  1. Nobody ever stays retired in pro wrestling! And all the DQ finishes were necessary when you're running weekly shows all over your territory and TV sometimes ended up out-of-sync. It let you draw out money-making feuds and gave the rotating band of heels longevity in the territory before they needed to move on. And you could have those no-DQ Texas Death Matches or Cage Matches to finish off the feud where the story had been that the dastardly heel always kept cheating and taking the easy way out, but now, they couldn't. It's definitely different now with TV being everything (I honest-to-God have no earthly idea why anyone goes to a WWE house show. It's paying to watch a Broadway show do tech rehearsals, except they're not televised regularly.).
  2. Very interesting that Moolah is feeling what every promoter felt by the mid-1980s. She's going to get steamrolled into irrelevancy. Couldn't happen to a bigger awful pos. "Whatcha gonna do when the poutine runs wild on you, Moolah!" The NWA should make Renee the new champ after Moolah refuses to drop it to her in a match to be booked in Montreal or NYC later. You think Memphis went bonkers when Lawler finally won the AWA World Title. It'll pale in comparison when Renee wins that NWA Women's title in Montreal.
  3. Tune in for the next episode of As The World Turns where Renee gets a crippling painkiller addiction and why did that doctor order a pregnancy test? Sigh...I miss that show. Glad Renee is probably going to only be shelved for 2-3 weeks. Just how much longer is Moolah going to get to hold the World Title if she keeps sending her goons out to hurt people? Come on Mushnick. Call her bluff.
  4. Wow, hadn't realized it had been this long since I've checked in on the diary. Glad you're back from your cold. I'm back from losing my Dad (and the fun of trying to find documents and failing to find a lot of them). And I'd be watching the hell out this on WAVE-3, except I wasn't born until 1975. However I will add that once Jerry Jarrett took over Memphis and Louisville, we got 1-hour wrestling broadcasts at 12/11 central so that 2 pm slot is an hour late. I'd blame it on Dance Fever or Solid Gold, but Disco hasn't hit yet.
  5. Ouch, I was wondering if he couldn't get the AWA on his side in the war due to the girls doing so much business with them recently. Forgot that the Vachons were tight with Verne. I wonder if the war lasts long enough if Moolah doesn't make a call to them to offer her girls for some matches. I'm sure with the feminists getting wind of why the war started, eventually, that they'll have to cave at some point. That would further complicate the potential AWA vs WWWF war just over a decade before Junior obliterated them irl.
  6. There's a great Heenan history (I hate to call it a documentary) on Original Wrestling Documentaries YouTube channel. Or just search Bobby Heenan.
  7. Quick, somebody make a GIF of Moolah's head on one of those Scooby-Doo villains when they're unmasked at the end of the episode so she can say "And I would have gotten away with it if it weren't for those meddling kids!" Sadly, their punishment is to go wrestle at MSG. Though putting over Moolah is quite the punishment.
  8. Wait, I don't think I've ever noticed that before, but you're running Tornado Tag rules either the whole time or just for the tournament? (Since Richard jumped into the ring and got the win after her partner fell out of the ring) I'm fine with it, just never seen it noted anywhere. I didn't think that was a common tag style, at least it wasn't in the 80s outside of Texas which is why it was dubbed the Texas Tornado Tag match for most of my life until they just dropped the Texas part (wish we could drop Texas as a whole). Those East Semis are going to be brutal.
  9. If only there was an unknown dancer on In Living Color that could have appeared on the show for Fox...maybe Ben Affleck was watching the show at home? And Gregory J Valentine as an evil chiropractor would have been amazing. Seriously, the gimmicks in early 90s WCW were pretty terrible unless you ended up an iconic wrestler. I so would have given him that alter ego and added him to the group.
  10. A very petty Mildred Burke would have those 4 bye spots be announced in the arena as "Moolah's Girls (insert names) were scheduled to be here, but Moolah was too gutless to allow her girls come out and here and face real competition so they are now byes. Maybe they'll have the balls to appear next time." Just rub her nose in it 4 times and have the arena boo her which will magically appear in the newspaper write-ups so she'll see them back in NYC when they arrive in a few days.
  11. The NWA World Title absolutely held a ton of clout. The promotions' titles? Nope. They were passed around willy-nilly with the formula of "Big bad heel comes to town, attacks the hero champ, gets title match and wins, the hero chases for about a month, gets the match and wins it back. Maybe the heel loses the rematch before leaving town, maybe not. That's how a lot of the territory's stars have 20-30 title reigns with a belt. The wrestler would draw the money not the title as it was basically shorthand for the new viewer who just moved to the area or the kid getting old enough to tune in on Saturday mornings that he was the big deal. Reigns' title reign has actually been impressive just because it is something no fed has done since the mid-90s, a multi-year title reign. The Attitude Era really obliterated a lot of wrestling norms. The issue with Reigns' title reign isn't the title losing meaning, though having a 2nd world title due to the brand split didn't help that, is that he wrestles one match with every PLE match being the same one just with a different face losing. Flair suffered from that in the 90s, but he was freaking Ric Flair and could talk you into the building. Reigns needs Paul "Everyone stop bringing up Lawler beating the hell out of me for real in Memphis" Heyman to do it.
  12. As Strike Force's biggest fan back in the 1980s, I nominate Rick Martel to team with Tito, win the tag titles, and never lose a tag match ever again.
