Chikara: We Are Our Own Creative Genius

Recommended Posts

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u619/thegreatone2013/TEW/Chikara/CHIKARAlogo_zps218049fb.jpg

I'm Mike Quackenbush, American Independent wrestler for well over 10 years, i didn't have much success in this business until the early 2000's, May 25th 2002 was the defining day in my career. My vision of owning my own promotion cam to life when we at Chikara held our first show. It didn't seem like much back then but slowly over the years my vision of having a promotion unlike any other, one that focuses on tag team and trio wrestling as well as including the widest range of characters and wrestling styles in the world.

Our growth, while it seemed slow in terms of finance and in fan base was actually staggering in terms of wrestling, today we hold events and PPV's every few weeks and we currently have a 2 main titles, both have been built with an incredible level of prestige. The Campeon de Parejas came into the promotion in early 2006 and has showcased the best tag team wrestling in America. In 2011 we crowned our first ever World Champion in Eddie Kingston, he has been the face of our promotion for many years and is incredibly loyal and hard working, his commitment has helped drive Chikara up the wrestling world ladder, his reign as champion is now nearing the 400 day mark, a great achievement, especially in this era.

2012, Season 11 of Chikara Pro Wrestling was probably our most successful, the product is being viewed by more families than ever before and we have grown a loyal fan base which supports us in every way from buying PPV's, to T-Shirts to DVD's. The year was capped off on a high note, Under the Hood was one of our best events ever, the long standing rivalry between two of Chikara's biggest names Tim Donst and Eddie Kingston reached it's climax but Kingston still managed to hold onto his title. The war between the Sworm and the Colony continues and our Campeon de Parejas picked up a big win over veterans 1-2-3 Kid and Marty Jannetty.

With Season 12 right around the corner the stock in Chikara is high and expectations even higher. Negotiations with combatANT have begun due to his contract being on the verge of expiring, and with the Sworm vs the Colony storyline at a peak we can not afford to let him go. Schedules and events were all arranged with the PPV providers and everything was set to go when i got a phone call...

It was from a British investment group called GreatOne Inc. they called up regarding the ownership of the company to which i quickly declined any interest, then they offered me an investment deal which would require no control being handing over, in fact it was a win, win, they would invest in the company taking our value up from $250,000 to $500,000 and all they wanted in return is to handle the marketing of the shows due to the company specializing in marketing. I had my hesitations, i mean they had a bad reputation in America and particularly in wrestling after two failed attempts at investing and re-branding the WWF, but just then i accepted the deal. The owner of the company seemed happy, he agreed to fly out tomorrow for a business meeting with me and several Chikara staff, one can only hope I've done the right thing....

Chikara: Title and PPV Information

This is the rule book that Chikara will follow under the new co-ownership of GreatOne Inc. and myself, Mike Quackenbush.

  • In order for a wrestler to earn a shot at the Grand Championship, they must first either be on a three match winning streak or must have pinned the Grand Champion in any type of match including non title, tag team, six man tag, eight man tag, gauntlet and specialty matches among others.

  • There is a ranking system to determine when a tag team is eligible for a Campeon de Parejas title shot. A win for a tag team counts as one point, when a tag team reaches three points they can cash it in for a title shot. If a team loses at any time there points returns to 0, this includes when a team has three points but is yet to cash in their title opportunity. The only time this isn't taken into account is at the Tag Wars PPV.

  • The Young Lions Cup PPV is spread over two nights, it is a straight knockout tournament featuring the best under 25 Indy Wrestlers. The winner will go on to defend the title over the next year in any type of match, if the winner manages to keep the Cup until the following year then it is vacated at the night of the PPV in order to crown a new Young Lion. If the Cup changes hands over the course of the year, the new champion can enter and defend his Cup throughout the tournament, as long as they have not won the tournament before as you are banned from entering once winning it. The current champion is Mark Angelosetti.

  • The King of Trios PPV is spread over three nights, this features all 6 man tag matches to determine the best trio in wrestling. Winning the tournament is very prestigious with all past winners going on to have future success.

  • Tag Wars PPV is the night of the year where you do not need 3 points in the ranking system for a title shot heading into the PPV, but you can earn them throughout the night. It is an 8 team tournament with the winner of the tournament then facing the current Campeon de Parejas, it is a tough night for the tournament winners as they will compete in four matches but on the positive side, a team will little or no momentum going into the show could end up the Campeon de Parejas at the end of the night.

