The Black Serpent Cult?

Mark "Cobra" Brandt and his twin brother Matt, aka Viper, form the Black Serpent Cult. They began wrestling professionally in 1966, at the age of 21 (they're now 31), and have wrestled across the world. They have always fought as a tag team, although their styles have diverged slightly. Cobra is a mat-based wrestler while Viper has adopted more of a Japanese strong-style approach. In fact, the duo found their greatest success in Japan, having won the BHOTWG Burning Japanese Tag Team titles, one of few gaijin teams achieving that honor. The also held the CPW titles for an amazing three years, from 1972-1975, and recently defeated the Texas Outlaws for the TWL Tag Team straps. Whether or not they last long in TWL is yet to be seen, but they've certainly made an impact here in a very short amount of time.

OOC: I am headed to a conference tomorrow morning and will not be updating until probably Sunday at the earliest. Fear not, I won't rest until the vile Professor Nero and the egomaniacal Rip Chord get their comeuppance from our heroes!

'Perfect’ Pat Deacon and Major W.G. Reginald III came out to the ring, Deacon carrying a microphone and sporting a butterfly bandage on his forehead, apparently to close the wound inflicted by Professor Nero’s cane at Texas Two Step. “Professor Mycroft Nero,” he began, his southern drawl like poured honey, “at Texas Two Step, you took my towel and took my blood. Only a sick freak like you would take pleasure in that. Now I’m not even gonna try to figure out what’s inside that twisted head of yours, but know this. Tonight I have a TWL Title Match against Rip Chord,” the crowd exploded at this announcement, “and you better keep your nose out. If you so much as breathe on me tonight, there will be hell to pay.” Deacon threw his microphone down and, accompanied by Major Reginald, returned backstage.

Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman/Texas Outlaw/Team Texas (Archie ‘The Governor’ Judge/Lone Star Stampeder) v. The Disciples of Evilness (Professor Nero/Lords of War/TimberWolf)

Billy’s Take: This was a war. Despite the absence of Mean Mark Green and Trailer Park Kid from the Outlaws tonight, there was plenty of bad blood in the ring. As usual, F-Bomb stood out for his aggressive attacks, stomping necks, punching throats, and flipping middle fingers at everyone. His style meshed well with that of the Outlaw, who worked a more methodical, ground-based attack, and Team Texas, who preferred a slower, if still hard-hitting, attack. Similarly, the Disciples of Evilness played their roles well. TimberWolf took to the sky, flying around the ring, while the Lords of War provided brute strength and several impressive double-team moves. But Professor Nero stood out on his squad, both for his sadism and terrifying mannerisms. In the end, with Bowman and Nero battling wildly outside the ring, Archie Judge fell prey to a War Machine from the Lords of War, giving the win to the Disciples.

No Holds Barred: The Executioner v. Rampage w/Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: Rampage demonstrated why he is generally considered the king of the No Holds Barred match in TWL. He gave and received tremendous punishment before using Nero’s cane to bash the Executioner across the forehead. As blood seeped through the yellow and black mask, Rampage unnecessarily locked in the Silent Death for the submission victory.

Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman, Mean Mark Green, the Trailer Park Kid, and the Texas Outlaw came out to the ring. Mean Mark took the microphone first. “Disciples of Evilness,” he calmly drawled, “we ain’t done with y’all yet. I got a bone to pick with you Nero and a long-ass memory. I won’t never forget. But the task at hand ain’t the Disciples of Evilness. It’s the damned Black Serpent Cult. Ya’ see, I dunno if Nero hired y’all or if y’all came of your own accord. But I do know this. I’m gonna ride you outta town on a rail. Mark my damned words, tonight Black Serpent Cult we’ll take our belts back. Outlaw style.” After offering the microphone to Trailer Park Kid and Texas Outlaw, and with both shaking it off, F-Bomb took the mic, electrifying the crowd. “Black mother****in’ Snakes! I swear on my mother’s dead soul that tonight my boys are gonna beat the ever-living **** out of you and send you right the **** back to wherever the **** you came from!” Spit rained on the microphone and, probably, the first several rows of the crowd. “Tonight we do it Outlaw style and then maybe try some other ****in’ styles on your ****in’ mothers!” Bowman tossed the mic down and the Outlaws prepared for the champions to enter the ring. <O:pTexas Tornado Mayhem: TWL Tag Team Championship:

Texas Outlaws (Mean Mark Green/Trailer Park Kid) w/Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman v. Black Serpent Cult (Cobra/Viper)©

Billy’s Take:The rules of the Texas Tornado Mayhem match are pretty simple. Both partners are always legal, so all four men are allowed to be in the ring at once. A team is not eliminated until both partners have been pinned, submitted, disqualified, or counted out. Once a team member loses, they are allowed to stay at ringside, but may not score pinfalls.

As is the case with most Texas Tornado Mayhem matches, there were very few scientific wrestling moves used in this one. TPK immediately bolted after Viper, the man who threw the fireball in his face at Texas Two Step. Although his head was still heavily bandaged, he refused to back down, pummeling Viper until Viper could slither under the bottom rope and out of the ring. Mean Mark was similarly aggressive in attacking Cobra, hitting him with a huge discus punch that looked especially brutal. It appeared as though the titles were headed back to the Outlaws as they set up Cobra for the Nowhere to Run. But then Cobra suddenly collapsed to the mat. Surprised and fearing for his medical safety, I dropped to my knees beside him, only to see a bright flash of light behind me, Mean Mark Green writhing on the ground holding his face, and Viper hitting Trailer Park Kid with a Snakebite Roundhouse Kick. Cobra, suddenly revived, slithered over on top of TPK and pinned him for the win. After the match, Viper and Cobra went to the corner for their wriggling burlap sack. Fortunately the duo simply decided to each reach in the bag, apparently petting their snake, before slinking to the backstage area, their titles still intact.

