Low effort GAMMA Dynasty

Recommended Posts

I'm just going to be following along with my game on here with the simplest of results. Hopefully you're still interested.

I've taken a game of GAMMA up to January 2001, with the purpose of signing all of the best talent in the world. I know this causes some issues, such as with homegrown stars, but it's too fun not to do. I currently have 84% of the available ranking points. Ignoring the fairly new featherweight division, which is "only" at 66% strength, the other classes range from lightweight's 82% to heavyweight's 93%.

Having just held GAMMA 75, here's the state of GAMMA:

*$119.6 million in the bank.

*Low level international popularity in the U.S. (2.2%), low level national everywhere else

*PPV coverage in South America, Europe, Australia, Russia & Central America (just let my deal expire with Public Access Select; trying to get better U.S. and Canadian deals)

Homegrown stars: Isaiah Monroe & Nathan Chambers, with James Foster & Palmer Lette qualifying but coming off a loss

Black demographic: Chambers, Monroe & Lette

Hispanic demographic: Julio Regueiro

Work done prior to Seek & Destroy 9 and GAMMA 76:

GAMMA signed the following fighters:

*Fletcher Merman, a heavyweight from TOP. Merman went 7-2 in TOP and was their heavyweight champion in 2000 and 2001. Blurcat currently ranks him the 24th best heavyweight in the world.

*Pavel Radulov, a 10-0 welterweight from TOP and their current champion in that weight class. Blurcat ranked: 10th.

*Otto Cascudo, 28-11 middleweight from TOP ranked 23rd in the world.

*Caragh Green, 9-0 welterweight from TOP ranked 18th in the world.

*Owen Oggleberry-Pipp, unemployed 11-0 lightweight. Facing plenty of local competition, Oggleberry-Pipp recorded 10 stoppages in his record.

GAMMA welterweight fighter Mozart Pinto joined House of Pain. Pinto is 8-0.

GAMMA signed a PPV deal with American Option for six shows. PPVs will not be carried in Canada for now.

Current GAMMA Middleweight Champion Buddy Garner received a profile in SportsFan. Possible future Hall of Famer?

Other news:

XCC stripped Ryan Landigham of their Lightweight title after he tested positive for banned substances. Landigham had defeated Kade Devine for the vacant belt in January, 2002. The fight for the vacant belt was necessitated by prior champion Clifton Curry signing with GAMMA.

Manol Sirakov retired after a 66-36 career. He had a three-fight stint in SIGMA in 2000-2001, losing all three.

Cory Brewer also retired. He went 12-5, including 3-3 in XCC.

Laura Adair retired at the age of 29 with a 6-0 record. She never joined a major company.

Helen Fox defeated Jennie Gill in a five round decision to win the WEFF Heavyweight title at WEFF 27. 749 people were in attendance.

FLB 31: Intensity was held on February 2002 in Brazil. Edgar Anderson (3-0, regen of Vincent Chapin I think) beat Vittorio Pescatelli (3-4) for the FLB Heavyweight title. After the show, Pescatelli announced he was leaving the promotion.

Weigh-ins have been held for GAMMA Seek and Destroy 9

Preliminary fights:

Featherweight: Louie Sullivan (9-2) vs. Chan Wan Wah (12-4)

Both of these guys are likely fighting for their jobs; Sullivan's gone 1-2 in GAMMA, Wan Wah 0-2.

Featherweight: Hyobe Kamioka (6-0) vs. Graeme Spark (12-1)

Spark is coming off a loss to Yagi Jokichi. Kamioka is 3-0 in GAMMA.

Lightweight: Guilherme de Barros (8-1) vs. Caca de Andrade (20-9)

de Barros just beat Edson Edmilson, while de Andrade has lost 2 straight and 5 of his last 6.

Light Heavyweight: Wayne Barry (2-1) vs. Kramer Mayweather (4-1)

Barry is a regen catch wrestler with great stats but not comfortable in cages. So far, he's only fought in GAMMA and has recorded two submissions. Mayweather is on a two fight win streak and is 3-1 in GAMMA.

Main card:

Heavyweight: Lefter Oktay (20-1, #5 in the world) vs. Terron Cabal (17-1, #3 in the world)

Cabal is 4-0 in GAMMA and is on a six fight win streak; last time out, he beat Rav Kapur by decision. Oktay is 4-1 in GAMMA, coming off a decision win against Kunimichi Kikuchi.

Light Heavyweight: Curt Kitson (15-1, #3 in the world) vs. Arthur Franco (17-5, #22 in the world)

Franco just lost to Niko Soldo at GAMMA 71. Kitson is 4-0 in GAMMA, with wins over Taneyev, Yamazaki, Villar and Lim. Somehow, Kitson is not even a national star in the U.S.; this fight is being used to promote him.

