TOP STORIES - UFC NEW ERA

GEORGES ST-PIERRE DECLINING

http://o.aolcdn.com/os/fanhouse/content/mma/old/georges.st.pierre.jpg

In the beginning of 2011, Georges St-Pierre was one of the best martial artists in the game. He was the figure of the UFC and was considered by many as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. He began 2011 with a Welterweight title fight against contender Jake Shields. GSP was victorious with a brilliant 5th round submission over the Jiu-Jitsu specialist retaining his welterweight title.

Then everybody was talking about a Superfight against Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, but the bresilien had other plans when he moved to LightHeavyweights.

The only choice remaining for St-Pierre was to defend his title one more time against Diego Sanchez who won his 2 previous fights against Paulo Thiago and Martin Kampmann. In a suprising turn of events, GSP was defeated by Sanchez in the 3rd round with a triangle submission.

After his first lost in 4 years, St-Pierre was challenge by his worst ennemy BJ Penn to a last match between the two and accepted the challenge. Unfortunatly for GSP, he lost a Split decision to the Hawaiien fighter. Thats two loses in a row for St-Pierre and he will now try to make a comeback in the next few weeks.

LOSS: BJ PENN - SPLIT DECISION - POOR - 7/2012 - UFC 142: FINAL CHAPTER

LOSS: DIEGO SANCHEZ - SUBMISSION (TRIANGLE) DECENT - 12/2011 - ULTIMATE ULTIMATE 2011

WIN: JAKE SHIELDS - SUBMISSION (ARMBAR) - DECENT - 4/2011 - UFC 129: GSP VS SHIELDS

TOP STORIES - UFC NEW ERA

ANDERSON SILVA'S DOMINATION

http://www.mmashortsandgloves.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/anderson-Silva.jpg

The best Pound-for-Pound fighter in MMA is undoubtably Anderson "The Spider" Silva. When the New Era began, Anderson Silva was the Middleweight Champion in UFC. His first fight was against fellow brazilian Vitor Belfort. Silva was schedule to defend his Middlweight championship for a record 8th times, but he had problems at the weighs-in and the match would go on but it would be a non-title fight. It wouldn't make such a difference when he crushed Belfort with a first round KO!

After the match, Dana White told Anderson Silva that he had to move to Light Heavyweights or he could find work elsewhere. The Spider accepted the challenge and was put to the test in the LHW division with matches against Ryan Bader and Rich Franklin. After defeating Ryan Bader by a split decision, he won his second match easily against former champion Rich Franklin.

His next match would be against former Light heavyweight Champion Mauricio Rua to decide who would be the #1 contender for Rashad Evans' LHW championship. In fact, Shogun had lost the title to Evans at UFC 128 by 2nd round TKO and then lost to Quinton Jackson by a crushing 2nd round Knockout. Then for the big match between Anderson Silva and Mauricio Rua, Silva made quick work of Rua with a 1st Round KO victory to earn him a Title shot against Rashad Evans.

RASHAD EVANS VS ANDERSON SILVA: LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE

The LHW championship match was signed for UFC 145: Evans vs Silva in Texas. It was the first match between the two fighters and there was much respect between them, but when the match began it was much different with Anderson Silva being more agressive then ever jumping on Evans. The one sided affair ended with a massive right hand to the chin by Silva at 0:22 of round 2 and Anderson Silva was the NEW LightHeavyweight Champion!!

WIN: RASHAD EVANS - KNOCK OUT (PUNCH) - FANATASIC - 10/2012 - UFC 145: EVANS VS SILVA

WIN: MAURCIO RUA - KNOCK OUT (PUNCH) - GOOD - 5/2012 - UFC 140: ULTIMATE JAPAN

WIN: RICH FRANKLIN - KNOCK OUT (KNEE) - POOR - 12/2011 - ULTIMATE ULTIMATE 2011

WIN: RYAN BADER - SPLIT DECISION - POOR - 6/2011 - UFC 131: SILVA VS BADER

WIN: VITOR BELFORT - KNOCK OUT (KNEE) - GREAT - 2/2011 - UFC 129: SILVA VS BELFORT

Can you maybe say what happened with there fighters, Phil Davis, Frankie Edgar, Mark Hominick & Sam Stout?

PHIL DAVIS (10-1) (2-1)

After 2 easy victories against Cyrille Diabate and Kyle Kingsbury, Phil Davis was rank #8 in the LHW division. He went on to fight Thiago Silva(#4) in a match that would bring the winner closer to a title fight. Davis lost his first fight to Thiago Silva by 1st round submission.

FRANKIE EDGAR (13-3-1) (0-2)

After his draw with Gray Maynard at UFC 125, he lost the rematch and his lightweight title to Maynard in July 2011. He took some time off to be with family and friends and returned at UFC 141 only to lose against Evan Dunham in an awful Unanimous Decision.

