NEW GENERATION WRESTLING (C-Verse)

Recommended Posts

My name is John Avatar and I have a problem… I’m addicted to pro wrestling. Allow me to elaborate. I am 50 years old and a very successful business man. I got into the real estate business when I was just 18 years old and it seems I had a knack for it. By the time I was 25 I made my first million, at 35 I was told I was worth 10 million and I was beginning to get bored with my job. Since I was a kid I’ve watched pro wrestling I grew p watching some of the greats like Rip Chord and The Stomper. As I got more and more engulfed in my job my passion of pro wrestling started to fizzle out. Now sitting on my yacht I was bored of real estate and the state of wrestling in America was getting worse and I was getting sick of it as well. That’s when I made the decision that nearly gave my accountant and long time friend Terry his first heart attack. “You want to do what?” “Come on man think about how fun it will be. This business is running itself now and we have that bingo hall out in Cincinnati Ohio that isn’t selling. We can use that for space. If we are successful not only will we have another source of income but we will be breathing new life into that property.” “You don’t know the first thing about running a wrestling company John, how in the world do you expect to pull a stunt like this off?” “Money.” O.O.C. Alright guys here’s another fun filled attempt of a diary by yours truly. Just think of my character as the C-Verse version of Ted Turner. I know nothing about wrestling except for what I’ve seen on TV. I will be putting 1 million of my own dollars into this company and try to breath life back into the wrestling scene. Will this little stunt be a success for our millionaire or will he fall on his face like so many people before. Only time will tell.

1 Dec 2006 Inside the Cincinnati Bingo Hall “Wow man this place is really a dump, and those police sirens seem to be getting closer. Why did we buy this place to begin with?” “Opportunity my friend, I got this property for 50,000 dollars I’ve eventually put another 50,000 into it then in a year sell it for 500,000.” “Um… the back door is…well there isn’t one. And there seems to be a few squatters in the main hall.” “ I’ll take care of all the repairs Terry don’t worry about that. What I need you to do is find me consultant who has been around the business who I can trust. It’s important that they not be an active wrestler. We all know you can’t trust them to make any booking decisions." “What ever you say boss, when do you think this place will be ready to go?” “First of the year we’ll be able to have actually meetings here and it will be the best looking office in all of Ohio, you can bet on that.” “Ever think about giving some of your money to the homeless, or less fortunate?” “I don’t pay you to get all political and soft on me Terry. I have a business to run. And besides we all know they would just use that money on whores and alcohol. That’s how they got on the street to begin with.” “Merry Christmas to you too John.”

15 Dec 06 At the main office in New York City, New York “You wanted to see me boss?” “New Generation Wrestling!” “Um… sorry I’ve never heard of them.” “Of course you haven’t idiot! That’s going to be the name of our company. Has a nice ring don’t you think?” “It has potential yes, have you thought of a product? Personally I think something more traditional would be a great change of pace for a new company in the US.” “Nonsense! Sports Entertainment is the best thing to happen to wrestling. The problem is all these “big” promotions are horrible at thinking up storylines. Our vision here at NGW is to combine great athletes with great storytelling. Here’s how I think it should be divided up.” Match Intensity: 20% Match Danger: 40% Women’s Wrestling: None T&A Level: Low Face/Heel Divide: Medium Traditional: Medium Mainstream: Key Feature Comedy: Low Cult: Low Risqué: Medium Modern: Heavy Realism/Hyper Realism: None Hardcore: Low Lucha Libre: None Pure: None Dare Devil: Medium “This is going to be the product that makes this company millions Terry, now how’s that search for consultants going?” “I think I’ve found the perfect person” Terry said as he slid a folder across the desk. I flipped through the pages and stared at the picture as Terry gave me the low down on who would hopefully be our first employee. “His name is Dylan Sidle he used to be a promising young wrestler, that is until he stepped into the ring with Alex Braun and suffered from a severe concussion. He has stayed in the business ever since working as a very respected road agent.” “Have we made an offer yet?” “Not anything official. He mentioned wanting a contract around 9 months and roughly around 875 dollars per appearance.” “Make it happen. He’s going to be in charge of everything backstage with the wrestlers. If someone is late it’s his fault. If they blow a spot, or complain about doing the job it’s his fault. He will also be part of my booking team and will be challenged to come up with new ideas on a constant basis. Make sure he’s aware of all these stipulations then give him the contract he wants.” “You don’t want to negotiate the contract at all?” “I’ve got money to burn Terry. Now let’s find a referee and announcer.” “Do you have someone in mind for color?” “You’re looking at him.”

This looks interesting so far. I like your characterisations, and the promotion style is pretty interesting as well. My only advice would be this: from a business standpoint, I think it would be interesting to up the lucha libre levels a bit (think about it this way: very few other promotions do that in the US, and if you're the only ones presenting a product, then it's fans can only come to you for it).

