I 100% agree with you. I am also hoping the band take shape with coming future and sure enough they will have a great time. Grindcore sometime is just plain stupid and I plainly just dislike it. I really hate the Grindcore scene taken from a overall perspective as it sometimes does not give the plain greatness that other particular extreme subgenres do.

So begins the second CD for inveterate old-school metalhead Tann and his partners in crime, and they knocked this ****er right outta the park. The debut CD was hampered by bad production, but was still one of the albums I played most last year (and this year too). Still hardly a week goes by when I do not give it a spin. So I was majorly stoked for this release. Could this band capture the magic again? All I have to say is "Hell Yes!" All you fans of clean, prissy, proggy Power Metal and commercialized pap like Dream Evil need to stop reading right now and go back to your cookie-cutter metal. This is not stuff you are ever going to hear on the radio anywhere – this is real ****ing metal here. On their debut Ironsword invited some comparisons to Omen, but this one is plainly more influenced by the almighty Manilla Road. So if you don't like the 'Road, then go elsewhere, because this is very much a continuation of the faster, harsher sound of ooold MR a la stuff like "Crystal Logic" or "Mystification". (and I would so love to hear this band cover "The Children Of The Night") So you will not hear any falsetto wailing or happy lyrics about loving nature, this is Manly Metal. Ironsword are even more obsessed with Robert E Howard than Cauldron Born were, and almost every tune here has a few Hyborian Age references. Ironsword have no gimmick, they just put good riffs together with good choruses to make great ****ing songs. The production is fatter than last time, and the drums sound real instead of Casio. Tann's voice is even deeper, gruffer, and more macho than before – no one has ever sounded more barbaric. He sings clean here and there, and carries that off well too, in places he sounds so much like Mark Shelton I could swear it really is the Shark himself, especially on "Beginning Of The End" and "Chronicles Of Nemedia". There is not a single bad song on here, and not a one you won't be headbanging along to in no time. Two spins and I was singing whole tracks in my head while I drove to work – that is ****ing catchy is what that is. The CD case and booklet is waaayyyy better than last time, with a cool cover, full lyrics included, some pictures, and coolest of all: a map of the Hyborean Age on the inside of the J-card. Thumbs way up for that. Ironsword have managed to stay with the style the forged on the first album, and yet still completely outdo themselves with an album that just spills over with killer ****ing songs. This is the very definition of All Killer No Filler, and for oldschool mavens like me this is a complete feast. Barbaric vocals, iron-barbed riffs and smoking leadwork wedded to instantly memorable choruses and lyrics about war – Ironsword is best appreciated with a beer in one hand, an axe in the other, and the volume all the way up. All members are present and accounted for with the stark exception of original vocalist Rey Parra who was unable to break away from commitments in Florida to record with his compatriots in Illinois. Apparently they've been trying to make the arrangements to record this album for a number of years now. Ironically enough Parra's chosen replacement, Eli Prinsen of The Sacrificed, also resides in Florida. But more about him in a moment. There was talk that this was the band's heaviest material to date, but I don't agree with that. Sure, the pounding riff and blast beat on album opener 'Desperately Wicked' is the heaviest the band has ever used, but the rest of the songs land solidly in line with the Iron Maiden-meets-Queensryche sound for which they have always been known, and for the most part those songs are very well written and enjoyable with deep, thought-provoking lyrics. Stand out tracks would be 'Fear Me', 'Sinking Sand' and 'Desperately Wicked'. While there are nods and references to the band's past here and there, like the album intro and the token ballad with 'love' in the title, the songs themselves don't sound like any previous SW album more than another. I can only say that the sound is distinctly Sacred Warrior and would be easily recognizable to any fan. My only real complaint is with the vocals. Don't get me wrong, Prinsen is an adequate vocalist. However, despite his best efforts to emulate his predecessor he just can't fill Parra's sizeable shoes. Sure, he can hit those high notes, but sometimes it sounds like he's straining beyond his natural range. Parra on the other hand made it all sound so easy and natural. His raw power also lent itself to a more passionate delivery, often blending rougher vocal textures and borderline screams into the mix. Prinson on the other hand sounds like he's sacrificing passion for the sake of precision. There are exceptions to this, like on 'Fallen Hero' where his efforts are quite effective at communicating the sadness of knowing someone who once fought the good fight but has fallen away. He also manages to let loose and passionately belt it out on the chorus to 'Long Live the King', sounding more than ever like Parra there. But I can't deny that I am a little disappointed with the change. As you might expect, the differences in vocal styles are most apparent on the two re-recorded classic songs. 