Chaos in Colorado - a new RTG Dynasty

Recommended Posts

((I'm not abandoning my other dynasty, but I want to try more storytelling and not being quite so far ahead in my booking. Hopefully people will enjoy this.))

I could hear the shouting in Mr. Palmer's office as I entered the house through the servant's door. He had asked me to speak with the groundskeeper about some gopher holes he had spotted along the fence. Bruce had known nothing about a problem, but assured me he could check on it later that morning. I was going to report to Mr. Palmer, but paused outside the door to listen.

<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=Random_Male24.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/Random_Male24.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> "I can't believe you father! While I was growing up you kept talking about how a man had to take responsibility for his own actions. You told me that a man doesn't allow others to make decisions for him. Didn't you tell me that half the reason you and my mother broke up shortly after I was born was because you were forced to marry her?"

I recognized the angry voice as that of Derek. He is Mr. Palmer's eldest son. The boy is a bit of a handful at the best of times, but I guess Mr. Palmer had told him about the proposed merger with Collstin Consulting. Of course that merger would require that Derek marry Katarina Collstin.

I remained outside the office. Mr. Palmer hated to have someone walk in on one of his often acrimonious business discussions and I knew he viewed this as just another deal. I strained to her him speak, but Mr. Palmer was speaking in a soft voice, probably thinking it would calm his irate son.

<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=Random_Male24.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/Random_Male24.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> The attempt clearly failed because Derek only shouted louder. "I don't care that this merger will mean millions for Palmer Engineering. What use would those millions be if I have to marry Katarina. Have you ever met her? She's wider than she is tall and her voice frightens children."

Mr. Palmer's response was firm, but unclear. Derek had thrown something at the wall and the crashing of glass covered up what his father was saying.

<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=Random_Male24.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/Random_Male24.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> "I said I'd never do it!" Derek howled in reply. "If you can't accept that, I'll leave."

This time I could clearly understand Mr. Palmer's laughing response. "Son, you just barely graduated high school. There is no one who's going to give you a job that pays what you expect."

<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=Random_Male24.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/Random_Male24.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> Derek laughed. "I already have a job father. Some investors were talking about setting up a new wrestling promotion in Colorado. I convinced them to set me up as their head booker. You're right, it doesn't pay the millions you command, but its something I can build with my own two hands. And someday, I'll come back and impress you.

Derek came storming out of the room. He ignored me as he disappeared up the stairs to the second floor of the house. I stood and watched him go.

I could hear a door thrown open hard enough to slam into the wall upstairs. I was about to make a step towards the stairs when Mr. Palmer cleared his throat. He was standing in the doorway to his office.

"I blew it Jeeves," he told me. "I forgot that unless I made the merger his idea, he'd never go for it."

"Shall I try to talk him out of it, sir?" I asked.

"No," Mr. Palmer said. "Follow him to Colorado and see if you can assist him. Give him a chance to fail on his own."

"Very well sir," I said.

Mr. Palmer turned back into his office and closed the door. The order was obvious. I turned towards the servants quarters, there was a bit of packing I needed to do before the journey to Colorado.

Two days later, I found the small office that the wrestling promotion had rented. Derek had set up in a small office, and was reviewing tapes of independent wrestlers.

I was spending my time trying to understand a bit more about wrestling. Derek had taken over a promotion called Chaos Zone Wrestling. He had provided me a copy of the original proposal that had been presented to the investors.

I didn't really understand the information. Chaos Zone Wrestling was supposed to have a heavy emphasis on modern wrestling. This was supposed to be balanced with many traditional roots, especially those that played to the idea of some wrestlers being good and others evil.

In additional the wrestling was supposed to incorporate the lucha libre style popular in Mexico.

The details meant little to me. I read some notes that the fans would expect a little comedy and sex, and that while the promotion was supposed to be somewhat family friendly, the edge that some promotions liked to use shouldn't be completely absent.

It was still all Greek to me, so I set the paperwork away. I glanced at the accounting. The investors had provided only $1,000, and indicated that they expected the promotion to provide all future funding. Derek did say that he expected several companies to offer funds in exchange for promotional considerations at shows and on posters.

