I don't know why it took so long to hit me, but when it did, it felt like someone nailed me with one of those chairs our guys are so fond of using. I'm still new to this wrestling business so maybe I'm overwhelmed and I needed time for it to sink in. I rang Babyface up.

"Lee. It's Tom. I need a minute."

"Yea? What's up?"

"It's not true...is it?"

"Is what true?"

"Deluxe and Xavier didn't actually do drugs together, right? That's just them taking creative liberties with you saying you wanted to push the envelope farther...right?"

"Well..."

"We can't have crack addicts fighting over our title! That would ruin us! What if they OD??? Or come to work lit up and hurt someone??!"

"Whoa whoa. They're not addicts. They just like to have fun. I'll vouch for them."

"Lee...What if..."

"I said I'll vouch for them." *Click*

As the show starts, I'm ambushed by two youngsters on the roster.

[Me:] “Umm…I’m sure that will sort itself out.”

After talking with the booker, Amazing Fire Fly and Kamikaze Christian Vars make their way to the ring for both of their matches, respectively.

Leon ‘Giant’ Brody marches towards the ring as he prepares to take on Kamikaze Christian Vars and Amazing Fire Fly.

The one advantage the two lightweights had was speed, and after learning from their first encounter, they split up and used their speed against the giant. Being faster helped, but they couldn’t seem to inflict any damage on the big man. It all went downhill when Fire Fly was caught jumping off the top rope with a big boot to the face that almost decapitated the young man. Vars was no match for a man twice his size and fell to another chokeslam.

[Deluxe]: “Look, Xavier is one of the most insincere little punks in the entire world. I’ve known him since we were about, I don’t know, twelve. Yet when he finally got a chance to make waves in this business, he turned his back on what made him stand out in the first place. If I wanted to watch a generic black brawler, I’d go watch Eddie Howard or some sh*t. But he used to stand out. You see glimpse of him here and there.

Now, in the ring and in the back, you say things like “Does that hurt your feelings? Well I don’t care.” You say this like you have the blackest heart and coldest demeanor of any dark skinned brother on the planet. Yet all you remind me of is some black guy in the woods. So tell me Xavier, when you have based your entire gimmick off of some YouTube video, is that Unforgivable?”

Deluxe walks away from the camera as it stays trained on the Weston Gymnastics state champs 1972 banner hanging on the wall.

Kelly Taylor makes his way to the ring, covered in a black robe. He grabs a microphone from ringside before he climbs between the ropes.

[Taylor]: “I have been in the employment of this company for several months now. For several months, I have witnessed firsthand the depravity, the horridness, the smut, that goes on back stage and in this ring. I walked around here absolutely disgusted. But I’m just one man. I can’t stand up and fight the war that needs waging. But then it happened…The Event.

Someone stronger than me took action. Someone who could lead us demonstrated their incredible power. Someone who was worthy of leading us spoke to me directly. This man told me that he would fire the first shot in the deep cleanse of this dreadful place but I would carry out the rest. He inspired me. He believed in me.

But why should I believe him? How would I know he would back up his talk?

But then it happened. Then I discovered my reason for being here. Why He placed me here. He eliminated one of the worst offenders. That jezebel. That harlot. Kali Fornia. She was the first stone cast out. He will tell me who the next one is. He started the crusade. I will see it through for Him.”

[Bambino]: “Has Kelly Taylor gone insane? Is he saying the untimely passing of Kali Fornia was the result of…God’s…vengeance? I don’t believe this man.”

[Golightly]: “I am disgusted that he would try to capitalize on the passing of another human being for his own personal gain.”

As Taylor stands in the center of the ring, a lone light shines upon him as he discards his robe. Underneath he is dressed in a traditional Priest's attire.

Fearless Blue has waited months for this matchup as he was denied advancing in the Old Man Rivers Memorial Tournament due to an assault orchestrated by Zachary Inc.

Blue knew the key to winning against Inc. and played him like an instrument. He ran around the ring and just flat out wore down his more muscular opponent. Anytime Inc. hit a move of any impact, he had to regain his breath, which allowed Blue to recover as well. Inc. was well scouted for Blue and it showed as he was prepared for Blue coming off the turnbuckle and knocked his blue haired competitor to the outside. With Inc. recovering in the ring, Thomas Morgan ran down and finally had a chance to get up on Inc. Morgan picked a chair from ringside and slid into the ring. He stalked his prey, waiting for Inc. to stand up. Blue recovered and slid into the ring. He was greeted with the sight of Morgan brandishing a chair so he went on the offensive, delivering a spinning wheel kick that knocked the chair back into Morgan. With Blue preoccupied, Inc. rolls him up and pulls the tights to get the three count and the victory.

Zachary Inc. defeats Fearless Blue.

