It always sucks to lose your champion, but at least Jean was around to take over. As soon as he accepted Jameson's challenge I (and I'm sure everyone else) knew Kirk was gone. And I wanted to say I'm real excited to see what you do with Swoop. He's always intrigued me, but I've never had the chance to use him as I haven't played as APW and never got around to bringing him to America. Hopefully he does good for you.

So, the secret’s out. It wasn’t that much of a secret. TEW.com had covered the story at length – Harry Allen and Kirk Jameson had signed their new contracts (CGC and SWF respectively) on the same day, and they had followed Donnie J and Providence out the door. Our three top babyfaces gone in just over a week. We’re too good at developing talent. Even with the return of Jean, it’s a significant net loss. Not that I suppose we can take much credit for Harry Allen – but Donnie J wouldn’t have been looked at twice before he came to us and worked on his mic skills, and Kirk... Well, I’ve gone in depth about Kirk before – he’s my great success story. Suzanne Brazzle is now our top face. I mean, she’s good – great, even. Seriously, though: Suzanne Brazzle. Aaron has just over a month left on his contract, at which point we’ll also lose our number one heel. And because of how things have been going, the #3 to #5 slots are Firebird, Lord Geoffrey Windameer and The Great Ota. Tim Westybrook stands alone – but I have to wonder how long until he gets snapped up as well. He’s too good to be with us much longer. The plan has always been for 2013 to be the year when we elevated new talent. Brandon Smith was going to get his shot, Rudy Velasquez, Swoop McCarthy and Eddie Powell were all going to get pushed... These things will still happen (unless the big feds continue getting grabby), but it would obviously have been a lot handier to try and do things with a larger number of established main eventers around. Still, I like a challenge – and as the saying goes, if you can’t take a joke, then you shouldn’t have joined. Or, as Rip had put it when the news of the departures came in: If you can’t take a joke, then get out of the kitchen. If Rip didn’t have a deep loathing of hospitals – understandable, I guess – then I’d suggest that he get his brain scanned. I can’t help but feel that he’s taken one too many chairshots. I’m not impressed by the timing, though – the approach was made at the start of the week, and the contract was only signed after Kirk’s appearance on Friday’s TV show. As he’s not available for next Fridays show, that mean’s that Kirk’s last appearance for us was On Tour, instead of in front of the national TV cameras. Anyway, it’s star-making time. We may not quite have the same resources that we once did – but the roster was getting too big anyway. We’ll manage – we’ll thrive. And there’s one new name I want to bring in as our new franchise... and because he’s Mexican, I’m hoping that he won’t get stolen by the bigger American feds... As for Kirk... He's had 103 matches with MAW since joining in January 2008. Of those, he won 52, drew 5 and lost 46 – basically he spent the first three years here being beaten and improving, and the next three years getting a push. Elsewhere, he had 178 other matches with FCW and NOTBPW, the latter of whom were running multiple shows every month when we were still giving serious thought to skipping odd months to save on the wage bill. Still, I like to think that we can lay claim to the bulk of his improvement – certainly in terms of his entertainment skills. After all, he went from this in 2008... ...to this in 2013. Or, if you prefer, from this in 2008... I don't often check those, so when I did I was half-worried I'd made myself an uber-character - but then I checked the original stats and I'm fine. Mid Atlantic Wrestling presents: Nationwide Friday, 19th June 2013 Kristabel Plum vs. Nadia Snow (c) for the MAW Women's title Give them time, I guess – Kristabel and Nadia have talent, but no-one in the Mid Atlantic cares about them just yet, I guess. It didn't give the best impression of the company to those watching, but I suppose we'll have to start hosting shows in AAA or BSC territory to manage that. It was a closely contested match, but with the fans so down on it, it was lacking in drama, and even when Snow busted out a Strong Arm Tactic to take the win, the fans just weren't that impressed. Winner: Nadia Snow (E) * Suzanne Brazzle was shown backstage, looking serious: “Nadia, congratulations. Your victory was