Profiles

New Zealand's first and only wrestling promotion, ZEN: Art Of Wrestling was created by local worker Halloween Knight in 2007 in order to give a place to work for the new wave of wrestlers who were coming through in the area. A cult classic in the making, ZEN mixes the cutting edge athletic and technical aspects of lucha libre with a healthy dose of off-the-wall humour and zany characters. The emphasis is primarily on producing fun shows that everyone can enjoy, and they do it well, but the quality of wrestling they produce should not be overlooked either.

ZEN are very proud of the fact that they are the first ever "full equality" promotion, where gender is no barrier to being on their roster - this is slightly undermined by the fact that they have yet to actually have any women try to work for them though. Still, it's the thought that counts.

In the new year of 2010, Jack Avatar made a trip from America on his private sailboat to New Zealand on vacation. Along the way Jack encountered multiple storms and nearly shipwrecked. However, thanks to the help of Lone Shark and Devilfish, he was able to land safely when these guardians of the waters came to his rescue. Jack mentioned that he was a pro wrestler as well as a booker and producer. The Devilsharks were stunned by this coincidence, and invited Jack Avatar to come investigate one of their shows. With no where else to go and still shaken by the recent events, Jack decided that some good ol' wrestling might be the medicine he needs.

So Jack attended his first ever ZEN show in a building of about 100 or so Zenamaniacs. It was obvious to him that the promotion was very new and small, but he saw some potential in it. He currently had an offer on the table from USPW to go book and wrestle for them, but he wasn't really "feeling it" after being the victim of a hoax by Peter Valentine during his visit. Jack decided that it was time to meet with the owner of ZEN about a possible job opportunity for himself.

Knight had heard a little bit of Avatar before, about his renown booking and production skills. He had no idea about Jack's willingness to book a small time promotion like his. He gave Avatar a tryout, just to see what Jack wanted to bring to the table. Jack's assignment was a current, ongoing project for ZEN; the first ever ZEN DVD. Jack tackled the project, and had it ready for viewing within two weeks. The DVD was a big success for ZEN, which was loaded with special effects and extra interviews that Avatar had members of the roster conduct. As an added bonus, Jack Avatar included one of his old matches from his american independent days, which also impressed Halloween Knight. Halloween Knight acted fast, and signed up Jack Avatar to be his new head booker.

In this diary, we will look into the ways Jack Avatar changed ZEN for better or worse. The perspective will lean more towards the viewer at home who purchases these ZEN DVD's. Rumor has it they could be moving up to blu ray in the near future.

<p>A lovely layout. Keep it up <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

edit: Though I must say, using Jack Avatar is a crushing disappointment. Take 10 minutes, find a render from the alt thread or something, and come up with an all new character. Jack Avatar diaries make me weep <img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

Don't do that. Make him a heel and have him be super normal. Have constantly railing against the shenanigans going on. And why is everyone else under a mask what do they have to hide. Tirade after tirade about everything that Zen is about. Make him the most hated character on the roster.

ZEN DVD: WAY OF THE DREAMER

JANUARY 2010.

50 IN ATTENDANCE (EST. 30)

ZEN TEMPLE

COST: $8,600

RATING: D- (SUCCESS)

<hr color="white">

SEGMENT 1

ANGLE FEAT: LONE SHARK, NECROMANCER, JESTER, DEVILFISH, HALLOWEEN KNIGHT

RATING: E

We start off with an introduction video showing all five men making their arrivals to the building. Lone Shark and Devil Fish wash up on shore and making a run for it across the beach. Jester escapes the asylum after knocking out two security guards. And finally, Halloween Knight and Necromancer standing on top of the Zen Temple, overlooking the madness. They watch from the rooftop as the three contenders enter the building, Knight with his Master Championship around the waist. Necromancer speaks to Knight. "Master of ZEN, the dreamers have arrived." Knight nods his head calmly. The scene fades back to a shot of the ring.

SEGMENT 2

MATCH FEAT: CYANIDE VS. JACK AVATAR

RATING: D+

Jack Avatar defeated Cyanide in 13:51 by pinfall with a fast roll up. Jack Avatar has arrived! Boy was he impressive. This was easily a candidate for match of the night, with Cyanide dominating the new kid for most of the match. The surprise roll up came fast when Jack countered a russian legsweep with a small package. Good showing by both men.

SEGMENT 3

ANGLE FEAT: JACK AVATAR

RATING: C

Jack Avatar is on the mic now. He's getting mixed reactions from the crowd, but mostly babyface pops. He's targeting F.E.A.R., specifically Halloween Knight!

"Halloween Knight, I just survived a match with one of your strongest henchmen, and came out victorious. Now I'll admit, you guys here are pretty violent and the intensity shown here caught me off guard. But I know that I am meant to be here in ZEN. I don't have a crazy mask or some disturbing life story to tell, but I will give you the story of "All American Boy" Jack Avatar. Who am I? Well, I'm just an honest, hard working, man with a family to feed. And I think that's something which is missing here in ZEN. You got all these freaks, but where are the fam-"

Before Jack can continue, the lights flicker and his mic is killed. The lights return to normal as we see Jack Avatar is now in the ring with a crushed jackolantern. Jack looks around confused before leaving the ring.

