DJ you are absolutely right. Personally I don't think the method the schools use is bad per se. However, given the context of your area (no internet), it seems far from the optimal thing to do (on the contrary...). It denies them even the chance to learn.

Self-discipline can't be self-thought, because that would presuppose... well, self-discipline. Takes one to know one. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> If the parents don't do that, schools must take on that (nowadays often monumental) task. And that doesn't happen, it just doesn't happen and needless to say it will create lots of problems in their future.

Like I said, I don't like to go against nature. It won't make me a great educator as they are required to 'correct' students more often than not, but at least I can claim to somewhat understand their mindset and their situation. If they want to run up stairs like a madman, sure. But they need to understand that it will cause them problems later on. Experience is often the greatest teacher. Let them experience the discomfort of others or the dangers of stairs. There's always the 'hope' that they'll "turn out well in the end", but can you justify that method by a 'possible' outcome. Than again, there's always the chance of their Nothing is ever sure in this business. It's often the 5% that are not affected by the standardized methods (because of the sheer fact that they are standardized) that will be seen as problematic children. Kinda sucks for those kids, they've always been put at a disadvantage. If the methods used to not evolve with time and context, that number will increase. If it's above 15% it will cause problems for everyone.

Most schools suck for anyone who has any sort of disability or mental disorder.

I know teachers are well underpaid, but over half of those teachers don't care about the students, and the ones that do have so many to handle they have a hard time keeping up with the ones that need special assistance.

Schools need to really instead of getting new computers or larger tvs like you guys seem to think...should put more money into getting teachers and training them to deal with kids who have special needs.

You can't send a child to a public school who has any sort of problem that holds them back because they fall through the crack. I see so many people talk about fixing up schools in poor neighborhoods and while I'm all for that...they need to look into EVERY school and get people who can help students.

Big fancy screens and computers don't help...they just make things easier for some kids...yet you are leaving a percentage of students behind...that goes up each year.
