Intense Fighting Championship: The Challenge

Recommended Posts

Well, I decided to start a little side project after finally seeing the WMMA: The Challenge thread! I will be using Afroduck's Default Redone: Evolution mod! For those unfamiliar with the mod, it's a modified version of Afroduck's Default Redone mod, with fighters from the lower mens weight classes (Feather, Bantam, and Flyweight) set to debut between 2001-2016. And promotions that are dedicated to these weight classes set to debut starting in 2004 with KDM FC!

The mod can be found here: http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=524729

I will also be following the rules and restrictions put in place by Jingo with input from others in the community in the WMMA: The Challenge thread!

The Thread can be found here: http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=516775

I have modified the database in a couple small ways, I have activated the Intense Fighting Championship promotion, and modified them to 5% Regional Popularity, and moved them from BC to Ontario, this will be the promotion I will control! I have added the Classic Cage Combat promotion (from the Default data) to the Redone Evolution mod, so that the same number of rival promotions will eventually debut in Canada, I moved CCC from Ontario to BC, CCC are set to debut randomly!

I have never played with either this mod, or this set of restrictions before, and thought it would be fun!

My Match Maker's lucky dip was actually pretty decent:

Negotiating 7

Eye For Talent 4

Match Making 4

Promotion 10

The following are the three weight classes I have chosen, along with my intial roster in the order of their initial ranking in the promotion:

1. Steph Smith

2. Gianna Russo

IFC 1: Sutton vs. D'Abruzzo

Saturday, Week 4, January 1998 in Ontario, Canada

MAIN EVENT

Middleweight Championship Semi-Final: Ethan Sutton (4-0) vs. Todd D'Abruzzo (5-1)

Ethan Sutton is a wrestler, with excellent takedowns, he also has some decent boxing skills at his disposal, but his lack of power means he probably won't get too many knockouts! Todd D'Abruzzo is a power puncher, his stand-up is fairly good, and he has the power to do serious damage, but he is let down by his lack of wrestling, or ground game!

CO-MAIN EVENT

Womens Bantamweight Championship Semi-Final: Steph Smith (1-0) vs. Debra Everett (1-0)

A jiu jitsu fighter from Ontario, Steph Smith has the ground game to give most of her opponents fits, but often abandons any sort of attempt at a game plan, and foolishly stands and bangs! A born fighter, Debra Everett is a tough opponent to have to face, a good striker, she always comes ready to compete and is hard to stop!

UNDERCARD

Welterweight Championship Semi-Final: Cory Brewer (7-2) vs. Samuel Russo (16-11)

Cory Brewer is a kickboxer from Canada. A decidedly mediocre competitor, big question marks have been raised about his conditioning in the past! A veteran of the Canadian MMA scene despite his young age, Samuel Russo is not a pretty fighter, in any sense, but has found some success due to his powerful fists!

Middleweight Championship Semi-Final: Bradley Dixon (17-9) vs. Owen Hyde (2-0)

A solid professional, Bradley Dixon uses his wrestling skills as his main weapon. He offers little threat via his strikes or ground game, and as such finds it hard to stop opponents! "Young Gun" Owen Hyde is a former kickboxer, and is trying to replicate the success he had in that sport as a teenager in Mixed Martial Arts!

Welterweight Championship Semi-Final: Zachary Gilbert (11-6) vs. Brad Wyman (3-0)

Zachary Gilbert is a former amateur wrestler who made his MMA debut in 1992. He has yet to show anything that would suggest he will be anything more than a journeyman! A young Muay Thai specialist, Brad Wyman has some decent strikes, and can certainly do some damage, but needs to improve the rest of his MMA game before he can become a serious threat. Wyman is unique amongst fighters in that he is blind in one eye!

Womens Bantamweight Championship Semi-Final: Gianna Russo (1-0) vs. Leslie Myers (1-0)

Gianna Russo is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu student from Canada, who is looking to make a named for herself in Mixed Martial Arts! One of the least likely looking mixed martial artists in the world, Leslie Myers belies her innocent look by being in possession of a fairly high level Jiu Jitsu game that can tie opponents in knots. She isn't very good at stand up though, and that's her biggest weakness!

Weigh-In Results

Ethan Sutton (185) vs. Todd D'Abruzzo (185)

Steph Smith (135) vs. Debra Everett (135)

Cory Brewer (170) vs. Samuel Russo (170)

Bradley Dixon (185) vs. Owen Hyde (185)

Zachary Gilbert (170) vs. Brad Wyman (170)

Gianna Russo (135) vs. Leslie Myers (135)

IFC 2: Myers vs. Smith

Saturday, Week 4, March 1998 in Ontario, Canada

MAIN EVENT

IFC Womens Bantamweight Title: Leslie Myers (2-0) vs. Steph Smith (2-0)

Leslie Myers was impressive in a Fight and Submission of the Night performance at IFC 1, as she slapped a guillotine on fellow jiu jitsu player Gianna Russo midway through the second round to earn a spot in this first ever IFC Womens Bantamweight title fight! Steph Smith had little trouble with Debra Everett in her qualifying fight, submitting her with a rear naked choke in the first round!

CO-MAIN EVENT

Middleweight: Tuck Durdell (1-0) vs. Deacon Stawford (5-4)

The young Canadian ground and pound specialist Tuck Durdell is considered a good prospect for the future based on his athletic abilities and drive! Deacon Stawford is a pretty limited wrestler. He is particularly noted for his lack of cardio, and has been known to gas just jogging to the cage!

UNDERCARD

Welterweight: Jake Walken (4-0) vs. French Dancer (4-2)

A Canadian Taekwondo fighter, Jake Walken is a true showman within the confines of the cage, delighting in bringing the crowd to their feet with his array of flashy strikes! French Dancer is a Canadian fighter who had a decent, if unspectacular, record as an amateur wrestler. Other than his grappling skills, Dancer hasn't really shown a whole lot else!

Middleweight: Reed Howlett (1-0) vs. Rich Robinson (2-0)

Coming from a boxing background, the Canadian striker Reed Howlett is known for his elusiveness, his quick feet and excellent head movement making him a very tough target to hit. He is a quality counter-puncher, making use of his fast hands, but lacks the power to threaten opponents with one-shot finishes! Rich Robinson got the nickname "Hard Rain" because of his brutal ground and pound due the way he rains down bombs from above. Although he is dangerous when on top, he is far from a one-dimensional fighter, he strikes with venom, and has an extensive wrestling background to fall back on!

Womens Bantamweight: Beckie Dexter (1-0) vs. Kirsten Page (1-0)

Beckie Dexter is a limited fighter from Canada, a striker who can use both her fists and feet. She lacks the power or versatility to really threaten though! Kirsten Page is a Canadian kickboxer who got the nickname "Thunder Foot" because of her love for using a big head kick to try and finish fights!
