If this happenned in real life...

Got a question for the smart MMA fans on these forums. After a 4th Round KO victory of Lefter Oktay, my Heavyweight Champion Raul Hughes was revealed to be out for 6 and a half months with an ankle injury. If this were to happen in real life, what would realistically be done? Would the Heavyweight title be vacated or would he keep the title for the time that he's injured? I'd assume that an interim champion would be crowned, but what would be the best decision in WMMA? Possibly to vacate the title and then give him a rematch when he's fit? Thanks. ;)

6 months? Create an interium title, have the top 2 contenders fight for it. When the 6 months are up have the 2 champs fight and unify the belts. EDIT - To back up the realism, that is exactly what is happening with the UFC WW division right now. Serra is going to be out for a while with a back injury, but is keeping the title. Hughes and GSP are fighting for the interim, and then they are going to unify the two down the road.

It depends on how often you have your belts defended but 6,5 months is basically one title defence so really you can argue that there's no need for an interim title as well. Rampage fought in the beginning of September and he's out until at least early spring, but there's no interim title in the 205 division.

In real life the champion would hold to the belt and no interim belt would be created. Like with Rampage and Sherk, who was out for quite awhile after beating Florian. The reason there is going to be a interim WW belt is because the division was put on hold for so long due to TUF6 and now with Serra being out for an undetermined amount of time the UFC couldn't afford keeping the WW belt on ice any longer. As for your game let Hughes keep the belt 6 months isn't that long he would miss what 1 fight at most.
