UFC 6 - Clash of the Titans Saturday week 4 July 1995

http://www.thetechherald.com/media/images/201020/UFC_1.jpg

The First Fight

Gerard Gordeau Vs Jason Fairn

The Match - An exciting match to kick off the show but it was Gordeau's experience and general skill that shone on the night. He took down Fairn approaching the third minute of the match and took his back and choked him out for the win.

The Result - Gerard Gordeau wins by submission via rear naked choke in 3.09

The Rating - Great

Tournament Quarter-Finals

Dave Beneteau Vs Oleg Taktarov

The Match - The Russian Bear was in good form for this match but for 15 minutes the match consisted of nothing but failed submission attempts from Taktarov until eventually he managed to submit a spirited Beneteau

Result - Oleg Taktarov wins by submission via Americana in 18.00.

Match Rating - Good

Pat Smith Vs Maurice Smith

The Match - the Smiths produced on hell of a poor match that went the full 30 minutes. The only action happened when Maurice knocked down Pat and that alone probably clinched the decision in his favour.

Result - Maurice Smith wins via unanimous decision in 30.00

Match Rating - Awful

Cal Worsham Vs Robert Lucarelli

The Match - The fighters circled each other for a minute or so and them Lucarelli attempted the takedown, Worsham saw it coming and hit a huge right hand that knocked Lucarelli to the floor he then proceeded to hit punch after punch until the referee stepped in.

Result - Cal Worsham wins via TKO Strikes in 1.19

Match Rating - Good

Tank Abbott Vs Sean Daugherty

The Match -After a good bit of back and forth for the first few minutes the entire fight was a stand up battle but in the end Tanks power won it when he floored Daugherty and after a few blows to the face and head of a prone Daugherty the referee pulled Tank off him.

Result - Tank Abbott wins via TKO(Strikes) after 3.57

Match Rating - good

Semi-Finals

Oleg Taktarov Vs Maurice Smith

The Match - Maurice Smith continued from his first match with nearly 15 minutes of boring stand up. Taktarov eventually took him down won exactly how he did last time when making Smith tap out.

Result - Oleg Taktarov wins by submission via Americana in 15.41

Match Rating - Poor

Cal Worsham, Vs Dave "Tank" Abbott

The Match - It seems like Tank can produce some entertaining matches with a variety of opponents, although not always rated high I really like watching them unfold. This match was quite exciting but once again Tanks power came into play and he pounced on the down Worsham with punch after vicious punch for the win.

Result - Tank Abbott wins via TKO strikes in 5.02

Match Rating - Decent

The Final

http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu330/Acidburned/UFC/TankAbbott.gif Vshttp://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu330/Acidburned/UFC/OlegTaktarov.gif

The Match - A curious battle between top stand up power and submission ability Tanks willingness to press his opponent went against him as Taktarov was able to silence the USA USA chants by taking Tanks back and submitting him in style within 5 minutes.

Result - Oleg Taktarov wins by submission via rear naked choke in 3.33

Match Rating - Great

The Super Fight

http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu330/Acidburned/UFC/RoyceGracie.gif Vs http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu330/Acidburned/UFC/DanSevern.gif

The Match - Nothing much to say apart from yawn, pretty much the poorest match the UFC has ever seen. The only action came after 40 minutes with Severn took down Gracie and hit a huge left elbow that cut Graice wide open to the pleasure of the crowd. Despite being covered in book from the cut the match ran it's course with the odd submission attempt here and there.

The Result - Royce Gracie and Dan Severn drew in a 60 minute time limit.

Match Rating - Abysmal

Attendance - 189 for a gate of $4,725

Pay-Per-View - 1,480 Buys for revenue of $8,880

Fight of the Night - Gerard Gordeau Vs Jason Fairn

KO of the Night - Tank Abbott

Submission of the Night - Oleg Taktarov

Critical Success - Poor

Commercial Success - Great

I wanted Severn to win as his real life performance against Taktarov was the reason I got into watching MMA. Someone will beat Gracie for the title eventually lol.

UFC 7 - The Super Tournament Sunday week 4 December 1995

http://www.thetechherald.com/media/images/201020/UFC_1.jpg

The First Fight

Gerard Gordeau Vs Jon Hess

The Match - The fans deserve a medal for sitting through this, Hess left it late and with both men completely gassed it was the big man Hess who hit a huge right hook to KO Gordeau.

