WSX in 2001

Recommended Posts

WSX News WSX Pier 6 Brawl recieved 22,000 buys, far less than last month's Initiation PPV. That along with a dip in the TV ratings has lead to something of a potential power struggle within WSX. Steven Ross has written over 90% of the scripts so far, but with the buzz that surrounded WSX seemingly over, the suits at Bravo! are taking this as an opportunity to push Ross into letting Vince Russo write more of the shows. Bravo! originally pushed for Russo to be hired as the head writer of WSX, but Ross has only used him as an authority figure thus far. Carmen Electra was seen backstage pitching storyline ideas to Ross and has also dropped some hints that she wants to be an authority figure as well.

Kyoko stays in constant motion, hitting Brooks with various strikes when she gets flattened by a clothesline. Brooks tries to catch her breath and stomps away on Kyoko’s midsection. Kyoko slips out of a power slam attempt and hit a Niagara Driver to get the pin at 5:58. (D) Kyoko and Tracy shake hands. (F) Commercials We come back to see Carmen Electra waving to the fans as she makes her way to the back when Samoa Joe walks out and drags her back into the ring. He demands and receives a mic and hands it to Carmen. Joe stands to Carmen’s side and speaks into the mic doing a bad impression of Carmen asking, “What’s going on? What’s the meaning of this?” Joe stands opposite of Carmen and cuts a promo complaining about how he’s being disrespected. Joe says that he’s yet to get a title match and that he’ll continue to take out all the other “b*tches” until he gets one. (E-) Commercials CM Punk vs. Simon Diamond vs [IMG]http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd153/somenewguy_2007/SimonDiamond.jpg[/IMG] Stellar TV match with a nice mix of wrestling and high-flying spots. Both men bust out swank counter-moves and have the crowd into it. Simon slips out of a Pepsi Plunge attempt and rolls Punk up, who rolls through to rollup Diamond for the three at 11:44 (B-) Commercials The Ballard Brothers are backstage. They brag about their victory over Air Styles and say it’s all thanks to their new manager, the woman who will lead them to tag gold, Pamela Paulshock. Pamela walks out in the latest trendy designer clothes and says that her boys are the future of tag team wrestling and that their time is coming a lot faster than people think. (D) We cut to the ring where Low-Ki and Jimmy Yang are standing. They yell a lot and demand a rematch with the Nu-Wave Runners. (D-) The West Hollywood Blondes pop up on the big screen and tell Yang and Ki to get out of the ring. The Blondes are about to win themselves some tag team gold. Things get much better when they settle into the usual tag formula. We take a break and comeback to Nova making the hot tag to Spanky. The Runners win when Spanky pins Lodi at 12:27 (D+) Commercials A hype video for Shane Michaels, who is wearing gear similar to HBK’s old Rockers stuff, airs. (D) Frankie Kazarian is watching it with Vince Russo on a monitor. Frankie says that this is exactly what he’s talking about, a nobody being pushed because of who his cousin is rather than because of what he’s accomplished. Russo agrees with him. Both Frankie and Shane will have a chance to prove themselves because they’ll be in a match against each other next week. (D) Alicia Webb is with WSX World Champion Steve Corino in his locker room. Corino claims to not care who wins tonight’s main event because they’ll end up just like Marty did at Pier 6 Brawl, bruised, battered, and beaten with nothing to show for it. (D) Commercials #1 Contender’s Match 6 Pack Challenge Tommy Dreamer vs. Eric Angle vs. Terry Funk vs. David Flair vs. Scorpio vs. Chris Candido vs vs vs vs vs Joey tells us that there are no count outs and no DQ’s in this match and whoever scores the first fall wins. All six men battle in the ring and start throwing each other over the top rope until it’s just Tommy Dreamer standing tall as we take out final break. We come back to Candido and Scorpio brawling outside while Dreamer and Funk have teamed up against Angle and Flair. Candido sneaks in and tosses Funk. The remaining five men beat on one another when Funk slides back in with a chair and levels anything that moves before focusing on Flair and Angle. Dreamer groggily gets up and DDT’s Angle. Funk pushes Dreamer out of the way and scores the pin on Angle at 15:53. (C+) Terry Funk celebrates in the crowd amid “Terry! Terry!” chants. (D+) Overall Show Rating; C-

(D) The Sandman vs. B-Boy vs Total squash as B-Boy bumps around like there’s no tomorrow. Sandman wins it with the White Russian Legsweep at 3:55. (C-) Commercials Simon Diamond comes out and says that he has a problem. Every dog has his day and last week was CM Punk’s. Lightning won’t strike twice. Simon says CM Punk needs to show himself and accept a rematch. (D+) CM Punk pops up on the big screen. Punk thinks it over as the theme song from Jeopardy plays before accepting. (D+) Joey Styles hypes Shane Michaels vs. Frankie Kazarian as that match will be happening next. (E+) Commercials Joey Styles informs us that the CM Punk vs. Simon Diamond match will be taking place at Boiling Point. (D+) Shane Michaels vs. Frankie Kazarian vs Frankie controls much of the match and starts to get a little too confident. Shane capitalizes on Frankie’s mistakes, leading Frankie to become over-aggressive. Frankie charges at Shane only to be nailed in the face by some Sweet Shane Music. Shane Michaels wins by pin at 8:40. (D-) Samoa Joe runs in and levels Shane with an Island Driver followed by locking in a Triangle Choke. (E+) Alicia Webb is backstage with the Ballard Brothers and their new manager Pamela Paulshock. (E-) Commercials The Amazing Red and Shawn Daivari vs. The Ballard Brothers vs Pamela joins Joey on commentary. True to her word, the Ballards have an easy time with Red and Daivari winning with a Ballard Breaker at 7:40. (D-) Jimmy Yang and Low-Ki appear on the jumbo screen. The Runners seem to be living down to their name as every time Yang and Ki challenge them, the Runners run away. Well, you can’t run forever. It won’t be long until Yang’s and Ki’s patience reach their boiling point. (D) Commercials Carmen Electra introduces her guest, Eric Angle. Angle once again claims to be better