WCW Saturday Night

Airs December 16th, 1995

Commentary: Tony Schiavone and “The Professor” Mike Tenay

Show Runtime: One Hour

Rating: B

This show increased our popularity in 2 regions, lowered in 1.

Segments:

Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay, and Gene Okerlund try to call Dusty Rhodes at his home in Austin, Texas; but all they get is a dial tone. They discuss what this could mean regarding tomorrow night in the Kiel Center for the match between Ric Flair and Dustin Rhodes. ©

“Macho Man” Randy Savage joins commentary for the evening, but says that tomorrow at Starrcade he will be playing a different role, that of the executioner of Cactus Jack. (B-)

Hollywood Hogan and Eric Bischoff are shown, with Hogan screaming about Sting. He says that Eric should have had all that taken care of, but since he couldn’t do anything about it, Hollywood is going to take care of Sting the old fashioned way, in the ring! Roddy Piper is shown laughing about all that in the background, and he says to Eric that he has the best plan to take care of all of this. (A)

“Mean” Gene Okerlund and JPL host an Event Center, JPL saying that he will be in action on Worldwide before Starrcade. He then throws us to words from the men in the six-man tag team match, Ron Simmons and the Twilight Express, and Johnny B. Badd with Harlem Heat. All of them talk trash on one another, with Ron saying that “Badd can give his soul to the lord, because his butt belongs to Ron Simmons!” ©

Matches:

The Rock ‘n Roll Express d. The Armstrong Brothers when Rey Mysterio Jr. and Juventud Guerrera distract Brad, leading to a sunset flip victory from Gibson. (C+)

The Texas Blackjacks d. Arn Anderson and Owen Hart when Dustin pins Arn following a surprise small package. (B)

Post-match: “Mean” Gene catches up to the winners, Dustin and Barry both talking about how at Starrcade, they can’t wait to see Dustin triumph over Flair – and again extend the invitation to Dusty Rhodes to show up in his son’s corner. (B)

WCW Worldwide

Airs December 17th, 1995

Commentary: “The Professor” Mike Tenay and Gary Michael Cappetta

Worldwide Panel: Tony Schiavone, Gene Okerlund, Rick Rude, and Stan Lane

Show Runtime: One Hour

Rating: B-

The show opens with an interview with “Macho Man” Randy Savage, conducted by Rick Rude. Savage is backed by the imposing Giant, as Rude asks Savage what his match at this year’s Starrcade means to him. Randy says that it is all about being on top of the wrestling mountain, and proving that he hasn’t lost a step – in fact, he’s gained one lately. Rude asks about Cactus Jack, bringing up that “The Macho Man” has consistently lost singles matches to Jack. This sends Savage over the edge, saying that Cactus has been a lucky, lucky man, but luck will always wear out when you need it most. Savage’s gimmick has changed to a cocky type of egomaniac, and it rated an A*. (B+)

We go to the WCW studio, where Tony Schiavone introduces the panel this week; “Mean” Gene Okerlund, Rick Rude, and Stan Lane. Gene asks Rude as to why he’s still on the panel week after week, but Rude avoids the question. Tony changes gears to the biggest happening in all of wrestling this past week: the story unfolding between WCW World champion Hollywood Hogan and his opponent tonight at Starrcade, Sting. Tony talks about how Sting has felt that WCW turned their back on him, and so he has turned his back on them. Gene outright points the accusing finger at Rude, saying that Rick started all of this by questioning Sting’s “franchise” status. Rude fires back that he will only accept part of the blame; he didn’t fall for the guy dressed as Sting who works for the Kings of Wrestling like everyone else did, and that was Sting’s tipping point, all he did was point out that Sting had gotten soft. He says that he never expected it to go this far, though. Stan calms things down by adding his thoughts, saying that he hopes if Sting defeats Hogan for the World title, hopefully he can get his head back on straight. ©

We then turn to the roster to speak about the shocking interview that “The Stinger” gave to close this past Nitro. Cactus Jack says that he can’t believe that he saw the day that Sting turned his back on WCW. Johnny B. Badd thinks that Sting is a coward hiding up in the rafters now, too afraid to come back down to reality. Rick Rude says the same thing that he had in the panel, that Sting had gone soft but he did not intend on things going this far. Arn Anderson talks about knowing Sting for a long time, and says that “This, this guy who is up in the rafters with a bat telling WCW to screw off? This isn’t Sting.” Brian Pillman says that Sting is literally crying out for help, just like he did not long ago. He says that he will stand by Sting’s decision to leave WCW and its fans behind, because the majority of WCW have turned on him. Vader simply says “Sting? STING?! STING IS A DEAD MAN!” Lex Luger closes with a heartfelt interview and an apology, on behalf of all of WCW, saying that this is the last thing WCW needs in its battle with the Kings of Wrestling. He says that he will be happy to watch Sting’s back at Starrcade, because what we need is Sting with the World title! (B+)

The Heavenly Bodies defeat Sgt. Buddy Parker and The Patriot when Buddy gets tripped up by Theodore R. Long, and then walks straight into a thrust kick from Del Ray for the pinfall. ©

Another pre-taped interview with Rick Rude airs now, this time with Diamond Dallas Page and Kimberly. Rude says that they have gotten the reports in, and Page has severely bruised ribs after this past Monday’s attack by Meng. DDP says that he is hurting, of course; but he’s worked too damn hard to not go down swinging. He doesn’t care how much tape they have to use on his ribs to allow him to go out to the ring, because he isn’t going to let the fans down – he will go out there and die defending this United States title if he has to! Kim seems very concerned for his well-being, but DDP’s mind is made up, and they walk on toward the dressing room area. (C-)

Lord Steven Regal seems in trouble a few times as he faces off with the high flying Hysteria, but in the end he is able to dodge a moonsault and lock in the Regal Stretch for the submission victory. Regal really came out of this match looking good. (C+)

The panel now discuss the other biggest match at Starrcade tonight, that being Dustin Rhodes taking on “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair. Rude is quick to point out what the Horsemen have said, that nobody defeats all four of the Horsemen, and he feels that tonight will not be Dustin’s night. Gene goes the other way, saying that he thinks Ric Flair is acting a little too confident going into this one, and that especially if Dusty Rhodes comes out to be in Dustin’s corner, it will be the boost that Dustin needs to win this match. Lane says that he’s been in the ring with Ric Flair before, and you can never count him out, no matter who is on the other side. Tony says that the real winners will be the fans, because no matter who wins it will be an amazing match. He says that he has the phone number of Dusty Rhodes, and they will try again to call him right now on air. Tony has their desk phone on speaker and he makes the call, but it just rings and rings before it disconnects. Tony says this is what has happened all week when they tried to reach him, and he questions that if Dusty even shows up, will we get “The American Dream” or “The American Outlaw”? Nobody has an answer for that question yet. (B-)

In a good back and forth matchup, JPL is able to defeat California Kip by escaping the Silicon Valley Slam and hitting him with the Pedigree for a big victory. ©

We head back to the panel one final time, and they run down the entire card of Starrcade ’95. Tony Schiavone tells everyone that he will see them very soon, call your cable company right now because it is time for Starrcade! (C-)

Thanks to all who have predicted so far! For once, I'm not going to calculate anyone until the show is actually posted, that way if some of you have your gut reactions swap, you can still change your minds. I'm nice like that :p Also a huge thanks for all the comments, because I love getting them; it shows me where you all think I might be going. I will do another post down the line that addresses some of them, either before or after Starrcade I am not sure yet. Again, thanks everyone! Based on some testing I've done, Starrcade is definitely going to be an incredible night!

After that rousing rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” we head to Tony Schiavone, Jesse “The Body” Ventura, and “Mean” Gene Okerlund next to ringside. “The Body” seemed to have enjoyed the guitar playing more than Tony or Gene did, but they quickly move on to the show itself, in what Tony dubs could be the most important night in the history of our sport! He talks about Sting finally getting his chance to go one-on-one with Hollywood Hogan with the World title on the line, as well as Dustin Rhodes stepping into the ring for the biggest match of his young career against “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair! Jesse says that he doesn’t feel Dustin will be able to pull off the victory, and says he will definitely back Sting instead of Hogan any day of the week, especially this new, cut-throat Sting. Gene favors Dustin Rhodes and Sting, and Tony does so as well, saying that not many men have had the type of roll that “The Natural” is on right now; and could father Dusty be somewhere in the Kiel Center tonight? All of these questions will be answered tonight, but now we begin to hear “Welcome to the Jungle” start up and it is time for our opening contest!

Notes: Tony improvised well, Gene had some masterful interactions with the crowd, and Jesse worked the crowd well. Jesse also changed his gimmick to a Unique Charismatic, which rated a B+.

WCW World Tag Team Championships

The Steiner Brothers vs. Arn Anderson & Owen Hart w/Bobby Heenan

Time Limit: 45:00

Referee: Nick Patrick

Our opening contest is set to bring the house down immediately, as Scott Steiner and Owen Hart open the match with a beautiful back-and-forth technical wrestling display. Owen tags out to “The Enforcer” which prompts Scott to tag in older brother Rick. This then becomes an old school brawl, but Rick overpowers Anderson en route to a thunderous belly-to-belly suplex that sends Arn right back into the corner he came from! Arn tries to slow things back down again, but when Scott tags back in, the pace picks right back up, as Scott fires Anderson into the ropes and sends him flying out of the ring with another vicious suplex! Anderson tags back out to Owen, who nearly suffers the same fate when Scott catches his foot off a kick, but Owen leaps up and hits an enziguri that puts the younger Steiner down on the mat! From here, it quickly becomes the prototypical Horsemen’s match, as they cut the ring off and decimate Scott, namely his arm. Tony mentions the Minnesota Wrecking Crew and how much damage they’ve done to arms throughout their storied careers. Hart hits a beautiful missile dropkick on Scott, as well as a belly-to-belly suplex of his own, and Arn utilizes an abdominal stretch and a big bodyslam onto Scott’s own arm, but nothing can manage to hold Steiner’s shoulders down for the three count. Scott finally gets the hot tag out to Rick, who waylays Arn with a Steinerline and catches Owen off a leapfrog with a powerslam! “The Enforcer” comes back into the fray and hits Rick with a hard spinebuster, but Scott breaks up the pin with a diving elbow drop! The Steiners tag back out again, and Rick holds Anderson up on his shoulders as Scott comes off with the bulldog! Rick nails Owen with another Steinerline as Scott makes the pin, getting the three count and retaining the titles. Who will be next to stand in the way of the Steiner Brothers?

Winners in 11:58: The Steiner Brothers

Ron Simmons and The Twilight Express w/Stan Lane vs. Johnny B. Badd and Harlem Heat w/Badd Girl

Time Limit: 30:00

Referee: Charles Robinson

We go straight from tag team action into six-man tag team action. Booker T and Bobby Eaton begin with some action, much like the match previous. This one quickly devolves into a wild, six-man brawl though, with Charles Robinson having to threaten all of them with disqualification before he is able to gain any semblance of order! The match is structured around Johnny only coming into the ring to do damage while his opponent is on the mat, tagging back out to Booker or Stevie when the going gets rough. The big rally is when Simmons gets tagged into the match and he starts levelling both of the Heat with clotheslines and leaping shoulder blocks. Both of the team are sent out of the ring, leaving only Badd left standing! Ron chases Johnny around the ringside area, but Johnny pulls Badd Girl into the path of the former All-American! Stan Lane steps in to stop Badd from doing anything cheap, but Lane and Eaton both get turned around and confronted by, of all people, the Heavenly Bodies! Prichard and Del Ray are in the midst of a big argument at ringside, when another man sneaks into the ring – and Alex Wright hits Terry Taylor with a releasing German Suplex! Badd springs over the top rope with the Badd Day legdrop, and he picks up a pinfall that he definitely did not work for or deserve! Afterwards, “Das Wunderkind” raises the arms of Johnny and Harlem Heat! This little group of malcontents is only getting larger!

Winners in 11:50: Johnny B. Badd and Harlem Heat

Notes: Alex Wright has turned heel, which was a complete success.

“Mean” Gene Okerlund is back at the entrance way, and he shills the WCW Hotline; saying that it is your one-stop shop for all the news backstage from Starrcade. He says that there will be a huge breaking news up regarding a hand full of wrestlers on their way out of their current company, and you aren’t going to want to miss that scoop. He then brings out his guest at this time, the man who goes one-on-one with “Nature Boy” Ric Flair later tonight, “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes! Gene asks Dustin for his thoughts right now, saying that the butterflies must be flying around in his stomach. Dustin corrects him, and says that this is not the same way he felt back in May when he faced Hollywood Hogan, because that was a match more about business; this has been personal for months! He says that Ric Flair and the Horsemen have been talking a lot about how nobody can defeat all four of them, but here he stands, three down and one to go, and he’s the biggest, best thoroughbred horse in the stable. “But there’s always that one day when the best thoroughbred gets in a race with the young upstart, and we get to see who wants it more. Well Ric Flair, this may just be another Starrcade for you, but it isn’t for me. For me, this is about revenge, and this is about redemption, and this is about proving to you and Arn Anderson that you were wrong when you said I wouldn’t have been good enough to be a Horseman all those moons ago. I want this more than you ever will. You may have done the dance with my dad in every city in every state in this entire country, but this is not him. You and my dad have lit the world on fire; but you better not look across the ring tonight and just see ‘Dusty’s son’. You better look across that ring tonight to see Dustin Rhodes. I’m sure you’ve had your three other Horsemen tell you parts of my body that should be weaker than others, but tonight, there is no such thing. No one defeats the Four Horsemen? Well I say no Horseman defeats ‘The Natural’ Dustin Rhodes.” Gene has little to say, asking only if Dustin has heard from his father, the legendary Dusty Rhodes. Dustin says that he has not, but he will place a chair at ringside, and if his father will show him the respect and give him the honor of being in his corner for the most important match of his life, then he will make him the happiest son in the world. “But if not, then I’ll know that my hard work isn’t done yet… and I’ll keep working until it is. I am the son of the son of the plumber, and no one will ever take that away. Maybe that doesn’t mean a lot to someone like you, Ric Flair, but to me, it means I have my own pedigree to live up to. I will show WCW and the entire world tonight the true American dream, and with God as my witness, you will never forget my name.” With that, Dustin takes his leave, as Okerlund throws it back to the ring.

Notes: Gene performed a little poorly here, but Dustin showed mastery in his improvised interactions with the crowd.

WCW World Television Championship vs. A Date with Tammy Lynn

“Latino Heat” Eddy Guerrero w/Bobby Heenan vs. Chris Candido w/Tammy Lynn

Time Limit: 15:00

Referee: Randy “Pee Wee” Anderson

The stakes are high in this one, as titles and dates are on the line. Jesse recounts the classic advice from Rocky that “women weaken legs” but Tony says that people have really been getting behind Chris Candido, formerly Ichii Yazaki, ever since he and Tammy Lynn have been together, so perhaps she is his good luck charm. The match begins with speed, these two lightweight competitors dazzling the crowd with fast paced offense and defense before finding themselves in a stalemate – which is stopped by Eddy motioning for Candido to kiss his rear! Chris charges him, but Guerrero ducks out of the ring, forcing Randy Anderson to have to stop him. Eddy takes over by thumbing Candido in the eye, which Tony says “must be a Horsemen tactic” but Jesse corrects him that it’s a wise tactic. The champion doesn’t rest at all, hitting Candido with several springboard splashes and dropkicks to keep him on the mat. Guerrero basically controls the match, but the cheering of Tammy on the outside keeps willing Chris to kick out. As time ticks on, Tony wonders if these two can put one another away, as the World TV title’s time limit is getting closer! Candido finds himself in a position to go to the ropes and hit the New Jersey Jam, but Eddy springs to his feet and climbs the ropes, hitting him with a DDT from the second rope! He goes for the cover, foot on the ropes! Guerrero hooks a La Mahistral cradle, but Candido again kicks out. He goes up to the top for a Frog Splash, but turns it into a roll when he sees Chris move. Gary Cappetta announces one minute remaining, as Eddy applies an arm wringer and heads to the top rope. What move he was going for we shall never know though, as Candido shakes him loose and pulls him into a belly-to-back suplex, bridging up for the one, two, and three! Guerrero is in shock, as is Bobby Heenan, but Tammy is ecstatic! New champion! New TV champion!

