WSOF 3 - Fitch vs. Burkman II announced

http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/JonFitch.gifvs.http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/JoshBurkman.gif

WSOF President, Ray Sefo, announced today that WSOF 3 will take place on June 14th and will be headlined by the rematch of Jon Fitch vs. Josh Burkman. Jon Fitch is fresh off his controversial release from the UFC after a defeat at the hands of Demian Maia. Fitch went an impressive 14-3-1 in his time with the UFC; which included a 2006 victory over Burkman. Burkman has gone 7-1 since his release from the UFC back in 2008 and has rattled off 4 straight victories. He is 2-0 in the WSOF so far, defeating Gerald Harris and Aaron Simpson. Sefo has stated that the winner of this fight will get a place in the inaugural Welterweight Championship fight.

Also announced is a Lightweight matchup pitting Dan Lauzon against John Gunderson. Lauzon has gone 4-0 since being released from the UFC after an 0-2 run. He is looking to make a splash in his WSOF debut. Gunderson is a seasoned veteran and is looking to spoil the much younger Lauzon's debut and springboard up the WSOF Lightweight rankings.

Also rumored for WSOF 3 is the debut of Jacob Volkmann and the return of Tyrone Spong. Additional matches will be announced shortly.

WSOF 3:

Main Event, Welterweight, Jon Fitch (24-5-1, 1 NC) vs. Josh Burkman (25-9)

Co-Main Event, TBD

Lightweight, Dan Lauzon (16-4) vs. John Gunderson (34-14-2)

WSOF 3 in the books - Fitch punches ticket to title shot, Rampage and Volkmann successful in debuts

http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/bth_JonFitch.gifhttp://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/bth_QuintonJackson.gifhttp://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/bth_JacobVolkmann.gif

WSOF 3 - Fitch vs. Burkman II results:

Jon Fitch once again proved to be too much for Josh Burkman as he submitted him via rear naked choke in the 2nd round. Burkman came out strong in the 1st and controlled the round on the feet, but once Fitch took it to the ground in the 2nd, it was all downhill from there. Fitch will now get the first crack at the Welterweight Championship.

"Rampage" showed flashes of his old self in his matchup with Gilbert Yvel. He busted out some slams and nice ground and pound, but he was unable to finish Yvel. Afterwards, "Rampage" grabbed the mic and stared down Anthony Johnson in the crowd and called him out. He demanded WSOF make the match, and make it for the belt.

On the undercard, Jacob Volkmann made a successful debut against Marcus Hicks with a dominant 2nd round TKO. Volkmann was in control the entire fight and looked to be in the best shape of his career. John Gunderson pulled off a late 1st round submission againt Dan Lauzon. After being controlled for much of the fight, Gunderson took advantage of a Lauzon slip and slapped on the guillotine for the victory. Tyrone Spong was upset by the crafty Francisco France. Spong found himself fighting off submission after submission the entire fight, until he was finally submitted by a 2nd round kimura.

Full Results:

Jon Fitch (25-5-1, 1 NC) beat Josh Burkman (25-10) by 2nd round Submission (Rear Naked Choke)

Quinton Jackson (33-11) beat Gilbert Yvel (38-17-1, 1 NC) by Unanimous Decision

Jacob Volkmann (16-4) beat Marcus Hicks (10-4, 1 NC) by 2nd round TKO

John Gunderson (35-14-2) beat Dan Lauzon (16-5) by 1st round Submission (Guillotine)

Francisco France (8-3) beat Tyrone Spong (1-1) by 2nd round Submission (Kimura)

Prelims:

WSOF 4 - Barnett vs. Grabowski full card announced

http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/JoshBarnett.gifvs.http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/DamianGrabowski.gif

Josh Barnett chose to bypass an offer from the UFC after Strikeforce folded and signed on with WSOF. He will no doubt be looking to rise to the top of the WSOF Heavyweight division. He will need to go through Damian Grabowski though, who brings a very impressive record to the table. His lone defeat came at the hands of former Bellator champion, Cole Konrad. It is rumored that the winner of this matchup will be an immediate title challenger.

