Sean Quartermainne Steps Down!

In a shocking statement from Australian Pro Wrestling owner James J McMinister, is has been announced this afternoon that head booker Sean Quartermainne has given up his position at the helm of APW.

There have been conflicting reports from within the company as to what the reasons behind Quartermainne's decision are. Some have pointed to increasing tension between McMinister and Quartermainne over the latter's secret contacts with free agent The Comedian, whose bad blood with McMinister is no secret on the Australian wrestling scene. Other have stated that Quartermainne was rapidly tiring of dealing with the strong personalities in the APW locker room. In particular, it has been said that others on the roster have accused SQ of giving his longtime friend and business partner "Debonair" David Peterson preferential treatment. Just as common, however, has been the rumor that Quartermainne's position was causing problems with DDP, who is reported to have had some words with SQ over his lack of preferential treatment.

Still, perhaps the simplest explanation over Quartermainne's decision comes from Sean himself. In an interview that was conducted with him shortly after the announcement became public, SQ stated that his desire to step down simply came from his position causing too much added stress, and that he'd rather just relax and focus on his on-screen role.

No word has come through yet from McMinister as to who Quartermainne's replacement will be, though it has been rumored that there is someone that APW has been considering for quite some time. Be sure to check WDU.com for more updates as we get them.

APW Goes on a Hiring Spree!

Fresh off the heels of the announcement of former head booker Sean Quartermainne stepping down, APW has announced the signing of four new workers to coincide with the change in power, which sources are telling us has already taken place!

Of course, the most noteworthy of the signings this week has got to be Al "Fuzzy" Freeman, a gifted young flier who fans of Australian wrestling are no strangers to. While not one of the most polished young wrestlers around, APW management are said to see Freeman as a long-term investment, and worth spending some time developing. There has been some talk of putting the youngster in the tag team ranks to help train him up a bit, but there have been rumors of a possible series of matches with current APW Australian champion Swoop McCarthy. Which one turns out to be true remains to be seen.

The second of the signings is young all-arounder "Whirlwind" Lee Wilkes. While not one of the most high-profile signings possible, Wilkes has a reputation around the Australian wrestling scene as a reliable performer who may not dazzle the crowds, but will always provide a good match. It is unknown whether or not Wilkes will be joining the roster as a babyface or a heel at this point, but rumors are swirling that he will be packaged with a real no-frills gimmick, playing to his strengths (or lack thereof).

The final signings are actually part of a package deal, with Mauler and Smasher joining the APW family in the promotion's tag team division. It is being said that the new booker (whoever he or she may be) is keen on really developing the tag team division, as it will get a chance for more of the younger talent in Australia to develop. Mauler and Smasher are most known for their team "The S&M Connection", however APW has announced that the tandem will instead be using the team name of "The Wrecking Crew". We're hearing that the new booker is not a fan of their usual name, and thinks that by changing their titles and repacking them as outlaw bikers instead of their previous gimmicks, they will have more mainstream appeal.

Besides the signings and somewhat puritan outlook on gimmicks, we're also being told that the new booker is a real old-school wrestling fan. Former booker Sean Quartermainne has stated that the new sheriff is more keen to play into APW's more traditional style and change his booking to suit the company, rather than putting his own stamp on everything like Quartermainne had been doing. With the success of TCW in North America, it seems that traditional wrestling is on a bit of an upswing, and that APW is in a prime position to take advantage of that.

APW Announces Matches for OzFest!

A new year is upon us ladies and gentlemen, and it's a new era for APW. In the first event that will hopefully set the tone for the rest of the year, Australian Pro Wrestling is set to hit Marv's Sports Central in Melbourne for 2008's OzFest!

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/HarrySimonson.jpg vs http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/LannyWilliams.jpg

The big news is of course the main event of the evening, which features huge rivals "Old School" Lanny Williams and APW Commonwealth champion Harry "The Hitman" Simonson going up against each other in a non-title match! Always trying to upstage each other in a rivalry that has been going full tilt since the birth of APW, these two have a huge score to settle as Williams looks to prove himself worthy of being the first contender for Simonson's title in 2008.