SEGMENT 4

MATCH FEAT: C-W-A VS. NIGHTMARE SLASHER

RATING: E-

C-W-A defeated Nightmare Slasher in 5:33 by pinfall following botched interference by Nightmare Stalker. Some will say it's the most pointless match on the card, I thought it was fun for about five minutes, which is all it was. Five minutes of C-W-A doing what C-W-A does best, beat the snot out of whoever is in front of him with whatever he can find lying around. We did see some interference by Stalker, but it didn't do much to aide Slasher any. Their plan actually backfired as Stalker accidentally hit Slasher with the lead pipe. That allowed C-W-A to hit the Clown Killer Delux on Slasher for the win.

SEGMENT 5

MATCH FEAT: C-W-A VS. NIGHTMARE STALKER

RATING: E

C-W-A defeated Nightmare Stalker in 6:17 by pinfall. Ok, when I said five minutes I meant ten minutes. This second match was not as bad, it was actually an improvement. There was some chemistry between these two, which could help the both of them if this turns into a long term feud. Again, C-W-A hits the Clown Killer Delux after dominating and gets the win. Bad night for The Horror Show, but I think it's only a matter of time before they overtake C-W-A.

SEGMENT 6

MATCH FEAT: ERASER VS. QUICKSILVER

RATING: F+

Quick Silver defeated Eraser in 6:51 by pinfall with a Silversault. Ugly match. Both guys are on opposite ends of the spectrum as far as wrestling skill goes. Eraser wins in an even contest after hitting his version of a moonsault off the top. I hope we never see this match again. Jack, what were you thinking when you booked this?

SEGMENT 7

MATCH FEAT: DEVILFISH VS. NECROMANCER

RATING: E+

Necromancer defeated Devilfish in 9:17 by submission with a Death Scream. In the match was interference by Cyanide. The Devilsharks-F.E.A.R. feud continues in this one on one qualifying match. It wasn't that bad really, and both men stayed even. Devilfish went to the top rope for some big move, but was pushed off by Cyanide. Necromancer caught Devilfish on the way down and threw him into his submission finisher. Necromancer is now the number one contender, and will go on to the triple threat match later tonight.

SEGMENT 8

MATCH FEAT: JESTER VS. LONE SHARK

RATING: D-

Lone Shark defeated Jester in 8:47 by pinfall with a Blood In The Water. Good work shown by both men here in this qualifying match for the main event. The match was even but by the end of it, you knew Lone Shark was clearly the stronger man. Shark took out Jester with a lariat in the corner, and followed up with the Blood in the Water. The main event is set now. It will be Halloween Knight defending the Master of ZEN title against Lone Shark and Necromancer.

SEGMENT 9

TITLE MATCH FEAT: SEEKER VS. SHAOLIN ©

RATING: E

Shaolin defeated Seeker in 10:37 by pinfall with a Death Touch. It's nice to see Seeker make it into ZEN, although he does have a reputation for being clumsy with his moves. It was noticeable a few times in this match with Shaolin. This match was very close with Seeker nearly hitting his snap neckbreaker on Shaolin. Shaolin countered though, and hit the Death Touch for the win. Afterwards, Shaolin celebrated with... well, nothing.

SEGMENT 10

ANGLE FEAT: HALLOWEEN KNIGHT, LONE SHARK, NECROMANCER

RATING: D-

We go to the back where Halloween Knight has finally left the roof top to enter the building. His black and white clan follow closely behind. He stops for a moment to cut a promo into the cameras.

"Interesting night, huh Lone Shark? It looks like the odds are stacked up against you once again. But that doesn't really matter, does it? We both know that even if it had been you and Devilfish, I would have found a way to remain Master of ZEN. This just makes my night that much easier. You've never been in the ring with two F.E.A.R. members Lone Shark. You can't even handle me alone, why should you even show up tonight? But please, please do show up Shark. My ghouls are hungry, and they need to feed. And as for this new kid, Jack Avatar. Jack, you need to take a look around. You're not in California, you're in my temple. I control everything that goes on here, including you. Earlier tonight I took away your spotlight, your voice, and your control over your surroundings. I can do a lot more than that. Jack, I want you to watch how powerful I am in that ring tonight, and then I want you to re evaluate your goals here in ZEN. If you're not careful, they may cost you your career. Oh, and welcome to the temple."

SEGMENT 11

TITLE MATCH FEAT: HALLOWEEN KNIGHT © VS. LONE SHARK VS. NECROMANCER

RATING: D+

Halloween Knight defeated Necromancer and Lone Shark in 13:44 when Halloween Knight defeated Necromancer by submission with a Pumpkin Patch. During the match we also had Devilfish run in and attack Necromancer. I'm gonna go with this being the match of the night, even with all the sports-entertainment drama thrown in. This match featured a lot of two-on-one, with Halloween Knight controlling Necromancer in doing his dirty work. Lone Shark was finally able to take down Necromancer, with the help of Devilfish's interference. He hit the play of the day and followed up with the Blood in the Water to take Necro out of the equation.

It's now a fresh Halloween Knight up against a weakened Lone Shark. They fight a hard match, with Necromancer still hurt on the outside. Lone Shark is looking strong now as he backs Knight into a corner and goes to town on him. A low blow from behind by Necromancer goes unseen by Steven Yale. No big surprise there. Halloween Knight and Necromancer work over Lone Shark together, but cannot seem to keep him down. Necromancer continues to work on Shark as Halloween Knight starts to go into a trance of some kind.

Fog begins to come out from under the ring, nearly covering the second rope. Halloween Knight raises his arms and a squad of black and white clad, masked men emerge from under the ring. Their costumes and body types all match the description of Halloween Knight's! The clones begins to switch out with Halloween Knight, giving blind referee Steven Yale his biggest challenge yet. They attack Lone Shark endlessly until Shark cannot stand anymore. The real Halloween Knight finally re-enters the ring and dismisses his ghouls and smoke effects. He locks in the Pumpkin Patch on Lone Shark, which renders Shark unconscious. Halloween Knight retains.

