1. Awesome. PM if you need anything or I can help. Creating the event results is a killer..
 2.

I'd hope so, but if the potential was truly randomized that would kinda kill the mod for me. I love this 1997 mod because I start off and take control of PRIDE before PRIDE 1. Then I run PRIDE the whole time from Rickson/Takada and I try to build Takada back up for a rematch right before Rickson retires (which is hard 'cause he retires fast if he loses).

In my last game, GSP did become a journeyman. I threw him to the wolves right away and he never got a chance to develop. Matt Brown wound up being the "GSP" of that game at welterweight.

Meanwhile I got Takada into the hall of fame through booking techniques. So you can already achieve that level of variance without artificially randomizing it is all I was saying.

One other thing about this Mod. Pride isn’t available in Jan 97, as they weren’t in real life. It’s on of a few changes I have made. Another couple include the true start dates of fighters with zero records and more up to date company information. WEC’s Mod has some fighters start later with a record and have them have a reputation etc. Everyone who is yet to debut starts at 0-0. There are plenty of places for them to fight and develop.

One thing people may not like is the fact that it uses organic fighter information. While this does remove some of the final details about fighters which I do like, I want consistency. If someone is up for writing profiles for 2600 - 2700 fighter then I’m open to considering it. The only thing I may do is use Wikipedia and copy some bits and pieces. But only if I feel it’s needed and time allows.

Once the kids are in bed tonight, i’m Playing Fallout 76, after that I will continue with the Mod.

First of all thanks for working on this mod, it sounds really exciting and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Time pressure is never a good thing and I know from personal experience that a happy modder is a good modder. Just take your time and release it whenever you think it's ready.

Cheers Dude

 4. I didn't choose to change this mod as a complete historical playthrough. I wanted to make it an accurate representation of the MMA world in 1997. If people debut after Jan 1997 then they start at zero potential. This is because history is not yet written. That said, I have been playing through it as the MOD sits at the moment and to be honest there haven't been any massive shocks. I'm currently in Ocotober 2003 and Wanderlei Silva (21-3), Cro Cop (8-0), Arlovski (12-0), are all pretty strong. As is Anderson Silva (18-2), Matt Hughes (14-2), Chuck Liddell (11-2). THe only ones that have been a little different would be Gary Imes (10-1-1) who has won my Super Heavyweight Title against some strong competition. Update. I am still working on it, there was a really knowledgeable helpful guy helping me but he has stuff going on and I haven't heard from him for a while. I am still going through fighters one by one, but I'm beginning to think that WEC's data was really good in that area so I may leave it and update it every once in a while from feedback on here, and because I hate things being in accurate when I find them. I should stop giving a timeframe as that sets me up to fail. Rest assured it will still be released, but it may be a while.

I don't claim any ownership or whatever on my mods, no need for asking permission (I'm not around as much as I used to be). I wouldn't have been able to get mine off the ground without other people's work. They're free for anyone to tinker away with and re-release in whatever format you choose, within reason of course (no political statement mods)

Awesome. When it's released I hope it meets your approval <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

It's taking ages.

 6.
Currently, by Christmas is not looking likely. I do have a lot of time off over the festive period, so will be working away on it then. So will state that end of Jan is the current date.

Will provide a better detailed update tonight. Someone else has joined, and has done some excellent work regarding accuracy, so it will be even better than I imagined.

Question. Are you positive on the whole change potential to 0 thing?

Unless there’s a compelling argument not to, or it throws up some weird stuff during testing, Yes.

All the fighters stats are in there, it’s how they fulfill them it should effect. McGregor will still be knocking low level people out, but at the top echelons he may not be as effective, Or he could become even better. In 1997, their futures are not yet written. Who am I to judge how good they become?

I like a little unpredictability personally.

A public testing build perhaps?

Apologies, missed this post. I’m not sure is the honest answer. I wanted to have it done by Christmas, and that is going to be difficult. Every time I think that I have gotten closed to the finishing point, something happens to make me rethink it.

For instance, in the last month, added 6 more events, 50-60 more results, approx 60 more fighters. I have almost finished going through debuted fighters, but that will take me a few more hours. I need to go through the companies in more detail as I haven’t touched anything yet.

Next I need to go through numerous test saves as I don’t like the starting finances, I need to decide when I start the Mod, Jan 1997 or March 1997 after UFC 12. If I start in March I need to add another 10-15 events and maybe another 100 fight results.

I also need to consider pictures, have a few ideas, but not sure yet.

I would like a couple of people to test/look over it, then i’ll Release it. I’m sure I will have missed stuff and will be required to re edit things once it is released so it may never truly be finished, just constantly updated.

On a side note as a possible spoiler, I may release two versions. One for Jan, and one for March so people can choose when to play.

PM me the details and I'll get right on it. I've recently found myself with a lot of free time after a chainsaw accident at work (I'll spare the details...all in all I'll be fine...just damaged my hand...I'll recover fully) so it'll give me a project to work on while the wife's at work all day. Just give me a complete list and I'll do my best to secure the rule sets and weight classes from 1997. Talk to you soon.

I will do it once my daughter is in bed. Sorry to hear about the accident, I wouldn’t even trust myself with a drill.....

 10.

What companies? I have over 3500 MMA events in my fight library, a lot of which are from 1993-2000 and even some that pre-date 1993. I can consult my library to verify the rule sets and weight classes of any organization I have on file.