Weltweight: Nik Minear (13-2) vs. David Webb (21-4, #2 in the world)

Minear is coming off 2 wins in TOP and making his GAMMA debut. Webb is getting some hype in this fight and has won his two GAMMA fights against Sithalayan and Carlos da Guia. Webb is being heavily hyped.

Rhys Buck (8-0, #12 in the world) vs. Nathan Chambers (22-4, #4 in the world)

Young Rhys Buck went on a run to win the BCF Middleweight title before making his GAMMA debut tonight. Chambers has won his last two fights against Kado Deguchi and Neil Napier.

Co-Main Event: Light Heavyweight: Osmosis Benn (19-2, #9 in the world) vs. Nicolai Mickiewicz (25-5, #2)

Benn has won his last 3 GAMMA fights, but missed weight in two of them as a middleweight. This is his light heavyweight debut. Mickiewicz has won his last four GAMMA fights, which includes defeats of Chekhov, Soldo, Kitabatake and Katou.

Main Event for the GAMMA Lightweight Championship: challenger Jake Keane (29-7, #4) vs. champion Luis Basora (25-4, #1)

Keane is rebounding from losing his first two GAMMA matches with four straight wins, his last against Atep of Indonesia. Basora has won his first six GAMMA fights, culminating in a title win against Sukarno and a successful defense against Morrison.

This is the first televised title match in GAMMA.

Predictions are welcomed.

GAMMA Seek and Destroy 9 Results

Prelims:

Louie Sullivan vs. Chan Wan Wah: In a fight that never went to the ground, Sullivan easily outstruck Wan Wah on his way to a unanimous 30-27 decision. Grade: great.

Hyobe Kamioka vs. Graeme Spark: Round one saw Spark score two takedowns and a RNC attempt on Kamioka. In round two, Spark controlled Kamioka against the cage for half a round and stuffed a takedown. Kamioka hulked up before round 3 and successfully got a takedown a minute into the round, but didn't get a guillotine in correctly and gassed his arms. He did manage to take Graeme's back, but time ran out before he could do anything with it. Spark wins a unanimous 29-28 decision. Grade: decent.

Guilherme de Barros vs. Caca de Andrade: A close first round features nothing but strikes. Round two is more of the same, with de Barros holding a clearer advantage in this round. Round three also keeps standing until a clinch happens, during with de Barros stifles de Andrade. de Barros wins a 30-27, 29-28, 29-28 decision. Grade: poor.

Wayne Barry vs. Kramer Mayweather: Barry was able to take the initiative in this one, pursuing takedowns until he got one with Mayweather sitting against the cage. One guillotine attempt later, Mayweather taps and Barry wins at 4:25 in round 1 in the first stoppage of the night. Grade: great.

Lito Alcala vs. Greg Chiang: Alcala was the beneficiary of some hype coming into this. Round 1 has Chiang push Alcala against the cage, only to have it reversed and turned into a trip takedown after a bit. Alcala passed to side control before the end of the round, but Chiang appeared to have won it all the same. Round 2 was a lot more of Chiang controlling Alcala against the cage. Round 3 opens with some minor strike exchanges before Alcala steps into Chiang's pocket and knocks him out with a single right hand at 3:25 in round 3 for a nice, come from behind knockout. Grade: average.

Main card:

Lefter Oktay vs. Terron Cabal: Round 1 opens with an Oktay takedown leading into him getting mount, but not giving himself much time before the end of the round to do anything with it. In round 2, Cabal has an even exchange of striking before Oktay manages a slam. Oktay again gets mount, but time runs out before he does anything at all with it. Cabal is the second fight to get psyched before the last round. Cabal starts off with some decent striking and counters a Lefter takedown try with a big right hand, leaving Oktay wobbly. They start striking at close range, and Cabal finishes it with a big right hook that knocks Oktay out for just his second career loss. This ended at 2:59 in round 3. Grade: good.

Curt Kitson vs. Arthur Franco: Kitson was heavily hyped before this fight. Round 1 almost immediately starts with an attempt to get some up close wrestling going countered by a Kitson right hand that knocks him down. Kitson tried to follow it up with a big ground strike but was pulled into guard. Kitson struggled for a bit but does get into side control and locks on an arm triangle for the tap out victory at 4:19 in round 1. Grade: decent.

