so anything else interesting going down in your universe

Not really there are only two other companies going and both are small time. Based on the editor it will only be a couple of months until Pride opens up so they might put on some good shows and give some competition.

UFC 14 - The Streaks Saturday week 1 May 1997

http://www.thetechherald.com/media/images/201020/UFC_1.jpg

The First Fight

Vitor Belfort(1-1)(Boxing/Jiu-Jitsu) Vs Sean Daugherty(1-2)(Karate)

The Match - The night kicked off with a very poor match with no man really going for the win it was Belfort who managed to lock in a triangle with armbar for the win after more than 20 minutes of boring fighting.

The Result - Vitor Belfort wins by Triangle with armbar in 22.58

The Rating - Very Poor

The Second Fight

Teila Tuli(3-3)(Sumo) Vs Josh Barnett(2-0)(Catch Wrestling)

The Match - The big sumo could not handle the wrestling of Barnett who for 15 minutes pretty much tried every submission he knew but Teila somehow fought them off. In the end Barnett hit a huge right hand to KO the big man.

The Result - Josh Barnett wins by KO punch in 18.02

The Rating - Good

Tournament Quarter-Finals

Randy Couture(1-0)(Greco-Roman Wrestling) Vs Tank Abbott(4-5)(Brawling)

The Match - What a brilliant way to start a UFC career. Couture came out fighting and so did Tank in a typical brawler versus wrestler match with tonnes of action. In the end Couture came out on top with a great takedown he locked in a tight arm bar for the win.

The Result - Randy Couture wins by submission via armbar in 8.09

The Rating - Fantastic

Frank Shamrock(11-5-1)(Submission Fighting Vs Troy Grove(0-0)(Ground and Pound)

The Match - A pretty uneventful match which saw Frank Shamrock progress when he locked in a nice guillotine for the win.

The Result - Frank Shamrock wins by submission via Guillotine in 4.01

The Rating - Poor

Paul Varelans(3-1)(Trap Fighting) Vs Chris Brennan(6-1)(Jiu-Jitsu)

The Match - Brennan managed to over come the odds and beat the much bigger competitor making him tap to a well executed arm bar.

The Result - Chris Brennan wins by submission via Armbar in 12.09

The Rating - Average

Andy Anderson(4-1)(Free Style) Vs Royler Gracie(3-0)(Gracie Jiu-Jitsu)

The Match - Anderson never really stood a chance against the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Royler bided his time like Royce has so many times before and after nearly 15 minutes of pretty good action he tied up Anderson with nice armbar but Anderson escaped and the fight was stood back up. In un-Gracie like style Royler hit a huge left hook that knocked out Anderson before he hit the ground.

The Result - Royler Gracie wins by KO punch in14.06

The Rating - Average

Semi-Finals

Randy Couture(2-0) Vs Frank Shamrock(12-5-1)

The Match - A much more skilled opponent for Couture but he was triumphant again after 20 minutes of back and forth action both men had chances to win but Couture used an arm triangle and Shamrock had to tap out.

The Result - Randy Couture wins by submission via arm triangle in 22.56

The Rating - Average

Chris Brennan(7-1) Vs Royler Gracie(4-0)

The Match - Brennan and Gracie spent 10 minutes in a ground battle with lots of submission attempts. Brennans skill was unable to match Gracies and he took him out with a triangle with armbar for the win.

The Result - Royler Gracie wins by submission via triangle with armbar in 10.13

The Rating - Decent

The Final

Randy Couture(3-0) Vs Royler Gracie(5-0)

The Match - Both men were unbeaten entering this match. Gracie was heavily favoured but Couture was just too quick and too strong. He took down Gracie straight away and dominated the match eventually he managed to take Roylers back and dig in both hook and attempt a rear naked choke. This did not work the first or second time so Randy resorted to brute force laying punch after punch on the face of Royler until the referee pulled him off.

The Result - Randy Couture wins by TKO Strikes in 4.34

The Rating - Good

Main Events

Pat Miletich(13-0)(MMA) Vs Pedro Rizzo(5-1)(Striker)

The Match - Neither man did much to impress the crowd with a very poor showing. It was Miletich who extended his unbeaten run with a big knock out punch that KO'd the much bigger opponent.

The Result - Pat Miletich wins by KO punch in 12.43

The Rating - Very Poor

Enson Inoue(6-0)(Freestyle Wrestling) Vs Tsuyoshi Kohsaka(10-0)(Judo)

The Match - Both unbeaten before entering it was a reasonably good match for the first couple of minutes but then fizzled out into a boring fight. This would not bother Kohsaka who went on to claim yet another win with an arm triangle

The Result - Tsuyoshi Kohsaka wins by submission via arm triangle in 4.36

The Rating - Very Poor

Attendance - 2,838 for a gate of $127,710

Pay-Per-View - 129,780 Buys for revenue of $778,680

Fight of the Night - Randy Couture Vs Tank Abbott

KO of the Night - Pat Miletich

Submission of the Night - Tsuyoshi Kohsaka

Critical Success - Average

Commercial Success - Decent

Predictions

dakydaky - 11/11

Jingo - 9/11

PoisonedSuperman - 9/11

Aldenvdk - 8/11

Seems like that one was much easier to predict than previous events. Got to say nice one to dakydaky I think that's the first perfect prediction so far although I'll have to check back to make sure.