Winner in 14:24 and NEW World Television champion: Chris Candido

The Flying Spyder and Surge vs. The Dungeon of Doom (Biohazard and Rio the Renegade) w/Dr. Karnage and Nurse Ana R. Key

Time Limit: 30:00

Referee: Mark Curtis

Mike Tenay, Gary Cappetta, and Sonny Onoo sit in on commentary for this one, because last month we couldn’t get Jesse to call this stuff with a straight face. This is as inoffensive a match as you can find, as these guys all play the part of kid-friendly shenanigans perfectly. It’s not so much a tag match as it is a comic book style fight, as the hero team finds ways to leap through the air to surprise their larger opponents while the villains use their brute strength to try and get the advantage. At one point, the Spyder really does fly as he leaps off the ring apron and backflips into the Web-shooter Star Press onto Rio on the floor! The whole match is all conducted very openly, as all four men get time to shine at certain points, albeit briefly because we didn’t book this match to run much longer so that the kids can get to bed after it’s over. They’ll all be going to bed crying though, as the match gets interrupted by a presence outside the ring…

Surge especially looks distressed, dropping out of the ring to confront this other masked man as Dr. Karnage crows in laughter. As Mark Curtis is also being distracted by these goings-on…

This man slips into the ring undetected, spins the Spyder around and grabs him in a belly-to-belly fashion before falling to his back, driving Flying Spyder’s face into the mat! He lifts Spyder’s limp body up and hits a roundhouse kick, which forces him into the clutches of Biohazard who lifts the Spyder into a two handed chokeslam! The mysterious man leaves the ring and heads away into the darkness of the arena as Mark Curtis counts the three. The crowd are stunned into silence… not that they had gotten very loud during this one anyways. But I’m sure your kids are worried, as the villainous Dungeon of Doom have really pulled the wool over the eyes of our heroes by bringing in outside backup! Surge seems really baffled by the appearance of this new man, and the Spyder is down and out! What will our heroes do? Stay tuned to find out soon, superfans; same WCW time, same WCW channel!

Winners in 7:44: The Dungeon of Doom

We are joined in the aisle by the WCW World Heavyweight champion Hollywood Hogan, along with Eric Bischoff. Bischoff holds the microphone for Hogan, who welcomes everyone to “The Kings of Wrestling present to you, Starrcade!” Hogan talks about his match tonight, which he is confident about because “last year I didn’t really submit, brother, I just had my hair in my eyes and wanted to get out of there and get a towel!” Jesse literally laughs out loud at that statement, as Hogan continues to talk about the match that he says people have called “a year in the making” saying that it’s been a long road to get to beat the crap out of “The Stinger” again, but he’s finally going to put this issue to rest, dude. Eric then talks for a moment, saying that he doesn’t care about who WCW are appointing to their bogus board of directors, because he will always be the Executive Vice President, and so he will still be in complete control of the rest of WCW. Hollywood closes by saying that WCW may hang their hopes on Sting, but he’s “just another false icon, brother, when compared to the Kings of Wrestling and the power of Hollywood. SO WHAT YOU GONNA DO, Stinger, when the true power runs wild on YOU?!” They laugh to one another, as “Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)” plays them off.

Notes: Both men improvised very well off of one another, but Eric came off a tad underwhelming.

The Road Warriors vs. The New World Order (Scott Hall & Jeff Jarrett)

Time Limit: 30:00

Referee: Randy “Pee Wee” Anderson

This tag team match more resembles a barroom brawl than a matchup, even when Jeff Jarrett is involved; though he mostly plays his role as a ping pong ball being bounced back and forth between Hawk and Animal. The Road Warriors do a great job of punishing Jarrett, and even throw around Hall as Hawk heaves him overhead in a gorilla press that nearly slams Hall through the mat! The power game of the Road Warriors comes to a halt however, when Animal tries to clothesline Hall in the corner and Jarrett pulls his partner out of the way, causing Animal to knock the wind out of himself as the nWo representatives take over. They keep him on their side of the ring and resort to all manner of double team moves behind Randy Anderson’s back, from choking with the tag rope to Hall applying an abdominal stretch and getting extra leverage from Jarrett. Hawk stews on the ring apron as this all happens, and when Animal back body drops Hall out of an attempted Outsider’s Edge, and both men make the tag simultaneously! Hawk springs over the top rope but the begging Jarrett is a ploy as he thumbs Hawk in the eye. Jarrett hits the ropes and tries to hit a cross body block, but it’s turned into a ring shaking powerslam! Hawk charges and levels Hall with a lariat, and Animal comes in to send Jarrett spiraling out of the ring with a lariat as well! Scott is getting set up for the Doomsday Device, but Randy Anderson is stopping Jarrett from using his guitar. However, behind his back, Syxx comes in and sprays paint into the eyes of Hawk! Animal drops Hall and begins the chase, chasing Syxx and Jarrett both away from the ring, but that leaves a blinded Hawk to be lifted up into the Outsider’s Edge, and driven down! Hall weakly makes the cover, but it’s enough to score the victory! It appears there is a new member of the New World Order!

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/ericbischoff.jpg

We now go to a press conference going on right now backstage, with all kinds of media around. Eric Bischoff is there, looking impatient, saying that he has a show to finish running out there. Finally the guests of honor arrive…

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/teddibiase.jpg

Ted DiBiase addresses everyone, thanking the media for coming and saying that this is truly a big, new day for World Championship Wrestling. At Ted’s sides are his faithful attorney, Richard Stevenson, but also Ted Turner, and actor James Woods, who plays presidential aide H.R. Haldeman in the upcoming movie Nixon, which comes out this week. Bischoff tells him to hurry this up, and DiBiase cuts right to the chase; he says that the new World Championship Wrestling Championship Committee will be a group of some of the best minds in the wrestling business, and while they will not be able to completely overrule Eric Bischoff, he will not be able to override their decisions either once they are made. Ted says that he will have a role as an advisor to the committee, but will not be an active member. He goes on to say that the committee will not have any active roles on WCW television, keeping their business back in the board room, but that is not to say that they will not have a voice. DiBiase tells everyone that when it came time to determine the new WCW Commissioner, they knew there was only one option, a free thinking man with a huge past in this great sport. That man is…

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/magnumta.jpg

Magnum TA! He steps out from behind a curtain, and after a smattering of applause (and some groans from Eric) he tells everyone that Mr. Turner and Mr. DiBiase approached him while he was laid up in the hospital following the attack from the Four Horsemen, and they said that they wanted him to be the voice of the Championship Committee. He says that it was hard to say yes, especially when they informed him that as the commissioner, he couldn’t hold any grudges or be partial, not to any of the active wrestlers of WCW, not to any of the backstage staff who are his friends, not to the Kings of Wrestling, and especially not towards the Horsemen he wanted revenge against. But Magnum knew it was the best cause he could take to get WCW to move in the right direction, so he accepted their offer. He says that in the past year and a half, WCW has been plagued by backstage deals and slimy handshakes, but no more; he vows to be a commissioner that everyone can look up to, and will treat all fairly. Eric leaves the room, throwing his hands in the air, not even acknowledging the handshake that Magnum offers him. The media start questioning he, DiBiase, and Turner more, but we have more action at hand, so back to the ring we go!

WCW United States Heavyweight Championship – Triangle Match

“Diamond” Dallas Page vs. “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff vs. Meng

Time Limit: 45:00

Referee: Charles Robinson

Diamond Dallas Page is certainly the worst for wear in this one, as his ribs are taped up following the attack on Nitro by these two vicious opponents. Orndorff and Meng immediately start off the match working together, decimating Page in the early going with some of their signature tag team offense, and Charles Robinson can do nothing to stop it. Dallas keeps kicking out while Orndorff has him pinned though, which continually frustrates “Mr. Wonderful”. Orndorff holds the champion up and DDP gets levelled by a savate kick from Meng, but Paul can’t capitalize as he gets distracted by the crowd chanting “Paula” at him… and that’s when things go a little crazy here, as Meng instead goes for the pin, and Orndorff has to break it up. Paul then starts arguing with Meng, saying that Meng isn’t here to win the match, just to give Orndorff the title! Meng doesn’t seem to understand, but he understands it when Orndorff slaps him across the face – and Meng instantly starts hammering him with chops and kicks! Paul manages to outsmart Meng by back dropping him out of the ring, but Paul turns around into a Diamond Cutter! Page goes for the cover, and he gets a 1! 2! 3!

No! Because Meng pulls Page out of the ring, and he hits a martial arts kick so fierce that Page goes flying over the guardrail and into the audience! Meng goes back into the ring and, in spite of some begging off by Orndorff, who tries to make friends again by offering his hand. Meng takes his hand, and pulls Orndorff into the Tongan Deathgrip, which causes Paul to fall to the mat and spasm, until Charles Robinson lifts his arm three times and declares the match over, just before Page could have gotten back into the ring to break the hold. Robinson finally convinces Meng to release the hold by presenting him with the United States championship, which he looks at quizzically before taking it.

Winner in 10:11 and NEW US champion: Meng

Notes: Meng has turned face, which went pretty well.

“Mean” Gene comes back out to the aisle again, and this time he introduces “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair as his guest. Despite some bickering between Okerlund and Bobby Heenan, who Gene says may be out a lot of money tonight given the losses suffered by the Horsemen so far tonight, Flair takes all the attention for his own. He talks about the Horsemen having their backs against the wall tonight, but that’s nothing new for them. He talks about the wars that they’ve been through with so many people that came down to Ric Flair, and that’s nothing new for them. He dubs this the night the Horsemen refuse to buckle, the night they dig in their heels and prove themselves, and it all comes down to one match – Ric Flair in the ring with a Rhodes, once again. Flair says that he listened to what Dustin was talking about earlier, and vows not to look across the ring and see Dusty’s son; he knows that he and Arn taught Dustin a lot of things in the year that they were riding together, but he wasn’t elite enough to be a Horseman and that’s why they kicked him to the curb like all the other cheap floozies who try to hang onto the Horsemen’s arms. “The Nature Boy” is getting fired up now, as he sells that nobody defeats all four Horsemen, and that will not change tonight, nor any other night, as the stylin’, profilin’, jet flyin’, limo ridin’, kiss stealin’, wheelin’ dealin’ son of a gun Ric Flair is ready for action, and when he’s on the top of his game, nobody – especially a Rhodes – can top him. “You have the chance to be the man, kid; but first, you gotta beat the man, whooo!” Flair and Heenan leave, Gene saying he wanted to ask about Dusty Rhodes but they don’t turn around to come back so he shrugs and throws it back to Gary Michael Cappetta with the introductions for our next match.

Notes: Flair put forth some masterful interactions with the crowd, really selling this whole feud.

“The Monster” Vader vs. “The Total Package” Lex Luger

Time Limit: 30:00

Referee: Nick Patrick

This match is all about each man’s power game. After a slow start of each man getting the better of a lockup and then posing, the brutish Vader pummels Luger with vicious right hands after a failed test of strength. Luger fires back with his own punches and kicks, rocking “The Monster” until he sends him out of the ring with a running clothesline! The crowd go crazy for “The Total Package” as he flexes. Vader gets back into the ring quickly, and he is fueled by his rage as he unleashes a torrent of punches straight from Hell onto his enemy. Luger gets whipped into the corner and Vader charges in to crush him with a vile splash, but Lex isn’t down for long until he’s hitting Vader with more of his own punches. Luger tries to slam the big man, but Vader clubs him on the back, breaking it up. Vader takes over, covering Lex after a hard slam but only getting a two count. Luger falls victim to a belly to belly suplex from Vader, before he goes to the ropes and lands on him with a pump splash! Nick Patrick wants to count, but Vader pulls Lex up before the three. Vader goes up for another splash, but Luger rolls out of the way, and he begins to mount his comeback. He uses chops and clotheslines to rock his foe, before hitting the ropes and hitting shoulderblocks, but none of them take Vader down! Finally Luger backs off and hits the ropes twice, and he leaps to hit Vader with a big forearm smash – but Vader pulls Nick Patrick into the line of fire! Patrick is probably legally dead at this point, and Vader comes back on top with a hard, bell-ringing smash as he claps Luger’s head between his massive forearms. Vader sets Luger up for the power bomb, but Lex escapes – and after a few hard punches, Luger lifts Vader and body slams him! He goes for the pin, but no referee!

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/sting.jpg

That is when Sting rappels down from the ceiling and lands in the middle of the ring, carrying two baseball bats; one his black one, and the other a standard wooden bat. He jabs Vader with his baseball bat, rousing “The Monster” from his slumber. Luger realizes what’s happening and he starts questioning Sting, who keeps both men at bay by pointing his bats towards them. Both Luger and Vader circle around Sting, who finally drops the wooden bat in the center of the ring, then leaves, walking up the aisle and heading backstage. Both of them charge one another, and they each grab an end of the bat! It’s a tug of war, and Luger finally relinquishes his hold on it. That staggers Vader backwards, and Lex rushes him with the big forearm! Luger shoves the bat out of the ring, knowing that despite not having used it he could be disqualified if Nick Patrick thought he had, just as Patrick comes to and begins crawling over to count the 1! 2! 3! The crowd are ecstatic for the victory, but the cloud of Sting hangs heavily over this match; who was he trying to help?

“The Loose Cannon” Brian Pillman vs. Steve Austin

Time Limit: Mark Curtis

Referee: Mark Curtis

The two men circle one another like ravenous animals, each looking for a way to gain a fast advantage in a match that Jesse Ventura says is breaking his heart to see. They lock up, and Austin turns Pillman into a side headlock. Brian bounces off the ropes, shoving Austin to the other side, but Steve stops his momentum before Brian can hit him on the rebound. The two circle themselves again, and this time it’s a slugfest as wild right hands get thrown! The audience are getting hot for these two men, as both of them are major crowd favorites. But just then, the match halts as…

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/scotthall.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/jeffjarrett.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/vader.jpg

The other three members of the New World Order surround the ring, as Brian looks around at them. They climb up onto the apron and enter the ring, as now Austin is completely surrounded by all four of them. But then behind Pillman comes…

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/syxx.jpg

Brian notices him, and at that point, he laughs. He laughs that loud, evil, crazed laughter… and turns his back to Austin, before Hall, Jarrett, Vader, and Syxx jump both men! Mark Curtis barely escapes as he calls for the bell, but the match being cut extremely short is only a formality; as the four on two assault continues, and doesn’t stop until Austin and Pillman are both down on the mat; and Scott Hall takes a can of spraypaint, and tags both men with the initials of “KoW”.

Ladder Match - #1 Contender to the WCW World Heavyweight Championship

Cactus Jack vs. “Macho Man” Randy Savage

Time Limit: 45:00

Referee: Randy “Pee Wee” Anderson

There is no feeling out process, there is no calm before the storm, there is no quarter given; as Randy sprints toward ringside, Cactus leaps off the ring apron to meet him right in the aisle! A clipboard symbolically hangs above the center of the ring as ladders are placed around the four sides of the ring. The two men trade blows on the floor, as Tony points out the nature of this match; no count outs, no disqualifications, no pinfalls, and no submissions; the only way to win is to climb the ladder and grab the contract. Savage drills Jack’s face into the steel barricade, and he fishhooks both sides of Jack’s mouth, pulling on his face as Cactus squeals in pain. Jack hits an elbow to Savage’s stomach and starts mounting a fight of his own, lifting and body slamming Savage on the hard floor! Jack sends Savage into the ring steps, and he starts punching him down to a knee. Cactus goes for a high risk maneuver by backing off and charging, but Savage isn’t worn down enough and he dodges, causes Jack’s knees to slam into the stairs! Like a shark smelling blood, Savage immediately zooms in on the knee, smashing it into the concrete floor beyond the padding! Randy gets a ladder and slides it into the ring, and looks like he may want to set it up. Jack, however, limps to his feet and pulls Savage back outside! Jack brandishes a steel chair, and he nails Savage with it on the back, and when Randy leans against the ring apron in pain, Jack nails his arm with the chair! Cactus gets back into the ring, and he heads for the opposite ropes. Jack bounces off, and he uses his own body as a battering ram to hit the ladder and knock it into the chest of “The Macho Man” sending both men and the ladder to the floor!

Cactus starts getting into the ring again, but Savage cuts him off by pulling him back down, and Jack lands awkwardly on one foot as his sore leg gets extended out over the apron – and the sneaky Savage attacks it viciously with punches! Randy grabs Jack’s foot and slides into the ring, pulling on it until he can slide out of the ring on the opposite side of the turnbuckle post, and then he repeatedly jams the knee against the post! He shoves Cactus backwards, causing him to hit the floor again, but Jack also inadvertently catches the back of his head on the ladder. Savage grabs another ladder and throws it into the ring, and now he begins setting it up. “Macho Man” starts to climb up the ladder, but Cactus comes back in and pulls him down, before hitting some hard punches that rock Savage back. Jack then starts to whip Savage across the ring, but he doesn’t release his grip, instead pulling on it and putting torque on the shoulder, before hitting the shoulder with a hard forearm! Savage’s winces in pain turn to a scream when Jack then grabs him from behind and shoves the hurt appendage into the side of the ladder, knocking both down. Cactus drills a legdrop onto his fallen prey, and he heads back toward the ladder. Savage stops him on the third rung, and as he pushes the ladder, Cactus loses his footing and his hurt knee gets ripped apart inside the rungs! Savage is all over the knee now, using the ladder to slam the hard steel against the ladder, and then placing the ladder over the leg and stomping on it! Randy then positions Cactus and hits a vertical suplex that causes both of Cactus’s legs to crash down against the ladder, before setting it up again. He starts trying to climb, but the punishment to his arm earlier makes him have to stop briefly. That is all the time Jack needs to get back into the fray, and he pulls Savage off the ladder with a belly-to-back suplex down to the mat. Jack limps into action, tipping the ladder over onto Savage’s weakened arm, stomping on it himself; turnabout is all fair play when the World Heavyweight championship can be concerned!

