Diary starts on 11/1! Recap of recent events, final 11/2 card by DEAN - 1 Nov 2007 After successfully completing his V4 defense against Jr. legend Koji Kanemoto, Ryusuke Taguchi was exuberantly happy during his post-match interview. Claiming he was honored to defeat such a star in Kanemoto, he also stated he is looking forward to his next defense which is presently unscheduled. Furthermore, final standings of the G1 Tag League are as follows: 1. Hiroshi Tanahashi & Koji Kanemoto [8] - Hirooki Goto & Milano Collection AT [8] 3. Yuji Nagata & Manabu Nakanishi [7] - Togi Makabe & Toru Yano [7] - Jado & Gedo [7] - Masahiro Chono & Akebono [7] 7. Takashi Iizuka & Naofumi Yamamoto [6] - Giant Bernard & Travis Tomko [6] That means that the G1 Tag League final will put Tanahashi and Goto in the same ring only 9 days before Goto's shot at Tanahashi's IWGP Heavyweight Title on the 11/11 Sumo Hall event. The full card for the 11/2 Korakuen show is as follows: NJPW, 11/2/07 (SXW) Tokyo Korakuen Hall 1. Wataru Inoue vs. Taichi Ishikari 2. Gedo & Jado vs. Ryusuke Taguchi & El Samurai 3. [Results] New Japan, 11/2/07 by DEAN - 2 Nov 2007 --> "NEW JAPAN 35TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR ~ CIRCUIT 2007 TRUTH ~G1 TAG LEAGUE FINAL~" <-- After winning not only the G1 Climax, and the IWGP Heavyweight Title, Hiroshi Tanahashi can add another notch on his belt after today. Hiroshi Tanahashi and Jr. partner Koji Kanemoto won the G1 Tag League today, becoming the first ever Heavy/Jr. team to win the league. These two teams threw everything they had at one another, and Milano even managed to lock Tanahashi in his Milankatame, the move that Tanahashi submitted to back on 10/21. Goto even kicked out of a Tanahashi Dragon Suplex Hold. Eventually, Tanahashi managed to hit a High Fly Flow on Milano, the same move that won him the G1 Climax and the IWGP title. Furthermore, the confrontations between Hirooki Goto and Tanahashi became even more heated, as they are still set to fight for the IWGP Heavyweight title on 11/11 at the Sumo Hall. Tanahashi and Kanemoto are now primed for a shot at the IWGP Tag Team Titles, held by Giant Bernard and Travis Tomko. Could Hiroshi Tanahashi become a double champion in the near future? Tanahashi has taken the role of a true company ace, winning both leagues in one year, alongside winning the IWGP Heavyweight title for the second time. Also, the rivalry between two of NJPW's hottest factions, BLACK and Legend, came to a heated encounter today when they met in an intense 8-man tag. BLACK's unofficial leader, Shinsuke Nakamura, is still out with injury, but his addition to the fray is bound to add to the conflict. BLACK were on the losing end today, and Legend seem to be showing that despite their collective age, they can still fight with the best NJPW has to offer. Can BLACK rebound when Nakamura returns? The Jr. division seems to be as hot as ever at the moment, with contenders to both the IWGP Jr. and IWGP Jr. Tag Team titles prominent all over the roster. Inoue, semi-finalist of the Best of the Super Jr. tournament, defeated Taichi Ishikari, while Gedo and Jado upset the team of Jr. Heavweight champion Ryusuke Taguchi and El Samurai. Also, Jushin Thunder Liger and AKIRA, of Legend, said that they may considering concentrating on the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team titles, which will be defended on 11/11. NJPW, 11/2/07 (SXW) Tokyo Korakuen Hall 10,000 Fans - Super No Vacancy 1. Wataru Inoue beat Taichi Ishikari (9:02) with a Triangle Lancer. These two didn't click at all. Although Ishikari is improving, this match did not start off the crowd on a good note. Rating: C-. 