We have a NEW NWA World Heavyweight Champion in Jake The Snake Roberts. =B+

vs. A great technical contest to begin the wrestling portion of the show. At Halloween Havoc, Valentine got disqualified for using a chair on Mike Rotundo and Mr. Wrestling II got attacked backstage by Steve Williams. Both are looking to regain their momentum tonight. It was a back and forth contest with neither man gaining a real advantage until Steve Williams and Bobby Heenan came out. Dr. Death got up on the apron as Wrestling II was setting up for the kneelift and Mr. Wrestling II went over to him, arguing with him. Valentine rolled up Wrestling II from behind and picked up the pinfall! Greg Valentine defeated Mr. Wrestling II in 7:35 by pinfall following interference from Steve Williams. Road Agent NOTES: Referee=Adrien Desbois...Mr. Wrestling II is improving in Performance skills...=C+ Following the match, Bobby Heenan directed Steve Williams to attack Mr. Wrestling II from behind! Dr. Death dropped Wrestling II with his Oklahoma Stampede, leaving him lying on the mat and Heenan raising Williams' arms. =D+

w/ vs. The short match was pretty much dominated by the Great Kabuki tonight. Gary Hart looked pleased outside the ring but these two men inside didn't seem to click. Gary Hart distracted referee Stu Schwartz and Bobby Colt was met with a blast of green mist! Kabuki got the cover as Gary Hart dropped down and picked up the pinfall. The Great Kabuki defeated Bobby Colt in 3:32 by pinfall with a Green Mist Blast. Road Agent NOTES: Referee=Stu Schwartz...The Great Kabuki and Bobby Colt just don't click at all, and it showed in their performances. The announcing quality lifted the match. The colour commentary gave the match a boost. Bobby Colt is improving in Performance skills...=D Inside the ring, Kabuki and Gary Hart decided to add insult to injury, as Gary Hart stomped on the fallen Bobby Colt. Out from the back came Magnum T.A. running to the ring! He slid inside and grabbed Gary Hart, tossing him away from Bobby Colt. He turned his attention toward Kabuki and got nailed in the eyes with the green mist! Magnum grabbed his face and swung wildly but was met with a Heart Kick and Kabuki stood over Magnum T.A. =C-

The focus turned toward the interview area where the Rock and Roll Express are standing by with bandages on. Ricky Morton: "Dory Funk Jr, Terry Funk: you couldn't get the job done. There is, of course, a backstory between the Funks and Tribal Nation but the crowd didn't seem to care very much. The Funks dominated the match and Dory Funk Jr. got the submission from Mark Youngblood with the Spinning Toe Hold. The Funks defeated Tribal Nation in 4:56 when Dory Funk Jr. defeated Mark Youngblood by submission with a Funk Spinning Toe Hold. Road Agent NOTES: The Funks make defence number 10 of their NWA World Tag Team titles. Whoooo! Everyone who watched Halloween Havoc knows that the Nature Boy took care of business against Dick Slater inside of a steel cage. What people may not know is that at Starrcade, Ric Flair is going to get the opportunity to become the man once again against Jake The Snake Roberts! Whoooo. But before I get there, tonight, I am scheduled to take on Ivan Koloff. Ivan, you may have beaten Harley Race at Halloween Havoc but tonight you are going to walk that aisle against Ric Flair. And tonight we're gonna get it done. Whoooo!" =B+

vs. A dominant match by Jerry Brisco as he focused on the leg of the Brooklyn Brawler throughout things. Jerry Brisco defeated The Brooklyn Brawler in 2:37 by submission with a Figure Four Leglock. Road Agent NOTES: Referee=Randy Anderson...The announcing quality lifted the match. What isn't good about it is the light shining from that fake American Dream Dusty Rhodes. Dusty, you and I have gone up and down the cosmic roads. We've seen each other and fought each other time and time again. You are the only person in this world aside from myself that I really hate. Remember this, when there's a giant lightning storm there has to be some thunder. Dusty Rhodes, at Starrcade, the time is drawing near. The time is drawing closer and closer to your ultimate demise. Soon my predictions will be the truth. You and I will stand together in the middle of the ring and I will destroy you for my master." =B+