There was a box of envelopes that had been dropped off by the mailman. I knew most would prove to contain DVD's sent in by independent wrestlers hoping to land a contract. I had started to open them when a shadow crossed my desk.

I looked up to see a giant of a man standing there. He had straight brown hair that reached his shoulders, and a thick beard. He measured me with a fierce gaze. <a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=LarryWood.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/LarryWood.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> "You can't be Derek Palmer."

I pointed to the office. "Sorry, I'm Jonathan Reeves. If you want Derek, he's in the office."

The man growled. "Perfect. One moment."

He seemed to almost prowl towards the office. He reached out and grasped the doorknob. I saw the muscles in his arm tense He winked at me and then burst through the door with a roar.

<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=LarryWood.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/LarryWood.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> "I'm looking for the kid Derek! I hear some punk by that name thinks he can book my promotion!" the man boomed out.

<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=Random_Male24.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/Random_Male24.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> "What?" Derek gasped. "Who are you and what reason do you have to barge into my office. We aren't holding tryouts today."

<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=LarryWood.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/LarryWood.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> "Tryouts! I don't need no stinking tryout! I'm going to pulverize you. I'll smash your knees, powder the bones in your hands and destroy your future. You think you can book a promotion! You haven't a single match to your name!"

<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=Random_Male24.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/Random_Male24.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> "I played high school football," Derek replied boredly. "And the investors gave me this job, so you can't take it away from me."

<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=LarryWood.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/LarryWood.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> I was reaching for the phone when the man started laughing. "I like you kid. You have spunk. But you should realize that I actually can take it away from you. Your investors wanted a successful wrestler in charge and convinced me to be the majority investor. My name is Larry Wood and as of this morning, I own Chaos Zone Wrestling."

<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=Random_Male24.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/Random_Male24.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> "We'll we don't really have a promotion yet," Derek replied. "I'm still trying to figure out who to hire."

<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=LarryWood.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/LarryWood.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> "Good, because I have a few goals for you," the mountain man said. "Remember that failing to achieve these could cause me to fire you."

"First, two years from now, the promotion cannot be in debt. I don't mind if you have a month where the books end in the red, but in December of 2011 I want the promotion to have a positive balance.

Second, we hire upstanding wrestlers here. For the next 16 months, I don't want anyone who's got a reputation for backstage issues or other problems. Check their reputations, if its poor you cannot hire them.

Third and last for the moment, people don't like to see ex-cons. For the next 16 months I don't want to hear that you hired someone who's had problems with the law.

It was Friday and 2 days after Larry had first arrived. Derek had sent out a number of invitations to open negotiations and was still awaiting the first reponses.

Larry came in. I had found that when he wasn't playing the wildman the giant was a surprisingly intelligent man who probably knew more about biochemistry than most of the scientists who worked for Derek's father. Still it was obvious that he loved wrestling and wanted the promotion to succeed.

He nodded at me and then knocked on the open door to Derek's office. Derek looked up.

<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=LarryWood.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/LarryWood.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> "Kid, I forgot two more things for you. First one should be easy, but it goes without saying. Two years from now Chaos Zone Wrestling better be more popular than it is today.

I know, easy, but I needed to make it official.

Next, I've worked with unsafe wrestlers. I don't need to see anyone hurt because they were wrestling some clumsy hack who doesn't understand what they are doing. Be careful when recruiting. I want safe wrestlers. Don't hire anyone who might cause an injury to others in the ring."

It's been another week. Derek had more than a little trouble with the hiring. The late addition to the minimum safety forced him to seek two new wrestlers when a couple of his initial prospects turned out to be sloppy and unsafe. However, he did acquire twelve more workers. the staff as it now stands is.

MAIN EVENT

Larry Wood<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=LarryWood.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/LarryWood.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Psycho heel, color commentator and road agent. He's the owner and gets $800 a month. By far the best performer.

Xavier Reckless<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=XavierReckless.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/XavierReckless.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The quester and former promotion owner is going to play an Arrogant Heel. He's the one negative inflence in the locker room.

Regular Joe<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=RegularJoe.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/RegularJoe.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

a good wrestler and a positive locker room influence. He's going to play an underdog to Larry's Psycho.

