EWB Double-Shot Weekend!

EWB's Double Shot Weekend Preview:

EWB XIII Preview:

Live from The Underground, Montreal

205 lbs.--Adam Wolf v. Murilo Escobar

Both of these fighters are making their second appearance in the EWB cage. They both were first-round submission winners over Harry Hart in their debuts. And that seems to be where the similarities end. Escobar's superior Muay Thai makes him a threat from distance. Wolf will have the advantage if Escobar chooses to trade fists, and also is much more comfortable taking the fight to the ground. It remains to be seen if the fanatical Wolf has overtrained for this fight, and if it goes long, Escobar may be able to assert some control.

205 lbs.--Austin Gabriel v. Danny Lewis

Lewis was denied a light-heavyweight title match when Jackk Griffith decided he would rather leave EWB as champion than stay and fight. As a result, these two LH matches are seen as a tournament of sorts, with the winner of this one likely to face the Wolf/Escobar winner for the title at EWB XVI. This one is extremely tough to call, with Lewis having a slight advantage through his Muay Thai skills. In terms of the ground game, both appear quite equal. Lewis is 3-0 with EWB, having two first-round submissions and one decision to his credit. Gabriel is 2-1, likewise winning two by submission, but losing a unanimous decision to Evan Kennedy at EWB VIII.

170 lbs.--Jermaine Howard v. Marcus Ervin

This is Howard's second fight at 170 after starting with EWB as a lightweight. It will also be the second match in a row that he's faced a fellow client of EWB owner Richard Wilbon, after winning a unanimous decision over Frankie Washington at EWB X. Ervin has yet to taste victory in an EWB cage, with one decision loss, the only draw in EWB's history so far, and a tapout loss to Matt Machado at EWB XI. Howard will have the advantage if the fight goes to the mat. Ervin's competent Muay Thai skills may lead to him catching Howard coming in, however.

265 lbs.--Sean Damon v. Tully Ray Sanders for the EWB Heavyweight Championship

The challenger comes in with two flash knockouts to his credit in the EWB cage. Damon, on the other hand, won two fights by submission en route to his title match at EWB X, where he was able to knock out Tyrone Jackson with a head kick in only 31 seconds. Both fighters have the capability to finish a fight at any time from anywhere. Sanders will look to throw fists, while Damon's standup is more kicking-oriented. Sanders is somewhat comfortable on the ground, but Damon has already proven himself capable of the submission win. He's won bouts with an armbar, rear naked choke, and triangle, giving Sanders a lot to look out for in this title match.

EWB XIV Preview:

Live from The Underground, Montreal

205 lbs.--Harry Hart v. Mike Train

Hart has struggled to a pair of first-round submission losses during his time with EWB, and is said to be considering retirement if he can't pick up a win here. Train is likewise winless, tapping out twice, although both of his did last into Round 3. The odds here do favor Train, as he's the superior jiu-jitsu fighter. Hart's greatest hope is to throw bombs and look for a knockout, which is how he's won both of his pro victories in the QFC. This one could be quite exciting, as both men are known to try to finish their fights, one way or another.

170 lbs.--Baxter Basset v. Emilie Lamont

Basset has never appeared in an EWB cage, with his only pro fight being a tapout loss in the QFC. Lamont has split in his two EWB fights, making Nathan Fitzgerald tap to a kimura at EWB VI and losing to a Michael Hopp armbar at EWB XI. If the fight stays standing, Basset has a pronounced advantage, as Lamont devotes very little training time to boxing or to Muay Thai. Lamont's game plan is likely to be executed from the ground. He is a BJJ blue belt and a solid wrestler, and if he can get Basset on the mat, he could end this one quickly.

155 lbs.--Kazuo Haruki v. Cody Valentine

With EWB facing a serious loss of lightweight talent which includes the apparently-departing Valentine, Haruki could use this fight to springboard himself into the title picture overnight. It would be a great victory for a fighter who has suffered both a lop-sided first-round tapout defeat and a hard-fought three-round decision loss. Valentine's one appearance in EWB was a majority decision win over Yoshimitsu Tajiri back at EWB III. Valentine's strong wrestling ability may be what makes the difference in this one, but Haruki could catch him coming in if he gets too focused on shooting for the takedown.

