[ ALPHA-1 ] ALPHA-1 was considered the top promotion in the world. However over the past year the rise of GAMMA and the view of MMA as human ****fights along with a controversial death of a child supposedly caused by a NARUTO (owners of ALPHA-1) gaming console has put ALPHA-1 as a negative light in the MMA World. NARUTO executives met with Ietsuna Hisamatsu to discuss the downfall of ALPHA-1 and how to fix it. While Hisamatsu believed ALPHA-1 would come back from the downfall, NARUTO of America's James Sherman suggested hiring a former Boxing promoter, Ted Brisco, who had helped NARUTO of America create one of the most popular boxing video games in the States. Brisco also had helped GAMMA start up in Nevada and has connections like no one else. So began the Brisco era of ALPHA-1. Brisco was actually born as a Japanese citizen. A World War 2 baby, son of an American soldier who shares his name, Brisco would migrate to the States with his mother in 1956 at the age of 14 in search of his father. Brisco became an amateur boxer in Seattle and at the age of 18 was a member of the 1960 San Jose State NCAA Boxing Championship team and went on to compete professionally. However, involvements with the mob turned him from a boxer into a promoter and for 30 years, Brisco became one of the most successful boxing promoters promoting in Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Seattle and even Tokyo. However, Brisco would stop promoting Boxing in 1993 to help GAMMA start up as he saw MMA as the next American bloodsport. His relationship with GAMMA wouldn't last long. In 1994, an argument with GAMMA President/Owner Matt Tripp would send his bags packing. It seemed like an unethical way to end the relationship with the man who brought MMA to Vegas, but that's what makes Tripp so controversial. His next project wouldn't be until 1995 when NARUTO of America's James Sherman would contact Ted Brisco about the opportunity to design a boxing game. Appropriately named "Ted Brisco Boxing" it became a huge success first in the Arcades due to the gloves and interaction with the screen and on home consoles due to a who's who of boxing to choose from. Brisco didn't realize this would be his foot back into MMA and for the opportunity to take out Matt Tripp and GAMMA... ALPHA-1's Roster - July '96 1. ALPHA-1 Heavyweight Champion Hassan "The Big Bad" Fezzik (25-0) Say Fezzik and about everyone knows who you're talking about. Considered the greatest fighter of all time, Fezzik at 32 years of age could be the first to go down in the history of MMA as an undefeated retiree. 2. "Unstoppable K" Kunimichi Kukichi (20-2) 3. Jeff "The Rock" Carlton (16-3) 4. Grzegorz "Polish Power" Boniek (13-4) 5. Hiro Arai (17-3) 6. Robun Yamazaki (17-6) 7. Ari Peltonen (14-5) 8. Carter "The Kiwi" Potter (10-2) 9. Jean-Pierre Richelleau (8-2) 10. Eien Kawano (8-4) Stan "The Man" Blackheath (19-11) Denbe "Power Attack" Ekiguchi (7-12-1) 1. ALPHA-1 Light Heavyweight Champion Tadamasu "The Dragon" Yamada (13-1) A jiu-jitsu fighter, The Dragon is one of the top youngsters from Japan to enter the MMA world. His only lost came in his first fight in ALPHA-1 but since then, The Dragon hasn't looked back including a win for the ALPHA-1 championship over Inejiro Chiba, handing the former champion his first lost in two years. 