Nick Clements, All American Coach

Recommended Posts

Please be patient with me, I have very little clue what I am doing "Ladies and Gentlemen, I thank you for attending this press conference. For years our program has been the bottom of the barrel. We, as a university, believe that this young man will lead our program for many years to come." I had been waiting for this day since my first day at the Academy of Holy Angels. To be a Division 1 head football coach. Growing up in the 90's, I watched the end of the Tom Osbourne era. Then I watched the bad Frank Solich era. That was followed up by the HORRIBLE west coast offense coach known as Bill Callahan. I have watched Bo Pellini coach for three seasons, and I have to say, I am pretty impressed. I think he has won around 30 games over the three years at Nebraska. My Name is Nick Clements and I am 24 years old. I played my college football at the College of St. Scholastica, in Duluth, Minnesota. I was part of the very first program from 2008-2011. We went 4-4 our first year, when our team was comprised of 80% freshman. The next year we won the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference championship the next year. When we were playoff eligible my senior year, we made the national tournament, where we lost to powerhouse Wisconsin-Whitewater in the first round. I spent a year being a graduate assistant, where we won another conference title.
I was asked to stay on as a position assistant, because CSS was switching into the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. I was also enticed with the fact that CSS wants to go D-II in five years. I told them that I would consider, however, I had to turn them down when I was given an interview for this job. I admit that it isn't Nebraska but it is a nice gig. Ladies, and Gentlemen, I give to you the New Football Coach. Nicholas Clements Well, here we go. all the way DOWN UNDER
I already know that I will use an option offense, and I will use a 3-3-5 stack. Thank god my AD doesn't expect much out of my team this year. We have only 2 defensive players over a 2 star ranking. The coach before me had a recruiting class of 116th. we are only expected to win 1 or 2 games and be competitive. BE COMPETITIVE against Kent State. I can already tell I will cut about half of these seniors.

The scored stayed 0-0, thanks to 2 Idaho interceptions, for much of the first quarter, however Idaho dominated the ball. Then Idaho punted and got the Zips on there own 2. You guessed it, Safety. Then the Vandals drove all the way down and kicked a field goal. 5-0. It looked bleak with 32 seconds left in the first quarter, this new option offense had garnered a great total of -10 yards of total offense. Then Nick went against the grain and went with a play that no one expected, a hail mary play from the Flexbone, which garnered 63 yards and got them to the 4 yard line.
A quick False Start ended the momentum, as the Zips had to kick a field goal, 5-3. The Vandals drove all the way down and hit another field goal, 8-3. The zips had a great chance to score, as the option really came alive for Nick Clements, and the got all the way down to the 3, and on 4 and 2, Nick went for the gutsy move of giving it to his fullback. The Vandals stopped him a yard short. A nice 3 and out stop by the defense got the Zips great field position at the Vandals 36. The Zips had a great opportunity squandered, as a 48 yard field goal attempt was blocked. Another nice three and out by the zips defense got the offense back on the field with 27 ticks left in the half. A great 51 yard completion got them down to the Idaho 40, but they could not capitalize before the half time horn blew.
The zips kicked off to begin the second half. Idaho started at their own 12. You guessed it, another 3 and out. Forcing the Vandals to punt and giving Akron good field position at their own 47. This drive was when the Zips finally broke the plane of the endzone. With three straight options getting them to the 10 yard line. That is when Nick Clements decided to do the unthinkable, throw the ball. SACK for loss of nine. than, another option for a gain of one. Then back to the throw for the zips, and that is when the coverage was blown, because the bubble screen gained eighteen yards for the score, 9-8. Everyone was trying to think why Nick would do it, but he went with the option for two, and CONVERTED!!!! 11-8. The defense got off to a rocky start but now are just turning out 3 and outs like nobody's business. That's like the 4 straight one today. The zips had a scare when quarterback Ollie Lyons fumbled the ball on the 24 yard line. After another option lost a yard, Ronnie King was called on to kick a field goal, and his kick fell short by 3 yards. So, the Vandals took over at the 24 yard line. The vandals had several nice passes and got within the ten when the Zips defense showed up again. Forcing Idaho into a field goal. 11-11. The zips returned the kick to their own 47. Then they fumbled. Giving back to Idaho. The defense are really showing there character by giving the offense a chance to win this game. the punt went for a touchback.