The Result - Jon Hess wins by KO punch in 58.01

The Rating - Poor

The Second Fight

Maurice Smith Vs Cal Worsham

The Match - Another long match but luckily half the time of the last one. Maurice proved to be just as boring action wise as his last outing but Worsham was pretty decent and eventually hit a nice right hook that landed right on the jaw and KO'd Smith.

The Result - Cal Worsham wins by KO punch in 30.51

The Rating - Poor

Tournament Quarter-Finals

Ken Shamrock Vs Masakatsu Funaki

The Match - A decent enough match but Shamrock was never really troubled by Funaki at all. A stand up exchange led to Shamrock flooring Funaki and then hitting punch after punch until the referee stopped the onslaught.

Result - Ken Shamrock wins by TKO strikes in 4.51.

Match Rating - Decent

Royce Graice Vs Earl Eaton

The Match - The young rookie Eaton put up a good fight and even floored Graice with a hard right hand in the fifth minute but he could not capitalise on it. He took Gracie down once more with his wrestling but Gracie managed to lock in a guillotine choke for the win.

Result - Royce Gracie wins by submission via guillotine choke in 10.43

Match Rating - Decent

Dan Severn Vs Thaddeus Luster

The Match - Severn dominated this match up with a few take downs early on and then with not much resistance he locked in an arm triangle that forced Luster to tap out.

Result - Dan Severn wins by submission via arm triangle in 3.38

Match Rating - Decent

Tank Abbott Vs Bas Rutten

The Match -Two fan favourites face off in what was just under three minutes of flying fists. Eventually it was Tank who managed to hit the hardest punch and followed up with some big stomps and punches until the referee stopped the fight.

Result - Tank Abbott wins via TKO(Strikes) after 2.51

Match Rating - Great

Semi-Finals

Ken Shamrock Vs Royce Gracie

The Match - Ken Shamrock was hoping for revenge against the only man who holds victories over him in the UFC. Gracie was patient as ever and despite the strong start from Shamrock which included knocking down Gracie within the first minute. After that Shamrock posed very little threat and was eventually submitted by Gracie when he took him down but as usual Gracie loves fighting off his back and managed to grab the arm and lock in a tight submission.

Result - Royce Gracie wins by submission via armbar in 8.33

Match Rating - Good

"The Beast" Dan Severn Vs Dave "Tank" Abbott

The Match - Tank was after revenge but The Beast was on a mission to try and get another shot at Gracie after the draw at the last event. It took Severn less than two minutes to submit Tank with a strong tight armbar.

Result - Dan Severn wins by submission via via armbar in 1.54

Match Rating - Decent

The Final

http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu330/Acidburned/UFC/RoyceGracie.gif Vs http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu330/Acidburned/UFC/DanSevern.gif

The Match - "The Beast" Dan Severn was on fire and took down Gracie with ease much to the delight of the crowd. However their delight was short lived as Gracie attempted submission after submission and eventually Severn left his arm in and Gracie locked in an armbar. Luckily for the viewers and fans this match more than made up for the poor showing last time the pair met in the octagon.

The Result - Royce Gracie wins by submission via armbar in 6.19

Match Rating - Great

Attendance - 210 for a gate of $5,250

Pay-Per-View - 1,725 Buys for revenue of $10,350

UFC 8 - Day of the Debut Saturday week 4 March 1996

http://www.thetechherald.com/media/images/201020/UFC_1.jpg

The First Fight

Teila Tuli Vs Gary Goodridge

The Match - Tuli was a big underdog going into this match and for the first 5 minutes it was easy to see why. Then something snapped inside of the giant sumo he wrestled Goodridge against the cage and hit a mean right upper cut, Goodridge tried to defend himself by taking down the sumo but Tuli had other ideas and locked in a guillotine which he held as both men fell to the floor, eventually Goodridge had no option but to tap out.

The Result - Teila Tuli wins by submission via guillotine in 8.45

The Rating - Average

Tournament Quarter-Finals

Mark Hall Vs Paul Varelans

The Match - The big man Varelans was too much to handle and he easily hit jab after jab on a clueless Mark Hall. In under 5 minutes Varelans knocked his opponent down and rained down punch after punch to clinch the win.

Result - Paul Varelans wins by TKO strikes in 4.33

Match Rating - Average

Melton Bowen Vs Ernie Verdicia

The Match - A pretty good match with plenty of stand up action and in the end the harder hitter won. Bowen floored Verdicia with a great right hook and then followed up with a soccer kick to head, Verdicia was probably out but Bowen landed several punches to the downed opponent until the referee pulled him away.

