Prelims (Facebook)

Brad Tavares defeated Tim Credeur via Unanimous Decision

Francis Carmont defeated Chris Camozzi via Unanimous Decision

Daniel Downes defeated Ramsey Nijem via Unanimous Decision

Brandon Vera defeated Eliot Marshall via Knockout (Knee to the Face) in 4:36 of Round 2

Tyson Griffin defeated Bart Palaszewski via Unanimous Decision

Prelims (Spike TV)

Dennis Siver defeated Sam Stout via Unanimous Decision

Hatsu Hioki defeated George Roop via Unanimous Decision

Alright. Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg are welcoming us to tonight's events, here's the first fight.

Main Card

Heavyweight Bout

Matt Mitrione vs Cheick Kongo

Round 1

Slow start to this fight. Mitrione cannot find his reach and Kongo is punishing him with leg kicks early. Kongo has bloodied Mitrione's nose, though, I'm not entirely sure how it happened. They both come together and trade for a moment, Mitrione clinches, clearly losing that battle. Kongo pushes him away and is relentless with the leg kicks. Round one ends with Kongo pushing the pace.

Round: Kongo

Round 2

More of the same. Mitrione's movement is non-existant, as the leg kicks have caused massive swelling on his thigh. Wow, Kongo nails a HUGE head kick, it doesn't fade Meat Head though. Mitrione is no longer circling and is a sitting duck. Kongo with a flying knee. The end of the round is coming with Meat Head taking a lot of punishment.

Round: Kongo

Round 3

Mitrione's corner let him know that he's losing. He's comes out throwing bombs! He's not connecting though. Kongo is playing careful since he knows he's winning. Kongo drops Mitrione with a counter left. He's on top of him landing some hammer fists. Mitrione is able to get to half guard, but Kongo steps up and asks Mitrione to do the same. Final minutes of this round, Mitrione is still swinging for the fences. End of fight.

Round: Kongo

Decision: Cheick Kongo defeats Matt Mitrione via Unanimous Decision (30-27)

Analysis

Great fight for Cheick. That's two in a row (would have been four if he hadn't had the point deducted away in the Travis Browne fight that resulted in a DRAW). Kongo is never going to be a serious contender for the belt, but he can be fun to watch. I picked Mitrione for this fight. He's still has a lot of improving to do.

Bantamweight Bout

Jeff Curran vs Scott Jorgensen

Round 1

These guys come right out of the gate with speedy strikes. Jorgensen doing a great job of mixing up his strikes. Curran with an attempted takedown that he eventually gives up. Curran ate several stinging blows trying for that takedown. Jorgensen with some nice crisp shots. This is an exciting fight! Curran again with a takedown attempt that Jorgensen shrugs off. Jorgensen actually takes Curran down with the last few seconds of the round. Great round.

Round: Jorgensen

Round 2

Jorgensen nails several punishing punches to the face of Curran. He is pushed against the cage. Jorgensen is teeing off! Curran with a takedown attempt, yes, he got it. Short elbows to the face off Jorgensen. Jorgensen is cut on the bridge of the nose. Stalemate. Ref stands them back up. Jorgensen goes for a head kick, but again Curran takes him down. Round ends with Curran on top.

Round: Curran

Round 3

Curran tries for another takedown. Jorgensen straps on a standing guillotine! It's not very deep, but he knees Curran in the head three times. Jorgensen with a hard kick to the body. Curran again goes for the takedown, again he is stuffed and is punished for even trying. Both guys show no sign of fatigue during the closing minutes of the fight. Curran with a desperation takedown, but Jorgensen doesn't allow it.

Round: Jorgensen

Decision: Scott Jorgensen defeats Jeff Curran via Unanimous Decision (29-28)

Analysis

Both guys needed this win. Jorgensen is one win away from a Bantamweight title fight. Both guys put on a very scrappy, gutsy performance, but in the end, Jorgensen bested The Big Frog.