SEGMENT 12

ANGLE FEAT: DEVILFISH, NECROMANCER

RATING: E-

Following the match, Devilfish attacks Halloween Knight with a leg lariat. He takes a dive to the outside on Necromancer, and goes to work on him. They fight to the back as Halloween Knight and Lone Shark are left alone in the ring.

SEGMENT 13

ANGLE FEAT: CYANIDE, HALLOWEEN KNIGHT, JACK AVATAR, LONE SHARK

RATING: D-

Halloween Knight calls out Cyanide to make an attack on Lone Shark. They want to put Lone Shark away for good this time. Halloween Knight puts a chair in place to inflict some heavier damage. Cyanide gets ready to plant him with a DDT, but in rushes JACK AVATAR! Avatar in for the save, goes straight for a tackle on Cyanide. He takes the chair and charges after Halloween Knight, but the lights go out before he can make contact.

The lights return, and Halloween Knight has disappeared, leaving Avatar, Shark, and Cyanide in the ring. Avatar slams the chair down out of frustration. Avatar drags a groggy Cyanide to his feet, and plants him with a DDT on the chair. The fans remain split as he goes to help Lone Shark recover.

Halloween Knight re-appears at the entry way, quietly observing Jack Avatar.

Your layout is wicked. :D

And the idea of a man working with an invisible afro is great too. Maybe pair him up with a worker with an actual afro who is under the mistaken belief that he is slowly losing his hair.

It is a pretty cool idea. I can't find anyone with the afro though. I guess ill have to come up with something different. Maybe a butcher who teams up with an animal rights activist.

ZEN DVD: WAY OF THE SCHOLAR

FEBRUARY 2010.

COST: $7,900

RATING: D+ (SUCCESS)

<hr color="white">

SEGMENT 1

ANGLE FEAT: JACK AVATAR, HALLOWEEN KNIGHT

RATING: D+

The show starts with no pyro display or video opening, just Jack Avatar coming out to the ring for a promo. His entrance music is a theme of punk rock with some patriotic lyrics. He calls for a mic as he receives an even amount of cheers and boos.

"Last week, your one and only American superstar made himself a target by getting in the face of F.E.A.R. A lot of people seem to think I did this for my own benefit, but let me assure you, this is all for the good of ZEN. It's time to bring some wholesome, family value to this Temple," says Jack Avatar as the cheers begin to shift to boos.

Jack Avatar - "It's not your fault though, because you've had guys like Halloween Knight come out here and set a poor example. Ladies and gentleman, I am here as your new leader to look up to. I am like Christopher Columbus, making my great voyage to your land and sharing my wealth. We can turn New Zealand into New America, people."

Thunder rolls in, followed by the death metal tune that is F.E.A.R.'s theme song. Halloween Knight steps out to make his official appearance.

Halloween Knight - "I think I've heard enough for now Jack, before I send in the ghouls to shut you up. How are you even breathing right now? I know some people are for you, and some are against you. I know personally I wanna dice you into small pieces and ship you back to the States in a plastic bag."

Jack Avatar - "That's the kind of filth I'm talking about! You and all these ZEN freaks think you're so cool running around planting all these disturbing images in people's heads. Well, it ends now! Halloween Knight, you've been like a leader for this crusade since the beginning, therefor I hold you responsible for the degenerative behavior that goes on around here. Your reign of tyranny is about to end. You call yourselves F.E.A.R., well I call myself The Campaign which is against F.E.A.R.. Change is on the way Halloween Knight."

Halloween Knight - "Campaign? Hah! Who will join you after you just referred to us all as 'freaks?'"

Jack Avatar - "Those who want change will join me, and trust me there are several who want you and your group gone. We will remove you from your spot as Master of ZEN, and I will take your place. Once that happens, I will bring CHANGE to ZEN. And those who want change will stand beside me as we change ZEN for the better. There will be rough times, but we will stay united no matter what. Ladies and gentleman, I want you to remember these three words when the time comes where we feel challenged: 'Yes He Can.'"

Halloween Knight - "You think you can just come in and knock me off my throne that easily? You've seen my powers first hand, what makes you think you can go up against me!"

Jack Avatar - "I have seen your powers, and they are very lethal. But I have powers as well Halloween Knight. I have patriotic powers which you haven't seen yet. The first one being the power of politics..."

SEGMENT 2

ANGLE FEAT: HALLOWEEN KNIGHT, X-CALIBRE

RATING: E

Before Halloween Knight has a chance to respond, he his hit from behind by X-Calibre! X overwhelms Knight with lightning quick punches before F.E.A.R. come out to chase him away. X-Calibre joins Jack Avatar in the ring as the two display their new alliance.

Jack Avatar - "F.E.A.R., say hello to X-Calibre. He has joined The Campaign for the good of ZEN."

SEGMENT 3

MATCH FEAT: C-W-A vs. THE HORROR SHOW

RATING: E-

C-W-A defeated The Horror Show in 10:05 by pinfall. The match met my expectations as a long term viewer. Nothing fancy, just terrible wrestling at it's finest. C-W-A used everything in his arsenal to take down The Horror Show in this handicap match, eventually using a baking pan to knock Slasher out. With Slasher done, he went after Stalker who didn't put up much of a fight. He hit the Clown Killer Delux to put an end to this uneventful match.

