The thirty strong live audience saw the best professional wrestling that the independent circuit has to offer. I was lucky enough to be seated at ringside along with Eric Garigiulo and Scott Hudson who were providing commentary for future DVD releases.The competitors were pumped. Each man knowing that an impressive victory could bring him one step closer to the HWA World Heavyweight Championship. And things started, quite appropriately, with a bang! Was it a bird? Was it a plane? NO! It was young Jefferson Hardy! The charismatic Carolina resident was greeted like a rockstar, which was more than could be said of his opponent Mr Ooh La La. Jefferson took little time to run rings around his more experience opponent, spinning him round and around in a manoeuvre he's titled "Jeffersons Aeroplane." From there it was elemental, as Jefferson ascended the ropes and crashed down with a huge swanton bomb. Next up was the battle of the big boys, as Terry Richards went to battle with Muscle. Both men swung for the fences early on, and it took a huge toll on their bodies. The intensity of the man they call Rhino proved to be too much for Muscle to handle, as Richards hit a huge spear and covered for the pinfall. As the exciting in ring action concluded, we were joined by Joe E Legrande who swaggered his way to ringside. He told the fans in attendance that by the end of his match, they will all be chanting his name, and he will continue his march towards the HWA title. The fans didn't seem so sure though, and let him know it in no uncertain terms! Mikey Whipwreck had heard enough and came charging to the ring! The young upstart was like a house on fire, hitting Legrande with everything but the kitchen sink! He had the crowd in his hands, and the match in his grasp...but Legrande had other ideas. With the referees attention elsewhere, the cowardly Legrande hit his opponent with a low blow, and one jumping DDT later, Legrande was having his hand raised in victory. Next to the ring was our resident former football player, Darren Drosdov. Darren told the fans that he has the winning mentality to succeed at whatever he puts his hand to. He said he sees himself as The Quarterback of The HWA, and as long as the fans and the management put their trust in him, he will drive them all the way to the endzone! Darrens opponent Cannonball Grizzly had other ideas! He said that Darren may think he's a tough guy, but he promises him that he hasn't faced anybody quite like him! It was a credit to Drosdovs never say die attitude that he frustrated the humongous Grizzly for so long. Cannonball didn't quite know how to handle the energetic upstart, and despite dominating for much of the match, Grizzly just couldn't put the former NFL man down for the count. Perhaps trying to take advantage the way that Legrande had earlier, Cannonball went outside to fetch a chair, but was caught red handed by the referee who threw the match out! Drosdov may have won the match via disqualification, but Cannonball had the last laugh, as he waffled Darren with the chair leaving him down on the canvas! Drosdov was escorted to the backstage area by officials who declared that his injuries were short term and that Drosdov shouldn't be out of action for long. In the semi main event of the evening, Steve Corino and Ron Killings put on a great showcase for their respective styles. The raw potential of Killings was clear to see, and his razzle dazzle certainly won him a few admirers, despite his constant heckling of the crowd. Corino was class personified, displaying a crispness that only comes with the dedication he puts into his craft. Corino proved to be a little too much for Killings to handle, but it was a promising display from the former rapper. By the time our main event rolled around, the crowd where chomping at the bit! Jerry Lynn was the first to the ring and he made his feelings clear that he didn't care whether the fans cheered or booed him, he was only here to win. Norman Smiley on the other hand played up the crowd and whipped them into a frenzy! The match itself was nothing short of phenomenal. The action so far had been amazing, but this match was on another level. The experience of both men, and their in ring ability really shone, and the crowd loved every minute of it. Smiley continued to play to the crowd but was all business when he needed to be. Jerry Lynn is not a man to suffer fools gladly! Fans looking for a fairytale ending to an amazing evening were sorely disappointed, as the fans favourite Norman Smiley fell foul to a great opponent. Smiley put his all into the match, but on the day, he didn't quite match up. On another day, who knows? One thing is for sure, if these two men meet again we are guaranteed an amazing night! HWA Endurance is only three weeks away, where one combatant will have to wrestle twice in one night as they strive to claim the HWA World Heavyweight Championship. Fans votes are still being counted, but we can confirm that HWA officials have just come to terms with another world class athlete who will join the HWA ranks at Endurance. He is a man who has wrestled for every major promotion in North America. He is a man has seen it all. Grizzly was competing with tag team partner Robbie Brookside for the German based promotion "Catch Wrestling Association." Grizzly and Brookside defeated former champs Christian Eckstein and Ulf Herman in what has been called a must watch encounter. Our congratulations go to Grizzly and his partner Brookside. The votes have been counted and verified, and we can exclusively reveal the four men who will compete in the one night tournament for the HWA world heavyweight championship at HWA Endurance. Despite strong showings from the likes of Darren Drosdov and Norman Smiley, the decision was unanimous. Your four contenders for the biggest prize in professional wrestling are: Combatant Number One: Jefferson Hardy Despite being involved in the first match of the evening, the exciting youngster certainly stuck in your mind! Jefferson Hardy may be considered an outside bet to walk away with the HWA championship, but the dark horse tag is one he doesn't mind holding. "My thanks to y'all for giving me this huge opportunity to prove myself. Two victories in one night is a huge ask but I'm in a confident place right now. The biggest dreams are always the hardest to achieve and the most satisfying to savour." Combatant Number Two: Jerry Lynn Hardy's first round opponent at HWA Endurance will be the man who was successful in our Big Bang main event, Jerry Lynn. Lynn was incredibly impressive last time out against Norman Smiley leading to him being the most voted for combatant on the roster. Lynn has to be considered an early favourite, but he certainly wont be resting on his laurels. " The hard work begins now. Make no mistake, Jefferson is an exciting prospect, but he's just that. A prospect. I'm the finished article. And it's going to take a lot of blood and sweat, a lot of craft and experience to make it all the way to The HWA world championship. I will prevail." Combatant Number Three: Steve Corino Corino faced tough competition in Ron Killings at Big Bang but managed to pull off a hard fought victory. He hopes to use this momentum to catapult himself into the title picture at Endurance. The groundswell of support from the HWA faithful has given him this opportunity, but what are his chances of coming out on top? " One on one, on any given day, I fancy myself to beat anybody on the roster. No doubt. The variable comes when you have to compete in two matches on one night and that has to change your mindset. That's where the conditioning comes in to play. So my goal is to defeat whoever I face in the first round as quickly as possible and hope I've got enough left in the tank for the final." Combatant Number Four: Terry 'Rhino' Richards The Man They Call Rhino reaches the tournament on the back of an impressive victory over a very game Muscle. Richards take no prisoner approach and smashmouth style made him an easy pick for the HWA faithful and he is certain to cause Corino more than a few problems. Richards was unavailable for comment, his management stating that his training programme could not be interrupted. All they would say is that Rhino would be ready and that the rest of the field better watch out. So there we have our four combatants in what is sure to be an amazing night of professional wrestling!