Both men continue to just hurt one another, weapons finally littering the ring as chairs, ladders, and – with Randy Savage around – the ring bell even gets involved, as these two punish one another from pillar to post. Each move seems as if both men are trying to one up the other, as we go from Cactus hitting a superplex from the turnbuckle to Savage hitting a belly to belly suplex off of the ladder! Savage drills the ring bell into Jack’s knee with a flying elbow, so Jack sandwiches Savage between two ladders with a splash. Cactus catches Randy coming off the top rope for a double axe handle with a fist to the stomach, and he hits him with a double arm DDT onto a chair! Cactus gets a ladder set up and starts climbing; this time, “The Macho Man” doesn’t seem able to stop him! Jack gets to the top and reaches up, and he can’t reach it? The clipboard rises in the air out of Jack’s reach! The cameras try to look upwards but don’t see anybody, as Jesse wonders if it’s Sting in the rafters messing with people again, but Tony says that Sting went backstage after he was out in the ring earlier. Finally the right camera finds the right position, and we see…

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/woman.jpg

Woman is in the rafters, and she has the cord holding the clipboard; and she’s keeping it out of Cactus Jack’s reach! Jack looks up, before looking down at Savage, realizing that if he can’t win just yet, then he can always inflict more punishment – and he dives off the ladder, looking to hit a big elbow drop!

Savage moves! Cactus crashes and burns on the mat, and Savage kicks him out of the ring and throws chairs and ladders on top of him. He turns toward the ladder, but his arm is too beaten and mangled to climb. He angrily shoves the ladder aside and looks up toward the clipboard, which begins lowering down to the ring! Woman lets the board float down gently, and he easily takes it off of the cord to win the matchup! Tony and Jesse wonder aloud what Woman’s deal is, cheating Cactus Jack and giving the match to Randy Savage, a member of the Kings of Wrestling. Is this the doing of the KoW, or, given her perch in the rafters, did Sting have a hand in this?

The Giant w/Jimmy Hart vs. Terry Funk

Time Limit: 30:00

Referee: Nick Patrick

Tony blames Eric Bischoff for purposely putting this match right after the ladder match, which promises that Cactus Jack would be too worn down and exhausted to help Funk. Jesse says that while that may be true, Terry has made it clear he wants to try and do this on his own. Funk charges in fast and heavy, attacking his foe with reckless abandon. Terry hits a lot of punches that rock the big man, but never takes him down; whereas it takes just one mighty shove from The Giant to put Terry on the mat. Funks never say die, however, and the former NWA World champion is back on his feet quickly, this time trying to utilize some of his wrestling skill, but The Giant refuses to yield, as he smashes Funk in the back of the head with one massive paw. Giant then shocks the entire world by jumping up and hitting Funk with a dropkick! Terry groggily staggers to his feet, and walks into a chokeslam. Giant lifts Funk off the mat and drills him to the mat with another vicious chokeslam, and he arrogantly places his foot on the chest of the veteran to score an easy pin fall. Tony and Jesse wonder that if a legendary athlete such as Terry Funk can’t even take The Giant off of his feet, who will possibly be able to?

“The Nature Boy” Ric Flair vs. “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes

Time Limit: 45:00

Referee: Mark Curtis

Dustin Rhodes places a chair in his corner, but Tony says that there is no word from father Dusty Rhodes as of yet. Jesse wonders if Dustin has perhaps been paying a little too much attention to what “big daddy” is doing here, when he really needs to worry about the 12 time Heavyweight champion of the World, Ric Flair. The two quickly circle the ring, warming up their blood, and Flair offers a handshake… before pulling back and running his hands through his hair, letting out a long “Whooo” toward his opponent. Jesse laughs, as Tony says that Ric is already trying to play mind games with his younger opponent, and commentary talk about two major talking points: first, that these two have never met in a one-on-one situation in front of the world like this, and the idea that nobody can defeat all four of the Horsemen. The two athletes get closer and almost lock up, but Flair again pulls back, and now drops out of the ring to converse with Bobby Heenan. Dustin has a face of stone, but Jesse says that he has to be a little bit frustrated with this stalling action, as Flair starts talking to a woman in the crowd. He climbs back into the ring, asking Mark Curtis to hold the ropes open for him. “The Natural” again stays cool as a cucumber, and he finally locks up with “The Nature Boy” as the crowd buzz with anticipation. The two are fairly evenly matched at this point, and they jockey for position before pushing off one another. After a brief strut from Flair, the two lock up again, but this time Dustin is able to throw Ric with a quick arm drag, Flair rolling to his knees. Another collar-and-elbow-tie-up, and this time Flair twists Rhodes’s arm into a top wristlock. But Dustin is able to reverse away from it, and he sends Flair across the ring with another arm drag, and this time as Flair slips away to the floor, Dustin mocks Ric’s own strut, and it’s “The Nature Boy” who starts to look frustrated! Flair gets into the ring again after breaking the momentum, and this time he sends Dustin to the ropes. Rhodes ducks a clothesline, Flair ducks a clothesline, but Dustin stops right behind Flair, waits for him to turn, and leaps into a beautiful dropkick that sends Ric down to the mat! Tony talks about how this should be Dustin’s strategy, to get this match rocking and rolling, with all the fast offense that he can in order to keep Flair off his mark; adding that Dustin’s youth and stamina would mean a lot if he were in there against anybody but the self-proclaimed “sixty minute man” Ric Flair. Jesse agrees, saying that it will be to Flair’s advantage to keep this match at a snail’s pace, a marathon rather than a sprint, only because Dustin will eventually get tired or frustrated and make the critical error that can give Flair the victory. Dustin keeps to his plan though, as he wrestles a straight match by hooking Flair in an arm wringer, putting his five inch height advantage to good use. Ric pulls Dustin over to the ropes, forcing a break, but when the shoe is on the other foot a few moments later, Flair gives no clean break, chopping Dustin across the chest! The chop echoes all around the Kiel Center, and Flair lets out another “Whooo!” toward his adversary. Rhodes seems to have expected that (and how could you not?) as he comes out of the corner and locks up again. He hooks a side headlock, until Flair sends him to the ropes again. Ric drops down to the mat, but rather than jump over him, Dustin drops an elbow! Rhodes goes for a cover, but it only scores a one count. Jesse does praise Dustin for going for a quick pin there, saying that he could have potentially surprised a lesser opponent – but he’s not in there with any lesser opponent, he’s in there with Ric Flair.

Flair is back on his feet again, and he tries to hook a sleeper hold on Dustin, but Rhodes lifts him up for a big belly-to-back suplex. But Flair shifts his weight and goes over Dustin’s back to land on his feet, and he quickly throws kicks at the left knee. Dustin keeps his composure, and Flair sets him to running the ropes. But when Flair ducks, Rhodes goes for a leapfrog, and when he lands the knee goes out from under him. “The Nature Boy” is like a shark smelling blood in the water now, and he simply shreds Dustin’s left leg. He kicks and tugs on it, slamming it to the mat and driving all of his weight down onto it repeatedly. He pulls Dustin to the ring apron and smashes the back of his knee on the side of the ring, before dragging him to the turnbuckle and wrapping his leg around the post! He drives an elbow down into the knee, and then backs up to deliver a pinpoint knee drop to the forehead of Rhodes, before going for a cover.

…One!

……………Two!

……………………kickout, and Rhodes tries to get to his feet but ends up in a rear chinlock by Flair. Another loud “Whoo” rings out, as Flair is definitely in charge of this match. Ric pulls Dustin to his feet and lifts him into a beautiful delayed vertical suplex; floating over, but only getting another two count. Tony takes this moment to talk about how Dusty Rhodes has still not made his way to the ring, and may not even have gone to the Kiel Center tonight. Jesse says that we may not want Dusty here, because the last time we saw him he was joined up with the Kings of Wrestling. Ric goes for another kneedrop, but this time Dustin rolls out of the way, and he quickly rolls Flair up with a schoolboy!

One!

……………TWO!

……NO, Flair just kicks out!

“The Nature Boy” was really shocked by that one, and he shows his anger by mounting Dustin and driving some punches into his forehead. Flair doesn’t know how to react when Dustin flips him over and punches at Ric’s forehead though! Mark Curtis gets Dustin away from the mount, and Flair heads out of the ring, but this time Dustin follows right after him. He nails Flair with a hard right hand, and the chase is on! Rhodes runs Ric around the ring, but Bobby Heenan throws himself in the path, urging Dustin not to hit him due to his neck problems, and Jesse concurs, while Tony tells him to “nail him!” Dustin unfortunately falls for the trap, as Ric comes up from behind and shoves Rhodes into the turnbuckle post, before slamming his head on the ring apron! Flair gets back into the ring as the crowd starts up a “Weasel” chant toward Heenan, irritating him, but he has a tough time being too irritated as he watches Flair take over the match again on a now badly bleeding Dustin. Ric wastes little time, telling Dustin that it is “time to go to school” before hooking in the figure four leglock! All of the punishment from earlier comes flooding in as Dustin’s face is a mask of pain and blood, as Flair applies all the pressure that his legs can muster. “The Natural” is not one to give up easily though, as Jesse crows that he’s going to have to give it up, nobody is going to defeat all four Horsemen on this day! Bobby Heenan is ecstatic on the outside, flashing the four fingers toward the camera and toward the fans. Dustin lays back on the mat in pain, and Mark Curtis sees his shoulders on the mat!

ONE!

………………TWO!

…………………………No, as Dustin gets his shoulders up off the mat at the last millisecond! Flair slips his hands out to Bobby, who helps apply a little bit of extra pressure behind Mark’s back, releasing when Curtis starts to turn around. Rhodes almost gets counted down again, but he still has some fight left in him. Rhodes happens to look at the blood on his hands (from touching his forehead in the pain), and his eyes go wide! He sits up and looks right into Flair’s eyes, a look that says this isn’t over yet, before throwing himself back and trying to turn the hold over! Ric fights with all he’s got to keep control, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand……… no, as Bobby reaches in and helps Flair keep the hold! Dustin almost gets counted down yet again, but he gets his shoulder off the mat in time. Tony says that not many people ever survive the figure four for this amount of time without submitting or passing out, but Dustin is still fighting! He starts pounding his hands on the mat, trying to rally the crowd behind him; and they oblige, clapping and stomping to will Dustin on! Rhodes starts trying to turn the hold again, and this time he………… gets it! The pressure turns to Flair, who quickly lets loose of the figure four! Flair is over near Heenan though, and Bobby appears to be slipping Ric something. Dustin is dazed, but he comes after his opponent, but when he spins Flair around, he gets levelled by whatever Ric was given! Flair makes the hand-off back to Bobby, and makes the cover!

………………………………………….THREE-NO! Dustin just barely got his shoulder up, and “The Brain” is irate! He starts waving toward the back, as Ric heaves Dustin up off the mat, whipping him into the corner. Flair comes in and taunts Rhodes with the four fingers, before chopping him! He chops him again, the knife-edge chops ringing out through the entire arena. Another chop, but this time Dustin fires back! Another chop, and again Dustin punches back! One more chop, and now Rhodes grabs Flair and throws him into the corner, hitting him with hammering punches! He shoots Flair to the other side of the ring so hard that Flair flips over the top rope to the apron! Flair runs the apron and goes to the top rope, but Rhodes heads him off at the pass, grabbing him before he can leap, and hurling him into the ring! Dustin goes for the cover – but only a two count, and he screams out to the audience, who give him some loud cheers back! Dustin sends Flair into the ropes, and he heaves him up with a big back body drop! Flair crawls back up to his feet, and Rhodes hits him with a big, leaping clothesline! Flair gets up again, and another clothesline puts him back down, but a third one Ric manages to duck, and Dustin wipes out Mark Curtis with it! Curtis falls to the floor, and now Bobby’s insurance policy comes into play…

The other three Horsemen all come out from the back, and Dustin sees them coming. He doesn’t back down though, calling them to come on! But that distraction allows Flair a chance to come up from behind and chopblock Rhodes’s knee out again. The other Horsemen all get into the ring, and it looks as though the beating is in order… but………………… a figure goes over the railing and decks Bobby Heenan! With a clang he closes up the chair that Dustin had set up earlier and slides into the ring, throwing off his cowboy hat to reveal…

The crowd go crazy! Dusty Rhodes is in the ring with a chair, and he’s staring down the Four Horsemen! Jesse wonders if Dusty is going to slam Dustin with the chair, but he gets his answer quickly as he nails Guerrero with it! He nails Hart with it! And he nails Anderson with it! Dusty goes face to face with Ric Flair, but he doesn’t touch him, strutting away and jawing to the other Horsemen, chasing them away from ringside and leaving this as a one-on-one match again! Flair is still the only man still on his feet, and he tries to hook up the figure four again. But a small package! Mark Curtis slides halfway across the ring to count!

……………………………………THREE-NO!!!

JUST barely does Flair get kicked out, and probably only because it took Mark a few extra moments to get back into the ring! Flair tries to keep the pressure on, hitting the rising “Natural” with a hard fist to the forehead, but Dustin fights back with a forearm to Ric’s midsection. Dustin starts fighting back to his feet, and he sends Flair flying with a belly to belly suplex! Ric ends up in the corner on his knees, screaming “Noooooo!” and begging off! Dustin for once lets his emotions get the better of him, and he comes in swinging – but Flair trips him up and goes for the pin!

NO! Flair starts celebrating, but Mark waves it off, not calling for the bell as he saw the feet on the ropes just as he hit the mat! Ric gets into an argument with Curtis, as Dusty picks up the foreign object that Heenan had earlier. He tries to slip it to Dustin, but Dustin refuses it. Flair takes advantage of the situation and hits Rhodes with a knee to the ribs. He lifts Rhodes for a belly-to-back suplex, but Dustin slips out of his grasp, shoving Flair into the turnbuckle. Ric is dazed, and when he turns around, Rhodes is nowhere to be found – as he had run the ropes and gets Flair from behind with the bulldog! He rolls Flair over and makes the cover, right in the middle of the ring, and the crowd chant along with the count!

This one is over!

starts playing as the crowd are out of breath! One of the trainers comes out to help Heenan as they assist Flair out of the ring as Dustin is helped to his feet by his father. Dustin, his face still a bloody mess, sees Dusty standing in front of him, and they move closer… and hug! Father and son are victorious in the ring, as Dusty dances to the music and raises his son’s hand in triumph… but Jesse begs the most important question, does this mean anything for Dusty’s association with the Kings of Wrestling? Was this a one-time deal for revenge on the Horsemen, or has Dusty turned over a new leaf? The audience don’t seem to care about that, as they applaud and cheer in adulation for the Rhodes family after this grueling match!

Winner in 26:25: Dustin Rhodes

WCW World Heavyweight Championship

Hollywood Hogan w/Eric Bischoff vs. Sting

Time Limit: 60:00

Referee: Tommy Young

A long video recaps all the past year for Sting, as he chased Hollywood Hogan and the Kings of Wrestling to the edges of his sanity, as he has said he will win this title not for WCW or his ‘Little Stingers’ but instead for himself! Hollywood Hogan, to his credit, is, as always, arguably the biggest icon in wrestling and can never be doubted. Who could possibly come out of this match the winner?

Gary Michael Cappetta gives a rousing introduction to both men as they come down to the ring. First, Hollywood Hogan, who is flanked by Eric Bischoff, and he plays air guitar on the defaced World title to irritate the fans. Tony mentions Hogan’s lightning covered black tights, saying that it is akin to the electricity in the arena. Sting then calmly marches to the ring, wearing purple and black face paint and tights (black with purple scorpions), and his black baseball bat. not looking anywhere but in the direction of the World Heavyweight champion. He slaps no hands, he glances at nothing – this has been his focus for over a year, and nothing deters his attention.

