Comments on Previous Show: A good buildup show for the PPV. The Bash isn't treated as high quality by the WWE as it was in the NWA or WCW, and it feels that way; but that's just realism.

 

Yeah, it's kind of tough for me to put a relatively weak Bash main event with Eddie/Big Show, but the fact is that WWE really did just use it as a stepping stone for SummerSlam. Not to say that Big Show won't win or even that there will be a rematch at SummerSlam, but it's all going to compound for the second biggest PPV of the year. Hopefully it's at least intriguing and a good read once I get there. I finished booking it, so we'll see how it comes out in writing.

 

Also, sorry for what I'm doing to RVD I swear that drug test had a lot to do with it. He's certainly not done though, he will definitely be a main event player again at some point.

The commentators mentioned the confrontation between Holly and Jindrak last week, and that they both have something to prove to one another. Holly slapped Jindrak to open the match, just like last week, and it led to a couple of minutes of a scrum, leading to both men ending up outside the ring. Both men frustrated the other with moves in a pretty decent brawl. Jindrak brings in a chair out of frustration, but Holly ducks it and kicks him in the stomach. He goes for the Alabama Slam, but Jindrak rolls out the back. Holly, increasingly frustrated, picked up the chair and blasted Jindrak in the head with it! This brawl ended with an inconclusive finish, Holly having been disqualified.

They are Londrick, a combined entity with the power of the most powerful wizards and sorcerers in the world. And Lords of the Ring? They're just regular people. They're nothing special. The tag team experience of Kidman and Mysterio in WCW was mentioned in this one, and despite not going under the Filthy Animals name, they showed their experience. Midway through the match, the inexplicable scenes that have been occurring on Velocity manifested on SmackDown. Akio was chased out of the ring by a parade of crazed Japanese fans! The fans jumped over the barricade and chased him to the back, leaving most in the audience confused. Sakoda was left out to dry, getting smacked with a 6-1-9 and a Shooting Star Press for a bizarre Kidman and Mysterio victory.

In the second and final semifinal matchup in the TV Title Tournament, Dawn Marie led her client Stevie Richards to the ring, looking to lead him closer to gold against "The French Phenom" Rene Dupree. The two fought in a back-and-forth match, with Dupree overpowering the smaller Richards. He looked for the French Tickler, but was kicked in the head by Richards for his efforts! Richards' scrappiness was able to reveal itself, allowing Stevie to dig deep and eventually pick up a win with a surprise victory roll! Richards is going to the finals to take on Chavo Guerrero!

This non-title WrestleMania rematch took place on SmackDown, with Cena's eye nearly swollen shut at the start. Like a hunter stalking his prey, Big Show saw the injury as a target and worked on it the whole match. Every rally that Cena tried to muster fell up short because of his handicap and Big Show's overwhelming strength and size. This one ended as Cena uncharacteristically tried to his a cross body from the top rope. Luther Reigns got up and distracted him for just a second, and the Big Show planted him with a Powerslam and Chokeslam for a convincing victory over the sight-afflicted United States Champion.

Edge and The Undertaker

Brock Lesnar and Mark Henry w/Theodore Long

 

This oddball matchup featured two current rivalries coming to clash all together in one ring. These two teams shared no love lost for anyone else involved in the matchup, and showed it. It was evenly matched until Theodore Long got involved against Edge, distracting him and allowing Mark Henry to take control. As Edge was overpowered by the two bigger, stronger men, The Undertaker reached out for a tag. When he was tagged in, he came in like a house of fire, knocking Brock off the apron and clotheslining Henry over the ropes.

 

With Henry, Long, and Lesnar regrouping, The Undertaker took flight over the top rope, taking the two superstars out as Long narrowly dodged! A brawl broke out on the outside, with Edge getting involved as well, taking it to Brock Lesnar over the barricade. The Undertaker and Mark Henry fought up the ramp -- and both teams were counted out!

The opening match of the King of the Ring tournament saw "Captain Charisma" take on Jeff Hardy. The announcers hyped their rivalries from years past with E&C and the Hardy Boyz, and despite the fact that time has passed since those great matches, Christian and Hardy still knew how to go in the ring. This was a great match that saw Rude and Trish ejected from ringside by the referee! In an exciting opening match, Jeff Hardy moved on in the tournament following a Twist of Fate and a Swanton Bomb!

Lawler says that his win over HHH was a fluke, but Ross says we'll find out about that at the King of the Ring special on NBC in three weeks!

 

Next, we go backstage where

Johnny Nitro and Melina

are standing with Todd Grisham. They hype Beat the Clock, and Nitro talks about how he is more than ready to add a bit more gold to his arsenal. Nitro trashes Jericho, saying that maybe once he's gonna have some time to kill before his World Title match at SummerSlam, so maybe he'll take the Intercontinental Title from him in the meantime! Expect a quick 1, 2, 3 tonight from Johnny Nitro.

