Wrestlewar 91 Week Three February 1991

A video package is shown, hyping up the War Games Match with Sting, Dusty Rhodes, and the Steiner Brothers against the Four Horsemen or Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Barry Windham, and Sid Vicious. (B)

Black Tiger vs. Jushin Thunder Liger

High impact, high flying match tonight with Liger and Tiger trading all kinds of high impact moves that the crowd was really getting into towards the end. Tiger connects with a Frankensteiner off the top rope but it doesn’t get the pin. Attempted Black Tiger Bomb but Liger drops down. Palm strike sets up a brain buster which scores the pin for Jushin Thunder Liger. ©

Johnny B. Badd vs. the Nightstalker

Badd lasted longer than all of the Nightstalker’s other opponents but the end result was the same. A vicious Uranage Slam puts down Badd for the three count. (D)

Doom lost the WCW Tag Team Title Belts at the Onmi but vow to get them back by winning this number one contenders match against Chono and Hase tonight. (E and thus begins a long trend of fans ****ting on non wrestling segments)

Number One Contenders Match for the WCW World Tag Team Titles:

Hiroshi Hase and Masahiro Chono vs. Doom(w/Theodore R. Long)

Doom use their power offense to take down Chono and Hase but the devious nature of Chono and Hase isolate Reed in the ring, allowing him to get beat down for several minutes until he fights out and makes the hot tag to Simmons who is a house of fire. Powerslam brings Hase down but Chono enters the ring. Reed enters the ring and swings for Chono but he ducks and Simmons gets knocked down. Chono puts Reed down with a Yakuza Kick, allowing Hase to hoist up Simmons and power bomb him to score the pin and receive a WCW Tag Team Title Shot. (C-)

Doom bicker with each other after the match as Long tries to make peace and it works as neither man comes to blows. (E-)

Bob Backlund vs. Nikita Koloff

Backlund embarrassed Koloff with a series of amateur style takedowns and leglocks over the first couple of minutes but Koloff plowed through Backlund, taking him apart. This leads to a crushing Russian Sickle that pins Backlund and Koloff continues steamrolling the competition in World Championship Wrestling. ©

WCW Television Championship Match:

Brian Pillman vs. Tom Zenk©

Both men trade wrestling holds and high flying moves but Pillman viciously takes Zenk down to the canvas. Zenk is hammered by Pillman before he delivers a Hotshot for a nearfall. Swinging DDT gets another nearfall and Flying Cross Body but Zenk ducks that. Zenk pounds Pillman, delivering a running kneelift which sets up a fisherman suplex for the pin! Three seconds and Pillman was taken down by Zenk. Tom Zenk is still WCW Television Champion ©

Zenk is up and Pillman is as well, getting in Zenk’s face briefly before raising his hand and…extending it to shake as a sign of respect. Zenk takes it and both these two friends and former tag team partners have buried the hatchet, at least for tonight. (E+)

Beautiful Bobby Eaton vs. Scott Hall

Back and forth action, with Hall gaining the advantage because of his size and power. The crowd is cheering as Hall continues to work over Eaton with a Fallaway Slam but Eaton fights back with punches and a swinging neckbreaker but out comes Jimmy Garvin, Badstreet, and Diamond Dallas Page of the Freebirds. What are they doing out there? Page is on the apron as Badstreet enters the ring but Eaton takes him down. Garvin knees Eaton in the back of the head and sets him up for the Crucifix Power Bomb on Scott Hall. Hall covers Eaton hooking the leg to score the pin. (B-)

Badstreet, Jimmy Garvin, and Diamond Dallas Page enter the ring, to help Hall stomp a mudhole on Eaton before DDP gets on the microphone, to announce the newest member of the Freebirds, Scott Hall. The crowd boos as Hall strikes a pose over Eaton. (E+ and screw this crowd)

Wallstreet is out, with Alexandra York, with the computer saying that he will beat Lex Luger in less than twelve minutes and win the WCW United States Championship. ©

WCW United States Championship Match:

Michael Wallstreet(w/Alexandra York) vs. Lex Luger©

The offense of Wallstreet was no match with the speed and power of Luger, even using the ropes on an abdominal stretch, some eye gouges, and a couple of low blows just stalled Luger for seconds, before he blasted Wallstreet with a clothesline. Powerslam sets up the Torture Rack and naturally Wallstreet submits. Lex Luger is still the WCW United States Champion. ©

Out runs Nikita Koloff from the back and he punks Luger. Koloff obviously is reminding Luger that he shouldn’t forget about him. Luger is being stomped into a pile of goo and Koloff winds back, before he murders Luger with a vicious Russian Sickle. Luger is a crumpled heap. Last time, this put him on the shelf but before Koloff could deliver more punishment, security and road agents are out to break this up. (C+)

No Disqualification Match with Special Referee Terry Funk

Terry Gordy vs. Big Van Vader

Funk’s not going to take anything from either of these men, who beat each other up. Funk gives them a lot of space, including both men brawling though both of the ring set up for War Games tonight and Gordy busting open Vader like a stuck pig with a steel chair. Vader rips off the mask and pounds Gordy, before throwing him into the ring. Splash rocks Gordy and huge Power Bomb drills him down for a nearfall. Vader blasts Gordy with a short lariat and goes to the corner. Pump Splash connects but only another nearfall. Vader goes for a charge in the corner but Gordy ducks and neckbreaker sets up the Asiatic Spike. Vader is bleeding badly but he powers out and pounds Gordy. Another Power Bomb rocks Gordy. Vader picks up Gordy and another Power Bomb. A third Power Bomb in succession as Vader is just destroying Terry Gordy. Three Power Bombs in a row is enough to keep Gordy down and Vader scores the pin. ©

Vader continues to beat Gordy down but Funk gets in his face, knocking him backwards with punches. Funk jabs away at Vader before going for a clothesline but Vader mows down Funk. Vader yells he’s going to break Funk and he hoists him up. Power Bomb drills Funk down, dribbling the back of his head off of that canvas like a basket ball. Vader throws Funk to the floor as security enters the ring, some of them with stun guns and mace, but Vader just walks off, leaving Funk in a battered heap. (B-)

War Games Match:

