  1. Urgh. Using those sorts of references are despicable, especially the same week your reference is back in the news for getting one of his very real convictions overturned. If he had said it about the WWE's previous owner, I'd be more forgiving because that monster can rightfully be compared to a fellow monster but brandishing the whole company with the same brush is unforgivable. Like GooverDan has already pointed out, it's not like his own hands are entirely clean either. Not only with the Kylie Rae allegations, but also the allegations surrounding Chris Jericho and the way he's seemingly ignored them too. Also, he can't pretend it was a "promo" and he was "in character" because isn't he supposed to be the sympathetic baby face who just got attacked right now? It's just horrendous.

And furthermore, it also stokes the tribalism which is a cancer on the sport. Why not just allow wrestling fans to enjoy wrestling without making it 'us against them'? It's tiring.

I also noticed that Kevin Nash has a 4-year contract with TNA. I always wondered why this was. I looked into it and everyone else I checked has a random expiration date, whereas his is hardcoded at 4, so I set it to random (just in case you wanted to add that in a future update, although it's a very minor detail). Anyway, time to get started on a new save!

I can't remember anything off the top of my head but I also don't think it's a mistake, because it's an unlikely one to make. I'd have to do some digging, but I probably read somewhere (or heard on a shoot interview/podcast) that Nash had signed a set contract for X number of years. It certainly wouldn't surprise me with Nash since he was very good at negotiating contracts, as we all know! 😂

I don't want to nitpick because of how greatly detailed this mod is (it's so good that it's actually ruined most other mods for me!). I was just wondering what the rationale is behind the new contract figures for Christian, Rhyno and the Dudleyz at TNA. At $500 a show on an exclusive deal, if they appear at both TV shows each week as well as the monthly event, they only make $4500 a month each. That seems extremely low, unless I'm missing something.

Firstly, thank you. Your praise means a lot!

Secondly, wages are random and not pre-set, so it's what the game has given them based on their popularity, the company they're working for, etcetera.

And lastly, I have no idea what the going rate for TNA was at the time. 😆 I did find this article from August, 2007 that suggests it's actually much lower than you might think, but it could be total nonsense. Your figures would work out at roughly $54,000 a year however and according to the New York Times, the average wage of America in 2006 was $46,996, so they'd be earning more than average. That's also not taking into account merchandise cuts and such like too, and the fact they were still allowed to work for their affiliates for extra income.

So overall, I'm not too fussed about the game putting them at $500 a show. The game mechanics obviously think that's where they should be and sometimes it's better to go along with the game mechanics because otherwise it can lead to money pits, and TNA weren't quite there yet in 2006. Obviously, if you think it's too low, you're more than welcome to change it. 👍

I imagine your computer just glitched out because it's quite a large file; all pictures are included and I ensure you there isn't any problem with the file. I'd encourage you to try redownloading just in case there is anything else that has been missed, but here you are anyway:

    AJPW

AJPW Champion Carnival.jpg AJPW GAORA TV.jpg AJPW Junior Heavyweight 01.jpg AJPW Junior Heavyweight 02.jpg

AJPW Junior League.jpg AJPW Junior Tag League.jpg AJPW Royal Road.jpg AJPW Triple Crown 01.jpg

PWF Heavyweight.jpg PWF Junior Heavyweight 01.jpg PWF Junior Heavyweight 02.jpg PWF World Tag Team.jpg

    Worlds Strongest Tag League.jpg

    NOAH

GHC Heavyweight.jpg GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team.jpg GHC Junior Heavyweight.jpg GHC Openweight Hardcore.jpg

    GHC Tag Team.jpg

EDIT: When you're saving, you're gonna have to rename the files slightly. "AJPWChampionCarnival.jpg.cac852b60755cbb7dd2327eaa5a22e54" should be "AJPW Champion Carnival" or "AJPW Champion Carnival.jpg", so insert spaces between the individual words and remove everything after ".jpg". If you don't do this, they won't be connected to the database properly.