vs. And it's time for the main event as the Nature Boy Ric Flair goes one on one with the Russian Bear Ivan Koloff. The two showed great chemistry in the ring as the match seemed almost a one-sided affair as Koloff seemed to dominate for most of the bout. Koloff focused on the back while Bob Caudle and David Crockett spoke about the airplane accident that Ric Flair was in several years back. Doctors had told Flair he'd never wrestle again but here he is. Toward the end of the match, Flair began making his comeback with help from the crowd, chopping that big chest of Ivan Koloff and going after the knee! But the comeback was cut short as Jake Roberts came slithering in and attacked Flair with a double sledge from behind, causing the DQ! Ric Flair defeated Ivan Koloff in 11:38 when Ivan Koloff was disqualified when Jake Roberts ran in and attacked Ric Flair. Road Agent NOTES: Referee=Tommy Young...Ric Flair and Ivan Koloff have great chemistry, and it showed in their performances. The announcing job done by David Crockett was pretty weak. The announcing quality wasn't up to the same standard as the match. This match lifted the crowd...=B+ Following the match, Jake Roberts and Ivan Koloff teamed together to stomp on Flair. Koloff lifted Flair into a Bear Hug! But the crowd cheered as out came Harley Race with a chair! Race scattered Koloff and Roberts, standing in the middle of the ring as the show went off the air. =B+
OVERALL RATING: B- ATTENDANCE: 5,000
Tonight, your luck is gonna run out, son." Slater spits his tobacco at the feet of Bob Caudle before heading toward the ring. =C Once Slater hit the ring, the crowd cheered as out came Mike Rotundo, the U.S. Champ! The former amateur wrestler started things off quickly with a side headlock takedown on Slater. But Rotundo's momentum was short-lived against Dick Slater. Slater dominated most of the match, just as Valentine had done to Rotundo but Rotundo refused to be pinned! The crowd rallied behind the plucky champion and Rotundo was able to avoid a piledriver, lifting Slater up and over and really started to gain that switch in momentum, finally hitting Slater with the Airplane Spin and then picking up a pinfall victory! Mike Rotundo defeated Dick Slater in 12:51 by pinfall with an Airplane Spin. Road Agent NOTES: Mike Rotundo makes defence number 3 of his United States Heavyweight title. At Starrcade, we're gonna get bad, we're gonna get better and we're gonna get funky like a monkey. The Rock and Roll Express are still #1 contenders to the Funks' NWA World Tag Team Titles and showed their resilience tonight against two tough men. Late in the match, the Funks came out to give the distraction for the Long Riders. Terry climbed on the apron but an irish whip was reversed, sending Black Bart into Terry Funk! Dr. Death really learned at the hands of one of the masters inside the ring: Ricky Steamboat and the two went back and forth for the short duration of the bout. Steamboat started to gain the advantage and went up top for his Cross Body but Dick Slater came running down to the ring and knocked Steamboat down into the ring, causing the DQ. Tonight, 4 of the all-time greats, 4 of the best in one tag team match as the Nature Boy teams up with the legendary King Harley Race against the NWA World Heavyweight Champion Jake The Snake Roberts and The Russian Bear Ivan Koloff.(boos!) Tonight is the beginning of the end for the reign of Jake Roberts. It begins with a victory tonight and ends with a victory at Starrcade for the Nature Boy. Whooo! Tell 'em Harley!" Harley Race: "Somebody please tell me why I have to keep facing that evil Russian. PLEASE! Ivan, you may have gotten a fluke victory over me at Halloween Havoc but that's not going to happen tonight and it won't happen at Starrcade. Tonight we face each other in a tag team bout and at Starrcade we have several feet of chain between us in that Russian Chain match. Yes, I accepted your style of match, Ivan Koloff. I want to prove to you and prove to everyone that Harley Race is indeed the King!" =B+ And what a main event of the evening. A tag team bout of epic proportions and these 4 wrestlers rarely ever disappoint. But the crowd here in Delaware wasn't as into them as one might expect and that hurt the match overall. Flair got trapped in Koloff and Robert's corner early on and the bad guys focused their advantage there, working over the Nature Boy. The crowd got into it some, though, rallying the Nature Boy back and he was able to tag in the King! Harley Race took down Koloff! He took down Roberts! He was a house on fire inside the ring with body slams and punches! But in the process of this, the referee got bumped and Roberts and Koloff double-teamed Race. Flair was still recovering outside on the apron. Flair was slowly getting to his feet when Roberts knocked him off the apron and against the steel barricade. The crowd cheered the entrance of Ric Flair and the two men started things off with a brawl with Jake using forearms and the Nature Boy using chops. Flair took the advantage and sent Jake spiraling outside the ring, giving a strut inside the ring and releasing a 'Whooo' that is echoed by the crowd. When Jake slid back in the ring, he used a rake to the eyes to start gaining his advantage and began his focus on the neck and back of Flair as Gordon Solie explained to fans about Flair's previous back injury that everyone should know about. After about 10 minutes of extensive work by Jake, he signaled for the DDT to boos from the crowd! He hooked Flair in but Flair grabbed the top rope so when Jake snapped back he fell to the mat by himself! Flair began his comeback on the Snake, focusing on the leg of Jake Roberts but Flair's comeback was short-lived as Roberts sent Flair smashing into the steel post behind the turnbuckle! Flair staggered back and fell flat on his face with Jake doing a mock strut before picking up Flair's legs. He looks like he's going for the Figure 4 Leglock! He tries to cinch it in but Flair has it well-scouted and rolls Roberts into a small package! 