than his little brother in every possible way. He also claims to have taught his baby bro everything he knows. When asked about who he would like to face, Angle says whoever is holding the gold is his target. Everyone else is beneath him, especially that talentless drunkard Sandman. Eric then goes on a long rant about how inferior The Sandman is to him before excusing himself before he goes nuts. (D) As Eric Angle leaves, Samoa Joe arrives and corners Carmen. He takes her mic and says that once again Carmen is doing things all wrong. Instead of asking people who they want to wrestle, she should be asking who Samoa Joe’s next victim will be. (D-) He then gives Carmen an evil smile and lifts her up into position for an Island Driver when Paul London runs in and smacks Joe across the back with a chair. Joe drops Carmen and turns around to get blasted on the head with another chair shot, forcing Joe to tumble to the outside. Joe and London shout threats at each other as officials run down to keep them separated. (E+) Commercials April Hunter vs. Akira Hokuto vs. Tracy Brooks vs vs Winner of this one fall match gets a title shot at Boiling Point. Hunter and Brooks team up and toss Akira out of the ring. April and Tracy slug it out with Brooks winning the exchange. Hunter ducks a clothesline attempt and fires more right hands at Brooks. Akira sneaks back in and nails April with a neck breaker. Tracy spears Akira for two. Brooks climbs up to the top rope only to be pushed off by April. Akira dropkicks April to the outside and hits Tracy with a Northern Lights Bomb to pick up the win and title shot at 6:51. (D) Commercials A hype video for Marty Jannetty lets us know that he’ll be in action next week. (D+) Trent Acid cuts a promo from somewhere in the back. He wants another chance at Chris Hero. (D-) CM Punk vs. David Flair vs Fairly boring match as Punk does his best to carry David. They manage a solid match that sees Flair focus on Punk’s leg and Punk working on David’s neck. Punk wins by submission with the Devil’s Lock at 11:49. (C-) Simon Diamond runs down and attacks Punk. The two brawl as we take our last… Commercial Break WSX World Champion Steve Corino gets into the ring and gets a mic. Corino: Terry Funk, I know you’re here and I know you’re no coward, so get in this ring and let’s do this. Terry Funk comes out to a good sized pop. He walks to the ring, gets his own mic, and stands nose to nose with the champ. He sizes Corino up before taking a step back. Funk: There’s usually only one reason a man call out another man. Corino: Hold on there, Terry. I don’t want to fight you right now, and think deep down, you don’t want to fight me either. Funk: You’re right, I don’t want to fight you, I want to beat you into a bloody mess. (Cheers and “Terry, Terry” chants.) Corino: Hear me out. I called you out here to offer you a chance. I want to offer you the chance to bow out gracefully. (Boo’s) Terry: You want me to forfeit the match?! Corino: I respect you, Terry. Despite you going over to the dark side and helping ECW, I still respect you. I see you as one of the last true teachers of the Old School way. I think it would only be fitting for you to acknowledge me as the new king of Old School on your way out. No disrespect Terry, but it’s time for you to step down. Terry laughs. Terry: Son, I’ve never backed down from a challenge and I’m not starting now. I don’t know about all this old school, new school, summer school, any of these schools you’re talking about, all I know is that I got me a title shot coming up and I’m taking it! (Cheers) Terry: Now, I admit I’m getting up there in age and there’s not a whole lot left for me to do in this business, but if I’m going out, I’m going out fighting. Steve Corino, you want me to step down? You want me to give you my seal of approval? I’ll do that if I can’t beat you for the WSX World Championship at Boiling Point. You want my career to end, then you’ll have to be the one to do it. The two men lower their microphones and shake hands. (D+) Overall Show Rating: D+

Last month I promised all of you a glimpse at a true superstar. I had a match at Pier 6 Brawl, and lost. What I’m here for, what I’m asking, what I’m demanding, is a second chance. One more chance to prove to all of you and to the WSX management team that I am what I say I am, great. I’ll take on anyone here, anyone in the back that wants a match, bring it on. I’m not going anywhere. Vince Russo appears at the entrance. Russo: You want a second chance? Fine. I’ll go back to the locker room and find an opponent for you, but that match won’t be taking place tonight. A “true superstar” like you needs the proper build up for your matches, so I’m letting you and all of the fans know that your match will take place on the next WSX on Bravo! (D) WSX Women’s Championship Kyoko Inoue vs. Akira Hokuto vs They battle to little crowd reaction to start, but have the fans somewhat into it towards the end. Kyoko nails the Niagara Driver for the win at 9:39. (D+) WSX World Champion Steve Corino is in his locker room staring at his title when Alicia Webb walks in. Alicia: Champ, we’re just an hour or so away from you having to defend your title against a man you used to idolize, Terry Funk. If you win tonight, not only do you keep your championship, you also end Terry’s career. Steve takes a deep breath before turning to Alicia. Corino: You every see that old movie, “Old Yeller?” It’s a story about a heroic dog that is always there for it’s family. Then, that dog gets sick and becomes something of a monster, and has to be put down before it infects anyone. Terry Funk is a lot like that dog. He was a hero for all wrestling fans, for me. But then he changed. He joined ECW and promoted garbage wrestling, turning his back on tradition. (He pauses for a moment.) You see, Alicia, I’ve come to terms with what I’m fighting for and what I have to do. The Terry Funk I once loved is gone. The man I’m facing tonight is a sick and twisted madman who is beyond redemption. He needs to be put down, and I’m the man with the gun. Back to the arena where Eric Angle’s music plays. He enters through the crowd mocking Sandman’s entrance. Eric carries a candy cane instead of a Singapore one and stumbles his way to ringside. (D) The Sandman then enters, showing Angle how it’s