But thank you for pointing that out. There's still a minor issue there in the in-game promotions screen, though, as it takes three clicks of "tab" to get to scroll through the promotions themselves as the submenu therein for the workers for each promotion is the highlighted window (another click of tab is needed to get to scroll through the promotions one-by-one). </p><p> </p><p> And I agree with your annoyance, particularly since the sort of arrow navigation I'm looking for isn't really much of an option within the database editor itself.</p>

But it doesn't happen. A match rated on "Eye Candy"/"Sex Appeal" will always necessarily be restricted, both in-game and in real life, unless you're running a promotion where that's your <em>sole </em>focus.<p> </p><p> Penalised doesn't mean that the match is rejected outright, just that you're working against expectation. But, of course, that was a common somewhat minor complaint I've had with the series since I first played TEW 2005 because I understand at least some of the development issues it would cause to change that.</p><p> </p><p> BTW, I never argued this:</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="47578" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>So much of the criticism of <strong>not being "able" to book certain matches</strong> I honestly feel comes down to people overestimating what constitutes a segment being "penalised".</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> My complaint is that while I am able to book those matches, I am penalized for doing so within a product where there really should not be a penalty for doing so. I mean, hell, that was an era where <em>Sable</em> got more cheers <em>during her "matches"</em> than a lot of the actual <em>good</em> brawlers during theirs (like, say, Farooq pre-ABA taking off).</p><p> </p><p> Regardless, though, it really all comes down to this:</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="southside_hitmen" data-cite="southside_hitmen" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="47578" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><p> Now, you get ONLY that product that someone else made. It is indeed a dealbreaker.</p><p> </p><p> Right off the bat I realized that it would present an issue with making a new version of my TEW2016 AWA 1988 real world save, because that was a strange time where the women's division there was getting a bit more risque (lingerie battle royal at SuperClash III, Madusa getting spanked during a match, etc.) without being egregious and there was more blood flowing in their shows but with the fans that they had left still appreciative of good lengthy technical matches and old school family friendly hokey characters and angles that were played legit and not as parody.</p><p> </p><p> There is no real option for that sort of product.</p><p> </p><p> Also, if I may point this out: since when were eye candy matches ever really penalized by <em>fans</em> (aside from Meltzer) in the rl Attitude Entertainment product of that era?</p><p> </p><p> But, yeah...not being able to tweak or modify or create my own products...that's a dealbreaker.</p><p> </p><p> I'm not going to go too deep into the UI issues and UI navigation issues as they've been mentioned, they are real, and they are a problem. I will state that arrow key navigation is a must for me (and as an aside: is it completely impossible to allow for "opening" of items to be done via the enter key? I still don't know why total keyboard navigation isn't an option with such a text heavy game, but perhaps it is impossible to have that). A shift back to the "when opening a part of the database, the first option is highlighted" to allow for arrow key navigation would be nice. Especially in the screens with the promotions. </p><p> </p><p> If the idea was letting us be able to do things with fewer clicks, then why do I have to click <em>more</em> when just wanting to read through the promotion details in the promotion selection screen when starting a new game? Same for the choosing of an avatar, worker, etc., etc., etc. We were able to see all of that via simply scrolling one by one through the names with the down arrow key, again, because the first option was highlighted. Why the shift away from that?</p>
  4. Not a mod creator by any means (insofar as released mods; I do occasionally modify those that are released for my own personal use), but I am a superhero comic fan and am open to assisting in whatever small way I can.

One question I do have is how do you think you'll handle different era versions of the characters? I can see it being handled one of two ways:

    1. Historical variations where the newer versions are essentially legacy workers that are "unofficially" regenerates of the original. So the Golden Age Superman created in 1939 is long gone, but each new version is a new version "born" at a different time.

    2. Multiverse. That Golden Age Superman? Still exists in a separate promotion (Golden Age DC) and the other versions each exist in their own promotions as well (Silver Age DC, Modern Age DC, New52, etc.).

  5. I should also mention:

House shows were indeed a much bigger deal in those eras, and the TV shows were indeed used to advertise those house shows (and later on the big Closed Circuit and PPV shows). Since we can't book house shows, per se, in the current TEW games, the workaround I use is to set up weekly or monthly non-televised "house show" events and use the TV shows to "advertise" those.