SEGMENT 4

MATCH FEAT: CYANIDE VS. JACK AVATAR

RATING: D

Jack Avatar defeated Cyanide in 12:52 by pinfall. Their second match improved a bit from their first go last month. Avatar stayed light on his feet throughout while Cyanide used various suplexes. In the end, Avatar won with a frog splash off the top rope, which he calls "The Avatar Act."

SEGMENT 5

ANGLE FEAT: X-CALIBRE

RATING: E+

X-Calibre is shown in the back with lead announcer Sparky Sparks putting over Jack Avatar and "The Campaign," talking about all the change that is about to take place. "It feels great to be a part of something special, Sparks. Jack Avatar has changed my life and I'm sure he will change more lives as time goes on. Say it with me people, YES HE CAN!"

SEGMENT 6

MATCH FEAT: SEEKER VS. X-CALIBRE

RATING: D-

X-Calibre defeated Seeker in 11:32 by pinfall. This wasn't bad for the men involved, and gave Seeker another chance to show us what he's all about. Fortunately for him it was a step in the right direction. Too bad he came short again this week when X-Calibre reversed the neckbreaker into an ace crusher. X then finished him off with the springboard 460. This should put X in line for a Conceptual Title shot very soon.

SEGMENT 7

ANGLE FEAT: CYANIDE, JACK AVATAR, NECROMANCER

RATING: D-

The camera cut to the back where Jack Avatar is getting bounced back and forth by Cyanide and Necromancer following a sneak attack. Cyanide hits a spinebuster through a catering table(glad we purchased that perk) before handing him off to Necromancer, who fights him to the ring.

SEGMENT 8

MATCH FEAT: JACK AVATAR VS. NECROMANCER

RATING: D+

Jack Avatar defeated Necromancer in 14:22 by pinfall. Good match with a good crowd. It's nice to see Necromancer in a main event quality match again after losing the Master of ZEN last year. Unfortunately, it was against a man who had already fought earlier that evening. Still, good quality action here. Necro went for a springboard move but got caught by a super kick from Avatar. Avatar followed up with the Avatar Act off the top to finish him off.

SEGMENT 9

ANGLE FEAT: Devilshark

RATING: E

A Devilshark video package of footage from last month where they were "injured" at the hands of F.E.A.R.m which caused them to not make it to this months show. They are scheduled to return next month.

SEGMENT 10

MATCH FEAT: SUPER ZERO VS. THE BRISBANE DEVIL

RATING: E+

The Brisbane Devil defeated Superzero in 8:15 by pinfall. This was an odd pairing, but featured the debut of The Brisbane Devil, now going solo, against Super Zero, who is also flying solo tonight. Terrible match, with Devil hitting the thumb spike after throwing Super Zero around like a rag doll. Hopefully Devil can go up against someone who's more of a brawler next time.

SEGMENT 11

CONCEPTUAL TITLE MATCH FEAT: JESTER VS. SHAOLIN ©

RATING: E-

Shaolin defeated Jester in 12:55 by pinfall. There was zero chemistry between these two, and it was very noticeable. Shaolin hit a superplex and follow up with the Death Touch for the win. After the match, Shaolin celebrated with nothing. They really should get something for the champion to celebrate with, even if it's like a victory cup cake.

SEGMENT 12

MASTER OF ZEN MATCH FEAT: HALLOWEEN KNIGHT VS. JACK AVATAR

RATING: C-

Halloween Knight defeated Jack Avatar in 25:46 by submission. One of the best matches of all time for ZEN. This was easily match of the night, with both men slowly building to the big finish. They started off with Halloween Knight quickly exposing the weakened knee of Jack Avatar. He worked over that body part for a large portion of the match. Interference came from Cyanide as Avatar began to fire up. Avatar knocked him out with ease. X-Calibre came down to act as a blocking force against Cyanide.

The difference maker would be Necromancer, who came down to distract Jack Avatar with a photograph of some kind. Avatar flipped out when he saw the photo, meaning it must be something personal to him. Right before he was about to make a dive for Necro, Knight smashed him in the back of the head with the Master of ZEN belt. That allowed him to lock in the Pumpkin Patch. Avatar put up a struggle, but in the end he was too weak to continue.

ZEN News and Preview

<hr color="white">

"ZEN: Art of Wrestling held ZEN Way Of The Scholar 2010 last night in The ZEN Temple, and drew 38 fans. The feedback has been awesome, the small company has outshone some of the bigger promotion's recent efforts."

Jack Avatar is feeling confident in his abilities as a wrestler and a booker after last nights show. While half of the show did feature himself, he believes it was pulled off properly without overpushing himself. He is feeling the effects of last night though, and will be taking it easy over the next couple of weeks while he plans out the next show.

It is a pretty cool idea. I can't find anyone with the afro though. I guess ill have to come up with something different. Maybe a butcher who teams up with an animal rights activist.

One of the future ZEN dojo graduates has an afro. :D

MARCH 2010.

ZEN TEMPLE

COST: $9,500

RATING: D+ (SUCCESS)

<hr color="white">

SEGMENT 1

ANGLE FEAT: HALLOWEEN KNIGHT, JACK AVATAR, NECROMANCER

RATING: D+

Halloween Knight opens the show, standing in a ring which is surrounded by several of his nameless "ghouls." Necromancer joins him inside as well as he begins his speech. He tells Jack that the better man won last month and mocks Avatar's catchaphrase with "no he cant!" Necromancer takes over on the stick and babbles on about the strength of F.E.A.R. before bringing up the photograph which he used to distract Jack Avatar with last month. He shows it to the crowd and then the camera. The photo is apparently Jack Avatar's now deceased pet chiuaua hanging by it's neck. The duo begin to laugh out before being interrupted by Avatar's theme song.

