Jingo
http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo302/brettney1980/WMMA/WorldCombatLeague.jpg What is the World Combat League? The World Combat League (WCL) is a full contact, team-based martial arts competition. Each team (consisting of 5 men and 1 woman) is from a different city or region. The WCL is a "striking war" with short fights, to encourage an all-out style of fighting. Any striking techniques from Boxing, muay thai, International-Style Kickboxing, and Full-Contact Karate are allowed. In order to maintain the fast pace of the action, clinching, holding or ground fighting (grappling) are prohibited. The WCL was founded by movie star and martial artist Chuck Norris. A portion of the proceeds from the World Combat League are dedicated to support KickStart, a charity created by Norris to bring martial arts discipline and values to at-risk children in middle school. So how does a 'Team-based Martial arts competition' work? Each team member fights 3 x 3 minute rounds against a similier weighted opponant; Weight divisions This represents the maximum weight for each of the men's division. 147 lbs164 lbs178 lbs195 lbs235+ lbs128+ lbs for women. For the fighter weigh-in, there is a window of a several pounds that must be met to qualify. For example, the 195 lbs division fighters are required to weight between 178 and 195, whereas the 235 lbs weight division must weigh between 195 and 235 lbs. Points are awarding to each team during each of the 6 fights; Three judges score each fight based on knockdowns, extent of damage inflicted, and the volume of clean-scoring strikes landed. Each judge will award five points to the fighter they see as superior, and four or less points to the opponent. The judges points are combined at the end of each fight (45 points maximum, not counting penalties), and are then added to the teams overall total from the previous fights. The team with the most points at the end of the 6 fights wins. KO's and TKO's award a 50/30/25 point dependent on which round the KO occured - The opponant always scores zero ot KO'd. Match conduct The referee has the right to stop the fighters if a fighter cannot defend himself intelligently, the fights goes out-of-bounds (the red zone), a fighter is downed, or the opponents are holding. Fighters are expected to follow the referees instructions at all times or be disqualified, which results in the maximum points being awarded to the winner (same as a KO). In addition, there is a mandatory ten count on all knockdowns. So what is legal? Punching - Jab, Cross, Hook, Uppercut, and Spinning Backfist Kicking - Front-Kicks, Roundhouse Kicks, Side Kicks, Back Kicks, Hook Kicks, Wheel Kicks,Spinning Kicks Kneeing - Front and Roundhouse And Illigal? No Throws! No Takedowns! No Ground Fighting! No Clinching - Intentionally tying-up the opponent's arms in an effort to stop them from punching. No Holding - Grabbing the opponent's body in an effort to stop them from attacking or countering. No Stalling - Intentionally delaying the action of a contest in any way. No Passivity - Retreating or circling without striking - or fighting only when the opponent attacks. All will constitute a penalty point deduction (for each offence). So who is this Chuck Norris geezer? I'll describe him in the form of Norris' facts ... 1. When the Boogeyman goes to sleep at night, he checks his closet for Chuck Norris. 2. Chuck Norris doesn't read books. He stares them down until he gets the information he wants. 3. There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live. 4. Outer space exists because it's afraid to be on the same planet with Chuck Norris. 5. Chuck Norris doesn't sleep. He waits. 6. They wanted to put Chuck's face on Mount Rushmore, but the granite wasn't tough enough to handle his beard. 7. Chuck Norris is the reason Waldo is hiding. 8. Chuck Norris counted to infinity-twice. 9. When Chuck Norris does a push-up, he isn't lifting himself up. He's pushing the Earth down. 10. Chuck Norris is so fast, he can run around the world and punch himself in the back of the head. 11. Chuck Norris' hand is the only hand that can beat a royal flush. 12. There is no such thing as global warming. Chuck Norris was cold, so he turned the sun up. 13. Chuck Norris doesn't need a watch. HE decides what time it is. 14. Chuck Norris gave Mona Lisa that smile. 15. Chuck Norris can slam a revolving door. 16. Chuck Norris doesn't get frostbite. He bites frost. 17. There is no chin behind Chuck Norris' beard. There is only another fist. 18. Remember the Soviet Union? They decided to quit after watching a "DeltaForce" marathon on satellite TV. 19. Contrary to popular belief, America is not a democracy. It's a Chucktatorship. 20. Chuck Norris can lead a horse to water AND make him drink. ...

Scottie
Haha very interesting concept. I've always thought about trying my own game in a similar style, but the contract system doesn't really suit it. Will be fun to see how you go, though. Jingo

Chuck Norris Fact of the Day!

Chuck Norris roundhouse kicked the elemental table because the only element Chuck Norris believes in is the element of surprise.

World Combat League athletes are well-conditioned, exciting professional CMA (Combat Martial Arts) fighters. In an effort to encourage consistent "full throttle" fighting action, our team presentation only requires each athlete to compete in three rounds three minute long. This allows them to fight at a pace unprecedented in combat sports. No "sticking and moving," no "jab and grab," just "pedal to the metal" fighting action.

Even the judge's scoring system and the referee's penalty point system is designed to reward this "full throttle" style of fighting and penalize any attempt to stall or fight passively.

Both teams will enter the ring and stand with each team member facing their opponent. The referee will administer the pre-fight instructions and execute the "coin toss". The coach of the team who wins the coin toss is allowed to select which fighter will start the contest. If for example, the coach chooses his middleweight, then he and the opposing team's middleweight will stay in the ring while the remaining fighters retire to the "fighter's pen" (a warm-up area close to the ring).

At the end of each fight the judge's scores will be announced and added to the total points awarded from the previous fights. Referee awarded penalty points are added to the cumulative score when they occur. The team that has the most cumulative points when the final fight is concluded is crowned the winner.

WCL events feature CMA (Combat Martial Arts) extreme action. It's all about STRIKING: Kicking, Punching and Kneeing (think of it as "KARATE FOR THE NEW MILLENIA"). There is no holding, clinching, throwing, grappling or wrestling. If a fighter lacks spirit, or tries to slow the pace of the fight down by holding or avoiding, his team will immediately be penalized (points awarded to the opposing team).

Each fight within the team contest only lasts for three three minute rounds, so each CMA fighter needs to "burn rubber" in order to earn as many points for their team as possible. Three judges score each fight based on knockdowns, extent of damage inflicted, and the volume of clean-scoring strikes landed. Each judge will award five points to the fighter they see as superior, and four or less points to the opponent.