The bell sounds, and Sting does not move from his corner. Hollywood does look semi-spooked, but Eric’s presence helps him, as the Executive Vice President of WCW tells Hogan that “He’s just a man! It’s only Sting!” The World champion rips his KoW t-shirt off, revealing his muscular physique, and that seems to give him some of his confidence back as he throws the tattered remains towards “The Stinger”. He vows to “break [sting] in half” and shares a laugh with Eric, but Sting shows no emotion to any of this posturing. Hollywood finally comes out of the corner and wants to lock up, but Sting doesn’t even show any desire for that. Hogan finally walks right into the corner and shoves Sting, and that prompts a response – punches! Sting starts laying into Hogan as the crowd go nuclear, hitting Hogan clear back into the corner that he had started from! The champion finally escapes out of the ring, stopping this flurry before it decimated him. Eric comes over as Hogan has scurried halfway up the ramp, with fans yelling at both of them the whole time to get back in the ring. Hogan re-enters at the count of 9, stalling out all the time that he could. Hogan walks over to the emotionless Sting again, but he doesn’t push him, he tries to talk to him. Eric had given the champion a microphone, and he starts trying to urge Sting to join the Kings of Wrestling again. He sticks his hand out to offer a handshake, and Sting takes it?!? But Hogan screams into the microphone, as Sting starts squeezing his hand, before pulling him into a short-arm clothesline! Sting begins stomping away on the down Hogan, and this time Hogan can’t get away! Sting is relentless in his assault, hitting two elbow drops and going for a cover that only scores a two count.

Hogan tries to escape to break the momentum again, but Sting shoves him into the corner and starts hammering him with punches again. Sting gets up on the second rope and even starts biting Hogan’s forehead! Tommy Young gets involved at that point, pulling Sting away and nearly getting a right hand as well! Tony says that Sting is acting a madman here tonight, as Jesse wonders if this is what Hogan and Piper thought would happen a year and a half ago when they said that WCW and Sting were weak. Everyone gets a brief distraction, then, as…

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/woman.jpg

Woman makes her way to ringside, taking a seat right in the aisle. Tony and Jesse start a heated debate about if she is there on orders from Sting or from the Kings of Wrestling, but it seems as if nobody in the ring knows why she is there. Eric helps Hogan to take advantage of the confusion by getting his attention, as Hollywood finally gets to fight back after he hits a jab into Sting’s eye and a running clothesline, before locking him in a reverse chinlock. Hogan does what he can to apply as much pressure as he can, as Tony says that he isn’t really sure who the fans are cheering for at this given moment. Jesse says that some of Sting’s comments seem to have rubbed some of the crowd the wrong way, but the majority still remain behind Sting. Hogan utilizes some high body slams and some hard stomps along with some choking and closed fist punches to try and maintain an advantage. He pulls Sting around by his long brown hair, shoving him into the ropes before charging in with a knee to the midsection. Hogan fires Sting to the other side of the ring, and he hits the big boot – runs the ropes and lands the big legdrop! He makes the cover for ONE!

………………………………TWO!

……………………………………………………and a strong kickout by Sting sends Hogan nearly across the ring! Sting gets to his knees and he’s pounding at his chest! Hogan looks like he’s seen a ghost! The champion punches Sting, who glares at Hogan! Sting climbs to his feet, and Hogan is shocked! He gave him the big leg, the move that all men over the years have fallen to, and Sting kicked out! Eric slides Hogan Sting’s baseball bat, among protests from Tommy Young, but Sting blocks the swing and disarms Hogan in one swift motion! In a scene that most monster heels from the 80’s has seen in the ring against Hogan, Sting points the finger into Hogan’s face – a finger in the shape of a black baseball bat! He backs Hogan into the corner as the crowd start going nuclear with the heat they are giving this turn of events. Sting finally shoves the bat to Tommy, before slamming a right hand into the face of Hollywood Hogan! Tony says that it’s like the legdrop woke up the real Sting again, as Sting hammers Hogan with punches and chops, before sending him to the opposite corner, and a Stinger Splash! He shoots Hogan to the other side, and another Stinger Splash! Sting grabs Hogan and spins him around, drilling him to the mat with the inverted DDT, which Jesse dubs the Scorpion Deathdrop! He goes for the cover, and Tommy Young slides partway out of the ring in order to count!

………………………………………………TWO!

……………………………………………………………….THR-NO!

Tommy Young would have counted the three, but Eric Bischoff grabbed his leg and made him lose balance and fall outside the ring! Tommy and Eric are arguing, and Young is trying to tell Bischoff to go backstage! As this is going on, Sting takes his chance to howl at the fans, who howl in response. Sting grabs the legs of Hogan, and he turns him over into the Scorpion Deathlock! The audience are deafening as Sting applies the pressure, and Hogan screams! He tries to reach for the ropes, and begins crawling! He crawls on his stomach, doing all he can to alleviate the insane amount of pressure on his back. He almost makes it to the ropes – but Sting pulls him away! Hogan cries in pain as the pressure only intensifies! He then starts trying to put his hands underneath him, and he starts trying to press his way out of the hold! Sting manages to regain his composure though, forcing the champion back to the mat. But now, as the hold wears on, Hogan is fading fast. He looks like this may be it – but it’s not, as Hogan plants his hands again. He starts pressing up off the ground again, and you can see his eyes popping out of his head as he screams! Hogan actually starts lifting Sting off of him, all he has to do is kick his legs and maybe… just maybe… just maybe… and Sting repositions himself and keeps the hold locked in! At this point, Hollywood can do no more, and he signals for the submission! He nods his head yes, pounding on the mat in pain and frustration!

But the bell doesn’t sound – because Tommy Young is still outside arguing with Eric Bischoff. Sting has had this match won twice now, and he still has come up empty. He leaves the ring and walks over to Tommy and Eric, and he solves this problem quickly – he decks Bischoff, dropping him to the floor! Tommy Young starts trying to get some assistance out to the ring, as Sting slides back into the ring. Woman holds up the baseball bat, and Sting takes it. Tony and Jesse wonder why she is working with Sting here tonight, as Sting looks at his bat, before looking at Hogan, who is trying to drag himself to his feet. Sting looks to the audience, several of them screaming for him to do it and others telling him no. Sting is conflicted, looking back and forth. Tony questions what is going through his mind right now – is he going to use it and prove that he is a different Sting, or will he stay loyal to the fans’ support and cast aside the bat? Jesse says that this is no time for morals, he’s in a title match! Sting seems to not know what to do, this is a situation he’s not typically ever found himself. Does he lay out the man who has caused his life to be a living hell for the past year, or does he uphold the values of the fans who have looked up to him all these years? Sting holds the bat, and the crowd doesn’t seem to have any influence on him whatsoever, as he eyes up Hollywood Hogan…

Hogan drops to the mat, completely knocked out! Sting drops the baseball bat to the outside of the ring, and he stares at Hollywood’s fallen body for a few moments, his face that of complete emotionless again, just as it was at the start of the match. Sting makes a cover, and this time, Tommy Young slides into the ring to make the count!

……………………………………THRE-NO! Hollywood Hogan kicks out at the last second – and now he’s on his knees, shaking his head no! Tony calls this a blast from the past, as Sting punches Hogan, who actually starts Hulking up! The crowd are so baffled now, and even Ventura calls this surreal! Hogan and Sting are face-to-face again, and that’s when…

“Macho Man” Randy Savage and The Giant hit the ring, much to the dismay of Tommy Young; but he can do nothing but watch, as Sting stares down all of the foes in the ring. Hogan quickly gets more confident now that he has backup on hand. Hogan starts giving commands, telling Savage and Giant to get Sting, who looks emotionlessly toward them. On the outside, Roddy Piper also gets to the party! He slides into the ring as well, and before anyone can wonder much longer, Piper gives a signal.

The Giant grabs Hogan!

He heaves him into the air and drills him to the mat with a Chokeslam! Savage then charges Sting, tackling him and raining punches down onto his face! Woman reveals that she has Sting’s fallen baseball bat, as another face joins the crowd – Harley Race! Harley takes the bat from her and enters the ring, and as Piper and Savage keep Sting held at bay, Race nails him with it between the shoulder blades! The Giant then delivers a Chokeslam to Sting, laying him out right next to Hogan on the mat! Tommy Young had called for the bell long ago, which is good because he is threatened with a Chokeslam and quickly runs from the entire ringside area. Tony begs the million dollar question – what the hell is going on?!?

The show appears to not be over just yet, as Vader has appeared and roughly grabbed the microphone from Gary Cappetta. The crowd are in a stunned silence as this all unfolds before them, and Piper takes the microphone as Savage heads to the top rope and drills Sting with a flying elbow. Vader then lifts Hogan to his feet and drops him with a vicious power bomb! Piper talks over all this ensuing carnage, as he says that “It looks like the boys are back in town, huh?” Another loud slam, as Giant hits another Chokeslam on Hogan. “You see, there’s a great natural order to things, and when someone is too big for his britches, someone’s gotta knock ‘em down a few pegs. The bottom line is this; when we started this thing, we knew that the Kings of Wrestling needed a great figurehead. We told you all for a year and a half that it was me, Dusty, and Nick who got this all together – but somewhere along the line, Hogan started to think it was about him. We were all just little peons in his plans to be on top of WCW. He brought us the Nasty Boys – really, Hogan?! Your cronies got run out of town at the first sign of trouble! He thought that he brought us Randy, but he was dead wrong; Randy and I had already long ago spoken about him joining us! But the one thing he should never have done, was given us a Giant. Because he wrote out his death sentence when he did that, and especially when he did what he always has: forget about who and what brought him to the dance. Hogan, if it wasn’t for me, you’d have never won that title, and if it wasn’t for all of us protecting your sorry, self-righteous ass, you’d have never kept it this long! Well the time has come for things to change.” Piper mounts Hogan and rips his KoW bandanna off of his head, throwing it aside before raining punches onto his head. Savage picks up the microphone and says “I’ve been the real top jewel of the Kings of Wrestling for a long time now, and Hogan didn’t even realize it! Do you even know how hard it is to make yourself look second place? We made sure that Hogan thought he was the best – but Hollywood my ass! ‘The Macho Man’ has always been the better man! You’re weak, Hogan! And you were never my leader! You make me sick to my stomach!” Piper moves, and Vader hits a big splash, crushing Hogan’s ribs under his massive 450 pound frame! Piper takes the microphone back, and he continues. “Well it looks like ol’ Rod has the answers again. In one night, we not only gained the number one contender for the World title, which we also own, but we also killed our competition by signing them to our sign. Vinnie probably has a proud tear in his eye right now, don’tcha think? Scott Hall, Vader, Syxx, and Jeffy Jarrett are the new members of the Kings of Wrestling, if ya didn’t figure that out yet, and Brian? I hope you get a hospital bed next to your heroes here, because we ain’t gonna hear from you for a while; and it didn’t even cost us much to get them to do it to you!” Piper points out the presence of Harley, saying that “We now have the original wrestling icon, Harley Race! Harley was all set to be the new WCW commissioner, and then he found out that WCW were going to appoint Magnum TA? Well he came to us, the real legends around here, and he said that he would love to be a part of a place that will respect him!” Race nods, patting Vader on the back, and Vader delivers another big splash to Hogan, as Savage drills another flying elbow to Sting. Piper then trash talks Hogan about The Queen, saying that just like everything else that blew up in his face, Tammy was Hogan’s idea. “You needed some hot little tamale on your arm to stroke your ego some more, and she dropped you like a hot potato. Instead, I got us a woman who not only has the looks, but has the evil mind that will keep the KoW on the winning side at all times; she doesn’t have to be a Queen, she is the one and only Woman. I guess you know who she was trying to help in the ladder match now, right?” Woman gives an evil smirk, as Tony condemns her actions.

Piper moves on, saying “And I guess that brings us to you, Sting. Sting, Sting, Sting. You been making Hogan go crazy here the past few months. But you never worried me, because I knew that deep down, you’re just Sting; the same dopey good guy you always have been. But guess what? All the bad things that have happened to you, that you blamed Hogan for? You were wrong, because I orchestrated all of them! And like the dopey guy you always have been, you blamed Hogan for them! See, this is why we had him as our figurehead! Hogan was so busy keeping his head up his own hind end that he didn’t even know half of my plans at any given time! I have controlled the Kings of Wrestling and every move you made all year long, and look at yourself now. You’re nothing, Sting, I played you like a damn puppet! A year and a half, you’ve danced to the tune I played you, and bottom line, you haven’t even noticed the music was playing.” Piper motions to Woman, who pulls out a can of spraypaint from her purse. She hands it to Savage, and following the KoW members holding Hogan up for Giant to hit another thunderous Chokeslam on Hollywood, Randy rolls Hogan over and spraypaints “KoW” on his back! Vader and Giant then hold a lifeless Sting up off the mat, and Piper grabs him by the chin. He says that Sting isn’t worth getting “tagged” with the initials, saying that he has a better idea. He hands the mic to Woman, who holds it for him to keep speaking as he gets the can from Savage. Piper says that Sting doesn’t talk anymore, so why don’t they just spray his mouth shut? Piper takes the black paint and sprays it all across Sting’s jaw and mouth, before saying that Sting cries an awful lot up in his rafters, and he sprays “tears” down from Sting’s eyes! Tony says that the paint could be toxic, Sting may need medical attention for that. Piper shoves Sting away, and Vader drills him with another power bomb, leaving he and Hogan lying on the mat. Roddy says that “This is the new faces of the Kings of Wrestling – bottom line, it’s time to take over!”

With that, the KoW members all leave the ring, Savage carrying away the World Heavyweight championship; the camera stays looking at the fallen, broken bodies of Hollywood Hogan and Sting. Sting’s face is a mess, as we zoom in on the spraypaint job that Roddy Piper gave his face, and as we go off the air, Tony wonders aloud if we have seen the end of these two men at the hands of the new faces of the Kings of Wrestling.

Notes: Piper performed well, really enjoying the freedom to go off-script. Also, Race has changed his gimmick to a Grizzled Veteran as well as Woman’s gimmick of a cocky old school valet, both rating A*.

Rating: A

Wow! Just wow. Killing off the NWO that fast and that well leaving on the KoW. So, did I miss the part of Hogan turning face, or is his contract up soon so you don't even care (since I'm figuring Hogan's too hurt to defend his title at the next PPV so he has to give it up)? Guess it is going to be Dustin vs Savage for the vacated title? He's been shot to the moon by beating all 4 Horsemen. Wait, does this mean we're getting a Hollywood Blondes reunion as Pillman has to be a face again? That would be epic! Just an exceptional PPV from top to bottom.

That was excellent. I'm also wondering about the Hogan face turn, and I thought this was an awesome way to keep the KoW fresh. That Cactus/Savage match was phenomenal as well, and I found myself super hyped for Dustin/Flair after those promos. Absolutely awesome.

WCW Hotline: December 1995, Week 4

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/WCWHotline.jpg

WCW Hotline

4th Week of December 1995

Option 1: SuperBrawl Control Center!

Option 2: Backstage from Starrcade!

Option 3: Workers leaving WCW!

Option 4: WCW Monday Nitro preview!

Option 5: Last week’s ratings!

Option 6: Monday Night Waste!

Option 7: WCW Saturday Night preview!

Option 8: Mean Gene’s rumor corner!

Option 9: A gift from the WCW Catalog!

Option 1: SuperBrawl Control Center!

WCW SuperBrawl VI will be taking place in February 25th, 1996. No matches are announced at this present time, but keep an eye on WCW programming and the Hotline to find out more in the future!

Option 2: Backstage from Starrcade 1995!

Surprisingly, Dawn Marie and the Badd Girl really bonded backstage, and also Sting has taken newcomer Chris Kanyon under his wing. Our reports said that the turns of Alex Wright and Meng were a complete success and went pretty well, respectively. The futures of Dusty Rhodes, Brian Pillman, Eric Bischoff, and Hollywood Hogan are left in doubt. The post-show speech praised the great performances of Arn Anderson and Dustin Rhodes; Arn seemed pleased, while Dustin was happy with that. Cactus Jack was then given a hug, and was very happy about the special attention.

Option 3: Workers leaving WCW!

Terry Funk has left World Championship Wrestling following Starrcade. Terry has left behind a huge reputation, and WCW have said that they will gladly bring him back in the future; but they feel that he would not slow down toward retirement if he were still active on a roster. Funk was not willing to be solely a commentator as he was used earlier in the year, and as such he has been allowed to leave until he decides it’s time to hang up his boots. Also, three other contracts are ending this week, those being the three Hillbilly Cousins, Marky, Denny, and Hillbilly Jim. WCW management felt that the three could perhaps get over better elsewhere in wrestling, and have not renewed them. They will be out of the company within the week. WCW wishes them well in their careers, and have not ruled out a possible return in the future.

Option 4: WCW Monday Nitro preview!