SEGMENT 2

ANGLE FEAT: HALLOWEEN KNIGHT, JACK AVATAR, NECROMANCER

RATING: D

Before Necromancer can mutter another word, Jack Avatar jumps out of the crowd and attacks him from behind. The crowd rises for Jack, cheering him on as he goes to avenge his murdered dog. He smacks Knight in the back with a chair which sent him rolling out of the ring. Jack turns to Necro who is trying to plead with Jack, but gets hit over the head instead. He drops Necro with a piledriver on that same chair before sending him off.

SEGMENT 3

ANGLE FEAT: HALLOWEEN KNIGHT, JACK AVATAR, NECROMANCER

RATING: D+

Jack Avatar has gone crazy! He throws the chair out and goes for the mic. He tells F.E.A.R. to watch their backs because he's coming for them. He says they crossed the line when they attacked his family, and he will avenge his pup.

SEGMENT 4

MATCH FEAT: C-W-A VS. JACK AVATAR

RATING: D+

Jack Avatar defeated C-W-A in 11:41 by pinfall with a Avatar Act. This was a good match where both men focused on working up the crowd for the show. It came off well, as they pulled off one of the best openers this year. C-W-A tried his usual routine of tricks, this time using a bowling pin to beat down Avatar after he juggled several of them. The end had Avatar make a come back when he ducked a bowling pin shot, and hit the backstabber. He followed up with a tornado DDT, and finally his frog splash finisher.

SEGMENT 5

MATCH FEAT: DEVILFISH VS. SEEKER

RATING: E+

Devilfish defeated Seeker in 9:26 by pinfall with a fast roll up. This probably wasn't the best match to show following the previous one. Seeker had another bad night here as he pulled off several sloppy moves. The end had Devilfish counter the ddt with a small package for the win.

SEGMENT 6

MATCH FEAT: CYANIDE VS. NIGHTMARE SLASHER

RATING: E

Cyanide defeated Nightmare Slasher in 7:10 by pinfall with a Skull Splitter. During the match we also had C-W-A run in and attack Slasher. Cyanide stayed strong against Slasher, and really gave him no chance of winning. When Slasher did have a chance, it was quickly taken away as C-W-A came down for the distraction. Cyanide acted fast and put Slasher in a rear naked choke for the tap out.

SEGMENT 7

MATCH FEAT: JESTER VS. NIGHTHAWK

RATING: E+

Nighthawk defeated Jester in 8:43 by pinfall with a Diving Inverted Bulldog. Although the wrestling was pretty terrible, the match did keep the crowd interested. Nighthawk hits the stinger splash in the corner, and follows up with the inverted bulldog for the win.

SEGMENT 8

CONCEPTUAL TITLE MATCH FEAT: SHAOLIN © VS. X-CALIBRE

RATING: E

X-Calibre defeated Shaolin in 7:33 by pinfall with a Springboard 460. X-Calibre wins the ZEN Conceptual title. They stayed even all the way through until the end when X-Calibre ducked a roundhouse kick and dropped Shaolin with a jawbreaker. He followed up with the springboard 460 to win the title.

SEGMENT 9

ANGLE FEAT: X-CALIBRE

RATING: D

X-Calibre takes the mic for his post match celebration speech. He says that it feels good to have the Conceptual Title not around his waist again, and that he owes it all to the Avatar Campaign. He says it changed his life and that now he shall go on to do great things.

SEGMENT 10

MATCH FEAT: DEVILSHARK VS. THE DARK KNIGHTS

RATING: D-

DevilShark defeated The Dark Knights in 13:16 when Lone Shark defeated Necromancer by pinfall with a Blood In The Water. This was a great return for the Devilsharks, as they went up against their biggest rivals. The match was a close one with a sesaw fight for that final victory pin. Devilfish hit his finisher on Necromancer, but the pin was interrupted by Knight who hit his finisher. Knights pin was interrupted by Lone Shark, who used his finisher to put away Knight for the pin.

SEGMENT 11

ZEN MASTER TITLE MATCH: HALLOWEEN KNIGHT © VS. JACK AVATAR VS. LONE SHARK

RATING: C

Jack Avatar defeated Halloween Knight and Lone Shark in 25:09 when Jack Avatar defeated Halloween Knight by pinfall with a Avatar Act. Jack Avatar wins the ZEN Master title. Great match here, the best we have seen in ZEN. I had expected the Lone Shark factor to drag it down some, but it actually made the match more interesting. These three worked a classic triple threat style match with mostly fast paced aerial moves involved. Multiple pin breaks ups, a short lived alliance between Shark and Avatar, and the mass finisher finale were all there. Avatar ducked a missle dropkick from Halloween Knight which hit Lone Shark. Avatar then a death valley driver, dropping Knight on the sternum of Shark. He then hit the Avatar Act off the top for the win. Jack Avatar is the new ZEN Master.

SEGMENT 12

ANGLE FEAT: JACK AVATAR, NECROMANCER

RATING: D-

To end the show, Necromancer made a surprise run-in to attack Jack Avatar in the ring. He smashed him over the head with his belt, and then hit a legdrop with the belt placed over Avatar's head.

ZEN DVD: WAY OF THE PHILOSOPHER

APRIL 2010.