Wrestling Society X doesn't open until February, 2006 - and the database starts in January, 2006. Therefore, I can only set them up as "Yet to Open". Simulate a month and they should open if that's all you're worried about. 👍

    India is inactive

This is by choice. Although it's very much playable now, I know a lot of people would still rather not have it activated - especially at the start of the data as Continental Wrestling Entertainment isn't yet active. Fortunately, each new game can be changed independently so should you, or anyone else, wish to have India active, then can do so.

    • NEO Women's Pro-Wrestling, IWA Mid-South should be an NWA Alliance Member ;
    • NJPW should also be a member of the NWA Alliance as Simon Kelly Inoki actually rejoined the alliance until his departure from the company. The exact month/year is unknown but it was between the start of ZERO1-MAX and of course, his departure from the promotion.
It all depends on you though as you might need to rebalance the game. Especially if NJPW overtakes TNA.
Maybe add the TNA titles and set them as retired? The AI should reactivate the title as soon as they aren't the N°1 Promotion in the alliance.

As far as I'm aware, NEO Women's Pro-Wrestling was never a member of the NWA. Or, if they did, it was only ever in this infancy and didn't last long at all. They did however own the NWA Women's Pacific Championship which was defended alongside the NEO Single Championship which is why you might be thinking otherwise. It's why the title didn't go back to the NWA when NEO folded in 2010, and hasn't been seen since. If you have countering evidence, I'd be happy to change it. 👍

Similarly, I don't believe IWA-Mid South was ever part of the NWA although they did work closely with them and their affiliates in the Mid West. They would often run shows together and even shared the NWA Midwest Women's and IWA-Mid South Women's Championships at some point, but they were always run under joint banners rather than just an NWA banner. It's like IWA-Mid South was too extreme to be an official member but drew in a regular enough audience that the affiliates around the same area couldn't ignore them.

I believe New Japan Pro-Wrestling was briefly reaffiliated with the NWA in the late-2000s to the early-2010s, but I don't believe they were reaffiliated at the start of 2006 because I can't find anything that states otherwise. I know they were working closely with TNA at this point though (hence the relationship) so it could have almost been the gateway.

Akitoshi Saito, Kenta Kobashi should be loyal to NOAH

Akitoshi Saito briefly left NOAH in 2012. Although he went back when they offered him a better contract in 2014, I wouldn't say he was totally loyal to them. Kenta Kobashi is also really tough because it's hard to say if he would have remained loyal to them had he not suffered his serious injury in 2009. With the messy way he eventually left NOAH and the way he always flirted with his original home in the form of AJPW, I think it's better if he doesn't have any loyalty. That way, there's always that "what if" in games.

Can we have the NWA World Women's Championship in the NWA since we have women wrestling in the alliance ?

Sure, it wasn't being defended regularly by any stretch of the imagination, but I can add it in. Fingers crossed users get far more use out of it than the NWA did in real life! 😆

An alliance should be englobing the Mexican National Championships and including both Mexican promotions because of how the title were used at that time (still are quite honestly)

These are nigh on impossible to replicate in TEW. While I agree that they ultimately get moved around both the major two in Mexico and also the other independent promotions, they're done so in a semi-ownership way. They've never actually been "alliance" titles and are instead semi-owned by one promotion for a number of years before moving on to the next highest bidder. As all of that is impossible to simulate as they're essentially owned by a third party, it's just easier to set them up as I have done so. Both users and the AI can ultimately fill in any gaps, if there even are any since the major promotions also have their own titles without the Mexican National Championships.

Okay, here is Version 3.00 of Shifting Sands. If you've been following along, I've pretty much announced everything that's new but for those of you that haven't, here's what to expect in this update:

    • I have added over 500 workers to not only add to the start of the data, but to ensure it's long-term playability.

    • I've added agers, narratives, and improved the quality and consistency of the picture pack.

    • I've added Wrestling Society X, GLEAT, Big Japan Pro Wrestling, Continental Wrestling Entertainment and the International Wrestling Revolution Group to companies, again improving both the starting data and longer term games.

