2010 Diary Reader Appreciation

Recommended Posts

<p>OK, I am clearly going about this the wrong way.</p><p> </p><p>

Not sure there is a right way. I know we all have readers that push us to better, or whose comments matter more. Or that invest more time that just highlighting which wrestler will win when they make predictions. Or that one guy you always wanted to stop through and comment, who finally does and it absolutely blows you away that they read your diary and left a comment.</p><p> </p><p>

But I get D-macks point, no writer wants to turn away other readers by calling any one out by name, let alone putting them in categories. Could we more generally agree a general point of thanks to those readers that help build the community up. Whether it be through providing feed back, or actually creating things for the community? or is this just not the right place, and those people really will get enough exposure in each individual thread.</p><p> </p><p>

much thanks for the heads up.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>

-Post of the year-</strong></span></span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

(that one post that stood out, or kept you going, or just turned your diary on a dime. ( I know you know which one I'm talking about))</span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

There are not winners or losers here, but the lists will be ranked by number of times nominated and then alphabetically.</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

I am open to more categories.</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

Writers can leave thier list posted on this page, along with any shout outs they wish to pass along to the general public. Readers are more than welcome to make any comments or nominations they see fit as well.</span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#FFFFFF;">

This is meant in general just to be a giant thank you to the readers. </span><img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

I don't know if I am really a fan of singling out readers. I appreciate anyone who actually takes the time to look at or read my diary, and I have several who have been consistent in following most of them. I feel that if I single out one or two for appreciation then it comes across as I am somehow snubbing the others, when that really isnt the case.

While I am not against giving praise where it is due to people who add to a diary through ideas or content, I prefer to thank those people individually or in the confines of my diary for that rather than try and nominate who I appreciate most when I appreciate all.

Just my .02 cents.

not a problem, this is somthing I suggested 6 months ago along with the must read list, and it got a pretty good reception "in theory" but no one could come up with a good way to run it.

If works, great if it fizzles out and fails, I am deffinetily not going to push it.

I see it as a great way to say thank you to people like Reaper, and FINisher, and Gameface.

- reaper for his belts

- FIN for his Alts

- Gameface is an example of some one who turned out great graphics for Nevermore back in the day.

Those 3 are by no means where it stops, but they are the kind of members that truely step forward, and I think deserve to be recognized by every one for thier contributions.

I get where you are coming from and I agree all those people add tremendously to the TEW Community. Perhaps it was the categories you currently had that cause me some issues, as those seem more like singling out a specific reader of a diary for praise, rather than recognizing readers who add to the community as a whole. The first way feels like snubbing the other readers as anyone who has taken the time to read or comment on a diary has contributed to it, if only in keeping the diary writer motivated to keep producing it.

Perhaps the category for nomination should be , readers who have contributed to the TEW forums community, and then have categories like alts, mods, etc. Or just more generally those who have contributed and let people nominate their top 5 or 10 people, like they did the must read lists.

It an awesome idea, but yeah, tough to have something that works. And it is tough to single out given readers. For one, there might be a lot of "lurker" readers who read loyally every word one writes but who drop actual posts rarely or even not at all. For another, how do you compare someone who makes regular comments with basic positive feedback versus someone who gives feedback rarely, but provides profound feedback when they do? Its tough!

I've even struggled to do things within my own projects to "thank" the readers. All I've really come up with his giving some type of prize for getting PPV predictions right - pick a match, pick an interview segment, etc. Maybe the winner won't care, maybe it will be an awesome little prize for them. But its something. Beyond that, I've struggled to think of anything.

I tried letting them write an article for the in diary newsletter. the first one went over well. the second person was a big thanks but no thanks. :p

Yeah, actually turning a reader into a contributor is an awesome idea, but its going to depend heavily on the person. I ended up asking a regular reader to contribute to my Generation Supreme diary, and they did The Supreme View. It was awesome, but I would hesitate to do it again. I doubt it would work out nearly so well and it just feels... odd to be asking someone else to contribute their time and effort towards my project. Its why I've always been so thankful when getting people to do alts or belts or such.

Some readers are going to prefer to be readers, rather than any sort of interactive part of the project. Others will love the idea of contributing. Tough to know unless you ask.