'Day of the Lord' is hands down my favorite song from the Rebellion album, so I am rather partial to the original. I will admit this one sounds pretty good too. 'Temples on Fire' from Obsessions nicely executed as well. Complaints aside, these are great songs and the strength of the music and lyrics overshadow my disappointment with the change in vocalists. The album has been greatly enjoyed (and often) on my afternoon commute home from work. Like it's parent genre, it also draws in different sounds previously not mixed with heavy metal. Also like alternative metal, nu metal often showcases off-kilter, syncopated guitar sections, usually with little-to-no guitar solos and unusual time signatures. What differentiated nu metal greatly from other metal subgenres however was it's hip-hop elements, such as sampling, turntablism, and electronic infusions. This hip-hop influence can also put rapping at the forefront, but nu metal can also showcase clean singing, screaming, and growling. The creation of nu metal came with the New Wave of American Heavy Metal, along many other genres such as groove metal, metalcore, and industrial metal. One of nu metal's biggest breakouts onto the scene was with Korn's self-titled debut in 1994, which is often considered to be one of the most important records in the development of the genre. Other acts continued to emerge following Korn's debut, such as Slipknot, Nothingface, Mudvayne, Coal Chamber, Staind, and others later in the 90's and continuing into the 2000's. Although many consider nu metal to be a reasonable facet to metal music, many bands labeled as such have gone on to reject it as a sort of cultural misnomer. Many bands such as Staind and Korn recognize "nu metal" as a mark of inadequacy that people use do discredit the music that they make. Others like Coal Chamber and Limp Bizkit stand by the label, expressing that they believe nu metal to be something that "broke musical ground", as Coal Chamber vocalist Dez Fafara said. To this day, the legitimacy of the mark of nu metal is one still debated heatedly throughout the metal world. In the 2010's a hybrid fusion of metalcore and nu metal came with bands like Atilla and Issues, as well as albums from previously established metalcore acts like Suicide Silences's The Black Crown (2011) and Of Mice and Men's Restoring Force (2014). You might think: ‘that is so cheesy I can’t stand it’. That might be true, but considering that Sacred Warrior was a straight forward Christian band it turns out pretty clear what they are all about so we need to move on preconceptions and listen to this otherwise wonderful album. It is sad this band never got worldwide recognition even in Christian circles. I guess it is due to the fact they didn’t get the kind of distribution that would have pushed them forward or maybe it was the lack of promotional video clips, which is kind of rare since Deliverance, Tourniquet, Vengeance Rising, Shout, Ransom got video clips to promote them and they were part of the same label. Anyhow, it’s a pity because more exposure could have helped them raising to stardom but since that spot was taken by Stryper, Whitecross and even Barren Cross I guess we have to conform with the fact that this was a good band and their first two albums kick ass in many ways. Being that said let’s move on to the music itself. Sacred Warrior sophomore album sounds in many ways to recollections of many bands that were not even at the peak yet, as far as I am concerned. Please remember that the year was 1989. The overall sound of the band is somewhat reminiscent of Queensryche circa ‘The warning’ era, especially in regards to speed and heaviness and even glimpses of Fates Warning circa ‘The Specter within’ &‘Awakening the guardian’. The vocals are very much alike those of Geoff Tate and Michael Kiske but not that high pitched as Kiske yet very melodic. Rey Perra’s incredible skills do not go unnoticed along with the precision of the bands’ complex drumming patterns and bass lines make the album a worthwhile experience, not without suffering some flaws. The musical approach to Master’s Command is similar to Operation Mindcrime (without the boredom of that tedious album) and the