more impressive this time – even if you are still resorting to stealing other peoples’ moves for your own ends. “I want a match with you at Summer Showdown, with the title on the line. I want to show that I can defend that title with honour, the correct way of doing things. I don’t think that you make a very good champion, Nadia. You’re far too obsessed with looking good, and not at all with actually being good.” * "Bulldozer" Brandon Smith vs. Swoop McCarthy A short, high powered match basically consisting of a series of shows of power as the two men sought to outdo each other. Ultimately, Swoop bit off more than he could chew as he tried to score with a Running Powerslam, only for Smith to break out and score with a Backdrop Driver for the win. Winner: Brandon Smith (D+) * After the match, Swoop gained a measure of revenge by jumping Smith from behind. The Australian unveiled a previously unseen side of his personality by battering Smith into the mat, finishing off with an almighty Running Powerslam that made the announcers’ table shake. * Suzanne Brazzle and Thea Davis vs. Joanne Rodriguez and Deborah Young A decent tag team match, with J-Ro looking especially good as she provided a lot of her team's threat. Young looked menacing, but was thrown by the speed at which the babyfaces moved around the ring, and the fluidity with which they trapped her in wear down holds that quickly sapped the larger woman's strength. J-Ro did her best when tagged in, but for once it was a case of heel in peril as Brazzle and Davis kept Young on the back foot, before Brazzle ultimately took the win with a Brazzle Dazzle. Winners: Brazzle and Davis (D+) * As Brazzle and Davis celebrated their win, Nadia Snow emerged from backstage. “Suzanne, darling, you say that I worry about looking good... but you say it like it’s a bad thing. I can assure you, it isn’t. You’re right, I do worry about looking good. In this business, looking good is much more important than being good. And I steal moves? Well, no-one’s name is on them – so if they look good, then I use them. Anything for the greater good, my dear – and the greater good in this case is making me more popular, and earning me a bigger paycheck. “And speaking of a bigger paycheck... I can hardly turn down the chance to earn a bonus by competing at Sumnmer Showdown. So yes, dear Suzanne. I will fight you there... And I shall win.” * Before the main event, the cameras caught up with Aaron Andrews. “Well, well, well... The golden boy of MAW returns, gets a title shot, and somehow wins. How... unfortunate. “For him. “You see, Jean, you’ve just lifted a terrible weight from my shoulders. The knowledge that I’d never again receive a title shot so long as Kirk Jameson was the champion was hard to bear. But three weeks later it’s no longer a problem – because of you. You came ‘home’, and like the returning hero you conquered all before you.” He smiled brilliantly for a second, and then his expression immediately became one of deadly earnest. “Jean, I’ll invite you to review my accomplishments. I am the longest reigning singles champion in any company this century. I am a former Traditional champion. A former All Action champion. I am employed by a company with a truly global presence, and I am the biggest name that this company has on its books. “Let’s not mess around, Jean. I am the number one contender. Kirk has gone. There will be no rematch. There’s just you... and me. “Next week. Let’s make it happen.” * Eddie Powell and "Machine" Jean Cattley vs. Aaron Andrews and Rudy Velasquez And we close the show with another example of why Aaron Andrews was never intended to be a tag wrestler – as Rudy Velasquez is yet another partner with whom he has no chemistry. Their timing was so far off the pace that it spoilt the match, topping off our worst show yet. It seemed to throw Velasquez, as he had the worst of the exchanges – both kayfabe, and in terms of how impressive he looked. Up against the new World champion and Eddie Powell, who's been a thorn in his side for weeks, he looked off kilter and fell victim to his opponents' experience time and again, driving Andrews wild. However, this seemed to lull the faces into a false sense of security, and Cattley allowed himself to become distracted by Andrews, with the two brawling outside the ring. Powell tried to help his partner, but Velasquez struck from behind, drilling his foe with a Street Cutter to score the win. Winners: Andrews and Velasquez (D+) Overall: D+ Next: Jean's first defence...

