Week 1, July 2008 - Four UFC contracted workers have found new camp homes which include Roger Huerta (North County Fight Club), Joe Stevenson (The Pit), Alvin Robinson (Team Link), and Tomasz Drwal (Cro Cop Squad Gym). Both Huerta and Drwal are looking to get right into things as both have fights at upcoming UFC 87 in August. - The UFC has been hit with two major injuries. Coming off his title loss at UFC 86, it has been reported that Quinton Jackson has suffered some sort of head injury, looking to be a concussion, and will be out of training for at least a month and maybe two. The other one comes as a huge hit as top contender to the UFC Heavyweight Title and #7 Heavyweight in the world, Fabricio Werdum has suffered a foot injury during training. It looks to be serious and puts 'Vai Cavalo' on the shelf for at least six months. - A few MMA promotions have been making moves and signing workers to contracts with the biggest splash possibly coming from IFL. International Fight League has added three big names including Andrei Arlovski, Josh Barnett and Frank Trigg. That's not all though as Strikeforce went out and picked up two big names as well, Robbie Lawler and Tim Sylvia. The biggest signing though will be heading to Cage Rage. They have locked up Fedor Emelianenko to an exclusive 10 fight/36 month contract, giving the top UK promotion a huge addition. - Also, coming out of Japan, DREAM 5 has been announced for Monday, Week 1, August 2008 with the main event crowning the first ever Lightweight Champion. It will be Tatsuya Kawajiri battling against Eddie Alvarez. Week 2, July 2008 - Two UFC contracted workers have found new camp homes which include Matt Grice (808 Fight Factory) and Jeremy Stephens (Torres Martial Arts). Three workers have also left their camps, Luis Arthur Cane (Gibi Thai), Diego Sanchez (Alliance MMA) and Frank Edgar (Rhino Fight Team). Edgar is the only one to find a new home (Elite Performance), and he will be getting right to work, training for his upcoming fight with Hermes Franca. - Another big name has been signed to Strikeforce after they announced the signings of Robbie Lawler and Tim Sylvia last week. Joining his adopted younger brother Frank Shamrock, Ken Shamrock has signed a fighting deal after just fighting once since 2006 with the UFC. - The Fight Network has been busy as of late as three promotions have inked deals to get MMA on the network. IFL with HDNet and EliteXC with Showtime, expand their TV specials to The Fight Network airing them as well. TKO Fighting Championship has also gained TV specials thanks to The Fight Network, airing as TKO Battlefield. - DREAM continues to do big things in the MMA world as they have struck a deal with ProElite Online PPV to start airing some of their events on Pay-Per-View. DREAM 5 will be the first to air on Monday, Week 1, August 2008. -Two presidental spots have been filled, pertaining to ICON Sport and Adrenaline MMA. Taking over for Adrenaline will be the well-known retired fighter Guy Mezger. The big surprise comes with ICON Sport though, as taking over as President is none other then the owner of the Dallas Mavericks and the chairman of HDNet, Mark Cuban. - Many events for August have been announced including: Cage Rage 26: Live! Sold Out! (Tuesday, Week 1, August 2008) - Tengiz Tedoradze defends against Fedor Emelianenko for the CR British Heavyweight Title TKO 35: Reckless Life (Thursday, Week 1, August 2008) - Hatsu Hioki defends against Richard Ho for the TKO Featherweight Title WEC 35: Tough Love (Saturday Week 1, August 2008) - Urijah Faber defends against Mike Thomas Brown for the WEC Featherweight Title EliteXC: Deuces Are Wild (Saturday, Week 1, August 2008) - Robbie Lawler defends against Murilo Rua for the EliteXC Middleweight Title IFL: Into The Void (Monday, Week 2, August 2008) - Benji Radach vs. Frank Trigg Strikeforce: Darkness Falls (Wednesday, Week 2, August 2008) - Cung Le defends against Kazuo Misaki for the Strikeforce Middleweight Title - Also, Cage Rage Gladiators on The Fight Network has announced its next TV special for Tuesday, Week 3, August 2008. - Big news out of the Randy Couture situation with the UFC. Dana White has announced that if Couture and the UFC don't settle a deal by the end of 2008, 'The Natural' will no longer be the Heavyweight Champion. If it comes to this decision, the current Interim Heavyweight Champion at the time will be announced as the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion. Nothing was heard on the side of Couture when news broke and if he continues to act the way he has been with this situation, it won't seem to bother Couture at all. Week 3, July 2008 - Three UFC contracted workers have found new camp homes which include Diego Sanchez (Team Punishment), Luis Arthur Cane (Gracie Fusion) and Manny Gamburyan (Ultimate Fitness). - DirecTV 2 has been busy as of late as it has struck a deal with two MMA promotions, IFL and WVR. This week they have signed a deal with Versus to air ICON Sport Combat as a TV special. - Speaking of the Hawaiian promotion, ICON Sport: Big City Nights has been announced for Saturday, Week 2, August 2008 with Daniel Lima in the main event facing off against Takeya Mizugaki.
UFC Ultimate Fight Night 14, also being called UFC: Silva vs. Irvin will be taking place tonight at the Palms Casino Resort. Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva will be making his debut in the Light Heavyweight division as he takes on contender James Irvin. Last night were the official weigh-ins for the event.