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/APW_TagTeam.jpg

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/BlakeBelushi.jpg&http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/RickStantz.jpg vshttp://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/NewZealandPitBull.jpg&http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/BigDaddyHorne.jpgw/http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/NigelDarling.jpg

In another big announcement, "Official Liason From the Australian Sports Commission" Nigel Darling has announced that the Melbourne Blondes must defend their tag team titles against the pairing of New Zealand Pit Bull and Big Daddy Horne. Despite this being the first pairing of the two big men, Darling has used his position of authority once again to his advantage, and put a huge obstacle in the path of the Blondes. What's more unnerving, should the titan team of Pit Bull and Horne win the titles, who in APW is going to be able to stop them?

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/APW_Australian.jpg

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/SwoopMcCarthy.jpg vs http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/DingoDevine.jpg

In the final of the three big matchups, APW Australian champion Swoop McCarthy is set to defend his belt against "The Suplex Master" Dingo Devine. Devine was in top form as 2007 came to a close, and he looks ready to try and start 2008 off on the right foot with a big win over McCarthy. However, McCarthy has said that he has a huge announcement that will make things difficult for Devine. What could McCarthy have up his sleeve?

Be sure to drop by this Saturday for exciting APW action!

FANTASTIC. I am a happy Rathen.

Boo Smithson vs. Whirlwind Lee Wilkes - You wouldn't job Boo out to a newcomer, would you? :(

The Rising Suns vs. The Wrecking Crew - They are AWFUL, but repackaging can remake a career.

APW Australian:Swoop McCarthy © vs. Dingo Devine - Swoop will drop the title here, and move into the main event.

APW Tag Team: The Melbourne Blondes © vs. New Zealand Pit Bull & Big Daddy Horne - Can't work out why this match is on the card - possibly a popularity rub from Pit Bull and Horne?

Harry Simonson vs. Lanny Williams - Harry's the face, so Lanny will take this in dubious circumstances.

APW Presents OzFest 2008!

Live from Marv's Sports Central in Melbourne in front of 291 fans!

Pre-Show

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/StephanieDrucker.jpg

Pre Show Segment 1: Before the show officially starts off, Stephanie Drucker comes out to the ring with a large cannon of some kind and starts firing APW t-shirts into the crowd. To be fair, the audience seemed less interested in the shirts and more interested in how hot Drucker is.

Segment Rating: C

Pre Show Segment 2: As people were finishing grabbing their refreshments and finding their seats, new signing Fuzzy Freeman made his debut against one half of Crime Wave in Switchblade. The two youngsters put on a decent match to get the audience into their seats and ready for the show. Freeman picked up the win with a reverse DDT.

Winner: Fuzzy Freeman (E+)

Main Show

Boo Smithson vs. "Whirlwind" Lee Wilkes

To kick off the main show, we had another APW debut as "Whirlwind" Lee Wilkes took on Boo Smithson in a great opener. Wilkes showcased his great brawling abilities in the early moments by pummeling Smithson up against the ropes and spilling the action to the outside. However, once the match ended back up in the ring Smithson quickly took control and began tying Wilkes up in knots with his technical prowess. Smithson took the win with his crossface chickenwing submission hold.

Winner: Boo Smithson (D)

The Rising Suns vs. The Wrecking Crew

The last of the debuts followed, as The Wrecking Crew made their return to APW as they took on hot young tag team The Rising Suns. The match started off quickly as Stratosphere and Kuroda used their speed to their advantage and had their bigger opponents off balance a number of times. Mauler and Smasher had the experience edge, though, and pressed it to their advantage to cut the ring in half and wear down Kuroda. Eventually, Kuroda managed to tag out finally, but Stratosphere fell prey to a quick double powerbomb that finished things off.

Winners: The Wrecking Crew (E+)

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/SwoopMcCarthy.jpg

APW Australian champion Swoop McCarthy was out next, and grabbed a microphone from a ringside attendant.

"You know, being the premier talent in APW is a tough gig, but it's not one that I take lightly. I know how much pressure is involved with being the absolute greatest natural wrestler in the entire country, but they say that with great power comes great responsibility. And as part of that responsibility, I've decided to take on a protoge - some one that I can take under my wing and their help shape their career."

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/NathanMcKenzie.jpg

Out from the back thunders out big Nathan McKenzie!

"That's why I have officially taken Nathan McKenzie here as my understudy. He will from here on attend my matches at ringside to study my techniques and style, and that begins with my title defense here tonight against Dingo Devine!"