Another 0.01 rating. I hope that the people who have been watching weren't too disappointed by the show – we want them tuning in next week. * It’s interesting – to me, but I can be a geek sometimes – that while Aaron Andrews and The Great/Fumihiro Ota have great chemistry working together as a team, they’ve each had three partners they have no chemistry with. *
MAW.com show report: On Tour in South East Monday, 22nd June 2013 It's always great to hit the South East, especially with my boys in tow. Hello grapple fans everywhere, this is Rip Chord calling from the sun, sea, sand and sweat – you know where we are, right? We may not have air-conditioning, but the action tonight was so hot that it would have given out anyway as the Sweat Box hosted not one, but two title matches – including the first ever World title defence for new champion Jean Cattley. The show started off, though, with Brandon Smith and Greg Ford exchanging heavy blows in the centre of the ring, the two hard brawlers unwilling to give any quarter. The two have clashed many times in tag matches, but this singles encounter gave the edge to Smith, who took the win with a Backdrop Driver that shook the ring. After his win, Smith challenged Tim Westybrook to a match on Saturday night. Next it was the ladies chance to show what they were capable of, as Debbie Rose and Brooke Tyler took it to Jaime Quine and Deborah Young. Young was out to show that she could compete in MAW after being outfought last Friday, and she was able to toss Tyler and Rose around with comparative ease. But she couldn’t get the decisive win over her opponents, and when Quine entered the fray, the duo were able to wear her down and put her away with a Thorn Cutter. Casey Valentine and Kashmir Singh went at it next. Another duo who know their way around each other from the tag ranks, this was an evenly contested match. Singh tried to keep the match on the mat, but Valentine wanted to brawl it out. In the end, he broke free from Singh's attention to score with a Sweet Sweet Heartbreak and snatch the win. Backstage, Lenny Brown continued his mission to earn respect by going after Traditional champion Bradford Peverell. It didn't work out for him, though, as Peverell turned the tables on his attacker – before dragging out to the ring and taking the win in an impromptu match that shows that Peverell is prepared to put his money where his mouth is. He'll need to bring plenty of change as he goes up against the impressive Australian Swoop McCarthy on Saturday night. Also backstage, Marc Speed mocked Jean Cattley for the manner of his win last week, saying that he tricked Kirk Jameson into putting his title on the line. Jean said that he was prepared to show he deserved the title – and if Speed wanted to try and prove otherwise, that he was ready to fight there and then. Speed seemed delighted by the unexpected chance to claim the gold, and for a time it seemed he might even capitalise on the chance. But Cattley came back strongly, showing that the weight of being the company figurehead rests easily on his shoulders as he eventually scored with a Mood Swing to take the win. Overview: "Bulldozer" Brandon Smith def. Greg Ford – D Deborah Rose and Brooke Tyler def. Jaime Quine and Deborah Young – D- Casey Valentine def. Kashmir Singh – D- Bradford Peverell def. Lenny Brown – D- Jean Cattley def. Marc Speed – D+ Overall: D+
* Only 412 fans in attendance at the Sweat Box – I don't know what it is about the South East, as that's a third of the projected attendance. And just to show that it's not the economy or industry, we've sold out twice in the Mid Atlantic and in the previous On Tour show in the Great Lakes as well. Peverell and Brown lacked chemistry in their match. We have more faces than heels available on the tour roster, so it's annoying to have that crop up. Nothing we can't work around, though. * Casey Valentine has knocked back CZCW. Again. SWF look set to re-sign Hugh de Aske, but Citizen X will probably be let go. Hugh would be someone we'd love to re-sign, but his contract has come up a few weeks too late. Chance Fortune looks set to renew as well. * MAW Nationwide Suzanne Brazzle and Thea Davis vs. Nadia Snow and Joanne Rodriguez "Bulldozer" Brandon Smith vs. Rudy Velasquez (c) – MAW All Action title Eddie Powell and Amazing Fire Fly vs. Lord Geoffrey Windameer and Tim Westybrook "Machine" Jean Cattley (c) vs. Aaron Andrews – MAW World title

