CGC Canadian Golden Combat (fictional wrestling)

Recommended Posts

Gonna run a fictional wrestling federation that comes in the game called Canadian Golden Combat and see what I can do. Really like this game but am still very, very raw in it so if anyone has ideas, suggestions, help or really, anything that you can give and breakdown my shows, feuds and whatever, please do!

To start off with, here I am...

Don't know if you have seen the CGC thread, but here is a link to it. Might give you some tips or ideas on the promotion as a whole. Not a must read, but it couldn't hurt.

First TV Show

Ok, I honestly thought I had a clue what I was doing but I was very very wrong. This show was a bomb for sure. Have to admit, I thought I should have had lots of in ring stuff but I got in trouble for it and need more interviews and angles. That will be a base for the next show.

I signed Canadian Crusher to a written contract and tried to push him a bit vs another opener in Skip Beau but he was not happy at all with the way things went.

Ok, some advice if you want to improve your ratings. If you want to go with certain stories and do the game your way, obviously thats fine, but for ratings sake, heres some advice......:

-Balance user talents

-Don't bother much with Overness related angles until you have a roster thats over. I know this seems obvious, but I did a lot of the same mistakes when I first played EWR and TEW 2010, booking guys on what I thought made sense rather than what the game and general populace thought made sense. Jack Avatar as commissioner, for example, would be the IRL equivalent of a Chikara midcarder suddenly getting Trips' on-screen COO post with no explanation. I mean, it might be an unintentionally hilarious angle to the people who watch Botchamania, but it would be a sit on hands angle for the kids wearing Cena/Bryan/Punk merch and the adults with the kids wearing Cena/Bryan/Punk merch that comprise the core fanbase.

-Emphasize strengths, deemphasize weaknesses. Have guys that are very capable promo cutters cut promos every show, have menacing workers destroy the most over guy you don't care about or be in a promo alongside your best talkers.

-Start your show with a hot angle.

-The show grade is weighted towards the main event and best angle on the show. The co-main is also responsible for a chunk of your grade. The two matches you suspect should get the highest ratings should get top billing. Sandwich an intentionally average angle in between to prevent crowd burnout.

-Open match road agent notes are your friend. If a match is over 16 minutes with good in-ring talent involved, slow build. If both workers have great Psych ratings(I'd suspect B as a benchmark for Cult), go with Call In Ring. If both workers have terrible psych, Script the match.

-Use everyone on the roster for each TV show. Book a pre-show battle royale involving 20-30 guys. It seems unrealistic, but you should really make sure your entire roster improves and it gives free pop to low-end guys who would struggle to get it otherwise (If they are in the best 4).

-There are two booking styles you can use. The first is a model along the line of old WWF Superstars tapings in the 80s. Pick a core group of at least four guys. Ideally, two will be good talkers and not be facing each other, and all involved will ideally have good matches and be over. Build the storylines through a largely verbal and physical build, but don't put the competitors in the ring against each other until your PPV.

Example: You have Alex DeColt and Dan DaLay. Alex is a great talker with solid enough psychology, selling and basics to get by. DaLay is over, has passable menace, and while he has workrate comparable to Brodus Clay, he can get by. So for the TV shows leading up to your big PPV, you have DeColt beat a heel you don't care about such as Ryan Powell, then he cuts a promo on DaLay, who is ideally "Not Rated" in the segment. This maintains the storyline heat.

DaLay, meanwhile, will take on a babyface you don't particularly care about, then he will destroy a high overness guy you don't care about. Lets say for example you put Phil Vibert on colour commentary, and have DaLay beat the crap out of him for saying bad things about him during a match.

Or better yet, create your own angle, where DaLay does some Ryback-esque stuff to some backstage staff members or locker room area, and is the only person involved in the angle, rated on menace only. Or do something like have Eddie Chandler or Adrian Garcia cut a promo on Alex DeColt, with Dan DaLay standing in the background, looking menacing.

Both will ideally go undefeated, and then for the first PPV match, one goes over, or you can do a Broadway/outside interference DQ finish(I don't think you get penalized TOO badly for Russo-ing your fanbase.) and you keep the feud going by having DaLay attack DeColt or DeColt attack DaLay post match. (Since both will be over due to your booking, you can safely do this angle without getting hammered.) Then you rebuild both guys momentum with more wins, until you have a second or even third decisive PPV match. The other feud could be something like Ricky DeColt vs Shooter Sean Deeley or Eddie Chandler.

Then there is the book the best matches possible for TV and best matches possible for PPV method, which is a risky bit of business because it means you reuse some matches and have some issues with certain people not getting enough momentum due to constant use on Open Match, which affects the ratings of the matches and promos in the long term. However, you can gain company pop faster by having better rated TV shows.

That will help out match grades as well. I switched mine to 6/9/14 for Television then 7/10/20 for the big shows.

Do I have to set that in game or just make them shorter in my own matches?

Thank you for the advice