1...2...3!!!! Ric Flair has done it! He pinned the NWA World Heavyweight Champion! Will this happen tomorrow night??? All 4 men came down in blue jeans and this was a brawl from the get-go which fit the Funks style moreso than the style of the Rock and Roll Express. This was fought texas tornado style, meaning all 4 men in the ring at the same time. During the middle of the match, the Express started using some more high-flying moves against the Funks to keep them off-balance. In the end, it came down to a mistake by Terry Funk, hitting his own partner and brother with the branding iron! Robert Gibson rolled Dory into a small package and we have NEW NWA World Tag Team Champions to kick off the show! Dusty, of course, had the strength advantage so he was able to take some times during the match and pull Sullivan toward him. Both men used the strap as a weapon and both men's backs were crimson red by the end of the match because of the lashings they took. Sullivan did have an advantage that Dusty didn't have and that was Fallen Angel. She distracted Dusty during the match, allowing Kevin to tie Dusty in the tree of woe! Rotundo kept the advantage in the early-going but Valentine fired back. The two had pretty good chemistry inside the ring. Valentine focused his attention on the back and legs of Rotundo. The fans tried to get Rotundo back into this match but it was to no avail. Valentine nailed the Hammer Elbow Drop on Rotundo and we have a NEW United States Heavyweight Champion! Harley Race made his entrance first followed by the Russian Bear. The two stared daggers at each other as referee Stu Schwartz tied Harley into the chain and then Ivan and the bell sounded for this tough encounter. The match began as one might expect with the two men circling each other and pulling slightly on the chain to see who's going to give ground first. Ivan let Race pull him in but took the King down with a chest bump and Koloff started the match with the advantage. His main focus as one would expect was on the back of Harley Race as a set-up to his Bear Hug. Koloff wrapped the chain up some and then lashed Race in the back with it. Race stumbled forward in pain, reaching back to grab his back where some of the chain had bitten into his flesh. This match is not for the weak of heart as Race has already started to bleed within the first 5 minutes. Koloff bodyslammed Race and made the cover but only got a two count. Koloff continued to use backbreakers and other moves to work Race's back. Koloff wrapped in a reverse chinlock, driving his knee into Race's back at the same time, causing Race to cry out in pain. The crowd worked in Race's favor, cheering him on and helping him to get to a vertical base! Race fired a few elbows into Koloff's gut and then bodyslammed the Russian Bear! Race then went outside and climbed the turnbuckles with Koloff prone on the mat! The King settled up there and then dove with a headbutt on Koloff! Race popped back up and mounted Koloff, wrapping that chain around his fist and pouding the Russian Bear in the face, busting open the Russian! The crowd cheered as Koloff got a taste of his own medicine! Race lifted back up and made a sign for the Piledriver to the crowd! The fans rose on their feet as Race picked up Koloff and.....executed the Piledriver! He made the cover and referee Stu Schwartz counted: 1...2...3! Harley Race has done it! The King is here! Harley Race defeated Ivan Koloff in 14:36 by pinfall with a Piledriver. Road Agent NOTES: Referee=Stu Schwartz...The injury that Harley Race worked through took a big toll. He was wearing a pair of dark sunglasses over his eyes and one could easily see the patch behind them. His steps were very careful and he was using a cane to help himself. He slid inside the ring, being handed a microphone there. Magnum T.A.: "Look, everyone knows what happened to me before when the Great Kabuki spit his mist in my eyes. Gary Hart waved his hand in front of Magnum's face and Magnum didn't respond. Gary tried hard not to laugh but he couldn't help it and Magnum dropped the microphone and reached out to grab him but Kabuki attacked Magnum from the side! He nailed Magnum T.A. with the Heart Kick, dropping the already blind man to the mat! Kabuki and Gary Hart took turns stomping on Magnum T.A. The match actually started out