Nik Minear vs. David Webb: Webb was heavily hyped in this one. In round 1, Webb played kept away for half the round before getting into a grappling match where Minear pushes Webb against the cage. Webb turns it around and gets a takedown and moves into side control before the end of the match, and probably took that round. Round 2 was a virtual repeat of round 1. Round 3 opens the same way as well, but a right hand from Webb knocks Minear down. Minear evades an attempted armbar used as a follow-up and gets back to his feet. Another takedown and move to side control finishes round 3. 30-27s all the way around give Webb a victory. Grade: decent.

Rhys Buck vs. Nathan Chambers: Chambers was largely hyped before this match. Round 1 opens with Chambers getting a takedown and nailing Buck with some nice shots from guard before just smothering him. The ref stands it back up but Chambers gets another takedown, which is followed by more smothering. In round 2, Chambers holds Buck against the cage for a couple minutes before getting a takedown. Chambers gets into mount but doesn't do damage with his strikes, so the round ends. In round 3, Chambers slams Buck down but gets stuck in guard and accomplishes very little beyond control. Chambers wins a 30-27 decision from all three judges. Grade: poor.

Osmosis Benn vs. Nicolai Mickiewicz: This is our semi-main and Benn was hyped some coming into it. Hope I don't regret that move...

Round 1 has some fighting for position before Benn manages a takedown. Benn easily moves into side control and then mount before launching some strikes which Nicolai does nothing about. The ref stops it at 3:41 in round 1 as Benn wins via TKO. Grade: decent.

Main Event

For the GAMMA Lightweight Championship

Jake Keane vs. Champion Luis Basora: this will be a five round fight, as all title matches are in GAMMA now.

In round 1, Keane tries to step forward into striking distance but Basora pulls a takedown. Basora gets into half-guard and then side control. An arm triangle follows and Keane's locked in and has to tape. Basora defends his title via submission at 4:35 in round 1! Grade: good

Teeratep Nutnum (13-7) vs. Taki Inouye (8-1)

Terry Catt (10-2) vs. Magno Peres Arruda (14-4)

Been a while since I've played this game. Not really sure who Arruda is.

Ademir Coelho (10-4) vs. Hunter Scribbins (8-1)

Scribbins is pretty bad ass.

Heiko Pander (7-0) vs. Jay Dorridge (12-0)

Same with Heiko.

Main card:

Iancu Trailescu (9-1) vs. Ozzy Bintley (8-1)

Bintley should walk right through Trailescu.

Gladstone Lopes (19-2-1, #14) vs. Khru Duangjan (17-3, #12)

A tough call here but I think Lopes will pull through.

Will Kane (18-6) vs. Randy Carsley (6-0, #15)

Probably wrong but I like Kane.

Stuart Strange (21-5, #19) vs. Petey Mack (15-6)

Who was Strange's two fight loss streak opponents? Mack is tough but he should bounce back here.

Dag Kreuger (7-1) vs. Aleksei Chekhov (23-6, #24)

Vikram Sithalayan (20-5, #14) vs. Manuel Silva (15-3, #23)

Should be a good close fight.

Jack Humphreys (25-10) vs. Jim Carpenter (53-14-2)

I like making Carpenter a bad ass in a small promotion. Humphreys should get back on track against him though.

Gyokusho Fujimoto (12-1, #2) vs. Fatuma Roy (23-11)

Should crush Fatuma.

Bud Brockett (13-3, #15) vs. Campbell Crane (11-2, #8)

Crane with a big win over Cabral but Brockett should finish him with gnp.

Lamont Banner (7-0, #3) vs. champion Li-Kong Ho (24-0, #1)

I'm a huge Banner fan, I've had games where he's been 40-0 before finally losing. Ho probably wins this one though.

GAMMA 76: Banner vs. Ho Results

Prelims:

Featherweight: Teeratep Nutnum (13-7) vs. Taki Inouye (8-1): Round one sees Nutnum use strikes to take the round. Round two begins the same way, but Inouye pulls a judo takedown. Nutnum keeps him stuck in his guard. In round 3, Nutnum fought off Inouye with strikes for the majority of the round, but Inouye did get a trip takedown with a minute left in the round. The judges give a 30-27, 29-28, 29-28 decision to Nutnum. Grade: poor

Light Heavyweight: Terry Catt (10-2) vs. Magno Peres Arruda (14-4): Round one is virtually all striking, with Catt holding a solid advantage. In round two, Catt takes Arruda down and takes his back but doesn't get his hooks in before trying a rear naked choke which allows Arruda to flip over into Catt's guard. Arruda is stuck, which allows Catt to slap on an armbar at 4:00 in round two. Grade: decent.

Middleweight: Ademir Coelho (10-4) vs. Hunter Scribbins (8-1): Round one immediately opens with Scribbins getting a takedown and keeping Coelho down the entire round, eventually taking his back and getting hooks in, but can't apply a rear naked choke before the round ends. Round two goes the same way. In round 3, Coelho tries to step into the pocket, which leads to the least surprising takedown in history. At this point, Scribbins is too tired to do anything with it but keep Ademir down. Scribbins earns a 30-27, 30-27, 30-27 unanimous decision. Grade: poor.