    • I have added more Free Pictures (bringing it to 100) with help from @macca87.

    • I've added more venues for Japan, India and Mexico.

    • I've added more Training Facilities with the inclusion of the "One Fall Power Factory", "CWE Academy", "Animal Hamaguchi Training Gym" and "Create A Pro Wrestling Academy".

    • And, finally, I have expanded upon India to make it playable. This includes - as I've already mentioned - the inclusion of Continental Wrestling Entertainment which opens in January, 2015, and various locations. It also includes new broadcasters and a deal with World Wrestling Entertainment, which has allowed me to give workers popularity in the area.

As many of you know, I still have a very large list of names that I'm looking to add but as that would have pushed this back by months, I've instead found a workable cut off point that allows people to get to grips with the update. As always, if you'd like to buy me a bottle of Coke (I don't drink coffee) for my work, you'll find the information below. Please enjoy yourselves and experience an era of professional wrestling that still lingers in a lot of our memories.

they should all be under written deals anyway.

I haven't looked into it recently so my memory could be incorrect, but I don't believe TNA were handing out exclusive contracts at this time - which is why they don't have any written contracts. Pretty much their entire roster were also working on the independents, including said names. Again, if my memory is serving me right, it wasn't until about 2009 that TNA started handing them out. They obviously weren't working for other big name promotions and I wouldn't be surprised if there was something in their contracts that reflected this, but there's unfortunately no way to simulate that sort of thing in TEW.

I've taken Jaysin's advice and gave them simmering tension with McMahon, and hopefully that'll solve the issue.

Any news on the update? Been enjoying a mini-playthrough recently but waiting to see how close you are before taking a deep dive.

The number now stands at over 500, I've added Continental Wrestling Entertainment, more venues for India, the "CWE Academy" and "Animal Hamaguchi Training Gym", and expanded upon India in all facets to make it playable. Right now, I'm working more on Japan and Mexico because a large percentage of that 500 are more geared towards North America and I don't want the modification to become unbalanced. Believe it or not, I have still got quite the list to work on however and process has been agonisingly slow recently as I've become a little obsessed with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Hopefully I'll complete it soon and be able to speed the process back up again. Once I feel it's more balanced and people are continually debuting around the world, I'll be releasing. 👍

Wow, if you've only played the original then there should be plenty of new names. There were over 500 names added in the last update alone. I'd always suggest you use updates as beyond workers, they'll also include fixes and other improvements. You can find the latest update in the original post if you can't find it in the thread itself for any reason.

Have always wondered where MOD makers find Contract information from? More lengths rather than amounts, any tips for this? Many Thanks

I can only echo what Jaysin and Idol said, but also don't be afraid of using TEW's random. Most people aren't remotely bothered by this particular statistic because they rarely know themselves how long a wrestler was contracted for. So allowing the game itself to just randomise an end date makes your life a lot easier and it also means every game will be different.

  14. It can be a daunting task making a modification from scratch, so feel free to use my 2006 modification (Click Here) as a base if you'd prefer. It should make life a lot easier.

For finding rosters, I find Wrestling Data the easiest to navigate, personally. If you search for a certain promotion, you can click "Roster" and then filter it to your required timeframes. So for example, you can see here the roster for World Wrestling Entertainment in January, 2007. You'll still need to go through it properly to remove jobbers who were just making a one off appearance and you'll have to do further research for injured workers and such like, but I find it the best way to give you a general overlook of the roster at the time.

Best of luck with this. It's a difficult task but it can be really rewarding. 👍

  15. Just for the record, I don't discredit peoples anger or unhappiness. I was simply expressing my opinion that I believe it's a work, and I wasn't defending it.