+Yes, that's The Rev from the '77 C-Verse. But I like the character and it fits Taylor's gimmick.

In the back, the aftermath of Leon ‘Giant’ Brody attacking Thomas Morgan is painfully visible. Zachary Inc. walks over to Morgan’s limp body and lifts his bloody face off the floor by his hair.

“Thomas Morgan? I’m done with you. No need to thank me or my associate here.”

And with that, the two walk away.

After consulting Google Translate, I discovered that Fire Fly and Vars had developed a deep respect for one another and wanted to showcase that in the ring. The two men wanted to face off against one another in a best of five series and since the two can go in the ring and have done all I have asked of them, who am I to say no? A fast paced opener would be a stark contrast to the rest of the show.

The first match was a high speed affair as the two men flew around the ring, each trying to outclass the other with an aerial assault. They were familiar with one another’s move set though and their reversals were crisp and on point. It was surprisingly a small cradle that secured the first win of their rivalry, as Fire Fly caught Vars by surprise.

Following the match, the two men shook hands and raised their arms for the crowd. They walked out of the ring area together.

Xavier Reckless is seen in the back, looking a little disheveled. He finds the stationary camera and proceeds to talk to Extreme Deluxe.

“Ya know what Deluxe? You’re right. I took time to soul search. And I’m back. So tonight I’m going to teach you a lesson. And I ain’t have to jam a hundred jabs into this promo or even become aggressive towards you. Hell, we both know one jab will make you stumble more than trying to juggle on a patch of ice during a hurricane. Have you seen your face Deluxe? I do drugs yet your face is how the character of Bevis was made. And I’m a crack fiend? You should see the face of his bitch. You’d think you were watching Bart Simpon’s favorite TV show. She’s all Krusty, Itchy, and Scratchy. Who’s clever now you no talent b*tch?”

Jebediah was stopped by Dharma as he walked towards the curtain that would take wrestlers to the ring.

“Jebby! I’m so glad you’re back!” She zeros in on a big hug.

“Sorry Ma’am. Tonight I have some reckoning to do.”

He then realizes where his hand is and quickly removes it before he catches up with Daredevil Aero and they break through the curtain.

They walk to the ring as their adversaries stand tall in the cage structure. With the top on, it looks more menacing and more unforgiving. R.M. Stones stands between Super Sonic and Pyromaniac and the door to allow Amish Aero to enter without an issue.

Jebediah’s beard was noticeably shorter than the last time we saw him, no doubt from the fire attack by Pyromaniac. The match involved a quick double teaming of Aero to take him out for a spell so the two heels could focus on the size of Jebediah. But Jebediah was in a zone tonight. He had a clear cut mission and he wanted to extract revenge. He flew around the ring like a man twice his size and surprised the hell out of Super Sonic by reversing a whip into the corner into a springboard turn around clothesline. Pyromaniac used that to his advantage though as he fetched a lighter and what looked to be a 99 cent bottle of liquor from his tights. He took a gulp of the liquor and lit the match. Just as Jebediah was turning he went to blow another fireball but Daredevil Aero came through with the save by the use of a low blow. The fireball was still spit, but right in the middle of the ring mat and the flame flickered in contrast to the white ring. With Pyromaniac doubled over, Jebediah lifted him up onto his shoulder and issued a debilitating powerslam right on the smoldering ring. Pyromaniac screamed a lace of profanity in Spanish before Aero spiked him into the steel cage. Jebediah matched his opponent and spiked Sonic into the cage and both covered the respective foe as R.M. Stones counted the three count.

Extreme Deluxe grabs a mic and stands in the center of the ring.

“Oh, so the Simpsons is going to be the source to dis you? Where do you want to start? Where your mom gave the whole town Dome like the plot of the Simpsons movie? Or where after f*cking her hairy old c*nt, the reaction on your d*ck is like ranking Homer’s bosses: It Burns to Smithers.”

With that, Reckless storms down the aisle and the two start to brawl. R.M. Stones calls for the bell and the match is on.

To call this a wrestling match would be a lie. It was a brawl between two men. There were no 450 splashes or Deluxe Driver II’s or Slingshot DDT’s. There were rights, lefts, and heads being slammed into the turnbuckles. The ring ropes were used by both men to choke the other. Around the ten minute mark, Deluxe caught Reckless with swift kick to the jaw that left Reckless down and out. Deluxe exited the ring and set up two tables right off the apron. He slid back in and rained down boots on his adversary. One went awry and Reckless used his might to topple Deluxe and mount him. He showered Deluxe with fists to the head before lifting him up. He took Deluxe to the corner and started to slam his face into the turnbuckle. The crowd chanted along.

“One!”

“Two!”

“Three!”

“Four!”

“Five!”

“Six!”

“Sev..!”