205 lbs.--Dan Blackstone v. Thrilhouse Van Houtten

Blackstone is a tremendous Muay Thai fighter, but doesn't bring a lot else to the table. Van Houtten is a jack of all trades, master of none, but he does possess more offensive versatility than his opponent. Neither man has won a fight with EWB, and all of their losses have been by submission. If no one can score a flash knockout, this fight could be quite ugly to watch.

205 lbs.--Vade Steamboat v. Luke Anderson

These two are fighting for a spot at the head of the light-heavyweight line of contenders. Steamboat is 2-1 with EWB, with his loss coming at the inaugural show back in May. Since then, he has two strong submission wins. Anderson debuted at Battleground Blitz 2, suffering a second-round submission loss, but he rebounded by outlasting Murilo Pele at EWB XI. This is another close one to call, as these two could be content to stand and throw haymakers at each other, or they could try to take it to the ground. Steamboat's purple-belt BJJ could make the difference if they do find themselves on the mat.

185 lbs.--Dave Zero v. Greg Anderson for the EWB Middleweight Championship

Both fighters have been dominant in the EWB cage, neither having tasted defeat as of yet. Zero has won by knockout, submission, and decision en route to the title, while Anderson has administered a pair of highly entertaining first-round TKO's. Despite that, however, Anderson's wrestling skill is considered his strength, while Zero is acclaimed as the better striker. Anderson will try to find the chink in Zero's armor, while Zero will be trying to prove that the dominance of "The Ticking Time Bomb" has been the function of poor opposition.

EWB XV promises a solid night of action at Hard Knocks TONIGHT!

265 lbs. -- Matt Smith v. Gary Whittaker

The journeyman Whittaker is making his EWB debut, still looking for his first win in his seventh pro fight. Smith sports a 3-1 record, and is looking for a big win to catapult himself into heavyweight title contention. Despite Whittaker's record, he may be able to give Smith all he can take with his superior Muay Thai and BJJ background, not to mention his greater size. It would be considered an upset if Smith lost this fight, but maybe more than it should be.

185 lbs. -- Rolando Silva v. William Peers

Peers is another journeyman fighter making his EWB debut. He sports a dismal 1-9 record. Silva is coming off his first victory in three fights, submitting Trigger Franklin at EWB XI. Peers will have to avoid Silva's submission game, and if he can land some big bombs in the meantime, this is another fight that would be considered a possibly-undeserved upset.

155 lbs. -- Derrek Scott v. Jordan Purcell

Two more EWB debutants, Purcell is actually appearing in his first fight anywhere. Scott comes in riding a four-fight losing streak. Scott's wrestling ability may take this fight to the ground quickly, but he'll need to be careful once there, as Purcell is reported to be stronger in the submission game.

155 lbs. -- Alex Knight v. Kazuo Haruki

Knight's last fight was an unsuccessful title shot, but that was his first defeat after three wins. Haruki is stil winless in EWB, with his last fight coming just last weekend at EWB XIV. This may favor the more-rested Knight, who could be right back into the title hunt with a win. With his superior boxing and Muay Thai games, Knight may be able to finish this fight with an early KO if Haruki starts slowly.

170 lbs. -- Matt Machado v. Frankie Washington

Machado's last fight was his first pro win, a submission victory over Marcus Ervin at EWB XI. Washington made his pro debut at EWB X, losing a decision to Jermaine Howard. Machado's superior boxing and Washington's greater Muay Thai skills may point to this one ending in a TKO, one way or the other.

265 lbs. -- Adam Schmidt v. James Ross

These two fighters come in with opposing momentum, Schmidt suffering a tapout loss at EWB XI and Ross scoring a decision win at XII. If Ross can avoid Schmidt's heavy fists, he may be able to have his way with his opponent. If not, it would seriously damage Ross's currently-bright title hopes.