Such a workaround worked better in previous TEW games before 2016, IMO, as I would then pre-book the cards either as the currently airing shows were being graded/reviewed or right after the shows. I did this because advanced booking in the older TEW games worked as actual advertising for future shows in-game, so if you booked a match in advance that was coming off a hot angle it would spark higher ticket sales. That doesn't happen in TEW 2016, to my knowledge (I could be wrong), so I just kinda "imagine" it does.

  6. Yes, I know that TV was a big deal. :)

I should rephrase what I meant. TV wasn't quite the anchor it is in today's wrestling. Back in the day, TV shows were comprised by highlights from house shows taped all over the world. Accompanied by pre-taped interviews and promos. In TEW, highlight shows are only available for touring companies.

Eh...that's not entirely correct. At least not for the '80s and early '90s.

While there were highlight shows, the syndicated shows of the promotions back in the day weren't typically highlight shows. The highlight shows, for the most part, aired on cable.

For example, neither the A and B WWF shows at the time (WWF Superstars of Wrestling, which you mentioned, and WWF Wrestling Challenge) were highlight shows. They were taped in a single arena which changed week to week (as the shows were on the loop), and did indeed feature angles - sometimes major angles at that. Hell, just about the entire card for WrestleMania III was built up on Superstars and, to a lesser extent, Challenge (it was the B show, after all), from the "Steamboat got his larynx crushed by Randy Savage" angle to the build up to Andre vs. Hogan.

The highlight shows for WWF were both on USA Network: Prime Time Wrestling and All-American Wrestling. The cable shows back in those days, with few exceptions, were actually less important than the syndicated shows because syndication was much wider reaching (loads of folks didn't have cable). And that's setting aside that Prime Time itself was essentially a highlight show of matches that aired live (or live to tape) as monthly specials on regional sports channels (MSG Network aired WWF cards every other month, as did PRISM in Philly, NESN in Boston, and later on, The Z Channel in Los Angeles).

The two exceptions to that rule were Crockett Promotions' World Championship Wrestling on TBS (the Saturday 6:05 show that later became WCW Saturday Night) and AWA Championship Wrestling on ESPN. But with the former, there were caveats: NWA Pro and World Wide Wrestling (the two syndicated JCP/NWA shows taped on the road) were where the big angles happened, with the TBS show mainly having highlights of the angles from those shows with original matches taped at the studio. But sometimes the TBS show was where big parts of angles originated in the latter '80s, and that became more pronounced after Turner bought the promotion (when the TBS show absolutely became the A show). With AWA, it was a matter of them losing so much of their syndication to Vince that only the ESPN show was on a truly national level.

As for interviews: some were "pre-taped" (that is, taped away from the audience on another set), but some were shot live to tape in front of that audience (because, really, none of the shows were live).

As for approach to TV for mods of previous era: while not a mod maker, I do often find myself editing and adding to mods myself for personal use. What I tend to do is set up what were the A and B shows in "real life" (or what passes for it) as the A and B shows in the game, and essentially give up on the idea of highlight shows/C shows because those aren't really possible as of yet in TEW outside of touring promotions (and even then, those shows can't be named/titled for some reason which I've never understood). If I'm really hankering for what were the highlight/C shows in reality to be there, I just change them to non-highlight B shows but show more some more "highlights" (via the highlight angle) than I would on the other shows. So, for example, in my edit of a 1987 mod, I've got WWF Superstars of Wrestling as the A show airing in syndication, WWF Wrestling Challenge as the B show in syndication, and changed WWF Prime Time Wrestling from a highlight show into a full B show with it's own matches (the idea being that USA Network forced the change on WWF) and show some highlights of angles that "aired" on Superstars and/or Challenge.

Of course, the problem there is that B shows don't really move the needle on popularity, but that's okay because, again, cable had far less viewers at the time compared to syndication anyway.

  7. <p>Also, minor quibble:</p><p> </p><p>

A lot of the Mexican networks in your database have coverage in Puerto Rico. This isn’t accurate for a variety of reasons. Puerto Rico gets the major American networks and the American Spanish language stations due to local affiliates in that area. I’ve noticed this issue in other mods. I’m guessing it’s a desire to have promotions in Mexico and/or Puerto Rico potentially extend their reach beyond their areas. In the case of desire to expand via coverage, there’s more logical ways about it. Some Mexican broadcast channels seep into southern parts of states like Texas, Arizona, and California (and vice versa, btw).</p>

  9. <p>Thanks! Just downloaded it and looking over it now.</p><p> </p><p>

Great to see the over-the-air subscription services I mentioned before have been added. And since you did ask for feedback on any other issues, I'll point out some things I noticed in passing:</p><p> </p><p>