TWL Championship: ‘Perfect’ Pat Deacon w/Major W.G. Reginald III v. Rip Chord © w/Mayhem Midden

Billy’s Take: The crowd was electrified for this match, sitting on the edge of their seats and anticipating a possible title change. Pat Deacon, the former TWL champion, entered first, seconded by Major Reginald, carrying a new white towel to ringside. Deacon stretched briefly as Rip Chord, seconded by Mayhem Midden, made his way to the ring, taunting fans seated at ringside. Inside the ring these two, as usual, put on a clinic. They kept pace hold for hold, counterhold for counterhold, for over twenty minutes and the crowd ate it up. Deacon actually looked like he had the title won after hitting a Deacon Driver, but Rip managed to stretch a foot to the ropes at 2 to break the pinfall. Similarly, Rip looked like he would cleanly retain the title after hitting a brutal Rip Chord DDT on Deacon, but Perfect Pat was also too close the ropes and grasped them in desperation at 2. As the two jockeyed for position, suddenly Professor Nero ran down to ringside. He climbed on the ring apron and, as Deacon lifted Chord in position for the Deacon Driver, smashed the challenger squarely across the face with his ever-present cane! Deacon crumpled to the mat and I had to unfortunately call for the bell, awarding Deacon the match, but not the title, thanks to Nero’s interference.

Apparently pleased with himself, Professor Nero left the ring, still clutching his ‘prized treasures’ – a tin star, crumpled pack of cigarettes, and towel caked with dried blood. Seeing his nemesis’ lifeless body, Rip Chord stomped on Deacon’s head, Mayhem Midden quickly joining him. Major W.G. Reginald III, witnessing this display, wisely split to the back. But it was not cowardice that drove Major, but valor as he quickly returned with Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan and Johnny Boy Tucker in tow, both in street clothes. Tucker immediately went after Rip while Krogan charged Midden. Tucker hit a Power Lariat on the champ that sent Rip over the top rope and out of the ring while Krogan pushed Mayhem through the middle ropes and out. The two checked on Deacon while Rip and Mayhem retreated and paramedics arrived on the scene.

the Texas Outlaws?

The Texas Outlaws, as described earlier, formed in 1969 as a heel stable led by the Masked Outlaw (Jackson Andrews). Original members included Floyd 'F-Bomb' Bowman and Mean Mark Green. Green and Bowman held the Tag Team Titles for a remarkable 37 months between October 1970 and November 1973, making 50 successful title defenses before losing the belts to Chief Two Eagles and Rick Rumble. The duo regained the titles in March 1974, but lost them that September to Derek Barnes and the Nightrider (the Motorheads).

When Jackson Andrews left in 1973, the Outlaws included only two members, Bowman and Green. In 1974, the Outlaws added a fourth member, Mikey Montana. Montana, who goes by the name Trailer Park Kid in TWL, filled in for Floyd Bowman after Bowman rolled his truck on the way to a show in Oklahoma. Soon after, the Trailer Park Kid officially became a Texas Outlaw.

Austin McCoy debuted in TWL in 1960 and bounced around for several years before defecting to the SWF, following then-TWL co-owner Rocky Streets. After the SWF fired him in November 1974, following a run with the SWF United States Title, McCoy re-emerged in TWL and was introduced as the fourth member of the Texas Outlaws in late 1974.

With McCoy retiring from active competition, the Texas Outlaw appeared, but the mixed crowd reaction to the imposter Outlaw makes me wonder how long the Outlaws will run with the current four members. One thing is certain, the Outlaw are here to stay.

Texas Outlaws (Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman/Mean Mark Green/Texas Outlaw) v. Border Runners (Pavel Landis/Carlos Reyes/Luis Reyes)

Billy’s Take: The Border Runners came out first, and the crowd booed them, as befitting a collection of illegal immigrants. Contrarily, the crowd loved the Texas Outlaws, even cheering the somewhat maligned Texas Outlaw. Inside the ring, this was a contrast in styles. The Border Runners played a game of cat and mouse, constantly tagging in and out and escaping outside the ring rather than stand toe-to-toe against the imposing Outlaws. In the end, however, the Border Runners couldn’t escape the inevitable and Pavel Landis fell prey to the Nowhere to Run, executed by Bowman and Green, while the Texas Outlaw attacked the Reyes Brothers outside the ring.

After the match, Mean Mark Green took the microphone. “Black Serpent Cult,” he began in his deep baritone voice. “We want our belts back. Plain and simple as that. No need for me to shout or plead. We’re tired to fireballs to the face, tired of backstabbing tricks, and tired of that little snake in a bag routine you got goin’. How bout at Showdown you and us figure this out like men. Inside a steel cage!” At that, the Black Serpent Cult emerged from the back, sliding to the ring. “So, Mean Mark Green,” Cobra hissed into the microphone. “You think you can tell us when to defend our belts? You haven’t taken enough beatings? You haven’t already had two shots…and lost both?” He laughed a harsh little laugh, more like a giant python crushing a small rodent than an actual sound of mirth. “I don’t believe you’re in line for that shot. So no. No, you may not have a shot at Showdown,” excessively hissing the ‘S’ sound in Showdown so that it sounded like Ssssssshowdown. Bowman took the mic as the crowd roared in approval. “Listen here you ****in’ freak show. Far as I’m concerned you can blow ****in’ fireballs out of your ****in’ ***es when you’re in the ring with someone ****in’ else. But you ain’t pullin’ that bull**** with the ***-damned Texas Outlaws! You even try to shoot a ****in’ fireball at me and I’ll drive my boot so far up your ****in’ *** you’ll be spittin’ boiled shoe leather for a ****in’ week!”Mean Mark took the microphone back. “Black Serpent Cult, this ain’t over. We’ll get our rematch, and when we do we’ll take back our belts.” C

Tag Team Title Match: Team Texas (Archie ‘The Governor’ Judge/The Lone Star Stampeder) v. Black Serpent Cult (Cobra/Viper)©