Sting, The Steiner Brothers, and Dusty Rhodes vs. the Four Horsemen

Sting and Arn Anderson start out punching each other and Sting throws Anderson into the cage a couple of times. This match can’t end until all eight men are in and then it’s Surrender or Submit. After the first five minute period, Barry Windham runs out and the Horsemen double team Sting, beating him down until Scott Steiner makes the save, evening the odds for two minutes until Ric Flair comes out. Scott and Sting are dissected by the Horsemen for two more minutes until Rick Steiner comes out, cleaning house. Out comes Sid Vicious to swing the pendulum back into the Horsemen’s favor as Ric Flair is busted open on the cage and as has Windham, Sting, Scott Steiner, and Arn Anderson. Rick Steiner joins the bleeders by being dropped on an exposed turnbuckle by Sid and out comes Dusty Rhodes. The Match Beyond begins as Dusty Rhodes beats down on them but Sid kicks Dusty Rhodes and destroys him, setting him up for the Power Bomb, drilling him. The Steiners are spent as the Horsemen stomp Dusty, setting him up for the Figure Four Leglock. Dusty is trashed in the Figure-Four but Sting dives into the ring, over the Horsemen and onto Ric Flair. Sting then cleans house on the Horsemen, knocking them around. Stinger Splash to Anderson. Stinger Splash to Windham. Stinger Splash to Sid and Stinger Splash to the Nature Boy. Rick and Scott enter the ring to keep the Horsemen at bay as Sting throws Flair into the other ring, pounding him, before applying the Scorpion Deathlock to the NWA World Champion. Arn Anderson attempts to sneak into the ring but Rick Steiner pulls him back and beats him. Ric Flair hangs on for a minute before he has no choice but to give up. Sting has made the NWA World Champion submit in War Games! (B-)

Week Four February 1991 Tapings

WCW Saturday Night

Ric Flair is ranting right off the bat on WCW Saturday Night, saying that War Games was a fluke, when Sting made him submit to the Scorpion Deathlock. At the Omni Classic, Ric Flair vows to put the NWA Championship on the line against Sting, one more time, one last time, Flair will prove that he is the man and to be the man, you have to beat that man. Sting gets another shot, inside a steel cage, with no interference, no excuses. Either Ric Flair or Sting will beat the other. (A)

Star Blazer vs. Scott Hall(w/Diamond Dallas Page)

Star Blazer(aka Tim Horner) returns from injury and promptly gets stomped by Scott Hall and pinned with the Crucifix Power Bomb. The newest member of the Freebirds is on a roll. (D+)

Firebreaker Chip vs. Sid Vicious

Choke slam, Power Bomb, pin by Sid. (C-)

Sid continues to beat up Firebreaker Chip but OUT RUSHES EL GIGANTE! Gigante is back from the knee injury he suffered at the hands of the Four Horsemen and attacks Sid. Sid and Gigante brawl, with Sid looking better and Gigante looking a bit lost at time. Still, Sid bumps off of some chops as Gigante stands in the ring, arms raised as Sid yells threats, promising to rip Gigante’s legs off and beat him with them. ©

The Youngbloods vs. Doom(w/Teddy Long)

Doom looks to be back on the same page, after a minor hiccup at Wrestlewar and need this win to get another WCW World Tag Team Title Shot. Simmons pins Chris Youngblood with the Powerslam as one of the most dominating tag teams of the nineties look to be back on track, for tonight at least. (D-)

Shanghai Pearce vs. Van Hammer

Van Hammer wins with a spinebuster in less than a minute. (E+)

Hammer is in the ring but the crowd is booing as a man with long side burns enters the ring, dressed in a jumpsuit with a guitar. It’s the Honky Tonk Man and THE HONKY TONK MAN CROWNS VAN HAMMER WITH THE GUITAR! The Honky Tonk Man has arrived in WCW, dancing to boos. Hammer has been drilled as the Honky Tonk Man walks from the ring. (D)

Akio Sato vs. Beautiful Bobby Eaton

Eaton has been having his problems with the Freebirds recently and these two normally tag team wrestlers have a short singles match that ends with the Alabama Jam. Eaton pins Sato tonight on Saturday Night. (D+)

WCW World Tag Team Championship Match:

Badstreet and Jimmy Garvin(w/Diamond Dallas Page and Scott Hall) vs. the Steiner Brothers©

The Freebirds get the first crack at the new champions the Steiners after their victory at the Omni, but Chono and Hase are waiting in the wings after their number one contenders victory. Garvin and Badstreet use double teaming tactics, to keep the Dog Faced Gremlin off balance. Rick fights back and tag made to Scott Steiner, who enters the ring, throwing the Freebirds around. Scott Hall has the referee, allowing Diamond Dallas Page to hand Badstreet a pair of brass knuckles who swings them but Scott ducks and Garvin gets knocked out. Scott Steiner hits the Frankensteiner on Badstreet and pins him to retain the WCW World Tag Team Titles. (C+)

The Steiners leave the ring as Diamond Dallas Page is yelling at Badstreet and Scott Hall punks him from behind. Garvin joins in as the Freebirds are now stomping a mudhole in Badstreet. Badstreet is staggered up, being whacked by the brass knuckles by Page, before his mask is ripped off, revealing the face of Brad Armstrong. Garvin viciously plants Armstrong with a DDT and Scott Hall hoists him up, giving him the Crucifix Power Bomb three times in succession. Brad Armstrong aka Badstreet has been ejected from the Freebirds in the most painful way possible. He is broken, battered, and needs medical attention. (D-)

Sting promises to make Ric Flair submit at the Omni Classic and also promises to triumph against Dick Murdoch in one half of tonight’s double main event on TBS. (A)

Michael Wallstreet says the computer promises he will beat Bob Backlund and advance into the Omni Cup in less than ten minutes. He suffered his first loss against Lex Luger at Wrestlewar, but Alexandra York declares this is a new and improved model that can’t fail. (D+)

Omni Cup Qualifier:

Bob Backlund vs. Michael Wallstreet(w/Alexandra York)

Backlund has his share of aches and pains from his encounter with Nikita Koloff at Wrestlewar. Wallstreet continues to beat down Backlund but Backlund fights up from his feet, taking him down, working him over, attempting to make him submit with a variety of leg holds. York distracts Backlund but a low blow sets up the Wallstreet Crash. Wallstreet scores the pin and will advance into the Omni Classic to face off against the winner of tonight’s main event. (C-)

Big Van Vader is backstage, talking about his match with Dusty Rhodes. Vader says he’s Dusty’s master and will rip him apart and eat him for lunch. He remarks he took down Terry Gordy, Steve Williams, and Terry Funk, some of the toughest men in this business and he’s coming for Dusty and he will win that Omni Cup Tournament. Then he’s going to win the NWA Championship, Sting, Flair, or anyone else, it doesn’t matter, Vader will crush them and bury them underground, taking them out. Dusty will be the first stone to be crushed under foot. (B)