Swoop McCarthy © with Nathan McKenzie vs Dingo Devine

Dingo Devine was understandably unnerved by the presence of Big Mac at ringside, but still had to contend with Swoop, who is no slouch in the ring. Still, Devine was able to use his judo background and knowledge of suplexes to take the early advantage. However, Swoop's true reasons for having Big Mac at ringside became clear as McKenzie began to get himself physically involved in the proceedings, laying Devine out with a big clothesline on the outside at one point. The end was inevitable, as the numbers game proved too much as a McKenzie forearm to the back of the head saw Devine stumble forward into running powerslam.

Winner: Swoop McCarthy (D+)

The Melbourne Blondes w/Stephanie Drucker © vs. New Zealand Pit Bull & Big Daddy Horne w/Nigel Darling

In a blatant misuse of power, "Official Liason From the Australian Sports Commission" Nigel Darling ordered the Melbourne Blondes to defend their titles against the monster pairing of New Zealand Pit Bull and Big Daddy Horne. The monsters had the clear advantage early on by using their superior size to their advantage and simply pummeling the Blondes. Things looked bleak until Big Daddy Horne became slightly distracted by the conerned Stephanie Drucker at ringside. Whether or not he is attracted to skinny blondes or terrified women is up for debate, but the momentary lapse allowed Rick Stantz to turn the tides. The action went back and forth until Darling got on the apron to argue with head official Virgil Mann only to get accidentally bumped off the apron by New Zealand Pit Bull. NZPB turn his attention to yell at Darling, which allowed Blake Belushi to quickly roll up the big man for a quick pinfall!

Winners: The Melbourne Blondes (D-)

Back in the ring, New Zealand Pit Bull is furiously yelling at Nigel Darling, who was still crumpled up on the floor at ringside. Big Daddy Horne started to take exception and pulled NZPB back and starting spouting off at his partner. The two ended up nose to nose shouting at each other before deciding that cooler heads prevail and calming down. That proved to be just a diversion as suddenly New Zealand Pit Bull lays out Horne with a massive clothesline before storming off!

Harry Simonson vs. Lanny Williams

The main event of the evening was up next as APW Commonwealth champion Harry "The Hitman" Simonson took on rival "Old School" Lanny Williams in a non-title affair. The two men locked up and began trading counters and submission attempts before turning things to more of a brawl. Williams pressed the advantage early with his arguably superior ground game, but when the action turned to fisticuffs it was all Simonson. The action spilled to the outside and at one point ended up in the crowd, but soon found its way back into the ring where Williams retook the advantage. "Old School" seemed to have things well in hand before getting perhaps a tad too ****y as he had Simonson on one knee. Williams took some time to showboat before hitting the ropes for a running knee attempt, but Simonson was able to counter with a beautiful roll through into his signature Boston crab! Williams fought the hold and tried to make his way to the ropes, but Simonson was able to drag him back to the center of the ring where Williams had no choice but to give up, giving Simonson the win!

Winner: Harry Simonson (C-)

WDU.com - Someone has to cover this stuff!

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/SwoopMcCarthy.jpg

Swoop McCarthy Re-signs!

In a slow news month, reports have come in that APW has come to terms with the contract renewal of Australian champion Swoop McCarthy! This is good news for every fan of Australian wrestling, as losing Swoop would have definitely been a huge blow to the company. Plus, where else are we going to get to watch him wrestle?

In other news, APW's February event "Big Night Out" is right around the corner, and we fully expect an official announcement as to what the card will be from APW in the next few days. There have been some rumors floating around that there will be another Commonwealth title match, and also that there will be some fallout regarding the New Zealand Pit Bull's shocking turn at last month's OzFest! Nigel Darling has been stewing since the attack on his charge, Big Daddy Horne, and it is been said that the "Official Liaison from the Australian Sports Commission" has something special up his sleeve for NZPB.

Keep checking back for more news updates for Australia's favorite (and only!) wrestling promotion.

OOC: Thanks for kind words guys. Shocking to see how many people are taking an interest in this... this may be the most comments I've gotten in a game, and I've only posted one show!

Preview for APW's Big Night Out 2008!

Last month's OzFest started 2008 off with a bang, and this year's Big Night Out event looks to be just as good! Nathan McKenzie is in singles action, and there's a three way dance to decide the number one contender for the APW Australian title. Last but certainly not least, Harry "The Hitman" Simonson is slated to defend his Commonwealth championship against "Debonair" David Peterson! With no futher ado, let's get to the lineup.