Billy’s Take: Unfortunately, Team Texas didn’t have much of a chance here. Although they put up quite a fight – neither Archie nor Stampeder is a quitter – the Black Serpent Cult were bigger, stronger, faster, and more experienced as a team. After Cobra hit the Solid Snake Stunner on Archie, he could easily have scored the pinfall. But apparently that wasn’t enough and he roughly grabbed hold of my shirt. As I tried to push him away, I saw the tell-tale flash of light and Archie Judge writhing on the ground in pain. If I EVER actually see that fireball being thrown, I’m disqualifying the Cult…but they’re tricky bastards! Viper nonchalantly covered Archie for the 1…2…3. After the match, Cobra viciously attacked the Lone Star Stampeder while Viper slithered over to the corner containing the team’s trademark wriggling burlap sack. Viper pulled a huge snake out of the bag as the crowd gasped. Viper whispered to the snake, dangling it over the lifeless body of Archie Judge. Viper whispered something else to the snake, laughed a hissing laugh, and put the snake right back inside the bag, slinging it over his shoulder before the champs escaped to the back.

Billy’s Take: Larry Vessey is pretty green and the Trailer Park Kid isn’t much more seasoned. The Trailer Park Kid finished this one off in about six minutes with his patented Double-Wide Dive crossbody off the top rope in a decent, if unspectacular, match.

Chief Two Eagles v. The Shaman

Billy’s Take: So Chief Two Eagles’ mystery opponent turned out to be AAWF star The Shaman. Shaman entered the ring first, uttering some voodoo chant, gyrating his body, and rolling his eyes back into his head. By contrast, Chief came to the ring seemingly in complete control of his mental faculties, slapping hands with fans at ringside and handing his trademark eagle feather to a young man sitting beside the ring. Inside the ring, this was a very even contest, with the insane herky-jerky movements of The Shaman countered by the smooth moves of Chief Two Eagles. Chief went up to the second rope for his Tomahawk Chop, but The Shaman had the move well-scouted, rolling aside at the last moment and hitting the Peyote Plunge on the Chief. With the match seemingly in hand, The Shaman took a short trip around the ring, gyrating wildly, before flopping on Chief. Chief was apparently playing possum, and rolled up the Shaman into a tight small-package for the quick flash victory.

After the match, The Shaman suddenly sat bolt upright on the mat. Turning his head slowly to the left, he nodded slightly. Apparently this was a sign for the Black Serpent Cult to run to the ring and attack Chief Two Eagles. Viper hit his Snakebite Roundhouse Kick on the exhausted Chief and Cobra followed it up with the Solid Snake Stunner, leaving Chief Two Eagles sprawled on the mat. Finally, The Shaman picked up Chief Two Eagles and connected with his finishing move, the Peyote Plunge. Apparently satisfied, the trio slunk off to the back amidst a chorus of boos. C+

Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan/‘American Made’ Johnny Boy Tucker/‘Perfect’ Pat Deacon w/Shannon and Major W.G. Reginald III v. Rip Chord/Mayhem Midden/Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: The crowd was hot for this match, despite the fact that some of these men are not incredibly well-known in the Midwest. Tucker, Krogan, and Deacon came out to the ring first. Shannon held Tucker’s hand and followed Major Reginald enthusiastically waving his white towel over his panama-hatted-head. Deacon rubbed his wrists incessantly while Krogan’s stride was purposeful and his stare focused on the ring. The heels came out second and the crowd hissed. Chord and Midden marched ahead, confident and c*cky as ever, while Nero slunk along behind, as if even Rip and Mayhem didn’t want to associate with the Intelligent Monster. Inside the ring, this was a brawl and I had a difficult time controlling the participants. At one point the action spilled outside the ring and I was able to herd the wrestlers (barely) back inside. For the most part the men paired off – Krogan and Tucker battling Rip and Mayhem while Deacon chased Nero. For a second time the wrestlers battled on the floor and I began a long count, reaching 10 before they could reenter and I called for the bell, ending this match in a double countout.

In the midst of the ensuing madness, ‘Perfect’ Pat Deacon grabbed the house mic. “Nero,” he began, causing all the combatants to suddenly stop and turn to look at him, “this ain’t even close to over. You and me got a date with destiny. At Showdown, I want to take a piece outta your hide. At Showdown, just you and me you sick freak. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.” Major Reginald tossed Deacon a fresh white towel, which he waved enthusiastically over his head as the crowd roared its approval. B+

Exciting news in our household. Mrs. Referee Billy is pregnant! Our new addition is due in January, and we’ve already bought a baby name guide to guide us in picking a name. If it is a girl, my wife likes the name Annie while I prefer Margaret. For a boy, my wife likes Thomas, after her father, while I prefer William after, well, me. We’ll see I suppose, whatever we’re guided to do. Off to smoke a cigar our next-door neighbors…apparently they are pregnant as well and are already scouting out names too. Must be something in the water ‘round here.

Chief Two Eagles/Mean Mark Green/Trailer Park Kid v. The Shaman/Black Serpent Cult (Cobra/Viper)

Billy’s Take: Chief Two Eagles and the two members of the Texas Outlaws came out first, Chief slapping hands with children at ringside and Green and the Trailer Park Kid more focused on the upcoming match. The Shaman and the Black Serpent Cult came out next, the Shaman gyrating wildly and the Serpents slinking down to the ring carrying their ever-present writhing rucksack. Once the match started, it was a passionate brawl, with neither side willing to back down. The Shaman was intent on gaining revenge on Chief while the Serpents and Outlaws definitely have a history. As Chief Two Eagles went to the second rope for his patented Tomahawk Chop on the Shaman, Cobra slid to the corner of the ring and threw the burlap sack open, revealing a long wriggling snake! I immediately called for the bell, disqualifying the team of Shaman and the Serpents, as Chief and the Outlaws (and I) retreated to the floor.

