Push negates stale character?

I've mentioned this in the past but now I'm looking for anyone to support or refute this. Several times now I've had the stale message for a character indicating that a turn is needed in the near future. Each time I haven't bothered with the turn and have instead pushed them, raising them up the card and having them perform in high rated matches and angles. Each time the stale message has disappeared and the worker continues with no ill effects to momentum or overness (Nitro and Mysterio are two examples and are going strong 7 and 5 months later respectively). Am I just getting lucky or has anyone else tried this and had similar results?