If indeed it is a work, then I would argue that it's done its job though. Like all forms of entertainment, professional wrestling is there to make its audience feel something. And that doesn't always mean it should be a positive emotion - especially at first. The 'E wanted more eyes on the product leading up to WrestleMania (as they always do) which The Rock brings, and they wanted the crowd to reinvest in Cody Rhodes because, like Self said, they haven't really done anything since last year. They've done both. For everybody who is angered or upset, how happy are they going to be if Cody "finishes the story" at 'Mania? Storytelling is simple sometimes. The lower the low, the higher the high. Triple H more or less spelled it out at last years WrestleMania press conference: "the story never changes".

  16. It's a work. The fact guys like Ricochet and Logan Paul have added to the hysteria on social media more or less confirms it. They wouldn't openly criticise booking without being given the green light to do so. It's very savvy asking Logan Paul - there biggest social media star - to stir the pot too. It's going to be interesting to see how they do it from here, but I don't see anything other than Cody beating Reigns at WrestleMania now.

Does anyone know how far down the line there are wrestlers to debut? Are we able to play this from 1970 all the way to the 2020's or does it stop somewhere before then?

If this is as in depth as the first post, I expect this to be the best real world mod of this itteration of TEW. Really sounds like you've done incredible work, @Mammoth

You'll have debuting real world workers through until present day but they obviously become more sparse as time progresses. The 80s and 90s are very playable as there are a ton of debuting workers, but the 2000s and later are less so - even though major names like John Cena, Batista, Adam Cole, Adam Page, Shinsuke Nakamura etcetera debut.

The Shifting Sands update (set in 2006, if you didn't know) I'm currently working on covers these dates though and as they're both made by me, the statistics and such like work very well together so if you're so inclined, you could easily import things from that to fill it any potential holes in later years of Territory Daze.

Thank you very much for your kind comments. There's certainly a lot of detail in there. I know the time period puts some people off but you really don't need to know the time period to enjoy this modification as I include a hell of a lot of information in descriptions and biographies to give you all the backstory one needs. I hope you enjoy your playthrough and please feel free to let me know just how far you get. :)

I've seen people suggesting Truth get a shot somehow and I'd love that. I know it lacks the big fight feel of Rollins vs Punk, but the match could be a lot of fun.

I also know it'd never happen, especially at Mania.

This wouldn't work now if Cody is indeed set to battle Rollins because people would crap all over it if Cody doesn't walk out of Mania with a title, but I was thinking they might do something with Damian Priest and R-Truth given the Judgement Day storyline. Have Priest cash in on the winner of Rollins versus X and win the title, and then have Truth come out with a random briefcase that he claims is a Money in the Bank briefcase to steal the title. It would capitalise on Truth's popularity and give him a good send off as he obviously nears retirement, and Priest could obviously win it back on the following RAW too to give him his heat back - and his deserved run as champ. It would have been fun and one of those feel good moments Mania is made for.

So would you rather it was a blanket yes or no? I'm not really sure how that works and would be any good for the community.

Roguey can speak for himself (and I'm sure he will) but I don't think he was suggesting that you'd "shut the door" on all permissions, I think he was speaking only in terms of the abandonware proposal. But if you ask me, a "blanket yes" would be better for the community... but that's by the by.

    1 hour ago, Lucas said:

Going even further back before even I worked on mods, permission was sought from the original creators to carry on the work, or for other people to come in and contribute to things like Venues, Title Histories, etc. That just seems fair and showing courtesy and decency to others. That was generally the forum rules here, and I think that was more than fair to everyone. We all do this stuff for free.

As Roguey's post outlined, that is still the rule and will be forevermore.

    1 hour ago, Lucas said:

Quite why though there needs to be a change to the rules, I'm not really sure. Why is there a suggestion of just declaring stuff abandonware?

As Adam outlined in his original post: "A few people have contacted us recently to ask if we'd consider making a policy with regard to some mods being designated abandonware; that is, if a project appears to be dead and the maker is no longer active and so can't give permission, that other users can be allowed to take the data and work on it."

