TCW: Homage

Recommended Posts

My name is Jack Avatar, I am 23 years old and I will never wrestle again... - My name is Astil, and this is my first TEW 2008 dynasty. Obviously it will be a TCW dynasty, as I like there initial roster, and the storylines which I have already pushed forward. I chose the name Homage (a: expression of high regard : respect —often used with pay) for many reasons. 1) To pay homage to the characters created by Adam Ryland. 2) To pay homage to some real life wrestlers and gimmicks (who you may recognize later down the line) 3) To pay homage to the great dynasty writers here at GDS. There will be a lot of "similar" gimmicks or styles to some of my favorites here. I hope those who made the gimmick popular take me paying homage the way I mean it: an expression of high regard. Respect. With that I thank any and all who wish to come with me on this ride.

A year ago I didn't even know Tommy Cornell did house shows. Back then, I was just a pup, 22, with more optimism than I knew what do to with. I worked shows with NYCW, DAVE, CZCW, FCW. I was even in the Rip Chord Invitational. The Internet was abuzz with my name, saying I was going to DAVE, to Japan, to become head booker of ROF. Then I got a call. Not from Tommy Cornell. Not even from Joel Bryant. Joel Bryant's secretary, Mila, called me. She had a sweet deceptive voice, you'll know what I mean if you ever see her. Ms. Mila informed me TCW wanted me to work a house show in Puerto Rico to try and improve popularity there. Seeing as my name was so big, they'd put me in the main event, and if I performed to there liking, I'd have a contract for 2008. I showed up and watched some of the matches. Young Guns vs. Chance Fortune and Freddy Huggins was alright. Charlie Thatcher beating Robert Oxford was boring as hell. Sam Keith came out and got squashed by Puerto Rican Power. Oh man, I have never, ever seen a crowd pop like that. PRP is a god in his homeland. Then Jason Ariza announced a surprise second main event. I slowly walked to ring. There was a pop, but the crowd was a bit fizzled out from PRP, and I just wasn't a very big name. Then the music started, and Tommy Cornell made his way to the ring. I couldn't even hear the crowd, because I was in my happy place. That moment, that pre match look of respect from Tommy, that will last with me a lifetime. We went. We went hard for twenty five minutes and the fans ate it up. I almost finished him with a Avatar Rising. He sold it like a champ. I set him up for a second, and he whispered, "Ground counter." I raced in, and he slipped under, got me to the ground and locked in the Rough Justice. I sold him as much as he sold me. Eventually I got to the ropes. Back and forth, back and forth. Until he put me in a chin lock. "Rough ride coming up." He lifted me up, hit me with a series of hooks, then hoisted me. Coming down I remember seeing not a fan in there seat. SNAP. The lights seemed to go dim. and I heard a buzz, like a microphone feedback. I knew instantly, my neck was snapped.

All medical was covered by TCW, and I was actually visited by Tommy Cornell once, even if it was an awkward ten minute "Hey, champ, how you feeling" visit. I feel great, doctors say I'll be able to move soon Tommy. Anyway, there were months of rehab and such to get to walking. Some call it inspirational that I can walk. I call it boring. I knew I'd be walking again. No big deal. Anyway, one day I got home. I was still in a wheelchair mind you, but I could motor for like 5 steps. There was a message on my answering machine. "Jacky, it's Joel from TCW. Call me at ***-****. It's important." There was a big meeting. Tommy, Joel, Sam, me. The three told me that as repayment for TCW ending my wrestling career they would give me a new one. I would be head booker, starting New Year's day 2008. It was a shock, and I wasn't exactly overjoyed, but hey, a job's a job. When i got home, I wheeled to the bed and started planning. Hopefully I'd be able to walk by the first show. Interesting start - the backstories are definitely getting really good for 08! Card looks pretty decent, as well. I haven't looked at TCW too much, so some of these predictions may be way out... Aaron Andrews and Charlie Thatcher vs. Painful Procedure - AA has huge upside, PP are dreadful. Chance Fortune vs. Edd Stone - STONEZ RULE OK!! Freddy Huggins vs. Sammy Bach (c) for the TCW All Action Title - No title change on the first show. Joel Bryant vs. Danny Fonzarelli - The Fonz is nearly as cool as the Stonez. Joey Minnesota vs. Rick Law - Joey's great, but Law is one of the most established babyfaces and shouldn't job here. American Buffalo vs. Guide - Squash here for AB. Genghis Rhan and Rocky Golden vs. The Machines (c) for the TCW Tag Team Title - I love Rocky and Genghis, but still no title change on the first show. Eddie Peak and Tyson Baine vs. Sam Keith and Wolf Hawkins - Syndicate have too much for Peak and Baine, great as they both are. Ricky Dale Johnson vs. Tommy Cornell (c) for the TCW World Heavyweight Title - The money's in the chase here - RDJ gets the shock win, but not the belt, due to DQ when the Syndicate attack.