1 JAN 07 Cincinnati Bingo Hall, Cincinnati OH The renovation was complete. What was once a rundown shack with hobos living in it was now the finest looking bingo hall Ohio had ever seen. The land value had gone up 10% in the last month and the addition of a second floor for office space really made the place look elegant. With one person now on the pay roll it was time to get a roster together and start putting on shows. “Sir I have the announcer and referee ready to sign a contract with your blessing.” Terry handed me the files and like before I thumbed through them while he briefed me of what was on the pages. “The first one is an announcer. Another former wrestler this guy was a very promising cruiserweight until he was involved in a motorcycle accident and trashed his knee.” “Remus… The name sounds familiar he was part of some young tag team a year or so ago wasn’t he?” “That’s the one. Remmington Remus was one half of The Remus Twins. He’s been looking for work as an announcer after his accident and this could just be the spot for him.” “He’s green…I like that. And he has some name value I like that too. Let’s do it, how much does he want?” “Well he only want 425 per appearance for 9 months, but there’s a catch.” “What kind of catch?” “Well since the accident his brother has also been out of work. And Remmington wants us to give him a spot on our roster.” “Is he any good?” “He’s no American Elemental, but he could be decent for a startup fed like this one.” “OK, call him up make it happen. In fact, start calling other workers while you’re at it. I want fliers. We should be able to put on some of the most memorable matches people have ever seen. Don’t get me wrong I still want technicians and brawlers, but my mine focus is flyers.” “How many people should we look to sign?” “12-15 should be good for now.” “I’ll get right on that, is there anything else I should know?” “Actually there is. I would like to have our first show by the end of the month if possible so you need to work fast. Also I don’t want more than 25% of our roster working for another company. We are going to be original and use our own talent. If at any time we go about 25% we need to immediately make cuts.” “But sir that’s…” “That will be all for now Terry thank you.” *OOC note* The referee we signed was Jez McArthuer, but there isn’t anything interesting to say about him. He signed for 9 months 925 per appearance. I'm not sure how to handle the initial contract signings. I'm thinking about just posting the roster because each individual person would take way to long. But some insight of what you guys would rather see would be great.

15 Jan 08 Cincinnati Bingo Hall, Cincinnati OH I sat in our new conference room for the first time and was amazed by how roomy it really was. I was at the end of a long oak conference table. Today was the day we signed our first five superstars to a contract. Terry had given me the run down on them and the prescreening of everyone was already complete. Terry brought the first person in and the negotiations were soon underway. “Sir the first person for the day is Roderick Remus, if you remember we hired his brother a couple weeks ago.” “Of course, Roderick please sit down.” “Thank you sir for this tremendous opportunity, I promise you won’t be disappointed.” “It says here you’ve been in the business for about 2 years mainly as a tag team specialist.” “Yes sir, my brother Remmington and I started out at 16 and were said to be rising fast. After the accident I’ve been bouncing around in the independent circuit waiting for another opportunity.” “There may be times when you’re asked to fight 2 or 3 times a night.” “I’m willing to fight 100 times a night for an opportunity sir.” “Alright we are looking for an old school heel figure. Someone who is c0cky and always right. Do you think you can pull that off alright?” “You’re damn right I can. I’m the best wrestling on God’s Green Earth in fact I’m better than God himself. From this moment on all you peons are to bow to me.” This took me back for a second until I realized he had gone into character, then I was slightly impressed by the improvising. “Alright I’m willing to offer you a PPA contract worth 575 dollars for 9 months. In this contract you are going to be used as one of our main heels and will be renamed to “The Amazing” Roderick Remus. Work on that c0cky personality and be ready for our first show in about 2 weeks. Terry will be in touch with you with the details about the card.” Roderick leaped from the table and took my hand in a firm handshake then practically hugged me. He was glad to finally be back in the ring, and I was glad to have our first star. “The next interview is with Remmy Skye. Skye is currently employed with CZCW and is known for his incredible Ladder Matches.” Remmy heard his introduction and took this as his signal to come in the office. One look at his hair and I nearly jumped up on the table. “SECURITY, there’s another one of those beggars in here.” “Um sir…that’s Mr. Skye.” Oh…oh…sorry um…nice hair.” “It’s cool man, I get that a lot.” “So the king of the ladder match huh, I hear you love to put your body on the line out there.” “Yeah it’s a life style you know. It’s like don’t be afraid to go that extra mile. Sometimes you just have to take that leap and not really worry about the consequences.” “Uh-huh, you don’t plan on making any school appearances do you?” “What?” “Good…So we are willing to give you 625 dollars per appearance for 9 months.” “Cool. Oh I promised my mom I would ask if you guys could pay the medical expenses if I’m injured.” “Something tells me that’s a smart request Mr. Skye. Yes we will pay your medical expenses, thanks for your time.” As soon as Skye was out of ear shot I looked at Terry. “What the hell was that?” “That was perhaps one of the biggest faces in NGW.” “He didn’t seem…off to you?” “The rumor is he’s straight edge. He doesn’t allow any drugs of any kind to enter his body.” “He just asked for medical doesn’t that count as drugs?” “I said rumored. I’ll keep an eye on him.” “You do that. Who’s next?” Terry thumbed through the list of remaining interviews for the day. “The next worker is Rudy Velasquez. Rudy is currently employed by DAVE where he works as a tag team wrestler with his best friend Hector Galindo.” Rudy then walked in wearing a shirt with cut off sleeves, a bandana and 2 different ear rings above his right brow. I was beginning to think the wrestling business was very casual. “Mr. Velasquez thanks for taking the time to meet with me today.” “It’s my pleasure. I’m actually a fan of yours.” “Really?” “Yes sir. I’ve been studying the real estate business for a few years now, and your techniques are very interesting.” “Well thank you very much. It’s nice to see such a bright young man joining my company.” “Do you think it would be possible for us to get together sometime and discuss some of your views on the business?” “That would be great! Oh and before I forget we have this contract here for you worth 800 per appearance for 9 months.” “Wasn’t it you that once said never to accept the first offer Mr. Avatar? I’m afraid I’m going to have to decline unless you can give me at least 975.” I grinned and quickly signed the contract. I’d never had a fan before, and I was willing to fork out an extra 175 dollars to keep one around. After Rudy left Terry slammed the door shut and said he thought it was time for us to take a lunch break. As confused as I was I agreed with him. While we were eating our take out he then went on to inform me that Rudy Velasquez had never even heard of the real estate business until a week ago when Terry made contact with him and I had just been played by a 21 year punk. Well it felt good while it lasted. (Next up… Still 2 more “unique” Main Event stars to interview. Then the roster comes out. Then hopefully a real show some time in the near future. Feedback anyone?