  • Under the Hood is the final show of each season and is also extra special due to it being selected as the season finale for Chikara. Fans can expect their moneys worth as Chikara ignore the expense in order to provide the fans the best wrestling in the world.

Chikara: January 2013

January was a hectic month for everyone associated with Chikara, but especially me, deals were on-going all month for the much anticipated Season 12 of Chikara Pro Wrestling.

I, accompanied with Eddie Kingston, Leonard and Delirious sat down for our first meeting with the owners of GreatOne Inc. we discussed the creative future of Chikara, and surprisingly they had some good input and helped plan out the whole of the next season of Chikara.

They were adamant about giving the fans the best wrestling over the next year, and expressed they wanted two big main events at every Pay Per View, this was great news, if their willing to invest to bring in the best talent it's a win win situation.

Creative wise they were high on Mark Angelosetti, the Lions Cup holder, at first I was against what they laid out but after changing the plan several times we came to an agreement, bright future in store for Mark.

We then looked over the paperwork and re-signed the deal with GoFight Live for another year of internet Pay Per View broadcasting. Next up was the 'All the Agents and Superhuman Crew' discussion, the creative input led to the decision that due to it being a new season, every wrestler starts off with 0 ranking points, therefor we wouldn't schedule a title match for the Pay Per View but we'd still give the fans two big matches to close the show.

They wanted me and Delirious to work a program spreading over a few months, great news as i love working with Delirious, we both accepted and worked out the plan which would start at 'All the Agents and Superhuman Crew'. They also wanted a main event match with a build, this was left to me and I decided in about a minute. Adam Pearce and Colt Cabana, two great wrestlers who had a great rivalry in 2012, started in the NWA and spread round most Indy promotions, this match is a guaranteed great main event.

*Note* Match card for 'All the Agents and Superhuman Crew' will be up shortly

3.0, Shane Mathews and Scott Parker take on FIST, Chuck Taylor and Johnny Gargano, 2012 was a breakout year for Gargano seeing him dominate the Indy scene and rise through the ranks in Chikara, he and Taylor can't look past 3.0 though, a team who many are tipping to win tag team gold in Season 12.

Offhand, what product are you running? Happy to predict as i've become a Chikara fan lately.

Great to have you predicting, yeah Chikara has been great recently! I had to edit the product a little bit as i thought the mod's product was a little off, it has a medium amount of traditional, lucha libre, pure and comedy and a low amount of mainstream which means the product is rated equally on performance and popularity. The original product definition had it rated much more on popularity due to mainstream being a key feature but i thought this was unrealistic as there wrestlers aren't exactly the most well known and there shows aren't given any mainstream attention

I think you must've got confused or something, since only Matt Classic is booked, Colt Cabana isn't on the card.

Matt Classic is Colt Cabana's alter ego only used in a few promotions, i mentioned his name after for anyone who wasn't familiar with his alter ego.

Thanks for predicting, you don't really need to know everything that's happened recently to understand, you'll soon catch up

Glad your looking forward to the diary, i also have proof:

In November 2006, Colton taped several matches for Wrestling Society X (WSX), a new wrestling series on MTV. He competed under the name Matt Classic, who is a throwback to the wrestlers of the 1950s and 1960s. His gimmick used "old school" moves such as the skull vice and the abdominal stretch as finishers. To further enhance his gimmick as an old school wrestler

13th February 2013

assailAnt vs Soldier Ant

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u619/thegreatone2013/TEW/Chikara/Match%20Cards/AssialvsSolidier_zpsfa0dc16d.jpg

The Colony have played such a big part in Chikara's history and The Swarm have vowed to destroy them and reign the ANT world in Chikara, this battle took place throughout Season 11 and has flowed over into Season 12 of Chikara Pro Wrestling with intensity increasing and with no end in sight. These two exciting cruiser weights worked well together due to them knowing each other inside out from this rivalry.

After pulling off a Death Valley Driver on Soldier, assailANT looked to finish him off and locked in a Clover Leaf submission hold, Soldier was quick to respond reversing it into a small package and getting a near fall. Soldier sends assail out the ring using a spinning forearm smash, after steadying him self and performing the trademark salute, Soldier follows up with a suicide dive. Soldier gets to his feet and rolls assail into the ring when combatANT's entrance music goes off, Soldier is distracted looking at the entrance way but see's no sight of combatANT. Soldier eventually makes his way back into the ring but got caught with a tight roll up from assailANT who got the quick victory. Post match combatANT came out to the entrance way to hug and congratulate assail on his big victory for The Swarm.