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/NathanMcKenzie.jpg vs http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/JimmyStratosphere.jpg

For starters, "Big Mac" Nathan McKenzie is set for one on one action against one half of the Rising Suns, Jimmy Stratosphere! McKenzie certainly has the size advantage in this one, and Stratosphere won't have partner Motty Kuroda in the corner to tag out to if things get too hairy. Plus, with Swoop McCarthy now taking on Big Mac as his protoge, the massive 19 year old is all the more dangerous. Will Stratosphere be able to pull out the upset of the year?

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/BooSmithson.jpg vs http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/AlyxMacquarie.jpg vs http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/SpiffyStanStandish.jpg w/http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/MaxForbes.jpg

In a big matchup that can seriously boost the future of whoever wins, a triple threat match has been set to decide the number one contender for the APW Australian title currently held by Swoop McCarthy! Boo Smithson, Alyx Macquarie, and "Spiffy" Stan Standish all square off to decide who will be McCarthy's next challenger. Who will emerge victorious, and what role will Triple S's manager Max Forbes have to play in the outcome? Drop by on the 24th to find out!

And in the main event of the evening, APW Commonwealth champion Harry Simonson puts his title on the line against "Debonair" David Peterson! Proving himself to be a fighting champion, Simonson seems to be taking on all comers. However, with the sneaky Sean Quartermainne in Peterson's corner, the odds seem stacked against the champion. What kind of tricks does Quartermainne have up his sleeve, and does Simonson have any hope of leaving Melbourne as the champion?

Be sure to get your tickets early for this one, $10 at the door! We'll see you live on the 24th at Marv's Sports Central in Melbourne!

Predictions Form:

"Whirlwind" Lee Wilkes vs. Trehawke Philips

"Whirlwind" Lee Wilkes vs. Trehawke Philips

In a good opener, veteran Trehawke Philips squared off against APW newcomer "Whirlwind" Lee Wilkes in a straight ahead brawling affair. Nothing pretty in this one, but the action stayed strong as the fist fight spilled to the outside and up the aisle before finally ending up back in the ring, where Philips ended things with a sleeper hold for the submission victory.

Winner: Trehawke Philips (E+)

Backstage, Swoop McCarthy had a microphone, while his young protoge Nathan McKenzie glared ahead from behind him.

"Last month, my boy Big Mac here got to see what a real champion looks like in action. And the two of us have been working hard on getting McKenzie ready for his run at the top. The first stop on the ladder of success begins tonight against Stratosphere, and we're set to show all of you just how much Big Mac has already learned from my training. Stratosphere, you're in for a world of hurt tonight!"

Nathan McKenzie vs. Jimmy Stratosphere

Swoop McCarthy made a rare appearance at the announcing table for this one, assuring announcers Mitch Y. Bryson and Frank Mucciolo that there was no need for him to be at ringside. His boasting seemed correct, as McKenzie simply destroyed Stratosphere in a short matchup. Big Mac picked up the pinfall victory following a brutal spear.

Vance Sturt vs. Dingo Devine

The action kept rolling on as two APW youngsters squared off, with Vance Sturt taking on Dingo Devine in singles competition. Both men are hopeful to one day be a part of the upper echelons of Australian wrestling and put forth trying to prove themselves worthy of that honor in this one. Things started off slowly on the mat, where Devine had the distinct advantage. Still, Sturt showed a surprising ability to squirm his way out of some sticky situations and bring things back to a vertical base where he pressed the fight. A couple of suplexes from Devine later, though, and momentum had swung heavily in the young technician's favor. Still, Sturt is not without his tricks, and wound up with a somewhat surprising victory when he managed to hit Devine between the eyes with a pair of brass knuckles while referee Virgil Mann was trying to break up the pair in the ropes.

Winner: Vance Sturt (D-)

Following the contest, "Official Liason from the Australian Sports Commission" Nigel Darling made his way to the ring accompanied by Big Daddy Horne and grabbed a microphone from a ringside attendant.

"There has been a grave infraction of the Official Australian Wrestling & Boxing Conduct Guidelines. You see, last week my friend Horne here was brutally attacked by his partner New Zealand Pit Bull. Horne was in very real danger of suffering serious injuries at the hands of Pit Bull, and that situation needs to be addressed. What our friend Mr. Pit Bull failed to remember was that due to the provisions set in article 4.16 of the Australian Athletic Competitions charter, a competitor may not willingly place his partner in a situation involving immediate danger.