48 IN ATTENDANCE (EST. 40)

ZEN TEMPLE

COST: $8,300

RATING: D+ (SUCCESS)

<hr color="white">

SEGMENT 1

ANGLE FEAT: HALLOWEEN KNIGHT, JACK AVATAR

RATING: C-

An enraged Halloween Knight walks out, alone tonight, as he goes in the ring to ask for mic. Knight starts off by saying how he hasn't been able to sleep all month knowing that there's an american reigning as ZEN Master, and he's been eagerly waiting for this night to come. He tells Jack Avatar that he cannot wait to step in the cage with him and take back what is rightfully his.

Knight is cut off by the sound of Jack Avatar's music, and out comes Jack Avatar looking extra happy with his title belt. Jack tells Knight that he'll get his chance tonight in the cage, and that it will be a brutal match. He tells Knight that The Avatar Campaign is running strong, and it's time for Knight to get with the times. Avatar says that so far he only has X-Calibre on his side, but that will all change now that he's ZEN Master. Halloween Knight interrupts to tell Avatar that the only change which will take place tonight, is a title change. He's tired of hearing about "The Avatar Campaign," and after tonight it will be forgotten.

SEGMENT 2

FIRST BLOOD MATCH FEAT: C-W-A VS. NIGHTMARE STALKER

RATING: E

C-W-A defeated Nightmare Stalker in a 1 vs 1 First Blood match in 7:37 when Nightmare Stalker was busted open. This was your typical short, weapon spots match with these two feuding brawlers. The ring was filled with trash cans, street signs, and chairs. Stalker went to use a chair several times on C-W-A, but C-W-A had on a padded mask to protect himself. Stalker had to work on getting the mask off C-W-A in order to draw blood, but had a difficult time doing so. C-W-A hit Stalker with a low blow, followed by a DDT on a street sign. He smashed Stalker over the head with a chair which left a cut across his forehead. With the blood starting to drip down Stalkers face, the referee called for the bell.

SEGMENT 3

ANGLE FEAT: SHAOLIN

RATING: E

They show a video of Shaolin walking around a local zoo wearing his ninja attire and a sun visor hat. They show him gently petting a llama. Next he's cuddling a monkey in his arms. Finally, they show him petting and hugging a grown tiger. The bottom of the screen then reads "Shaolin... Animal lover."

SEGMENT 4

MATCH FEAT: JACK AVATAR VS. NECROMANCER

RATING: D+

Jack Avatar defeated Necromancer in 13:46 by pinfall. The crowd was all over this one as it featured several near falls and decent spots. Jack was fighting for the death of his pet chiuaua which Necromancer had murdered two months ago. The ending had Necromancer charging in for a big move on Avatar as he hung chest first over the second rope. Avatar rolled out of the way so that Necro hit nothing but rope. Avatar hit the backstabber on Necro, and then finally the Avatar Act off the top for the win.

SEGMENT 5

MATCH FEAT: LONE SHARK VS. HALLOWEEN KNIGHT

RATING: C

Halloween Knight defeated Lone Shark in 13:50 by submission with a Pumpkin Patch. I definitely did not see this one coming, but these two managed to outdo Jack Avatar's performance. They obviously showed great chemistry here, and it should really help with future booking knowing that these two can pull off a main event quality match. The finish had Knight counter a tornado ddt with a sky high. He then rolled over and locked in the cloverleaf a.k.a. the Pumpkin Patch for the submission.

SEGMENT 6

ANGLE FEAT: JESTER, SUPER ZERO, VERTIGO

RATING: E-

A video from earlier is shown where Super Zero had organized a videogame tournament in the back prior to the show. It skips ahead to the final round where it's Super Zero vs. Jester playing Street Fighter IV. The fight is intense as the locker room cheers them on. Jester is dominating using Zangrief before Super Zero makes a big comeback with Ryu. He hits one last haduken which puts Zangrief/Jester down for good. Jester throws the controller into the tv monitor in a fit as Super Zero cheers. Jester then takes the game console and smashes it on the ground. The situation gets serious as Super Zero looks down at his console which is now in pieces, and then up at Jester. He goes to grab Jester but the locker room is quick to separate them.

SEGMENT 7

MATCH FEAT: NIGHTHAWK VS. WARMONGER

RATING: D-

Warmonger defeated Nighthawk in 11:01 by pinfall with a Spine Shatterer. This wasn't bad, it was actually a solid debut for Warmonger in a fairly close match. The final moments had Nighthawk miss with the stinger splash in the corner, which allowed Warmonger to hit the Spine Shatterer for the pinfall.

SEGMENT 8

ANGLE FEAT: JACK AVATAR, WARMONGER

RATING: D

Jack Avatar is walking out for his match when he is attacked from behind by Warmonger! Warmonger throws Avatar into the ring post with a firemans carry and stomps the hell out of him on the outside. Completely uncalled for!

SEGMENT 9

ZEN MASTER TITLE CAGE MATCH FEAT: HALLOWEEN KNIGHT VS. JACK AVATAR©

RATING: C

Jack Avatar defeated Halloween Knight in a 1 vs 1 Cage Modern match in 24:34 by pinfall. This was good all around, with Halloween Knight looking strong especially after the attack on Avatar from Warmonger. Knight worked over the back of Avatar for most of the match, throwing it against the cage walls multiple times. Knight was ready to win via cage escape but only made it with his fingers touching the top before he was powerbombed back down by Avatar. Avatar then rolled him up and pinned the shoulders for the victory.

He tells the crowd to get a good look at the new and improved F.E.A.R.. Knight says they had been looking for a fourth member for quite some time, and finally found the perfect man to fill the fourth spot. He puts over Warmonger some more, giving us the scoop on his background in street fighting and work in the Australian military.