205 lbs. -- Tyson Steamboat v. Jake Donnelly

Both men last appeared at EWB XII, and both suffered losses that night. Neither one is in prime position to contend for title shots, and so both men desperately need the win to boost their ranking. Steamboat is a BJJ purple belt, and may have to rely on those skills heavily, as Donnelly is considered the better striker and wrestler. Both men's only wins have been via tapout, so look for this one to go to the ground.

265 lbs. -- Roman Akinfeev v. Malachi Thomas

This match will decide the next man who will challenge for Sean Damon's heavyweight title. Neither man has ever taken a fight to the judges, with all three of Akinfeev's fights being TKO wins, and Thomas's 2-1 slate all ending in KO's as well. Both are 1-0 in EWB. AS far as their fighting styles, Akinfeev may be more in control on the ground, while Thomas may look to keep his opponent standing and wear him down with strikes.

155 lbs. -- Jimmy Albright v. Karsten Black for the EWB Lightweight Championship

A classic black-and-white (pardon the pun) struggle between the submission artist and the stone-handed puncher. Albright is 4-0, with all wins by submission. Black is 2-1, coming off a win over Julian Subatoi that was, surprisingly, by submission as well. Albright will be very well-served to keep the fight on the ground and try his best to avoid Black's fists, both standing and ground. Black will have to fight for ground control and not let Albright dominate with his submission game. Could very well be Fight of the Night.

170 lbs. -- Daniel Plude v. Michael Hopp for the EWB Welterweight Championship

Two undefeated fighters collide. Two of Hopp's three wins have come by submission, while Plude has a KO, tapout, and two decisions to his name. Plude may think of trying for the KO in this one, as his boxing game is quite superior to Hopp's. Even if Hopp can avoid the flying fists, he may have a difficult time getting Plude to the ground. This one may end up going to the scorecards.

Ten fights. Two titles on the line. The world needs to be watching as EWB XV takes over Montreal's MMA limelight tonight!

Well my guy got his but handed to him!:D Which sucks because record wise he was my best fighter. And I am back to the win one lose one game. I swear the computer must love to screw with me!:D

And I did not name my fighter after Jim Ross, that was the first name that came to me when I was making him.

As of last night I am now the manager of a champion, as Khru Kang [8496] defeated Rock Hard for the New Era Fighting Championship Heavyweight title. Khru has been the fighter I've singled out as my top guy for a while now so I'm glad to ses him reach 5-0 and pick up the title he so richly deserves. And the 2500 fight/2500 win contract he has is kinda nice too. :D

Now I just need to get Derek Blackley [8371] over in London to win the tournament he's in to pick up a second title belt and be the manager of championS, which would be rather nice. Especially since the money those two make can be filtered out to the young Kai Bichard, a prospect I'm training up who is already edging closer to becoming a black belt in BJJ at the age of 18. He's gonna be fearsome with a few more months of training.

I'm also curious to see how the rest of you guys are doing. I could go looking through all of your profiles, but that somehow doesn't seem as fun as getting you all to share your stories. Especially since for every success I have I get a complete flop too. Jurgen Lythjohan, who was 4-0, will likely be released soon as his learning attribute appears to have rolled really, really low. So he isn't bad... but he sure isn't good enough compared to my fast learning stars.

Well here is a breakdown of my four fighters:

Barry "The Storm of the Century" Carlson who fights at 170 is based out of Montreal. He is 19 years old and is currently fighting for Ultimate Extreme Cage-Fighting. He started his career out great picking up two wins right out of the gate. Since then he has lost three in a row. His overall skills are not that great and he just does not seem to be learning.

"Da Hitman" James Ross fights at Heavyweight for Extreme Warfare Battleground. He is also based out of Montreal, and was 2-0 until he got his ass kicked in his last fight. So he is now 2-1 and I am not sure if he will improve stat wise as it seems to be a slow process for him. Oh and he is 19 years old as well.

Willie "Knuckles" Nuxhall is based out of Los Angeles and fights for World Championship Cagefighting L.A. Assassins. He is 18 years old and has and is 3-3. He is another guy who seems to progressing at a very slow rate. His Conditioning never seems to improve no matter how much Cardio I give him. He fights at Lightweight. And the dude is always depressed, no matter if he wins or gets new ring gear nothing makes this guy happy.