You see folks, by attacking his partner Mr. Horne here following their match, Mr. Pit Bull is in direct violation of the rules, and as such he forfeits his license to practice said sport. In essence, I am forced here tonight to suspend New Zealand Pit Bull indefinitely. He is to no longer appear at APW shows in a competitive manner, and may not interfere in proceedings without expecting full persecution."

Boo Smithson vs. Alyx Macquarie vs. "Spiffy" Stan Standish w/Max Forbes

The semi main event of the evening was a big one, as it set to decide the number one contender for the APW Australian championship held by Swoop McCarthy. The three men squared off, with Standish having the distinct advantage with Max Forbes in his corner. Still, Boo Smithson held control of the matchup for much of the early moments, keeping both men off guard with his elusive technical mastery. Things turned sour when Macquarie and Standish began to work together, double teaming Smithson to take control.

The turning point came in the match when Macquarie was recovering from near the ropes when Smithson and Standish took each other out with a double clothesline. As the referee checked on both men, Forbes took an ear with Macquarie and pulled out a wad of cash from his pocket while whispering in his ear. Macquarie nodded and stuffed the money into his tights and helped Standish to his feet. He then picked Smithson and the two men dropped him with a double DDT. Macquarie then dragged Smithson towards the turnbuckle, signaling to Standish to drop a knee off the second rope and take the victory. Standish nodded and proceeded to do just that, but as he came off Macquarie caught him in the jaw with a superkick and quickly rolled Standish up for the pinfall!

Winner: Alyx Macquarie (D)

As Forbes and Standish made their way backstage following their loss, Sean Quartermainne took Forbes aside and raised a proposition.

"You know, you might need a little work in your execution, but I like your style. The problem is that you need to know who to trust. You can't expect to gain an ally in someone that is competing for the same prize that you are like Macquarie there. However, when you work with someone on the same level as you, working towards a common goal, then great things can happen.

I think that you and I are a lot alike. And I think that with your wealth and my brains, if we pool our resources, we can achieve great things together. And I think we can start tonight, with a little problem called Harry Simonson..."

"Debonair" David Peterson w/Sean Quartermainne vs. Harry Simonson ©

The main event of the evening was up next, and it was a hot one as Harry "The Hitman" Simonson put his APW Commonwealth title on the line against "Debonair" David Peterson. Simonson was wary of Quartermainne at ringside, and he glanced over at the sneaky manager more than a few times in the early moments, which allowed Peterson to get an early upper hand. As the match drew on Simonson was able to regain control and began to heavily work over Peterson's back and legs, clearly setting him up for an eventual Boston crab. Just as it seemed he was about to apply the hold, Quartermainne jumped onto the apron and distracted head official Virgil Mann, which allowed Peterson to be able to pull a pair of brass knuckles out of his tights and nail a right hand on Simonson. Peterson covered, but shockingly Simonson was able to kick out.

Simonson, cleary out of sorts as blood trickled down his face from the blow, tried in vain to counter the assault of a now grinning Peterson. The debonair one reigned heavy right hands across Simonson's head as he toyed with the champion. As is often the case though, overconfidence proved to be Peterson's undoing. With a dazed Simonson staggering about, Peterson heckled a few fans in the audience before ascending to the second turnbuckle and coming off with a flying axehandle. Simonson countered into a spinning spinebuster and in one swift move, turned it over into a Boston crab! Peterson cried in agony as he tried to fight the hold but ended up submitting after a few seconds, giving Simonson the successful title defense.

Winner: Harry Simonson (C-)

As soon as the bell had sounded, the plans that were laid out earlier between Quartermainne and Forbes became clear as "Spiffy" Stan Standish barreled down to ringside and blindsided Simonson. Standish put some heavy boots to the champion as Peterson regained his senses and joined in. Forbes and Quartermainne laughed and shook hands at ringside as their two charges mauled the champion in the ring, signaling that this could be the start of something quite sinister for Simonson as the show drew to a close.

Backstage Drama in APW!

Reports have broken out that apparently after last night's Big Night Out event, that quite the fight broke out between "Debonair" David Peterson and head referee Virgil Mann. An insider who asked not to be named said that the situation was going on most of the night, but didn't escalate to the point that the two had to be separated until after the show was over.