Hugh de Aske<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=HughdeAske.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/HughdeAske.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The only foreign wrestler on the roster. He's a solid performer, but quite expensive.

Upper Midcard

Amber Allen<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=AmberAllen.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/AmberAllen.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Taking advantage of the fact that Chaos Zone Wrestling is coed, Derek brought Amber in to play girl-next-door as well as bring in some strong technical wrestling.

amu Galaxy<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=AmyGalaxy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/AmyGalaxy.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

One of the replacements after earlier choices failed their wrestling tests. She's going to start with a time traveller gimmick.

Running Wolf<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=RunningWolf.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/RunningWolf.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Him, big brawling chief. Be interesting to see if he has the right stuff.

Ant-Man<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=Ant-Man.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/Ant-Man.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

He has the right look and decent skills. We'll see if he works out.

Jebediah<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=Jebediah.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/Jebediah.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

He doesn't appear to have many skills, but he's got a nice look. He's starting with his simpleton gimmick.

Midcard and lower

Mark Smart<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=MarkSmart_alt.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/MarkSmart_alt.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

every promotion needs a heel jobber

Derek Palmer<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=Random_Male24.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/Random_Male24.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Head booker and on a Road to Glory.

Kamina Shandel<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=Kamina2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/Kamina2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Third and final girl on the roster. Playing a girl-next-door.

((Kamina is one of 4 characters I've been loading into TEW since 2007. The four are cousins and all start at age 18. I'm using Tresanya in my other dynasty - The Journey of Eric Freer. The other two I've decided to leave alone in the dynasties for now. Kamina is in many ways the weakest of the four and starts with the following stats.

<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=KaminaStatStart.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/KaminaStatStart.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Amber Allen v Derek Palmer - Amber is one of the top few picks for an RTG game.

Hugh de Aske v Ant-Man - Hugh's great - so great that he can job his way to stardom. Ant-Man is nearly as awesome but needs the win more.

Running Wolf v Xavier Reckless - Reckless isn't worth the backstage problems he creates.

FTW Battle Lord Title

Regular Joe v Larry Wood - Joe's one of my favourites, but with Wood as owner you need to build the promotion around him.

Amber Allen v Derek Palmer

Amber should win this, she's pretty good at this level.

Hugh de Aske v Ant-Man

Agree with Jaded here - Hugh will always make it to the top regardless of wins. Ant-Man needs a push.

Running Wolf v Xavier Reckless

Not a fan of either, but can't see Xavier being around long.

FTW Battle Lord Title

Regular Joe v Larry Wood

Joe is a jobber at this point. Wood is the best you have.

Amber Allen v Derek Palmer

Really depends on how you will push your user character.

Hugh de Aske v Ant-Man

Good enough now vs good enough later.

Running Wolf v Xavier Reckless

Wolf has good potential long term, Xavier sucks.

FTW Battle Lord Title

Regular Joe v Larry Wood

Joe is not a jobber but Wood is by far the best.

BTW what stats did you use for your user character?

The night for the first show came. Derek spent the evening before making notes in a small notebook. The promotion had a deal with a bar in Colorado Springs. They allowed the promotion to take over a meeting area they had for one night in exchange for a portion of the ticket prices. I was a bit surprised to find that the bar was claiming 80% of the gate.

However, once we got to the bar, I realized how little money was involved. The hall probably could seat three hundred, but only one small section was opened to the fans, and by the time the show was about to begin only fourteen souls had paid to enter.

<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=CZWbanner1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/CZWbanner1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

This didn't seem to surprise or upset the wrestlers. Larry even had a small smirk on his face as he stood up from the rickety table being used as an announcing station and entered the ring carrying a cordless microphone.

<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=LarryWood.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/LarryWood.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

"Worms! If you claim to be wrestlers get out here!" He paused and I noticed that all of the wrestlers performing tonight emerged from the locker room area. They stood in a rather tight group a short distance from the ring. Larry glared at them. In the dim light it looked like he was foaming at the mouth.

