove a point?</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Yep. It makes no sense for a city to make a team pay for and build a stadium on their own. It's just a huge plot of land in their city being wasted, for them. I thought we moved past that when Wade Barrett mentioned him on the air (hint: they don't do that when people are released) or when they put that poll up on Facebok(hint: they don't do that either). That's why it was a hidden page on their website, that's why Daniel Bryan played along with it on his Twitter or whatever, etc etc...seriously, is there ANY evidence that it's not a work? I haven't seen any.</p>
  18. Personally, I liked this episode. It was uber lame when they all apologized, but then they still ruin the main event...then it's uber lame that Vince tries to take credit, but then they destroy him just like everyone else. The last segment was a little awkward, they teased attacking him just a little too long. I'm guessing the rookies missed a cue and were supposed to surround him sooner.

The good thing is, we still have no idea where this is going. Who is the new GM? Daniel Bryan makes a lot of sense, and would explain why they "released" him. Vince said he couldn't take full credit...who else can take credit? Is there another mastermind? Is it the new GM or someone else? What do they want, now that they all have contracts? And who the F was in that limo???

Edit: Also, am I the only person outside of Ireland that likes Sheamus?

  19. Batista is going to get destroyed. Simple as that. Brock and Bobby had youth on their side.

Plus the fact the had a history of wrestling before hand. Like real wrestling not Wrastling

You mean like Hershel Walker's history of wrestling? It TOTALLY depends on who Batista's opponent is. To say he's going to get destroyed without knowing who he'll be in the cage with is just silly.

  20. Makes no sense, the game show is being hyped on WWE TV. A WWE worker hosting a show and everyone knowing he's a WWE wrestler is bad for the WWE how?

and there ticked he's the host on a major network, so pissed they are promoting the snot out of it?

    Pull the other one.

They're actually not promoting it nearly as much as you'd make it sound(and by that I mean I've yet to see them promote it once, other than commercials airing during WWE shows...but maybe I've missed a snotfull of spots), but either way, they're mad because he either didn't tell them about it all beforehand or didn't tell them how much time it was actually going to take. They're also worried this may pull him away from wrestling permanently, like when Stacy Keibler did DWTS...which they DID promote the snot out of, only to suddenly drop entirely when they realized she wasn't coming back.

  21. I wonder how much longer until people accept that Danielson is gone?

However long it is until he IS gone - last I checked, it's still 100% work.

Come talk to me in 90 days when he's in a TNA ring. (in case you haven't noticed, that's not going to happen, because he's going to be "back" in the WWE by then)

Also, this is what Jim Ross had to say about the idea that somebody on Linda's campaign had anything to do with Bryan being released: "I've heard some BS in my life and my share of conspiracy theories during my 4 decades in the wrestling business but this one ranks right up there with some of the stupidest theories I've ever heard... 22. I don't see anything there that indicates it's not a work. Like I said before the show, if they mention Daniel Bryan, you have your proof it's a work...and you heard what Wade Barrett said. They never have and never will mention people after their release. (see Carlito, most recently)

Somebody else mentioned this on another site...after Skip Sheffield's clothesline on Cena, Heath Slater grabs the ring rope and goes to choke Cena with it but stops suddenly. If he had been allowed to choke him with it for a minute, it would made this very interesting.