Featherweight: Heiko Pander (7-0) vs. Jay Dorridge (12-0): Pander was hyped up for this match. Pander dominates round one with a takedown and gets side control before the round's over. Round two goes the same way, except Pander gets Dorridge's back and locks on a rear naked choke, leading to the tap out at 4:45 in round 2. Grade: good.

Main card:

Heavyweight: Iancu Trailescu (9-1) vs. Ozzy Bintley (8-1): In round one, strikes are exchanged rather evenly until Bintley hits some big rights with little time left and knocks Trailescu down but not out. Round two opens almost immediately with Trailescu with a big left head kick allowing him to mount Bintley. Trailescu then takes Bintley's back and tries a rear naked choke, but doesn't get his hooks in and Bintley flips over. Bintley can't accomplish anything, leading to the ref standing up before the round ends. In round three, they exchange strikes for the entire round until a body kick by Trailescu is countered by a huge right hook by Bintley that knocks him out at 2:27 in round 3. Grade: good.

Heavyweight: Gladstone Lopes (19-2-1, #14) vs. Khru Duangjan (17-3, #12): This was hyped as an exciting match. Round one opens with a few strikes exchanged. About a minute in, Duangjan counters a Lopes body kick with a straight right hand that knocks him out at 1:14 in round 1. Grade: good.

Welterweight: Will Kane (18-6) vs. Randy Carsley (6-0, #15): Round 1: Carsley gets a takedown, moves to side control and unsuccessfully tries an arm triangle. Carsley moves on to mount, takes Kane's back and gets hooks in, but the round ends. In round two, Kane knocks Carsley down with a spinning back kick and tries to follow up with a diving punch, but Carsley avoids it and gets Kane in half guard. Carsley tries a guillotine but doesn't get it locked in right. Kane throws some meager punches down, but accomplishes nothing before the ref stands them back up. Carsley pulls a quick takedown right before the clock ends on the round. In round three, Carsley opens with a takedown, gets mount, throws some elbows, turns an attempted sweep by Kane into taking his back and Carsley locks a rear naked choke in for a submission at 4:09 in round 3. Grade: good.

Middleweight: Stuart Strange (21-5, #19) vs. Petey Mack (15-6): Round 1: Strange gets a takedown, counters a triangle choke try by Mack by spinning into side control, moves into mount and starts nailing Mack with punches until the ref stops it at 4:30 for the TKO victory. Grade: decent.

Light Heavyweight: Dag Kreuger (7-1) vs. Aleksei Chekhov (23-6, #24): This was also sold as an exciting match. Round 1: Chekhov opens with punches but Kreuger gets a takedown. Chekhov fights off an armbar and scrambles into being on top of Kreuger with a waistlock until Kreuger gets back up. Kreuger pulls off another takedown and moves to side control before the end of the round. Round 2: Chekhov manages to deny all of Kreuger's attempts to bring him down until Kreuger ends the round by forcing Chekhov into his guard; announcers think Kreuger took it though. Round 3 opens with a hyped up Chekhov storming out of the corner. Kreuger's takedowns don't work this round either, and Chekhov nails a huge right hand that knocks Kreuger out at 3:01 in round 3. Grade: fantastic.

Welterweight: Vikram Sithalayan (20-5, #14) vs. Manuel Silva (15-3, #23): Silva was hyped up before this fight. Round 1: Sithalayan opens immediately with a takedown. Silva uses a guillotine try to turn Sithalayan over into side control but a stalemate takes place until Silva takes Vikram's back right at the end of the round in a very close round. Round 2: Vikram grabs a takedown but Silva keeps him his guard and locks in a triangle with an armbar at 2:41 in round 2. Grade: average.

Welterweight: Jack Humphreys (25-10) vs. Jim Carpenter (53-14-2): Humphreys was hyped up for this match. Round 1: strikes and grappling basically goes nowhere here until Humphreys tags Carpenter with a huge right hook and dives into mount, takes Carpenter's back but fails to finish him off. Round 2: Humphreys catches Carpenter with another take down and quickly takes his back, but several attempts at rear naked chokes are fought off by Carpenter until the end of the round. Round 3: Humphreys pushes Carpenter to the cage and controls him for over three minutes with dirty boxing. After the ref breaks it up, Humphreys repeats that tactic. Humphreys won a 30-27 unanimous decision. Grade: average.