2. Roberto "The Sniper" Aldez (19-3) 3. Inejiro Chiba (20-4) 4. Leon "The Street Fighter" Banks (11-3) 5. Bambang Sriyanto (10-5-2) 6. Souleymane "The African Dream" Ya Konan (10-1) 7. Zaco (9-2) 8. Atshushi "Iron Man" Nakajima (15-12) 9. Gempachi "The General" Higa (9-5) 10. Naoki Itoh (10-7) Heiji Endo (8-1) Jin Katou (5-2) Washichi "The Flying Fury" Kobayashi (6-6) Ebizo "The Proud" Fujishima (7-10-2) 1. ALPHA-1 Middleweight Champion Juro "Iron Man" Fukazawa (7-0) Undefeated and lucky describes Fukazawa. Shocking the critcs at ALPHA-1 34: The Quest with a first round knock-out over former champion Jerezo has given Fukazawa the biggest target on his back. Despite this, Fukazawa is a good stand-up fighter and the knock out victory shows Fukazawa's kickboxing background. 2. Jerezo (21-8) 3. Dokuohtei "The Warrior" Kuroki (13-8) 4. Mal Phe Roby (9-2) 5. Haranobu Oshiro (9-2-1) 6. Jorge Hormazabal (12-5) 7. Ieyoshi Yama****a (10-4) 8. Leonardo da Costa (8-0) 9. Kyuwa Itou (10-9) 10. ALPHA-1 Welterweight Champion Gabriel "Mad Dog" Gallego (12-0) Much like Fukazawa, Gallego is an undefeated champion who won the belt in the first round by knock-out in an upset fashion. Unlike Fukazawa, Gallego has proven he deserves the belt with three defenses under his belt already but he will have to prove himself once more in August's ALPHA-1 37: Hayashi v. Gallego II. 2. Fumiaki "The Lightning Kid" Hayashi (13-4) 3. Bakin Sakamoto (12-5) 4. Kafu "White Hope" Bunya (10-3) 5. Alberto Basora (8-2) 6. Claudio Palacios (10-2-1) 7. Ikku "The Fist of Justice" Funaki (5-3) 8. Matsudaira Satoh (7-5) 9. Sadakuno "The Assassin" Katoh (6-2) 10. Yeijiro Yamamoto (4-6) Heikichi Shimizu (3-0) Tessai "The Punk" Satou (1-2) Piotr Dabrowski (9-11-1) Toson Ono (5-11) 1. ALPHA-1 Lightweight Champion Go Yamamoto (13-1) Considered overrated, Yamamoto has still yet to see World Class action in his career. The Japanese Sensation got his start in Brazilian Muay Thai but has stayed away from International attention other than that and because of this, many question Yamamoto's legitimacy as a real champion and consider him more of a paper champion. 2. Carlos da Guia (5-0) 3. Edson Edmilson (14-6) 4. Ricardo Fernandes (15-7) 5. Paulo Roberto "The Serpent" Bezerra (9-1) 6. Jonathan Huang (9-3) 7. Chojiro Goto (8-1) 8. Muhammad Hamzah (12-10) 9. Teeratep "Crazy Monkey" Nutnum (5-0) 10. Ukyo "Japanese Cowboy" Narita (3-4) Atep of Indonesia (2-0) Sadahige Yoshida (1-0) Fujimaro Hidaka (1-1) Ashihei Bando (0-1) 1. ALPHA-1 Women's Champion Sayoko "The Phenom" Ebisawa (16-1) Despite the one blemish on her record (which many have labeled as a fluke) Ebisawa is a flawless fighter. Considered the greatest female MMA fighter ever, Ebisawa is the female version of Fezzik is considered likely to retire as the Women's Champion. 2. Naora "The Japanese Buzzsaw" Kikuchi (9-1) 3. Seka "IRON" Mutsu (12-4-1) 4. Kaoru "The Barbarian" Nanami (12-2) 5. Chiyo "The Scorpion" Yanagimoto (9-1) 6. Yutsuko "The Black Death" Sasaki (7-4-1) 7. "The Sao Paulo Express" Janinha (11-1) 8. [ ALPHA-1 ] and Bentons East Presents ALPHA-1 36: Under Fire Saturday, Week 3 of July MAIN CARD Main Event - ALPHA-1 Light Heavyweight Championship Tadamasu "The Dragon" Yamada (13-1) vs. Roberto "The Sniper" Aldez (19-3) Considered the Number one and two Light Heavyweights on the ALPHA-1 Roster and the World, Aldez looks to come in swinging and earn a knock out much like he did in GAMMA to win the Light Heavyweight belt there. If Aldez were to win, he'd be the first man to ever hold the Light Heavyweight belt in both GAMMA and ALPHA-1. The Dragon, of course, will not be as easy as Zaco was to knock out and will look to retain both his title and winning streak after the