Ladies and Gentleman, my name is Steve Shaw, and I am pleased to be the new head coach of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. I think we can do great things here. I know that, traditionally, Wake has had Below Average prestige and Alumni Funding. I will not let that dissuade me. Remember, I graduated from South Carolina, so I know all about losing. I don't plan to lose here. Thank you in advance for your patience. I wish he blocked better, but he will be a big contributor for 2 years. Orr is a slow possession guy, but he will be the #2 option. WIlliams is a burner and has the most upside of the remaining guys. I would redshirt Lavelli, but the game has a bug which prevents it, so he will play some. [B]Recruiting Plan:[/B] We definitely need both a stud and quality depth here. We will bring in at least 2 and maybe 4 guys. [U]TE[/U] Lee doesn't have good hands, but we don't plan on him catching many passes. We will start him and redshirt Harris, unless Lee gets hurt. Both are very strong and nasty, but Eley is much more durable than Dillard. Bierria will be the main backup if he makes his grades (1.84 GPA). Loughheed is an absolute stud in the making and will redshirt. He and Eley will wreak havoc in the future. [B]Recruiting Plan:[/B] Bring in 1 guy. [U]OG[/U] This is a bit bleak. Fikse and Hall will start. Hall has the most upside, but is a bit undersized. Fikse gets the nod because he is very disciplined. Kelly and Middlebrooks are adequate reserves and will get a look if the starters falter. [B]Recruiting Plan:[/B] Bring in 1 guy. [U]C[/U] Hardy has the most talent, but he will redshirt to get his grades up (1.71 GPA). Sherrard will start because he is disciplined and durable in addition to the best blocker. [U][b]Scouting and Budget[/b][/U] I choose the College Guru scouting service, the best in my region. I figure I need all the help I can get. We tweak the budget a bit and advance to the next stage. [U][b]Offensive/Defensive Philosophies[/b][/U] Based on the strength of our DL, the 4-3 is a pretty easy choice and gives us a lot of flexibility. The key will be keeping our DL starters healthy. I'm no fan of the option, but it fits our talent very well. We have a few running QBs and good talent and depth at RB. I will tweak the gameplan to give more carries to our RB than the FB. [U][b]Scheduling[/b][/U] We need 3 opponents. I plan to play the worst teams with the highest prestige. Easy, huh? After we finish, our schedule looks like this:

[b][u]Week 1[/u][/b] Open date. I don't see any point in looking at recruits, since we can't do anything with them. Can't put them on a watch list, mark them, anything. Pretty useless. What do the rest of you do with this aspect of the game? [b][u]Week 2[/b][/u] Our first opponent is @Pittsburgh. They run a Smash Mouth offense, which hopefully plays into our strength on the DL. They lost to NC State 24-17 and gave up 542 yards of offense to them. This should give us a nice barometer for the rest of the season. [b][u]Gameplan[/u][/b] I go to the gameplanning screen and find that the AI suggests the WAKE_Pass offense. I disagree and go with the predefined WAKE_Normal offense. I'm not a micromanager when it comes to game plans. It just doesn't interest me. I use the "Suggest" button for my starters' playing time. Our defense bent but didn't break, forcing several punts after Pitt meandered into our territory. One of our stud OTs, Dillard, is out. I hope Bierriera can fill in adequately, but he had 2 holding penalties last game. That's one reason he wasn't starting. I have several players in academic danger, so I decide to take over managing the academic part of the game. I HATE doing that, but until the patch comes out, I see no other choice. [b][u]Week 4[/u][/b] Ah, mighty Duke. We should definitely win this one, but you never know. I decide against playing DE King at DT, at least for now. I'll see how my 3rd string DT fares against a weak opponent before making that move. I accept all the AI suggestions as far as gameplanning goes, except I do tweak the late-game play selection to a very run-heavy philosophy. Hopefully we'll get the chance to try it out. Duke runs the Fun & Gun offense (did Spurrier not leave?) and has the 112th ranked defense in the country... and they're favored by 14. Not a good sign. They