speed and pumping’ attitude of Painkiller by the Judas’ (please consider that Painkiller was put out a year later) so this was really ahead of its time. Progressive elements are present although this cannot be considered progressive metal. It is melodic yes, but the progressive elements are just to spice the already ultra melodic music. If you listen to the instrumental ‘Onward warriors’ you will notice these progressive elements, including abrupt time changes, weird time signatures, lots of syncopated drum rhythms and virtuoso and rich soloing yet melodic enough to enjoy a lot, reminiscent of modern Dream Theater which points back to Fates Warning again. This happens throughout the album of course but they are less evident due to some issues that I will detail later on. Opener ‘Master’s command’ is a really good song. It has a mid tempo pace with a really good vocal performance. Contrary to many albums this song is not really catchy and it is more focused on the lyrical topic and does not stick to your mind due to the complex and long chorus’ lyrics. The drumming patterns and exquisite use of crashes and cymbals, plus the double bass adds a lot of texture to the song or an expanded dimension, comparing it to regular heavy metal title tracks from those days. Next is ‘Beyond the Mountain’ which is now a catchy song and has a really catchy chorus due to the vocal melodies and simpler structure. There is only one ballad in ‘Unfailing love’. This one is not that sappy as those from Stryper but still suffers from the same disease. The lyrics are really corny and the vocal lines are over coated with sugar which makes me want to skip it. The ability to write good ballads is something that just a few bands achieve circa 1989, such as Poison, Queensryche, Iron Maiden, Bon Jovi, but a big pile of the rest failed to do this job and Sacred Warrior sure failed too. ‘Bound in chains’ is very forgettable and passes by unnoticed. By the time you come to ‘Many will come’ the second problem is taking shape (I know I haven’t talked about the first one yet): the riffs are starting to sound very much alike. The difference between the basic rhythm sections and chords is quite little, almost unnoticed, thus the mid tempo songs begin to sound similar and that drags the album a bit. It is so that ‘Bound in chains’, ‘Paradise’, ‘Uncontrolled’ and ‘Many will come’ sound very much alike between them. Perhaps a different track order might have prevented this. Next is the instrumental ‘Onward Warriors’ which is really nice and a surprise because, not even Barren Cross, Stryper, Petra, etc wrote such good instrumentals. Whitecross’ were basically guitar show offs by Rex Carroll but a good instrumental that nowadays brings memories of Fates Warning and modern Dream Theater is a nice touch. ‘The flood’ with Roger Martinez from ‘Vengeance Rising’ performing the vocals adds extra dimension to this song. Certainly there is melody in the riffs and yet with his raspy, screechy and tormented vocals take the song to new levels. This is a good kick ass song. It is faster and it takes advantage of the best elements Sacred Warrior had, which I already mentioned but due to the excellent execution in the vocal department it is a nice surprise again. Finally, the album closes with ‘Holy, Holy, Holy’ which is a famous public domain church Sunday song (not only Christian mind you!). It is a little corny closing the album with this song and it sounds out of place. This is not because the song was incorrectly made. It is good and the performing is cool, transforming a simple church’s choir to a heavy metal quasi ballad but again, a different track list order might have helped this album to increase the score. The first problem you might notice when you start listening to the title track and the one that becomes evident by the time the second song comes in is the fact that the guitars are too buried in the mix. The sound mixing is focused on the vocals and the drums. Unfortunately the guitars sound too light, ala Bloodgood, and Sacred Warrior’s approach was of course, heavier than Bloodgood. This takes away a lot of the entertainment as far as riffing style because you cannot fully enjoy them, taking away the punch that this album requires. Fates Warning did not suffer from this. Thus, this was a band that did not get the recognition they deserved. There are some cheesy aspects of their music (even back then). Sound mixing problems and a different track list order might have helped to increase the score a lot. If I pass by these flaws I get a hell of an album (oh so sorry, this is Christian remember?). Let’s say this is an awesome ride with some twists like raspy growls, great instrumentals, nice guitar soloing, outstanding drumming and powerful emotional vocal delivery. This is what only a few and selected and good Christian bands could do.