OOC: Welcome to the new readers if I hadven't already done so - between work, running mafia and so on, I've been a bit lackadaisical about the diary. Still, we're nearly up to speed, so welcome! And because there's only a day between this show and the next one, have two posts for the price of one :D Mid Atlantic Wrestling presents: Nationwide Friday, 26th June 2013 Suzanne Brazzle and Thea Davis vs. Nadia Snow and Joanne Rodriguez Ahead of their Women's title match tomorrow, the duo Suzanne Brazzle and Nadia Snow found partners to give fans a preview of what they could expect. Nadia and J-Ro had a high old time in this match, cheating liberally as the over-excitable Brazzle got caught time and again entering the ring when she shouldn't have, trying to protect her partner. In the end, it proved their undoing as the match degenerated into a pier six brawl and, in the confusion, Snow drilled Thea Davis with a Plum Tucker to pick up the win. Winners: Snow and J-Ro (D) * After the bell, Nadia got in Suzanne’s face, waving the Women’s title belt around. Suzanne was clearly fuming, her face growing redder and redder until eventually she snapped and took Nadia down. The two had a good old-fashioned catfight until J-Ro got involved, dragging Nadia away – but not before she’d grabbed the title belt as well. * "Bulldozer" Brandon Smith vs. Rudy Velasquez (c) for the MAW All Action title I had a good feeling about this match going in. These two smacked the daylights out of each other, unloading with unflinching brutality. The champion had the edge as he was able to go airborne as well, and when Smith came charging into the corner, Velasquez sprang over him, sending Smith crashing into the buckles and allowing the champion to snatch the victory with a Street Cutter. Winner: Rudy Velasquez (C-) * Velasquez left with his title as Smith hauled himself upright. However, before he could get any further, he was mown back down again by Tim Westybrook, who pummelled the former Masked Patriot before planting him with a Double Powerbomb. * Eddie Powell and Amazing Fire Fly vs. Lord Geoffrey Windameer and Tim Westybrook Neither Powell nor Fly seemed overly eager to enter the ring with Westybrook, but eventually Powell started the match off – and for his pains was nearly snapped in half by a big boot from the Iron Man. This was Westybrook's match, Windameer tagging in only to stomp on a downed Fly a few times before scampering back to his corner and tagging in Westybrook when Fly showed signs of life. Westybrook accepted the tag, but shoved Windameer to the mat before picking Fly up and finishing the match with a TNT Whirlwind. Winners: Windameer and Westybrook (D+) * Jean Cattley came to the ring, World title securely around his waist. “So, right now my dance card is unmarked for Saturday’s show. I know that my winning this title came as a shock to everyone – myself included, in a way. These last few years have been tough. I've not been given the chance to show what I can do, to show that I'm one of the best talents in the business. Here in MAW I can do that. I can show that I am among the best. It's not arrogance – I've shown it time and again. But I have a problem: No-one’s stepped up to the plate to challenge me just yet. “Given that I won this title when Kirk Jameson issued an open challenge, I think that it’s only fair that I do the same. Anyone who wants a fight on Saturday can come find me. I’ll be ready.” Aaron Andrews stepped out onto the ramp, looking furious. “I thought you had more class, Cattley. Bad enough that you steal that belt from under Kirk’s nose – funny, but cheap – but for you to disregard the challenge I issued last week is particularly crass.” “I didn’t disregard it, Aaron. I just wanted to get you worked up for the match. You see, I do want to fight you, Aaron. And I’ll fight you tonight... But I don’t want the petulant, whining Aaron we've seen over the last few weeks. I want the fired up champion, the future of this business, the best all-rounder in wrestling today... I want to know that when I hit you with the Mood Swing and pin you, that you were at your best. No excuses, no outs... Your best against mine. I can show what I'm capable of, and so can you – and when you lose, everyone will know that I'm better than you." * "Machine" Jean Cattley (c) vs. Aaron Andrews for the MAW World title This was a strong finish to the show. If Aaron's schedule was different – he works the last Saturday of the month with TCW – this would have been tomorrow's main event instead, but as it is it may be better to put this on now, as no-one believes that Aaron, with six weeks on his contract, was going to beat Jean, ten days into his reign. It was a decent, back and forth title match which Aaron looked good in, coming close to picking up the win on a couple of occasions. Jean kept his nerve, though, and in the end scored with a Mood Swing to take the win. Winner: Jean Cattley (C) Overall: C- * We scored a 0.01 rating again. * Aaron pranked Rock Downpour after the show, and