"Now, hear me well. We're here to entertain the crowd. We're not here so you can prance around this ring, crying over every little bump. Wrestling is a tough sport. Mountain men once came out here to these lands to wrestle the bears and cougars that prowled. Well, we don't have a bear for you to wrestle, but if you don't impress these fans, you can wrestle with me. No rules, no little referee for you to hide behind. Just a match where you get to prove that you've got what it takes. So you better be prepared when you get in this ring. There are no excuses. You are here to perform."

Larry climbed back out to return to the announcing booth as the other wrestlers disappeared back to the locker room. I had to admit to being very impressed. The tiny crowd had seemed to almost shy away from Larry as he stalked the ring, ranting at the others, and there was now a definite feeling of expection. [angle grade C]

Then I watched my bosses' son walk to the ring. He was followed by Amber. From my vantage point I sat up slightly, as this would be the first time I had ever watched Derek wrestle.

Amber gave Derek no time to prepare, but stepped around him and locked in a headlock. Derek struggled with her and finally managed to back her into a corner. This caused her to loosen her grip and he stepped away. Amber quickly followed, putting Derek onto the mat with a surprise clothesline and then dropping down to secure some kind of leglock.

Derek fought on, dragging himself towards the ropes. He managed to grab them with his hand and I watched as Elegance tapped Amber on the shoulder. Amber released Derek and rose to her feet. Derek managed to stand as well and quickly charged at Amber.

It happened quickly. Amber stepped aside and allowed Derek to bounce off the ropes. As he ran back at her, she caught him with her right arm and quickly spun him to the mat. Then she used a series of throws to roll him around the ring. A moment later Elegance was slapping the canvas of the mat as Amber had Derek lying defenseless in the ring. Amber wins [match grade E]

<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=Random_Male24.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/Random_Male24.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I have to admit Derek appeared to take the loss well. Elegance was raising Amber's hand in the middle of the ring, much like I remember boxing champions were presented to the crowd. Derek stood up and walked over to her. Then in a move that shocked me he grabbed Amber around the waist and spun her to face him. It was clear he was trying to steal a kiss, but the young woman pushed him away and then stormed off to the back. Derek just posed one last time for the crowd before following her. I was shaking my head. It was so like his father, I had to wonder if it was actually part of the show. [angle grade D-]

I didn't get time to think about it. The next match was about to being. First out was Hugh de Aske. He posed for the crowd, showing off his physique. Ant-man came next, a bit quieter, but somehow prowling toward the ring.

Both wrestlers were strong and quick. However, Hugh quickly took to the top rope, jumping from them and landing some big heavy blows that staggered Ant-man. Ant-man fought back, but a Hugh changed up and on one jump from the top rope, grabbed Ant-man around the head rather than just landing a blow. Before Ant-man could fight free, Hugh fell backwards, dragging Ant-man to the mat. The impact appeared to stun Ant-man and right after that, Elegance was again pounding the mat three times. Hugh wins [match grade E+]

Hugh left the ring, but Ant-man took a moment to get to his feet. As he did Elegance handed him a cordless microphone.

<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=Ant-Man.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/Ant-Man.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> "Hugh, you may have defeated me. But I'm not done. You are an intruder here. This is American soil, and while we'll happily give you a few wins. You'll never take the belt. Not while I can hold you in the air with one hand. And I will beat you, you will lay in this ring stunned when I get you with an Antidote. [angle grade E+]

Ant-man then returned to the back as Running Wolf and Xavier Reckless came out. The only way to describe this match was a wild brawl. The first two matches had a number of moves that I vaguely recognized as wrestling holds and throws. This match was all about standing shoulder blocks and throwing guys at the ropes to clothesline them as they bounced back towards you. Even the fans got a little restless as the duo plodded through their match. Finally, Running Wolf caught Xavier in a clinch and threw him to the match. The count went quick after that Running Wolf Wins [match grade E-]

Larry then entered the ring once again holding the cordless microphone.