http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/bth_SergeiKharitonov.jpgvs.http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/bth_MichaelRussow.gif

Sergei Kharitonov is another former Strikeforce fighter who brings an impressive resumé to the table with notable wins over Fabricio Werdum, Alistair Overeem, and a 2007 PRIDE victory over his opponent, Mike Russow. Russow will no doubt be looking to avenge that loss here. He is definitely a different fighter than the last time he faced Kharitonov, as he rattled off 11 straight victories after that loss, before dropping 2 straight and getting released from the UFC.

http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/bth_SatoshiIshii.jpgvs.http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/bth_KirillSidelnikov.gif

Satoshi Ishii is a solid prospect with a strong background in judo. In his last 9 fights, his only defeat came at the hands of the legend, Fedor Emelianenko. He's currently riding a 3 fight winning streak over Tim Sylvia, Sean McCorkle, and Kerry Schall (whose bicep will never be the same). Kirill Sidelnikov is another young prospect and just so happens to be nicknamed "Baby Fedor." He has yet to really string something together in his young career and hasn't lived up to the hype just yet. The winner here could be the future of the WSOF Heavyweight division.

http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/bth_CharlieBrenneman.gifvs.http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/bth_PatAudinwood.gif

This matchup between Charlie Brenneman and Pat Audinwood is one of two fighters trying to prove the UFC was wrong in releasing them. Brenneman has dropped down to Lightweight since his release and won his first fight on the regional circuit. Audinwood is 2-0 since his release and picked up the ROC Lightweight Title along the way.

http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/bth_MiguelTorres.gifvs.http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/bth_WalelWatson.jpg

Miguel Torres has had a huge fall from grace since his days as the WEC Bantamweight Champion. He was primed for a comeback with WSOF, but that was haulted in his debut by up-and-comer Marlon Moraes. Walel Watson did not live up to the hype in this time with the UFC as he went 1-3. He is on a two fight winning streak though, and will be looking to take out the wily veteran, Torres.

Heavyweights Barnett, Kharitonov, and Sidelnikov victorious at WSOF 4

July 13, 2013

http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/bth_JoshBarnett.gifhttp://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/bth_SergeiKharitonov.jpghttp://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/bth_KirillSidelnikov.gif

Josh Barnett looked fantastic once again as he coasted to a dominant 1st round submission victory over Damian Grabowski. Barnett locked in the tight guillotine and Grabowski had no choice but to tap out. When asked in the post fight interview about a potential title matchup against co-main event winner Sergei Kharitonov, Barnett seemed uninterested and said he'd "gladly beat him again if that's what the WSOF brass wants."

Kharitonov once again defeated Mike Russow in the co-main event as he rocked him late in the 2nd round and then followed him to the ground and eventually armbarred his way to a victory. Kharitonov seemed extremely interested in a potential rematch with Barnett as the 2011 defeat is still fresh in his memory.

In a somewhat slow and methodical matchup, Kirill Sidelnikov was able to grind out the decision victory over Satoshi Ishii. Ishii was unable to get Sidelnikov to the mat and Sidelnikov did a good job of moving in and out of range and picking his punches perfectly.

In the other two main card matchups, Charlie Brenneman and Miguel Torres both scored decision victories over Pat Audinwood and Walel Watson respectively. Brenneman bloodied up Audinwood and controlled the fight everywhere it went. Torres looked to be back in his old form and dominated from start to finish, but could not put Watson away.

Full Results:

Josh Barnett (33-6) beat Damian Grabowski (16-2) by 1st round Submission (Guillotine)

Sergei Kharitonov (20-5) beat Mike Russow (15-4, 1 NC) by 2nd round Submission (Armbar)

WSOF 5 - Rumble vs. Rampage announced

http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/AnthonyJohnson.gifvs.http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/QuintonJackson.gif

Well it looks like "Rampage" got his wish, as earlier today, WSOF officals announced the main event for WSOF 5 as Anthony "Rumble" Johnson against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson for the WSOF Light Heavyweight Championship. "Rampage" called out Johnson back in June after his debut victory over Gilbert Yvel.