Heavyweight: Gyokusho Fujimoto (12-1, #2) vs. Fatuma Roy (23-11). Fujimoto was heavily hyped before the match. Round 1: Fujimoto controls the round by pushing Roy against the cage and keeping him there most of the round. Round 2: Roy's wrestling is denied by Fujimoto and Fujimoto nails multiple big punches on Roy. Round 3: This frame opens with Fujimoto with a right head kick, which is followed with multiple punches on the grounded Roy until the ref stops it at 0:43 in round 3. Grade: good.

Co-Main Event in Lightweight Division: Bud Brockett (13-3, #15) vs. Campbell Crane (11-2, #8): Brockett was hyped before this match. Round 1: Brockett dominates Crane against the cage and gets a takedown, getting into mount. Round 2: Crane pushes him Brockett for takedowns until Bud is against the cage. Crane takes Brockett's back while they stand and tries to get a choke, but Brockett flips Crane to the ground. Crane keeps Brockett away with up kicks, gets back to his feet and keeps pushing for takedowns until the end of the round. Round 3: Brockett pushes Crane to the round and nails him with a left hook that knocks Campbell down. Brockett jumps into mount and takes him out with elbows until the ref stops it at 1:35 in round 3. Grade: good.

Main Event for the GAMMA Featherweight Championship: challenger Lamont Banner (7-0, #3) vs. champion Li-Kong Ho (24-0, #1) Round 1: strikes are exchanged until Ho tries a takedown that is countered by a right hand from Banner. Ho's next attempt brings Banner down, but Banner keeps him in guard until the end of round. Round 2 opens with Ho trying a diving heel hook, but settles for a takedown off it. Ho gets in half guard and locks on an armbar, getting Banner to tap! Ho keeps the belt. Grade: decent.

GAMMA News:

Featherweights Greg Chiang and Chan Wan Wah (both 0-3 in GAMMA) and lightweight Caca de Andrade (1-6 in GAMMA) have been released from their contracts. Shortly after, de Andrade announced his intention to retire after his next match.

Iancu Trailescu suffered a rib injury against Ozzy Bintley which will put him out for six months.

GAMMA signings, all to exclusive deals:

*Nilton Fantoni of FLB, the #9 light heavyweight in the world and their champion

*Ed Burridge of ALPHA-1, a 7-0 middleweight from Hawaii

Fiyero Lermontov now exclusively fights for GAMMA.

Non-GAMMA News:

ALPHA-1 welterweight prospect (and regen) Matashichi Kawai (1-0) joined on with Wudang Academy as a visitor.

Shuler Eigenberg retired after a 12-5 career. He won 3 local fights after going 0-3 in XCC.

Among the new regens this month is one of Jack Cobblepot confusingly named "Nathaniel Chambers." He is actually pretty good, and could end up in GAMMA in the near future.

Edit: more news

GAMMA fighter Tony McCall announced his intentions to retire. The 38 year-old heavyweight has a 35-14 career record. He is likely best known for his unsuccessful GAMMA Heavyweight Title match against James Foster at GAMMA 29 in August 1998. McCall most recently defeated Steve Mason via knock out at GAMMA 73 in November 2001.

GAMMA signed a deal with East Coast Today to begin broadcasting GAMMA Rising Stars, a show intended to present new and lesser known fighters to wider audiences than prelim fights. It is currently set for broadcast on the network in a graveyard time slot.

Former GAMMA light heavyweight fighter Bill Cumming (28-18-1) announced his plans to retire after his next fight. Currently an employee of FLB, Cumming plans on going out with a victory.

Olivia Sweet retired with a 5-2 record.

Everyone made weight for GAMMA 77, so expect a preview post for that to be the next one from me.

GAMMA 77: Miyagi vs. Huang

Saturday, Week 1, March 2002

Prelims:

Featherweight: Quincy McGarry vs. Jefferson Mndawe

This bout is a fight to pull one's self out of danger of being cut. Mndawe has beat Shinsui Sakata & Josuke Hino back-to-back. McGarry's bounced back from a loss to Yoshitora Ouchi by beating Noel Chai by decision.

Lightweight: Ron Chuckle vs. Zac Bacall

This is a rematch from a GAMMA 70 prelim fight, which Chuckle won by decision.

Light Heavyweight: Cal Hillson vs. Glen Lashley

Hillson's lost to Lenny McFadden and Markku Mikkola in his first two GAMMA fights; Lashley (a regen) is 2-1 in GAMMA, beating Brayden Behrami via strikes and winning a decision against Bill Cumming; those wins are sandwiched around a split decision loss to Pedro Sousa.