2. Gedo & Jado beat Ryusuke Taguchi & El Samurai (11:52) when Gedo used the Superfly Splash on El Samurai. Bad stuff here. Don't know what happened, Taguchi & Samurai aren't the greatest team either though. Rating: D+. 3. Togi Makabe & Tomohiro Ishii beat Takashi Uwano & Tiger Mask (10:52) when Makabe used a German Suplex Hold on Uwano. Not that bad, but nothing great. Makabe looked good, and Uwano is improving. Rating: C-. 4. Manabu Nakanishi beat Toru Yano (13:40) with a Mt. Fuji German Suplex Hold. Best stuff of the night so far. Yano is improving. Fun encounter. Rating: B-. 5. Yuji Nagata, Mitsuhide Hirasawa & Yujiro beat Takashi Iizuka, Naofumi Yamamoto & Tetsuya Naito (16:51) when Nagata used the Nagata Lock III on Naito. Nagata shone, but the rookies were relatively flustered by this kind of match. Not horrible, but not great. Hirasawa and Yujiro seem to be improving. Rating: C-. 6. BLACK vs. Legend: Jushin Thunder Liger, AKIRA, Masahiro Chono & Super Strong Machine beat Giant Bernard, Travis Tomko, Prince Devitt & Minoru (20:08) when Chono used a Kenka Kick on Tomko. Fun match, nothing phenomenal. Chono and Liger came off looking really good. Tomko seems to be really getting better in a New Japan environment, and Minoru is getting better as well. Rating: B-. 7. G1 Tag League - Final: Hiroshi Tanahashi & Koji Kanemoto beat Hirooki Goto & Milano Collection AT (21:52) when Tanahashi used the High Fly Flow on Milano. Great stuff here. Tanahashi is emitting off the aura of a true ace, while Goto was showing some heat in his exchanges with Tanahashi. Milano is still improving in these big match environments, and everything clicked quite well. Rating: B (Match of the Night). Final Rating: B-.

[Results] New Japan, 11/11/07 by DEAN - 11 Nov 2007 Hiroshi Tanahashi was successful in his V1 defense against up-and-coming heavyweight Hirooki Goto. In the main event of a 10-match, 2 and a half-hour show, Tanahashi pinned Goto after a High Fly Flow, which seems to be the most powerful move in Tanahashi's arsenal. Goto hit Tanahashi with his amazing Shouten finisher, but Tanahashi kicked out only to deliver a Dragon Suplex Hold for a 2 count. After countering a second Shouten attempt with an Enzugiri/Sling Blade combination, Tanahashi hit his High Fly Flow for the victory. After the match, Tanahashi said he was impressed with Goto, saying that he is a future IWGP Heavyweight Champion. Tanahashi ended by saying that he is going to show the world that he is the best IWGP Heavyweight Champion in New Japan history, leaving to a crowd responding in mixed reaction to Tanahashi's subtle arrogance. Also, Dick Togo and TAKA Michinoku retained their IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Titles, and claimed they wanted to break all previous title records, and defend their belts successfully more than any other IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team ever. Many thought Gedo and Jado would begin their 5th reign tonight, but Togo and Michinoku pulled out an upset of sorts in a fast-paced, high-intensity Jr. tag. New Japan won the initial battle against TNA tonight, winning 