Both Chance and Edd know how to move. I thought maybe they'd work together well and put on a great match. While they both did well, it wasn't the fantastic open I was hoping for. Edd stone over Chance Fortune [D+] Ricky Dale Johnson comes out at says that he doesn't care what group Cornel's running with, he will beat him. Fonzarelli is a gimmick I wasn't too familiar with, but the crowd seemed to connect with him. I would need to put him in a match with someone good. Danny Fonzarelli over Joel Bryant [D+] Rocky Golden has interview time. He reminds Cornell that the golden child is gunning for him, and he should watch his back. Momentum swung back and forth, until it looked like Minnesota was going to put Law away. Out of no where, Texas Pete runs out and kicks Minnesota in the gut. He hits the ropes and kicks Minnesota in the head. The ref goes to call for the bell, but Texas Pete hits the Texas Punt on the downed Rick Law. Peak mounts a huge comeback, and Tyson takes out Sam on the outside. Eddie takes momentum and eventually the win. I walked backstage to a bit of applause. Not a thunderous one, but a bit. Tommy walked over, slapped my shoulder. "Not horrible kid. It'll get better." Sam Keith had a bit of a smirk on his face as he happened to walk by. Maybe he didn't like doing the job, but hey, my job my way. Joel Bryant came up to me and shook my hand. "Keep up the good work" All this was fine and dandy, but one thing definetly shook me a bit. Eddie Peak and Joey Minnesota said not a word, and would not look at me. They showered, dressed, and got out of dodge. From: TCW.com Charlie Thatcher vs. Ricky Dale Johnson Word on TCW.com is that Ricky Dale Requested this match to blow off stem. Now we know Charlie is a world class athlete, but we feel incredably bad for him. Sammy Bach vs. Steve Gumble for the TCW All Action Title Sammy has been completely dominating the All Action Title. Can Steve Gumble provide a challange, or will the "Hardcore Rocker" remain the All Action king. Painful Procedure vs. The Pacific Connection (Giant Tana and Clark Alexander) After losing last week, Painful Procedure looks to get back on the winning track. Tana and Alexander are reported to started teaming after Tana approched Alexander to team. Apaparantly Tana just realized Samoa and Hawaii are both islands in the Pacific. Joey Minnesota vs. Rick Law vs. Texas Pete Made by the TCW Championship Committee after Pete attacked both Minnesota and Law during there match. Law and Minnesota are said to be "excited" by a chance to get revenge on Pete. Danny Fonzarelli and Genghis Rhan vs. The Machines for the TCW Tag Team Titles Genghis Rhan reportedly demanded a rematch, which Rocky Golden refused to be a part of. The Love Machine took the opportunity to face the Machines for the title. The New Wave vs. Sam Keith and Wolf Hawkins The Syndicate lost a bit of momentum last week when Keith and Wolf lost. Can they retrive that ever important mo against a stong New Wave team? Rocky Golden vs. Tommy Cornell for the TCW World Heavyweight Title Two huge Main Events in two weeks. This time Tommy Cornell will face Rocky Golden for the TCW World Heavyweight Championship. When Cornell was asked he stated that he had "No worries" about Golden. Charlie Thatcher vs. Ricky Dale Johnson - RDJ will 'blow off steam' by murdering him, surely. Sammy Bach vs. Steve Gumble for the TCW All Action Title - Gumble seems poor this year compared to last, although I've only glanced at him once or twice. Painful Procedure vs. The Pacific Connection (Giant Tana and Clark Alexander) - Showcase for Tana to steamroll them. Joey Minnesota vs. Rick Law vs. Texas Pete - Joey's hot, but Rick is too established for me to go against him. Danny Fonzarelli and Genghis Rhan vs. The Machines for the TCW Tag Team Titles - As cool as Fonz is, he ain't no tag champ yet. The New Wave vs. Sam Keith and Wolf Hawkins - Keith and Hawkins are two of my favourites, but the tag experience should take this one for the NW. Rocky Golden vs. Tommy Cornell for the TCW World Heavyweight Title - No way the champ jobs again, surely.