Zips have to punt after a creaming sack by the vandals. It looked like Akron would give up another touchdown after a holding penalty by the strong safety put the Vandals on the 15, but the very next play the pass was intercepted at the 1, and returned 6 yards. The zips looked dead in the desert as they faced a fourth and 3 on their own 14, and Nick Clements decided to go for it. With a Full back dive out of the Wing T, they got the first down by a yard. The Zips got another first down but were forced to punt with 6:49 left in the game. The Vandals got into a 3-13 situation from there 11 and threw a screen, S. Corona got to the 15 and then got Plastered by the Free Safety and fumbled. Recovered by Arnold Zimmerman. The Zips looked like they would take the final lead of the game when they had a 13 yard option pitch. Then a fullback dive led to a fumble. The Vandals recovered the ball at the 6. The Defense for the zips, again, bails the offense out again, as they force the Vandals to punt on a three and out. Nick Clements got the ball at the 36 with 2:11 to go in the game. A fullback dive gained zero yards. Another option fullback dive got a gain of zero yards. A play action pass got a gain of 7. On 4th and 3 with 1:45 and counting on the clock, Nick Clements called on the Field Goal unit to take the lead. Snap good, hold good, kick good.... EXCEPT it was short. Vandal ball with 1:19 left. Same story, different chapter. 3 and out. Nick Clements and the Zips got the ball back at their own 18 with 39 seconds left. The zips got the ball all the way down to their own 48. With seven seconds left Nick called an all streaks play. Incomplete. That means OVERTIME
Very first play was the Akron quarterback getting sacked for 11 yard loss. The very next play was a 27 yard gain. 1st and 10 from the 9 for the zips. 3 plays later, and 1 yard later, a field goal was MISSED WIDE LEFT!!!!!! Vandals ball. First play, Incomplete pass. Second play, false start. Third play, No gain. Fourth play, loss of four yards. Fifth play, Loss of five yards. Field Goal attempt is GOOD!!!! 14-11. hey guys, I was wondering a couple things. First off, I wanted to know if there was interest in having like a post game press conference where you guys submit questions and I will answer them, in game. Also, do you like the write-ups or would you like play by play log?

First year coach Nick Clements has his second game with the ball at his own 25. After a quick hand off to the right side picked up 3 yards, Nick decided to pitch it to the other side. Another three yard gain. He then hit another toss, this time from the weak I, picked up 30 yards. Next play was a strung out option to the left, cant go out left three times in a row with success all the time. He then told TCU to beat the three man team of his QB, HB, and WB. A triple option to the Right got 16 more yards. It is a much better start for Akron this game, who came in as an 11 point underdog. Two more runs and a loss of 6 yards. 3rd and 16 from the TCU 30. Nick Clements calls a play-action pass and it worked! it froze the defenders for a second, and Ollie Lyons zips a pass to David Edwards, Gain of 18. FIRST DOWN!!!! Another gain, this time for 5 yards. 2nd and 5 from the 7 yard line. Gain of 2 from his WB. 3rd and 3 from the 5. Another play action pass fools the defense for a gain of 3 yards. 1st and goal from the 2. First down play is a fullback dive. loss of 3 yards. on second down, a halfback dive gains 2 yards. A toss to the left side results in the first touchdown of the Game. Ronnie King adds an extra point. 7-0 Akron is in the lead! TCU will be brought down at the 36. Wait, a flag, 15 yard facemask penalty on Akron. TCU will get it on Akron's 49 yard line. after i bad penalty, an even worse play. A pass from Nicholas Mcdonnell to Carlos Baker goes 49 yards for the score. Looks like another battle for Newcomer Nicholas Clements. 