Starrcade was last night, and there is HUGE controversy coming out of it! Be sure to tune into Monday Nitro to see what happened at the biggest show of them all, where the big boys play at 7pm on TNT, 10pm on TSN, and Tuesday nights on Eurosport!

Option 5: Last week’s Neilson ratings!

This past Monday Nitro drew a 7.79 rating on TNT, a 1.88 on TSN, and a 3.96 on Eurosport. Meanwhile, Monday Night Raw on USA only drew a 4.64. WCW Saturday Night had a 6.38 rating, while WCW Pro garnered a 0.49 rating, and Worldwide a 0.61. Starrcade 1995 drew a 4.45 buyrate on pay-per-view, eclipsing the 2.06 that the WWF gained the night previous for their December In Your House.

Option 6: Eric Bischoff presents: Monday Night Waste!

Raw this week is actually not that bad; if you want to see a show that isn’t as good as ours. “The Hitman” once again is on the losing end, this time being put down in a tag match alongside the face painted nut, as they go down to Vinnie Vegas and his little buddy. In other action, there’s a big tag match involving Johnny Polo and PJ Walker, a women’s match (though not a title match), World champion Burger King is in action but not defending his title as he defeats Tonto, and Bam Bam Bigelow teams up with the legendary Duane Gill to get a win over two other jobbers. Meanwhile, we have some serious stuff happening on Nitro! Tune into the program that has things going on!

Option 7: WCW Saturday Night preview!

All the happenings from Starrcade will surely still be felt by this Saturday! Make sure you’ve set your dial to TBS at 6:05 PM ET!

Option 8: “Mean Gene” Okerlund’s rumor corner!

A rumbling in WCW’s boardroom has said that a HUGE star in the WWF is being offered a contract to jump ship! It sounds like it will definitely be a “hot” signing!

Option 9: A special gift from the WCW Catalog!

Christmas is next week, so hopefully you called into the WCW Catalog and ordered a present for all the important people on your shopping list! In fact, if you ordered that many gifts, maybe you should order yourself a WCW tote bag, on sale for 20% off this month!

Lot of predictors this time around, I always like to see that :) Not much of a margin this time around, as most people got all the same matches right, lol. I was starting to worry about not having done tiebreaker questions until TheBigBad came along and scored higher than all the rest. So I shall drop him a PM with the motherload of prizes in the near future. There are two notes I want to give here; one, I did not count Pillman vs Austin because the match didn't happen, and two, if you said yes to Dusty being in Dustin's corner in pretty near any fashion, I probably counted it for a point. Thanks for playing!

----------------------------------------

There is one week of Nitro/SN/Pro/WW left, and after that I will be posting a full roster page with alignments and all, for the new year.

I can't really find many prediction comments on their own that I would want to highlight over others, so I will just give some thoughts after re-reading all of them. I feel as though probably not everyone is done commenting on the show, but maybe they are; so I'm just going to leave you all some thoughts.

- The US and TV title matches

Nobody saw Meng coming! Honestly, these two changes have a purpose, and that major purpose is that both Page and Eddy were too good for the titles they were carrying. After the match with Hogan, DDP shot to main eventer level, and being in the Horsemen has built Guerrero into a strong upper midcarder. It was time to move them both on. Also, I felt that Candido could use the pat on the back for being basically a masked jobber for a year.

- The nWo

I debated for weeks on what to do here. I didn't feel that they served the purpose anymore, because they couldn't really face the KoW while being heels but I couldn't see turning the group face. Just to note, I omitted the Brian/Austin match from predictions altogether, so while I said there were 15 points originally, it was a red herring, so I only counted 14 points.

- Backstage complaints

Very few people upset when I asked them to lose matches from this one. Lex Luger was upset when I first wanted him to lose to Vader, but I instead just went ahead and ripped off Starrcade 96 anyways. Guerrero didn't want to lose to Candido, so I kept him strong. Funk had no problems being dominated by Giant, which was awfully nice of him. Hawk fussed about losing the tag match, but I felt that the Hall and Jeff had to win that one to really anoint Syxx into the collective. I expected DDP to say something about losing his match, but I guess dropping the title without being beaten was a good deal to him. The surprise to me was Cactus Jack. He was upset about losing an open match to Savage. But I've given him such a good push (and a lot of praise for his good matches over the months) that I didn't worry about it, because his morale can handle it.

- Turns

In-game, I only booked two turns: Meng and Alex. Where does that leave the rest of them? We shall find out in the coming weeks.

- Flair/Rhodes

This was the best pure match on the card, I felt, and I tried to write it as such. While it wasn't the best rated, I wanted to make sure it fit the bill. More people predicted Flair on this one than I expected, given the way the feud had built; but I do know that I've done a lot of swerving you all in the past, so I guess it could easily have gone that route again.

- Sting/Hogan

I'm kinda surprised that anybody went for Hogan on this one, but a few people did. Mootinie was the closest to being right, with what he said about Sting chasing the title being probably the best narrative I've had in this entire game. Trust me, I'm not done with him yet. I don't know if anybody picked up on it, but the symbolism involved with the entire arc of Sting is very high in that match. Also, while a lot of people were calling Savage out for causing dissension, everybody forgot about good ol' Hot Rod ;) That match ending showed some new faces jumping to the black and white side, so while they may have turfed their former crown jewel, the KoW now can be restructured and stronger than ever. One thing that nobody seems to have noticed is that while Hogan was being destroyed and thus his cash cow being ripped away from him, Eric Bischoff was nowhere to be found, having been knocked out by Sting. So he's another one who is stuck in a limbo as far as the narrative goes.

As always, thanks for reading and playing along with my story everyone! Big thanks to CPB for putting me up for Spotlight of the Month, too. I can't wait to let you see where I go next as we get the march into 1996!

Had I paid for that PPV, the ending would have pissed me off bigtime. As a storyline development it was fascinating though, and obviously we don't charge anyone to read these (if only, right? :D)

Then again, even if I had paid for this, I would've gotten my money's worth from Dustin vs. Flair alone...

To me, it's obvious that this will lead to full-on Crow Sting. What's less certain is what happens with Hogan. I can't see anybody in WCW wanting to buddy up to him, and this doesn't feel like an appropriate time for him to revert back to the red and yellow. Perhaps he sticks with the black look but becomes less cocky? Maybe a lone-wolf tweener type or something? Time will tell.

One thing's for sure: I can't wait for Nitro!

I feel obligated to point this out...

“The Loose Cannon” Brian Pillman vs. Steve Austin

Time Limit: Mark Curtis

Referee: Mark Curtis

:D

The US and TV title matches

Nobody saw Meng coming! Honestly, these two changes have a purpose, and that major purpose is that both Page and Eddy were too good for the titles they were carrying.

I actually started considering the possibility of Eddy being above the TV title as I was reading through the Candido match, so that doesn't surprise me. DDP being too good for the US I find more surprising, but I guess that's because I'm comparing it to how I view the IC title in TGAAB.

The nWo as a whole turning face would not have been good, no. Pillman probably works better as a lone vigilante anyway, so this swerve shouldn't hurt him at all. I wonder if we'll see Pillman and Austin reform their uneasy alliance again to combat the Kings.

The surprise to me was Cactus Jack. He was upset about losing an open match to Savage. But I've given him such a good push (and a lot of praise for his good matches over the months) that I didn't worry about it, because his morale can handle it.

That is surprising. He's about the last guy I'd expect to complain about a loss, and I would have assumed Savage was more popular anyway.

It was definitely the match I was most looking forward to, and it delivered in a major way. To me the result was all about one thing: do you view Dustin as a potential headliner? If yes, you were never going to have a better opportunity to elevate him than this match, after all the buildup. This was a career-defining moment in my opinion, and he'd be on my shortlist of guys I'd love to see win the world title in the near future. Obviously there are a lot of contenders in the mix though.

Starrcade was indeed an incredible show, man! I was definitely surprised to see the nWo coming to an end so soon and Meng winning the US Title? Did NOT see that coming at all, but I can certainly understand your reasoning as to why you did it, same goes for the TV Title switch. I was happy to see Dustin beating Flair and as big of a year as 95 was for Dustin, I think that 96 could be even bigger. And that ending...just WOW! I can't wait to see where everything goes from here.

Great work, man!

Show Runtime: Two Hours

This show increased our popularity in 9 regions.

The New Sheriff’s First Ruling

Following a quick montage of still frames from last night’s huge Starrcade, we open the show with newly appointed WCW Commissioner Magnum TA standing in the ring with a microphone. He welcomes everyone to the St. Louis Arena for tonight’s WCW Monday Nitro, but says that he wishes there were better circumstances around his being out here to open the show. He says that anyone who watched Starrcade last night saw the Kings of Wrestling perpetrate a horrible attack on Brian Pillman, Sting, and even Hollywood Hogan. Magnum says that he hasn’t heard any reports about Sting or Brian, but Hogan’s doctors and lawyers have let WCW offices know that he has suffered severe internal bruising and will be out of action for some time. That leaves Magnum in quite a predicament for his first day on the job, as he is left without an active World Heavyweight champion. He gets interrupted at this point though…

<iframe width="100" height="75" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qpOlaLTXP4E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This brings out “Hot Rod” Roddy Piper as well as “Macho Man” Randy Savage, who have Harley Race and Woman at their sides. Savage still has the defaced World title with him, wearing it over his shoulder as if he were the champion already. Savage takes the microphone and tells TA that he’s going to make his job real simple; with pulling down the contract for the number one contendership last night, in the event of no champion that means Savage should be given the title officially right now! Piper agrees with that, saying that since Hogan got a little banged up, he’s out of the picture, and that means it’s time for the true Kings of Wrestling to be in charge, and since possession is nine-tenths of the law, the other tenth is just for Magnum and his little championship committee to do what’s right and give Randy the title. Magnum is about to answer when he is interrupted again, this time by “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair! Flair comes out and says that there is one gold standard in wrestling, and that’s the Horsemen, pal! He says that no matter who got their hand raised at Starrcade, the only man worthy of being handed the World championship is him, and the only reason Magnum wouldn’t do so is because he’s letting his emotions get in the way of what’s right! Magnum is about to say his decision but yet again he gets interrupted, this time by “The Total Package” Lex Luger! Lex comes out and tells Magnum that he isn’t out here to try and tell him to give him the title, just to say that there’s no reason he should give it to any of these vultures! Lex says that the World Heavyweight title belongs in WCW, and wants to be in a match for the title right here tonight! Magnum says enough of this, and tells them that he isn’t handing the title to anybody and he’s also not going to make a match for the belt tonight. Instead, he has discussed with the championship committee, and in the absence of Eric Bischoff to say yes or no, he is instituting a special pay-per-view event on January 14th, and the WCW World Heavyweight championship will be the prize in Battlebowl! “The Macho Man” starts to make a fuss, but Magnum tells him that as long as he gives the championship back right now, he will not be stripped of his contender’s contract and will be granted his match at SuperBrawl in February. Savage reluctantly hands the belt over.

Just as everyone is leaving, Magnum has one more thing to say, talking to Piper and Savage; telling them that they are not off the hook for causing him all these problems. He says that in tonight’s main event, Savage will be forced to find a partner and enter the ring in a street fight against these men – and out charges The Road Warriors!

Notes: Nobody was handed a full script in the first part of this segment. Lex and Magnum both worked the crowd well, using the freedom to improvise to their advantage. Savage did not do well with so many people and only so much time given, and Piper improvised well. Flair was superb off-script, with the crowd in the palm of his hand; he also has changed his gimmick slightly to a cocky old school heel, and it rated an A.

Ratings: B+ / B-

WCW United States Tag Team championships: The Armstrong Brothers w/Col. Robert Parker vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. & “The Rocker” Marty Jannetty

Mike Tenay joined commentary for this one, and he explains that when he spoke to Rey earlier, he could not find Juventud Guerrera anywhere, so instead he asked Marty to tag with him tonight. Mysterio and Jannetty definitely give the champions a run for their money, their high flying offense too much for Brad and BG to handle, even with Parker on the outside trying to maintain order. But the match comes to a sour conclusion as Juventud makes his way to the ring wearing his mask and street clothes, and behind Randy Anderson’s back he slips into the ring and hits Rey with the Juvi Driver! Brad is able to get on top and score a victory, but it seems like there is a much bigger story; Tenay says he will try to get an interview with Guerrera as soon as he can so Juventud can explain himself.

Match Time: 8:43

Notes: The turn was a complete success.

A Badd Time

After a commercial break, Jesse “The Body” Ventura is in a back room, likely not far from the announce table, where he stands by with Johnny B. Badd, Badd Girl, Harlem Heat, and the newest member to join their collection, “Das Wunderkind” Alex Wright. Jesse says that many are calling the men “insurgents” but Badd scoffs at that. “More like oppressed,” he says. Johnny explains that he, Harlem Heat, and Alex have been cast aside by the WCW fans and management, and that’s why they are standing as one, so that their voices can finally be heard. He says that Ron Simmons would have been a powerful ally, but instead he is a stepping stone in their path. Jesse says that maybe their message is working, because tonight Alex Wright faces off with new Television champion Chris Candido, and while Badd agrees with that, he says that had WCW given Alex his rematch for the TV title a long time ago, or had they just signed the match against Dean Malenko for the Cruiserweight title, then maybe this all could have been avoided. Badd says that they will be picketing the front office to make sure that they get in on the drawing for the Lethal Lottery, because one of these four men have just as much right as any other to be the WCW World champion!

Notes: Badd came across well as a leader here, and Jesse’s performance as interviewer was good.

Tying Off a Loose End

Jimmy Hart is seen looking nervous backstage, as he walks into the KoW locker room. The room is mostly empty, so he moves quickly through to a back office, where he finds Roddy Piper with his feet up on a desk. Jimmy asks him why Piper kept him out of the loop last night, and wondering why they did that to Hollywood. Roddy says that Hart was too close to Hogan, who was too much of a problem to effectively do business as the head of the KoW snake. Piper tells Jimmy that he has never really liked him, and only included him in the original plans for the Kings of Wrestling due to Hogan and Mr. T’s involvement – who, again, Piper has never liked. He is glad Jimmy is here, because he can get some enjoyment by saying it to his face; as the Kings of Wrestling are concerned, his services are no longer required. Jimmy looks heartbroken, but doesn’t get a chance to explain because Roddy tells him to get out before he fetches The Giant and makes him get out. Tony and Jesse comment that Piper is drunk with power, but Ventura points out that nothing has ever changed in that case.

Notes: Piper was allowed to go off-script, and again he performed well with the freedom to improvise.

Christmas Chaos?

“Mean” Gene is back in the interview area alongside the WCW World Tag Team champions, The Steiner Brothers. They aren’t scheduled for a match tonight, but are here tonight to talk about the holidays and family for this sit-down chat. During the interview, they even talk about the families of the men they vanquished last night and the respect they have for the Andersons and the Harts. Rick and Scott really talk nicely about how much they, as All-American collegiate athletes, are always happy to get a short break to celebrate with family and friends, and they hope that the rest of the world will be able to celebrate with theirs as well. Gene is wrapping up the interview but he gets interrupted by the coming of the Ruthless Roundtable! Lord Steven Regal, Earl William Clayton, Finlay, and Baron Leonard Tomas barge into the room, with Regal making fun of “the hind-end kissing” that the Steiners are doing here. He says that Christmas is just a typical American cash-grabbing holiday, and they should be ashamed to sit here and promote it as such a great family tradition. Rick especially gets worked up about this, as Scott says that he will be happy to personally shut “his Lordship” and his cronies up in the ring! Regal says that he would not “sully his hands with such filth” unless the titles are on the line! Rick immediately says that the two are fighting champions, and it doesn’t matter if they just defended them against two men or twenty last night, it’s on! “Come get some,” he screams, as security bust into the room to separate everyone! We have a World Tag Team title match tonight!

Rating: B-

WCW World Television championship: Chris Candido w/Tammy Lynn vs. “Das Wunderkind” Alex Wright w/Harlem Heat

“The Body” sides with Wright on this one, saying that perhaps if WCW had signed his title rematch sooner he would have stayed loyal instead of joining back up with Johnny B. Badd, but Tony says that he feels Alex would have eventually shown “these true colors” no matter what. Jesse also cites the stupidity of Candido for agreeing to the match, given the grueling battle he just had to win the belt last night; “he could have waited until Pro or Saturday Night before having to defend the TV title, instead he’s out here already!” Alex takes fast advantage of that possible stamina deficiency, using wear down holds to force Candido to work against him while not expanding a lot of his own energy. Tammy can only watch in fright as Wright sends Chris spiraling out of the ring, and then distracts referee Charles Robinson as Harlem Heat do a number on him! It really looks as though we could have a new champion crowned right here tonight, and it would have been thanks to Harlem Heat; until Ron Simmons makes his way down to the ring! He trades punches with Booker and Stevie, and that prompts Wright to leave the ring to help his new companions. The brawl gets heated and finds its way halfway up the aisle – and Alex ends up unable to make it back to the ring in time, getting counted out! Tony says that Candido has survived his first test as champion, but Jesse points out that Alex will very likely be after him again in the future after this.

