USPW: An Industy of Cool

Recommended Posts

These are people who want you to write sanctimonious stories...about the genius of rock stars. And they will ruin rock 'n' roll, and strangle...everything we love about it, right? And then it just becomes an industry of cool. I'm telling you, you're coming along at a very dangerous time for rock 'n' roll.

Lester Bangs - "Almost Famous"

I was thinking about that line from the movie Almost Famous as I was unpacking my things in my new office. Actually, I don't think it can even be considered an office. More along the lines of a storage closet with a desk and chair. No big deal though as it's really just for show. Truth be told most of the booking gets done in the car or at an arena somewhere.

Anyway, back to my point. That phrase, "An industry of cool", has stuck with me ever since I saw the 2000 film by Cameron Crowe. Some very frightening parrells can be drawn between the wrestling and rock n roll industries. Gone are the days of guys driving halfway across the country to a little arena out in the middle of bum f*** egypt; to an event they were not even booked on just so they can lace up their boots in hopes of subbing for an injury or a no show.

Now-a-days it's all about fast cars, fast women, being ****y, and looking well...cool. The fans can't even tell the difference between a heel and a face anymore... I know I sure as hell can't. And the sooner they are handed "W's" the better. Everyone wants to be the Tommy Cornell's, arriving to the arena, stepping out of a limosine with a woman under each arm. Nobody wants to be the Bob Casey's.

So in all seriousness one must pose the question, have I actually entered the business during a really dangerous time? Is professional wrestling as we once knew it much like rock n roll...dead?

Chris Caulfield vs Bruce the Giant (Cage Match) - Push the Giant!

Andre Jones vs Captain USA (Television Title) - Champ retains.

Alicia Strong vs Cherry Bomb vs Belle Bryden - Belle is probably your best bet for the women's belt long term, as Alicia has creative control IIRC and can be a real pain.

Jumbo Jackson vs Nicky Champion - Can't believe Nicky's improvement since 08...

The People's Team vs The Titan's (Tag Team Championship) - They ARE the champs, yeah?

The show opens with Danny Jillefski and Micky Starr hyping the main event between Bruce the Giant and “The Hardcore American” Chris Caulfield in a Steel Cage Match! The winner to go on to face Enygma for the World Championship at Stars, Stripes, and Slams! B

The Women’s Champion Raven Robinson comes out in street clothes and heads down to ringside where she joins Danny Jillefski and Micky Starr as a guest commentator for our opening match. D-

Number One Contenders Match:

Cherry Bomb vs Belle Bryden vs Alicia Strong

For most of the match the two heels Bomb and Bryden worked as a team as they tried to eliminate Alicia Strong from the contest. Strong came out looking good as she was able to handle the 2 on 1 situation very well…for the most part. The finish came as Bryden hits Strong with the Blonde Ambition. That allowed Cherry Bomb to get the win at 12:22 with a roll up and a handle full of tights on Bryden. C

Notes: Raven Robinson did a good job selling all the ladies as very formidable opponents during her commentary.

Chris Caulfield is standing by backstage. He says he’s been in a lot of big matches in his career but none as big as the one that he well take part in later tonight. He says that he has done a lot of dumb things in his career; falling on 1000’s of thumbtacks, taking steel chairs to the skull, and barbed wire baseball bats to his entire body. But none of that is as dumb as what he’s going to do tonight when he steps in the ring with a 7’4 600 pound giant inside a steel cage.

“I’d be lieing if I said I’m not having second thoughts….that there isn’t a certain level of fear in me.”

“And I’d be lieing if I said that’s NOT EXACTLY THE WAY I WANT TO FEEL!”

“You see, I need that fear! I use that fear! I thrive on that fear! I loss that fear I loss my edge!”

(pauses)

“Bruce…tonight…you’re stepping inside a cage with a rabid animal. And like any other rabid animal with it’s back against the corner, there’s no telling what I might do.” B

Television Title Match:

Andre Jones© vs Captain USA

Andre Jones defeats USA at 5:52 with a Blast from the Past. Make his first Television title defense. D-

<a href="http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y146/JoeCellPhone/?action=view&current=PeterValentine.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y146/JoeCellPhone/PeterValentine.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Andre Jones is still in the ring celebrating his title defense when the National Champion Peter Valentine comes out holding a microphone. He stops at the top of the entrance ramp.

“Peter Valentine just wanted to come out here and congratulate you on your successful title defense. You should feel really good right about now.”

“But don’t get to high on yourself just yet. You see, all these idiots didn’t come here to watch you give and 80 year old man a rub down.”