really done. (D-) The Sandman vs. Eric Angle vs Sandman dominates with punches and brawling tactics until Angle gives him a thumb to the eye. Angle outclasses Sandman with suplexes. Ankle lock gets applies, but Sandman makes it to the ropes. Sandman fights back but gets caught with a small package, giving Eric Angle the win at 6:51. (C) Marty Jannetty is backstage with Alexis Laree. Marty: Why did you call me over here. I’m not even on the card. Alexis: You were something of a wildchild back in your day, so I thought you might be able to help me out with this. Marty: With what? Alexis holds up two skimpy looking bikini outfits. Alexis: Which one do you think I should wear for the bikini contest? (D) Paul London is seen walking towards the ring. (E+) Paul London vs. Samoa Joe vs Stiff match that sees Joe’s mouth get busted open the hard way. Joe eventually snaps and locks the triangle choke on London. London reaches the ropes but Joe refuses to let go. The ref disqualifies Joe at 10:52. (C) The bell rings some more and officials run down as Joe still keeps the choke locked on. Joe eventually releases the choke and smiles at the carnage he caused.(D) The Nu-Wave Runners psych each other up for their big match. (E-) WSX World Tag Team Championship Nu-Wave Runners vs. The Ballard Brothers (w/Pamela Paulshock) vs w/ Nu-Wave Runners vs. The Ballard Brothers (w/Pamela Paulshock) High-flying and fast paced match that sees Pamela try to interfere several times. She succeeds in distracting the ref which allows the Ballards to switch off. Shannon Ballard scores a rollup using the tights to get the pinfall victory and titles at 14:26 (C-) A knock-off of “Sexy Boy” plays as Shane Michaels enters. He tells Pamela to not go anywhere because the Bikini Contest is going on right now! She stands in a corner as Alexis Laree comes down in a robe, followed by Allison Corino (boos), and finally Carmen Electra to huge cheers and catcalls. Alexis goes first and reveals that Marty chose the red outfit. Good pop for her. Next is Allison’s turn. She let’s us know that she’s wearing a black bikini, but we’ll never see it. Her brother is the reigning World Champion, which means that she should win no matter what the fans say. Shane tells her that it doesn’t work like that. Either drop the robe or leave. She refuses to do either one, so Shane calls out for some assistance. Shark Boy runs out and chases Allison away by threatening to bite her butt. Pamela’s turn is next. The fans approve, but Shane disqualifies her because she’s wearing a bra and panties instead of a bikini. Finally Carmen shows us what she’s got and easily wins the fan’s vote. Carmen is declared the winner. (D+) Alicia Webb is with CM Punk. Alicia: I’m back here with CM Punk. Mr. Punk… Punk: Please, Alicia, call me CM. Alicia: Alright, Mr. CM, what is your strategy in your match with Simon Diamond? Punk: It’s pretty simple. You see, Simon Diamond has a big mouth. I’m going to punch and kick him in that mouth until he can no longer talk. And then, I'll pin him. CM Punk vs. Simon Diamond vs [IMG]http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd153/somenewguy_2007/SimonDiamond.jpg[/IMG] Another great match between these two. They have terrific chemistry and the fans love it. End comes with Punk getting a schoolboy on Diamond for a questionable pin at 14:38 (B-) Simon argues with the ref that he got his shoulder up in time, but the decision stands. Diamond throws a tantrum. (D) Tommy Dreamer is in an interview area. Dreamer: You know, it just hit me that tonight could very well be the last time I get to be in the same arena as Terry Funk. For those of you that don’t know, Terry was something of a mentor to me back when I first started out in ECW. He taught me so much about not just wrestling, but life and what it means to be a man. I consider him to be one of my closest friends. (He takes a breath) I lost our tag match on the last WSX on Bravo! and I can’t help but feel like I let him down. I’m hoping to rectify that tonight when I face the man that pinned me, Devon Storm. Devon, prepare to get your ass kicked. (D) Tommy Dreamer vs. Devon Storm vs Solid match that sees Dreamer spend most of the match trying to sneak a DDT on Storm, who controls much of the bout. Dreamer finally gets one and gets the pin at 8:52. (C+) The camera is on a very happy and excited Joey Styles. Styles: Wow, what a match! Ladies and gentlemen, you’ve probably read about it online. We’ve scored a major coup this week, and… well, just take a look at this! We’re sent to a video package. A lose-up of a finger pointing up sends the camera in that direction to a single figure falling in slow motion. We start to move in on it as some music creeps in. It’s revealed that the figure is a man falling in a seated position holding something under one of his legs. We hear Style’s voice calling the man homicidal, suicidal, and genocidal. We cut back to the finger and quickly pull back to see Sabu in his infamous pose. The words “Coming to WSX!” fills the screen before we go back to Sabu falling and hitting some poor loser with an Arabian Facebuster. (B-) Carmen Electra is backstage with Terry Funk. She tries to get a comment from him, but is unsuccessful. (D+) WSX World Championship vs. Career Fans Bring the Weapons Match Steve Corino vs Terry Funk vs Terry offers a handshake but gets spit in his face instead. A wild and blood-filled brawl follows with virtually no resting. Both men use any weapon they can get their hands on and spend about half the match fighting in the crowd. In the ring, Corino hits an Old School Explosion, but only gets two as Terry got his foot on the bottom rope. Corino hits another one to retain his title and end Funk’s career at 17:32. (C) Terry Funk gets a nice ovation from the fans as we fade out. (D) Overall Show Rating: C-

WSX News WSX Boiling Point only got 20,000 buys, even less than last month’s poor showing. It is believed that management is starting to get a little nervous. It is believed that Steve Ross and Vince Russo have come to an understanding. More of Russo’s ideas will be used, but will be heavily edited by Ross, who has final say. Carmen Electra is still dropping hints that while she is happy in her current position, that she would be more useful in some sort of authority figure roll.