Sting vs. Dick Murdoch

This was not an easy bout for Sting, getting battered by Murdoch. It was obvious War Games had taken its toll on Sting and Murdoch beats down Sting, but Sting manages to take him down, Stinger Splash, and Scorpion Deathlock. Sting leans back and Murdoch submits, giving Sting the win. (C+)

Dusty Rhodes is backstage, preparing for his Omni Cup qualifier against Vader. He says Vader mentioned he would eat Dusty for lunch but Vader better pack one, because Dusty ain’t going down without a fight. He has fought hard and won’t give up for anything. Including a large bruiser like Vader. He will clubber Vader until he can’t get up anymore. (B+)

Omni Cup Qualifier:

Dusty Rhodes vs. Big Van Vader

Winner faces Wallstreet in the Quarterfinals on Pay Per View. Vader pounds Dusty but Dusty fights back, scratching, biting, punching, doing everything to survive against Vader. Powerslam by Vader puts Dusty down, which is no easy feat. Huge splash rocks Dusty for a nearfall. Jabs and avalanche, set up a pump splash but Dusty kicks out. It might take a forklift to get Dusty up for the Power Bomb and Vader knows it going to the top roe. Moonsault misses as Dusty moves and Vader wipes out himself on the canvas but quickly pulls himself back up into three jabs by Dusty followed by three elbowsmashes but Vader is still on his feet. Dusty climbs to the top rope and top rope elbowsmash to the head. The crowd cheers as Vader is dropped to the canvas. Dusty aims and drops the Bionic Elbow on Vader. Only a two count when Vader bench pressed Dusty off. Dusty looks like he saw a ghost and stomps Vader, before going to the top rope. He leaps off but Vader catches him and slams Dusty down. Vader to the second rope and splashes Dusty. Dusty is deflated on the canvas and Vader picks up Dusty for the Power Bomb but Dusty collapses on top of Vader for a two and a half count. Vader rips off the mask and pounds Dusty, opening up a cut underneath his eye. He keeps pounding on his eye until the referee gets shoved down. The referee won’t have any of this and calls for the disqualification. Dusty Rhodes wins the match and will advance into the Omni Cup Tournament via disqualification. (B-)

Security pours out to pull Vader off of Dusty, whose face is covered in a crimson mask. Dusty is the winner tonight but he doesn’t look like a winner.

WCW Omni Classic Tournament Week Two March 1991

A video package showing the history between Sting and Ric Flair, leading up to their match for the NWA Championship (A)

Onmi Cup Quarterfinal

Dusty Rhodes vs. Michael Wallstreet(w/Alexandra York)

Wallstreet and Dusty have a pretty solid opening match, with Wallstreet using every cheap tactic in the book. Dusty is too big for the Wallstreet Crash and he puts the clubbering on Wallstreet, hitting him with the Bionic Elbow for the pin. (B-)

Omni Cup Quaterfinal:

Brian Pillman vs. Nikita Koloff

It is the speed of Pillman against the power and sheer brute strength of Nikita Koloff. Pillman managed to keep a step ahead of Koloff for about six or seven minutes, but when Koloff got ahead of Pillman, it was the beginning of the end. He delivers a fallaway slam to Pillman, snapping him down and setting him up for the Russian Sickle for the pin. Pillman crumples on the canvas and Koloff pins him. It will be Koloff and Dusty in the next round of the Omni Cup. ©

Omni Cup Quarterfinal:

Lex Luger vs. Arn Anderson

This was a fantastic match, with Arn Anderson working over Luger, trying to negate the power game the best he could. Luger fights up, knocking around Anderson, before bringing him down with a powerslam. The Torture Rack is applied but the back of Luger is too trashed, so Anderson is easily able to slip from the grip of Luger. This allows Anderson to smack Luger with brass knuckles for a nearfall but a second shot is blocked and a huge clothesline drops Anderson long enough to score the pin. (B)

Omni Cup Quarterfinal:

Ron Simmons(w/Theodore R. Long) vs. Barry Windham

Good battle between these two men, but Windham has a bit more experience than Simmons in a singles match situation and the Lariat puts Simmons down for the pin after some intense power exchanges. Windham and Luger will take place in the other Semifinal(C+)

El Gigante vs. Sid Vicious

This was a brawl between two dangerous men. In fact, both men continued to brawl when they were spilled to the floor and brawled up the entrance way for a double countout. Security comes out to pry both of these men apart, but this feud is far from over. ©

Sting talks about his match with Ric Flair about how he is going to regain the NWA World Championship in the confines of a steel cage. (B+)

Omni Cup Semifinal

Dusty Rhodes vs. Nikita Koloff

Dusty Rhodes suffered a beating at the hands of Vader in the Qualifier a few weeks ago and fought a tough match with Wallstreet. Koloff mauls Dusty, trying to put him away early but Dusty fights back and dives at Koloff but Koloff moves and Dusty is hung upside down in the ropes. Koloff pounds Dusty as he is hung upside down by the ankle. The crowd is booing as Koloff refuses to relent, viciously kicking Dusty’s ankle as it is twisted in the ropes, the same ankle that the Four Horsemen broke years ago! The referee gets fed up and disqualifies Koloff but Dusty’s ankle might be already broken. (C+)

The crowd boos as Koloff drills the referee with the Russian Sickle and gives a few more kicks to the ankle, dislodging Dusty, causing him to fall at an awkward angle on his ankle. The crowd cheers as Lex Luger runs out. Luger has seen enough and he rocks Koloff with punches, despite being in the Omni Cup Semifinal against Windham in a few minutes. Koloff steps back and knees Luger, before throwing him into the buckles. RUSSIAN SICKLE WIPES OUT LEX LUGER! The crowd explodes into boos as Luger has been destroyed. Koloff finally is escorted out as paramedics help a limping Dusty to the back. Luger already suffered a back injury at the hands of Arn Anderson and now out comes Barry Windham to pick up the pieces. (C+)

Omni Cup Semifinal:

Lex Luger vs. Barry Windham

Somehow Luger kicks out of the Russian Sickle and Windham beats him down. Luger fights back valiantly, despite suffering a beating from Windham. Some punches and a clothesline but Luger collapses, clutching his throat, still feeling the effects of the Russian Sickle. Windham delivers another flurry of high impact moves, ending with a vicious Lariat and this time Luger is put down. It will be Dusty Rhodes and Barry Windham for the Omni Cup. (B)

WCW World Tag Team Titles:

Hiroshi Hase and Masahiro Chono vs. the Steiner Brothers©

Solid tag team match with a bit missing. Still after Rick Steiner suffered a prolonged beaten by the challengers, a hot tag was made. Scott Steiner throws Chono and Hase around, before he pins Chono with the Frankensteiner capping off a successful title defense. (C+)