Result - Melton Bowen wins by TKO Strikes in 9.47

Match Rating - Average

Roberto Lesnar Vs Andy Anderson

The Match - The huge Muay Thai fighter Lesnar took a while to get into the swing of things after 15 minutes of an average at best MMA fight it was Lesnar who got Anderson into a clinch and hit two brutal knees when Anderson was down he continued to hit stomp after stomp and kick after kick until the referee stopped the fight.

Result - Roberto Lesnar wins by TKO Strikes in 16.17

Match Rating - Decent

Rudyard Moncayo Vs Don Frye

The Match -Moncayo had no answer to Frye's wrestling and stand up skills. It did however take Frye a long long time to get the victory, just before the half hour mark he managed to floor Moncayo and continue the theme of the tournament with a TKO win

Result - Don Frye wins by TKO Strikes after 28.44

Match Rating - Average

Semi-Finals

Paul Varelans Vs Melton Bowen

The Match - Long and boring does not begin to describe this fight none of the men were willing to engage properly and really search for the win. It took nearly an hour for Varelans to come out on top with a submission for the win.

Result - Paul Varelans wins by submission via triangle choke in 57.30

Match Rating - Good

Don Frye Vs Roberto Lesnar

The Match - Frye was a huge favourite to win this match and after some good stand up from both men he was ready to take Lesnar down. Lesnar had other ideas and blocked the take down after putting the wrestler/boxer into a clinch Lesnars right knee was the end of Fryes night, he drove his knee into Fryes face and he was out before he hit the floor.

Result - Roberto Lesnar wins by knock out knee in 4.09

Match Rating - Decent

The Final - Roberto Lesnar Vs Don Frye

The Match - Ten minutes of a pretty boring match it was the battle of two big men but it was all about one man and that man is Roberto Lesnar. He continued to relish his role as the underdog and once again used what he knows best. After catching Varelans in the clinch a hard right knee was followed by an even harder left knee that sent Varelans crumbling to the floor, Lesnar pounced to hit punch after punch until the referee stopped the match.

http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu330/Acidburned/UFC/Robertolesnar.gif

The Result - Tournament winner Roberto Lesnar wins by TKO Strikes in 10.35.

Match Rating - Poor

Attendance - 210 for a gate of $5,250

Pay-Per-View - 2,215 Buys for revenue of $13,290

Fight of the Night - Roberto Lesnar Vs Andy Anderson

KO of the Night - Roberto Lesnar

Submission of the Night - Paul Varelans

Critical Success - Poor

Commercial Success - Decent

Predictions

Aldenvdk - 3/8

PoisenedSuperman - 2/8

Jingo - 2/8

A very hard show to predict. It is worth noting that for all regens that progress I will be looking to take pictures from the default data and use them as their fighter pic, I have never played the default data so have no real clue who the fighters are lol I just go through them until I find someone who I think suits the name.

I was as gutted as you that Severn lost, I am currently at UFC 91 and Severn is still about but a long long was from 100 fights, also gutted that Bas lost after seeing him in GTA I was hoping he would have a good successful career. PoisonedSuperman I am guessing you are wanting a long Gracie title reign?

UFC 9 - Return of the Beast Preview

The Tournament and warm up fight

First off will be Bas Rutten(8-3) returning but not in the tournament he will face a Japanese fighter who lists his style as PANCRASEism Kazuo Takahashi(6-4), the crowd will be hoping for a Rutten win but it will be tough against the all round fighter Takahashi.

The first set of quarter finals will see Earl Eaton(0-1) looking to put his defeat against Royce Gracie behind him as he faces off against freestyle fighter Thaddeus Luster(0-1). Next up Remco Pardoel(0-2) will return as the ju-jitsu star looks for his first win against the punching ability of Tank Abbott(4-3).

The next set of quarters will see the fan favourite and usually crowd pleasing return of the Beast Dan Severn(5-1-1) on his mission to win the tournament and look for yet another shot at Gracie or whoever holds the superfight title. In his way stands Pat Smith(3-5) who is very hit and miss but does have KO power in his kicks. Lastly will be two newcomers Mark Schultz(0-0) the free style fighter will be up against Todd Medina(0-0) the ju-jitsu man will be looking for a quick submission win.