the usually mild-mannered Rock blew up. Rock's a big guy, retired from wrestling after a knee injury but still in great shape. He pinned Aaron against the wall by his throat, Aaron clawing at Rock's hand as he held him a few inches off the floor. I broke it up with some help, before dragging Aaron into my office. He was rubbing at his throat as I fined him. He grunted something and left as I counted the days until he'd be gone. * MAW Summer Showdown "Bulldozer" Brandon Smith vs. Tim Westybrook Natural Storm vs. Always Breakin' Hollywood (c) – MAW Tag Team titles Bradford Peverell (c) vs. Swoop McCarthy – MAW Traditional title Suzanne Brazzle vs. Nadia Snow (c) – MAW Women's title Kristabel Plum vs. Joanne Rodriguez Eddie Powell vs. Rudy Velasquez (c) – MAW All Action title Plus: "Machine" Jean Cattley defends his MAW World title in an open challenge

Good show. Seems Andrews is going to be a punk until he leaves. MAW Summer Showdown "Bulldozer" Brandon Smith vs. Tim Westybrook - I honestly have no idea, I'm going to go with a draw Natural Storm vs. Always Breakin' Hollywood (c) – MAW Tag Team titles - Does anyone care about the tag titles anymore? No offense, it just seems the division is at's it low point Bradford Peverell (c) vs. Swoop McCarthy – MAW Traditional title - But I think by DQ. Swoop is headed for big things Suzanne Brazzle vs. Nadia Snow (c) – MAW Women's title Kristabel Plum vs. Joanne Rodriguez - Sets up Suzanne/J-Ro Eddie Powell vs. Rudy Velasquez (c) – MAW All Action title - Err... Yep. Plus: "Machine" Jean Cattley defends his MAW World title in an open challenge - I'm predicting either an old face or a talent exchange here.

"Bulldozer" Brandon Smith vs. Tim Westybrook Brook is better. Bradford Peverell (c) vs. Swoop McCarthy – MAW Traditional title Not yet but soon Swoop. Suzanne Brazzle vs. Nadia Snow (c) – MAW Women's title Brazlle is better and set's up her vs J-Ro Kristabel Plum vs. Joanne Rodriguez See above Eddie Powell vs. Rudy Velasquez (c) – MAW All Action title Rudy has been performing well so far with the title. Plus: "Machine" Jean Cattley defends his MAW World title in an open challenge Ota or Firebird will become the new main challenger for a while.

OOC: With regard to the tag division, I am looking at ways of freshening it up. Having ABH dominate for the last year or so has lost its appeal. In fact, it may well be time to start thinking about cutting a few of the workers... Mid Atlantic Wrestling presents: Summer Showdown Saturday, 27th June 2013 "Bulldozer" Brandon Smith vs. Tim Westybrook Wow. Just... wow. This was twelve minutes of unbridled brutality. The two men threw caution to the ring as they battered the... well, it has four letters and I'm not allowed to say it in polite company, but that's what they battered out of each other. The 1,200 fans in attendance lapped up the action, cheering themselves hoarse as the two men unleashed thunderous blows that would have caved in the chests of smaller men. It was a breathtaking brawl that was comfortably Brandon’s best ever match, and could easily have gone either way. The Iron Man had the edge in experience, though, and was able to reverse an attempted Backdrop Driver into a devastating TNT Whirlwind for the win. Winner: Tim Westybrook (B-) * It was never going to be easy to follow that, and perhaps if we’d known how good the opener was going to be, we’d have gone with something other than a promo by ABH... but them’s the breaks. They were backstage, Haley Buck still looking put out by Lenny Brown’s attitude at the recent Tour show. “Haley, you’re the one who set out how we work. You do the contracts and handle the money, we beat ---- out of people so that there’s money to handle. We’ve had these belts a long time now, and you’ve had a lot to do with that, but-“ “Don’t think that we need you around,” Primus Allen cut in, growling menacingly. “You take our money, and I’m not sure what you do for us that some hack out of the phonebook couldn’t do. We’re money – ain’t no-one saying no to us.” Buck, who had spent the entire time scowling at her laptop, turned in her seat. “Fine, think like that,” she snapped. “But overconfidence lost more titles than any other factor. Yes, you’re money, and yes, you’re lined up for more movies than that Fury guy, but if I hadn’t picked you up and put you together, you’d just be two promising nobodies. I could do that for anyone. If you want me to prove that, then I will – it’ll just cost you your titles, your win bonuses, and your A-list invites.” The three glared at one another. “Fine,” Allen growled. “But make no mistake, Buck. We keep you around to do what we say – you don’t give the orders around here.” Buck didn’t say anything – but she didn’t need