Middleweight: Jorge Hormazabal vs. Maxime Giresse

The veteran Hormazabal has lost three straight in GAMMA, his last coming to Reed Howelett via strikes. Giresse beat Tyrone Malik via guillotine submission in his last fight at GAMMA Seek & Destroy 8.

Heavyweight: Stafford Alois vs. Steve Mason

The veteran Alois has lost four straight in GAMMA, being knocked out by Giovanni de Matos in his last. Mason's in his second run with GAMMA, and has lost his first two fights in this run, being knocked out by punches from Khru Duangjan and Tony McCall. The loser is likely to be cut.

Featherweight: Kei Maki vs. Sophan Sastrowardoya

Maki lost his undefeated record to Foggy Lee at GAMMA 72 by decision. Sophan won his first GAMMA fight with an americana against Louie Sullivan at Seek and Destroy 7.

Main card:

Heavyweight: Mugur Boc (12-2, #10 heavyweight in the world) vs. Armen Sarkisian (29-3, #11)

Boc is 4-1 in GAMMA with consecutive wins against Harry Milne and Carter Potter. Sarkisian was 5-0 in GAMMA until he was knocked out by Gyo Fujimoto at GAMMA 70.

Featherweight: Francesco Marazzina (20-9) vs. Luke Hilton (10-5)

The experienced Marazzina lost his GAMMA debut to Kenjia Akita at GAMMA 71. Hilton has lost two straight bouts, both at lightweight, and is making his featherweight debut.

Middleweight: JJ Reid (30-8) vs. Thais Antonio Taffarel (22-4, #8)

The former Middleweight champion Reid has fallen to Alex Cole & Matthew Dean in back-to-back outings. Taffarel has won his last two times out against Fjodor Kanchelskis and Leonardo da Costa.

Featherweight: Kenji Akita (13-3, #22) vs. Manish Khan (13-4, #18)

Khan was stopped by Kanji Togo's ground and pound in his last fight. Akita's bounced back after a loss to Philip Ziskie by taking a decision over Francesco Marazzina.

Welterweight: Mills Mullally (18-5, #7) vs. Noach Van Der Capellen (27-5, #8)

Mullally is not well known to U.S. audiences but won his GAMMA debut against Will Kane by KO last time out. Noach's KO win over Kafu Bunya at GAMMA 71 is what he hopes is a first step in gaining his second shot at the welterweight belt.

Middleweight: Kadonomaro Deguchi (10-1, #11) vs. Alex Cole (14-1, #5)

While Deguchi lost his GAMMA debut to Nathan Chambers, he won his last time out by beating Tora Mizwar with ground and pound. Cole has won three straight, all against the ranked Dwayne Alleyne, Petey Mack and JJ Reid; another win could put him in the main event of an upcoming PPV.

Middleweight: Wes Hersch (7-0, #13) vs. Mac Fuller

The young Hersch has won all four of his GAMMA fights to date, his last coming after he made Thomas Smith pass out in a choke hold at GAMMA 68. Another win was against Mac Fuller at GAMMA 60. Fuller, a true veteran, has lost two straight in GAMMA and is hoping for revenge.

Lightweight: Brandon Sugar (31-6, #5) vs. Atep of Indonesia (13-3, #15)

Sugar may have lost in the main event to Fiyero Lermontov at GAMMA 67, but he bounced back with an undercard win against Benny Danare at GAMMA 72. Atep had a four-fight win streak broken by Jake Keane at GAMMA 71.

Co-Main Event: Light Heavyweight: Marlon John (17-2, #24) vs. Joshua Hope (9-0, #12)

John lost his last time out in a title shot against Tadamasa Yamada; this is just his third fight since he lost the belt to Jin Katou. Hope's undefeated record includes 3 GAMMA wins against Derek South, Linfield Ballard, and Anthony LeToussier; the upstart is trying to position himself for fame and a title shot.

Main Event: Welterweight: Ichisake Miyagi (28-5, #5) vs. Jonathan Huang (8-1, #15)

Huang, whose first career loss came to Felix Matherson Jr. on the third Seek and Destroy show, is coming off a win against Jack Humphreys at GAMMA 66 and wants to build up to his first GAMMA title shot. Former GAMMA and ALPHA-1 champion Miyagi won his comeback fight after losing the belt by making Yevgeni Sipatov tap out to an armbar at GAMMA 70.