Deluxe escaped his grasp and ducked out of the seventh hit. Firmly behind Reckless, he locked on a chokehold and jumped on his back, hoping to knock down the champ. Reckless leaned back against the ropes and with his last ounce of strength to propel himself and Deluxe over the top rope and through only half of one of the tables that were set up. Deluxe took the full impact of the fall and his head bounced off the floor with a sickening thud. R.M. Stones counts to three as Xavier’s lifeless body lies on top of Deluxe’s.

Journal Entry #4

I've finished my first year as booker of a wrestling company. My champion is a drug abuser. That pretty much sums up the year. We received no End of the Year honors but if someone expected us to win something, they must have been high off of whatever Xavier smokes.

Our best show was "Valley of Chrome" and no one seems to know why. I have an idea where I want this to go. But Lee is breathing down my neck more and more...

We also need to shelve some guys. Like say...Trauma? He's awful. But Lee hasn't opened the purse strings to allow us to get anyone with talent. Anyone. The new signings all work for about $100 and yes, they're talented, but they can't get over wrestling broom sticks. Or can they...?

No Tom. They can't.

Where To Next?

The new year begins with the second incarnation of HWA: 187 for the young hardcore company. Many didn't see them making it this far but they've carved a nice little niche for themselves in the Tri-State area. Key word here being "little."

No matches have been formally announced to kick off the new year, but we do know that Xavier Reckless will be in action to defend his King of New York Championship against someone. The most pressing question for the champ is what kind of condition is he in?

Rumor is Extreme Deluxe won't be at the show due to injuries suffered in last month's match but details are scarce.

But that's not the purpose of this column. I'm writing to ask: Where does the HWA go from here?

A lengthy and very personal feud seems to be over between Reckless and Deluxe and last we checked, the only other viable main eventer was Super Sonic...who owner Lee Bambino personally hates and has made no secret of it.

Normally, any other federation would bring in workers to build the champion up, but finances and the fact that no one else wants to trade for these workers makes that a bit difficult. Maybe they've made a secret signing that has been kept hush hush or maybe someone is finally ready to step into the main event.

Likely contenders include Fearless Blue, Jebediah, Leon 'Giant' Brody, and Zachary Inc.

Elsewhere, the other notable feuds seemed to have ended as Amish Aero defeated Super Sonic and Pyromaniac and Zachary Inc. told off Thomas Morgan and discarded him like he was a broken toy.

The emergence of Kelly Taylor, which I find in distaste following the passing of someone, seems intriguing but have we seen this before? Wrestler pushes his beliefs and creates a faction before it implodes and they fight and he's left with nothing else to do?

Only one man, the relatively unknown Thomas Preston, truly knows where the HWA is headed and I can't say for certain that he really does. Remember folks, this was a guy they literally picked off the street if the story is true. The next two years will be vital for him. If they're not selling out that gym in two years, he's going to have to start looking elsewhere for employment.

And for pete's sake, can they replace Lee Bambino on commentary? It sounds like my nine year old niece is commentating. I half expect him to go through puberty during a match.

Time will tell where this little promotion goes and if they'll ever get to defend their title in New York. For all your HWA and Tri-State wrestling needs, this is Lars Bundy wishing you all a Happy New Year.

Amish Aero start the evening's wrestling by stepping into the ring as they try to tame the beast that is Leon ‘Giant’ Brody.

Leon ‘Giant’ Brody easily manhandled the tiny Daredevil Aero but actually had to look up to Jebediah. Jebediah’s fatigue from the cage match last month was his undoing as Brody showed off his strength with a chokeslam on the big man.

Match two of the Best of Cinco rivalry is up next as the two men enter the squared circle at the same time.

Another fast paced bout and another small package has Fire Fly coming away with a victory over Vars.

[Taylor]: “So let it be.”

For once, Thomas Morgan wasn’t the best in the ring. Kelly Taylor was quicker, crisper, and more efficient with each step and maneuver. It didn’t take long for him to drop Thomas with his Angel’s Grace, a sit-out neckbreaker.

Xavier Reckless walked slowly to the ring and slid in under the bottom rope. He handed the title to R.M. Stones and propped himself up in the corner. He didn't know who was going to come out through the curtain and he looked perplexed as Zachary Inc. walked out. Inc. had a brash smile painted on his face as he strode confidently to the ring. Stones displayed the prize to both men before ringing the bell.

Xavier Reckless still looked a little banged up from last month and it showed when Zachary Inc. took control of the match early on. For roughly eight minutes, Inc. punished Reckless but couldn’t secure a three count. The tide turned in an unexpected way as Inc. looked to finish the champ off with a chairshot and missed. The chair did connect with the ropes and nailed Inc. in the face, staggering the challenger. Reckless vaulted into his opponent for the Slingshot DDT which pretty much knocked Inc. out cold. As Reckless tried to catch his breath, the lights went out and a loud crack echoed throughout the gymnasium. As the lights came back on, Reckless was bleeding, face down, next to Inc.