UFC 15 - Shamrock Severn

The tournament will see the following match ups to crown a winner.

Tito Ortiz(0-0)(Submission Fighting) Vs Earl Eaton(4-3)(Ground and Pound)

Thaddeuas Luster(5-2)(Freestyle) Vs Dave Beneteau(0-2)(Wrestling)

Carlos Barreto(6-0)(Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) Vs Carlos Newton(2-1)(Dragonball Jiu-Jitsu)

Dan Bobbish(4-2)(Wrestling) Vs Kevin Randleman(5-0)(Wrestling)

Some good match up Tito Ortiz despite never having a professional MMA fight has been mouthing off saying that Eaton is a coward, question is if it is a good idea to annoy someone so strong and powerful as ground and pound many Earl Eaton. Luster and Beneteau get another chance to try and make an impact in the UFC. Two differing style of Jiu-Jitsu clash with Barreto bringing a perfect professional record against Newton who has some experience in a cage already. Two wrestlers clash last with Bobbish taking on the unbeaten Randleman in what is bound to be a wrestling match.

Starting the night will be Guy Mezger(2-3)(Striker) up against Masakatsu Funaki(12-4)(Catch Wrestling) in what will be an interesting encounter. We will see Gary Goodridge(0-2)(Kuk Soo Won) searching for his first victory although that will be hard against Oleg Taktarov(10-6)(Sambo).

Roberto Lesnar(4-1)(Muay Thai) will be trying to avenge his only defeat against Jon Hess(3-1)(SAFTA) it will be a good move for his career if he can beat the giant with attitude.

The main event will see Ken Shamrock(14-4)(Submission Fighting) take on Dan Sever(9-2-1)(Wrestling) this will be the first meeting between the two in a real clash of the biggest names on the current UFC roster.

I wish I had not got so far ahead so that top predictors could contribute and pick matches. Trouble is I just booked ufc 131 last night. I didnt think I would enjoy playing the game enough to write a diary about it, I will write my next diary after a couple of events rather than after 80 of them lol.

UFC 14 - The Streaks Saturday week 1 May 1997

http://www.thetechherald.com/media/images/201020/UFC_1.jpg

http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu330/Acidburned/UFC/ufc15.png

The show opened with Guy Mezger beating Funaki in a poor match when he submitted what many consider the better fighter. Taktarov returned to grab a good win over Goodridge who's terrible form continued.

Next up was the tournament Earl Eaton was impressive in beating new comer Tito Ortiz easily. Luster managed a huge punch to KO Beneteau after 27 minutes of boring fighting. The next set of quarter finals saw Carlos Barreto in a Gracie like performance submit Carlos Newton using his superior submission skills to submit the spirited Newton. The last man through to the semi-finals was Kevin Randelmann who eventually submitted Dan Bobbish in the battle of the wrestlers.

The semi-finals kicked off with Earl Eaton using his strength and skill to destroy Thaddeus Luster with some powerful ground and pound with a TKO win. The man he would face in the finals would be Carlos Barreto who submitted the big man Kevin Randlemann with a nice arm bar.

The final would see submission expert Carlos Barreto face off against ground and pound man Earl Eaton. It was however Eaton that tapped out Barreto in a very boring match.

Next up Roberto Lesnar got revenge on Jon Hess for the defeat earlier in his career with a very boring unanimous decision it seems neither man can get a conclusive win over the other.

The main event of the night was awful and never lived up to what it should have been. Ken Shamrock defeated Dan Severn when he took him down and slipped round to take the Beasts back with skill before locking in a tight rear naked choke for the win.

UFC 16 - Unstoppable

The tournament will see the following match ups to crown a winner most of these fighters are in bad form and this could get their career back on track.

Paul Varelans(Trapfighting)(3-2) Vs Melton Bowen(Boxing)(3-2)

Gerard Gordeau(Karate)(5-7) Vs Ikuhisa Minowa(Catch Wrestling)(0-2)

The night will kick off with three fights before the tournament as Bas Rutten(Hybrid)(11-4) takes on Royler Gracie(Gracie Jiu-Jitsu)(5-1) Gracie will be looking to get back to winning ways after losing the final to Couture last time out. Matt Sapp(Traditional Jiu-Jitsu)(5-0) will be up against Sean Daugherty(Karate)(1-3) as he looks to do better than Lesnar did after his tournament win, it is being said that if Sapp can win he will face the winner of the main event for the Super Fight Title. Dan Henderson(Wrestling)(2-0) is a promising fighter who will make his debut against Troy Grove(Ground and Pound)(0-1) both fighters looking for their first UFC win.