It seems that Peterson had been taking shots at Mann backstage throughout the evening, trying to get a rise out of the APW's head (and only) official. Well, apparently when Peterson had his match against Simonson in the main event, things got a bit physical between he and Mann in the ring. Peterson shoved Mann a number of times during the contest and even tripped him once during the contest. Being a professional, Mann kept things cool in the ring, but rumor has it that apparently once the two got backstage Mann had to be physically restrained.

Reportedly Mann suffered no repercussions over the incident, but Peterson was said to have received a stern warning from APW about minding his behavior in the future. Peterson seemed to not care about the warning though, and many have said that this incident was just the first of many to come since his friend Sean Quartermainne was replaced as booker.

Not dead! Sorry for the lack of updates (provided people haven't already forgotten about this). Had a bit of personal stuff going on the past week or so, but that seems to be sorted out now. Back to the Outback!

Preview for Fight Night 2008!

APW really has been pulling out all the stops so far this year, and if this lineup is any indication of things to come, then Fight Night should be more of the same! Two title matches and a huge tag team match to top things off, it does indeed seem like madness this March in APW. Let's get to the lineup!

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/APW_TagTeam.jpg

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/BlakeBelushi.jpghttp://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/RickStantz.jpg w/http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/StephanieDrucker.jpg vs. http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/Mauler.jpghttp://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/Smasher.jpg

In what should be quite the clash of styles, the APW Tag Team titles are on the line as the Melbourne Blondes (along with the always lovely Stephanie Drucker in their corner) take on the Wrecking Crew! This was a matchup that everyone knew was coming as soon as the Wrecking Crew were signed two months ago, and now it's here! Will the Blondes be able to fight off the assault of the Crew, or will we have new tag champs after the night is over?

Fresh off being named number one contender for the APW Australian championship last month, Alyx Macquarie has wasted no time in cashing in his shot against Swoop McCarthy! While momentum clearly seems to be on the side of Macquarie, McCarthy has the champion's advantage, the experience edge, and the huge Nathan McKenzie in his corner! Does Macquarie even stand a chance?

http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/HarrySimonson.jpghttp://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/_BlankBackground.jpg vs http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/DebonairDavidPeterson.jpghttp://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/SpiffyStanStandish.jpg w/http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/SeanQuartermainne.jpghttp://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o109/hrdcoresidebrns/APW/MaxForbes.jpg

And in the main event of the evening, a flat out blood feud is on the verge of erupting as APW Commonwealth champion Harry "The Hitman" Simonson goes up against "Debonair" David Peterson and "Spiffy" Stan Standish! There's just one problem - Simonson doesn't have a partner! Nigel Darling has ruled that Australian rules disallow handicap matches, and that Simonson must find a partner before the bell sounds or be stripped of his title! Who will Simonson find to help him in his quest for revenge? And if he finds someone, will they be able to beat the 4-to-2 numbers and come out on top?

Drop by Marv's Sports Central on Sunday, March 21st to find out! Tickets are $10, and available at the door or at any "Dingo Babies Sandwiches" location!

The Melbourne Blondes (with Stephanie Drucker) © vs. The Wrecking Crew

As good an opener as any, action kicked off tonight with the APW Tag Team titles on the line as the Melbourne Blondes put the belts on the line against the Wrecking Crew! This one was a standard science vs. force showdown as the Blondes used their superior wrestling know-how to try and fight off the wild attacks of the Crew. After a few minutes, it became evident that technique would win out, and Belushi got the win following an axe kick on Mauler.

Winner: The Melbourne Blondes (D)

Boo Smithson vs. Vance Sturt

Sometimes there just isn't a backstory folks, and this was one of those occasions. Smithson was coming off a narrow defeat in a number one contender's match for the APW Australian championship last month, and Sturt hasn't exactly been on a roll lately, so they squared off to try and get rolling. Smithson, always the technician, took advantage early and countered most of what Sturt through at him. Eventually, the brawling of Sturt wore Smithson down and it looked to be that things were just about wrapping up. However, Smithson was able to counter a suplex attempt into his patented crossface chickenwing, and while Sturt fought for the ropes, he eventually succumbed to the hold.

Winner: Boo Smithson (D+)

Following the match, as Smithson was making his way back to the lockerroom, Sturt got on the house mic and had some words for the scraggy technician.