Nobody came to me after. Well, the masked man, sans mask did. He told me he was excited for the storyline and all that. To be honest, I was wishy washy on the storyline, but the end result would make me happy. Hopefully. Anyway, there where no, "Good show, chaps" or anything. There was a note on my desk though. "Let's talk. Joey M." - Genghis Rhan vs. Koshiro Ino Genghis is one hardcore son of a gun. Koshiro is a Japanese legend. Now he is on a mission to prove he deserves the belt, a mission that starts with former champion Freddy Huggins. Ronnie V. Pain vs. Tyson Baine Honestly... TCW officials found it amusing there names rhymed. Edd Stone vs. Giant Tana Edd Stone actually requested this himself to quote "Beat the lard of that man, eh". Ok, we added the "eh" Besides, it'd be "Ehh". Tana accepted the challange, so it'll be "Eh"dd Stone vs. Giant Tana. Danny Fonzarelli vs. Sammy Bach A match requested by Rocky Golden. What signifigance does it hold? Why would Rocky pit two up and coming stars against each other? The Machines (c) vs. The New Wave for the TCW World tag Team Titles The New Wave's victory over Keith and Hawkins last week brought them much praise. This week they get a shot at the tag team title. The Machines have also been on a roll, but not against the quality of team that is the New Wave. Who will prevail in this contest of tag team dominance. American Buffalo vs. Joey Minnesota vs. Rick Law vs. Texas Pete Since the beginning of the month these men can't seem to stay out of each others business. Last week, American Buffalo attacked Law, Minnesota and Pete. Now the triple threat has become a fatal four way. Ricky Dale Johnson, Rocky Golden and Tyson Baine vs. Sam Keith, Tommy Cornell and Wolf Hawkins For months now the Syndicate has been running unchecked throughout TCW, winning title after title. Now, however, with the appearance of this mystery man, it seems Cornell's COmpany may be on it's heels. Golden looks to lead a team of the best TCW has to offer, including #1 contender Ricky Dale Johnson, against the Syndicate's mahor players for the important momentum. ((Houston...erm...Minnesota, we have a problem)) Joey sat down across from me at the restaurant. I was feeling wonderful, as today was the second day in a row of waking up with no real neck pain. It seemed miraculous. "Okay, Joey, I'm pushing you as much as possibly, bringing me to dinner isn't gonna help you." Joey laughed a bit. Then his face became serious. "Have you seen this report?" He held a paper with a whole boatload of numbers on it. At the top read "Coverage". "Listen we are having problems here, and it's probably due to not having the most current patch." "Come again, Joey?" "Listen, I can't explain it now. Maybe someday in the future. However, something... drastic is going to happen. You may get confused. Just...be prepared, ok?" "Ok?" Joey nodded. "Okay, that's it, guy. See ya at the show, hopefully." He walked off, and the waiter came over and asked what I wanted to eat.
Rocky Golden walks out wearing sunglasses. He removes them and stares at the camera. "Cornell, jabroni, listen up. Rocky says your days are numbered. In fact, Rocky goes so far as to say he guarentees Cornell's days are numbered. You and Wolf can take your championship belts. Shine 'em up real nice. Turn 'em sideways. AND STICK 'EM STRAIT UP YOUR CANDY ASSES! If you sme-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-ll what Rocky ... is cooking." [B-]
Man, as if I didn't despise this load of (to steal your phrase) wet garbage to begin with. Seeing Golden in an interview like this makes me wish Freddie Huggins would catch Rocky playing beach blanket bingo with Laura and shoot the big lump dead. And then find a court to let him off for the crime.

I woke up to a stinging pain in my back and neck area. Someone was slapping me, shouting something to someone else. It felt so surreal, and my blurry vision didn't help much. Okay, think Jack, think. You went to bed last night in your bed . Now... Even with my blurry vision I could tell I wasn't home. "Get a god damn doctor down here!" Someone wasn't happy. Wait, was I the one who needed a doctor? Why, I felt fine. In fact, I tried to move to tell them... Ok, not fine. Not fine at all. Something was wrong. Pain shot throughout my neck and back. "Okay, it's okay Jack. Don't move, we'll get you to a hospital." A voice...so familiar... Tommy's? Then my hearing came back. A buzz, like a microphone feedback. It all seemed so familiar...so... Oh, crap. As I was loaded onto the stretcher I saw a banner. "Welcome to Puerto Rico, TCW!"

((Yes, I restarted. Something was weird with the file, in that it didn't register my TV show, or something like that. Hopefully the patch fixes it, or I'll have to take a trip to the Tech Support thread.))

So, the story remained the same. Tommy offered me a job. The only thing different was Joey. Something was ... up. Eventually I'd get to the bottom of it, but for now I had my second chance at a first impression. So you have to redo everything over, or are you just going to fast forward? Or does the past count too? /confused Chance Fortune vs. Sammy Bach Danny Fonzarelli vs. Scout Guide vs. Charlie Thatcher American Buffalo vs. Joey Minnesota Brent Hill vs. Rick Law John Anderson vs. Ricky Dale Johnson Rocky Golden vs. Wolf Hawkins Eddie Peak vs. Sam Keith Tommy Cornell vs. Tyson Baine