Winner: assailANT in 8:17 Grade: 53

Los Ice Creams vs Batiri

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u619/thegreatone2013/TEW/Chikara/Match%20Cards/icecreamuglytag_zps8f844612.jpg

The first tag team match of the new season kicked off with a match dubbed 'the delicious vs the ugly'. With one tag team point at stake in the rankings both teams went all out and put on a solid display of tag team wrestling. Two very gimmicky tag teams kept the younger audience heavily involved during the match playing off them to gain added heat for Batiri and a loud pop during a comeback for the Ice Creams.

Kodama, the more athletic of the team took control when he landed a slingshot hurricanrana and followed it up with a standing drop kick. Kodama couldn't put Ice Cream Jr away despite him getting virtually no offence in, Obariyon entered the match and continued the assault on Jr landing a double knee backbreaker but only managing a near fall. After Obariyon failed to connect with a springboard DDT and ended up planted on the mat it allowed Jr to make a hot tag to El Hijo del Ice Cream who entered the match and immediately took out Kodama with a brain buster. Ice Cream then hit a 'Cold Stone Stunner' on Obariyon and picked up the shock victory.

Winner: Los Ice Creams in 7:14 Grade: 44

Frightmare vs Gran Akuma

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u619/thegreatone2013/TEW/Chikara/Match%20Cards/FrightmarevsAkuma_zpseaae33dc.jpg

Both of these two were considered heavily underutilized in Season 11 and this was there chance to shine, which they grasped with both arms, having the joint match of the night. Akuma mixes a good technical base with strong lucha skills and is considered a great all round wrestler which helped him focus on cutting off Frightmare's majority offence which was aerial attack.

Gran Akuma gained momentum mid way through the match after Frightmare missed a somersault splash and landed awkwardly on the outside, Akuma added to the pain with a scoop power slam and then later a german suplex. Frightmare later tried to fight out of the grasp of Akuma who had him locked in an abdominal stretch, once Frightmare escaped Akuma quickly re-gained the control with a belly to back suplex. Akuma took a big risk and it went on to cost him, he missed a moonsault and soon took an FrightCrusher from Frightmare, he managed to kick out before the three count but the damage was done. Frightmare followed up with a Crucifix Bomb for the victory.

Winner: Frightmare in 10:06 Grade: 59

F.I.S.T IV vs 3.0

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u619/thegreatone2013/TEW/Chikara/Match%20Cards/Fistvs30_zpsd8dcfeb4.jpg

Two teams who have bright futures and a big year ahead in Chikara Pro Wrestling battled for a point in the tag team rankings. 3.0 are the more experienced, as a team and wrestling in general but F.I.S.T certainly had momentum going into the match after a great Season 11 for both wrestlers as well as success for Gargano in other wrestling promotions.

Gargano and Taylor dominated the early proceedings of the match, showing off their superior skill and wrestling circles around the opponents, however the heart of 3.0 can't be denied and they came back fighting and even took control after cutting off Gargano and double teaming Chuck Taylor with a Flapjack and then a Spear. Mathews hit an STO on Chuck Taylor, which allowed Parker to attempt for the victory but he missed the target with an Elbow Drop. The slight mistake from 3.0 allowed Gargano to capitalize and land the Hurts Donut and pick up the win.

Winner: F.I.S.T in 14:22 Grade: 50

Rich Swann vs Sugar Dunkerton

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u619/thegreatone2013/TEW/Chikara/Match%20Cards/RichSwannvsSugar_zps1bbde775.jpg

Rich Swann's debut in Chikara was much anticipated and his exciting style will fit in well, his first test was against the flamboyant Sugar Dunkerton who portrayed Swann as an invader and he promised to eliminate Swann before his Chikara career could kick off.

The match brought out an aggressive side of Sugar who would repeat moves several times, declaring he was punishing Swann for the fans despite their boo's. Dunkerton landed a swinging neckbreaker three times on Swann, forcing the air out of his body but he was still unable to get the three count. Sugar's finisher, Air Dunkerton was well scouted and dodged by Swann who countered with a Spinning Roundhouse Kick sending a dazed Dunkerton to the floor, Swann followed up with a 450 Splash and came out the winner.

Winner: Rich Swann in 12:56 Grade: 50

Delirious vs Mike Quackenbush

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u619/thegreatone2013/TEW/Chikara/Match%20Cards/DeliriousvsQuackenbush_zps167fceca.jpg

The battle between the founder of Chikara and one of the biggest names if not the biggest draw on the roster was up next. Delirious is not only a great cruiserweight in terms of high flying ability, he can also hold his own with mat and chain wrestling, this time however he was up against one of best in terms of wrestling ability and was on the receiving end of an dominating offence early on from Quackenbush.

