Each season 11 of the nations top QB's are selected to travel to California to participate in a prestigious quarterback camp. At this camp these QB's are instructed by top QB's and QB coaches from around the nation, and as each season passes and we look back at the former participants inevitably there are some studs and some duds. With that in mind this thread will track the Elite 11 for 2006. - After 12 NIKE Camps, six EA SPORTS Elite 11 regional workouts and countless hours of watching tape, the selection process for the 2006 EA SPORTS Elite 11 Quarterback Campetition is now complete. This will be the eighth year of the EA SPORTS Elite 11, which has developed into the premier quarterback event in the nation. A combination camp and competition, the EA SPORTS Elite 11 is designed to give the best high school quarterbacks in the nation some top-level schooling by the best in the business. This year's EA SPORTS Elite 11, to be held July 25-28 in Southern California, will actually feature 12 of the best young high school quarterbacks receiving tutelage from top college counselors as well as the EA SPORTS Elite 11 coaching staff. Notable EA SPORTS Elite 11 alumni include Brock Berlin, Casey Clausen, Jeff Smoker, A.D. McPherson, Derek Anderson, Kellen Clemens, Brodie Croyle, Matt Leinart, Kyle Orton, Vince Young, Chris Leak, Tyler Palko and many many more. Past counselors now litter NFL rosters and include Tim Rattay (49ers), Drew Brees (Chargers), A.J. Feeley (Dolphins), Carson Palmer (Bengals), Marques Tuiasosopo (Raiders), David Carr (Texans), Rohan Davey (Patriots), Kyle Boller (Ravens), Ben Roethlisberger (Steelers), Matt Schaub (Falcons), John Navarre (Cardinals), Dan Orlovsky (Lions) and Aaron Rodgers (Packers). The high school quarterbacks are selected for the event after an exhaustive evaluation process which includes both film research, an in-person workout (whether at a NIKE Camp or EA SPORTS Elite 11 Regional Workout) and a telephone interview. All told, when totaling both the NIKE Camps and EA Workouts, over 1,000 quarterbacks will be evaluated in person this year, not to mention many more on tape. With that in mind, here's a closer look at the invitees to the 2006 EA SPORTS Elite 11:

2006 Preview - Freshman Year Mike Wilson - Pittsburgh (NR) Mike will get the starting nod for the Panthers. There was a void at the QB situation with the graduation of a senior and Mike easily won the job in fall practice. Mike is a pretty accurate passer with decent arm strength for a freshman. He is not very mobile, so he will have to hope that his o-line will hold up. The Panthers have four returning starters among the hogs, so he should be fine there. The Pathers also have a pair of good receivers in freshman John Watts and sophomore Pat Garrett. Charlie Ross - Miami (2) It looks like Charlie will tote the clipboard for the Canes. He landed the #2 spot after fall camp behind returning starter and senior Shockmain Kuehl, who threw for over 3400 yards and 28 TD's last season. Charlie has a great arm with good instincts and good discipline. Should Ross see game action Miami has a plethora of talent as usual with their #1 guy being All-America candidate Dan Herock who caught 51 balls for 911 yards and 8 TD's last season. Jack Canidate - Oregon (NR) Canidate will sit behind senior Steven Byrdsong for now. Byrdsong was rather shaky in '05 throwing just 2 TD's against 9 picks. Look for Coach Belotti to look Canidate's way if things turn sour. Jack has a good arm and good discipline but he isnt a hard worker, therefore he might give the fans at Autzen more to jeer than cheer over his career. Is he another Ryan Leaf? Ernie Grant - Oklahoma (7) The Sooners will start junior Kevin Dewveal. He throw for nearly 4,000 yards and 31 TD's last season. Grant will hold down the backup duties, Ernie is very durable with good instincts and discipline coupled with a strong work ethic. Look for him to maximize his potential by the time he takes over in Norman. Thurman Rooths - Purdue (11) Senior Mike Cook will show Rooths the bench. Cook is coming off an injury after starting just 4 games last season. Cook showed signs of brillance however passing for 889 yards and 10 scores. Rooths is a heady accurate passer, that is prototypical for a Joe Tiller offense. Walt Betters - Oklahoma State (25) In a bit of a surprise Betters beat out returning senior Robert Thomas who split time in '05. Betters has great touch and arm strength and is a workaholic. He is a little slow of foot, so look for him to stand in the pocket and look to pass before he pulls it down. Betters will have a great target to look to in receiver Kevin Brown. Brown had over 1200 receiving yards last season and 13 TD's. The O-line is a little better than average and returns all five starters from a year ago. Maxie Akerman - North Carolina (NR) Sophomore Karl Collinsworth won a heated battle with Akerman in fall practice. Collinsworth started 7 games in 2005 throwing for 1508 yards 13 TD's to go with 8 INT's. Akerman is an intelligent QB with pretty good arm strength. Look for him to get some time if the Heel struggle. John Stinchcomb - Michigan (1) Stinchcomb will have to wait his turn on the nation's #1 ranked team. Stinchcomb is currently the backup behind senior Rohan Johnson who only saw action in three games last season, but has the talent to lead the Wolverines deep into the playoffs once again. A very strong running game and an experienced offensive line await Stinchcomb should he get some mop up time. Jermaine Crummey - Florida (5) Crummey won the battle for the #2 spot behind senior Drew Milburn. Drew threw for over 4,000 yards and 33 TD's last season for the Gators. If Crummey proves a dutiful understudy he should be able to hold down the job for three seasons. Jack Robinson - Maryland (21) Jack will have his nose in the playbook all season long as the #2 QB for the Terrapins. Jack has good instincts and intelligence but doesnt put the time in the weight room. Hopefully that will turn around for the Maryland faithful. Jereme McNabb - Kansas State (17) McNabb will not get the start opening weekend. He just lost out to redshirt sophomore Vann Jordan. Expect McNabb to get some game action early and often. McNabb has good arm strength and accuracy and could unseat Jordan as early as midseason. Look for McNabb to use his feet however because the Cats return just two starters on the o-line. Wesley Morris - Ole Miss (NR) Morris beat out junior Jess Clatterbuck for the starting job. Morris already has fans in Oxford dreaming of the next Eli Manning. Morris is a disciplined hard working with good passing touch and accuracy. His deep ball leaves a little to be desired but with some reps that should come around.