Awesome? Yes! Japan has a very interesting metal scene indeed. Imperial Circus Dead Decadence second release Kurooshiku Saita Seisan Na Mukuro Wa Kanaderu, Itooshiku Saita (which very roughly translates into: Mukuro is appalling that bloomed Kuruoshiku play, a girl who can sing the lyrics of love regrettable split sacrament-) is just a big concoction of everything. What is going on here" This album is just confusing right of the bat. It feels so foreign yet so very homely, but still an epic journey rests within this album just waiting for someone to notice it. (I will now abbreviate the album title to Kurooshiku since that is obviously much easier.) Kurooshiku is a rather unknown release, but for all the wrong reasons. It hasn’t been for sale in any other countries other than Japan which is a disappointment. The album and band name isn’t really that appealing either and can really create perplexity, but once discovered it’s not easily forgotten. As far as originality goes Imperial Circus Dead Decadence has a lot of this, but only utilizes some of it during Kurooshiku and focuses for the most time on a more straight forward power/melodic death metal album. This goes for most of the riffs and pretty much all of the drumming. The thing that makes this album the most special is probably the vocals. I have no idea of what this bands line up looks like, but I’m pretty certain that this band only have one singer, which is hard to imagine after listening to Kurooshiku though. If the band has two vocalist or one I cannot tell, but I will still do my best to explain them. The harsh vocals range from very low growls to mid grunt/screams to extremely high pitched shrieks. This range is notable in many of the songs and this harsh vocalist is a really good one. As for the clean singing it’s mostly done by a male vocalist with a smooth, but with a quite insane tone to it. He is very energetic in his singing and it works perfectly with the rest of the music. Some of the clean singing is made by a female vocalist with a very high voice. This certain voice just feels really Asian and it’s fantastic for the atmosphere. All the lyrics are also of course in Japanese. The Symphonic and Black metal influences is obvious in many songs. Keyboards are used thoroughly in every song and often has the sound a organ or string instruments which gives Kurooshiku a filly neoclassical atmosphere as well. Really fast blast beats which appears throughout the album mixed with the keyboard is what gives Kurooshiku it’s black metal feel. A lot of samples can be also be found here and the mostly consists of strange and chilling background noises combined with some Japanese little girl talking. I have no idea of what is said in these samples since finding information about this album is really hard. Finnish power/ melodic death metal bands like Children of Bodom or Norther have noticeably influenced this band. What makes this album the most fun is actually the occasional highlights. The second song “Gekiai no Yobigoe ga Dekiai no Kyougoe wo" is a highlight on its own and is one of the best songs on the entire album. It is a combination of pretty much all genres I have stated in this review and it’s just insane how fantastic yet crazy it is. The vocals are amazing and it’s a very enjoyable track. No songs are boring which is a big plus and even though some of the songs might sound similar, another really original track comes along and gives the album a push in the right direction again. The sixth track is somewhat similar to something Dir En Grey would release and it is just a very weird song which once again shows us what a diverse band Imperial Circus Dead Decadence is. I might understand that some peaople really won’t like it becuase it kinda goes overboard with the cheesy anime stuff, but other than that it’s amazing.

They're almost as "only in Japan" as Babymetal (seriously, Uta would make an awesome anime intro) with a style that combines Kami band's death riffs and the symphonic & blackened elements of Sigh (the only black metal band as good as Bathory, fight me).</div></blockquote> I listened to them before and I gotta' say I loved them.