WSOF 5 is scheduled to take place on August 24th in Vegas, and is also rumored to include a matchup between welterweights Jorge Santiago and Jay Hieron. The winner quite possibly could challenge Jon Fitch to crown the first ever WSOF Welterweight Champion.

More details will be announced as they become available.

WSOF 5:

Main Event, Light Heavyweight Championship, Anthony Johnson (15-4) vs. Quinton Jackson (33-11)

Co-Main Event, Welterweight, Jorge Santiago (25-11) vs. Jay Hieron (23-7)(rumored)

Cobb/Beerbohm, Abdurahimov/Buentello added to WSOF 5 - Rumble vs. Rampage, full card official

Brian Cobb made a successful WSOF debut at WSOF 1 with a victory over Ronys Torres. He was unable to finish Torres though, and will no doubt be looking to get his submission game working in this one. Lyle Beerbohm has done nothing but win since dropping two in a row to Pat Healy and Shinya Aoki in Strikeforce. He is riding high on a 6 fight win streak and will look to make an impact in his WSOF debut. The winner of this one will be in the title mix along with Jacob Volkmann and Charlie Brenneman at 155.

Shamil Abdurahimov will be looking to make a splash in his WSOF and U.S. debut in the absolutely stacked WSOF Heavyweight Division. He will square off with the 39 year old veteran of 46 fights in Paul Buentello. "The Headhunter" is likely looking at his last run, so this is do or die for him.

WSOF 6 set for September, includes two Middleweight top contender matchups

http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/bth_ThalesLeites.gifvs.http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/bth_DavidLoiseau.gif

Thales Leites will square off against David Loiseau and Danillo Villefort will meet David Branch. The winners will then fight at a later date to determine the first ever WSOF Middleweight Champion.

Leites has won 6 of his last 7 and recently picked up the Superior Challenge Middleweight Title in a victory over Jeremy Horn. He is a crafty UFC veteran who once went 5 rounds with the champ, Anderson Silva. Loiseau also recently sported some gold as the Tachi Palace Fights Middleweight Champion, but the status of that belt is currently unknown with the company in limbo. This matchup could easily be for the belt and the winner of this one will likely be favored to be the first champion.

Villefort enjoyed a successful WSOF debut with a victory over Kris McCray. He has won 10 of his last 12 and has fought virtually everywhere, including the UFC, WEC, Strikeforce, IFL, and Shark Fights. His opponent, Branch, feels he has already earned a title shot with victories at both WSOF 1 and 2 over Dustin Jacoby and Paulo Filho. He will go for three in a row to get the title shot.

Also announced for the preliminary card are a trio of matchups including Gracies (Rolles, Igor, & Gregor).

More details to be announced as they become available.

WSOF 5 report - Rumble strikes gold, Hieron and Cobb become #1 contenders

August 24, 2013

http://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/AnthonyJohnson.gifhttp://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/JayHieron.jpghttp://i1187.photobucket.com/albums/z391/JayT23/BrianCobb.gif

Anthony Johnson became the first ever WSOF Champion Saturday night as he steamrolled Quinton Jackson on his way to being crowned the WSOF Light Heavyweight Champion. Johnson used the takedown over and over in the fight and Jackson could not find a way to stop it. Johnson finally mounted "Rampage" in the 3rd round and pounded on him until the ref jumped in for the save.

Jay Hieron flashed some nice standup in his fight against Jorge Santiago as he scored the KO in the 2nd round. It was previously announced the winner of this fight would face Jon Fitch to crown the first ever Welterweight Champion. In other action, Brian Cobb was so dominant in his unanimous decision victory over Lyle Beerbohm, that WSOF President, Ray Sefo, announced afterwards that Cobb was guaranteed a spot in the first ever Lightweight Title fight. Rumors are that his opponent will be either Charlie Brenneman or Jacob Volkmann.

I hope to get this game soon and use a real world mod to start a game myself. WSOF is probably who I would pick as UFC would be too easy. Can't wait to get it, but in the meantime I'm enjoying reading your dynasty!

Thanks! I know it's slowed down a bit, but I'm in the process of moving and I coach high school baseball, so between packing and coaching, I've had very little free time. Not to mention I still have a regular job eating up my day!