15 Jan 08 Cincinnati Bingo Hall, Cincinnati OH (After Lunch) After lunch Terry and I decided to sit back down with our last two interviewees and bring this day to a close. I was growing restless of these long interviews and just wanted to get my new million dollar company on its feet. “Sir the next person is a very gifted athlete and would be a real…” “Just send him in Terry, stop trying to butter me up.” Mainstream Hernandez is a cult favorite among avid wrestling fans and was last year’s winner in MAW’s Rip Chord Invitational. He walked into the interview room looking cool and collected wearing a pair of brand new Ray Bands and strangely enough a necklace made of shark’s tooth. He took the seat directly across from me and slipped me a small sheet of notebook paper. “What’s this?” “It’s what Rip is paying me. I expect at least 10 percent more if you plan on signing me, plus my own dressing room.” “Why should I give you these?” “Because I’m easily the most recognizable person on your roster, and I’m willing to bet the most talented to.” “I’ll give you a 15 percent increase, but I can’t do the dressing room, there isn’t enough space.” Mainstream pondered over this a few minutes before finally nodding his head in approval and clearing the way for our last applicant of the day. “The last one of the night is a unique individual. His name is Black Eagle, but he works for CZCW as Plague. He’s a little on the experienced side at 32, but still has incredible abilities.” “Send him in.” As Black Eagle made his way into the office I thought I had somehow teleported to an old ninja B movie. Did none of these people believe in wearing suits and ties to an interview? “Good evening Mr… actually what is your real name?” Black Eagle just sat there motionless the only thing visible were his eyes which were cutting through me like a katana through its foe. “Right…ok, it says here you’re quite the risk taker, how would you feel about a match where you battle on top of a 100 story building and the only way you win is by tossing your opponent to his death?” Still he sat there emotionless I was beginning to think this guy was a vegetable. “Um sir… I forgot to mention, rumor is he hasn’t sad a word in 3 years. But still people love to work with him, and he puts on incredible shows.” “Doesn’t talk huh…well I guess I shouldn’t put a mic in his hand then. Alright then just sit there and listen. You are going to complete my main event scene as a major heel. You’re name is going to change to The Silent Assassin and you’re going to be playing more of a ninja for hire type gimmick. I’m going to pay you 1,000 dollars per appearance. Now if any of this sounds bad to you go ahead and leave now.” I sat there waiting for him to make his decision, to see if perhaps he would let some glimpse of emotion slip so I could catch him breaking his character. He didn’t and the hairs on the back of my neck began to tingle, could this be the man that took this company to the top? O.O.C. Alright that concludes the interview segment. I’m going to post my roster in a minute. Remember I’m only allowed to have ¼ of my roster under contract so next to their name in parenthesis I’m going to put who they work for. This roster will update after each show with new push’s new hire’s and if someone signs with someone else it will be on there. Let me know if there is anyone you want to hear about. I’ll post a kind of what’s going on around the world at the end of each month. Be patient hopefully some of these characters are already coming to life for you, and please leave feedback. Let me know what you love/hate so I can adjust or at least explain things….enjoy!
