Anderson Silva, the current UFC Middleweight Champion and one considered to be the best pound for pound fighter in the world, for yet another fight would showboat, bully and not finish challenger Demian Maia. The sold out would boo Silva, who retained his title in a unanimous decision. White, disgusted with the display would leave after the 4th round, the first time he ever left a main event fight and never presented the champion his title belt. Silva would then claim he was not sorry for the fight, claiming "fights sometime don't end the way you want". Silva's presser would continue to anger White. Plans of a GSP/Silva match was scrapped. Alot of talk would surface days after the fight of Silva possibly leaving the UFC and his manager Ed Soraes being at major odds with White following both men's press conference.</p><p> </p><p> White wanted to regain fans who had possibly lost faith in the UFC as a result of the Silva match. Following the fight, White now had 2...actually 3 major issues on his plate. Firstly, the obvious Silva issue. However, UFC 112 also presented another major controversy in Frankie Edgar's shocking title win over a less than 100% BJ Penn, which caused quite a stir as almost unamiously through fans, experts and major MMA news sources world wide all gave the fight to Penn, who would lose it in a decision. To further the issue, judge Douglas Crosby would go on to openly mock BJ Penn and Penn fans on several major MMA message boards. The other issue would be the situation concerning the ending of TUF with Tito Ortiz eventually exiting the show.

 

That Tuesday however, White would begin righting some of the wrongs from UFC 112.

UFC 115 Main Event Offically Announced, Now Liddell vs. Franklin

 

-Alot of notes from UFC's presser on UFC 115.

 

-Firstly was the major announcement of the main event offically changing from TUF's coaches battle of Chuck Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz, to Liddell vs. Rich Franklin. We reported several weeks ago that this fight was in the making following "changes" in this season's TUF. It appears as though Ortiz indeed leaves the show and is replaced by Franklin. Liddell, Ortiz, Franklin and White all clarified they knew this was to happen on their Twitter accounts. This also effectivly ends talks of Liddell/Couture 4 and Couture/Franklin fight's potentially happening at UFC 116.

 

-The full card was announced, including Jon Fitch vs. Thiago Alves which was postponded due to Alves' brain issue, found days before UFC 111. Alves has been approved to fight by both his doctor and the British Columbia Athletic Commission.

 

-White did make a major announcement that as a result of UFC 112, UFC 117 in Boston will feature a rematch for the Lightweight title as champion Frankie Edgar will defend against BJ Penn and Kenny Florian will face Gray Maynard to determine who will recieve the next shot at whoever the Lightweight champion is.

 

-White also announced that due to his actions following UFC 112, Douglas Crosby would no longer be used as a judge by the UFC.

 

-When asked about Anderson Silva, White claimed "He's still dealing with his next move with Silva is".

 

-White also plugged WEC's first venture into PPV heavily, claimed he's got "an idea" when it comes to James Toney, hinted at a major announcement in the coming weeks, and praised the success of UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi and UFC in general in the Middle East.

UFC News and Rumors

 

-Word is that the NY State Senate will be announcing a formal bill to legalize MMA in New York later this week. More on this HERE.

 

-We've been told that a string of releases may soon take place, mostly lesser used talents. Names already being thrown around include Heath Herring and Elvis Sinosic.

 

-There's a buzz that UFC 116 may feature a second main event to go along with Brock Lesnar/Shane Carwin. A strong possibility continues to be a GSP/Silva bout.

Following the usual preshow videos, we go to a sold out Bell Centre where Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan are standing by to welcome us. After a small bit of hyping the show, we go down to the Octagon for our first bout of the night.

Round 1

The crowd is hot for this one off the bat and these 2 begin throwing hard punches off the bat. Simpson would land a double leg takedown and began to ground and pound Côté but Côté would stay with it and do a great job of blocking while on his back. Simpson 30-28

 

Round 2

Talk about the tide changing. Simpson would go for another takedown but Côté would deliver 2 excelent sprawls and then would strike with a vicious left to the chin of Simpson which clearly hurt him. Côté would ten open up on Simpson, hitting him with several jabs until he nailed him with a left to the head. Simpson went down and Côté would nail him with several more punches before referee Dan Miragliotta called for the bell.

Backstage we go where we see Shogun Rua getting ready for the night's main event. Goldberg and Rogan hype texting who will win the Light Heavyweight Title fight. Hype video for our next contest.

One and done. After some initial feeling each other out, the 2 heavy handed brawlers began to swing away and Kimbo would then level Mitrione with a hard right as Mitrione attempted a left hook. Mitrione's legs would buckle and fall out immedietly. Referee Yves Levine called for the bell.

Post fight, Rogan would interview Kimbo, who claimed his ground game was vastly improving and was kinda sad he didn't get to show it off tonight. He said that this win should have more people take him seriously. We then see Montreal's own Georges St. Pierre in the crowd, which would get a huge reaction. Another backstage shot, this time of Lyoto Machida preping for his fight. We now go to our first replayed prelim bout.

Round 1

 

The 2 would begin to feel each other out with jabs and leg kicks. Davis would go for a big left to the ribs of Goulet, who would clinch up on Davis. Davis would then plant Goulet on his with a takedown and deliver a series of punches on Goulet's head and ribs. As Goulet clutched Davis's head, Davis leveled him with an hammer fist, and in the process losening up Goulet's right arm. Davis would go for a kimura and after a brief struggle, would lock it on for the victory.

Round 1

 

These two young lions of the lightweight division started with a hell of a slugfest with Stephens eventually taking control with a well placed clinch. Stephens took Stout down and worked him over on the half guard. Stout did a OK job at blocking up and not taking alot of damage but by round's end seemed somewhat overwhelmed by Stephens. Stephens 30-27

 

Round 2

 

Stephens came out the aggressor, pelting Stout with low kicks and jabs early on. The 2 would soon engage, resulting with again Stephens taking down Stout again. Stout was opened up as Stephens threw down a flurry of punches on Stout, who yet again was able to absorb alot of the damage. Another very strong round for Stephens who looks to be on his way to a decision. Stephens 30-27

 

Round 3

 

Stephens again comes out the aggressor early on but Stout comes roaring back, ducking a high kick by Stephens and nailing him with a big left. Stout then pounced on a surprised Stephens, clinching up and nailing him with on point knees and punches. Stephens was now busted open. Stout was now the aggressor, peppering Stephens with punches. Stout then leveled Stephens with a huge Superman punch, who fell down to the mat. Stout then jumped onto the fallen Stephens and nailed him with a few more punches until referee Dan Miragliotta called for the bell. What a comeback by Stout!

 

Winner by TKO at 3:31 of Round Three:"Hands Of Stone" Sam Stout

 

Post fight interview by Rogan, Stout claimed Stephens was the hardest fight he's had in the UFC. He also claimed that this fight was what the young lightweights were all about. He was glad to pull out a win infront of his home country and hopes for a shot against fellow Canadian GSP.