to. As the champions grabbed their belts and left the locker room, her expression spoke volumes. * Natural Storm vs. Always Breakin' Hollywood (c) for the MAW Tag Team titles The hangover from the opening match cleared somewhat with this. It was a standard brawl, not up to the standards of the first contest, but that was okay – it wasn't expected to be. Unexpected star of the match was DC Rayne, who busted out some impressive aerial moves for the big show. However, he crashed and burned on a flying splash, leaving himself open to a Hollywood Boulevard as the champions retained. Winners: Always Breakin' Hollywood (D+) * Bradford Peverell entered his locker room to find Swoop McCarthy in situ, occupying his chair, eating his fruit, and with the Traditional title across his lap. “I think you’re in the wrong room.” “Swoop disagrees. You see, the sign on the door says ‘Traditional champion’. You see, Swoop beat the champion two weeks ago. Tonight, it’s for the belt. After the match, this picture won’t change. Swoop’s room, Swoop’s belt... And Pev on the outside, looking like he swallowed a pint of glue and hasn’t been able to take a ---- for a week.” Peverell shook his head, smiling or, perhaps, just showing his teeth. “You talk big, and that’s good. You see, something you might not know about me as you’re new around here: I’m not an easy man to beat, Swoop. And I never back down from a loudmouth, because a lot of the time they’ve got nothing behind the words. Oh, I’ll admit you beat me, but that was two weeks ago. Here, now, get ready for the old one,” he raised his left fist, “two,” he raised his right. Taking his belt, he stalked out of the room. Swoop stayed in the chair, smiling as he finished a pear, before mimicking Peverell’s one-two motion and laughing to himself. * Bradford Peverell (c) vs. Swoop McCarthy for the MAW Traditional title We stuck with the high-powered brawl for this match, and while I hesitate to say that a star was born in this match, Swoop looked like he could be a star – despite his minimal overness. It was a spirited contest, with Swoop's power and star presence matched well with Peverell's flying fists and athleticism. Peverell fought hard, living up to his promise to be worthy of the title, but Swoop was not to be denied, and a ring-shaking Running Powerslam gave the Australian his first MAW title. Winner: Swoop McCarthy (C) * Backstage, Joanne Rodriguez was checking on Nadia Snow, who was sitting in front of a large mirror that was surrounded by lit bulbs. A makeup lady was touching up her blusher, while a hairdresser was adding the finishing touches to her ‘do. “Is there anything I can get you, Nadia?” J-Ro asked. “You’re such a dear, Joanne,” Snow replied. “I wouldn’t know what to do without you. But I think that I have everything I need. You really should go and prepare for your own match tonight.” “Good idea. I’ll go and... warm up.” J-Ro was followed by the camera as she left the dressing room and made her way around the backstage area. A short way from Snow’s room, she happened upon Suzanne Brazzle and without hesitation attacked the fan favourite from behind, clotheslining her to the ground before stomping on her. As Brazzle struggled to stand upright, Rodriguez grabbed her arm and whipped her into the wall before walking off, leaving her down on the mat, and clearly suffering. * Suzanne Brazzle vs. Nadia Snow (c) for the MAW Women's title Nadia debuted her new ring entrance before the match: Flanked by paparazzi, she made her way to the ring with a be-suited valet in tow, decked out in a glamorous ball gown. At the bottom of the ramp, the valet whisked away the dress portion of the gown, leaving Snow in serviceable – but fabulous – ring gear. With her opponent already suffering the effects of a beating, this seemed like another straightforward match for Snow. Brazzle gave it her all, though, refusing to lay down when a more sensible person would have accepted defeat. She fought hard, taking the lead on a number of occasions and scoring several two counts, but in the end Snow was able to overcome her challenger and score the win to retain the title in what can only be considered a significant upset. Winner: Nadia Snow (C-) * J-Ro dived into the ring with the title belt as soon as the bell rang. Hugging Nadia, she bounced up and down, waving the title belt and holding Nadia’s arm aloft in victory. Nadia looked sllightly bemused and, when she finally got the belt from J-Ro, celebrated in a more restrained manner. * Kristabel Plum vs. Joanne Rodriguez Plum was obviously upset at the way that J-Ro had attacked Brazzle, and acted after the title match was over. She took her aggression out on the Latina star, smacking her around the ring and