“This ain’t over,” Mean Mark Green spoke into a microphone he grabbed from ringside. “Black Serpent Cult, we still want our rematch…in a cage at Showdown!” It appeared as if the Cult would once again rebuff their challenge, but this time The Shaman whispered something in Cobra’s ear that apparently made him change his mind. “Ok,” Cobra said simply, “you can have your rematch.” He turned to walk away, then thought better of it. “If,” he hissed into the microphone, “Sssshaman getssss Chief Two Eaglesssss…in an Indian Deathmatch!” Chief Two Eagles nodded vigorously. “It’s a damned deal,” Green responded, “at Showdown we’ll take back our titles…” Chief took the microphone, pointing at The Shaman, “and I send you right back to hell!” C-

Archie ‘The Governor’ Judge came out to the ring holding a microphone and a slip of paper. “It don’t make me glad to do this, but Carlos and Luis Reyes, I got somethin’ to tell y’all.” The Reyes’ came out, looking somewhat apprehensive. “It’s the right thang to do,” Archie stammered, “but, like I said, it ain’t my style to put out no one. Ya’ see, Pavel Landis. Well, he ain’t Mexican!” The Reyes’ appeared shocked. “He ain’t from Mexico at all…he’s German!” The Reyes’ left the ring, busily talking to one another and not even giving Pavel Landis a glance as he walked down to the ring to fight Archie in the next match. Archie ‘The Governor’ Judge v. Pavel Landis

Billy’s Take: I’m not sure whether Stampy intended this to initiate a turn for Pavel (or get rid of him…the crowd HATES him) or to showcase Archie. In either case, Archie dominated this short match and easily won over the distracted Landis with the Martial Law hangman’s neckbreaker.

Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman/‘Perfect’ Pat Deacon w/Major W.G. Reginald III v. Lords of War (Warlord Agony/Warlord Pain) w/Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: Deacon and Reginald came to the ring first, now both waving white towels above their heads to fire up the crowd. Bowman trailed behind them, flipping the crowd double-bird middle fingers which they ate up. The Lords of War, accompanied by Professor Nero, came out next, Nero leading his docile charges as if by an invisible cord. The match was what you would expect, both from the competitors and TWL in general, an all-out brawl. Each wrestler hit their signature spots – Deacon locked Agony in a Crossface Chickenwing, Bowman hit the Salute ‘n Boot and his trademark corner neck punch/middle finger flips, and the Lords of War connected with a huge War Machine, which would have ended the match had Deacon not broken the pinfall attempt on Bowman. In an interesting twist, Nero interfered in the match when the Lords of War had the match in their favor, sliding in and smacking Deacon squarely across the shoulderblades to earn the DQ. Nero continued the assault, grinning like the Cheshire cat, as the Lords of War held off the whirling curseword-flinging Bowman and Major Reginald.

As Pat Deacon, Major Reginald, and Floyd Bowman limped backstage, Professor Nero grabbed a microphone. The Lords of War stood stock-still, their eyes glazed over, as Nero began his rant. “Perfection Personified, Perfect Pat, Pat and the cat and the rat and the bat and the hat. Major Reginald’s hat is white,” he started in a sing-song, high-pitched cackle. Suddenly his demeanor changed, his expression hardened, and his voice deepened. “Pat Deacon, you told me that you wanted me in the ring. At Showdown, you got it. Just me and you…and the demons.” C+

Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan v. Mayhem Midden

Billy’s Take: This was a no-nonsense, take no prisoners brawl. Neither man came to the ring with their typical seconds – apparently Tucker and Rip stayed in the back to prep for the main event – putting even more emphasis on the in-ring brutality. Finally after 12 minutes of stiff back-and-forth, Krogan flipped Mayhem over when Midden attempted a piledriver and hit him with a vicious Power Lariat for the 3 count.

TWL Title Match: Johnny Boy Tucker w/Mark Krogan and Shannon v. Rip Chord © w/Mayhem Midden

Billy’s Take: The crowd was hot for this match, a relatively rare title defense from Rip. Tucker came out first, seconded as always by his mentor Mark Krogan and his love interest the beautiful Shannon. Rip came out with his second, Mayhem Midden, as the crowd booed its disapproval. Rip simply motioned at the title belt around his waist as he sauntered to the ring. This match was an open affair, with Tucker getting in more offense than most against the wily champion. But Rip Chord’s experience was just too much and the champion ended it with a Rip Chord DDT for the win.

After the match, Rip Chord turned to walk out of the ring and then, apparently thinking better of it, grabbed the house microphone and turned to face the fallen Johnny Boy Tucker. “Johnny Boy Tucker,” Rip began, “Rip told you nicely last time to back off, to walk away, to make like a tree and cut bait. Rip was pleasant about it...Rip’s seen plenty of hungry guys like you, wanting to take Rip’s spot. Well you had your chance Johnny Boy. You shoulda walked away. ‘Cuz this time, you may not walk again!” Rip punctuated the last phrase with a boot to the head of Tucker. Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan charged like a bull into the ring, but was intercepted by Mayhem Midden. As the two behemoths battled, Rip put the boots to Tucker, who instinctively curled into the fetal position as Rip pummeled away. After a several minute long beating, Rip apparently tired of the attack and signaled to Mayhem to leave. Mayhem and Rip backed down the aisle as Shannon slid into the ring to check on Tucker and an enraged Krogan grabbed the mic. Krogan began, his gravelly voice even hoarser after the battle with Midden. “At Showdown I want my shot. Just you and me Rip. Just like old times. I swear to God that you won’t do to me what you did to Johnny Boy. I swear to God Rip!” Rip backed away laughing and shaking his head ‘no’. “Rip!” Krogan pled, “how ‘bout this. Loser leaves town. You win? I leave. I win? You get your ass outta town!” Rip, weighing the possibilities of life without Krogan, found another mic at the entrance to the locker room. “Know what Krogan?” he said, “Rip Chord likes that deal…he likes it a lot! Ok. It’s a deal. Next month Mark Krogan leaves the TWL courtesy of THE Rip Chord!” C-

As the crowd filed out, Kurt Berkely announced the card for one of TWL’s supershows, Showdown, to be held in just two weeks.