MARK HOMINICK (22-9) (2-1)

Mark Hominick began 2011 with a bang with a Featherweight Championship win over Jose Aldo. A first round KO victory that earned Hominick Knock Out of the Year award. In his first title defence, Hominick faced Japanese figher Michihiro Omigawa and lost a fantastic battle by 3rd round submission. Then returning to action, Hominick defeated Yuji Yoshino to get back in title shot picture.

SAM STOUT (17-8-1) (1-2)

Sam Stout isn't where many thought he could be, after a lost to Mark Bocek, he came back with a win over Gabe Ruediger and finally in a match he was supose to win, he lost to Bart Baleszweski. He is now one mistake away from being cut by the UFC.

THIS MONTH IN THE UFC

FEBUARY 2013

Georges St-Pierre Victory

With GSP's victory against Forrest Petz, he is going back to his winning ways but he is still far away from a title shot opportunity. For now, he is not even in the Top10 welterweights in the UFC, but by the time the welterweight tournament is over, he might be one of the top contenders.

UFC Welterweight Tournament

The Quarter-Finals are over and the match-ups for the Semi-Finals are ready. There will be two great matches Rick Story will be waiting for Thiago Alves to return after his victory against Martin Kampmann and BJ Penn will face Josh Koscheck in the near future.

UFC Middleweight Tournament

The Final is set! It will be Demian Maia facing Yoshihiro Akiyama. The Japanese fighter is ready to fight, but he will have to wait a month or two before he can face his opponent for the UFC Middleweight Championship!

Anderson Silva is still on top

After another domination victory by Anderson Silva, there is talk of fights against fellow brazilians Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Thiago Silva and former champion Lyoto Machida. Also Anderson Silva could give one last chance to Randy Couture who's coming off victories against Mauricio Rua and Renato Sobral, but Couture could move up to Heavyweight for the end of his career.

TOP STORIES - UFC NEW ERA

THE ULTIMATE FIGHTERS

http://www.mma-manifesto.com/images/stories/the-ultimate-fighter-logo.jpg

THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER 13 - THE LIGHTWEIGHTS

The Ultimate Fighter 13 edition was a 16-man tournament in the Lightweight division. The Coaches for that season were Junior Dos Santos and former UFC Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. Each coaches selected 8 fighters and then 2 8-man tournament were scheduled.

In the first tournament. Japanese fighter Kotetsu Boku (Team Dos Santos) was victorious with wins over former WEC fighters Kamal Shalorus, John Makdessi and Ricardo Lamas.

In the second tournament. Canadien fighter Mathieu Autotte (Created) (Team Lesnar) was victorious with wins over Tie Quan Zhang, Anthony Njokuani and Danny Castillo. This unknown fighter was trained by Georges St-Pierre and David Loiseau in Montreal, Quebec. He is a great Kickboxer but he have some weakness in the ground game.

In the Final, Mathieu Autotte (9-0) defeated Koetsu Boku (20-6-2) to become the Ultimate Fighter 13 Winner.

TUF 13 WINNER: MATHIEU AUTOTTE (10-0)

THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER 14 - THE HEAVYWEIGHTS

The last time the Heavyweights were on display in The Ultimate Fighter, internet sensation Kimbo Slice was the main attration, but after losing in the first round, UFC fans were disappointed with the caliber of the show. This year with coaches Randy Couture and Tito Ortiz, the caliber of fighters was something else. Big names such as Steve Bossé, Daniel Puder, Chad Griggs, Dave Herman and Aleksander Emelianenko were introduced on the show.

In the first tournament, new comer and former NCAA wrestling champion Mark Ellis was victorious with a convincing win over Steve Bossé in the final.

In the second tourmament, russian star Aleksander Emelianenko was victorious with a win over wrestler Daniel Puder.

In the final, Aleksander Emelianenko defeated Mark Ellis to become The Ultimate Fighter 14 Winner.

TUF 14 WINNER: ALEKSANDER EMELIANENKO (21-4)

THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER 15 - LIGHTHEAVYWEIGHTS

This edition of the show was a bit different with coaches being from outside the UFC. The coaches were two UFC Hall of Famers: Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell and brazilian legend Royce Gracie. The cast of TUF15 was probably the most skilled and experience fans had ever seen. Almost half of the fighters were on the blurcat's top 25 list.

In the first tournament, Jan Blachowicz was victorious. It was a suprising victory for the polish fighter who won his matches against Nik Fekete, Raphael Davis and Alexander Gustafsson whom were all in the top25 LightHeavyweights of the World.

In the second tournament, Alexander Ribeiro emerged victorious after he defeated Tony Bonello, Givanildo Santana and Jimi Manuwa. Maybe he had an easier route to the final but he was impressive in every fight he had.

In the Final, Alexander Ribeiro defeated Jan Blachowicz by Submission to become TUF 15 Winner!
