I think one thing the TEW series has consistently lacked, for me, has been the depth with non-wrestlers.
You have to have them, but they really don't live up to the potential of their purpose / importance (outside of announcers).
I'd love to see the role categories revamped a tad... I'd have them set as Wrestler, On-Screen Personality, Broadcaster, Backstage Staff as being the main four.
Within that I'd split it a tad... Wrestler would be Full-Time / Part-Time. There needs to be more of a difference between the Full Time and Part Time guys... as of now, Occasional Wrestlers can be used as much as Full Time with no issue. These are the guys that should be asking to not work house shows and whatnot... the full time ones shouldn't have that issue at all, regardless of age.
On Screen Personalities... this is where you would have your Manager, Valet, Bodyguard, Authority Figure and Referees. Managers are meant to have high Charisma and Mic skills, Valets are meant to have a good look and sex appeal, Bodyguards are meant to be menacing. Authority Figures are all about entertainment and charisma, and Referees speak for themselves.
This category should allow for an easier time to convince them to get in the ring for a one off or short series of matches (unless they have the Never Wrestles attribute).
For Broadcasters... this is where you have your Commentator, Colour Commentator, Ring Announcer and Interviewer. Their skills speak for themselves (though I'd add Ring Announcing as a new skill). They should be eligible to negotiate doing a one of match, but it should be a difficult thing to convince them.
Finally Backstage Staff is where you'd have your Road Agents, Writers and Personel. Simply put, there's a lot of people like... Kevin Dunn, Mark Carrano, Court Bauer, Paul Heyman, Jim Cornette, Stephanie McMahon who are, in terms of the game, not qualified to be road agents per say. Having a Writer category and a Personel category would help place them within the confines of the game.
For gameplay purposes, your road agents are responsible for match notes and their skill level affect the match quality in that sense. Writers would be useful to assign them to a segment and their skill would affect those. Personel is in charge of backstage atmosphere, drug testing, medical and disciplinary logs. Larger companies would require more of each, depending on roster size.
I'd also make it so that this category would be essentially non-eligible for matches, and you'd have to negotiate with them to request they make an on-screen appearance or so.
I personally sorely miss the writers team feature from TEW05 (I think it was). It made it a bit more dynamic in my opinion, and can be adapted with more depth today where the type of product dictates how many writers would be necessary.
Aside from that, during gameplay I'd love to see more attention given to the non-wrestlers. Managers are vital to gameplay, but also are hardly recognized. When you sim a company, the managers just stay with who they are. The AI doesn't change their clients, it doesn't change their alignment, etc. They should be a larger factor... they also should be eligible for Hall of Immortals / Hall of Fame inductions and should have their own set of eligibility requirements.