Heavyweight Bout

Mirko Filipovic vs Roy Nelson

Round 1

Nelson looks like he wants to stand and trade with Mirko. Nelson doing a good job of moving around. Mirko with a nice leg kick. Nelson didn't like that too much. He fakes a take down attempt and nails Cro Cop. Good body shot by Nelson. Nelson is definitely the aggressor. Cro Cop goes with a head kick, but it was telegraphed by Nelson. Nelson shoots in on Cro Cop, shoves him against the cage. Nice knees, dirty boxing, and elbows by Nelson.

Round: Nelson

Round 2

Cro Cop with a stinging leg kick. Again. Nelson is checking the kicks now. Cro Cop has the center of the octagon now. Nice combination by Cro Cop. Nelson's eye is swollen. Nelson catches Cro Cop's leg and tries for a takedown, doesn't get it. Cro Cop throws a right, but Nelson lands a perfect left hook! Cro Cop is down...and out!!! Wow, what a knockout. There was some serious power behind that punch.

Decision: Roy Nelson defeats Mirko Filipovic via Knockout in 1:08 of Round 2

Post Fight

Mirko announces his retirement from the UFC and MMA. Thanks Cro Cop...for everything!

Analysis

Let's face it, the UFC Cro Cop was the shell of a man that the PRIDE Cro Cop was. It's been a fun ride though and I'll be sad to see him go. Good win for Nelson.

Welterweight Bout

B.J. Penn vs Nick Diaz

Round 1

Penn comes out and takes center of the octagon. Diaz is circling Penn, trying to pepper him with punches. Good head movement by Penn. Penn with a takedown attempt, Diaz let him have it. Diaz, off his back, punching Penn in the face. Diaz tries to lock on a triangle, doesn't get it. Penn tries to go for an armbar, Diaz slips out and stands up. Penn takes him down again. Good ground and pound by Penn to end the round.

Round: Penn

Round 2

Diaz taunts Penn to start the second round. Big right by Diaz. Penn attempts another takedown, but is shutdown. He goes for it again and gets it! Diaz tries to land some elbows, some are connecting. Penn is grounding and pounding. Diaz in butterfly guard, he sure is keeping busy. Penn with some nice punches.

Round: Penn

Round 3

Diaz tries to take Penn down to start off the third round. Nothing happening. Penn locks on a guillotine, but Diaz pushes it off. Diaz has landed more punches while on the feet. Kick by Diaz gets caught by Penn and Penn takes him down. More grounding and pounding. Diaz is trying everything to lock on a submission. That's the end of the fight.

Round: Penn

Decision: B.J. Penn defeats Nick Diaz via Unanimous Decision (30-27 x2, 29-28)

Post Fight

Penn says that he just ruined everyone's plans (he means with Diaz and St. Pierre). Penn wants one last run at a World Title, he doesn't care what weight class.

Analysis

As Penn said, he ruined everything. UFC was banking on big bucks between Diaz and GSP. That's not going to happen now. What's next for both fighters. Penn wants to get in the mix again. Maybe a rematch with Fitch is in order after his fight on the UFC 141 card. As for Diaz, he didn't stay around after the fight to shed any light.

Main Event

UFC Welterweight Championship Bout

Carlos Condit vs Georges St. Pierre ©

Round 1

They touch gloves. Condit with a punch, but GSP shoots in at the perfect time. Condit tries to pull guard, but GSP is reigning down punches. Condit is trying to cover up, but he can't. That's it...fight over! GSP retains his Welterweight for the 7th time! Wow.

Decision: Georges St. Pierre defeats Carlos Condit via TKO in 1:49 of Round 1 to RETAIN THE UFC WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Post Fight

GSP says that he's going to take some time off to rest. He will fight anyone when he is healthy and thanks all his fans.

Analysis

What is going to happen next? Who does GSP fight? Ellenberger, Sanchez, Kos (again, please no), Fitch? He's cleaned out the division. Maybe it's time for him to move up to bigger things. As far as the Condit fight goes, I was really disappointed that we didn't get to see Condit even have a chance. Condit is a great fighter, but made one mistake that led to his end.