4th week of July 2001 WSX on Bravo! Taped at the Premiere Convention Centere in Toronto, Canada in front of a crowd of 1,906 fans. Dark Match: Shane Michaels pins B-Boy following some Sweet Shane Music at 7:06 (C) Dark Angle: April Hunter and Tracy Brooks shoot t-shirts to the fans. (D-) A touching tribute video for Terry Funk airs. (D+) Terry Funk then makes his way to the ring as the fans give him a standing ovation and chant his name. He is handed a mic and stands there, letting everything soak in for a moment, before he speaks. Terry Funk: Thank you. (More cheers.) Thank you all for everything. You know, for the past 35 years I’ve traveled up and down the roads to every arena around the world. I faced everyone big and small, brawler and speedy high-flying acrobats. I faced the good, bad and the uglies. I even won some titles along the way. (Another chant starts up) Some people have been saying for years that I’m passed my prime. They’ve been telling me to hang up my boots. I resisted because I figured that I don’t need to be in my prime to beat someone, I just have to be better than they are. That was what went through my mind when I signed on to put my career on the line at Boiling Point. I thought I would just go out there and do what I’ve been doing for the past several years; will myself to victory. Unfortunately for me, that wasn’t enough this past Saturday. Now, I know some of are saying to yourselves, “We’ve seen you retire before, Terry. You’ll be back before the year is done.” This time it’s different. This time it’s not just my word, it’s an official contract that says that I can never wrestle for anyone ever again. This is really and truly goodbye. (The fans start a “Please don’t go” chant.) I’m sorry, but I have to. Before I go, though, I have one more piece of business I have to take care of. Two weeks ago I told Steve Corino that if he beat me at Boiling Point that I would give him my own personal endorsement. With that, Steve Corino’s music starts up and out walks the WSX World Champion. He gets in the ring and stands face-to-face with Funk. Terry Funk: Steve, Champ, what can I say? You beat me. You did what you said your were going to do and forced me to retire. Now, I can’t speak for the other wrestlers and I can’t speak for these fans, but for my money, you’re the real deal. You’ve proven to me that you are indeed a true champion worthy to lead this organization, just be sure that you lead it in the right direction. Corino takes the mic from Terry. Steve Corino: It’s about time someone saw the light and realized that I speak the truth. Terry Funk everybody! (The fans cheer for Funk for a bit before Corino addresses Funk again.) You can go now. With that, Terry Funk takes his leave to another ovation. (D) Steve Corino stands in the center of the ring. Steve Corino: There he goes, ladies and gentlemen, for the last time. The big question now is; what’s next? Who will step up and challenge me for my World Championship? Who wants to have their brush with greatness? CM Punk’s music plays as he walks down the aisle. Steve Corino: CM Punk, I don’t think so. You’re not ready to challenge me yet, boy. Punk slides into the ring and gets in Corino’s face. Steve Corino. You better back off, Punk. You’re not ready for me. (Punk forces Corino into a corner.) I’ve just ended one career, don’t make me end yours before it even gets started. CM Punk: I’m not going anywhere until you give me my shot. Steve Corino sizes Punk up. Steve Corino: You really think you’re ready, don’t you. (He smirks.) Alright, I’ll grant you your title shot, but not tonight. You already have your hands full with your six man tag match, so I’ll be nice and give you a full week to prepare. Oh, and speaking of your tag match… (C-) Simon Diamond, Samoa Joe and Devon Storm walk out. Tommy Dreamer, CM Punk and Paul London vs. Devon Storm, Simon Diamond and Samoa Joe vs [IMG]http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd153/somenewguy_2007/SimonDiamond.jpg[/IMG] Completely wild match from start to finish with Joe and London brawling all the way to the back, basically changing the match to a traditional tag match. We take our first commercial break during the chaos. Eventually, Punk hits the Pepsi Plunge on Diamond to get the pinfall victory at 15:24. (C+) Joey Styles hypes the Sabu vs. Candido match that we’ll be seeing later tonight. (C+) Chris Hero stands on the ramp and challenges Trent Acid to another match. They are currently tied at one win a piece which means they need to have a rubber match. (E-) Trent Acid walks out and agrees. Pamela joins Styles on commentary and puts over her new “trophy team” as they make a rather easy title defense. The Ballards retain after nailing a Ballard Breaker at 5:04. (D) Pamela grabs a mic and joins her men in the ring. Pamela: That’s right, my men are still the champs and there’s nothing any of you can do about it. There is not a tag team in the world, let alone in this company, that can take the belts off of the Ballard Brothers, the best tag team going today. (E+) Alicia Webb is standing by with Chris Candido. Chris says that while Sabu may be a wild man, he isn’t a very smart man. Candido will use his brains and wrestling finesse to tame him. (C-) Commercials Marty