2 of the 3 matches. Toru Yano lost the first encounter to Rhino, while Tiger Mask went on to defeat Ron Killings, and BLACK's Minoru and Prince Devitt defeated TNA's X-Division representatives of Christopher Daniels and Senshi. The Jr. tag match was quite impressive, and gave NJPW a heads up on the ongoing confrontation between the two promotions that is going to culminate at the 1/4/08 Tokyo Dome event. Furthermore, BLACK won their other tag match, in which IWGP Tag Team Champion Giant Bernard pinned Yuji Nagata. Bernard has been on somewhat of a streak as of late, and has just pinned a formed IWGP Heavyweight Champion. BLACK still awaits the return of unofficial leader Shinsuke Nakamura. In one last note, Jushin Thunder Liger pinned IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion Ryusuke Taguchi in the Jr. 8-man tag. Will Liger vie for another shot at the Jr. belt? NJPW "DESTRUCTION '07", 11/11/07 (WPW/PPV) Tokyo Ryogoku Kokugikan 10,000 Fans - Super No Vacancy 1. Takashi Iizuka beat Mitsuhide Hirasawa (5:43) with a Blizzard Suplex. Decent opener. Hirasawa and Iizuka have great chemistry, and it showed. Iizuka came out of the match looking really good. Rating: C+. 2. Jushin Thunger Liger, AKIRA, Taichi Ishikari & Yujiro beat Wataru Inoue, Tetsuya Naito, El Samurai & Ryusuke Taguchi (11:08) when Liger used a Brainbuster on Taguchi. Average match. AKIRA was wrestling injured, so that slowed the match down a bit. Liger looked really good. Inoue and Naito are still improving. Rating: C. 3. Koji Kanemoto beat Takashi Uwano (7:38) with a Falcon Arrow. Nothing special. These two didn't click and it showed. Rating: C-. 4. GBH vs. TNA ~ SPEAR or GORE: Rhino beat Toru Yano (10:01) with the Gore. What was expected from these two. A brawl. Nothing great. Rating: C-. 5. New Japan vs. TNA: Tiger Mask beat Ron Killings (11:31) with a Tiger Suplex Hold. Once again, a decent match. Not much to be said. Rating: C. 6. GBH vs. Legend: Masahiro Chono, Akebono & Super Strong Machine beat Togi Makabe, Tomoaki Honma & Tomohiro Ishii (13:23) when Machine used the Devil Windmill Suplex on Honma. Makabe & Chono looked really good out there, but nothing out of the ordinary. Makabe and Honma seem to be improving. A rather tame performance, but a good one, especially for Akebono. Rating: C. 7. New Japan Jr. vs. TNA X Division ~J or X~: Minoru & Prince Devitt beat Christopher Daniels & Senshi (17:33) when Minoru used the Minoru Special on Daniels. Best match of the night so far. Minoru looked really good, and this match got the crowd going. All 4 men clicked well. Some nice action. Rating: B-. 8. BLACK vs. New Japan: Travis Tomko, Giant Bernard & Milano Collection AT beat Yuji Nagata, Manabu Nakanishi & Naofumi Yamamoto (13:05) when Bernard used the Bernard Driver on Nagata. Back to the average matches. This should have been better. Nagata stood out though. Rating: C. 9. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Titles: Dick Togo & TAKA Michinoku (c) beat Gedo & Jado (12:37) when TAKA used a Michinoku Driver II on Gedo (2nd defense). A better match. Similar to the BLACK vs. TNA Jr. tag. Rating: B-. 10. IWGP Heavyweight Title: Hiroshi Tanahashi (c) beat Hirooki Goto (24:43) with the High Fly Flow (1st defense). Match suffered due to a lack of selling. Still got the crowd hot and put on a good performance. Rating: B (Match of the Night). Final Rating: B-.