“No, they came to see Pete “the Treat” Valentine put my National title on the line….but that’s not going to happen.”

“But the reason Peter Valentine came out here, Andre, is to issue you a challenge. Let’s call it an anything you can do I can do better challenge. Peter Valentine will prove that he’s a better champion than you could ever be. Everyone you beat Pete the Treat will not only beat, but beat them faster than you could. So, next week on American Wrestling Petey Val will defend his National Championship against Captain USA and defeat him faster than your time of 5:52.” D+

Backstage Giant Redwood stands at the door to Commissioner Doom’s office. He tries to go inside but it’s locked. Redwood gives it a good shove and the door comes right off the henges. Doom, wearing a full body leotard and doing yoga is shocked to see Redwood bust into his office.

“Don’t you know how to knock?”

Redwood doesn’t speak. He just stands there holding a piece of paper with a look on his face that would terrify James Carville.

“What is so important that you had to interupt my personal reflection period, throwing my chakras off balance?”

Redwood hands Doom the sheet of paper. Doom scans over it with a pleased look upon his face.

“I feel very positive energy coming from this. We can definitely make this happen… next week infact.” C

Nicky Champion vs Jumbo Jackson

Solid match that went back and forth. The key was to keep both competitors looking extremely dangerous. The finish of the match came at 10:53 after Anger comes out and accidently hits Jumbo Jackson allowing Champion to follow up with a Hawkeye Hammer for the pinfall. C-

Danny Jillefski and Micky Starr announce that they have received word about an altercation backstage and that a cameraman has been sent to figure out what has happened.

The camera rounds the corner to find James Justice being attacked by T-Rex and Tyson Baine. Baine holds Justice while T-Rex delivers repeated punches to the head. Baine releases Justice and he crashes to the floor. T-Rex taunts:

“Come on , Justice! Come on, hero! Pick him up, Tyson!”

Tyson pulls Justice to his feet. T-Rex begins looking for a weapon to use. He finds a steel rod but before he could introduce it to Justice’s skull THE FORCE comes flying out of nowhere, crashing himself into T-Rex. Both men are down, Baine drops Justice then helps Rex to his feet and they flee the scene. C+

Tag Team Championship:

The People’s Team© vs The Titans

The Titans took their frustrations out on the Tag Team Champions for the entire match. At 6:26 The Titans were disqualified when Tyson Baine refused to break a chokehold on Des Davids. Tyson Baine seemed more worried about sending a message than winning the tag straps. D+

<a href="http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y146/JoeCellPhone/?action=view&current=TysonBaine.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y146/JoeCellPhone/TysonBaine.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y146/JoeCellPhone/?action=view&current=Enygma.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y146/JoeCellPhone/Enygma.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

After the match T-Rex was visibly upset with Baine and left the ring. Baine grabbed a microphone from the announcer.

“I WANT ENYGMA!”

(pauses)

“I WANT ENYGMA! SHOW YOUR FACE!”

After a moment the lights in the arena begin to flicker before going completely off. When they return on Tyson is standing in the ring alone. Enygma is eventually spotted standing on top of the entrance set up.

“ENYGMA, YOU COWARD! COME TO THE RING AND FACE ME!”

The lights begin to flicker before going completely off once again. When they return Enygma is standing in the center of the ring. Baine approaches and the lights flicker a third time, going completely out. When they return not only is Enygma still standing in the ring with Baine but also…A SECOND ENYGMA!

Baine doesn’t know how to react. Once again the lights flicker and go out. When they return yet another Enygma stands in the ring with Baine. Again with the lights, when they return the number of Enygma’s standing in the ring total 4! The lights go out again and when they return Tyson Baine stands alone in the ring with a cloud of grey smoke. B-

Backstage in the Sneer Corperation locker room Jumbo Jackson is crawling up Anger’s back about his botched interference earlier causing him to lose to Nicky Champion while the Towers of Power look on. Anger says it’s not his fault.

Jackson:

“It’s not your fault? Well who’s is it then?”

Anger replies:

“It was the Clown’s fault!”

Jackson:“Clown? Clown? What clown?”

Anger:

“The clown right over there.”

Anger points to an empty corner of the room.

“Don’t you see him standing right there?”

Jackson:

I got news for you, wacko! There's no one in the corner!

Jumbo turns to the Towers.

“I hold you two personally responsible for bringing this nut job in.”