Jannetty vs. Kid Kash vs Joey Styles puts this match over as put-up-or-shut-up time for Kash. Marty schools Kid for a good portion of the match. Kash finds a way to take over for bit, but it doesn’t take long for Jannetty to figure Kash out and make a comeback. Jannetty signals for the Rocker Dropper, but Kash sees this and bails to the outside. He takes a walk as the ref counts him out at 9:56 as Jannetty looks on with confusion and disappointment. (C-) Commercials Alicia Webb stands in the ring with the Nu-Wave Runners. They say that they were looking over their shoulders all day during Boiling Point due to Jimmy Yang and Low-Ki’s threat to take their revenge on them. If Yang and Ki still want their rematch, they got it. (D) Low-Ki and Jimmy Yang show up at the entrance way and say that it will be their pleasure to humiliate the Runners and prove their superiority once and for all. (D) Marty is seen backstage walking with a purpose. He spots Kid Kash untying his boots in a locker room. Marty walks up to him. Marty: Hey! What the hell was that all about?! What kind of a man walks out a match? Kid Kash: Go away, Marty. Marty: You’ve been running your mouth about how great you are, and when it’s time to prove it… you walked away. It’s one thing to try and fail, it’s another thing to just give up. Kid Kash: Yeah, well, maybe I’m not as great as I say I am. Marty: You think? (he sits next to Kash) Listen kid, not everyone who laces up a pair of wrestling boots is destined to become a legend. Look at me. I’ve had my share of success, but I’ll never be named one of the greatest of the week, let alone of all time. At the end of the day, all a man can do is his best. You understand? Kid nods his head. (D-) Kyoko Inoue and Alexis Laree vs. Akira Hokuto and Allison Corino vs Solid if somewhat sloppy match up that sees Alexis scoring the pinfall on Akira following a spike DDT at 7:16. (D-) Commercials Footage of the bikini contest from Boiling Point is shown. (C+) Sabu vs. Chris Candido vs A very fun and solid bout, thanks in part to Candido’s in-ring generalship. Sabu hits most of his signature spots to great crowd reaction. End comes after Sabu hits his triple moonsault for the pin at 11:52. (C) Overall Show Rating: C OOC: Anyone have any comments? Any and all feedback is welcome!

WSS News WSX on Bravo scored a 1.94 off of half hours of 1.95, 1.94 and 1.93. It appears as though Terry Funk has in fact retired from in-ring duties. He apparently gave his notice back in June stating that his body just can’t take the abuse anymore. Steven Ross had tried his best to convince Terry to change his mind, but to no avail. Terry has expressed his desire to work alongside Joey Styles as a color-commentator though no official decision has been made. It is highly unlikely that WSX will just let him go as Terry is one of the few locker room leaders in the promotion, something that they need more of. WSX are currently in negotiations with several high profile people. The reason Steven Ross has given more creative duties to Vince Russo is due to the constant pressure of running the promotion. It seems like the constant meetings, stroking of egos, marketing, negotiations and budgeting is starting to get to him and felt that letting someone help him write the shows would relieve some of that pressure. There are rumors that Joey Styles has also sat in on some of the booking meetings.

End comes after a double clothesline spot that leads to a double pin. We have a draw at 10:48. (C-) Commercials Chris Candido stands backstage looking angry. Candido: Sabu, last week you came here looking to make a statement. You made that statement at my expense. Well, guess what? I’m nobody’s stepping stone. Last week was a fluke! It’ll never happen again. Sabu, if you got the guts, what do you say we tear down the house one more time? (D+) Alica Webb stands by with the Nu-Wave Runners. They barely even acknowledge their upcoming match with the Shanes. Instead, they talk about knocking Jimmy Yang and Low-Ki down a few notches. (E+) Commercials A hype video for WSX Women’s Champion Kyoko Inoue airs. It details her championship win and reign. Tracy gets eliminated about two minutes in after Allison pins her with an Oklahoma Roll. Allison and Aja team up on Alexis for a bit until Aja turns on Allison and hits her with a Uraken. Aja pins Allison at about the five minute mark. Alexis tries to brawl with Aja and gets caught on a cross body press attempt. Aja dominates the rest of the match and hits another Uraken on Alexis for the pin and title shot at 7:45. (D+) Commercials A nervous looking Alicia Webb is in the Ring with Samoa Joe. Alicia: Samoa Joe, ever since Initiation everyone on the WSX roster has had to watch their back because of your unpredictable attacks. Recently, someone has stepped up to challenge you. Samoa Joe: Yeah, Paul London, everybody’s new hero has taken it upon himself to take on the most dangerous man in wrestling today. He may have stepped up, but I will knock him down. It he gets up, I’ll knock him down again and again until he just stops moving. In the end he will be just another victim on my road of… WHACK!!! Paul London blindsides Joe with a chair shot, sending him outside. London tosses the chair at Joe and follows