The TSN logo you have in the picture folder wasn't in use until the late '90s or early '00s, iirc, after ESPN bought a minority stake in the company (indeed, the then-new logo uses the same design as ESPN's). The logo up to that point was different. You can find it on logopedia, which is an invaluable resource for this sort of thing (I've used it myself when making my own edits to databases).</p><p> </p><p>

On the subject of TSN, they were originally a paid (subscription) network (or at least the Canadian equivalent of that). They became a basic (commercial) cable channel there in '88, which saw their viewership increase from "1 million potential viewers to 5 million" (according to the source in the wikipedia article). Unfortunately you can't change a broadcaster in the database from subscription to commercial, but the way I had it in my own prior edits to databases was to set them up as commercial from their launch with a small footprint across Canada, and then in '88 increase their footprint (from either very small to small, or small to medium, I forget which).</p><p> </p><p>

Another note: SCORE (that is the SCORE that aired as part of FNN) wasn't a subscription service, but commercial.</p><p> </p><p>

And you're also missing some stations that were (and still are for some DISH users) regional superstations like WWOR, WPIX, and KTLA. Each had history airing pro wrestling. Like WGN, all of those stations split up their national and local broadcast feeds after the Syndex rules went into effect in '89.</p>

  10. <p>Dunno if this is just an issue for me, but there are missing logos and such for 1.05 for active promotions in my game:</p><p> </p><p>

Tatiana and Twinkle don’t have movesets. If that is the case for the rest of you, what moves should I give them?</p><p> </p><p>

Also, there’s missing logos for these TV shows:</p><p> </p><p>

    AWF Aftershock</p><p>

    CLLM Guerreros del Ring</p><p>

    CWE Continental TV</p><p>

    DIASPORA on Future Network TV</p><p>

    DRAGON Wrestling from Above</p><p>

    GBWF Saturday Afternoon Wrestling</p><p>

    HCG Star Slam</p><p>

    HONOUR All Japan Wrestling</p><p>

    ILL Ataque!</p><p>

The Club Presents: The Fighting Zone</p><p>

UPJ Legends of the ring </p><p> </p><p>

HCG is also missing event logos.</p><p> </p><p>

Are those logos missing for the rest of you? If not, where can I find them? If so, does anyone know of a user who has created then on their own? I suppose I could do them myself, but if there are things already done by others that are good (and that would undoubtedly be better than I can muster, tbqh), I’d greatly appreciate a head’s up.</p><p> </p><p>

    Thanks in advance.</p>

  11. <p>Just wanted to thank you for the work you put in. I downloaded the demo for TEW 2016, and immediately searched for a TVerse update. Loved playing it for 13, usually in 2-3 player mode (which I always wind up doing for spurts in TEW for some reason), but unlike the CVerse and other mods, with your mod I always find myself straying from my usual go-to set-up (1 sports entertainment, 1 traditional, 1 modified by myself). Typically pick The Club, Wrestlasaurus, and PWSUX with this one.</p><p> </p><p>

I do have one quibble that I had with the 13 version, though:</p><p> </p><p>

The PR promotions having a "lucha libre" product in the Mexican sense. As someone with family from both areas who grew up watching both styles (along with the mainland US stuff), while it's called lucha in PR it <em>really</em> isn't all that similar to Mexican lucha libre at all and bears more of a resemblance to the mainland US stuff overall. Characters aren't as "colorful", there's far less masks, less gymnastics, and there's a bit more "edge" and roughness to both the in-ring and outside-the-ring product. For a while there it was basically southern-style "rasslin'" with a more hardcore edge (the most common mask was a crimson mask <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />), and over the years with the heavy WWF/E influence quite a bit of that style of sports entertainment creeped in as well. Granted, there's been some Mexican style luchadores over the years in the PR promotions (and vice versa), but not enough to be anything more than a relatively minor influence that simply provides the occasional change of pace from the norms of those areas' scenes.</p><p> </p><p>

I mean, it's a relatively small quibble I chalk up to this being an alternate universe, but it kinda stands out to me with my background and all. I've never played as either of the PR promotions in the game (and now that I think of it I might not have done that with <strong>any</strong> of the universes), but I gather if I do I'd greatly decrease the lucha libre aspect of the product and greatly increase the hardcore aspect.</p><p> </p><p>

Other than that, though, like I stated, really loving it so far just as I enjoyed it in 13. Might have to shell out for 16 after all....</p>