Who is...

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/JohnnyBoyTucker.jpg

Johnny Boy Tucker?

'American Made' Johnny Boy Tucker is a 21-year old heavyweight wrestler from Tennessee. In 1975, Mark 'The Lariat' Krogan began searching for a protege, a man who he could groom into the next 'Legend of the South.' After a short search, he appears to have decided on Tucker. Tucker, although not as talented in the ring as some of his peers, has undeniable star power and ring presence and big things are expected of the youngster. Thus far, Tucker's only title victory was a short-lived run with the AAFW tag team belts (partnering, of course, with Krogan) but he and the Lariat are never far from the title scene.

Tucker was part of a much-publicized relationship snafu in CCW as one of three men dating Misty Winters simultaneously (along with Romeo Hearthrob and Rudolph Gray), but otherwise has kept his nose clean outside the ring.

As are most matches in TWL, this one was an all-out brawl. Midden repeatedly went for his finisher, the piledriver, but each time Tucker managed a reversal. Once it was backdropping Midden, another time dropping to his knees to prevent Midden from picking him up. Each time Mayhem grew visibly more upset. After about ten minutes of back and forth, Midden went for a pinfall near the ropes. As I was told later, Rip Chord grabbed Tucker’s ankles to keep him from kicking out, allowing Midden to take the cheap win. </p><p> After the match, an incensed Tucker took off after Midden, but Rip and Mayhem hightailed it to the back to avoid the pissed off youngster.</p><p> <strong>Mayhem Midden d. Inside the squared circle, the teams were evenly matched – much more so than when the BSC could use their writhing burlap sack as a distraction. This time they stowed the bagged snake just outside the cage door. Mean Mark and Trailer Park Kid have very similar styles which meshed well with the Cult. The Outlaws are straight forward brawlers while the Cult likes to play mind games. The frustrated Outlaws chased the Cult around the inside of the cage, but it was like grabbing smoke – they could never get a solid grasp on the opponents. The Black Serpent Cult took advantage of a momentarily lapse and nearly destroyed TPK with a sick-looking clothesline/leg sweep combo that netted them a two count. Green responded with an Outlaw Driver on Cobra, but Viper broke up the pinfall. In the end, Cobra hit the Solid Snake Stunner on TPK while Viper ate an Outlaw Driver from Mark Green. Unfortunately for the Outlaws, Cobra slithered over and covered TPK slightly quicker than Green could pin the slippery Viper, forcing me to count to 3 in favor of the Black Serpent Cult.</p><p> <strong>Black Serpent Cult d. The Shaman</strong></p><p> <em>Billy’s Take: </em>The rules of this match are simple, like boxing, as the loser is the man unable to answer a ten count. The Shaman came out first, gyrating wildly. Chief Two Eagles, contrarily, had a huge smile on his face and slapped hands with fans at ringside, hugging one little boy carrying a sign that read <span style="color:#7030a0;">“I’m with the Chief, He can’t be beat”</span> and handing another his trademark eagle feather. Inside the ring, however, he showed no such warmth, savagely attacking the Shaman. The Shaman dished out punishment as well, hitting Chief Two Eagles with a variety of ‘Oriental-type’ moves (chops, kicks, and the like). The Shaman looked to have the match won after hitting the Peyote Plunge on Chief. He seemed so sure, in fact, that he climbed to the top turnbuckle, apparently confident in victory. But Chief pulled himself to the ropes and to his feet right before I counted ‘ten’ and the match continued. Shaman again hit the Peyote Plunge and again went to the ropes. This time, after rising at eight, Chief Two Eagles snuck up behind the Shaman and hit him with a giant backdrop from the second rope! He sat down in a corner with his trinkets – the tarnished tin star once belonging to Lone Star Stampeder, the pack of cigarettes formerly of the Trailer Park Kid, and a blood-caked towel once carried by Pat Deacon – and began rocking slowly back and forth, awaiting the arrival of his opponent. Deacon entered, as always, waving his trademark towel and seconded by Major Reginald, also towel-waving. Deacon wasted no time attacking Nero, who instinctively curled into the fetal position protecting his prized possessions. Then, just as instinctively, Nero lashed out and gouged Deacon right in the eye. The so-called ‘Intelligent Monster’ then brutalized Perfect Pat, using all methods of attack, ranging from the legal headlocks and headbutts to illegal chokeholds and eye pokes to control his opponent. Deacon launched a comeback, but Nero derailed it with another rake to the eyes. Deacon then took control of the match after powering his way out of a chinlock, bouncing off the ropes and connecting with a running elbow to the temple of Nero. Nero, seeing the tide turn against him, waved to the back, bringing out <strong>Warlord Agony </strong>and <strong>Warlord Pain</strong>, the <strong>Lords of War</strong>! Back-and-forth the match went, the crowd rising and falling with each chinlock and bodyslam. Krogan dominated the early part of the match, but it seemed like Rip’s strategy was to wait out Krogan’s attacks and use his superior stamina in his favor. But Krogan never seemed to tire, frustrating the champion. Mayhem Midden jumped up on the ring apron and I nearly called for the bell, but Rip furiously shook him off, motioning that he was going to take out Krogan on his own. The momentary distraction allowed Krogan to hit the Power Lariat for the 1…2…no! Rip kicked out of the Power Lariat, although just barely. Krogan again controlled the match, working Rip over. But Rip was resilient, refusing to give up or remain on the mat long enough to be pinned. Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman/‘American Made’ Johnny Boy Tucker w/Shannon v. Rampage/TimberWolf w/Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: The Disciples of Evilness came out first, flanked by their leader Professor Nero. As they stood inside the ring awaiting their opponents, Rampage rubbed at his neck and TimberWolf scratched behind his ears. Filthy habits. For his part, Nero seemed rather lost without his trinkets and treasures. He must’ve left them in the back. Bowman and Tucker came out next, the latter holding Shannon’s hand down the ramp. Tucker seemed to be in a daze, somewhat adrift without his mentor Mark Krogan. Shannon kept whispering in his ear, but his face never changed or gave any indication of what she was saying. Bowman flipped off the crowd, showing off both middle fingers to fans at ringside. They ate it up. Inside the ring, TimberWolf and Bowman did most of the work, Bowman beating and trouncing TimberWolf like, well, like a dog. Bowman tagged Tucker in, but he seemed to simply go through the motions and a hot-tagged Rampage worked him over. Bowman had to tag himself back in, giving Tucker a nasty look, and took care of both Rampage and TimberWolf. In the end, it was TimberWolf eating a running boot from Bowman, his Salute ‘n Boot finisher, to gain the three count.