Ric Flair cuts a promo, hyping up his match with Sting tonight. (A)

Omni Cup Finals:

Dusty Rhodes vs. Barry Windham

Dusty is limping badly but he brings the fight to Windham for the first few minutes, until a kick to the ankle brings him down. Windham continues to assault Dusty, trying to pick that ankle apart. Dusty’s ankle buckles slightly but he somehow fights back. Huge clothesline brings Windham down. Elbows by Dusty rocks Windham and Bionic Elbow Smash gets a two and a half count. The crowd is cheering but Dusty gets hit in the ankle and decked with the Lariat for a nearfall. Windham hits the bulldog but Dusty won’t stay down. Windham folds the ankle back in a modified leglock but Dusty manages to fight out. Another elbow to the head and Sleeperhold applied by Dusty but Windham counters with a jawbreaker and manages to muscle Dusty up on the top rope for the Superplex but Dusty collapses on Windham with a cradle, holding him down long enough to score the pin. Dusty Rhodes is the winner of the Omni Cup Tournament! ©

NWA World Championship Steel Cage Match:

Sting vs. Ric Flair

Sadly due to time constraints, these two men only got fourteen minutes to tell their story. It was a good fourteen minutes, in lacking, with Sting running wild early, slamming Flair into the cage, and Flair bleeding, before punishing him with power moves. Flair works over the knee of Sting and Figure-Four Leglock but Sting reverses. Flair is punished and Stinger Splash before the Scorpion Deathlock is applied. Flair pounds the injured left knee to force the hold to be broken and hoists up Sting, before ramming headfirst onto the metal bar of the cage. Flair collapses on Sting who has been knocked out and scores the pin to retain the NWA Championship. As a result, Sting doesn’t get any more title shots during Ric Flair’s eighth reign as NWA Champion. (B-)

Backstage for the Next Set of Television Tapings:

The Omni Classic was a fine Pay Per View, better than Wrestlewar. Our new policy of monthly Pay Per Views continues with Spring Stampede in April. The planned main event was Ric Flair defending the NWA World Championship against the Great Muta. However, Muta wasn’t coming in, due to NJPW not willing to send any of their title holders overseas, understandable I guess, but frustrating. Muta will be in soon I hope but a routine check of contracts has revealed a very interesting clause, a guarantee that needs to be fulfilled by the end of 1991. Giving the fact that I’m now out of a title match, killing two birds with one stone is appropriate.

Still, I’d rather not have this man in the main event, but the contract was drawn up before I was here and Turner has discouraged me from getting into any legal troubles if I could avoid it. Plus Koloff/Luger, Windham/Sting, and Funk/Vader should all be good matches that will offset this odd little title match and some others are in the works as well. Of course, Flair might be able to work some magic like he has so many other times in his career.

Also CMLL and NJPW have loaned some of their guys, because the WCW Juniorheavyweight Title Tournament is about ready to begin. The finals will take place at Spring Stampede, but this is a sixteen man single elimination tournament. There should be some great matches, I hope.

Week Three March 1991 Television Tapings

WCW Saturday Night

Paul E. Dangerously is out(fresh off of suspension), announcing the WCW Juniorheavyweight Title Tournament. WCW will be the home of some of the best high flying wrestling action in the world soon, as sixteen men from around the world have entered a single elimination tournament for the WCW Juniorheavyweight Title and the finals will be held at Spring Stampede. (B-)

First Round of the Juniorheavyweight Title Tournament:

Rey Bucanero vs. Brian Pillman

Bucanero is from the CMLL promotion in Mexico, and of course we all know Brian Pillman too well. Some great high flying action, ending with Pillman hitting a swift DDT out of the corner for the pin. Pillman advances to the elite eight of the tournament. (C-)

First Round of the Juniorheavyweight Tournament:

Robbie V vs. Scorpio

Both of these men have been on WCW programming recently and they have a chance to go for the gold, with the winner facing Pillman in the Quarterfinals in two weeks. Scorpio connects with the Scorpio Splash, with Robbie V missing a moonsault with his legs spread across the top rope. Some good exchanges but the fans ran cold for this. (D)

Dusty Rhodes speaks about his victory at the Omni Classic, saying that he’s proven the Dream is back. He had a tough night but he triumphed. (C+)

Awesome Kong and Jacko Victory vs. the Steiner Brothers

This was a nice squash, as the Hardliners watch from the ramp, keeping an eye on the Steiners. Steiner Bulldog puts Kong away. (C+)

Norman the Lunatic vs. Sid Vicious

Sid has thrown around much smaller men before but Norman is no small man and Sid manhandles him. Norman pinballs, but sadly recent cost cutting measures to bring in new talent mandates this is his last match, despite his admirable performance. Maybe in the future. Sid delivers, not one, not two, but three Power Bombs on Norman and pins him. (B-)

Sid has pretty much Power Bombed Norman the Lunatic into a coma, but out comes Dusty Rhodes. The Omni Cup Champion is in the ring as Sid goes for another Power Bomb and elbow to the head of Sid. Sid is rocked and more elbows. It takes about four before Dusty drops the tree! Sid bounces off and kicks Dusty in the face, before clothesling him to the outside. Dusty pulls Sid to the floor and both of these men are trading punches. The locker room empties, as Sid and Dusty continue to brawl. Sid grabs a microphone, saying if Dusty wants a piece of him, he will give him one, more than he can handle at Spring Stampede. Dusty accepts the challenge as Sid Vicious and Dusty Rhodes will square off at Spring Stampede. (B+-these two segments were great, Sid is showing more fire and promise every week. It’s almost…scary)

WCW Television Championshp Match:

Hiroshi Hase vs. Tom Zenk©

By the numbers title defense with Zenk reversing the Power Bomb into a sunset flip to score the pin. (D+)

Out comes Arn Anderson, applauding Zenk’s victory, before remarking that he has some unfinished business with the Z-Man. That’s why he cost Zenk that Omni Classic Match last week against Barry Windham, to prove to him that the Enforcer is still out there and has his eyes set on the Television Championship. Anderson challenges Zenk to a match at Spring Stampede, where the fifteen minute television time limit is waved. It doesn’t matter if it takes Anderson five seconds, five minutes, or five hours to beat Zenk, there is no time limit and rest assure, Double A will win. Zenk accepts and Anderson wishes Zenk luck in keeping the belt between now and Spring Stampede, because Double A wants to beat him for it personally. (C+)

WCW Junior Heavyweight Championship Tournament First Round Match:

The Star Blazer vs. Tiger Mask III

Sadly, something was lacking in this match, most likely due to the contrast of styles. Tiger Mask III pinned Star Blazer with the Tiger Suplex to win. (E+)

WCW Junior Heavyweight Championship Tournament First Round Match:

Wild Pegasus vs. Black Tiger

This was a great, high impact match. The crowd really got into the sequence of nearfalls at the end between these two great athletes. Black Tiger comes out with the Black Tiger Bomb in a match that really deserved about five or ten more minutes but you know…television time constraints and all that. So Black Tiger and Tiger Mask III in the Quarterfinals. (C-)

El Gigante vs. Arn Anderson

This was Anderson pinballing for five minutes off of Gigante’s offense. The crowd is cheering as Anderson made the crowd believe that Gigante was a threat and out comes the NWA World Champion Ric Flair, clipping Gigante in the leg for the cheap disqualification. ©

Flair and Anderson double team Gigante but he fights back, knocking the Horsemen to the floor. The crowd is giving some cheers and Ric Flair rushes up to the announcer’s podium, grabbing the microphone, going into a ballistic tirade about how he’s not going to let an overgrown punk like Gigante get the better of the Nature Boy. In fact, Spring Stampede, Gigante can have the opportunity of a life time. A match for the championship but Flair says if Gigante dares steps into the Nature Boy’s ring, that will be the last ring he will be walking into and he won’t be walking out. Gigante accepts the challenge and we have an odd NWA Championship Match for Spring Stampede. (B- and yes, Gigante and Flair will happen, but also Sting/Windham, Koloff/Luger, Dusty/Sid, Funk/Vader and Zenk/Anderson will take place, which should help pad out the card nicely)

Sting vs. Big Van Vader(w/Harley Race)

It is announced that since Vader is facing the returning Terry Funk at Spring Stampede, he has enlisted the help of one of Funk’s former rivals, Harley Race, to be in his corner and this is the first time tonight. Sting uses his speed and agility to the advantage, but there is only so much you can do to a brick wall with dropkicks and Vader clotheslines Sting, before beating him down, until most of the face paint chips off. Corner splash misses and Sting hits two Stinger Splashes but Vader isn’t even staggered. Sting powerslams Vader down, drawing cheers but only scores a nearfall. To the outside and Sting leaps off with a flying clothesline for another nearfall. Sting beats on Vader and the referee gets bumped. Vader is down and Sting goes for the Scorpion Deathlock but we never know if Sting could turn Vader over as Barry Windham rushes Sting and knocks him out with a punch to the back of the head. Vader hoists up Sting and Power Bomb drills him down. This puts Sting down and Vader wins, scoring perhaps the biggest win in his WCW career over the former NWA Champion. (B-)

I like what you got going but putting 7 matches in an hour is ridiculous... cool it off a little bit :S

Especially with a re-visit to the Florida territory with Dusty Rhodes vs Kevin Sullivan.... that match alone should be at least a 12 minute ordeal in the main event

Though, I do have to say, I really enjoy what you're doing here... I've been catching up on it today, excellent read

Week Four March 1991 Television Taping

WCW Saturday Night

Beautiful Bobby Eaton has a chance of a lifetime, against Ric Flair for the NWA Championship. He announces that he will the beat the champion and also challenges the Freebirds Trio of Scott Hall, Diamond Dallas, and Jimmy Garvin to a six man tag team match at Spring Stampede, with Eaton and two partners of his choosing. (D+)

First Round of the WCW Junior Heavyweight Title Tournament

The Juicer vs. El Ultimo Dragon

Sadly did not happen to be that good of a match due to chemistry issues. Dragon finishes off the Juicer with an Asai Moonsault twisted into a cross body block. (E+)

First Round of the WCW Junior Heavyweight Title Tournament:

Octagon vs. Jerry Lynn

Octagon was the favorite but Lynn showed some promise, and managed to shock the world by pinning Octagon with a Tornado DDT to score the pin. Dragon and Lynn is the third quarterfinal. (D)

Michael Wallstreet cuts a promo, saying that he will get the biggest win in his career by beating Sting. York adds that the computer predicts that Sting will be struck down in nine minutes or less. ©

Charlie Norris and Tom Brandi vs. Steve Williams and Terry Gordy

Gordy and Williams have something in common, as they are rough neck brawlers that never back down for a pop and they made quick work out of the enhancement talent tonight. Williams wins with a backdrop driver(albeit a sanitized North American variety) on Norris. (D-)

Thomas Rich vs. “Heavy Metal” Van Hammer

Ninety seconds, see this is what happens when about half of the roster bitches about not getting in the show enough recently. The Honky Tonk Man runs out, braining Hammer with the guitar for the disqualification. Afterwards, Honky lays him out with the Shake, Rattle, and Roll. (E)

Bob Backlund vs. Dan Spivey

This one gets a little time, and Backlund’s 1970s offense gains the advantage, before Spivey beats him down. A huge Power Bomb but Backlund is in the ropes. Another one is countered with a back drop into a double arm cradle for the pin. (D+)

The Nightstalker rushes out and knocks around Backlund, laying him out with a vicious Uranage Slam. Backlund has been destroyed by the Nightstalker, who stands over him, looking imposing and menacing. The Nightstalker has had been on quite the winning streak recently and he’s marked Backlund as a victim. (D)

P.N. News vs. Kevin Sullivan

Clothesline by News. Splash misses. Sullivan beats on News and wins with a snap mare and a double stomp. Dusty and Sullivan will face off on Power Hour. (E+)

The Master Blaster vs. Big Van Vader(w/Harley Race)

The Master Blaster is seven foot one inch tall and Vader still brutalizes him. Actually not a complete squash as the Master Blaster gets in some knees and two clotheslines but this only serves to make Vader more ticked as he laces into the Master Blaster, ending a three minute battle with the Power Bomb. Who’s the man? Vader in this case as he gets the three. (D+)[/b]

Terry Funk runs down as Vader beats on the Master Blaster and Funk attacks Vader, dropping him down. Funk has a pair of brass knuckles on his hand and beats down Vader with them, knocking him through the ropes. Vader falls and bounces off but Race holds him back. Funk tells Vader to “bring it, you fat bastard”, a line I’m sure Turner Standards and Practices will just love. Vader also has two black eyes but enters the ring and Funk jumps him, continuing to beat him. Funk and Vader square off at Spring Stampede, based on some recent altercations, including Vader laying out Funk back at Wrestlewar. Finally after several tries, the brawl is broken up. (B- and after this, the match should be good, providing they click in the ring)

WCW Junior Heavyweight Title Tournament:

Sam Houston vs. Jushin Thunder Liger

I’ll be blunt, this half of the tournament has a lot of fillers and Liger pins Houston with a fisherman buster after three minutes. (D+)

WCW Junior Heavyweight Title Tournament Round One:

Terry Taylor vs. Tracey Smothers

This was Taylor pinning Smothers with Five Arm in a short and quite frankly the most underwhelming match of the tournament. (E+)

Ric Flair cuts a promo, hyping up his title defenses against Beautiful Bobby Eaton tonight and El Gigante at Spring Stampede. (C and this was subpar for Flair)

Shanghai Pearce vs. Lex Luger

The announcers barely get off the hype for Koloff and Luger for Spring Stampede, before Luger pinned Pearce with the clothesline in less than thirty seconds(D+)

Dick Slater vs. Scott Steiner

Impressive little brawl for the time it got. The crowd was cheering as Steiner came back, beating Slater, throwing him around with suplexes but Dick Murdoch runs out, attacking Scott Steiner from behind for the disqualification. (C+)

The Hardliners double team Scott Steiner in the ring and Rick Steiner attempts to make the save, but he’s beaten down as well. The crowd is booing, as the Hardliners beat the Steiners, leaving the WCW World Tag Team Champions laying in a crumpled heap. (C+ and the next tag team title program is set up officially)

Sting vs. Michael Wallstreet(w/Alexandra York)

Sting finally gets his hands on the man who cost him the NWA Championship, Barry Windham, as part of Spring Stampede. Wallstreet makes the most of his opportunity, trying to get back on track after recent big time losses to Dusty Rhodes and Lex Luger. The match does end in the time predicted, but unfortunately for Mr. Wallstreet, it ends with Sting slapping on the Scorpion Deathlock and forcing a submission. (B)

NWA World Championship Match:

Beautiful Bobby Eaton vs. Ric Flair©

These two men have a good match in the nine minutes they are allowed. Perhaps a future match for Pay Per View but it is a condensed version of the matches they have been having on the last run of house shows around the horn, with Eaton coming close to winning the championship but missing the Alabama Slam. Flair applies the Figure-Four Leglock and Eaton submits, giving Flair the victory. He will put that belt on the line against the seven foot seven giant, El Gigante, at Spring Stampede. (B-)

Show Rating: C+

WCW Power Hour

P.N. Newz and Big Josh defeated Curtis Hughes and The Equalizer when Newz pinned Hughes, whose contract expired the next day and didn’t renew it. (E+)

Steve Williams squashed Firebreaker Chip with the Doctor Bomb(D)

Flair speaks on Gigante(C, Flair must have been partying too hard the other day. These promos are way under his normal level)

El Gigante squashed Akio Sato and Awesome Kong(E+)

Dusty talks about Sid at Spring Stampede and Kevin Sullivan for tonight(B-)

Scorpio pinned Todd Champion with the Scorpio Splash(E+)

Sid Vicious pinned Shanghai Pearce with the Power Bomb(C-)

Honky Tonk Man pinned Johnny B. Badd after using the ropes for leverage(C-)

Dusty Rhodes pinned Kevin Sullivan with the Bionic Elbow(C-)

Well a few roster cuts, as in Norman the Lunatic, Curtis Hughes, and Deadeye Dick have been cut, due to their performance stats not living up to Turner's goals. Also, Jim Herd officially resigned from WCW, seeing the writing on the wall for his job and moved onto other things for the Turner media empire.

And now, the line ups for the next set of tapings.

Week One April 1991

WCW Saturday Night

WCW Junior Heavyweight Title Tournament Quarterfinals:

Brian Pillman vs. Scorpio

The crowd is cheering as both men go back and forth for this match, scoring nearfalls and having a fun little match. Scorpio Splash misses and Pillman runs up the ropes, before connecting with a Swinging DDT, dumping Scorpio on his head to score the pin and advance to the semifinals. (C-)

Arn Anderson and Barry Windham are backstage. Tonight, the Horsemen step into the ring against their enemies in Sting and Dusty Rhodes and promise to give them a beating. (B)

WCW Junior Heavyweight Title Tournament Quarterfinals:

Tiger Mask III vs. Black Tiger

Another fun back and forth match between these two rivals from Japan. Black Tiger goes for the Black Tiger Bomb but Tiger Mask III slips behind and hits the Tiger Suplex for a nearfall. Tiger Mask III climbs to the outside and up top but Black Tiger crotches him on the top rope. Super Black Tiger Bomb brings Tiger Mask III down to the canvas and Black Tiger covers, scoring the pin to advance to the semifinals against Brian Pillman in two weeks. (C-)

Tom Brandi vs. Dan Spivey

Spivey destroys Brandi in this match, pinning him with a huge Power Bomb. (D)

Charlie Norris vs. Nikita Koloff

Koloff squashes Norris, pinning him with the Russian Sickle in less than thirty seconds. (D+)

Nikita Koloff cuts a promo about Lex Luger, promising that Luger will fall to his might at Spring Stampede. (C+)

WCW World Tag Team Title Match:

Doom(w/Theodore R. Long) vs. the Steiner Brothers©

This is Doom’s last chance to become champions, according to the announcers. After recent problems, Simmons and Reed appear to be on the same page, giving the Steiners an even fight. In fact, despite a comeback, Reed knocks Rick Steiner to the floor and Simmons hits a huge Powerslam on Scott Steiner. Before they cover, the Hardliners storm the ring, attacking both teams for the double disqualification. The Hardliners have a match with the Steiner Brothers at the Pay Per View and they want it to be for the WCW World Tag Team Titles. The Steiner Brothers and Doom have been laid out by Slater and Murdoch. (C+)

Tom Zenk vs. Awesome Kong

Zenk wins with a Missile Dropkick on Kong, after he misses a charge in the corner. Tom Zenk defends the WCW Television Championship against Arn Anderson in a no time limit. (D+)

Shanghai Pierce vs. Terry Funk

Funk beats Pierce, destroying him, to send a message to Vader. DDT pins Pierce. ©

Big Van Vader and Harley Race cut a promo, promising to destroy Funk at the Pay Per View. (B)

El Gigante vs. Buddy Landell

Buddy beats down Gigante but Gigante shoves Landell down and goes into him, beating him down, before hoisting him up by the throat and viciously tossing him to the ground, to score the pin. (E-)

Ric Flair comes out, wearing an expensive suit, talking about Gigante and how he managed to defeat a few people who couldn’t even last five minutes with the Nature Boy. Flair admits that Gigante looks big and impressive, but to be the man, you have to beat the man. At Spring Stampede, Flair is going to prove that Gigante will be the same size as any other man and Gigante calls Flair into the ring. Flair shakes his head, saying he’s going to have to wait for the Pay Per View. (B-)