Match Time: 8:37

Rating: C

A Giant Problem / The Giant w/Woman vs. Cousin Marky w/Hillbilly Jim

“Mean” Gene is seen backstage alongside Harley Race and Woman, who is leaning into the massive side of The Giant. Gene questions why The Giant would help Roddy Piper and Randy Savage when it was Hollywood Hogan who brought him into the sport of professional wrestling. Harley does the talking here, saying that while Hogan did bring The Giant into wrestling, he merely used this man, this monster as a bodyguard, throwing him at people in his way and never taking an interest in Giant’s career. He says that The Giant has eradicated Terry Funk, and he may never wrestle again – if someone like Cactus Jack wants to do something about it, then he can get in line for the chokeslam just like Funk did. Race calls Giant a “genetic freak of nature” saying that this man will hold gold in WCW sooner than anyone else could ever dream, with the right handling – and that is what he has now. Race says that it’s match time, and Giant and Woman head out to the ring. Once there, he wastes no time in toying with Cousin Marky, and the hog farmer is clearly outmatched from the start. The chokeslam ends this one mercifully, and Jesse wonders who will possibly be able to get this man off his feet.

Match Time: 5:08

Ratings: B / D

The Handshake Heard Round the World

“Mean” Gene is in the entrance way now, and he first talks about how WCW will be going on break from live shows over the holidays, instead doing recap shows over the next two weeks, but Monday Nitro will return live on Monday, January 8th, 1996, and if you want to know more about what is going on during that time, you will have to call the all-new WCW Hotline! He talks about how he, Tony Schiavone, and Mike Tenay will be bringing you all the best news from in and out of World Championship Wrestling, and you won’t want to miss that; call the Hotline, 1-900-909-9900, kids get your parent’s permission before calling. Now, he introduces his esteemed guest at this time, someone you saw earlier tonight and someone you saw in one of the greatest matches ever last night at WCW Starrcade, the one and only “Nature Boy” Ric Flair! Flair and Bobby Heenan come out, which prompts a small “weasel” chant but for the most part the crowd listens when Ric speaks. Flair is visibly pained while walking, but since when does Ric Flair let that stop him from coming out? He says that Gene is right, last night he wrestled one helluva match, and yeah, he got his shoulders pinned to the mat. He says that he made a promise as a man, and nobody can ever say that “The Nature Boy” isn’t the man, and with that he wants Dustin Rhodes out here right now. Gene asks if the Horsemen are lying in wait, but Flair assures everyone that Arn, Owen, and Eddy are not here tonight. “The Natural” comes out, looking just as worse for wear as Ric does as he limps to the microphone. Flair says to Dustin that he told the world he would shake his hand like a man were he to lose at Starrcade, and he will but first he wants to tell Rhodes something. He tells him that it’s been years since somebody took him to the limit like that, that not even someone like Hulk Hogan could do what Dustin Rhodes did last night. Flair tells him that he told “Double A” after the match was over that they were still right, that Dustin was not Horsemen material – but that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t get the respect of “The Nature Boy” for his performance. Flair does say that Dustin shouldn’t get too cocky, though, because if they meet in the ring again, it could just as easily have gone the other way. But, (whoo) last night was Dustin’s night to shine, and he shone like a star, and for that, he earned this – Flair sticks out his hand, and Rhodes shakes it! Gene calls this a huge moment in our great sport, and Dustin celebrates a little to the crowd as Flair and Heenan slip away, letting him have his moment.

There Are a Lot of Interruptions Tonight, Aren’t There?

After a commercial break (and the end of the first hour of Nitro) Cactus Jack is in the ring. He seems to have a lot to say, but he doesn’t get a chance to say any of it as he is quickly interrupted by the music of “Lionheart” Chris Jericho! Jericho has a microphone of his own, and he says that Cactus has been lulling everyone to sleep as of late, “Randy Savage this, Terry Funk that, blah blah blah; when is anyone gonna talk about a real family man, a real franchise, a rock ‘n roll icon, and one heck of a good looking man like Chris Jericho?” Jack is almost visibly shaking with rage at the intrusion, and he says that he had hoped that someone like Jericho would have taken his time before stepping into the arena with Cactus Jack, because he does feel Chris is a great talent here in World Championship Wrestling and that he will have an incredible career here – “but it seems you don’t want to have a long career! You – me – WCW Saturday Night! Bang bang!” Jericho looks scared, but plays it off by showboating some shadowboxing jabs – but anytime the camera is back on him, he’s scared again.

Notes: Jack performed well with the freedom of improvising his lines, and his performance was nothing short of fantastic. Jericho underperformed somewhat, for reasons that you’ll see on the Hotline. Call the new WCW Hotline!

One Pissed Off Man You Don’t Want to Piss Off!

“Mean” Gene comes back out to the ring and he brings out a guest who is sure to have a lot on his mind after last night – Steve Austin! Austin comes to the ring, walking with a purpose, and he plays to the crowd on all four turnbuckles. Gene recaps last night, when Austin was about to square off with Brian Pillman when both men were ambushed, brutalized, and spraypainted by the former New World Order, now all members of the Kings of Wrestling; his thoughts on that horrific turn of events? Austin asks Gene if Steve looks battered and bruised, to which Gene says yes. Austin asks if he looks like he’s been through a few six packs for rehab, and Gene says yes. Then Austin asks if he looks upset, and when Gene says yes Austin corrects him, saying that no, he’s downright pissed off! He says that Hall, Vader, Jarrett, and Syxx have a whippin’ coming to them, and if he happens to see any of them in the Battlebowl he will take great pleasure in giving them a Stunner or two and knocking them out of the way. Okerlund then inquires about “The Loose Cannon” but Austin says he doesn’t give a crap about Brian Pillman. “Maybe if he’d have stuck to his own devices instead of trying to find friends like he always does, then he’d be here to talk to you tonight.” Austin says that as far as he’s concerned, he’d slap Brian Pillman just as soon as look at him, so there’s obviously no love lost between the duo. Steve says that the KoW are poking at a real life snake, and just like any other rattlesnake, they never know where or when the strike is coming, but when it does it’ll be hard, fast, and the last mistake they ever made, and that’s the bottom line. Austin plays to the crowd again, lifting his arms on the turnbuckle, as Gene throws us to the backstage area and “Professor” Mike Tenay.

Notes: Gene improvised well here, but Austin was outright masterful with the crowd interactions, and his performance was very good.

Mike Tenay’s Turn for Interview Duty

“The Professor” thanks Gene, saying he can’t wait to see Austin get his hands on some of the KoW, but here’s someone else with a score to settle as he brings in the man so many more are now calling “The People’s Champion” Diamond Dallas Page, along with Kimberly. Tenay says that we are twenty-four hours removed from Page losing his WCW United States title, but that tonight he has a chance to try and regain it as he takes on “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff for the next title match, which he understands will be happening on the first live Nitro of the new year. Page says that holding the US title was the first certification that he had “made it” here in WCW, and to have it ripped away from him just because Orndorff couldn’t hang on for a few more seconds has him “all jacked up!” DDP says that he hopes “Paula” enjoyed the taste of the mat on his face last night, because tonight he will once again feel the BANG!

After Page leaves, Tenay says that he has another guest this evening, and with that he welcomes Ted DiBiase along with attorney Richard Stevenson. DiBiase does the talking here, saying that he is proud to have left the running of WCW in the hands of the championship committee and new commissioner Magnum TA, because he wants to turn his attention to something else that drives him in his life: managing. He says that from this moment forward, he is putting people on notice that Richard here is not simply his attorney, he is also his client, and with DiBiase’s help, he may just have some WCW gold around his waist in the near future. Stevenson looks terrified about stepping into the ring again, but the duo walk off with Ted trying to convince him that it won’t be as bad as he thinks.

Notes: Nothing to say about Page, but DiBiase came out of his section excellently. He changed his gimmick to a simple cocky old school manager, which rated an A*, while Richard was found to be very underwhelming.

“Blackjack” Barry Windham vs. Terry Gordy w/Col. Robert Parker

The Colonel is in a fine mood tonight, as his Armstrongs already kept the US Tag titles within the Stud Stable earlier. This match is just an outright brawl, as Windham and Gordy charge one another and punch, kick, and maim one another as if they are in a barroom instead of the ring. Jesse says that he’s noticed Parker and his boys keeping a low profile as of late, perhaps not wanting to let their heads get too above water what with all the other groups around; Tony just says that “they’re all chicken, just like Colonel Sanders down there.” Barry gets Gordy on the ropes following a big running lariat and a hard belly-to-back suplex, but when he tries to set him up for the superplex, Parker starts to see his winner’s purse deflating so he jumps up onto the apron. This distraction is just enough to throw Barry’s stance off, and Terry takes advantage by shoving him off the turnbuckle and leaping off the second rope with a big lariat of his own! Gordy stays on top to pick up the pinfall and make a really happy Colonel tonight.

This Week on WCW Pro!

A graphic comes up as Tony says that on WCW Pro this Friday, we will be seeing the first title defense for our new United States champion as Meng takes on the KoW’s pitbull, Smash! Tony wonders if Smash will be in there to win the title or just to try and find a weakness for “Mr. Wonderful” but there’s only one place you can see it and that is this Friday evening on TBS!

WCW World Tag Team championships: The Steiner Brothers vs. Lord Steven Regal and Finlay w/Baron Tomas and Earl Clayton

The Roundtable bring out their heavy hitter for this one, but that ends up being a mistake as he and Regal can never get on the same page – bad chemistry between two men who aren’t regular partners. They do manage to wear down the champions, especially with the help of the other two members on the outside, and a lot thanks to the short turnover time from this match since the last title defense the Steiners had. But Rick and Scott fight back amid chants of “USA” from the crowd, they are fighting for Christmas! Rick makes a hot tag out to Scott, and as Regal and Finlay try to contain him, he simply plows right through them, even punching down the Earl and Baron while he’s at it! Scott surprises a lot of people by leaping up and catching Finlay with a holiday-sized Frankensteiner, scoring the pinfall and retaining the titles for the pride of America on this day!

“Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff w/Harley Race vs. Diamond Dallas Page w/Kimberly

This one is set to be for the US title shot next time Nitro is on live, as the two other men from last night’s triple threat match are set to square off. Before the bell can even sound, however, Page is taken out from behind by Jeff Jarrett! Jeff and Paul assault Page, Orndorff holding him up for Jarrett to smash a guitar over his head and then Jarrett helping “Mr. Wonderful” to deliver a spike piledriver on him! The fans boo them loudly as this feature match never even got started.

“Mean” Gene comes out and meets the two in the aisle, asking them for the meaning of all this ruckus! Jarrett says that he’s sick and tired of seeing people talk about how great a man like Diamond Dallas Page is, saying that Jarrett is a second generation star who worked hard for everything he ever got, and still he gets nothing but disrespect. He says that he has had it “up to here” with trash like Page. Orndorff chimes in that he would have beaten Page anyways, and with no other contender in line, he will graciously accept the US title match next week, because that belt should rightfully be around his waist anyways! He leaves a warning for Meng, calling him “the weak link in the chain” that was the Wonderful Destruction Crew, and says that if he’s still holding the title next week, he better not drip any fish heads on it or anything, because it is coming to “Mr. Wonderful”!

Main Event Street Fight: The Road Warriors vs. The Kings of Wrestling w/Woman

Before a commercial break, we head backstage to see Hawk and Animal pulling on their trademark spiked shoulderpads. They pound their fists together and walk out of the room. The main event is next!

There are a lot of things which people can say about “Macho Man” Randy Savage, but one of the things nobody can deny is that he is smart. While the intention from Magnum TA at the opening of the show may have been for Savage to choose either Scott Hall or Roddy Piper as his partner, that was never explicitly stated – and so when he comes out with “The Monster” Vader at his side, this entire match has changed it’s dynamic. This street fight goes all over the ringside area, each man throwing wild punches at one another as this is nothing more than a common brawl. Hawk and Animal may excel at this, but the insanity and fury of Savage and the power and intensity of Vader are never to be overlooked. The four spill into the ring (as opposed to spilling out of it) and the match screeches to a halt as Woman also enters the ring, and she hammers Hawk with a low blow! This leaves Animal to be double teamed by Savage and Vader, and following a vicious power bomb, Randy drives a flying elbow down onto him and picks up the victory for the new Kings of Wrestling.

“Hot Rod” Roddy Piper, Harley Race, The Giant, and California Kip join their three companions in the ring, and after Kip tags Animal’s back with the “KoW” logo, Piper takes to the microphone. He says that if this is the best that WCW and Magnum TA have to throw at the Kings of Wrestling, then it’s no wonder that Hogan was able to keep the belt warm for the past year and a half, and no wonder that people like Sting and Lex Luger were such a big deal for so long – but these days are over now. “I’ve said it a million times and I’ll say it at least one more: just when you thought you had the answers, I changed the questions!” Savage takes the microphone and says that Magnum made a huge mistake by not letting him just have the World title, because now some other poor soul is going to have a short title reign. “Because that belt is coming back to the Kings of Wrestling as soon as I get my shot, yeah!” Piper takes over it again, and he says simply that from all the Kings of Wrestling, he wishes all the fans watching some happy holidays – because when WCW comes back from this break, nothing will ever be happy for the company again. We close the show with the KoW standing tall in the ring, but will Piper’s prediction really be will the new year will bring? The only way to find out is to keep watching World Championship Wrestling in the year of 1996!

Match Time: 12:21

Notes: There was a bad lack of selling in the main event. Piper performed well with his improvising, but Kip just looked completely out of place.

Sorry for the delay on this one guys, I intended to take a week off after writing Starrcade and it ended up being two weeks thanks to life intervening on me a little bit. Thank you for all the comments on Starrcade, and I hope to hear some about this Nitro as well. Within the week I will post the tapings, and then we will be finished with 1995!

Donn't think I have ever commented here Beejus but damn you must have a stacked roster! Loving the development of all characters. I don't imagine Hulk coming back with the yellow and red but with Jimmy out of KoW my mind has changed. Hulk as a babyface may be the only thing to stop KoW.

Austin is the second most interesting character in you series, I hope he gets a main event run similar to his real life one and perhaps him ending the KoW would be the perfect rub for him.

Badd I never thought was good, but your writing for him has changed my mind a little, there are so many factions currently but that was what it was like in the 90s and it was fun to watch.

I am interested to who your Franchise Players, Whos hot etc are.

94 was great, 95 was better. 1996 should be awesome. Good work Beejus

Hmm...might Hogan have put up a stink about losing the title, and this is at least partially why things have gone down in this manner? I know I had to do something similar to get the title off of him in an old Montreal Aftermath game.

I like Piper kicking Jimmy Hart to the curb. Hart is a Hogan man through and through, and has no place in the Kings now that Hulk has been usurped.

Battlebowl should be incredibly interesting, as there are just so many different directions you could conceivably go. And where does Sting, who was conspicuous by his absence, factor in? This diary is as must-read as it's ever been as we head into 1996.

Nitro was another terrific show, man. There is just so much going on and you're doing a great job of playing it all out. I am completely hooked and I have absolutely no idea what's gonna happen next. I actually think that my favorite part of the show was the segment with Dustin Rhodes and Ric Flair. Great moment with Flair showing his respect for Rhodes after Rhodes beat him and I'm really looking forward to seeing what 96 has in store for Rhodes.