Standing in the ring with a lone light embracing him, Kelly Taylor stood with a microphone in hand.

And with that, he tilts his head back and extends his arms as the lone light dims…

Xavier Reckless drew with Zachary Inc. as both men couldn’t answer a ten count.

[Dharma]: “Whatcha doing Jebby?” Dharma asks as she bats her eyelashes.

[Jebediah]: “Ma’am, I have the evening off and was hoping to just enjoy the scenary.”

[Dharma]: “Wouldya mind if I tagged along with ya?” Dharma asked with a girlish inflection in her words.

[Jebediah]: “Ma’am, I would be more honored than…hmph!”

From out of nowhere, Pyromaniac ambushes Jebediah.

[Dharma]: “AAAAHHHH! SOMEBODY HELP!”

[Pyromaniac]: “Que me quemaba la piel! Mi back es scarred vato. Vete a la mierda!”

Pyromaniac puts the boots to Jebediah’s face before dousing him with some sort of liquid, most likely flammable. Before he can strike a match though, Daredevil Aero, Fearless Blue, Kamikaze Christian Vars, and R.M. Stones make a wall between the downed Jebediah and his assailant.

Thomas Morgan is seen waiting in the ring for Fearless Blue, who had just helped break up the altercation between Jebediah and Pyromaniac. As Blue’s music hits, he runs down the entrance and tries to high five every fan in attendance. Morgan is strictly business and is quite visible in his distaste for the youngsters enthusiasm.

A passable match between Morgan and Blue as their styles clashed. Morgan couldn’t quite string together any chain of moves as Blue was too quick and Blue couldn’t land any high risk maneuvers as Morgan was too ring savvy. It was a missed splash in the corner by Morgan that led to the pinfall for Blue. He moved from the splash and landed a springboard crossbody off the second rope for the pin.

As Blue celebrates, Morgan just sits in the ring stunned. He pounds his fist forcibly on the mat several times before ducking out of the ring and retreating to the back.

After the ring clears, a new signing makes his way to the ring for his inaugural match in the Harlem Wrestling Alliance.

A smattering of applause as no one really knows who the man is.

No sooner does he enter the ring does Leon ‘Giant’ Brody appear from behind the curtain. Not a good first draw for any man.

Nigel landed some hard forearms to the giant that would have floored a smaller man, but Brody was just too big. After another failed strike, Brody shoved Nigel backwards and then decapitated the Swede with a big boot to the face. It was academic after that.

[Taylor]: “So let it be my children.”

Match three of the Best of Cinco rivalry is next.

Vars, down 2-0, goes all out against his friendly competitor and the two string along several nice combinations of moves. Fire Fly went for it all with the Sky High Fire Fly but ate nothing but mat, and Vars picked up win number one with his impressive reverse 460 splash.

Each competitor stood in a respective corner as R.M. Stones showcased the King of New York Championship. Extreme Deluxe, Kelly Taylor, Xavier Reckless, and Zachary Inc. each told a different story.

Deluxe looked like a man with nothing to lose. He knew he had to get a win here tonight or else he may not be fighting for the title anytime soon.

Taylor was tranquil. Even though the scene ahead of him was about to become violent and bloody, all he portrayed was serenity.

Reckless was visibly unnerved by Taylor’s calmness. He couldn’t keep his eyes off of him.

Inc. couldn’t keep his eyes off himself. He flexed. He posed. He kissed his biceps.

As the bell rang, three of the men played it cautiously. Deluxe, on the other hand, made a beeline straight for the champ and tackled him before raining punches down on his head and midsection. Inc. decided to join in. Taylor was the one who came to the champs aid as he fought off Deluxe and knocked Inc. out of the ring. He left Reckless to get up on his own. After a tense stare down, the two went their separate ways and never laid a finger on each other throughout the duration of the match.

After roughly ten minutes, Inc. hit Reckless with the Credit Crunch and was all but assured his first reign for the title. As R.M. Stones counted to two, Deluxe threw Inc. out through the middle rope and went for the cover. He got as far as one before Taylor lifted him up and hit Deluxe with an Angel’s Grace. The crowd was stunned that Taylor was about to become the King of New York Champion.

The crowd was at a loss for words when Taylor lifted Reckless up and placed him atop of Deluxe and exited the ring. Allowing the champ to retain the title once again.

Xavier Reckless defeats Extreme Deluxe, Kelly Taylor, and Zachary Inc. by pinning Deluxe.

I'm going on holiday tomorrow, hence why events are dropping like flies the past few days. I'll have to look at renders and see who's available. I wish there were more random renders...

If anyone has suggestions for Taylor's pic, I'm all ears.