Warmonger takes the mic and tells Jack Avatar to watch out, because F.E.A.R. is stronger than it's ever been. He also informs Jack that he is his first target, and that he will chase him down the same way Avatar did to Knight. Halloween Knight is back on the stick now to close the promo. He wraps it up by hyping up the main event which he says will be dominated by F.E.A.R..

SEGMENT 2

MATCH FEAT: C-W-A VS. MAN O' WAR

RATING: D-

C-W-A defeated Man O' War in 7:48 by pinfall. It's been a while since we saw Man O' War ever since he mysteriously disappeared from the shows. Tonight he had a decent go, not really showing any signs of rust. The end had C-W-A knock him out with a colorful set of brass knuckles behind the referee's back. C-W-A covered him quickly to steal the win.

SEGMENT 3

HARMONY TITLE MATCH FEAT: THE MERCS VS. THE SKY KINGS

RATING: D-

The Sky Kings defeated The Mercs in 10:11 when Super Zero defeated Eraser by pinfall. This was fought over the video game tournament that took place last month which The Merc's showed poor sportsmanship at the end. It wasn't a good match, but that was expected from these four midcard drifters. Zero hit a springboard senton on Eraser for the win as Jester was tangled up with Vertigo.

SEGMENT 4

MATCH FEAT: NIGHTHAWK VS. SEEKER

RATING: E+

Nighthawk defeated Seeker in 9:55 by pinfall with a Diving Inverted Bulldog. The crowd went for it, but too bad these two couldn't perform that well. It's always a gamble with Seeker, you never know if he's there to perform well or poor. It's a shame because these two actually have some good chemistry going. Nighthawk got the win after a stinger splashed followed by the diving inverted bulldog.

SEGMENT 5

ANGLE FEAT: HALLOWEEN KNIGHT, NIGHTHAWK

RATING: E+

Halloween Knight came the hell out of no where for the attack! Seriously, I did not see him. He takes out the knee of Nighthawk and immediately goes in to land some punches to the face. Nighthawk seems overwhelmed as Knight demands the bell to be rung.

SEGMENT 6

MATCH FEAT: HALLOWEEN KNIGHT VS. NIGHTHAWK

RATING: D-

Halloween Knight defeated Nighthawk in 12:05 by submission with a Pumpkin Patch. Here we got an impromptu match, which was not advertised at the actual event. It's a pretty short one, and consisted of Knight just beating the hell out of Nighthawk. The end had Knight landing Nighthawk face first with a running bulldog, and finishing him off with the Pumpkin Patch for the tap out.

SEGMENT 7

MATCH FEAT: CYANIDE VS. X-CALIBRE

RATING: E

X-Calibre defeated Cyanide in 8:03 by pinfall with a roll up. During the beginning of the match we had Necromancer run in and attack X-Calibre. X was able to shake away the early attack from Necro as the referee banned him from ringside. These two fought a close match, with Cyanide trying his hardest to make X tap. The finish had X roll out of an armbar, and roll Cyanide up to pin the shoulders for the three.

SEGMENT 8

ANGLE FEAT: JACK AVATAR, WARMONGER

RATING: D+

Jack Avatar walks out to cut a promo on Warmonger who's in the ring ready to give a promo. He tells Warmonger that he'll see him next month at Way of the Jester where he will put his title on the line. He says that he see's something in Warmonger, but he'll have to work harder to become ZEN Master

SEGMENT 9

MATCH FEAT: SWITCHBLADE VS. WARMONGER

RATING: E+

Warmonger defeated Switchblade in 11:02 by pinfall with a Spine Shatterer. This was not a very impressive debut for the newcomer Switchblade. It was just a terrible match which had both men getting in equal offense. That just doesn't look good with a behemoth like Warmonger, who's been on a streak as of late, and a lightweight like Switchblade. The end had Warmonger catch Switchblade off the top rope and drop him with a Spine Shatterer.

SEGMENT 10

ZEN MASTER TITLE MATCH FEAT: HALLOWEEN KNIGHT VS. JACK AVATAR © VS. LONE SHARK VS. NECROMANCER

RATING: D+

Jack Avatar defeated Lone Shark, Necromancer and Halloween Knight in 24:00 after scoring the most falls. It wasn't the best main event, but it did allow the top four names in ZEN to showcase their abilities for a respectable rating. Jack Avatar got the first fall right off the bat in just under two minutes when he rolled up Necro from behind. From there Avatar just had to survive as he went around breaking several pinfall attempts.

The last 30 seconds were intense as everyone fought to get intentionally pinned in order to drag the match into sudden death overtime. The plan failed though as Avatar stayed on top of his game to keep everyone broken up. Avatar hit one final frog splash on a pile of Necro and Knight to close out the match.

SEGMENT 11

ANGLE FEAT: JACK AVATAR, WARMONGER

RATING: D

Jack Avatar goes to celebrate his victory when he's hit from behind by Warmonger. Warmonger throws Avatar into the corner and follows up with a big splash. He throws a right hook, and then throws Avatar in the air with an F-5 to close the show.

ZEN DVD: WAY OF THE JESTER

JUNE 2010.

75 IN ATTENDANCE (EST. 60)

ZEN TEMPLE

COST: $10,100

RATING: D+ (SUCCESS)

<hr color="white">

SEGMENT 1

ANGLE FEAT: JACK AVATAR, SWOOP MCCARTHY

RATING: C-

They start the show off by having ZEN Master Jack Avatar come out to introduce the night's special guest: Swoop McCarthy. Swoop comes out to his usual entrance, complete with his APW music and attire. He poses in the ring as the crowd takes in the historic moment in ZEN. Avatar welcomes Swoop to the show and hands him the mic.