Pavel Landis came out to the ring, microphone in hand. “I’ve got somethin’ to say,” he began, all traces of his faux Mexican accent disappeared, replaced by a slight German lilt. “I’m a liar, a fraud, and a cheat. I used Carlos Reyes just like I used all of you. And I’m sorry for that.” The crowd responded lukewarmly. After all, they still think he sucks in the ring. “I know I don’t deserve it, but I’d like another chance. What I need tonight is a tag team partner, ‘cuz the Reyes Brothers want to fight me. Whaddya say? Anyone from the back? Can any of you forgive me?” A long minute passed and it appeared no one would answer the call before Archie ‘The Governor’ Judge came out to the ring. “Pavel, I’m a straight shooter and don’t take kindly to people pullin’ my chain. But tonight you’ve been a straight shooter too and that’s all I can ask of a man. Tell ya’ what. I’ll stand in your corner. What do you say? Partner?” Judge extended his hand. Pavel hesitated and then shook it warmly, awaiting the arrival of the Border Runners. D+

Pavel Landis/Archie ‘The Governor’ Judge v. The Border Runners (Carlos Reyes and Luis Reyes)

Billy’s Take: Before the match, Carlos took the microphone. “Our beef isn’t with you hombre,” he motioned at Judge. “Just hand over the traitor and be done with it.” Archie took the mic. “Sorry Carlos. I can’t in clear conscious do that. You’ll have to do this the hard way,” he said, throwing the mic down and awaiting the coming attack. The Reyes Brothers attacked viciously, especially when going up against Pavel. This was a back and forth, Landis showcasing a less-heelish offense and the Reyes’ continually pounding on Landis. In the end, the teamwork of Carlos and Luis Reyes overwhelmed the makeshift tandem of Landis and Judge as Carlos and Luis hit the Double Fence Hop Legdrop on Landis and covered for the 1…2…3.

Texas Outlaw/Trailer Park Kid v. Lords of War w/Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: Once again, Nero led a tag team of Disciples to the ring. This team, however, was much different. Their eyes were glazed over, their huge muscular bodies almost limp in submission. Nero whispered something to Pain that barely registered, although Nero cackled in glee. The Texas Outlaw and Trailer Park Kid came out next, slapping hands with fans at ringside even as a cigarette dangled out of the TPK’s mouth. They immediately attacked the Lords of War, driving Nero hurriedly to the floor in a desire to escape the onslaught. Trailer Park Kid tossed Agony to a corner and climbed to the second rope, punching Agony’s forehead repeatedly while Texas Outlaw mirrored the action in the opposing turnbuckle. They then tossed the two big men together. The Lords of War stumbled for a moment and then each hit massive clotheslines on their attackers. The match then went back and forth. In the end, Nero had to interfere to aid his charges, smacking the Trailer Park Kid in the back of the head with his ever-present cane when my back was turned (thanks Kurt for telling me about this later). When I turned back around, TPK fell prey to the War Machine, giving the Lords of War their biggest win (by far) in TWL.

Mean Mark Green v. Professor Nero w/ the Lords of War and TimberWolf

Billy’s Take: Mean Mark Green is a huge name in Texas. He is the Mean Machine, the toughest hombre in West Texas, and a feared member of the Texas Outlaws for almost a decade. The crowd clearly appreciated this fact, standing and giving him a rousing ‘Mean Mark, Mean Mark, Mean Mark’ chant as he strolled coolly down to the ring. By contrast the fans expressed their disdain of Professor Nero when the sadistic ‘Intelligent Monster’ slunk to the squared circle, seconded by TimberWolf and the Lords of War and carrying his prized possessions (Stampy’s star, TPK’s smokes, and Perfect Pat’s towel). Nero played possum in this match, much like in his encounter with Deacon last month, allowing Green to instigate the brawling and allowing himself to be backed into a corner before viciously lashing out and temporarily blinding Green with a rake to the eyes. From there on, Nero was in absolute control as the crowd rallied behind Green. Mean Mark powered out of a rear chinlock only to have TimberWolf jump up on the apron. The momentary distraction was all that Nero needed, locking Mean Mark in the Descent into Madness and shaking him until he could not answer the three count and I had to award the match to Nero.

Professor Nero and his minions, TimberWolf and the Lords of War slowly walked backstage. Meanwhile, ‘Perfect’ Pat Deacon and Major W.G. Reginald III came out for Deacon’s match against Cobra. Instead of bypassing Deacon and Reginald, Nero called for his disciples to attack Perfect Pat and the Major. Nero himself didn’t touch Deacon or Reginald, contentedly rubbing his treasures between his forefinger and thumb as his charges laid into the faces. Apparently satisfied, Nero called off TimberWolf and the Lords of War, leading his charges backstage as Reginald and Nero attempted to regroup and limp to the ring. B

‘Perfect’ Pat Deacon w/Major W.G. Reginald III v. Cobra w/Viper

Billy’s Take: Before the match even began, I asked Deacon if he was fit to continue. In fact I tried to get him some medical attention, but he refused on both counts, insistent that Nero would not affect his focus on the upcoming match against the dangerous Cobra. Cobra immediately took advantage of Deacon’s injured state, beating him around the ring while all Deacon could do is kick out of pinfall attempts and grasp desperately for the ring ropes when locked in submission holds. But Cobra could simply not finish off Deacon. Out of nowhere, Deacon connected with a Deacon Driver, pinning Cobra for the three count even after being dominated in the match.