up with a suicide dive. They brawl all around ringside smashing each other into the steps, ringpost, announce table, and guardrail as security and officials run down to separate them. (D) Commercials Tommy Dreamer, The Sandman and Mikey Whipwreck vs. Eric Angle, Devon Storm and David Flair. vs The ref looses control early until Mikey gets trapped in the wrong corner. He screams for help between escape attempts. He eventually tags Sandman in, which causes another big brawl. Tommy gets tagged in. He does well for a while when Eric Angle snaps off an Angle Slam on him. Tag to David, who struts over to Tommy. Figure-four attempt gets countered to a small package. Tommy Dreamer scores the pin at 12:45. (C-) Commercials Alicia Webb is with WSX World Champion Steve Corino. Alicia: Mr. Corino, last week you issued an open challenge for your WSX World Championship. CM Punk answered, and you said that he isn’t ready to face you. Doesn’t the courage he showed in accepting your challenge prove his worth? Steve Corino: Not at all, Alicia. All that little Punk did was show that his bark is worse than his bite. When I looked him in the eye in the middle of the ring last week, I saw the truth. I saw the real CM Punk. I looked into his eyes and I saw doubt. I saw that CM Punk had second thoughts about facing me, but he had too much pride to turn away. No, he couldn’t do that in front of his fans. So now, tonight, I’ll be defending my championship against a man whose already been beaten. I told him that he’s not ready to face me, and he knows it. Deep down inside, he knows it. Tonight, in just a few minutes, all of his fans will know it too. (D-) WSX World Tag Team Champions the Ballard Brothers, with their manager Pamela Paulshock, make their way to the ring. Pamela grabs a mic. Pamela: Well, we made the challenge last week and after considering all of the applicants, we’ve decided to grant a title match against… Air Styles! (E+) Air Styles appear on the big screen. AJ Styles: Wow, thanks Pamela. Air Paris: Wow, nice legs, Pamela. AJ Styles: Wow, nice looking belts, Ballards. Air Paris: They’ll look even nicer around our waists. Pamela: You’ll get your shot next week, boys. Until then. The big screen shuts off. Pamela and the Ballards pose with the tag belts as their music plays and we’re sent to a … (D-) Commercial Break Nu-Wave Runners vs. The Shanes vs The Runners hit all their big spots and win without much trouble at 5:34. (D) Low-Ki and Jimmy Yang run in during the Runners’ celebration and blindside them, leaving the Runners laying flat on their backs. (E+) Commercials Alicia Webb stands at the interview area with CM Punk. Alicia: Mr. CM, you heard the comments made to you by WSX World Champion Steve Corino. CM Punk: Yeah, I did. He wants to talk big about himself, that’s fine. He wants to say that I’m not ready, that’s cool too. That kind of talk just fires me up even more. Then he had to take it a step further. He said claims to have seen doubt in my eyes. Now, first off all, I don’t appreciate any dudes looking deep into my eyes. Maybe Steve Corino is into that, but I’m not. As for doubt, yeah I do have a few doubts. I doubt the existence of aliens from outer-space. I doubt that Shark Boy will ever take his mask off. Most of all, I doubt that Steve Corino will be walking out of here tonight with the WSX World Championship belt. (C) A hype video for Sabu vs. Chris Candido airs. That match will happen next week. (D+) WSX World Championship Steve Corino vs. CM Punk vs Both men run their mouth during the pre-match instructions. Punk offers a handshake at the bell, only to be slapped. Punk unloads on Corino and looks to finish early. A thumb to the eye foils that. Corino goes outside, Punk follows with a plancha as we take our last break. We come back to Corino locked in the Devil’s Lock, but he makes the ropes. Punk goes up top, but misses a missile dropkick, injuring his knee in the process. Corino goes after the knee and spends the next several minutes destroying it. Punk makes several failed comeback attempts, each one getting cut shorter than the last. Corino locks in an Indian Deathlock. Punk eventually makes the ropes, but can’t even stand. Corino looks at him, shakes his head, and hit’s the Old School Explosion. Steve Corino wins by pin at 16:25. (C+) Afterwards, Simon Diamond runs down and hit’s the Problem Solver on Punk. Diamond makes his own count and celebrates as though he won a match, grabbing the mic and telling all the fans that they just witnessed him pinning CM Punk and calling him a two-time loser. 1st week of August 2001 WSX News The latest episode of WSX on Bravo! scored a 1.92 rating. They did this off of half hour ratings of 1.91, 1.91, and 1.94. There is talk of brining in a local southern California wrestler/valet named Shelly Martinez. Shelly is known to SoCal indy wrestling fans as Desire. WSX has come to an agreement with Jim Cornette. He is being given a huge role backstage as he will act as a road agent, a creative consultant, and as WSX owner Steven Ross’ right hand man. It is also hoped that Cornette will be a positive influence to everyone backstage and help calm the sometimes chaotic locker room. The door has also been left open for an on-camera roll should the need arise.