<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=LarryWood.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/LarryWood.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> "You've all gotten to see the babies play. They are nothing. They are little children, pretending they know the true job of battling in the ring. I'm the class of this promotion. I've been where they are now, and I tore the ring up. Tonight and every night I'm going to prove to everyone that no one defeats me. I can tear, rend and destroy them all." Somehow he was foaming at the mouth again. His speech was now incomprehensible roars that only ended when Regular Joe stepped into the ring. [angle grade D+]

The match was rather ugly. Larry wanted to perform at a much higher pace than Regular Joe appeared to be comfortable with. They tried to match styles and it clearly wasn't working out. The crowd got into the match, cheering Larry as he casually tossed Joe about the ring. Finally Larry appeared to have enough. He stood Joe in the center of the ring, and with a well-placed knee to the gut, had Joe bending over. Then Larry bounced off the ropes and put his size thirteen book right into Joe's ear. The three count after that was an afterthought. Larry wins [match grade E+]

After that the lights went out and the small crowd filed out. I listened to their comments and noticed that they were very happily surprised by the quality of the angles. They clearly had enjoyed the show and were going to be telling their friends about the next entertainment option. It looks like Derek might have found something he can succeed at. [show grade E+]

The accounting books aren't looking too good after the match. The bar demanded $700 for the storage and setup of the ring, and by the time I had finished cutting checks for all the wrestlers I had paid out $2,674. Derek assures me that he has found several sponsors and that checks will be coming in at the end of the month. All I know is that right now the promotion is deep in debt.

Monday, Week 1, February 2012.

Derek finally received in the sponsor checks and provided me with the totals. It was more than I expected. The promotion made $857 in profit for January. I understand that at the next event CZW Breaking Hearts and Heads, there will be five matches.

Derek says he has the following card planned

Amy Galaxy v Derek Palmer

Hugh de Aske v Jebediah

Regular Joe v Xavier Reckless

Amber Allen v Mark Smart

Kamina Shandel v Larry Wood

I think you need to list winners of each match, plus "Bold" or in some way highlight match and angle grades. It's kind of hard to tell. Also, it looks a bit weird to have the image inline with the angles. It would be nice to separate like the matches. On top of that, you should clearly separate each segment.

Agree this would be useful.

Amy Galaxy v Derek Palmer - Amy's surprisingly good for a Sin City babe.

Hugh de Aske v Jebediah - After beating Ant-Man, Jebediah should be easy.

Regular Joe v Xavier Reckless - Reckless is awful.

Amber Allen v Mark Smart - Smart is jobber for life.

Kamina Shandel v Larry Wood - Wood shouldn't lose for the moment.

The two weeks between the beginning of the month and CZW Breaking Hearts and Heads passed quietly. Derek spent most of his time at a local gym. He fielded a few phone calls from sponsors trying to coax a few more dollars from them, but the general feeling I got was that they wanted to see the promotion get attention outside Colorado before they would start to show serious interest.

But finally the night of the show was upon us. I arrived early to watch the ring being assembled and put into place. The bar workers laughed quite a bit at the idea that the promotion would see more than fifteen people. I ended up shaking my head as the wrestlers arrived and got into their ring outfits.

The night begans with Amy Galaxy walking out to the ring. She claimed a cordless microphone and looked at the crowd. "You all are fortunate to be here. I have seen the future, and unless certain events take place, this world will become a dark and desolate land where children hunger. You might wonder why I choose to wrestle for this small promotion. There is something I must do. I will not reveal the secret. If its revealed too soon, my mission could be ruined. But rest assured, I will protect the peace and prosperity of the free people of this world." Angle Grade E

I must say that this was one of the most ackward matches I've ever watched. Derek might have some experience, but he kept trying to get Amy into a clinch so he could work on some moves. Amy clearly wanted the match to be more flowing, and resisted the slower style. Finally Amy put Derek in a headlock and bulldogged him into the mat. Elegance jumped into count the pin. Amy Wins, Match Grade F

I have to ask myself when and how Mr. Palmer taught his son about women. Just like at the first match, Derek got off the match and tried to steal a kiss from his opponent. Amy didn't seem as surprised as Amber, but pushed him into a corner of the ring and slapped him soundly before storming off to the locker room. Angle Grade E

The crowd got a bit of a laugh out of this match. Hugh came out looking like he was ready for a serious match and Jebediah appeared to have trouble remembering where he was. Jebediah's tactic in the ring appeared to be to hold into Hugh and throw him into corners. Hugh kept trying to duck the wild blows of him opponent. It worked for a while, and the fans roared when Hugh got behind Jebediah and landed a suplex. The move surprised the simpleton and allowed Hugh to hold him down for the three-count. Match Grade E