The Superfight Title Match

The Russian Bear gets another shot after winning the UFC 6 tournament, in recent interviews he has said he will not give Gracie a chance to submit him and may try to keep the fight standing. Yes Royce Gracie is a God. I don't think my brother has watched MMA from the early years but we always talk about Royce still. I'm waiting for Kimo to get a match! LOL

I don't know if you can edit future characters into a saved game but I think it would be really cool if you could create some tough guys from that time. Maybe Bruce Smith or some other NFL player, how about a pro wrestler like Vader? I'm sure there's a hockey player or two or a roided up Jose Canseco would of gave it a try.

I never got to sign Kimo in my game, sorry to disappoint lol. Next time I do this type of game I will be putting Kurt Angle, Mark Calloway and Mike Tyson into the game. I always admired Gracie for winning but I preferred Severn and Shamrock until the ultimate fighter showed how much of an idiot Shamrock really was.

UFC 9 - Return of the Beast Saturday week 2 June 1996

http://www.thetechherald.com/media/images/201020/UFC_1.jpg

Rule Change

To try and encourage more action the rules have now allowed the referee to separate the fighters if he feels there is a lack of action. Also now all title fights will be ran with a 10 minute first round and five 5 minute rounds, in an effort to get the sport more legit it was felt by UFC management that the introduction of rounds would be viewed better. It is felt that rounds will eventually show up in normal fights within the next couple of years.

The First Fight

Bas Rutten(8-3) Vs Kazuo Takahashi(0-0)

The Match - Rutten was all over the Japanese star but it was a pretty boring event. Eventually Rutten floored Takahashi and continued the onslaught until the referee pulled him off.

The Result - Bas Rutten wins by TKO strikes in 6.55

The Rating - Awful

Tournament Quarter-Finals

Earl Eaton(0-1) Vs Thaddeus Luster(0-1)

It was Eaton who dominated the start of the match and Luster showed very little. The big man Eaton dropped Luster with a hard right knee but instead of going for a TKO victory he grabbed the loose arm and tied him up in a tight armbar until he tapped out.

The Result - Earl Eaton wins by submission via armber in 4.27

The Rating - Decent

Tank Abbott(4-3) Vs Remco Pardoel(0-2)

In the shock of the night it was not Tank who went through. He threw lots of punches but in the end was taken down and Pardoel took him back and choked him out.

The Result - Remco Pardoel wins by submission via rear naked choke in 4.11

The Rating - Great

Dan Severn(5-1-1) Vs Par Smith(3-5)

Unfortunately it was another notch in the loss column for the Tae Kwon Do man Pat Smith. Despite landing a few good kicks they didn't have much effect on the Beast who reversed a take down attempt into a guillotine choke for the win.

The Result - Dan Severn wins by submission via guillotine in 6.09

The Rating - Decent

Mark Schultz(0-0) Vs Todd Medina(0-0)

A pretty good match which turned into a stand up battle but it was Schultz who came out on top when he nailed a huge right hook on the jaw of Medina who was out before he hit the floor.

The Result - Mark Schultz wins by KO punch in 3.18

The Rating - Good

Semi-Finals

Remco Pardoel(1-2) Vs Earl Eaton(1-1)

Pardoel could not repeat his last shock victory and the rookie Eaton pounced to win by a very painful looking armbar.

The Result - Earl Eaton wins by submission via armbar in 5.13

The Rating - Decent

Mark Schultz(1-0) Vs Dan Severn(6-1-1)

Schultz was a huge underdog but put up one hell of a fight. It took the Beast nearly 20 minutes to get the better of Schultz although he never looked in trouble. AS with the other semi-final the Beast locked in a nice armbar for the victory.

The Result - Dan Severn wins by submission via armbar in 19.04

"The Beast" Dan Severn(7-1-1) Vs "The Gladiator" Earl Eaton(2-1)

The experience of Dan Severn is what really shone through Eaton did have him in trouble even knocking him down once but could not capitalise. A mistake by the rookie saw Severn lock on a triangle for the win.

The Super Fight

http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu330/Acidburned/UFC/RoyceGracie.gif Vs http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu330/Acidburned/UFC/OlegTaktarov.gif

Royce Gracie(11-1) faced off once again against "The Russian Bear" Oleg Taktarov(10-3) both men having lots of experience and both previous winners. Taktarov wanted to take down Gracie and submit him but that task is very hard to accomplish. Although the fans wanted to see a better fight than last time the two met the competitors were not bothered about pleasing the crowd and it told. The match went into the fifth round with little to no action. It was Gracie who struck first after a take down by Taktarov the Russian left him arm in and Gracie locked on an armbar for the win in the 3rd minute of the 5th round.

The Result - Winner and still Super fight champion Royce Gracie by submission armbar.