7-7. the kickoff sends Akron's offense on the field to start at there 19 yard line. but a false start sends them to their 14 yard line. After a long pass falls incomplete, a reverse to a wide receiver gains 9 yards. An unexpected fullback dive on 3rd and 6, garnered a 21 yard gain for another Zips first down. This game already has had more offense than all of last game combined. Another 2 plays and it is 2nd and 17. after a gain of 6, a 3rd down play-action pass didnt work, as Ollie was sacked for a loss of 1 yard. Akron is forced to Punt. Akron pinned TCU at their 11. after a 1st down play gains for yards, the TCU horned frogs got a six yard gain, just one problem... FUMBLE!!!!! picked up by Akron and returned to the 18. Fullback Jonathon Hall got the quick option hand off for the 14 yard gain. First and 10 from the 4. After two options push the zips back to the 10, they resort to the play action, like always. Incomplete pass. 4th and goal from the 10. Field Goal is good. 10-7. TCU will come start the drive on their own 41. A quick handoff garners TCU 12 more rushing yards. No one can stop the rush today! after two incomplete passes, TCU runs up the right sideline for gain of 11 yards. another incomplete pass, and then Akron finally holds TCU to 1 yard rushing on a play. However, a nice button hook gets TCU a first down. Next play goes for a gain of three yards, but FUMBLE!!!! too bad for Akron, it was recovered by TCU. Another rush hits a wall, as a 1 yard loss. The TCU horned frogs went to the well again, this time for a nice gain... but they FUMBLED again. recovered by Shawn Gunn of Akron and returned to the 22. The defense is the only thing keeping the Akron opponents from killing these poor Zips. A three and out for poor Akron. The punt is returned to the TCU 35. Gain of 23 yards. TCU is running all over the Zips. Another big play as the TCU horned frogs gain 33 yards on a pass. After a couple 2 yard gains, the Horned Frogs bust through for a touchdown. 14-10. Kickoff brings a touchback to the Akron Zips fortune. The first option brings a 22 yard gain. This game seems to be who can rush more. 3 more options bring a 4th and 5 at the 47. Horrible coverage. 38 yard punt and a return of 30 yards. 3 and out... or is it. TCU brings out the wishbone on a 4th and 2. Caught for pick up of 7. First down. Big play of 16 yards. a button hook pattern on 3rd and goal goes for a touchdown. 21-10. Kickoff returned to the Akron 10. A desperation pass attempt goes for a safety 23-10. The first three and out of the game for the Akron Defense gives the ball back to Akron with 45 seconds left and it is at the 22. 4 straight pass plays go incomplete. TCU hits the field goal. 26-10. Akron gets the ball back with 4 seconds left at their own 9. The Zips get sacked again. 28-10. TCU will take the ball at their own 38. The next two pass play go for 25 yards. Another run gets 19 yards. Two more rushes, and same story, Touchdown. 35-10. A good pass play goes for 25 yards for the Zips. SACKED for loss of 10 yards. Another pass play goes for 15 yards. Fourth down and 5 yards. Nick is going for it. He has too, in a sense. Gain of 18. Only if Akron went with an all air attack earlier. 3 straight incomplete passes. Nick is, sending out his Field Goal unit? Why, when he is down by 25 and his defense cant make a stand? The Snap...Good, the hold... Good, the Kick... WIDE RIGHT!!!!!! Oh My GAWD, Nick Clements just fell on his knees. Why would he do that!!!! people will be second guessing this decision post-game. 3 and out... the defense shows that it will not lay down. Akron gets the ball at the 25. Akron has a gain of 28 yards on a Play action pass. Turnover on downs as the ZIps went for it on a 4th and 10 from there 47. TCU shows there dominance with a gain of 14. The Zips force TCU to punt. Touchback. Gain of 37 on a streaking play. The quarter ends with 3 incomplete passes. first play in the quarter is 4th and 10. Incomplete pass. Nick Clements is astonished. His team cannot get anything going. TCU with a pass for a gain of 28 yards. Penalty for tripping makes it 2nd and 21 from the 38. Holding makes it 2nd and 31 from the 48. Akron gets the ball at their 6 with 11:58 left. And to cap off a perfect day. A streak pattern is picked off and returned to the Akron 27. Thank God TCU keeps getting penalties, or else this would be a massacre on top of an onslaught. Next play is a 25 yard gain. Same story different chapter. After 4 more runs, touchdown. 42-10. Akron gets the ball at their 18 yard line. a streak pass goes for a gain of 56 yards. Akron fumbled but it was recovered by Akron. after a sack and 3 incompletions. Akron gives the ball back on downs. Akron forced TCU to punt. Touchback. after 2 incompletions, the Akron zips ran a draw play... FUMBLE recovered by TCU. Akron holds TCU to a field goal. 45-10. Akron gets it at there 23. they bring it to the TCU 43. Game over