  13. Interesting that you're not booking the famous "Japanese star wins the title, battles stars for a week or three, then loses title back to foreign star, and said title changes are never referenced again unless Ric Flair needs some extra title reigns." system.
  14. TEW has always run on the Monday-Sunday calendar, not Sunday-Saturday. That's why recovery in-game goes back to the previous Sunday, and when you start a new game, it starts on Monday Wk1 of whatever Month and Year the mod is based in.
  15. He had a bout with COVID so whether he got any vaccination is irrelevant unless someone is a raving anti-vax loon like RFK Jr or most of the Republican Party. COVID caused some people to have myocarditis aka enlarged heart. That kept a Minn. Vikings LB out for at least a season and other players in other sports. The virus messes with your blood which is why you end up with clots and a lot of the lung damage is from that too and they're thinking that is what is contributing to brain fog as it's choking some of the oxygen to the brain. But there is a ton of stuff unknown about long-COVID which is clearly what Windham had as it had been causing him problems for at least a year which is why he'd barely wrestled after his re-signing. The vaccines are safe and the side effects are the same infinitesimally small percentage of people every other vaccine has now. At the beginning? There were some weird issues for certain specific age groups and gender. For nearly everyone, they don't enlarge your heart, cause blood clots, or cause heart attacks. And the word you're looking for is Slander, not libel. Libel has to be in print in a publication by a journalist or someone purporting to be a journalist. If anyone wants to be an anti-vax loon, go right ahead. I've given up fighting for you to remain alive from a preventable thing. Over 1 million dead, with most of them being anti-vax loons and still want to argue? You do you. Just don't do a fundraiser for your massive hospital bills when you end up there.
  16. According to Sean Ross Sapp, one of the biggest wrestling reporters, it was a heart attack due to the damage COVID did to his heart which is why he'd been away for so long. I'm betting we're going to get a lot of those around the world in the next few years since we still haven't figured out how to treat long-COVID yet.
  17. That was an amazing title belt. Simple but it popped on camera and in photos like that one. And yeah, Eric came up with the NWO, though Hogan was basically a forced issue because it only took a year for him to completely burn out the crowd with his standard WWF-style feuds. He was getting a lot of boos by spring 95. His complete inability to end that one good idea is what ended WCW. Most of the rest of anything else he came up with are base-level ideas anyone with any sense in a competitive business would do. They had pretty much zero risk, especially since he had a blank check from Ted thanks mainly to Herd and the sequence of terrible people he hired to run WCW since buying it. And RIP Terry Funk. His empty arena brawl with Lawler was one of the first feuds I remember from watching Memphis wrestling as a little kid. He reinvented himself so many times that pop stars could only wish they'd get that many reinventions.
  18. "Is Herd a good boss?" "Bill, I just got the walls repainted in my office, and I don't want to peel the paint off answering that question truthfully." As much as I despise Bischoff, Herd is the only one I rank worse because at least Sleazy E came up with 1 good idea in his life. And come on, Vince is just pitching that god-awful irl Iraqi sympathizer gimmick so Bob will stay put. I think. It did main event Mania though.
  19. Hey, that's a great song! Stupid Crockett. Debbie ought to be able to bring in some kind of hot act.
  20. Everyone has their own style of writing, but I for one would be happy with fully-written behind-the-curtain stuff and just post a very barebones show write-up. It's going to take a while for sure. I mean they could throw some money at a few guys that would jump at the chance to get good paydays while being probably 2 slots above their card pushes in the WWF or WCW/NWA. Mainly just hoovering up the people who left both places irl or would leave if they got a good offer is all I'd want or expect. But with Larry leaving that top of the card is really bare so fixing that is going to be the focus. And the wretched production values. They were terrible even for ESPN standards back then.
  21. Pulls out voodoo doll. "Please make Bischoff say something horrible on camera so he gets fired before he ruins the AWA." And before anyone says "They're taped in advance." Yeah, so were the NWA shows, and that didn't stop Cornette's racist joke from getting left in there so he'd get fired.
  22. Wait, I'm only right on one of those? Boooooooooo! I wanted several of those to happen. Come on and sign The Midnight Express and push Tully to the moon.
  23. HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!! Verne did the right thing finally! Time to have the AWA maneuver its way to become the #1 promotion in the US by 1993 or 1995. Will Ron Simmons become AWA World Champ? Will Flair join Crockett again instead of wasting 2 years in the WWF? Will Tully get the single push he always should have gotten but never did without his dad owning the company? How fast will Vince bury Larry? Just how will Bischoff screw this company up like he did WCW? And how long will it be before the AWA buys out/merges with the USWA? Please tell me that one of the best tag teams in pro wrestling history will come to the AWA instead of ending up in Smokey Mountain since their deal should be close to up by now in 1990 (or is it 1991). So many more questions to be answered. Such an interesting time in pro wrestling too.
  24. Sorry Verne, both Waters and Harry residing in the Eastern Time Zone means that the midnight provision meant Eastern Time so you're too late. Now I'm going to go kiss Morticia after speaking some love language to her, and if you call again Verne, I'll send IT after you.
  25. 2 really good songs for entrances. Interesting that we now know where Vinny Mac got the idea for Money in the Bank from (or actually Jericho as he claims it was his idea).😆 That should give the promotion several good feuds to run with for a few months though to keep making bank and ticking off Moolah all the while. Sort of surprised she didn't have a goon planted there to whack Renee in advance and then use that chaotic ref bump and brawl to get away with it easily.