In the first Beat the Clock matchup of the night, we saw a big of a springboard-fest. Both men had the ability to fly around the ring a little bit, but Jericho eventually slowed it down with some submission holds. After a very, very good matchup which saw both men on the brink of victory, Chris Jericho finally locked in the Walls of Jericho and forced Nitro to tap out in 13:15.

appear onscreen, and the cheers turn to hateful boos. Triple H refutes Benjamin's claim on the grounds that he hasn't paid his dues. And yes, Triple H was caught off guard, but don't bet on it happening again. He sees and knows everything that Benjamin's got, to which Shelton replies with "How about this?" and slaps the World Heavyweight Champion across the face! Shelton smirks as Triple H wants to get at him, but Flair holds him back and tells the champ to save it for another day.

Christian's "Problem Solver" looked very good in this matchup, dominating Spike Dudley. He and Trish seemed to be in a foul mood after being ejected from Captain Charisma's King of the Ring loss, and the powerful Rude took this frustration out on Spike Dudley. The poor smaller Dudley was blasted with the Northern Lariat as Rude ended his misery.

"The Rabid Wolverine" and "The Big Red Machine" went at it furiously for the entirety of this matchup, and neither man was willing to back down. Benoit went at the larger man with countless hard chops to the chest, and Kane fired back by tossing the smaller Benoit around the ring. As the time limit came ever closer, the two men kicked it into overdrive. Kane hit a top rope clothesline and followed that up by looking for a Chokeslam, but Benoit slipped out of it and was able to lock Kane in the Crippler Crossface! With precious time ticking away, Benoit wrenched back on the hold. The 13-minute mark passed, and Benoit started to scream and wrench back, but could not force Kane to tap out in the next fifteen seconds!

 

Lillian Garcia announced that as the match went longer than 13 minutes and 15 seconds, it is officially ruled a draw! Benoit gruffly gets off of Kane and walked to the back, dejected.

are in the ring with a microphone. They begin to degrade the crowd, citing their superior class and intellect. Warlock says that yes, he understands that people in the present time are indulgent, ignorant, and unintelligent, but that is why he is here. Damien Warlock and William Regal are here to help these unenlightened masses by becoming role models for their miscreant children. Regal says that he introduced the world to his friend Damien Warlock because the people need to be taught a lesson. The WWE should be embarrassed to call these people their fans because they are not respectable and they lack the proper class to have a great company like the WWE be proud of them. Damien and William are here to lead these people on the path to purity and aristocratic style.

 

All of a sudden, interrupting the duo is the music of

Goldust

! He and his partner

Val Venis

get in the ring and tell The Aristocracy that their viewpoints are out of touch, and that these people don't have to comply with what they think. They make fun of the large blue robe that Warlock is wearing, as well as William Regal's uptight personality. Regal lands a cheap shot to Goldust, and the two teams brawl! Venis and Goldust clear the ring quickly, however, and send The Aristocracy packing up the ramp! The crowd cheers them on as we head to another commercial.

The two argue over whether or not Orton would actually fight if Triple H were still the champion. Meanwhile, the two performers went back and forth, in an extremely open match. Ric Flair predictably got involved frequently, and the referee repeatedly warned "The Nature Boy" to stay away. He would choke Michaels with his suit jacket while Orton distracted the referee and hit some elbows on the apron, among other things.

 

As the match went on, Kane got involved as well! He did not want Shawn to be able to fight for the World Title, and thus got up on the apron, but was Superkicked by Michaels! He turned around into an RKO attempt, but he pushed Orton off into the ropes. Orton turned around -- into Sweet Chin Music! Michaels quickly made the cover and the referee made a 1, 2, 3 count at the 12:40 mark! Shawn Michaels is going to SummerSlam to take on the World Champion!

comes to his senses, dragging himself up by the ropes, to join in on the assault. The official #1 contender finds himself down on the ground, but a cavalry runs down the ramp in the form of

Rob Van Dam

! An extended brawl breaks out, with Michaels eventually getting back to his feet to join in. On the outside, Kane tosses Benoit into the ring post and then into the steel steps, knocking him down for a minute or so. Michaels hits a plancha over the ropes to Orton, and Flair is hit with a side kick to the head by Van Dam! Benoit fights back and the other two help him fend off Kane, with Benoit, RVD, and Michaels standing tall in the ring to end the show!

No one picked Michaels! I purposely put the main event like this because I figured people would suspect the potential awkward Orton/HHH matchup at the event Orton won his real World Title IRL. Also, I realized after I booked the show that logically, Benoit/Kane shouldn't have been a draw as they still could have gotten second. But whatever

 

Also, Chris Benoit tested positive for steroids again after this show...he's been suspended for a month and thus the final segment on this show will lead nowhere with him. However, on the bright side, his suspension prompted him to ensure me that he would never do it again, and he is officially a reformed steroid user!

At the start of July, he's improved from a 31-33 (E+) across America to a 51-53 (D+), which has been a nice increase considering he hasn't really won all that much, and only beat Billy Gunn on pay-per-view. He's done pretty well for himself, and honestly, people don't mind losing to him for some reason.