2nd Week of August 2001 Taped at the Royal Brougham Pavillion in Seattle, Washington in front of a sold out crowd of 2,000 fans. Dark Match: Alexis Laree pinned Tracy Brooks following a spike DDT at 4:42. (D-) Post-match, the two women shook hands and shot out t-shirts to the fans. (D) Dark Match: Carly Colon pinned CW Anderson at 8:57. (C+) WSX On Bravo! Carmen Electra welcomes us to the show. (C+) WSX World Tag Team Championship The Ballard Brothers (w/Pamela Paulshock) vs. Air Styles w/ vs Fun fast-paced match-up to kick off the show. Air Styles seemed to be one step ahead of the champs throughout the whole match. Not even Paulshock’s attempts at distraction or interference worked. In the end, however, the Ballards pull the old switch-a-roo and get a roped assisted pinfall victory to retain their titles at 9:50. (C-) The Ballards and Pamela celebrate in the ring as Air Styles look on. They suddenly get a gleam in their eyes and calmly walk over to the table where the tag belts are, and take them. Air styles then quickly make their way to the back as the champs and their manager catch on to the theft and give chase. (D-) Commercials We come back as the Ballards chase Air Styles all around the backstage area. Air Styles finally are able to hop into their rental car and speed away. (D-) Joey Styles sends us to a pre-taped message from Simon Diamond. Diamond: Simon had a Punk problem, but that problem was solved last week after I pinned him right in the middle of the ring. Now it seems as though Simon has a problem with another spotlight hog. Tonight I will end that problem and go on to glory. (D) WSX women’s Championship Kyoko Inoue vs. Allison Corino vs A rather easy night for Kyoko as she as little difficulty schooling the much-less experienced challenger. Kyoko wins by pinfall following a Niagara Driver at 7:38. (D+) Post-match, Aja Kong walks onto the entrance and signals that she’s coming for Kyoko’s title. Joey Styles tells us that we will see the match at Meltdown. (E) A hype video lets us know that Christopher Daniels is coming to WSX. (C) Commercials We come back to see CM Punk walking into the building. Alicia Webb is right there with a mic. Alicia: Mr. CM, you’re not scheduled to be here tonight. CM Punk: I know, but Vince Russo is announcing Steve Corino’s opponent for the WSX World Championship at Meltdown. After the show I put on last week, I’m sure Vinnie will give me the nod. (C) Paul London vs. Kid Kash vs Competitive match that is even for the most part. London comes on strong and looks to put Kash away when Samoa Joe runs in for the DQ at 7:42. (C) Joe and London brawl in the ring as officials and security swarm in and eventually manage to pull Joe and London apart. (D-) Vince Russo walks out with a mic. Russo: Enough is enough! Every week it’s the same thing with you two! I’ve had it up to here with you guys fighting in the ring, around the ring, in the crowd, in the concession stands… it needs to end! And it will. We have a Pay-Per-View coming up in a couple weeks called Meltdown, and both of you will be in it. At Meltdown it’s going to be Paul London vs. Samoa Joe in a Last Man Standing Match! (D) WSX World Champion Steve Corino walks out with a mic. (C) Corino: Well done, Vince. It seems as though you’re in a decision making mood. Perhaps you can tell me who you decided my opponent will be at Meltdown. Russo: I’m glad you asked, Steve. Your opponent for Meltdown will be a man who defines what it takes to make it in this business. A man who’s continuous show of desire, courage and heart has earned him the respect of everybody in this industry. Corino: I’m wrestling myself? Russo: No, you’re wrestling Tommy Dreamer! (C-) Dreamer walks out and stands face-to-face with Corino. Corino: Dreamer, you may have all those qualities that Russo just talked about, but one thing you are not is Championship material. In this world, sometimes it’s not enough to just wish for something or to even work for it. Sometimes, you simply are not good enough to reach your goals. Tommy Dreamer, you may have more heart than anyone else, but it’s gonna take a lot more than that to take my belt away from me. Dreamer snatches the mic from Corino and smiles at him. Dreamer: I’m going to take that title out of your hands just like how I took this microphone. You talk about championship material, well, let me tell you exactly what I’m made of. I have the toughest skin in this business, nothing anyone can say can rattle me. I have an unbreakable fighting spirit, and I have something that you will never have; them. Dreamer points to the fans as they start to loudly cheer. Dreamer: I have the best fans this industry has ever seen. Steve Corino, the bottom line is this, we’re going to main event Meltdown in three weeks and only one of us is going home with the WSX World Championship and that man… Steve Corino swats the mic away from Dreamer. The two men have a staredown as we go to... Commercials Nu-Wave Runners vs. Jimmy Yang and Low-Ki vs This was the match of the night. Both teams went full-tilt putting on a great mixture of amazing spots and devastatingly stiff strikes. Spanky hits Sliced-bread #2 on Low-Ki to pick up the win at 12:32. (C+) Commercials Trent Acid walks out with a mic and says that nothing was settled between him and Chris Hero since their match went to a draw last week. Naturally, he wants a rematch with Hero. (D-) The Sandman is backstage and says that Eric Angle has been making life miserable for him. He wants to return the favor and challenges Angle to a hardcore match. (D) Commercials Sabu vs. Chris Candido vs Good match that saw Candido learn from their previous match and dodging or countering some of Sabu’s spots forcing Sabu to come up with some new stuff. Sabu gains the advantage and looks to put Candido away when Simon Diamond runs in and attacks Sabu for the DQ at 9:34 (C) Diamond and Candido go to work on Sabu when CM Punk runs in with a chair to make the save. 3rd week of August 2001 Taped at the Burr Gym in Washington, D.C. in front of a sold out crowd of 2,000 fans. Dark Match: Teddy Hart pins Daivari at 5:34 (C) Dark Match: Allison Corino pins April Hunter at 5:13 (D) WSX On Bravo! We open with a video package highlighting the Corino vs. Dreamer feud. (C) Paul London and Samoa Joe vs. Eric Angle and Devon Storm vs Angle and Storm attack Joe and London at the bell. Joe wants to do all the work for his team at first, but gets overwhelmed by his opponents and makes the tag to London, who cleans house. London and Joe seem