Shane Sneer enters the room. He is fuming over what happened. He warns each and every one of them that they are all replaceable. Anyone that doesn’t get the job done he’ll replace them with someone who will. He notices Anger fidgeting as he continues to stare at the corner of the room.

“And what is your malfunction?”

Anger:

“The clown!”

Sneer:

“The clown? Great!”

Sneer leaves the locker room out of frustration leaving Jackson, Towers, Anger, and…the clown...thinking about what he said. C-

Jan 2010 Thursday after American Wrestling:

I didn’t tell anyone this but I spent the first ten minutes of the show puking by dumpster in an alley behind the arena. My nerves wasn’t that shot when I figured my first worker. I love the sheik character but Nadir (Sheik Mustafa) brought absolutely nothing to the table…except a bad attitude. I’m really glad Shane Sneer decided to stay on with me and kind of show me the ropes.

He’s a valueable asset to the company both on and off the camera. It was Strong’s call to pull him out of the commentator’s chair and give him a bigger role with his Sneer Corperation. I just felt like we couldn’t do as much with that group with him hand cuffed to the table. Micky Starr will fill in nicely and Sam has this kid Ditterich waiting in the wings.

I got an email from Sam as I was making phone calls to a few guys I was in contract negotiations with telling me the ratings for last night were in: 0.82 on Sports America. He also said the show was a success(c rating). I think without pay per view and a bigger TV deal then were as good as dead. SWF is smelling blood after Sam stole Enygma, and with the contracts of Bruce and Darryl coming up in the next months there’s no telling what they’ll try to do.

That was the main reason why I had to scrap my first finish of a double cage escape draw between Caulfield and Bruce. My original intentions were to drag it out a bit longer leading up to a Bruce/Enygma match at Independence Day Slam. A few things that stood out in my mind about the card:

  • Given the time the women could quite possibly steal the shows night in and night out.

  • Chris Caulfield’s hype segment did really well, makes me wonder if it was the caliber of opponent or if I can squeeze segments like that from him every night.

  • I love Redwood and the way his segment faired he will continue to get time.

  • I’m going to throughly enjoy the Peter Valentine character.

American Wrestling

Live from Missouri State Armoury

3,376 in Attendance

The show opens at the commentator’s table where Danny Jillefski and Micky Starr welcomes everyone to another edition of American Wrestling.

A video clip is shown recapping the main event from last week, a number one contendars match between Bruce the Giant and Chris Caulfield inside a steel cage. Jillefski and Starr hyped the way in which Bruce the Giant exited the cage, which was a bit unorthodox to say the least.

After laying out the “Hardcore American” Chris Caulfield with a giant chokeslam Bruce was unable to climb up the cage due to the size of his feet. So he decides to give the cage a few shoulder blocks before on side of the cage snaps off the henges. Bruce exits the ring and becomes the number one contendar to the World title. B-

Bob Casey vs Darryl Devine w/Seduction

Bob Casey picked up the victory in his debut at 6:38 with a flash pin during a match the fans crapped all over. F+

Notes: This was a learning experience

Backstage Davis Ditterich was standing by with James Justice and The Force. They hyped their main event tag team match with The Titans tonight.

Justice:

T-Rex! Listen up, chief!Last week you and your bro attacked me from behind. Not cool, dude! Luckily for me I had this crazy, face painted dude watchin’ my back. But tonight you and the devil dude won’t have the element of surprise…

The Force interupts

The Force:

Alicia Strong vs Belle Bryden

Very solid match that saw Alicia Strong pick up the win at 11:52 with the Angel Driver. C-

After the grueling match Belle Bryden bitterly attacks Alicia as she tries to exit the ring. Belle pulls her back inside by her hair and delivers the Blonde Ambition leaving Alicia out cold in the ring. She mounts Strong and begins punching her. The Women’s champion Raven Robinson runs down to the ring, slides in and spears Bryden off of Strong. The two roll around the ring with Robinson getting the upper hand. She repeatedly slams Bryden’s head against the canvas.

The number one contendar Cherry Bomb then gets involved. Going directly for her opponent at Stars, Stripes, and Slams. Robinson holds her own against the double team from Bomb and Bryden. Alicia finally composes herself and joins the fight. Officials are sent down to the ring to get control of the situation. D-

Captain USA comes out for his National title match against Peter Valentine. Valentine comes down to the ring and before it gets under way he grabs a mic.

Valentine:

Everyone sitting at home on the fat rear ends, no need to adjust your televisions sets. It is I! Last week Peter Valentine told Andre Jones that he’s clearly a better champion than Jones could ever even dream to be. Well tonight the Heavenly Heart throb will prove it. And to add extra incentive for this old bag of bones (points to USA) to give his all, if Sexy Pete doesn’t pin him before Jones time of 5:52 then Peter Valentine will forfeit the National title over to him.