Mike Wilson - Pittsburgh Pittsburgh 44 Missouri 31 23-35 389 Yards 5 TD's 1 INT Wilson got off to a hot start throwing 3 TD's in the first half. He was sacked 4 times however, one of which was for a safety. Although it was a stellar initial outing, he will have to get rid of the ball faster against better competition. Charlie Ross - Miami #1 Miami 27 Louisville 17 2-4 30 Yards 1 TD Ross threw a 3rd quarter TD as Kuehl was sidlined for two series with a foot injury. Ross was able to connect on his first career TD with Dan Herock. Jack Canidate - Oregon Oregon 48 - Bowling Green 10 27-38 297 Yards 3 TD's 1 INT In a last minute decision Canidate got the start for the Ducks and his career is off to a hot start as he threw for 3 TD's in his debut win over the Falcons. Ernie Grant - Oklahoma Oklahoma 55 Arkansas State 10 Academic issues found Dewveal suspended and Grant inserted as the starter. 24-29 322 Yards 4 TD's. Grant turned in the best performance of the day. He better not get a big head, because not all games are this easy. Thurman Rooths - Purdue OPEN Walt Betters - Oklahoma State #23 Oklahoma State 38 UAB 17 18-25 310 Yards 3 TD's, Betters threw his first TD just over two minutes into the game to shake off any freshman jitters that might have been present. Maxie Akerman - North Carolina North Carolina 45 Florida International 24 DNP John Stinchcomb - Michigan OPEN Jermaine Crummey - Florida OPEN Jack Robinson - Maryland #17 Maryland 27 Temple 10 DNP Jereme McNabb - Kansas State Kansas State 33 Akron 7 27-36 261 Yards 2 TD's 2 INT's Jordan threw just one pass before going down injured. McNabb came on and preformed tremendously as KSTATE cruised to a 33-7 victory. Wesley Morris - Ole Miss OPEN

Week 2 Mike Wilson - Pittsburgh Pittsburgh 20 Minnesota 17 17-40 160 Yards 2 TD's 1 INT The Golden Gopher defense befuddled Wilson. They never sacked him but their various zone schemes shut Wilson down. Charlie Ross - Miami #14 Oklahoma 25 #1 Miami 37 18-26 174 Yards 2 TD's 1 INT Ross put the game away with a 15 yard TD pass to Dan Herock with a little over 7 minutes left. Ross didnt light up the scoreboard through the air but he managed the game well. Jack Canidate - Oregon Oregon 29 Akron 23 9-13 135 Yards 2 TD's 1 INT Canidate injured his ankle in the middle of the 2nd quarter while the Ducks had a 13-3 lead. Canidate is doubtful for next week. Ernie Grant - Oklahoma #14 Oklahoma 25 #1 Miami 37 18-32 284 Yards 1 TD 1 INT Oklahoma closed the score to 20-19 tp begin the 4th but the Cane offense powered through to end the game. Thurman Rooths - Purdue #9 Purdue 49 Cincinnati 3 2-2 77 Yards 1 TD Rooths came in in the 4th with the game well in hand. His TD pass was on a screen so the Boiler Makers werent running up the score, or were they? Walt Betters - Oklahoma State #18 Oklahoma State 34 Washington 17 16-33 246 Yards 1 TD 2 INT's Betters and the Cowboys were a little shaky but 5 Husky turnovers spelled their doom. Maxie Akerman - North Carolina North Carolina 38 Navy 10 DNP John Stinchcomb - Michigan #10 Michigan 29 Duke 34 DNP Three Wolverine fumbles give Duke its biggest win in years. Jermaine Crummey - Florida #7 Florida 42 Texas A&M 36 13-14 170 Yards 3 TD's 0 INT Crummey spelled Milburn in the 2nd quarter after Milburn went down with a foot injury. He took over with the score 20-13 and he played just a great game throwing just one incomplete pass. Gator fans are delirious. Jack Robinson - Maryland #13 Maryland 52 Alabama 23 DNP Jereme McNabb - Kansas State #24 Kansas State 7 #5 Virginia Tech 34 13-32 177 Yards 1 TD 3 INT's sacked 3 times After lighting up Akron, McNabb got lit up by the Hokies. McNabb was hounded all night and didnt complete his TD pass until the game was already 34-0 Wesley Morris - Ole Miss Ole Miss 30 North Texas 3 25-38 347 Yards 1 TD 1 INT Ole Miss kicked it into gear in the 2nd half after leading just 9-3 at the half. Morris was sacked 5 times which doesnt bode well for the Cats when Big XII play starts.
