You should always keep a copy of it somewhere safe in the event of anything unfortunate happening, like your laptop dying. The code is what is used to unlock the game and make it playable, you can keep the actual game on any number of computers you want but without the license code you won't be able to play it. If you want to move the license to a different computer or you are going to restore your computer to a previous point or reformat your computer or anything like that... make sure you unlicense the game by going into Control Panel -> eLicense and unlicensing from there.