National Championship:

Peter Valentine© vs Captain USA

Peter Valentine defeats Captain USA with the Heartbreaker but not before the time of 5:52! Valentine would have beaten the time but Andre Jones put USA’s foot on the bottom rope as the time surpassed 6 minutes. The pinfall takes place at 6:33. D-

After the match Peter Valentine is furious over what happened. He pushes over referree Wilson Carlisle and takes the National champion away from him before he can hand it over to Captain USA. Valentine leaves the ring and sprints up the aisle dissappearing behind the curtain. D+

Backstage in the Sneer Corperation locker room where we see all the members of Sneer Co. standing around Anger. Jackson tells Anger that tonight he has the opportunity to redeem himself after last weeks debacle that saw Anger cost Jumbo his match to Nicky Champion. Sneer chimes in by telling him to keep him mind focused on the match.

Anger seems to be calm and collected with no mention of the clown. Sneer, Jackson, and Towers give Anger one more motivational word before heading out of the locker room leaving Anger alone with his thoughts. D-

Nicky Champion vs Anger

The match was decent with good heat from the crowd. Anger seemed to have it all together as he gave Nicky all he could handle. Toward the end Anger began to lose it as he seemed to be distracted by something at ringside. As Anger was screaming at the thin air to leave him alone Champion hit the Hawkeye Hammer picking up the pinfall at 8:53. D

The rest of the members of Sneer Co. hit the ring and surrounded Champion. The Towers of Power destroy Nicky with the Tower of Terror. Jackson finishes him off with a Jumbo Avalanche leaving Champion decimated in the middle of the ring. D+

The Titans entered the ring awaiting their opponents for tonight’s main event. The lights begin to flicker before going out. When they return Enygma stands at the front of the entrance ramp. Tyson Baine jumps out of the ring and runs up the ramp. Halfway there the lights go out again. When they return on Enygma is no longer there. Baine continues his chase as he disappears backstage leaving T-Rex by himself to face James Justice and The Force in the main event.B

James Justice/The Force vs T-Rex

T-Rex was left by himself to take on two of the top workers USPW has to offer. Rex was made to look really tough as he was able to hold his own during the 9:55 minute bout. At one point Rex dominated the former World champion James Justice until he was able to make the hot tag to The Force. Justice hits the Liberation Slam…1…2…3! D

The show ends with T-Rex down in the center of the ring as The Force and Justice exits the ring.

I Need A Win….

Show ratings were in…0.76 on Sports America. Not the conclusion I had hoped for (D rating overall). Sam was pretty p-o’d about the underwhelming performance and leaving off top guys like Bruce and Caulfield. What can I say, I wanted to sell the rigors of the steel cage match. He can place the blame on himself as much as he can on me. He’s the reason we’re pushing no talent hacks like Valentine and Jones. Sneer Corp feels second rate; not sure if the former shrimp boy is the one to take that group to the heights I need it to go.

We're just a few weeks away from our first pay per view Star, Stripes, and Slams and the girls seem to be the lone bright spot right now.

The show opens with Tyson Baine standing in the middle of the ring.

Baine:

Enygma! Enough with the games! Come out here and face me right now!

T-Rex’s music hits as he heads down to the ring. Once inside He and Baine exchange a few angry words before Rex grabs a microphone.

T-Rex:

You got a lot of nerve coming out here to call out Enygma after you hung me out to dry last week!

Baine:

Stop right there! I hope you didn’t come out here expecting an apology. ‘Cause I got news for you, that’s not gonna happen. You of all people should know I’m here for one reason…the World Heavyweight Title! And there is nothing or nobody that I won’t go through to get to it. Whether it’s Enygma, Bruce the Giant, or You!

T-Rex: I wouldn’t worry too much about Enygma. His chances of making to Stars, Stripes, and Slams in one piece after our match tonight are slim. But instead of being so concerned about taking the strap off of Enygma you need to be more concerned about what I’m going to do about last week!

T-Rex and Baine both drops their microphones and go toe to toe with eachother. Commissioner Doom’s music breaks the tension as both men back away and direct their attention to Doom.

Doom:

Attennn…tion! I had to come out here to put a stop to this nonsense. With so many viel maggots running around backstage I couldn’t allow myself to sit by and watch to warriors such as yourselves tear eachother apart.