Gene first asks Flair also why he felt he should be handed the WCW World title, and Ric responds that as the man who held the title before Hogan, that should put him right in line for getting it back immediately. Gene then says that we are about ten minutes removed from Flair shaking the hand of Dustin Rhodes, and he wants to know what Ric is thinking right now. Flair is not animated whatsoever, speaking calmly about how he believes in what he said about Rhodes; that he still doesn’t consider him Horseman material, but that he is an incredible athlete in his own way. Flair says that one day their paths will cross again, and next time it could go either way, but as for now, Dustin walked away with his hand raised; at Starrcade, he beat “the man”. Ric leaves the room, and Gene says that those were some powerful words. Flair did a masterful job of improvising, and Gene was superb off-script. He goes around the panel, introducing “Mean” Gene Okerlund, Rick Rude, and our special guest this evening, Theodore R. Long. Our first topic has to be Starrcade, and the World Heavyweight title. Gene says that it was a great match until the ending, Long says that “them homies got GOT by the KoW!” but Rude talks more about Sting using the bat on Hogan. He talks about symbolism, and how Sting actively using a weapon to try to win a match is a sign that the Sting we all knew and loved is dead and gone. Rude warns everyone that the future could be a very bleak place without the watchful eye of “The Franchise of WCW” keeping people like the Kings of Wrestling at bay. When Gene brings up that it was Rude’s meddling that caused things like this, Rick is quick to say that while he gave the ball a push, it was the Kings of Wrestling and WCW management who just let it roll out of control like this, pointing fingers at Ted Dibiase, Eric Bischoff, and Hollywood Hogan for not giving Sting the title shot he deserved. (B-)<p> </p><p> The panel then discuss something else from Starrcade and Nitro, that being Ric Flair and Dustin Rhodes. Tony says that it was one of the best, most pure matches he has ever seen in the history of our sport, Long says that he was surprised to see anyone defeat Ric Flair when he’s on his game like that, and Rude applauds both men, two men he has been in the ring with in the past. Gene goes out on a limb in this one, saying that his respect for Ric Flair shot through the roof when he held to his word and shook Dustin’s hand on Nitro, and even continued to praise “The Nature Boy” for his words that were aired yesterday evening on Saturday Night. Tony agrees with him, and Okerlund gets a few snickers when he says that “if only he and his Horsemen stablemates would get rid of that weasel, maybe we could all like them more.” ©</p><p> </p><p> Theodore Long sends us to the next match, urging fans to watch for how his home boys The Heavenly Bodies get robbed and cheated by a bunch of southern white trash crackers. The Bodies do indeed have a very good match against Ricky and Robert, the Rock ‘n Roll Express. These guys always have a well-fought affair, but Long’s cries of cheating are shown to be false as Morton simply catches Del Ray with a beautiful sunset flip to score the three count in 14:11. (B-)</p><p> </p><p> We now to go a sit-down interview that Mike Tenay had with “Youth Warrior” Juventud Guerrera. Tenay wastes no time in bringing up the past Juvi shares with Rey Mysterio Jr., calling them superb, young second generation stars, two great masked luchador athletes who came to WCW from the AAA promotion, and two of the premier high fliers in the world, but Guerrera says that is where the similarities end. Juventud calls Mysterio a sell-out, who has left Mexico behind looking only for his own glory, as opposed to Guerrera who is out for “la raza” and bringing the luchador ways to the world. Juventud says that he didn’t turn his back on Rey – Rey turned his back on him by not finding him for their title match, instead “picking up the first gringo he laid eyes on,” which he confirms to be a slight toward Marty Jannetty. Tenay asks him about that, and while Juvi does admit that Marty may have brought the high flying style to American audiences in the past, what Marty could do in his prime pales in comparison to what a true luchador can do. He closes by saying that what he does to Rey from here on is for Rey’s own good, so that he will never forget where he came from again. (D-)</p><p> <em>Note: Guerrera has changed his gimmick to cocky gangster, which rated A*.</em></p><p> </p><p> It gets brought up about JPL turning down Rick Rude’s proposal to be his client from Saturday Night, and Rude goes on the defense in a big way. He says that he thought JPL was a smart young man, and with his help he would go far. But Rude tells everyone that he has scoured the globe for talent, and it may not be long until he gets some guys under his wing who will appreciate his years of experience and advice, and that’s when JPL may have a problem coming his way! (C+)</p><p> </p><p> We then cut to a strange, dark promo, where we hear the raspy voice of “The Loose Cannon” Brian Pillman! Brian says that the New World Order falling apart was a huge wake-up call – there is nobody in WCW you can trust at current time, nobody in WCW or the KoW who would ever have your back. But one thing that you can trust, if not people, is an ideal… What is he talking about? (B)</p><p> </p><p> In the final televised match of 1995, “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton goes one-on-one with “The Enforcer” Arn Anderson. In a very good, old school type of matchup, Anderson ends up able to hit a DDT at 12:09 to score the victory. Also, completely agreed on Jimmy. Though the game threw me a curve ball clear back at the beginning of the game with Hogan and Hart having horrible chemistry, they have still been partners in the KoW for the whole time. Finally signed up after lurking these forums for ages. This is a wonderful, detailed, epic piece of work that I'm finally caught up on and look forward to following in real time after a week or so of frantic catchup.

Dustin Rhodes is my favorite character in this - and it really makes me wonder how he and Austin would have fared if WCW hadn't gone down the Hogan road.

WCW Commissioner Magnum TA has made the announcement that the WCW World Heavyweight championship must be vacated due to the injuries to Hollywood Hogan, and with that comes the need to determine the new champion. The winner of this year’s Battlebowl will not only win the coveted $15,000 Battlebowl Ring, but also the biggest prize in our sport! </div></blockquote><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Option 2: Announced for this week’s WCW Monday Nitro!</span></p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>After the holidays are over, sit down with the best action Monday nights can offer with Nitro! One of the biggest announcements we’ve heard regarding the show is that we will actually be hearing from Dusty Rhodes! Will it be “The American Dream” or “The American Outlaw” who shows up to Nitro? Two matches have been announced thus far, but more will be set by the time we go to air; some great tag team action as The Texas Blackjacks square off against Harlem Heat, and what should be a technical masterpiece as WCW Cruiserweight champion Dean Malenko takes on “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair! Also, we will see the drawing of one of the teams for Battlebowl’s Lethal Lottery! You won’t want to miss Monday Nitro! </div></blockquote><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Option 3: What you aren’t missing on USA’s Monday wrestling show!</span></p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>A show in Puerto Rico can be a blessing or a curse, and in this case the WWF were able to squeak out an alright offering. Once you get past all the skits and squash matches, even a squash angle including Shawn Michaels and Kwang, you get Bam Bam Bigelow and Bret Hart defeating Vinnie Vegas and his little buddy, and then Tonto defeating the Samoan Japanese man. But what do you want in your evening – “alright” or the best, most action packed evening you can imagine?! You know where to set your dials to, and that’s TNT! </div></blockquote><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Option 4: Last weekend’s WCW Disney/MGM taping results!</span></p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Obviously this past week, there were no tapings – because if there is one thing Ted Turner likes to play on TBS for the holidays, it’s Christmas movies 24/7. But next week, check in for the match results and any big happenings from WCW Pro, Saturday Night, and Worldwide! </div></blockquote><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Option 5: Mean Gene’s backstage pass!</span></p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Hello everyone, “Mean” Gene Okerlund here with your backstage pass! Last week on WCW Saturday Night’s taping, Chris Jericho suffered an injury to his “external proboscis region”; a broken nose! You could see he was clearly shaken up during his segment on Nitro, but some management were impressed by his going out there anyways. He is not going to miss any time, so expect him to be running the mouth underneath the broken nose on WCW television again soon… unfortunately! Also, word has it that Jimmy Hart’s WCW contract is nearing expiration. Will he be staying, or will he leave now that he was fired from the Kings of Wrestling? In other news, I’ve heard that WCW are going to stop paying out royalties for licensed music. Expect brand new entrance music to bring out all your favorite stars in the future! </div></blockquote><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Option 6: The Monday Night War Neilson ratings!</span></p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>People all around the nation tuned into TNT to find out what happened after Starrcade! WCW Nitro netted a 7.92 rating on TNT! Meanwhile, WWF Raw on USA only pulled in a 4.58 rating; it’s clear to see what people cared about! </div></blockquote><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Option 7: Tony Schiavone’s match of the week!</span></p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>The final week of World Championship Wrestling in 1995 saw a lot of high stakes matchups following Starrcade, but you definitely cannot underscore the performance of “The Dragon” Ricky Steamboat. To get back at Scott Hall for his disrespect towards Ricky’s family, “The Dragon” took Hall to the limit, pinning him by sliding out of the Outsider’s Edge and, in pure Steamboat fashion, winning huge out of nowhere with a quick rollup! This was not only the match of the week but it was one of the best matches of the year, so if you can, make sure to watch it again if you get a chance! </div></blockquote><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Option 8: Mike Tenay’s International Report!</span></p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Hello everyone, “Professor” Mike Tenay here with your international report! WCW and AAA have reopened a channel of communication, and may begin doing talent trades again in the near future! This past week’s AAA pay-per-view event saw a title change as Power & Glory, Latin Lover and Blue Panther, picked up their first Tag Team championship, defeating Team Life (Madonna’s Boyfriend and Angel Azteca) for the gold! The show was capped off by trios action (or as we in the states call it, a six-man tag) where tecnicos Perro Aguayo, Mascara Ano 2000, and Satanico defeated the rudo team of Mascara Sagrada, La Parka, and Pirata Morgan! In All-Japan Pro Wrestling, former WCW hellraiser Stan Hansen has won his fourth Triple Crown championship. Also, in AJPW’s Real World Tag League, the winners this year were Kenta Kobashi and Tamon Honda. </div></blockquote><p> </p><p> <span style="text-decoration:underline;">Option 9: A special gift from the WCW Catalog!</span></p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>The stakes couldn’t have gotten any higher when WCW presented Halloween Havoc, and now you can own the historic show on VHS! WCW, KoW, and nWo collided in a ladder match as Hollywood Hogan defended his World championship against Lex Luger and Brian Pillman! Also, emotions and pride were on the line in a street fight between Dustin Rhodes and Arn Anderson! It was a spooky evening, and it can join your collection this month! Press 0 now to order! </div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>-----------------------------------------------------------------</p><p> </p></div><p></p><p></p><p> <span style="font-family:'Comic Sans MS';"><span style="font-size:8px;">So yes, this is the new format of the WCW Hotline. Note option 4, which will now be the only place to find the results from Pro, Saturday Night, and Worldwide. This means Nitro will be the only TV show getting any kind of major write-up in the future, which only makes sense as it's really the only show that isn't throwaway. Option 5 will be my sole WCW newswire, which will cover everything from contracts to backstage incidents. Options 7 and 8 are there for pure flavor, sweet sweet immersion.</span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Comic Sans MS';"><span style="font-size:8px;"> </span></span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Comic Sans MS';"><span style="font-size:8px;"> Well, I guess that about sums up the NEW WCW Hotline, I hope you enjoy it... oh, what's that in my document? Is that... could it be? THE NEXT EPISODE OF NITRO STARTS, RIGHT NOW! </span></span></p>