GAMMA 77: Miyagi vs. Huang

Saturday, Week 1, March 2002

Prelims:

Featherweight: Quincy McGarry vs. Jefferson Mndawe

McGarry pulls a takedown and barely gets to half guard in round 1; in round 2, some strikes are exchanged with little happening, and then McGarry gets another takedown. Round 3 opens with Mndawe countering a Quincy jab with multiple big right hands, knocking the American against the cage and down until the referee has to step in and stop it for Jefferson at 0:22 in round 3. Rating: decent

Lightweight: Ron Chuckle vs. Zac Bacall

Round 1 & 2: Chuckle pulls a takedown, struggles but eventually takes Bacall's back but can't lock a RNC in. In round 3, Bacall's taken down again but scrambled to his and then gets his own takedown which let him take Chuckle's back as the round ends. Chuckle takes a 29-28 decision here. Rating: good

Light Heavyweight: Cal Hillson vs. Glen Lashley

Round 1: Lashley gets a takedown but doesn't accomplish much with it. Round 2 stays on their feet, with Lashley winning the exchanges, though without any serious damage being done, and then grabbing a takedown right at the very end. Round 3 sees even striking and then Lashley grabbing a takedown. Lashley takes a 30-27 decision win. Rating: poor

Middleweight: Jorge Hormazabal vs. Maxime Giresse

Round 1 opens with a Giresse takedown but accomplishes nothing. Round 2 sees minimal striking then Giresse using some grappling and pulling a takedown. In round 3, Giresse pulls Hormazabal down to the ground so he's on top of Jorge's back but can't get a choke or armbar in. Giresse wins a unanimous 30-27 decision. Rating: very poor

Heavyweight: Stafford Alois vs. Steve Mason

Alois opens round one by knocking Mason down with many big right hands but Mason stays aware and avoids the follow-up diving punch; this turns into a scramble with Mason on top in north-south, which he turns into side control and starts using ground and pound. Alois can't answer and the referee stops it at 1:45. Rating: good

Featherweight: Kei Maki vs. Sophan Sastrowardoya

Rd. 1: Sophan pulls a takedown, gets into mount right away and locks on an americana at 2:56. Rating: great

Main card:

Heavyweight: Mugur Boc (12-2, #10 heavyweight in the world) vs. Armen Sarkisian (29-3, #11)

Rd. 1: Armen uses grappling to control Boc and then stuffs a takedown to take Mugur's back before the end of the round. Round 2 has more Armen grappling control with little in way of an answer from Boc. Boc's hyped up before round 3 and gets a takedown but is stuck in Sarkisian's guard. Another takedown try by Boc is stuffed by Armen, who starts hitting Boc; Mugur survives it until the end of the round, though. Armen Sarkisian takes a 30-27 unanimous decision. Rating: poor

Featherweight: Francesco Marazzina (20-9) vs. Luke Hilton (10-5)

Hilton was hyped coming into this. In round one, Hilton gets a big takedown, moves into mount, and starts hitting Francesco with elbows to get the stoppage win at 2:57. Rating: great

Middleweight: JJ Reid (30-8) vs. Thais Antonio Taffarel (22-4, #8)

Rd. 1: Taffarel stuffs a takedown try but accomplishes little with it, but he still keeps control and takes the round. In round 2, Taffarel gets a Muay Thai clinch and nails Reid with a knee in the face and knocks him out at 1:16 in the round. Rating: decent

Featherweight: Kenji Akita (13-3, #22) vs. Manish Khan (13-4, #18)

Akita was hyped coming into this. Round 1: Akita gets a takedown, moves to mount and starts pounding on Khan but can't get the stoppage. Round 2 goes much the same way. Round 3 opens with Khan nailing Akita with big right hands, moves into mount and continues hitting Akita until the referee stops it at 0:46 in round 3. Rating: great

Welterweight: Mills Mullally (18-5, #7) vs. Noach Van Der Capellen (27-5, #8)

Noach was hyped going into this one. In round one, they exchange strikes until the end of the round when Noach catches Mullally with a right hand that knocks him down, but the bell saves Mills. In round 2, Noach catches Mullally with another right hand and goes to ground and pound but Mullally pulls him into side control and keeps him on the ground for most of the round. After a stand up, Noach gets a third knockdown and hits a diving punch, but one that isn't direct enough to finish off Mullally. In round 3, Van Der Capellen gets another knock down with right hands and wails away with punches until the ref stops it, but Mullally was still defending himself! Noach wins a controversial TKO stop at 2:33. Rating: good

Middleweight: Kadonomaro Deguchi (10-1, #11) vs. Alex Cole (14-1, #5)

Round 1: Cole gets a takedown and goes to mount, but can't finish Deguchi. In 2, Deguchi grabs a takedown, goes to mount, moves a sweep into taking Cole's back and tries to RNC him, but fights it off. In round 3, Cole tries to lock on a choke from behind while standing but Deguchi whips him to the ground, goes to side control and takes Cole's back, but no hooks are in for the rear naked choke, Cole flips around. Deguchi wins a 29-28 unanimous decision. Rating: great