Rip Chord came out to the ring next, flanked by Mayhem Midden. When they arrived at the ring, a smirking Rip motioned to the back where four unlucky stagehands began wheeling a casket to the ring. The shocked crowd just sat, mouths agape, watching Chord and Midden chuckle at the macabre scene. Once the casket sat at ringside, Midden pulled a small book from out of his jacket and handed it to Rip Chord. “We come here today to mourn a terrible loss,” he began, feigning tears and allowing his voice to sound like a choked-up Baptist preacher. “Though he was old and washed up, he was a fighter, a real hero…of the Civil War. We won’t really miss ol’ Mark, but we’ll remember him forever. Oh dear Mark…ummm…” Rip turned to Midden, whispering loudly something about not recalling his name, “oh, that’s right. Mark ‘The Lariat’ Krogan. So today we pay our last…hell, our first…respects to this gentle giant. A man who walked with dinosaurs and fought the Romans. A man who built the pyramids and the Great Wall. A real…umm…old guy. So goodbye Mark. And good riddance. Now Executioner, come on out here ‘cuz Rip’s got places to be, so let’s get this over with quickly.” Rip threw down the microphone as the crowd howled for his head. B-

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/RipChord1977.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/MayhemMidden.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii147/ajcrible/Texas%20Wrestling/ErnieTurner_alt2.jpg

The Executioner emerged from the backstage area. But unlike the past sightings of the Executioner (19 year-old chiseled Kenny Maynard trying to smash his afro under a yellow and black mask) this one had a bit of a limp and a much broader, older-looking body. Rip Chord also noticed the difference and hastily picked up the fallen microphone. “No way,” he stammered, “no way in hell. That ain’t the Executioner. That’s Krogan. You aren’t allowed to be in Texas, Krogan. Get the hell out of here. Billy, check him, Billy. That’s Krogan.” I merely shrugged. I wasn’t about to try and pull the mask off a near-300 pound man. “Unh uh,” Rip screamed. “No way. I’m not fighting you again old timer. I beat you once within an inch of your life and I sure as hell ain’t got nothin’ to prove by kicking your ass again.” Rip threw down the microphone and, pulling Midden along, stomped to the backstage area. I dutifully counted to ten before awarding the match, via countout, to the Executioner. B-

“Got a minute, Billy?” The Lone Star Stampeder limped down the hallway to where I sat scribbling in my notebook. “Sure Stampy, for you I got two.” I chanced a ‘joke,’ but the boss wasn’t known for his sense of humor. “Lemme take a look at that thar notebook real quick,” he motioned at my book. “Thought the Border Runners match was better than the Lords of War one did ya? Hmmm, not sure if Mycroft will buy that one. But interestin’ stuff. Hey Billy, you got a good mind for this. I’m durn impressed. Keep up the good work. We might just have some room for ya’ to get your feet wet in the bookin’ end of the business someday. And congrats on that baby. Rip Chord strutted arrogantly toward the ring, followed by the self-proclaimed “Baddest Man on the Planet” Mayhem Midden. As he approached the ring, Rip saw a kid holding a sign at ringside that read Hanging Chord: The Executioner is here!! Rip motioned for Midden to confiscate and destroy the sign, which Midden did with glee. Rip took a microphone. “Listen up Mark Krogan. You may think you got the best of Rip Chord, may think you pulled the wool right under Rip Chord’s nose” (Rip mixing metaphors? Nah). “You couldn’t be further from the truth. You see, that little masked man charade is only going to result in payback. Not against you Krogan. No, you’re banned from the TWL, remember? No, its going to be payback against the *real* Executioner. As Rip Chord understands it, the *real* Executioner is just a kid, a rookie in this business. Don’t you pride yourself on teaching the next generation? Mentoring the young kids? Well tonight, Rip Chord is going to make it his mission to make this kid’s life a living hell. And you are to blame Krogan. You and you alone. So tonight when Rip Chord batters that kid around the ring and puts his career in jeopardy, he will know that you are the one causing the pain. You are the one crippling the dreams of a young wrestler. You…and you…alone.” C-

‘Perfect’ Pat Deacon w/Major W.G. Reginald III v. Tsunami w/Eruption

After the match, Pat Deacon took a microphone. “Professor Nero, you dirty dog, you’ve been huntin’ me for weeks now. And I got just one question for you. Why me? Are you jealous of me? Are you just not right in the head? I’m sick of your mind games Nero. I gotta know. Why me?” C+

Mean Mark Green w/Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman v. TimberWolf w/Professor Nero

Billy’s Take: This was a very back and forth encounter, with TimberWolf’s high flying balanced by Green’s brawling and mat work. In the end, TimberWolf’s inexperience cost him as he clearly counted on Nero to interfere on his behalf and paid more attention to his apparently content manager than his wily opponent. The momentary lapse allowed Green to connect with the Outlaw Driver and pick up the win. After the match, TimberWolf glared at Nero. Nero responded by backhanding his canine protégé and pointing him to go backstage by himself as Nero followed several paces behind.