Gigante turns to speak for the crowd and Flair rushes down to the ring, before delivering a clip to the leg of Gigante. Gigante is staggered and Flair delivers a low blow, before he chops Gigante. Gigante shrugs the attack off and shoves Flair to the mat. Flair hits the mat hard and bounces back up, staggered. The big man hoists Flair up over his head. The crowd is cheering as Gigante has Flair over his head, before he slams him down to the canvas. Gigante pumps his fist into the air as Flair rolls to the outside, clutching his back. (C+)

Steve Williams vs. Big Van Vader(w/Harley Race)

Impressive brawl between these two men. Williams manages to hoist Vader up for a huge belly to back suplex for a nearfall. Vader takes down Williams with a clothesline, before picking him up. Huge Power Bomb. Vader covers Williams and scores the pin. (B-)

Sting and Dusty Rhodes cut a promo, ready for the Horsemen tonight. (B-)

Sting and Dusty Rhodes vs. Barry Windham and Arn Anderson

Sting and Dusty take the heels to the floor at the start. Dusty is then isolated in the ring, as the Horsemen double team him. Dusty’s leg is pounded viciously but he manages to fight forward, making the tag to Sting. Sting enters the ring, house of fire, knocking them around. Dusty tries to enter the ring to help Sting but Sid Vicious comes out, pulling Dusty off the ring apron and throwing him into the post. Sting is two on one against the Horsemen and as he prepares Windham with the Stinger Splash, Anderson catches Sting right in his left knee with a chop block, allowing Windham to deck Sting with the Lariat. Dusty is out on the floor so Windham scores an academic pin on his Spring Stampede opponent. (C+)

Show Rating: B-

There were two dark matches in between the tapings with the Master Blaster beating Ranger Ross and P.N. Newz beating Joey Maggs.

WCW Power Hour

Ric Flair cuts a promo, promising victory against Gigante and Steve Armstrong tonight. (B+)

Lex Luger talks about his match with Nikita Koloff. (B-)

Beautiful Bobby Eaton defeated Terry Gordy with the Alabama Jam. (C-)

Diamond Dallas Page, Scott Hall, and Jimmy Garvin ran out, attacking Eaton but Gordy gets into his face and the Freebirds beat him down, but Doctor Death runs out and makes the save. Eaton, Gordy, and Williams fight off the Freebirds, setting up the six man for the Pay Per View. (D+)

Week Two April 1991 Television Tapings:

WCW Saturday Night:

WCW Junior Heavyweight Title Tournament Quarterfinals:

Jerry Lynn vs. El Ultimo Dragon

Both men had a match that sadly did not meet up to the standards. Dragon won with an Asai Moonsault, putting Lynn down and advancing into the semifinals of the tournament. (D-)

WCW Junior Heavyweight Title Tournament Quarterfinals:

Terry Taylor vs. Jushin Thunder Liger

Both men have a good little battle in the Quarterfinals, with Taylor trying to keep up with Liger but he is outclassed. A brainbuster brings Taylor for the pin and it will be Liger and Dragon in the semifinals next week with Black Tiger and Brian Pillman squaring off in the other semifinal and the winners of those two matches square off for the WCW Junior Heavyweight Title at Spring Stampede. (C-)

Tom Zenk cuts a promo, talking about how he’s hyped up for a match with Ric Flair tonight, the biggest one in his career and the chance to win the NWA World Championship. He also is ready for Arn Anderson, who he will be defending the Television Champion against with no time limit at Spring Stampede. (C-)

Steve Williams, Terry Gordy, and Beautiful Bobby Eaton vs. Masahiro Chono, Hiroshi Hase, and Kevin Sullivan

The trio of Williams, Gordy, and Eaton will square off against the Freebirds at Spring Stampede. Eaton pins Sullivan after some six man action with the Alabama Jam. (D+)

Arn Anderson cuts a promo, talking about Dusty Rhodes tonight and Tom Zenk at Spring Stampede, saying that he will beat both of them and eliminate the threat they possess to the Horsemen’s dominance, providing of course Zenk manages to survive his match with the Nature Boy tonight. (B-)

Tom Brandi vs. Michael Wallstreet(w/Alexandra York)

Fresh off of a recent loss to Sting, Wallstreet gets back on track with the Wallstreet Crash on Brandi, pinning him in the center of the ring. (D-)

Johnny B. Badd vs. Scott Hall(w/Jimmy Garvin and Diamond Dallas Page)

Badd gave Hall a respectable fight, looking like his undefeated streak was in danger. Page distracts the referee as Garvin enters the ring. Badd decks Garvin before Hall jumps him from behind, setting him up for the Crucifix Power Bomb to score the pin as the Freebirds prepare for their six man at Spring Stampede. (C-)

Terry Funk cuts a promo, talking about Big Van Vader and his match with the big man at Spring Stampede. Vader is back but Funk says he’s always up for a fight and the bigger they come, the harder than fall. (B, good stuff as always from the Funker)

”Heavy Metal” Van Hammer vs. Barry Windham

Windham faces off against Sting at Spring Stampede but Hammer gives him a beating. This was the best match in Hammer’s career but his undefeated streak comes to the end, when The Honky Tonk Man comes out and trips him, allowing Windham to deck him with a lariat for the pin. (C-)

Hammer gets up and demands a match with the Honky Tonk Man but Honky refuses to accept, saying that Hammer is not at his level. However, if Hammer can defeat an opponent of Honky’s choosing, he might give him the match. Out comes southern wrestling legend, Jimmy Golden, who attacks Hammer in the ring, beating him down, drawing a few boos from the crowd. (D-)

Doom(w/Theodore R. Long) vs. the Hardliners

Doom was on fire, knocking around the Hardliners, for costing them the tag team titles last week. Unfortunately, Murdoch and Slater used their ring savvy to cut them down and Murdoch pinned Reed with the Gourdbuster. The Hardliners will square off against the Steiner Brothers for the WCW World Tag Team Titles at Spring Stampede. (C-)

Dusty Rhodes cuts a promo, saying he’s ready for his match with Arn Anderson and his match with Sid Vicious at Spring Stampede as well. (C+)

Dusty Rhodes vs. Arn Anderson

Anderson spends a great deal of the match working over the ankle of Dusty but Dusty fights back. Dusty continues to beat down Anderson, setting him up for the Bionic Elbow but Sid rushes out, attacking Rhodes for the disqualification. Rhodes fights back and brawls to the back with Sid, as their match at Spring Stampede is hyped up. (B-)