Middleweight: Wes Hersch (7-0, #13) vs. Mac Fuller

Hersch was hyped going into this. This ends quickly, as in round 1 Hersch pulls him down, takes his back and slaps a RNC on at 3:05. Rating: great

Lightweight: Brandon Sugar (31-6, #5) vs. Atep of Indonesia (13-3, #15)

Round one: Sugar has a takedown try stopped but responds by pulling Atep down into his guard and slaps on a guillotine that makes Atep tap at 4:16 in round one. Rating: good

Co-Main Event: Light Heavyweight: Marlon John (17-2, #24) vs. Joshua Hope (9-0, #12)

Round one consists of failed takedown and grappling tries by both fighters, with minimal success from either. John gets the first takedown in round 2, uses a scramble to advance to side control, moves to mount and starts nailing Hope with punches, leaving the referee no choice but to stop it at 3:39 in round 2. Rating: average

Main Event: Welterweight: Ichisake Miyagi (28-5) vs. Jonathan Huang (8-1, #15)

Round 1: Miyagi uses wrestling to control Huang against the cage, but Huang reverses it and gets a takedown and moves to side control before the round's end. Round 2 goes similarly, with more Miyagi wrestling control and less Huang control via takedown. Round 3 has more of Miyagi using wrestling to control Huang against the cage, but Huang slips a guillotine on and gets the tap out at 4:50 in round 3! Rating: good

Iain Fussell (12-2, #24) vs. Ruy Mendes da Rocha (13-4): Fussell has won two straight, including his last one by KO against Houston George at GAMMA 72. da Rocha is debuting in GAMMA after winning four straight in FLB.

Stiles has won against Paulo Roberto Bezerra and Grande Silveira via submission his last two times out.

Welterweight: Chad Zoff (8-2) vs. Dominykas Jankovic (12-3): Zoff is coming off a decision win against Felix Mattherson Jr. This is Jankovic's debut in GAMMA; he last fought in SIGMA, winning their Welterweight belt.

Lightweight: Darin Blood (16-8) vs. Tarcisio Dantas (8-2): after a four fight loss streak and nearly losing his job, Blood has won two straight by ground and pound TKOs against George Astaire and Ren Akai. Dantas suffered the first two losses of his career consecutively to Manoel Cabral and Benny Danare, but bounced back with a TKO win against Caca de Andrade.

Light Heavyweight: Niko Soldo (18-3-1, #8) vs. Jiroemon Hasegawa (12-1, #5): Soldo's first GAMMA loss came to Nicolai Mickiewicz at GAMMA 62, but he bounced back by taking a decision over then-#7 Arthur Franco at GAMMA 71. Hasegawa lost in the main event at GAMMA 60 to Sho Kitabatake, but has righted himself with a decision win against Zvonimir Asanovic and then a revenge submission win over Sho at GAMMA 74.

Heavyweight: Renato (10-1, #7) vs. Christopher Sharp (41-14, #4): Renato has won two straight unanimous decisions against James Foster and Gerson Mauricio. Sharp bounced back from an unsuccessful challenge against Heavyweight Champ Hassan Fezzik by beating Murilo Satinho with ground and pound.

Heavyweight: Palmer Lette (20-8-2 (2 NC)) vs. Murilo Satinho (13-2, #17): Lette broke a three-fight loss streak by beating Norbert Vinkus at GAMMA 69 via a first round TKO due to ground and pound. Satinho, 12 years younger, has lost two of his last three (including the last one out), but those fights came against Christopher Sharp; both were first round stoppages due to ground and pound.

Co-Main Event in the Middleweight Division: Matthew Dean (37-8, #10) vs. Dexter Darling (23-4-1, #8): This is a match-up of fighters hoping to come back from losses. Dean lost at GAMMA Seek and Destroy 7 when Isaiah Monroe earned a stoppage with ground-and-pound; before, Dean had won three straight against Stuart Strange, Zaco and JJ Reid. Darling had a six-fight win streak snapped when he tapped out to Buddy Garner's arm triangle at GAMMA 69, which also cost him the Middleweight belt.

Main Event for the GAMMA Welterweight Championship: challenger Evan Pizzarro (9-0, #3) vs. champion Julio Regueiro (27-1, #1): Pizzarro earned this title shot by going 7-0 in GAMMA to date, including submission wins over the then-ranked Louis De La Torre (#14) and Procopio Golias (#5). Regueiro has bounced back from the end of his first title loss by winning three straight to get his title shot against Ichisake Miyagi, which he won with a Peruvian necktie. Successfully defending against (and avenging his only loss) Rufus Stephens at GAMMA 72 with an armbar, Regueiro now faces the undefeated Pizzarro.