Hugh then got a microphone. "Well, two matches, two wins. but not the only two wins. People, I'm here to show you good wrestling, strong wrestling, the kind of wrestling that makes hearts race and people cheer. I'm your champion, your fighter. No one disputes the power of Larry. He's a monster who's terrorized rings all over the world. But I've come thousands of miles for a reason, and I'm going to show all of you that I can defeat him." Angle Grade D-

This match looked a bit lopsided. Joe was far more dynamic than Xavier who plodded in the ring. It was hard to not notice the difference in skill here. Finally Joe put Xavier down with a move that ring announcer Lee Bambino screamed out as a "Joe and Behold." I can't say that the name impressed me, but the crowd definitely cheered as Joe held Xavier down while Elegance slapped the mat. Regular Joe wins, Match grade E

Amber is a charming young lady, but in the ring she is clearly extremely skilled. The crowd cheered the wrestling as she and Mark Smart battled in the ring. Amber was clearly being showcased and soon Mark was tied up on the floor. Amber held on for the three count and victory. Amber Wins, Match Grade D-

Larry comes out and grabs a microphone. He demands that the wrestlers come out. A crowd gathers in the locker room entrance.

"I see you still don't get it! We aren't here to play! This is suppsoed to be serious! The fans expect energy! You can't just walk out to the ring and expect the crowd to cheer! Put your bodies into it.! Now I'll demonstrate what I mean. Kamina get your pretty behind in this ring. It's time to show everyone what real wrestling is."

Larry might have promised good wrestling, but once Kamina was in the ring, it played out more like he was taking her behind the woodshed to beat her. Kamina was flung around the ring by a frothing madman who seemed almost casual in his power. Kamina tried to get in close and slow the match down with some holds, but Larry got her with his big boot and then covered her for the three count. Larry Wins, Match Grade E+

----

The match was over. I watched the ten fans walk out of the hall. They appeared extremely happy as the show was even better than January's efforts. Show Grade E+

Amy Galaxy v Jebediah - Jeb has no upside...

Amber Allen v Xavier Reckless - Reckless has less than no upside.

Regular Joe v Ant-man - Both are great for RTG games, Ant-Man probably has slightly more potential.

Hugh de Aske v Derek Palmer - I hope Derek doesn't try and kiss the Dread Pirate...

Running Wolf v Larry Wood [c] - I'd say you want Wood as champion for a year or so then Ant-Man finally topples him...

Well, this dynasty came to an abrupt and slightly confusing ending. I usually try to end a sim set on the first day of a month, because its a good way to remember where I am. I had simmed my March event and was trying to get to the end of the month when I ran into this.

<a href="http://s670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/?action=view&current=howdidthishappen.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i670.photobucket.com/albums/vv68/mvargus/howdidthishappen.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I had gotten a financial warning on the same day in both January and February, but since I ended the month with profits I never thought that the system would be only checking on that particular day.

So sadly, the road to glory for Derek is over this time. I might try again in the future but for now I'm giong to concentrate on my other dynasty.

Dang. Well, you beat me to it. Sad that you went out before at least hitting Small to have a somewhat-reasonable chance at jumping to another company.

Ah, but I wasn't really in financial difficulty. The sequence went like this.

Monday, week 1 Jan - open - balance $1000

Saturday, Week 2 Jan - show - balance $-2700

Friday, Week 4, Jan - Warning for finances

Monday, Week 1 Feb - Sponsor money - balance $1857

Saturday, Week 2 Feb - Show - balance $-1900

Friday, Week 4 Feb - Warning for finances (I thought this was a new one, rather than a second warning.)

Monday, Week 1 Mar - Sponsor money - balance $1880

Saturday, Week 2 Mar - Show - balance $-1900

Friday Week 4 Mar - shut down.

The promotion made money both in January ($757) and February ($23), but the timing of the finance check meant that the system never noticed that I was making money. I guess I should have had the show in March after Friday, Week 4.