It's not just "declaring stuff abandonware", it's giving people the opportunity to work on modifications they used to love but can no longer enjoy because the modification hasn't been updated, and the original creator of said modification is no longer around to give permission. As Adam outlined in the opening post, it's not just as simple as them not being on the GreyDog Software boards neither, as you must prove that you've also searched the rest of the internet and the various other boards to ensure they're not still working on said modification elsewhere. It's potentially giving people the opportunity to bring back modifications from the past that are otherwise dead to the sands of time, which can only be a good thing.

There is generally a lot of work (a ridiculous amount actually, by hand) in upgrading mods from one version to the next due to the scope of changes a TEW version usually brings. In some cases it might actually make sense to just redo them from scratch a lot of the time.

When we did TEW16 mods, I actually developed tooling to facilitate new features' conversion in the game. We had thousands of workers with the (then new) based in regions, spread across at least half a dozen mods. Huge amount of work by hand. But we were apply to apply specific changes to multiple mods simultaneously. The problem we had in quality control of the mods, was without this, you had an email bomb when starting a new game with thousands of workers moving across the game. There were a lot of other parts of mod making this sort of work applied to Genadi's mods, Hive, Justin and more.

Another example of lots of work - Personality changes in TEW20. To get something like this right is a lot of time of understanding it, researching it and then applying it as well (see above). You'll likely find some stuff can't be accurately researched so it might actually make sense to remove people from the mod for the sake of playability. The previous implementation worked differently, so the conversion wasn't going to be understandably perfect with personality traits. So you might find as a mod maker, to get this right you need to make wide ranging changes that affect the scope of the mod. It can be overwhelming, but at least starting from scratch can make things easier to build up, rather than revising every record in the game.

I agree wholeheartedly that it's a lot of work to upgrade modifications from one version to the next (I actually already referenced it in an earlier post in this very thread) but I'm not sure I accept your premise that starting from scratch would be easier. "Revising every record in the game" is a lot easier than 'creating every record in the game' because the chances are at least some of the information has already transferred correctly. For example, contracts to companies, move sets, relationships, base skills, gimmicks, venues, TV shows, events, titles, title histories, tag teams etcetera, etcetera would all be exactly the same through simple conversion. That's a hell of a lot of work that may not be perfect but is a hell of a lot easier to work with than starting from scratch. So what this proposal is suggesting is that it's no longer necessary to start from scratch as long as the modification that "person A" wants to reproduce meets all the criteria outlined in the proposal itself.

Plus, as I presume you're a member of the "Mod Squad", your 'scratch' may be completely different to someone who chooses to update an abandoned modification. For example, as part of the team, you can simply import a lot of what you need from one modification to another whereas someone starting from actual 'scratch' would need to gain permission from as many people as they could or use freeware just to import the basics to then rework it to their desired time period.

We don't know them, don't know what work has gone into it, whether it is correct and works well.

On the contrary, any one who has asked for permission, gets feedback and/or assistance with their mods, we work with them. That's still the case today.

    Why though?

I'm not being snarky or anything, but I just don't get it. If someone takes an "abandoned" modification, does work on it to make it playable for a newer edition of TEW and releases it for others to enjoy... why does it matter if it's "correct" and "works well" if people are enjoying it? In your case, they'd be stupid to claim it was a release from the "Mod Squad" if it wasn't because they'd soon be found out, so it's not like it would sully your guys reputation or anything. Similarly, if all they've done is run it through the conversion process and release it without any editing, people would soon pull them up on that - as has always been the case when people have attempted it in the past. If you're no longer working on it and nor updating for newer versions of TEW and you're actively working on the same modification for an entirely different game, why not just allow any Tom, Dick or Harry to take on the responsibility as long as credit is rightfully given? I'd personally see it as a compliment if someone was so connected to what I had done that they wanted to continue what I had started. Why let all that time and hard work potentially go to waste on the off-chance someone goes through, from what I understand, the tough task of getting a hold of a member of the "Mod Squad" to ask permission? Why make it that complicated instead of just giving permission to anybody who is willing? The board, as it has always done, will soon separate the modifications that have actually been updated to a good standard and those that haven't.