trying twice to put her down with a Plum Tucker. But J-Ro seemed nicely warmed up from her earlier antics, and was able to avoid both finisher attempts. The match seesawed back and forth, with J-Ro's superior skills tempered by Plum's righteous anger, but in the end Plum's aggression cost her as she went for a stunning Plum Tucker from the top rope – but J-Ro met her with a jumping kick before nailing the J-Rocker for the win. Winner: Joanne Rodriguez (D+) * At the announcers’ table, Rip announced that the All Action title would be contested in a ladder match: “On a show where MAW is seeking to climb to the pinnacle time and again, I think it only fair to have two of our most talented workers giving their all to try and climb an actual ladder as MAW seeks to continue its climb up the metaphorical one...” Rip paused, looking annoyed. “Who the hell writes this ----?” he growled, as Rock and I laughed. “Look, two great wrestlers, the belt’s been hung fifteen feet in the air, and they’ve got to climb a ladder to get there. It’s gonna be great.” He scowled, and muttered “Metaphorical pinnacle...” * Eddie Powell vs. Rudy Velasquez (c) for the MAW All Action title in a ladder match This stipulation played beautifully to the strengths of the two competitors. While Rudy is a rough and tough brawler for the most part, he has some often-forgotten aerial skills that don't really play to his character's strengths. Powell, for his part, is one of the best flyers on the indy circuit. The result was a breathtaking battle of balance and death-defying skill, aided in its execution by the almost tangible chemistry between the two. It was a desperately close contest, with both men touching the gold on a number of occasions before being denied at the death. In the end, Velasquez was able to hit a Street Cutter on Powell from the ladder and slowly, painfully make his way from the mat to the top rung and retrieve the belt as the crowd showed their considerable appreciation for the efforts of both men. Winner: Rudy Velasquez (C+) * Rip and Jean were in the ring. “Jean, I don’t think that I ever congratulated you on your win, so well done – it’s nice to see that someone I signed to this company way back on day one is still capable of matching up against the best that this industry has to offer.” “I’ve only ever wanted to show what I’m capable of,” Jean replied. “And MAW is the one place where I get to do that. I can take on anyone in this business, and I think I stand a chance of coming out on top. And that’s why tonight my challenge is open to anyone – whether they’re male or female, big or small, strong or quick, a Bullldozer or an-“ Familiar music played, and a hulking silhouette stepped out onto the top of the ramp. “-Iron Man.” The spotlights illuminated Tim Westybrook on his way down to the ring. “So, are you ready to face Westybrook?” “I said anyone,” Jean said, looking a little nervous, but also determined. “And hey, I had two matches the night I won this, so why not?” * "Machine" Jean Cattley (c) vs. Tim Westybrook for the MAW World title This was a war, pure and simple. The two men left nothing in their lockers as they tore into one another. Jean seemed to be at a disadvantage from the opening bell, giving up several inches and over fifty pounds to his challenger, but Westybrook was at times totally stymied by Jean's technical skills. The challenger relied on his strength, but Cattley was able to turn it against him in several spots, including using leverage from the ropes to flip Westybrook to the outside, sending him sprawling to the arena floor and nearly flattening the announcers' table as he crashed into it. Back in the ring, the fight resumed with both men trying to weaken their opponent for their respective finishers. Westybrook caught Cattley in a bear hug as he sought to weaken his back, but Cattley returned fire with a series of hard strikes to the head, making Westybrook drop him – but also meaning that Cattley no longer had the easy access to Westybrook's head to set up a Mood Swing. The two men continued to fight, but even Westybrook's legendary stamina began to wane as the clock wound down. As the match neared the thirty-minute mark, Westybrook unleashed one last attack, sandwiching Cattley in the corner with a clothesline and dragging him out and into position for a TNT Whirlwind. But before he could land the move, the bell rang and he scowled, before letting Cattley go. The champion landed on his feet, and turned quickly to face his challenger, his chest heaving. Westybrook looked at Cattley, and the crowd tensed as they awaited further developments, but Westybrook just let out a long breath and turned to leave, without saying a word. Winner: No-one (B-) Overall: B-