The main event will see Randy Couture(Greco-Roman Wrestling)(4-0) take on the seemingly unstoppable Royce Gracie(Gracie Jiu-Jitsu)(14-1-1). Will Coutures strength and wrestling be too much for Gracie or can the master of Jiu-Jitsu tap out the bigger, stronger and maybe quicker fighter?

UFC 16 - Unstoppable

Opening Matches

Royler Gracie(Gracie Jiu-Jitsu)(5-1) Vs Bas Rutten(Hybrid)(11-4)

Both men went for the win in this good match Royler however proved too hot to handle as a take down went wrong from Rutten and ended with Royler Gracie locking in an Achilles lock for the win in exactly 18 minutes.

Winner - Royler Gracie

Sean Daugherty(Karate)(1-3) Vs Matt Sapp(Traditional Jiu-Jitsu)(5-0)

A Great match especially for young Matt Sapp he took down Daugherty who showed little to no resistance as Sapp used what he knows best in a great submission attack and it was Sapp that submitted him with an arm triangle in only 2.19 of the first round.

Winner - Matt Sapp

Troy Grove(Ground and Pound)(0-1) Vs Dan Henderson(Wrestling)(2-0)

A decent match between two fighters looking to progress their UFC career. It was a classic boxer versus wrestler bout with Grove constantly looking for the knock out punch even though his strength is ground and pound but he was too predictable. In the end Henderson won when he took him down and locked in a tight armbar submission in 21.40.

Winner - Dan Henderson

Tournament Quarter Finals

Paul Varelans(Trapfighting)(3-2) Vs Melton Bowen(Boxing)(3-2)

This tournament was all about someone who was on a bad run showing what they can really do. This was a great exchange but in the end the boxer got KO's with a huge punch and Varelans was announced the winner in only 2.30.

Winner - Paul Varelans

Maurice Smith(3-3) Vs Kazuo Takahashi(PANCRASEism)(6-6)

Maurice Smith had come to the UFC with a decent amount of hype behind him and needed to try and impress in the good match Smith showed what he can do with a TKO win in only 1 minutes and 16 seconds to the enjoyment of the crowd.

Winner - Maurice Smith

3. Jason Fairn(Jiu-Jitsu)(1-2) Vs Jason Delucia(Kung-Fu)(2-3)

Most people would pick Jiu-Jitsu to beat Kung-Fu and this fight would be no different in this poor fight. Fairn did enough to win when he bided his time and once the armbar was applied he won with a quick submission in 15.42.

Winner - Jason Fairn

4. Gerard Gordeau(Karate)(5-7) Vs Ikuhisa Minowa(Catch Wrestling)(0-2)

Gordeau has had some good matches and some bad matches but always puts up a good amount of resistance and in what was a decent match he was unfortunate to end up being floored against the cage with a huge right hand from Minowa just after the 6th minute. Minowa continued the punches to take a TKO win in 6.22.

Winner - Ikuhisa Minowa

Tournament Semi-Finals

Maurice Smith Vs Paul Varelans

The fans loved this good match as both men gave their all but in the end the judges were the ones to pick a winner. They gave Smith a unanimous decision win after 30 minutes of non-stop action.

Winner - Maurice Smith

Jason Fairn Vs Ikuhisa Minowa

Fairn was unlucky in a very average match Minowa showed great resolve to survive the first 5 minutes of intense pressure he was put under by Fairn. His submission skill was enough to see him through as Fairn left an arm in which Minowa locked into an arm triangle for the win in 13 minutes.

Winner - Ikuhisa Minowa

The Final

Maurice Smith Vs Ikuhisa Minowa

This was again a very average match but that will not matter to Minowa. After Smith had cut open Minowa just after 10 minutes there was a messy takedown attempt from Minowa. He eventually took Smith down where Smith showed a lack of submission defence when he had his arm taken and locked into a painful looking Kimura in 19.35.This win crowned Minowa the new Tournament Champion.

The Superfight Title Match

Royce Gracie©(Gracie Jiu-Jitsu)(14-1-1) Vs Randy Couture(Greco-Roman Wrestling)(4-0)

A decent enough match as the undefeated Couture took on Royce Gracie in only his 5th pro fight. Couture showed some powerful wrestling taking down Gracie straight away after a few failed submission attempts from both men the referee stood them up. Gracie took down Couture who was happy to fight from his back, in a moment of genius Couture reversed the take down and ended up moving straight into a mounted position. From there he rained down punch after punch and the referee pulled him away after a TKO win in 3.57.

The winner and new Superfight Champion Randy Couture.

Aftermath - After the fight Couture was interviewed and after the usual respectful comments he stated that this was only his 5th professional fight and he was glad to be a champion. He said that in his first defence he would like to give the chance to another new comer like Matt Sapp to step up and face him.