You’ve got anger and aggression…I like that. We’re going to put those qualities to good use. Because tonight not only will we see T-Rex go one on one with Enygma but Tyson Baine will take on James Justice! And that match is next! Don’t let me down, boys. Dismissed! C

Tyson Baine vs James Justice

In a match that had great heat and great in ring action we saw Tyson Baine pick up the victory at 13:58 after T-Rex distracted James Justice allowing Baine to hit the Hades Bomb for the pinfall. Baine was clearly confused as to why T-Rex would help him out in his match after he fed him to the wolves last week. C+

After the match was over T-Rex decided to add a little insult to injury as he delivers a Jurrasic Crunch to Justice. Baine stands by and watches his former partner stand victoriously over Justice’s broken body, his stare burning a hole through Tyson Baine.

A huge pop from the crowd as The Force slides in the ring and lays out the unsuspecting T-Rex with a flying clothesline! Rex rolls out of the ring, Force turns his attention to Tyson! Summoning the force!! Baine quickly ducks out of the ring allowing The Force to check on his fallen friend. C+

The Sneer Corperation hit the ring one person short with the absence of Anger. Sneer grabs a mic and publicy throws Anger out of the group. Claiming he is too much of a liability to the Corp. He reiterates the statement he made two weeks ago when he said that if a member of the Sneer Corperation doesn’t get the job done then he will replace them with someone who will. He then goes on to express his full confidence in Jumbo Jackson and the Towers of Power. As he’s talking Nicky Champion comes out.

Champion:

I’m sorry, did I interupt your little lovefest? Allow me to be the first person to take you up on your little offer. You claim that you’ll replace any one of your minions there if they don’t quote get it done unquote? Well if I remember correctly I pinned Jumbo Jackson’s shoulders to the mat two weeks ago.

Do you call that “getting it done”?

Jackson:

You and I both know what would have happened if Anger hadn’t screwed up, Nicky!

Champion:

Anger screwed up, that’s fair enough. I beat you once I think I can beat you again. Say…at Stars, Stripes, and Slams? Whatcha say, Jumbo? Man enough for a rematch?

Jackson:

You’re on, Nicky! At Stars, Stripes, and Slams I’m going to kick your head in! C-

Chris Caulfield vs Darryl Devine w/Seduction

Darryl Devine is looking confident and cool after last week’s loss to Bob Casey. The bell rings, Devine flirts and blows a kiss at Seduction not paying a second thought to his opponent in the ring. Finally he turns and charges at Caulfield who rolls him up for the pinfall at 0:33! Devine is stunned! C-

The Television Champion Andre Jones is in the ring with his opponent Java about to start the match when the National Champion Peter Valentine comes out.

Valentine:

Last week you made a mockery out of Peter Valentine, Andre. I thought I made the rules clear to you last a couple of weeks ago. Nowhere did Peter Valentine say that either one of us were allowed to get involved with the other’s match. You were in clear violation of the rules. Therefore, I did not forfeit my National title over to Captain USA when you layed his foot on the ropes severely crippling Peter Valentine’s ability to beat your time of 5:52 seconds.

Now what I need from you is to try to focus. PV knows your probably from the ghetto and you don’t have any manners to speak of but we’re all gentlemen here so let’s try to act like gentlemen, shall we?

So we’ll try this one more time. Pete the Treat will be watching the match from the comfort of his private locker room, if you win then next week Peter Valentine will do the same….only better.D+

Cherry Bomb/Belle Bryden vs Raven Robinson/Alicia Strong

In the first underperformed match from the ladies we saw Cherry Bomb pick up the victory as she pinned the Women’s Champion Raven Robinson with the Cherry Bomb. If she does the same at Stars, Stripes, and Slams she’ll have earned her second title run. D+

Davis Ditterich was backstage with the World Tag Team Champions The People’s Team, Des Davids and Freddie Datsun. Pretty cut and dry promo in which they feel like they’re be overlooked so they issue an open challenge to any team to face them at Stars, Stripes, and Slams. D+

Notes: With the lack of heel tag teams we needed to get these guys on tv doing something.

After the match was over T-Rex got in Tyson’s face. Another near encounter is disrupted by the presence of the 7’4 600 lb number one contendar Bruce the Giant. He gets in the ring and lays both T-Rex and Tyson Baine out with a Giant Chokeslam! He attention turns to Enygma lying on the canvas. He grabs him up by his neck and drives him back down with another giant chokeslam! B-

The show goes off the air with Bruce the Giant standing in the aftermath of his destruction. They’re bodies lying everywhere!