That would be amazing if you could do that. Shall I DM you the details? I can't do it now as away from Computer. Will have to be tomorrow. That ok?

I'm looking at things like Brazilian Vale Tudo, Desafio, Extreme Challenge, IAFC, HooknShoot.

Basically I have every event listed in Sherdog in the database now, with a lot of the companies from around that time, so I'm looking for weight classes as they would have been from Jan 97.

Any help you can provide would be brilliant. COuld serve as a guide for other Real World Mods in the future too.

 11. I'm trying to find out the weight divisions and rules of some early MMA companies. Does anybody have any suggestions where I can research this?
 12. Can anyone suggest a good website that I can use to embed images? Want to show some updates..
 13.

I can't remember if it's the Pride vs. UFC mod or the Dawn of MMA, but I cut a bunch of company logos from the early days of MMA. You are welcome to any of those you can find.

Cheers Tag, would you be interested in taking a look at my database at some point. Having done a lot of modding, your opinion would be most welcome.

 14. Testing I may be wanting a couple of people to help test this out in 2/3 weeks time. Currently going through all debuted fighters to make sure they are correct and putting in various changes (currently on M). I've not changed too much as I don't know a lot about the creation of fighters and the impacts of various things. If anyone wants to help then please let me know on here or DM me. Does anyone know of a guide to creating pictures etc. I'd at least like to get the all the companies to have the correct pictures which means I probably have to research them. It won't be a full Pic Pack, but will be the start of something hopefully. As it stands, the game seems to run ok, the only thing I've noticed is that all the companies seem to break even at a a bare minimum while most make money so I am looking at drastically reducing the starting funds. At the moment Pride starts with $50,000,000, while that may be historically accurate, it means that they'll never end up in a position to be bought. I'm thinking off giving them a $1,000,000 so they can't go stupid and sign every great fighter at whatever pay they want. They can still be a success, but at the same time with the wrong conditions could still go out of business. Obviously people can edit it with any amount they want, but I want the chance that companies overspend and go out of business to be a possibility. There are about 15 companies at the outset and I'm tempted to create one more. so there are plenty of places to fight, with about 400 fighters from day one. Almost all of these are standard contracts which I feel is correct because people did swap and change a lot back then compared to now.
 15.

Excited for this. Wondering if you'll include some non MMA fighters like boxers, Olympic wrestlers, pro wrestlers and such. With the new features in this version I think those would be cool additions.

To be honest probably not. For one I have finished creating/entering fighters I think. Secondly, I'm trying to create an accurate screenshot of the time and back then there weren't boxers etc trying to get in to MMA.

 16.

Just a thought, but would giving them negative cash & negative momentum be enough? I don't believe there's a specific narrative to shut down a company, is there?

I wasn’t to sure to be honest. For some of the smaller comapanies I was just going to give a smaller amount of cash and run a few tests to see what happened. I wouldn’t give negative cash, because no one who picks a minor company wants to start with a minus balance but ideally you want it to be more of a challenge.

 17.
Finally.....

I have entered the results for 210 different fight cards that I have been able to find. This has resulted in 53 Tournament wins, 1437 Fight Results.

I have also increased to 124 Achievements spread over 2529 fighters.

Current Situation

Currently going through all the debuted fighters to make sure they are all completely filled out with any information I can find. I have almost finished fighters starting with B.

Next I want to research the companies a little more. I have imported a few, but fell I need to redo some of them, they all seem to have a decent amount of starting cash (i think too much), but some of the companies going in 1996/1997 were out of business by 1998 and I feel this should be reflected so want to run some tests once this is complete. This will probably then affect the narratives and increase them.

I then need to make some decisions around the Hall of Fame and Eras, plus the lack of a dedicated Picture Pack. I still wish that someone would take on the picture packs that are in existence and create one all singing and dancing pack that can be used by any modmaker.

I still want it completed by Christmas but there is no specific deadline at the moment.

I then in the future may look at creating a 1998 mod which has Pride already running. As this is set from Jan 1997 (currently) Pride wont be available from the start.

I am also thinking of having this Mod start slightly later so UFC 12 is completed as there were wide scale changes implemented from that date. But would welcome opinions.

It's 5:30 am where I am, so I am going to switch the game off, have some breakfast and get ready for work.

 19.
I have been thinking that because WEC had already done 1997, is it worth me looking at 1998 instead? I could probably do 98 and 99 as 98 would be a build on top of 1997 and then 99 would be a build on on top of 1998.

If I could work out how to do a poll, I would put it out there. Potentially i could also go back to 1996 instead?

 20. Update I have added another 15 Fighters, 3 more shows, approximately 150 more fight results, although I did have to redo some as well. Also found a couple more Tournament wins to add in.
 21. Good News. Where my copy of the game had broken, Adam has told me how to resolve it, so I plan on doing some more over the weekend. I hope to have the Fight Results completed soon and then I can start looking at the fighters specifically.

Holding off purchase until this is released

I wouldn't sit and wait for release. The game crashed and now won't load, before that any saves related to it wouldn't load. Therefore I am unable to do anything with it currently. Hopefully Adam will be able to sort the problem out.

To be honest the original 1997 Mod is more than playable, I just wanted to expand it, then use it as a base for a couple of other Mods..

 23. I’m also thinking that when this completed, maybe jumping a year or two ahead or a year too before too give players more choice.
