COACHING STAFF AFTER HIRING STAGE Offensive Coordinator Thom Schumacher prefers to run the Smash Mouth offense. He's better as a motivator than as a scout/player developer, although he is Average at scouting QB's. He's worst at developing guys. D-coordinator Po Muster is pretty solid for a low-rung-of-the-ladder team. He's average or below average in all ratings, except Developing DB's, where he is Poor. Special teams coach Courtney Battles is pretty bad, but at least he was cheap. TRANSFERS No one with interest >"Low", so I make no inquiries here.

Arlie said he was adding some wingback run plays to the option formations, but does the cpu AI still put TE's in the wingback position on the depth chart? I know you can change this for your own team, but computer controlled teams using an option offense would still have TE's running the ball.

Question about recruiting Ben. Are the recruits you have listed as "X" walk-ons? I am beginning to get a little conecerned as I go through the demo with the numer of Players I have walking on each year. I usually get 2-3 *** players a couple ** players at BYU before the final 2 weeks. After that it is all walk-ons. My last time through I only tried to recruit 2 **** players. One, I gave up on early and the second I thought I would land the whole time until he went elsewhere at the 11th hour...thats fine. Going into the final week I had 12 schollies left and 9 of the 12 offers I had out there were a 10 in interest. Six of them (3 *** and 3 **) had no other offers going into the last week, yet I did not land a single one of them. This is a concern to me as I just can't see other Schools jumping in with offers at the last second and stealing all 6, no better than average D-1 prospects, away from me at the last minute. Especially when I had scouted them, had a good fit with all the things they held important, and, spent in one case up to $17,000 on recruiting them. I would be interested in your feedback on this in the current build.....

BYU-- They are the guys who aren't walk-ons, but weren't on my "signee" e-mail either, so I don't have their info. Arlie explained that if you have extra schollies and roster slots to fill, and there are guys who are on your watch list with no offers, the watch list guys will get schollies. The goal, though, is that the vast majority of your schollies will be given to guys who you offered. Arlie has been tweaking this. It is better now than in the demo, but still not quite there. I'm sure he'll look at it some more.

Prelim depth charts this season have option teams mainly using a FB at WB. It really should be RB2. I'll pass this along.

I guess the only follow up I would have then is these guys should appear on an email somewhere so you know, since you did recruit them.
More updates!!
My bad! I had a lot going on last night between my wife coming back in town from a long weekend away, trades in IHOF, and testing some other things in BBCF. Here's the 2006 Recap, though: We went 6-5 (4-3) on the year. Because I was quite busy, I went ahead and let the AI handle things for most of the season. I also wanted to take another look at recruiting for the sake of some testing-related issues. Next season I will probably set the gameplan and depth chart each week manually. The numbers....

Not surprisingly, we were spanked in the New Orleans Bowl by STanford, 34-0. Willie Gash, however, finished his college career with a nice game against a legit opponent: 8 carries for 42 yards. Also, soph OG Bubby Boykin had a mistake-free game with a pancake and a KRB.
You're coach of the year in the Sun Belt, go to a Bowl Game and your performace is a D? Sheesh.. ;)
Performance is an absolute, based on record and ranking. The "A" in Prestige means that it improved pretty well.
I see Rose got some playing time last year. Did he run the ball well?
Not really. In fact, with our new o-coordinator, his ratings don't look as good. I'm at the office now, away from that career, so I'll have to give you details later. Pierson Bear, who was the backup QB who got lots of playing time next year, is looking quite solid as a dual-threat option QB. I think his run rating is in the high 50's at the beginning of 2007, and his pass-related ratings in the high 50's and low 60's, too. :) He'll get the nod this year (and next, too, I think he's a Junior, maybe even a Soph.)