"You got lucky tonight, Smithson, but it won't happen twice. I think I've got your number, friend, and I dare you to face me again next month!"

Smithson looked confused, but seemed game, and it looks to be that these two will square off again next month!

Backstage, Swoop McCarthy had a few words for Alyx Macquarie before their match for the APW Australian title.

"Macquarie, I've seen your type come and go in the this place. You've got the looks, the charm, and you've even got some skill. But that doesn't make a champion, Macquarie. I'll give your due - you definitely outsmarted Forbes last month and squirmed your way into a title shot. But your rise ends here tonight, Macquarie. You're not getting past me.

In fact, I'm so confident that I'm going to beat you tonight that I've ordered McKenzie to stay backstage and study my match from the monitors. So it's fair fight now - just you and me. And you know what? I'm still coming out on top. I guarantee it!"

Well, McCarthy may have left McKenzie in the back, but this was still hardly a fair fight as Swoop threw every dirty trick against Macquarie that he could think of to fight off the youngster. Still, Macquarie stayed on the attack, and had the champion in a rough spot on more than a few occasions. It seemed no matter what he did, Swoop just could not stay ahead of the fiery Macquarie. Once Swoop got caught with a superkick to the jaw, it looked like the match was over. However, "Spiffy" Stan Standish dashed down to ringside and jumped on the apron, distracting referee Virgil Mann from Macquarie's pinfall attempt. Eventually Macquarie got up to question what was up, and charged at Standish with a forearm that knocked him clear off the apron. Unfortunately for Macquarie it gave McCarthy enough time to recover, and he caught Macquarie by surprise with a school boy for the flash victory.

Backstage, Nigel Darling had confronted Harry Simonson before the main event.

"Well, Simonson, it looks like you don't have a friend in the world right now. I told you weeks ago that if you wanted this match against Peterson and Standish, that you needed to find a partner or forfeit the Commonwealth title with your breach of the Official Australian Athletic Commission guidelines. It's two minutes to bell time, and you don't have a partner. So, with my authority, it gives me great pleasure to cancel this contest and strip you of..."

Just as Darling reached his hand out for the APW Commonwealth title on Simonson's shoulder, a hand shot out and stopped him, belonging to none other that Simonson's chief rival Lanny Williams!

"Listen here, Darling - I may not be the closest friend that Simonson has in this place, but I've been his opponent a long time. In fact, he's been my greatest opponent since I've come to this company. And as much as I'd love to see that belt come off his waist, it'll be because I won it off him, not because some snake is going to bring up some obscure rules to weasel it off him. I've got too much respect for him to let that happen. So tonight, I'LL BE HIS PARTNER!"

With that, Simonson and Williams storm off, leaving a visibly shaken Darling holding his wrist in pain.

Harry Simonson & Lanny Williams vs. "Debonair" David Peterson & "Spiffy" Stan Standish (with Sean Quartermainne and Max Forbes)

In the surprise of all surprises, Williams chose to team up with Simonson against Peterson and Standish, and boy was the look on their faces worth a thousand words. Both men counseled with their respective managers as they tried to quickly devise a new strategy, but the story was told on their faces that they were not ready for this. The team of Williams and Simonson tore through them like a freight train, as two of arguably the best technical wrestlers in APW schooled their opponents. Still, one cannot discount the power of numbers, and eventually Quartermainne and Forbes were able to distract Williams long enough to gain the advantage. Both men worked over Williams, cutting him off from Simonson, but eventually Williams was able to struggle free and tag in the Commonwealth champion! Simonson came with thunder as he cleared the ring of Peterson and Standish. The crowd erupted as their champion roared in accomplishment...

... until they were silenced when Williams nearly took his head off with a flying knee.

A groggy Simonson struggled to his feet as Williams grinned and nailed him with a beautiful dropkick that nearly knocked him out. Williams then stood on the apron as Peterson and Standish rolled back into the ring and laid the champion out with a spiked piledriver for the pinfall.

Winners: Peterson & Standish (D+)

The trio continued their assault in the ring for several minutes, beating down the champion as their managers cheered them on. Suddenly, a roar erupted from the audience as the returning New Zealand Pit Bull stormed the ring and chased the attackers off. As they regrouped on the aisleway, the group of cowards stared back in the ring at the very heated monster of a man that stard back at them, vowing to make them pay!