night is over. Co-Main Event - Heavyweight Contest Hiro Arai (17-3) vs. Jeff "The Rock" Carlton (16-3) Although not officially labeled, one can expect this to be a sort of a "Winner meets Fezzik" contest. Both men are coming in on hot streaks and neither have yet faced Fezzik. The War to Settle the Score: "Killer K" Kunimichi Kikuchi (20-2) vs. Robun Yamazaki (17-6) It's been three years since the two of these have met but there's still no love lost. Yamazaki originally knocked Kikuchi out in 1992 to become the first ALPHA-1 Heavyweight Champion. The next time these two met in April of 1993, Kikuchi would get revenge with his own knock out for the Championship. However, due to injuries and other commitments the two haven't met until now and both men look to finally settle the score with this rubber match. Light Heavyweight Contest Heiji Endo (8-1) vs. Jin Katou (5-2) Light Heavyweight Contest Gempachi "The General" Higa (9-5) vs. Washichi "The Flying Fury" Kobayashi (6-6) Light Heavyweight Contest Leon "The Street Fighter" Banks (11-3) vs. Bambang Sriyanto (10-5-2) PRELIMINARIES LH Bout Inejiro Chiba (20-4) v. Zaco (9-2) LH Bout Atsushi "Iron Man" Nakajima (15-12) vs. Souleymane "The African Dream" Ya Konan (10-1) HW Bout Stan "The Man" Blackheath (19-11) Jean-Pierre Richelleau (8-2) Womens Bout Yoko Kobayashi (8-11) vs. Kit "Snake Strike" Sakamoto (1-1) WW Bout Yeijiro Yamamoto (4-6) vs. Tessai "The Punk" Satou (1-2) MW Bout Chikafusa Abukara (5-9) vs. Bokkai "Thunder" Iida (10-8)

News Leading Up To ALPHA-1 36: Under Fire Signings ALPHA-1 went on a mini signing spree picking up "The Shotgun" Jim Carpenter, Shane Gilchrist, Harry "The Bulldog" Milne, Katherine Williams, Gunnar Nilsson and Theo Powers. Nilsson was the biggest surprise as the former GAMMA Heavyweight Champion was taught to have returned to Sweden into retirement. More is expected out of this announcement at ALPHA-1 36. New TV Show? Japanese Sports Vision 2 will be airing ALPHA-1's "Tap Out TV". The first episode of Tap Out TV hasn't been announced yet however but is expected to be announced at ALPHA-1 36. Retirements and Entrances in MMA Some non-ALPHA-1 news now as Monty Oliver, the French native who had a 6-13 pro record called it quits at 35. Hazel McClay soon followed suit and with a 10-15 pro record left the spot. Viv Yoman, 32 and 7-13-2, also left, citing key losses. A few people have done the opposite of the above mentioned and announced that they will soon debut in the world of MMA. Former French Wrestling Team Member Paul Leroy announced his entrance into MMA as did former 123 pound National American Amateur Wrestling Champion Pearl Crockett, the latter who was immediately signed by ALPHA-1. Vicki Kingman, a former Judo teacher in Las Vegas, but more famous as the "Nudo Judo Queen" in which she did Nude Judo is also rumored to be entering MMA soon. Individual Fighting News Haranobu Oshiro also has decided to increase his weight up to 186. Oshiro noted this is closer to his natural weight and will let him focus more on training as opposed to weight loss. More individual fighter news comes from the Brazilian Estrela Academy. ALPHA-1 Welterweight Champion Gabriel Gallego has joined the camp. Fellow ALPHA-1 members include Roberto Aldez, Paulo Roberto Bezerra and Carlos da Guia. MMA in the States GAMMA: Foster vs. Otkay will be held in California during the 2nd week of August on a Saturday. GAMMA will also be announcing it's new television show, which is to be held on National Pride TV, at the same event.