11/23~12/9 Full Cards/Two big IWGP matches by DEAN - 16 Nov 2007 At the most recent NJPW press conference, two huge IWGP title matches were announced in sort of a deal between two competitors. G1 Tag League winners Hiroshi Tanahashi and Koji Kanemoto vied for their shot at the IWGP Tag Team Titles, held by Giant Bernard & Travis Tomko. Bernard and Tomko accepted the challenge, on one condition: that Giant Bernard would receive a shot at Hiroshi Tanahashi's IWGP Heavyweight Title. Bernard has put up some impressive wins as of late, including pinning ex-champ Yuji Nagata, and was already a top contender in the eyes of NJPW officials. This will be Tanahashi's second shot at Bernard and Tomko's belts, as he was pinned by Bernard when he and Naofumi Yamamoto challenged Bernard and Tomko on 7/8/07. Both matches were signed, and they will take place on the final 2 days of the tour. Also, 2 other IWGP matches were signed for the 12/9 event. Jushin Thunder Liger has officially issued a challenge to the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title, and it has been confirmed and accepted. In his first shot at the belt since 2005, one of the greatest Jr. champions of all time will take on veteran-beating phenomenon Ryusuke Taguchi. Also, Dick Togo & TAKA Michinoku will defend their IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Titles, this time against the Italy Brothers/members of BLACK, Minoru & Milano Collection AT. Also, it should be noted that Kazuchika Okada's debut will be on the NJPW show the day before the Lock Up show. NJPW, 11/23/07 Koshigaya Katsura Studio 1. Gedo vs. Takashi Uwano 2. [Results] New Japan, 12/8/07 by DEAN - 8 Dec 07 Giant Bernard and Travis Tomko successfully defended their titles for the fifth time today, and this one was over IWGP Heavyweight Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi and Koji Kanemoto. There was heated back-and-forth action between Bernard and Tanahashi, but in the end, a Bernard Bomb on Kanemoto sealed the win for the gaijin team. Bernard has a shot at Tanahashi's title tomorrow night, and his momentum may just carry him to another win. Also, Legend and GBH were involved in a heated 10-man brawl, that was all over the arena. In another contest, IWGP Jr. Tag champs Dick Togo and TAKA Michinoku were disqualified in their tag match against Tiger Mask and Kazuchika Okada when Dick Togo disregarded referee warnings and attacked Tiger Mask with a chair. Technically, Tiger and Okada won the match, so they may campaign for a shot at the Jr. Tag straps. Also, AKIRA's injury has become quite severe, and he was replaced on the card, with some other small modifications to other matches. AKIRA and El Samurai will be unable to compete on the 12/9 show as well, and small changes will also be made to that card to compensate for their injuries. --> "NEW JAPAN 35TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR ~ CIRCUIT 2007 NEW JAPAN ALIVE" <-- NJPW, 12/8/07 Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium #2 4,086 Fans - No Vacancy 1. Bernard, who pinned Koji Kanemoto last night to retain the IWGP Tag Team Titles, used his brute strength and power for most of the match, but even his high impact Bernard Bomb and Bernard Driver could not put Tanahashi away. Tanahashi used his High Fly Flow to knock the wind out of his larger opponent, and defeated Giant Bernard in a IWGP Heavyweight Title match for the second time in his career, the first of which was in July of 2006, when Tanahashi used the Sling Blade to defeat Bernard in the tournament to crown the vacant IWGP Heavyweight Champion. After the match, Tanahashi spoke about how no one in NJPW is on his level, and he is more than willing to defend the title against anyone from anywhere. He also issued a challenge to TNA wrestling, demanding them to send him their greatest wrestler so he can prove that no one from Japan or the U.S. will be able to take his title away from him. In other major news, Jushin Liger defeated IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion Ryusuke Taguchi to win the title for a record 12th time. Liger last held the title in 1999. It took a lot for the living legend to put away the "Funky Weapon", as Taguchi knew it would be an enormous accomplishment for him to defeat Liger. In the end, Liger walked away with the belt after using his patented Liger Bomb. In another small surprise, IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Champions, outsiders Dick Togo and TAKA Michinoku retained their titles in their V3 defense against BLACK's most experienced Jr. tandem of Minoru and Milano Collection AT. After their disqualification on 12/8, NJPW officialrs have expressed some discontent with Togo and TAKA, but no disciplinary action can be taken against a team that holds a title. Will any NJPW team be able to take the titles off of Togo and TAKA? Also, Masahiro Chono continued his winning ways and pinned Manabu Nakanishi with the Shining Kenka Kick. --> "NEW JAPAN 35TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR ~ CIRCUIT 2007 NEW JAPAN ALIVE" <-- NJPW, 12/9/07 Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium 9,860 Fans - No Vacancy 1.