with some technical wrestling back and forth. Of course that is Steamboat's forte so he ended with the advantage, working over the arm of Slater and dominating the early-going as most people believed he would. Slater used the hair to bring Steamboat back in the corner, though, and threw some shoulders to the gut and it was brawling that brought Dirty Dick back into this match. Steamboat rallied back late in the match and set Slater up for that Flying Cross Body but Slater ducked at the last moment and Steamboat crashed and burned! Slater got up and dropped an elbow on Steamboat and made the cover, sliding his feet on the ropes! Referee Tommy Young didn't see it and counted the 3 count for the upset! Dick Slater defeated Ricky Steamboat in 11:36 by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage. Road Agent NOTES: Referee=Tommy Young...The announcing quality lifted the match. He headed over to the podium before the match. Ric Flair: "Roanoke, Whooooo, Virginia we are here at Starrcade and we are ready for the main event. You've got the NWA World Heavyweight Champion Jake Roberts on one side and the Nature Boy Ric Flair Whooo on the other. Jake, you talk about unleashing a snake on Ric Flair? Well, let me tell you something, the snake that Ric Flair unleashes is only seen by the girls lucky enough to ride Space Mountain. Whoooo. But I think Roanoke, Virginia is ready to see a brand new NWA World Heavyweight Champion tonight so let's cut the crap and walk that aisle, champ, because tonight to be the man you have to beat the man and you've got that belt so that makes you the man I'm gonna beat. Whoooo!" =A* There isn't a fan in their seat as Ric Flair makes his way down the aisle and into the ring to cheers that nearly take the roof off the place! Then those cheers turn to boos as Jake Roberts steps out, carrying his snake bag and the NWA World Heavyweight Title. Your referee for this contest is Tommy Young. He checks both wrestlers and then calls for the bell in this one on one contest! The two men circle each other slowly, knowing this is going to be one long, drawn-out contest. They go to the center of the ring to lock up and Flair avoids it, turning and strutting across the ring and releasing a 'Whoooo' that is echoed by the crowd. Once things got settled, Flair pushed Jake into a corner and unleashed a chop to the chest! He gave a second one and a third one that had Jake staggering out of the corner! Flair turned and dropped Jake with a chop block to the knee! Jake quickly rolled out of the ring and grabbed his knee, checking on it outside the ring while the referee began his count. The first ten minutes of the match consisted of Flair gaining the advantage and Jake stopping his momentum by getting in the corner or rolling outside the ring. Jake does still have the Champion's advantage here where if he loses by countout or DQ he still keeps the belt. The momentum changed at about the 11 minute mark when Jake raked Flair's face and then started focusing on his own advantage, beating Flair about the head and neck, obviously setting him up for either the DDT or the Short-Arm Clothesline. The crowd tried to pull Flair through several times during the next 9 minutes but couldn't seem to get Flair to sustain any momentum. Jake used the steel guardrail outside the ring and the ringpost to his advantage as well. Referee Tommy Young was very lenient on things so as not to call a DQ. Around the 21 minute mark, Flair started gaining the advantage back. He fired several elbow shots into the chest of Jake and bounced off the ropes but each man nailed a clothesline and were down on the mat! Referee Tommy Young began his mandatory ten count but each man was slowly getting back to his feet. Jake ducked a clothesline attempt by Flair and Flair hit the referee, bumping him to the mat! Jake staggered over to his corner while Flair tried to revive the referee and began undoing his bag. Jake reached inside the bag and pulled out...a lead pipe! He has a lead pipe inside his snake bag! Flair tried around and got clobbered in the head by that pipe! Jake tossed the pipe away and made the cover as the referee recovered. Tommy Young crawled over to make a 1...2..3 count! Jake retains the belt! Jake Roberts defeated Ric Flair in 24:31 by pinfall after using a foreign object. Road Agent NOTES: Jake Roberts makes defence number 1 of his NWA World Heavyweight title. Referee=Tommy Young...The announcing job done by David Crockett was pretty weak. The Flair/Roberts storyline has continued with this match. He held it up to the booing Roanoke crowd before laying the snake on top of Ric Flair, letting it lie there while he took his belt and held it where he knew Flair could see it if he regained conciousness. The show came to a close with Jake standing victorious. =B+
OVERALL RATING: B+ ATTENDANCE: 8,451
Comments/ETC. on the show are always appreciated.