It shows Magnum TA being confronted by the new heads of the Kings of Wrestling, Roddy Piper and Randy Savage, before announcing that the World title would NOT be handed to Savage, instead it will be the prize at the end of Battlebowl! We also saw the attack on Diamond Dallas Page by Paul Orndorff and Jeff Jarrett, and saw the handshake between “Nature Boy” Ric Flair and “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes.</p><p> We go from there into the opening pyro display, and <strong>Tony Schiavone</strong> wishes us a happy new year where the big boys play, on WCW Monday Nitro! He is alongside <strong>Jesse “The Body” Ventura</strong> and <strong>“Mean” Gene Okerlund</strong>, and what a Nitro to kick off the year with, fans! Tony talks about some of the big announcements that have been made during WCW’s time off, such as tonight’s return of Dusty Rhodes. Jesse actively questions which side Dusty will be on, and Gene says that he and Mike Tenay will be presenting comments from some of your favorite superstars regarding Battlebowl this Sunday evening. Tony talks about going to the great white north, the Molson Centre in Quebec to determine the new WCW World Heavyweight champion this Sunday, but says that tonight we will see a great match in “The Ice Man” Dean Malenko, his Cruiserweight title obviously not on the line as he takes on “Nature Boy” Ric Flair. Jesse says that he is anxious to see if Flair is going soft after last week’s display of sportsmanship, or if Flair is only winding up to be more dangerous than ever, with Gene saying that with that weasel behind him, who knows. Schiavone does point out that due to the actions of Paul Orndorff and Jeff Jarrett last week, Paul will not be getting his United States title match tonight as had been promised, because WCW Commissioner Magnum TA has decided that nobody can get a title match through such bullying actions! Tony then sends us down to Gary Cappetta as </p><div class="ipsEmbeddedVideo"><div><iframe width="200" height="113" src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/KiRWY2LPDTQ?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="" title="WCW Lex Luger 6th Theme(with Custom Tron)"></iframe></div></div> is making his way to the ring for our first live contest of 1996!<p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Notes: Tony had masterful crowd interactions, and Gene enjoyed improvising. Robert Parker</span></strong></span></p><p> Smothers hits a flurry of offense thanks to a distraction from the Colonel before the bell rang. Tracy does a good job of keeping Luger on the defense, even scoring a few near-falls in the first few minutes. But all it takes is one split second where Smothers takes his eye off his opponent, and Lex immediately takes the fight to his opponent, hitting clotheslines, a power slam, and a running forearm before making the signal for, and then locking in, the Torture Rack! Smothers wastes no time in screaming his submission.</p><p> “Mean” Gene catches Luger before he leaves the ring, and asks him for some of his thoughts regarding the past few weeks in WCW. Lex says that he would like to wish all the WCW fans a happy new year, and promises a new year from what 1995 had given. Gene says that Lex is obviously referring to the Kings of Wrestling and their stranglehold on the World title; Luger agrees that 1995 was not WCW’s best year in a lot of ways, but now that the title is out of the KoW’s hands, he will make it his mission to not let it fall back into their hands – and it doesn’t matter who he has to rack to do it! Gene then really makes Lex uncomfortable as he asks about Sting, and about his actions at Starrcade, and his disappearance at the last Nitro and also at tonight’s. Luger says that he was shocked that Sting would have used a baseball bat to try and win a World title like that, but says that he hopes to see Sting come to his senses after this short break, because Luger and Sting as best friends, along with all their other friends in WCW, could finish the Kings of Wrestling off singlehandedly, and permanently! Gene thanks Lex for his time, and Luger finishes the interview off by saying that he wishes all of WCW luck in Battlebowl, but warns them that if they get in his way, they will get racked!</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Match Time: 6:10</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Notes: Lex enjoyed improvising here and performed well, and Gene was superb, holding the crowd in the palm of his hand.</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Rating: C+ (match) / B+ (interview)</em></span></p></div><p></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Nuevos Gringos Locos vs. The Twilight Express w/Stan Lane </span></strong></span></p><p> This was just a quick tag team match to establish the Twilights a little better. Eaton and Taylor had their hands full with the tricky Barr and Chavo, but with Stan Lane cheering them on they were able to rally into a victory, as Bobby pins Guerrero following a Rocket Launcher.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Match Time: 6:45</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Rating: D+</em></span></p></div><p></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Devon King w/Harley Race vs. JPL </span></strong></span></p><p> A very disgruntled Rick Rude joined commentary for this match, saying he wanted one more time to sit back and watch JPL in action. Devon is always game for a challenge, and he really wants to try hard to impress his KoW brethren and make sure that their training of them was not in vain. But tonight was not his night, as the seasoned veteran JPL physically took him apart within minutes. JPL waited until King telegraphed a back body drop to grab him and drill King’s face into his knee, before setting him up and planting him with the Pedigree. The crowd were a little deflated at the short time it took, but cheered on JPL anyways. Rude had a lot to say during this match, as Tony picked at him over JPL turning down his managerial services; namely saying that he had found someone to manage, and when he gives the word, they will make sure that JPL’s last matches will be JPL’s <em>last</em> matches. As for King? It appears to be back to the drawing board on ways to keep his head above water in the Kings of Wrestling, despite a few claps of appreciation from the audience.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Match Time: 6:03</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Rating: C+</em></span></p></div><p></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">WCW World Television championship: Chris Candido w/Tammy Lynn vs. Arkane w/Nurse Ana R. However, if anyone can be said to be on a roll in WCW, it is certainly young Chris Candido. Tony and Jesse talk a lot about what Tammy has done for his career here, as he went from opening matches at house shows under a mask to having a headline matchup with Hollywood Hogan, and now holding the coveted TV title. As you could imagine, this match is mostly a showcase for Candido, who retains his title after very little fuss, courtesy of his New Jersey Jam legdrop.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Match Time: 5:03</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Rating: D+</em></span></p></div><p></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Battlebowl Comments </span></strong></span></p><p> We head to a WCW Event Center room, as <strong>“Professor” Mike Tenay</strong> spells out the rules of Battlebowl and the Lethal Lottery to us. This year’s field will feature only 20 men, who will be randomly drawn from The Official WCW Tumbler© to square off in tag team action with partners who they will not know until the same moment that the fans do. The winners of those tag team matches will come back out to the ring and compete in the Battlebowl, the only over-the-top-rope battle royal you’ll need this month! The stakes cannot be higher, as the winner gets not only the newly minted $15,000 Battlebowl Champion Ring but also the World’s Heavyweight championship! He then sends us to comments from some of the hopeful stars of the Battlebowl. We first see <strong>Diamond Dallas Page</strong>, who is looking worse for wear after last week. He says that it doesn’t matter what shape he’s in, because all Jarrett and Orndorff did last week was jack him up! He says that nothing in this sport matters more than the WCW World title, and if he has sore ribs, a broken leg, a shattered neck, he would still make it to Battlebowl this Sunday to get his name in the Lethal Lottery, and everyone else in that ring will feel the BANG! <strong>Johnny B. Badd</strong> and <strong>Alex Wright</strong> are shown next, Badd doing all the talking as he says that WCW are in for it now, because any one of his crew could get that World title now that the playing field is level. He says it doesn’t matter if it’s Booker, Stevie, Alex, or himself who make it to the Battlebowl, because on an even field, only the cream will rise to the top. We then hear from <strong>Scott Hall</strong> and <strong>Vader</strong>, who grunts about being the man and feeling no pain, and that the belt is coming back to “The Monster” this Sunday! Hall says that “the big mang” is right about one thing, that the Kings of Wrestling will definitely be holding that World title again by the end of the week; whoever holds it. Vader gets in Hall’s face a little, saying that the championship will be his, and leaves as Hall simply says “we’ll see”. We hear from <strong>Lord Steven Regal</strong>, who promises to give the title some much needed class after all the crass who have held championships around here lately. <strong>Steve Austin</strong> closes out this round, saying that he doesn’t give a crap about WCW or the Kings of Wrestling, he cares about Steve Austin. And the one title Steve Austin has yet to hold here in WCW is the World Heavyweight championship, so he’s going to do whatever it takes to put that big gold belt in his hand, around his waist, and that’s the bottom line!</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Notes: DDP improvised well, but Badd did not. Tony notes that Dusty is wearing his cowboy hat and denim, definitely not his Kings of Wrestling black and white. “Big Dust” seems awfully excited to be here, telling the fans that he’s back, baby, and the times are a-changin’! Dusty talks about “putting some old scalawags in ‘dey place” at Starrcade, and how it felt so good to be helping Dustin out again. The crowd start to react positively, as it seems as if “The Dream” is alive and well… <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tK8-ikRQcVc" rel="external nofollow">until…</a> <strong>“Hot Rod” Roddy Piper</strong> and <strong>“Macho Man” Randy Savage</strong> make their way out to the ring as well. Piper says he wants to be the first to welcome Dusty back, following that brutal knee injury that the Horsemen gave him back at the Great American Bash. He even says that it’s great Dusty took his chance to hurt the pride of one of the bigger thorns in the KoW’s side, the Horsemen. But it seems like he forgot about something. Savage takes the microphone, saying that he thinks it was great that Rhodes helped his son, and also thanks him for taking Flair out of the equation like he did; but it is a new day for the Kings of Wrestling. He says that everyone saw how Dusty and Hogan butted heads constantly in the KoW, and he didn’t blame Dusty for feeling maybe a little sour towards the group he helped to create. Piper talks again, saying that he and Dusty and Nick started this whole thing, and now they are at a level that they don’t need Hogan to sustain it – and that’s why he isn’t asking him right now, but he will give Dusty some time to figure out where his priorities lie. Randy throws Dusty something black, and Rhodes opens it up to reveal a Kings of Wrestling shirt. Savage tells him to think about how far they’ve all come so far, and how much more they can do; telling him to remember WCW trying to push him aside, and why he helped to forge the KoW. Dusty looks like he has a lot on his mind, as the two lead the crowd in a round of applause for a very conflicted Dusty Rhodes, as we go to commercial break, the first hour of Nitro drawing to a close on this cliffhanger: where <em>do</em> Dusty’s priorities lie?</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Notes: Dusty enjoyed the freedom to improvise, and Savage did some masterful crowd interactions, also having a good performance. Following a brief offensive flurry, Rick took the young Porteau to school before forcing him to submit to the Quebec Crab.</p><p> <strong>“Lionheart” Chris Jericho</strong> interrupts the victorious Martel from the aisle, saying that over the holidays, he was given such a great Christmas present that he suffered a vicious nosebleed so badly that WCW doctors will not let him compete in the near future. Martel throws his hands up, calling Jericho a coward, but Chris shrugs him off, pointing out the face protector that he is being forced to wear that covers up his “gorgeous, rock star looks” from all of his wonderful yet heartbroken Jerichoholics. Instead, he says, he has a surprise for Martel! An old acquaintance of both of theirs, who has seen the light and is quite possibly the biggest Jerichoholic you can find – both in spirit and size! Out of the crowd he sneaks up behind Martel, and hits him with a brutal clothesline – it’s <strong>The Warlord</strong>! The Warlord is here in WCW, and he’s putting the boots to Rick Martel! Warlord locks in the Full Nelson, swinging Martel around as Jericho says that when he met Warlord in Japan a few months ago, it was his dream to follow “The Ayatolla of Rock ‘n Rolla” back to American soil, and that is exactly what he did for his new bodyguard! The limp Martel gets thrown aside, and Jericho poses with Warlord; who can stop this loudmouth now that he has <em>this</em> kind of backup?</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Match Time: 2:34</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Notes: Jericho improvised tremendously here, and Warlord has debuted with a brute bodyguard gimmick which rated an A.</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Rating: D+ (match) / C+ (attack)</em></span></p></div><p></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Battlebowl Comments, Part Deux </span></strong></span></p><p> “The Professor” is back from the Event Center, and he has a new round of hopefuls to hear from. We first hear from last year’s winner, <strong>Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat</strong>. Ricky says that he knows all about being a champion and all about winning Battlebowl, and with both of those things in his mind he is definitely planning to win it all again! We then go to <strong>Ron Simmons</strong>, who is adamant about the chance to get back the title that he lost in 1992. He talks about how even though he’s been sidetracked for a while, there is nothing that anyone who has held the belt wants more than to hold it again. From there to someone who hasn’t held a title on this grand stage yet in his career, <strong>Jeff Jarrett</strong>. Jarrett says that he joined WCW and the New World Order knowing he was a double agent for the Kings of Wrestling all along, and it’s that level of cunning, along with his own God-given talent, that can lead him to victory in the Battlebowl this Sunday night. We then hear from <strong>Cactus Jack</strong>, who talks about how he’s always wanted to stand atop the world and have everyone cheer his name… not that long ago, he says he was treated by the rest of the WCW roster like a leper, but now he’s shown that he can stand next to all of them, and by the end of Sunday, maybe even as a champion. Our next promo comes from <strong>Ric Flair</strong> and <strong>Arn Anderson</strong>. Flair does most of the talking right now, but in true “Nature Boy” fashion he puts over not only himself but also Arn, Owen, and Eddy all at once; saying that the Horsemen are the elite, and once they regain the World title that Flair never lost, everyone will be put on notice. “It don’t matter which one of the four it is, because we can all hold any title we would set our minds to! The final four of the match could even be all four of us!” Our final promo comes from a man who won’t be in the Lethal Lottery, <strong>“Macho Man” Randy Savage</strong>, who says that since he won’t be in any matches this Sunday, then maybe he will just go down and do some major scouting on the spot for the whole show, by joining in on commentary for the night! Mike Tenay urges everyone that if you order any pay-per-view featuring a battle royal this month, you have to make it this Sunday’s Battlebowl!</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Rating: B</em></span></p></div><p></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">The Newest Stud in the Stable </span></strong></span></p><p> Mike Tenay is now shown backstage (likely pre-taped) as he brings in his guest, <strong>Colonel Robert Parker</strong>. Tenay says that perhaps Parker wishes it were the beginning of 1995 all over again, as that is when his Stud Stable were more relevant, but The Colonel waves Tenay’s quips off as he brings <strong>Terry Gordy</strong> over. Parker says that while it’s true that Terry hasn’t held another piece of gold since dropping the US title, the Armstrongs still have the US Tag titles, and also he cut a huge deal with the Kings of Wrestling recently anyways. Mike is curious about this, until Parker explains that he has officially signed away one of their members in exchange for “occasional compliance” with the group, and he brings in <strong>Bubba Rogers</strong>! Parker says that there’s no more “Guardian Angel”, there is only Big Bubba Rogers, the newest card-carrying member of the Stud Stable! Tenay says that this is a huge announcement, wondering just what Colonel Parker has in mind for the future of the Stable now that he has Rogers under his wing, as he throws the show back to Tony and Jesse.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Rating: C-</em></span></p></div><p></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Natural Arrival </span></strong></span></p><p> We go backstage to see that <strong>“The Natural” Dustin Rhodes</strong> has just arrived to the LaCrosse Center for his match later. Tony says that they had been told Dustin was driving here from an official WCW autograph signing that ran late, and so he did not hear what his father had to say earlier. He says that Gene Okerlund is going to try and get some words from Dustin as soon as he can about it, but for now, Dustin has a tag team match to prepare for, as he and Barry Windham will take on Harlem Heat later tonight on Nitro; so don’t go anywhere, fans!</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Rating: B</em></span></p></div><p></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">The Four Horsemen (Arn Anderson, Owen Hart, and Eddy Guerrero) w/Bobby Heenan vs. The Patriot, Sgt. The Horsemen decimate their mix-and-match opponents in this one, easily picking the bones on each one of them as “The Brain” applauds every maneuver from ringside. Anderson plants Parker on the mat with a DDT, before tagging out to Guerrero, who drills a Frog Splash to pick up the rather easy victory.</p><p> “Mean” Gene talks to the four men after the match, stirring up Bobby by calling him “weasel” but mostly it is Arn who does the talking. Anderson puts over the Battlebowl and Lethal Lottery, saying that the Horsemen are the elite, and always have been; put them in a match with each other or against each other, and what you have is the best match you’ll ever see. He talks about having won World War 3 last year, and says that if he could outlast 59 other men in three rings, there’s no reason he can’t do it to 9 other men in one ring. He adds that Owen, Eddy, or Ric are just as capable as well, and that when it comes down to it, there’s no reason a Horseman won’t be standing tall at the end of the night.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Match Time: 4:40</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Notes: Bobby really helped Arn here, but Eddy is still performing poorly due to a lower overness.</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Rating: C (match) / B (promo)</em></span></p></div><p></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">The Texas Blackjacks vs. Harlem Heat </span></strong></span></p><p> Two of the more premier teams in WCW go at it with nothing on the line but the winner’s purse. This one went back and forth for a few minutes, with Dustin getting worked over in the Heat’s corner after he let his emotions get the better of him on a chase around the ring. Booker and Stevie show their great tag team chemistry and experience by utilizing every trick they have up their sleeves, including some that had to be done behind referee Mark Curtis’s back. Jesse mentions how this match could have relevance going into the Lethal Lottery, as if one of these guys figures out they can’t win with their own regular partner, that could be dangerous for their psyche going into a situation where they don’t know who their partner will be. Rhodes manages to escape the Heat Seeker (electric chair/missile dropkick) by dropping off of Stevie’s shoulders, and he makes the hot tag to bring Barry in! Windham is a house of fire, and Booker eats the bulldog from Dustin, leading to Stevie getting drilled with a Texas-sized lariat as the Blackjacks pick up the hard-fought victory!</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Match Time: 9:45</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Rating: B-</em></span></p></div><p></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">The First Team is Drawn </span></strong></span></p><p> “Mean” Gene is out in the aisle with The Official WCW Tumbler© to draw the first team of the Lethal Lottery! He warns that the two names he draws could be men who have never exchanged a word in their lives, they could be best friends or they could be the most bitter of enemies! He questions what could happen if the names he draws could be Lex Luger and Roddy Piper, who would then have to find a way to work together; or it could be two men they just saw, Booker T and Stevie Ray. He points out that Harlem Heat ended up getting the luck of the draw like that last year. He says that of all the teams he hopes to see in Battlebowl, he would love to see Ric Flair end up teamed with Dustin Rhodes, to see how the two would coexist following the previous Nitro. He says that the only man not eligible to be drawn from The Official WCW Tumbler© is “Macho Man” Randy Savage, who will receive the first World Heavyweight title shot from the new champion at SuperBrawl in February. Gene also talks about how excited he is for this Sunday because he will not be alone at The Official WCW Tumbler©, he will be joined by none other than Wheel of Fortune’s own Vanna White! With no further ado, Gene draws the first name, and it is… <strong>Scott Hall</strong>! Gene then reaches back in, and the name he pulls out makes him groan. As if the KoW need <em>any</em> advantage, the man teaming with Scott Hall will be none other than <strong>Syxx</strong>! Hall and Syxx come out from the back, commandeering the microphone as they shove Gene out of frame. Syxx antagonizes the crowd as Hall says that this is “one more for the good guys,” saying that it doesn’t matter who he and “the Syxx-Pac” face, there is no doubt they will be heading into the Battlebowl now. He sends a special invitation for “that goofball Brian Pillman” to watch Battlebowl to see how winning is done!</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Notes: Hall performed good, but Syxx is still rather underwhelming at this stage.</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Rating: C</em></span></p></div><p></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;"> “Ice Man” Dean Malenko vs. “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair w/Bobby Heenan </span></strong></span></p><p> Gary Michael Cappetta is shown in the ring, and he gives a big introduction to our main event participants as they make their ways down to the ring, first Dean Malenko and then Ric Flair.</p><p> What follows is a main event that sees what Tony calls two of the best pure athletes in the history of our sport competing in one of the best matches this year may be witness to. Jesse says that if WCW wanted to open the new year with a bang, this was the match to do it with. Dean and Ric go hold-for-hold, wowing fans with their mat wrestling acumen, “The Ice Man” even putting Flair on the defensive with a flurry of hip tosses into a stepover arm bar that he never saw coming. The match never loses pace, as the two men go all out to establish themselves with each and every hold and strategic move. Tony says that Flair has nothing to gain in this match, as Flair is well above the 225 pound weight limit for the Cruiserweight championship, hence this being a non-title match. Jesse all but calls him stupid, saying that both men have a lot to gain in this match, as a win over “The Nature Boy” would be a huge feather in the cap of Malenko, but after Starrcade Flair needs this victory to show that he is still on top of his game. He ends up doing all of that and more, as Dean falls into the trap of “The Nature Boy”, who actually wrestles this one fairly when Malenko seemed to spend the whole match waiting for “The Dirtiest Player in the Game”. It was that keeping him off his balance that Flair used to his advantage. Ric blocked the Texas Cloverleaf by going to the ropes, and when Malenko argued with Tommy Young, Flair came up from behind and hit a kneebreaker; that was just the beginning of the end, which ended with the figure four leglock and the victory for the leader of the Four Horsemen.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Match Time: 11:40</em></span></p><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em> Ratings: C (intro) / B (match) </em></span></p></div><p></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Too Hot for even the Hotline! </span></strong></span></p><p> Gene Okerlund rushes out to the announce booth before we go to our last commercial break, saying that he has an exclusive that is too hot for even the WCW Hotline – his sources have told him that Eric Bischoff will be on hand live at Battlebowl this Sunday! Tony says that is a shocker, because we do not know where the WCW Executive Vice President stands on the Kings of Wrestling breakup, as he had been taken away following a right hand by Sting before the betrayal occurred. Savage talks about how Giant is going to be watching his back at Battlebowl this Sunday night, saying that if anyone decides to try and jump him to get an advantage for SuperBrawl, “this monster will be right there to say no way, Jose!” Piper says that he cannot wait to see the faces on everybody when the Kings of Wrestling do what they do best – dominate the competition – and officially win back the WCW World title on Sunday. He says that despite their own ambitions, it doesn’t matter to him who wears the belt, as long as it is back where it belongs. He talks about how Magnum TA may as well have saved his WCW boys the misery of going through a match by just giving the belt to the number one contender, Savage; but that will just make it sweeter when the KoW have it back and prove that just like back in the 80s and from the early part of the 90s, WCW sucks, and the only reason to watch is the Kings of Wrestling. The love-in gets interrupted though, when <strong>Lex Luger</strong> comes down to the aisle, and he says that Piper and Savage are wrong – WCW is the hottest place in wrestling right now, where the big boys play, and it’s not due to them, it’s because of men like Sting, Lex, and the fans who tune in every week! Piper rolls his eyes, saying that the fans never know what they really want, they need to be told who their heroes are by people like he and Savage; but Luger tells him to shut up, because the fans know exactly who they want, and that’s WCW! Lex says that they can try and predict victory for the KoW on Sunday or at SuperBrawl all they want, but he will be there to do all he can to stop them – along with all of his WCW friends! At that, he is joined at the top of the ramp by not only the <strong>Road Warriors</strong> but also the <strong>Steiner Brothers</strong>, and they all look ready to take down anyone the KoW can throw at them! The Lethal Lottery and Battlebowl is this Sunday fans, so order now to see who the new WCW World Heavyweight champion will be!</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><span style="font-size:8px;"><em>Notes: Piper, Savage, and Luger worked the crowd well, whipping them into a frenzy with their improvising.