TWL Tag Team Title Match: Show Stealers (Mr. Excitement (Brad Kelley)/Red Falcon) v. Black Serpent Cult ©

Billy’s Take: The mystery team turned out to be a young Canadian duo known as the Show Stealers. The champions entered next, causing hairs on the back of my neck to stand on end as the demonic duo slowly approached the ring. The Serpents slid under the bottom rope and Cobra tossed the burlap sack containing their pet snake into the corner. The Show Stealers tentatively entered the ring, wary of the writhing sack of snake. The match was a very even contest, with the Show Stealers taking to the ropes and using innovative double-teams against the champions. The Serpents seemed surprised by the offensive arsenal of the Show Stealers and had to resort to escaping to the floor on numerous occasions to retain their titles (if not their dignity). On the last occasion, Viper pulled on my shirt from behind as he and Cobra both stood on the floor and I kept the Show Stealers at bay. I turned around to tell Viper to cut out the shenanigans when, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a bright flash of light. I turned around to see Mr. Excitement writhing on the ground holding his face and Red Falcon eat a Solid Snake Stunner, allowing Viper to slither in and pin Mr. Excitement for the 1…2…3.

The Black Serpent Cult, apparently dissatisfied with nearly losing their tag team titles, continued to beat down the young Show Stealers. Cobra slithered over to the corner of the ring and hoisted the burlap sack in the air. He ceremoniously dumped the snake on the prone body of Mr. Excitement, who quickly fled the ring, Red Falcon in tow, as the Cult stood silently in the ring. D+

Pavel Landis v. ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ Mayhem Midden w/Rip Chord

Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman, the Texas Outlaw, and the Trailer Park Kid came out to the ring. “Johnny Boy Tucker,” Bowman began, “get your ****in’ *** out here.” Johnny Boy Tucker slowly walked out from the backstage area, holding the hand of his lovely valet Shannon. “Look Johnny Boy,” Bowman began as Tucker finally entered the ring. “Tonight me and you have got a ****in’ match against the bastard Border Runners. But all I ****in’ see is you b*tchin’ and moanin’ and pissin’ about how losin’ your ***-damned friend. Krogan was my ****in’ friend too, dammit. Floyd ‘F-Bomb’ Bowman/‘American Made’ Johnny Boy Tucker w/Trailer Park Kid, Texas Outlaw, and Shannon v. The Border Runners (Carlos Reyes/Luis Reyes)

Billy’s Take: The crowd was solidly behind Tucker and Bowman against the always-despised Border Runners. The Reyes’, though, looked like they couldn’t have cared less, mocking the crowd at every turn. The Mexican duo controlled the early part of the match with a series of rapid tags and solid teamwork, working over Johnny Boy Tucker. A fortunate hot tag to Bowman allowed the curse-spewing whirlwind to clear the ring. He pushed Carlos to a corner and punched him in the neck before flipping him the middle finger. Then he hit the Salute ‘n Boot on Luis, but Carlos broke up the pinfall. Bowman then tagged in Tucker, who seemed to have gained some energy. But before Tucker could do much damage, some guy ran in from the backstage area and attacked Bowman, forcing me to call for the bell. The Texas Outlaw and Trailer Park Kid ran back to the ring to even the odds. The Border Runners, with their new associate, backed down the ramp while the Outlaws stood in the ring, yelling for the Runners to come back and fight.

Rip Chord again made his way to the ring, this time alone. After making it about halfway to the squared circle, he turned around and motioned to the backstage area. At this signal, Mayhem Midden emerged, dragging along a semiconscious masked man, apparently The Executioner. As Rip laughed hysterically, Midden kicked, punched, and otherwise brutally cajoled the now-bleeding Executioner into the ring. Midden threw him down in a heap, brushed his hands off, and slid outside the ring. Rip, microphone already in hand, spoke to the crowd. “Mark Krogan, take a close look. His blood is on your hands…and on the floor…and on Mayhem’s boots…and hell, just about everywhere else. This is gonna be fun.”C-

TWL Title Match: The Executioner v. Rip Chord © w/Mayhem Midden

Billy’s Take: The Executioner got in very little offense, but got the crowd behind him as he took his whipping. Chord had several opportunities to end the match, but each time pulled the Executioner’s hooded head up at 2. Then Chord apparently had enough and tried to pin the Executioner after hitting a boydslam. The Executioner somehow kicked out at 2 and this sent Rip into a rage. He pummeled the youngster around the ring before hitting two huge Rip Chord DDTs, finally pinning the Executioner for the 3 count.

As the crowd began filing out, a high-pitched shriek stopped them all in their tracks. Professor Nero came out to the ring, flanked by the Lords of War and carrying the cigarettes and tin star wrapped in the blood-caked towel. “Perfect little Patty. Patty not fatty. Patty’s a ratty. Patty spatty on a little catty,” Nero began in a sing-song voice. “Patty wants answers? Not from Mycroft. No we won’t give him any will we? None, no none, no one no fun.” Then, as if an electrode exploded in his brain, his demeanor changed and his voice dropped several octaves. “Pat Deacon, you want to know why I chose you? Its always about you, isn’t it? Well, it is really quite simple. My whole life I’ve been told that I don’t fit the mold. I’m not your stereotypical American sycophant. I didn’t eat enough apple pie or hot dogs, never marched in a Fourth of July parade, never sang “God Bless America,” never drove my Chevy to the levy and found it dry. While the good ol’ boys drank whiskey and rye, I drowned a cat and said ‘this’ll be the day that it dies,” he continued as the crowd half-stood, half-sat as if scared to make a movement with the sadistic Nero in the ring. “But you, Perfect Pat Deacon, you represent everything good and right with the United States. You’re…Perfect. And I’m not, so that means you pay for the sins of a nation. Tonight when you go home and kiss that little family of yours, think of me. Think of Professor Mycroft Nero as I huddle under a bridge to escape the rain and as I swindle a junkie out of booze money. Think of that tonight Perfect Pat and you will perhaps comprehend my desire, no…my need, to see you pay.” C+

I quite like trying to figure out pushes from how you treat guys actually. It stops matches being easy to predict. Although sometimes it makes me feel like Im being obtuse on purpose...

And of course if your readers all keep backing someone its a good sign to give the people what they want. Exactly the way bookers do of course. If someone gets over quickly plans should have to adapt to keep pace