Swoop says it feels good to be in the Temple tonight. He says that he's impressed by the effort shown by ZEN and thinks it's only a matter of time before they are at the top with APW. McCarthy goes on to talk about tonight and how he's set to go against Cyanide. He tells us that he's gonna teach Cyanide a lesson, and hopes that after tonight he can have a permanent spot in ZEN. He goes on to put over the ZEN fans before exiting the ring.

SEGMENT 2

NON-TITLE MATCH FEAT: NECROMANCER VS. X-CALIBRE

RATING: E+

Necromancer defeated X-Calibre in 8:27 by submission with a Death Scream. This opener featured two top tier guys who could be gunning for the ZEN Master in the future. X just needs to work on his stamina so he can actually work a 15 minute match rather than 10. Necro picks up the win here in a pretty close match, choking out X-Calibre with the Death Scream.

SEGMENT 3

MATCH FEAT: HALLOWEEN KNIGHT VS. LONE SHARK.

RATING: C-

Halloween Knight defeated Lone Shark in 14:54 by submission with a Pumpkin Patch. Good chemistry as always between these two, which made the wrestling good and kept the crowd hot. Knight caught Shark coming off the top rope, and turned him over into the Pumpkin Patch. Shark came inches away from a rope break, but Knight pulled him back to the center where he was forced to tap out.

SEGMENT 4

MATCH FEAT: DEVILFISH VS. JESTER

RATING: E

Devilfish defeated Jester in 10:50 by pinfall with a roll up. The crowd seemed ok with this match, after having just sat through a main event quality one. Still, this one didn't quite go down as well as it should have. Devilfish is starting to go stale, it seems, as no one really cares anymore. Jester went for a powerbomb, but Fish reversed it and rolled him up for a quick pin for the three.

SEGMENT 5

ANGLE FEAT: C-W-A

RATING: E-

A video for C-W-A is shown which shows him being drunk and disorderly around the Temple after one of the ZEN events. The video shows him urinating on a fans car and throwing a beer bottle into a crowd of people. The grand finale is the deranged clown puking into the hands of a fan who asked for an autograph. The bottom of the screen then reads: "C-W-A... fan favorite."

SEGMENT 6

MATCH FEAT: CYANIDE VS. SWOOP MCCARTHY

RATING: D

Swoop McCarthy defeated Cyanide in 13:12 by pinfall with a Running Powerslam. This wasn't bad for McCarthy's debut, it just may not have been the right opponent for him as far as style match-ups go. McCarthy stayed in control for most of the match which had him looking strong by the end of it. He hit the big finish which was enough to end the contest.

SEGMENT 7

ANGLE FEAT: HALLOWEEN KNIGHT, JACK AVATAR, NECROMANCER, WARMONGER, X-CALIBRE

RATING: E+

With McCarthy still working the crowd up in the ring, Halloween Knight, Warmonger and Necromancer attack Jack Avatar and X-Calibre backstage. X and Jack tried to defend themselves, but the numbers overwhelmed them. They eventually get them backed into a wall and beat them senseless.

SEGMENT 8

ZEN MASTER TITLE MATCH FEAT: JACK AVATAR © VS. WARMONGER

RATING: C-

Warmonger defeated Jack Avatar in 14:31 when Jack Avatar was counted out after being attacked by Halloween Knight. This was a better night for Warmonger as he was put up against a top level talent and held his own well. They worked on building him up as a strong competitor in this match by having him really bring it to Avatar, who did a good job in selling the backstage attack as well.

The remaining 5 minutes had Avatar make his big come back, but also had Halloween Knight make an appearance at ringside. Warmonger tossed Avatar over the top which allowed Knight to make an attack while Warmonger took a moment to catch his breath. Knight smacked Avatar around a bit and polished it off by hitting Avatar over the head with his own belt. Our nearly blind ref saw nothing, of course, as Warmonger distracted him.

Warmonger allowed the referee to turn back around to make the count as Knight played innocent. Avatar began to move around at the count of 8, but was unable to make it in by the time he reached 10. This was a good match and I think was Warmongers official break into the main event scene.

SEGMENT 9

ANGLE FEAT: THE DARK KNIGHTS, JACK AVATAR, SWOOP MCCARTHY

RATING: D

Warmonger leaves the area, celebrating his tainted victory over the ZEN Master. Halloween Knight sticks around as Swoop McCarthy makes his way out. McCarthy takes the mic and says the whole situation is outrageous. McCarthy wants to set up a main event to make up for the b.s. that just took place. Him and Jack Avatar vs. The Dark Knights. Halloween Knight accepts the challenge and brings out Necromancer to kick off the new main event match.

SEGMENT 10

MATCH FEAT:

RATING: C-

The Dark Knights defeated Swoop McCarthy and Jack Avatar in 24:52. Well, it wasn't a noticeable improvement in quality, but it did give the show a chance to end with a decisive finish. The match stayed even all the way through, with the new pairing of Avatar/McCarthy doing ok as a team. However, in the final moments there would be some mis-communication as Avatar tagged himself in, but got beaten down by both Necromancer and Halloween Knight. McCarthy watched from the side as he shook his head in disappointment. McCarthy looked on as The Dark Knights would go on to put Avatar away with the Black Out double team finisher. Two losses in one night for the ZEN Master, ouch.