to get along for a bit when a miscommunication leads to Joe getting smacked by London, so Joe hits London with a belly to belly suplex. Joe seems to abandon London but has a change of heart and gets back to his corner. Hot tag to Joe and Joe goes into a suplexing frenzy on Storm and Angle when London suddenly hits Joe with a blockbuster! London slides out of the ring and up the aisle as Storm and Angle quickly polish Joe off with their respective finishers leading to Angle pinning Joe at 11:32 (C) Another hype video for Christopher Daniels airs. (D) Commercials WSX world Champion Steve Corino arrives and is in an all business mood. He shoves the camera away as he enters the building. (C-) Kyoko Inoue vs. Jazz (Non-title) vs This is a non-title match. Kyoko tries to match power with Jazz and quickly regrets that decision as Jazz takes over, working on Kyoko’s back. Kyoko hits some strikes on Jazz and goes to trying to outwrestle Jazz, which works much better. Aja Kong shows up which distracts Kyoko enough to cost her the match. Jazz picks up the pinfall victory at 6:42. (D+) Kyoko glares at Aja, who smiles back at her as we take another break. (F+) Commercials The Ballard Brothers and Pamela Paulshock make their way to the ring. Pamela has the mic. Pamela: My name is Pamela Paulshock and I manage the reigning WSX World Tag Team Champions the Ballard Brothers. So what’s wrong with this picture? That’s right, the champs are missing their title belts. Last week my men were victorious in their defense against Air Styles. While we, the winners, were celebrating, the losers, Air Styles, acted like little rotten children and stole our belts. Air Paris, AJ Styles, we are demanding the return of our titles right now, and we are not leaving this ring until you do! (D) Air Styles appear on the big screen. They are at the beach, reclining in their chairs and sipping on a beverage. Around their waists are the tag belts. They wave at the camera. Air Paris: Hi everyone! Man, I gotta tell ya, being a titleholder sure has its perks. AJ Styles: It sure does, Paris. We’ve been keeping a video diary all week long, and, well, take a look. “Eye of the Tiger” plays over the video. We first see Air Styles at an ice cream shop. They get their cones as the cashier holds his hand out for the money. The “champs” point at their titles, the cashier smiles, and Air Styles go on their way. Air Styles walk into a car dealership, point at their belts, then point at the most expensive looking car and drive off in it. Air Styles walk into a fancy restaurant wearing tuxedoes and coat. They pull back their coats to reveal the belts and everyone stands and applauds. They are immediately seated and have delicious looking food placed before them. We then see AJ Styles taking a shower with the belt still around his waist. Air Paris is then seen using the belt as a mirror as he fixes his hair and checks his teeth. Finally, we see Air Styles at the beach with the belts still on. A bunch of hot girls see them and start running over to them. Of course, as the girls run we switch to slow-motion and the music changes to the Baywatch theme. We return to Air Styles in their chairs with their drinks. AJ Styles: As you saw, we really like this kind of lifestyle, and want to keep it going. We also know that we are not really the champs, so Air Paris and I have come to a decision; we’ll return the belts to you next week if you grant us a title shot at Meltdown. Air Paris: You guys got a week to think it over, cause that’s when Air Styles returns to the ring when we face those Shanes. (D-) Commercials Chris Hero is in the ring with a mic. He grants Trent Acid his rematch. (D-) Chris Hero, Carly Colon, Shane Michaels and Shark Boy vs. Trent Acid, CW Anderson, Frankie Kazarian and B-Boy vs Everyone got their moment to shine in this one. Shane hit B-Boy with a superkick to give his team the win at 11:47. (D+) Jimmy Yang and Low-Ki go into Vince Russo’s office and ask for another match with the Nu-Wave Runners. Since he was impressed with their last match and the fans also really liked it, he grants their request. The match will happen at Meltdown. (D) Commercials Alicia Webb is with Eric Angle and Devon Storm in the locker room area. Angle accepts Sandman’s hardcore match, but it won’t be one-on-one. He wants a tag match, himself and Devon against Sandman and anyone dumb enough to be his partner. (D) Super Calo vs. Kid Kash vs A very good match up that sees Kash pick up his first victory at 9:40 after using the ropes on a roll-up. (C+) Kid Kash celebrates as though he just won a title when Alicia Webb walks out to interview him. Kash grabs her mic and proclaims this moment the single greatest moment not only in the wrestling world, but in the entire history of the universe. (D-) A hype video for Tommy Dreamer airs. His match is next. (C-) Tommy Dreamer and CM Punk vs. Chris Candido and Simon Diamond vs [IMG]http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd153/somenewguy_2007/SimonDiamond.jpg[/IMG] Punk goes right after Diamond and dominates him until Candido nails Punk with a cheap shot. Candido gets tagged in and immediately starts to wear Punk down. Punk nearly falls to a sleeper hold but fights back. He nearly tags Dreamer but Candido knocks him down and drags him over to Diamond. The heels pound Punk down as Diamond gets tagged back in. Punk makes another comeback and gets the hot tag to Dreamer. The fans cheer loudly as Dreamer goes after both heels. Candido gets tossed to the outside and Dreamer looks ready to put Diamond away when Steve Corino shows up and distracts him by blindsiding Punk. Candido and Diamond recover and start to take Dreamer apart as the ref is clearly losing control of the match. Dreamer is set up to receive a Doomsday Device when Sabu runs down with a chair and levels Candido and Diamond with it. The ref has no choice but to throw this match out at 12:54 (C+) Corino attacks Sabu from behind with Punk following him. Sabu, Punk and Dreamer smack Corino around until Candido and Diamond revive. It then turns into a six man brawl. Show Rating: C+

The injury is not considered to be dangerous and he will work through the pain. Speaking of WSX wrestlers working through pain, David Flair has continued working matches outside the WSX on a regular basis. This, of course, is causing Flair's recovery time to constantly extend. Management at WSX are not happy about Flair's lack of care for his own health and are unlikely to use him on any shows until he has fully recovered.