NWA World Championship Match:

Tom Zenk vs. Ric Flair©

Zenk’s Television Championship is not on the line and Flair works over the leg, drawing massive heat, but Zenk fights back, knocking Flair around, a flair flip and a clothesline before Zenk dives him on with a plancha. Flair is thrown back into the ring and Missile Dropkick connects. Zenk covers for a two and nine tenths count. Sunset flip gets a nearfall. Backslide gets a nearfall and Fisherman Suplex is in the ropes! Zenk goes back up top but Flair shoves the referee in the way of a Missile Dropkick. Zenk knocks Flair down and puts the Figure-Four on him to a big pop! The crowd cheers but boos when Arn Anderson is climbing to the top rope. He drills Zenk with a kneedrop right to the face, breaking the hold. Zenk is down and Anderson delivers a DDT on Zenk, before rolling to the floor. Ric Flair is up and applies the Figure-Four Leglock on an unconscious Zenk. The referee staggers to his feet, while checking Zenk and calling for the bell, awarding the match to Ric Flair. We may never know if Zenk would have pinned Flair with that second missile dropkick or not, but Flair is the NWA Champion still. Zenk will put his Television Title on the line against Arn Anderson in a no time limit match and Ric Flair faces off against El Gigante, all at Spring Stampede. (B)

Week Three Television Tapings:

WCW Saturday Night

Barry Windham and Ric Flair arrive in the arena in style, saying tonight they are going to bring the WCW World Tag Team Title Belts to the Four Horsemen, just like Double A is going to bring them the Television Championship at Spring Stampede. Flair says he will be Gigante and Windham will finish off the Stinger. (B)

Bob Backlund vs. The Equalizer

Backlund wins with an Atomic Drop into a waistlock roll up. (D+)

Mike Bucci and Robbie V vs. the Hardliners

The Hardliners have a match with the Steiner Brothers at Spring Stampede but whether or not it will be for the WCW World Tag Team Titles depends on the result of tonight’s main event title defense against the Horsemen. The Juniors get a bit of high flying offense but are swatted out of the air like bugs by the vicious and quite frankly surly Hardliners, who beat them down, keep beating them down and Murdoch pins Bucci with the Gourdbuster. (D-)

Sting will face Nikita Koloff in one of our feature bouts and Sting talks about that match, saying that Koloff is nothing but a roadblock on his way to gaining his revenge on Barry Windham for costing him the NWA Championship. That match, Sting versus Windham, will take place at Spring Stampede. (B)

Lex Luger vs. Awesome Kong

This match is built around whether or not Luger could put the nearly four hundred pound Kong in the Torture Rack and yes he can. Kong submits as Luger shows great strength. Luger proves he could put that Torture Rack on anyone and Nikita Koloff may have a headache on his hands at Spring Stampede when those two fight for the United States Title, if Luger gets the Torture Rack on him. (C-)

Joey Maggs vs. Sid Vicious

The crowd goes crazy for Sid as he comes out and I hope Maggs wrote his will before tonight because he got massacred. Choke slam. Power Bomb. Second power bomb. Sid drops a very Dusty Rhodes like elbow before he delivers a third Power Bomb and pins the corpse. ©

Sid continues to beat down on Maggs but Dusty Rhodes rushes out, triggering a brawl between these two men who will square off at Spring Stampede. They brawl all over Center Stage, with security coming out to separate these two men. B

Terry Funk vs. Dan Spivey

Funk gears up with his match with Big Van Vader in a big way against the double tough Dan Spivey. Spivey works over Funk but Funk comes back, delivering some vicious punches and he nails a vicious Piledriver on Spivey to score the pin. Funk is ready for Vader but we all wonder if he can deliver that Piledriver on Vader with such ease. (C+)

WCW Junior Heavyweight Title Semifinal Match:

Brian Pillman vs. Black Tiger

Both of these men have a fun match, leading into Sunday in the finals and the crowd is starting to warm up to the Juniorheavyweight Style, if a bit slowly. Give it time, as Black Tiger Bomb is reversed into a Frankensteiner into a double leg cradle from Pillman to score the pin. Pillman is one half of the Juniorheavyweight Title Finals at Spring Stampede. (C-)

WCW Junior Heavyweight Title Tournament Semifinal Match:

El Ultimo Dragon vs. Jushin Thunder Liger

The crowd is cheering as Liger and Dragon put on a clinic for us in the ten minutes they are given. Asai Moonsault is missed and that sets up Dragon for the kill. A vicious fisherman buster puts him down for the three count. It will be Jushin Thunder Liger and Brian Pillman for the WCW Junior Heavyweight Championship at Spring Stampede. ©

A music video featuring El Gigante beating people, setting up his NWA World Championship Match with Ric Flair. (D+)

Nikita Koloff is backstage, promising to crush Sting tonight and Lex Luger for the United States Championship at Spring Stampede. (B+)

Sting vs. Nikita Koloff

Sting outmaneuvers the Russian Nightmare on several occasions and overpowers him on a couple but Koloff beats him down, giving Sting a savage beating, that chips off most of his face paint. Russian Sickle is narrowly avoided and Sting delivers three dropkicks, knocking the Monster off of his feet. Jumping DDT gets a two count and Sting goes to the top rope. Flying clothesline only serves to knock Koloff in the corner for the Stinger Splash. It takes three of them before Koloff properly falls to the canvas. Scorpion Deathlock but Koloff kicks off Sting, sending him flying through the ropes. This allows Barry Windham to run out and ram Sting into the ringpost. Windham leaves as the count of the referee reaches nine before Sting stumbles into the ring, right into the Russian Sickle which scores the pin. Koloff has beaten Sting, thanks in part in Barry Windham. (B-)

WCW World Tag Team Title Match:

Barry Windham and Ric Flair vs. the Steiner Brothers©

According to my road agents, Flair and Windham have great chemistry which is something of interest. I make a mental note to team them up more often. A pretty good tag team match, with Rick Steiner trapped in Horsemen territory and beaten down. Scott Steiner makes the hot tag and unloads on him but Windham pulls down the top rope, sending Scott Steiner to the floor to beat down on him. Flair has Scott Steiner set up for the Figure-Four Leglock but Scott Steiner kicks him off right into the arms of Rick Steiner who delivers a German Suplex release. The crowd is cheering as Sting is outside, getting into it with Windham, as the Steiner Brothers have Flair set up for the Steiner Bulldog, drilling him down. Scott Steiner covers Ric Flair to score the pin! (B)