are 1-2, having lost to 2 top 25 teams. I think it might be time to give QB Couch a start and see how he does. The secondary had 5 mental mistakes, which is unacceptable against a throwing team. [u][B]Week 5 Review[/B][/u] Well, we had the game under control until right before the 2nd half. UVa marched down the field in about 1:30 at the end of the 1st half, lighting up our secondary. The torching didn't stop from then on. Their QB was lights out (34/40 - 403 - 4 TD). It didn't help that our stud SS Saint Johnson went out with an injured spleen in the 1st quarter. How bad is he hurt? Let's see. In the mailbox, we get a mix of good and bad news. [quote]Weekly injury report TE Kurt Lee is recovering from an injury to his Forearm (Torn Tendon). [B][U]Week 6 Review[/U][/B] Well, that was a good win. I'm puzzled as to why Gibbs didn't get more carries, but he and Michel did well. WR Ferguson has his usual strong game. Getting Dillard back helped, but Simonton did nothing. Let's check on the injuries: [quote]Weekly injury report TE Kurt Lee is recovering from an injury to his Forearm (Torn Tendon). He seems to be progressing well and we recommend playing him this week. OT Bobby Dillard is currently battling an injury to his Elbow (Torn Tendon). He is getting better and able to play, but you might want to sit him out one more week. OLB Gene Mehl is recovering from an injury to his Groin (Torn Muscle). He seems to be progressing well and we recommend playing him this week. CB Eric Coia is struggling with an injury to his Forearm (Stress Fracture). He is able to play this weekend, but I don't think he would be anywhere close to 100%. The smart move would be to let him sit and check again next week. CB Eric Hopkins is trying to play through an injury to his Neck (Laceration). He seems willing to give it a go, but we would recommend giving him another week to recover. FS Izell Roan is trying to play through an injury to his Jaw (Broken). He seems willing to give it a go, but we would recommend giving him another week to recover. FS Ken-Yon Tarkenton is trying to play through an injury to his Elbow (Torn Cartilage). He seems willing to give it a go, but we would recommend giving him another week to recover. [B][U]Week 7 Review[/U][/B] Really not much to review. We got smoked. To add, well, injury to insult, we lose our leading receiver WR Keith Ferguson for 3-5 weeks with a scratched cornea. We need this off week. [B][U]Week 8[/U][/B] No game

[B][U]Week 9 Review[/U][/B] Well, we played OK. Some nice performances: Reserve DE King had 3 sacks and LB Benjamin had 2 sacks in addition to 7 tackles. DE King will get the nod over DE McNair, who has not been playing up to his talent. Our DBs keep getting torched. We have to make that position a recruiting priority. More bad news came from the training room: [quote]Weekly injury report WR Keith Ferguson is recovering from an injury to his Eye (Scratched Cornea). He seems to be progressing well and we recommend playing him this week. WR Chidi Lavelli is out a couple months with his Foot (Complete Ligament Tear). We will do what we can to get him back into action as soon as possible, but we can't make any promises at this point. TE Kurt Lee is recovering from an injury to his Ankle (Stress Fracture). He seems to be progressing well and we recommend playing him this week. OT Bobby Dillard is recovering from an injury to his Elbow (Torn Tendon). He seems to be progressing well and we recommend playing him this week. C Robert Stephens is currently battling an injury to his Elbow (Fracture). He is getting better and able to play, but you might want to sit him out one more week. CB Eric Coia is trying to play through an injury to his Forearm (Stress Fracture). He seems willing to give it a go, but we would recommend giving him another week to recover. CB Leon Allen is recovering from an injury to his Elbow (Nerve Injury). He seems to be progressing well and we recommend playing him this week. FS Ken-Yon Tarkenton is recovering from an injury to his Elbow (Torn Cartilage). He seems to be progressing well and we recommend playing him this week. SS Saint Johnson will not be playing this week because of his Spleen (Bruised). Looks like WR/ST Lavelli is gone for the year and SS Johnson aggravated his injury, CB Coia and C Stephens will sit as well.