"Hell Dog" Gary Palmer is a 20 year old fighter based out of Montreal. He also fights for Extreme Warfare Battleground. His record is 1-1 and is fighting at Light Heavyweight. Despite his record he is probably my best fighter as he seems to have learned the quickest and has the best stats out of all my fighters.

My Super Heavyweight is 6-0, the FFB champion, and the #2 Super Heavyweight in Rio. He's won all six fights by armbar. :)

Most of my other fighters are long term prospects, although Racka Lamb is 5-1, and was at one point in the top ten P4P in Rio. I also have Pizzazz Longez, who I got as a free agent. He's 3-0, and is moving from one dimensional boxer to well rounded fighter.

Something tells me we had some multiple accounters get whacked. We now have a pair of #1 contenders listed as free agents.

Anyone wants to hire a 4-1 fighter, look for #9173, Luke Anderson.

Also: #9279, Roman Akinfeev (4-0, current #1 heavyweight contender) and #9500, Malachi Thomas.

And derek, my manager name is Jebediah Starr.

Read this on the mmatycoon forums...

So , i picked up one of those multi FA's , only went after one of them and ended up winning the FA .

I seen i had one fight left on the contract so i sent a message to the org owner asking if he would release the guy so i could move him since i have plans of training him elsewere , since montreal good gyms are all stacked.

this is the message i got when i got home tonight

" Akinfeev is our brand-new heavyweight champion. Several of our managers were discussing a way to decide who would pick him up, and instead, you poached him.

Roman's going to wait until his inactivity clause expires in 120 days, or he's going to re-sign a new contract and remain with EWB. Those are the options. Pick one, or release him. "

I see what he means with him being a champion , but i only did same as everyone else and tryed to hire a FA , i didnt POACH anyone?

sorta ****ty but some crappy **** going on with this org and these FA's of his since my dude has a 120 day activity timer? no other fighter of mine has ever been offered over 35 unless i said i was training him for a while still.

Crappy situation , but now he wont even give me the fight unless i resign with his organization , the guys 5-0 making 200/200/200

Watch out for EWB in montreal ..

How has this situation worked out for you guys.

To be fair on the guy who posted that, the contract the fighter has is tiny compared to what he could be making and he's being forced into competing in an organisation he doesn't want to. EWB is a group where we work together from the EWB and GDS forums in order to have fun... and this guy doesn't want to be part of that. If I were in his position, I wouldn't be happy about it either... though I wouldn't be quite so rude about it.

Worst comes to worse, I'd apologise to him via a message and explain to him what the EWB organisation is about. Let him know that you won't release him but you will let his contract expire. He can't possibly have known about us trying to hold onto him and it's unfair to punish him. Chances are I even had a bid in for him too, and I wouldn't have taken a contract like that. I've got a 5-0 champion myself and he's making 5000/2500/2500... which will probably rise after he hopefully wins his next fight, and i'm using my 10% cut from that to help fund my rookies.

So yeah... it looks to me that EWB should take the hit on this one. Give him the last fight on his contract and let him leave. Hopefully you can get him to drop the belt before he leaves. :)

I agree. He didn't "poach" anyone. The guy hit free agency in a pool of literally thousands of free agents and he got picked up. That's how it works. To hold him hostage is really out of place. Give him his last fight and let him go.

The contracts with EWB are pretty bad compared to other organizations, so non-GDSers who don't want to be part of the community shouldn't be held hostage. Also, it's not his fault that the guy who owned the fighter cheated and got him dumped into FA.

and I wouldn't have taken a contract like that.

As stated on the forums I haven't offered him anything, and those were the old contracts.

Poach wasn't may word, JStarr sent that. However, as mentioned previously "holding him hostage" was more to how he responded to the entire situation, and as I said I'm trying to work a deal for him.

I was just going off that one post that seemed to indicate you were going to basically make him sit out his 120 days in order to get freedom.
