Shark Fights Lightweight Championship

Karen Darabedyan © 12-4 Vs. Calvin Kattar (13-2)

The poor champ is only 4th in the division he's the champ of! He's got a point to prove. Plus he has a girl's name.

Bantamweight Division

Douglas Frey (10-4) Vs Chris Mickle (30-15-2)

Frey to climb the rankings and challenge later on.

Middleweight Division

Ralek Gracie (4-2) Vs. Charley Lynch (7-1)

I'm going for Charley, because his name sounds like lunch.

Light Heavyweight Division

Albert Levesque (1-1) Vs. Carlos Augusto Inocente (5-2)

I'll take a punt that Levesque's loss was unlucky and that he's a future star in the making.

Bantamweight Division

Demetrious Johnosn (9-3) Vs Kian Pham (7-7)

Seems like Pham is a wildcard where he may turn up but perhaps not. I'll wager the guy with the far more consistent record will end up victorious here.

Shark Fights 43: Darabedyan Vs Kattar

Live from the Fair Park Colliseum in Lubbock Texas, Friday, July 27th 2012.

Bantamweight Division

Demetrious Johnson vs Kian Pham

The show started off with a bantamweight clash, as former UFC contender Demetrious Johnson tried to recover from the loss he had in his debut (albeit at Featherweight), taking on the debuting Kian Pham.

The first two rounds were spent mainly on the floor, with Johnson controlling the first one off his back, and Phan controlled the second on top. The third round was spent standing up, and was spent with both fighters swinging at each other, close round, let's go to the judges scorecards! All three judges score it 29-28, to the winner, Demetrious Johnson.

Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson defeats "Karnage" Kian Pham by unanimous decision.

Light Heavyweight Division

Albert Levesque vs Carlos Augusto Inocente

Albert Levesque is a regen (of Elvis Sinocic) who made his pro debut for Shark Fights, submitting Yoel Palacio, his second fight he lost to TUF alumni Sam Hoger, but he looks to get another win under his belt, against Carlos Inocente, who's been on a losing streak in Shark Fights against Houston Alexander and Danny Valimaki.

The fight starts off with Levante trying body kicks, Levesque avoids the first, catches the second and takes him down, he slowly moves into side control, and into full mount, he tries to lock in an armbar, and gets it! Inocente taps out!

"Perfection" Albert Levesque defeats Carlos "Guto" Augusto Inocente by Submission (Armbar) in 2:18 of round 1

Middleweight Division

Ralek Gracie vs Charley Lynch

Son of Rorion Gracie, Ralek is coming off a loss against Tamdan McCrory, takes on Charley Lynch, who comes off the first loss of his career.

The first round is a back and forth on the ground, a jiu jitsu showcase of sorts with numerous submission attempts. Second round is a very boring round with both men wanting to go to the ground, but neither men letting the other take them down. The third round is another one on their feet, trying to take each other down, but at the end of the day, Lynch manages to use jabs to keep Gracie at a distance, judges scorecards say 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28, to the winner Charley Lynch!

Charley Lynch defeats Ralek Gracie by unanimous decision

Featherweight Division

Douglas Frey vs Chris Mickle

Douglas Frey is coming off a 3 fight win streak, and has announced after this fight, win or lose, he's moving down to his more natural bantamweight, as he takes on Chris Mickle, the 28 year old with over 45 fights, who has so far won both his fights in Shark Fights and is looking to make a legitimate push for the title if he can win this fight.

The fight starts off with Frey making a few takedown attempts, unsuccesfully, he does however manage to get Mickle up against the cage, where he spends a few minutes roughing up Mickle with dirty boxing, about half way through the fight and Mickle retaliates with a trip takedown, Mickle now on top of the floor, quickly moving past guard, and grabbing the ankle lock, he sinks it in and Frey taps!

Chris "Mad Dog" Mickle defeats Douglas Frey by Submission (Ankle Lock) in 3:40 of round 1

Shark Fights Lightweight Championship

Karen Darabedyan © vs Calvin Kattar

It's tiiiiiiiiiime. Karen Darabedyan came into Shark Fights with a victory over Estevan Payan, after a three-fight stint in WEC where he went 1-2, he came back, taking on Daniel Straus, losing by unanimous decision, he came back from that fight to get a decision victory over Kron Gracie, and earning himself a rematch against Daniel Straus, this time, it was for the Lightweight Championship. He set himself on top of the Shark Fights lightweight fixtures when he submitted him by an armbar, and then defending his title against Andy Main with an armbar too, can he defend the title a second time? With another armbar perhaps?

Calvin Kattar is the man standing in the way of Darabedyan's keeping his lightweight title, the young striker has come into Shark Fights and won his first 2 fights against J.J. Ambrose and Dan Lauzon, with a Knock out and a unanimous decision, respectively.

The first round started off with them going back and forth on their feet, half way through the round, the champ goes for a quick double leg takedown and gets it, a few punches get blocked by Kattar, Darabedyan tries to advance but he can't get his leg out of half guard, he keeps working on advancing and finally does, getting the mount, he quickly transitions this into an armbar attempt, but just as he's about to get it locked in, the round is over! Definitely a 10-9 round for the champ.

The second round starts with Kattar attempting body kicks and headkicks, missing them all, even getting his leg caught and being taken down by a judo trip, Darabedyan quickly works his way back to the mount, attempting another armbar, he doesn't quite get it locked in and instead Kattar works his way into side control, he tries to throw a few punches, but they're clear attempts to just catch a breath, he tries to work off and stand back up, and the buzzer goes. Probably another 10-9 round for the champ, but a close round either way.

The third round starts off slowly, with a few punches being thrown and blocked by both men, a vicious right head kick though lands by Kattar, and the champ is down, Kattar quickly mounts on him, but Darabedyan recovers and sweeps him, ending back up on top, Karen throws a few big punches, but ineffective in the challenger's guard, Katter tries a few big elbows from the bottom, but Darabedyan avoids them, time is slipping away while Darabedyan keeps Kattar grounded, throwing a few useless punches. With less than a minute left, the referee stands them up, but this doesn't turn into any more action, and the buzzer goes, 10-9 round to Kattar.

Kattar's corner is heard shouting at him to finish the fight, but it might be hard, as he's looking really gassed, and gets taken down quickly, the two spend another minutes just grounding it out on the floor, Karen looks gassed, but manages to find an arm triangle, locks it in, and Kattar taps! The fight is over, Darabedyan retains the championship!

Karen Darabedyan defeats 'The Boston Finisher' Calvin Kattar by Submission (Arm Triangle) in 3:30 of round 4