At the ten minute mark the match looked to be over when Quackenbush had Delirious in a Crossface for over several minutes, just when Delirious looked to be fading he rolled out into a cover which was easily kicked out of. Delirious was first to react next, landing a Facebuster which sent Mike into the corner and allowed him to land the Panic Attack, Delirious slowly crawled to the cover but got caught and locked into the Chikara Special Wrist Lock from Quackenbush who used a burst of energy to crank the hold on tight and force Delirious into submission.

Winner: Mike Quackenbush in 14:56 Grade: 56

An in-ring segment took place next with Tim Donst coming out to address his loss against Eddie Kingston at the conclusion of Season 11 of Chikara Pro Wrestling:

"Under the Hood was suppose to be Tim Donst's night, it was suppose to be the greatest night of my career and life, my chance to headline the biggest Pay Per View of the year against my nemesis Eddie Kingston. It was set in stone, the gods above already knew, it was my night to become the only man to beat Eddie Kingston when the Grand Championship was on the line. I would have been the one to end the historic reign, i would of made history! And like the selfish, egotistical man Eddie Kingston is, he denied me of that opportunity and beat me 1-2-3 in the middle of the ring, Eddie took everything away from me! So if you think i'm just going to hop to the back of the que and wait in line to get a rematch, no chance, i'm going to sit in this ring and i will not leave until Leonard Chikarason grants me my rightful rematch".

After a minute or two of Donst mocking the home crowd, Leonard Chikarason, the general manager or 'director of fun' as he is referred to as, made his way to the ring:

"I understand your view on the situation Tim, but i can't give you any special treatment, you lost clean in the middle of the ring and now your going to have to earn your rematch by beating three men in the ranking system".

Donst's facial expressions become more frustrated as Leonard is talking, and he soon cuts him off:

"Let me tell you something, Leonard! I'm not just some punk who is gonna take every order you give me and quietly sit in the corner till my chance comes again, i'm the best wrestler in this damn company and i deserve to be it's champion, so either you get me my rematch or i take my all american background and skill set somewhere else, believe me i would not struggle to find another job!".

"Wait just there, i think i have and idea, in fact yes, your fate will now be in your hands Tim, tomorrow night, at 'While the Dawn is Breaking' you will go one on one with the Grand Champion Eddie Kingston in an non title match, if and only if you can beat Kingston then you can have another shot at the Grand Championship".

Donst accepts the decision but looks very ungrateful at how he still has to earn the title shot, he leaves the ring, giving some fans stick as he exits.

Adam Pearce vs Matt Classic

http://i1324.photobucket.com/albums/u619/thegreatone2013/TEW/Chikara/Match%20Cards/PearcevsMattClassic_zps873d2632.jpg

The Main Event was up next and the two wrestlers who had been involved in an intense rivalry for much of 2012, closed the rivalry with a great match up. The Matt Classic had an overwhelming amount of support from nearly everyone in attendance and kept the crowd involved throughout the whole match.

After a long opening of mat wrestling, both men were in a stalemate with neither man manages to gain an advantage. They the exchanged in chops in the corner with Matt painfully sending Pearce's chest a bright red colour, Pearce only managed to fight back after pushing Matt into the referee and proceeding to follow up with a low-blow. Pearce took advantage of a grounded Matt and locked him in a Figure-Four-Leglock, Matt eventually fought out and landed a rolling elbow. Matt worked of the crowd and landed a combination of punches and chops before a bodyslam and running knee lift. Matt Classic lost concentration while entertaining the fans and it cost him when he got a Spike Piledriver from Pearce. Pearce looked to be locking in a Sleeper Hold when he got flipped into a Head Vice by Classic. Pearce was stuck in the devastating hold and soon tapped out.

Sorry but what mod are you using and can you link me to it if possibly please?

Also loving the dynasty.

The data is on my dad's computer currently, i only have the save game file on this laptop. It was an old Mr Canada or Future Legend mod which i just heavily updated, i updated the popularity of all the promotions so the attendances in the game matched the ones they draw in real life even if it meant lowering them down a size. And then gave every promotion a PPV provider in the areas they currently have them in but just adjusted the size of the provider to match the buyrates they get in real life. It took quite a while but it is worth it as the mod is very realistic. I will most likely be able to get hold of it in the week if you would like me send it you?
